How the Utah Draw Works
Bonus points for limited entry, preference points for general deer
Utah covers general season deer, limited entry hunts, and once in a lifetime species in a single spring application, due in late April for the current cycle with results at the end of May. A points only period runs into late June for anyone who missed the main draw.
Utah runs two systems side by side. General season deer uses preference points, where the highest point holders draw first. Limited entry and once in a lifetime hunts use bonus points, where half the tags go to the top point holders and half are drawn at random, so each applicant has a chance to draw a limited entry hunt in any given year.
