is this is a year you don't want to hunt is it a year you don't have time you do have time got archery hunts you got muzzleloader hunts two to three four rifle hunts 60 percent of your shirts are sleeveless you know you you know you're not prepared enough anything to do with western big game welcome to the epic outdoors podcast powered by under armor hey everybody jason carter adam bronson chris at the keyboard coming at you from southern utah we're not quarantined yet our friends in idaho say they're quarantined i've got my six feet between you guys though well yeah well you do we are we're all good so the funny thing is bronson so so adam and i we we go out to eat it gets us out of the office okay we come in at three or four or five whatever it is case maybe six late day would be seven and we go you know we work and then it's nice to get out and like go see
the community support the community right get away from the phone look at the sun right make sure the see the sun and so with this crackdown and nobody can support our local restaurants like we like to do it's hard right so what so our options are take out at the curb okay so my wife's again right this is causing contention but then no not huge contention i get her point and but but at the same time it is nice to go out a little bit right so it's friday today's friday want to go out and see the world for a minute right but you're not supposed to she's being good kids are being good everybody's quarantining ornery right and dad goes out and decides to do curbside right but you could get the corona from like well there's dishes probably that styrofoam was made in china the all kinds of lids silverware you don't know who touched and where and and i grabbed silverware out of our thing here i
know and i ate with one that they gave us which was bad and then there's napkins and it can live for seven days on those and somebody probably squeezed on those and so now it's just like the amp pile i go out and i get the white shiz on my legs and i come back and poison the colony that's right that's what's going on you saw her look i i even teased her i walked in i says we're trailing the decon back to the nest right now the daddy rat went out got poisoned and is poisoned in the nest and we didn't even look at me like we didn't even leave the truck she's looking at me like you got a camper you got a box trailer for a side by side that might be your house 14 days and i'll see you that's right quarantine for 14 let's see if you have any symptoms so anyway that's doing our best like everybody else
to try to try to survive but try to not go crazy too so gonna go corona times are tough times yeah huh so covid 19 17 and 18 that's all bad for you yeah you get your parents moved down and then the first and then the first week that they live at your house they're quarantined you're quarantined with them it's not the easiest thing in the world and you got good parents love you mom and dad hey and your mom she's probably cooking and cleaning your bachelor pad has never been cleaner i've never ate better my house has never been cleaner whoa it is what it is yeah having said that is it worth it and you don't have to answer there always there are some struggles there's family struggles everywhere you're not the only one so anyway that's just the way it goes but you know what let's uh let's see what let's see if yy's working let's give him a ring should we give him a ring anybody think he'll
answer after last time i'll bet he thought it was probably an emergency last time i'll bet he's not biting this time i'll bet he answers i'm gonna say he does he can't resist he's quarantined he's quarantined right now so starting off bro oh yeah hello you screened in your calls or what i was just working on colorado here oh well we we snuck over and did a podcast but we didn't want you to think we weren't thinking about you over there how are you thanks for thinking of me you got six feet you got six feet everywhere around you right now all good yeah yeah i think we're all good oh good any no signs of the corona no no signs of the corona here at this office we're still going strong what about uh colorado's kind of on the forefront of everybody's mind right now let it you got any tips and tricks for trying to get into accounts and portals
and things like that why i mean what are you running into this is a just make sure you have the right email on file yeah you know they've got they're one of the states that went to this uh username which is their cid and a password and so if you don't have that and you're not getting in um you better have the right email on file when you hit that reset password or it's going to go into cyberspace part of that is some of these guys have a you know a service do their their apps for them and they throw their own you know email on there and so when you you know if you were to go do your own applications and you don't know what your password is then you've got you hit the reset and you and it you know you got to use the email on file how do you get that switched over and so that's kind of a challenge huh yeah yeah you do have to contact the state office to to make that happen and you know
they can be super busy this time of year especially with the corona over there in colorado it's running rampant over there in colorado yeah i do believe a few offices may be shut down actually too you're running into that a little bit i'm getting a little uh little uh you know fast busy when you're calling a few of those yeah yeah i have heard a couple voicemails saying that they are shut down so get it time to get your application in make sure you can get into your accounts if you can't you got to call an office have them recent verify the email on file send you a reset password to that email and then you can get in just one of the many things that you're gonna have to encounter how many points you got over there in colorado why i think i'm sitting on a a big zero i think we've just as well hashed over to prior podcast he's still crushing me over him using his points in an area
that should have produced and because he and he still harbors harsh feelings toward in here we we learned where not to hunt out of that so it's all good well they doubled the tags and who was to know who was exactly exactly it could have easily went the other way and had the greatest time of my life yeah since i didn't i'm still gonna hold you accountable there was a lady that killed a giant why why and we know we know we know her so there was yeah she did it happens well what else what else is on the front burner any tips and tricks for application wise why don't we can give our listeners right now i just wouldn't wait on colorado wouldn't hesitate get in um of course we've all already hounded into their minds of the season dates uh-huh so well yeah you're not really gonna there's really nothing unless i'm missing something there's nothing now between
now on april 7th we're not waiting on any results carter the nevada guy draw came out for the few guy draw was tough we had guys with 17 18 points that weren't drawn early rifles you know less desirable rifle hunts so pretty tough so there's nothing to wait for i guess what we're saying there's you're not gonna gauge the winter winter's not been crushing statewide a couple little pockets here and there but nothing colorado winter yeah colorado winter nothing to normally totally stay away from so get them in and don't get to that last few days i shudder to think what the last few days without full functional offices and staff are going to look like trying to get a hold and the 800 number or whatever the draw draw contractor number is 50 times worse than trying to call an office so good luck getting through yeah a little bit sooner deadlines you know montana deer and elk and
then uh wyoming buffalo as well coming up quick that's next week we got that coming up april 1st for montana we got all our guys in there adam and i cranked on those a bit and kind of exciting got got me fired up actually he's lied myself how about that did you actually go through it and do it yeah i got to the checkout screen and then decided i'm gonna x out and go do a podcast and see how i feel about it in an hour time down i'll tell you oh that's a mule deer junkie for you he's gonna pay 700 hundred dollars for a general tag application one in 200 shot at 270 at a 270 tag 270 tag well there's some big deer that come out of that country so it's hard to ignore it and with the corona out there maybe i have a one in 150 shot maybe it gets a little bit better huh i don't know but you know wyoming bison your best shot at a free range bison application and guess best odds march
31st it isn't it isn't terrible odds it's not bad it's 4 500 bucks if we're just gonna round the whole numbers we'll do that i always every time i think of wyoming bison i can't get our good friend mckenzie out of my mind when he was a grind and it was tough it depends on the weather years ago it could be a grinder it was a grinder he went back last year with his dad and had a great hunt killed another great one i know everybody a lot of guys did good it just took them to the end that couple years ago i think you talked me into it why i'll get it in by tuesday come on snow and bitter cold you're gonna do it yeah promise you get pinky you get pinky promise how much meat do you get off one of those oh a lot yeah that's right you're gonna do hard times like what's going on right that's right get you through hard times i've normally have yes mr car have you seen what the
tag fee is 45 i just said 45 hundred dollars in corona times that's a lot it's not like dog years there's no multiplication factor i mean economies it might be but hey you hey coming from somebody that shot one when he was 15 years old and says buffalo i done that a long time ago why would you want one of those now hey i mean geez i know somebody wants else wants to shoot one too yeah i know i know i wish i could i would shoot one nowadays like back then that's a distant memory keep in mind 30 years ago 30 30 do you remember how old are you chris and what you guys 35 ish i i i ask you four to five times a year chris was paint playing with his belly button in a bathtub 30 years ago that's probably correct why what do you got so you kind of quiet over there you about just still over here just waiting
to get back to colorado i'm going to let you guys push it he wants to get off and how to and pushing tonka trucks around on his knees why did we get you in trouble last time we had you on the podcast are you are you out of hot water can we talk about that or not no find out the girlfriend does listen to the podcast we had specifically a lot more female listeners than i thought well and it was it was she obviously listens because of wyatt's association but what was the specific comment that she keyed in on us up what was the setting we were talking it was hand in hand with the sun setting and how to know oh yeah you were you were it was on the kidney stones yeah but you but she didn't call you about it you way to tell you guys don't live in the same town you're not far away but way to tell she had you in person right before she brought it up yeah out for out for our sunday walk and she
hand in hand she wanted to visit you guys turn you look in each other's eyes and she says so you really didn't want to talk to me huh i believe that's the comment i made is i didn't want to talk to her that time because she was proving me wrong so i am of little value i'm i'm a nurse and i didn't help you you really believe that did it go down like that basically basically she's a good lady why we like just just so everybody knows we're just giving giving her a little just teasing but it was fine it was in the regards to the kidney stone crawling to the hospital calling to the truck and i don't know she was and to keep it real she's two hours away of hard driving huh yes nothing really she can do to help and you don't mean that in a bad way but there's nothing anybody can do when you're all right anyway tough hombre
just like wyatt erp i think that's the name's appropriate no more creatine no funny drinks just water all right just water all right okay sounds good well good luck with colorado all right let's let him go all right did you know about any of that chris no she she freaking what do you mean you said in the pocket i was no help she's like what do you didn't want to talk to me really i mean they their relationship grew from that yeah come on tell me it didn't grow you know and helping them grow too it's okay to throw a little bit of here and there just just you know test test them out a little bit so bronson what's the most question well i'm just wondering what is the most asked question that you're fielding at the call center right now well for about the last two three weeks and probably for the next three weeks two three weeks it'll be colorado deer it seems like it's that way every year
uh simply because there's so many options two to three rifle hunts in every unit sometimes more sometimes a high country rifle hunt and then archeries and muzzles and point tiers from zero to 26 right yeah and options everywhere and then of course the date shifting later this year have a lot of people interested in that and some people are looking forward to 2021 or looking at saying should they wait and uh our general messages is don't um for a couple reasons uh one get it get what you can while you can get it point creeps alive and well and harsh in colorado uh it really is it's difficult kill them while they're alive and we're we're thinking it's probably going to get worse in the next two years well the thing is you kill them while they're alive like you could have a devastating winter this winter um you're going to have point creep could point creep more than anybody even
things you got these low tag number especially the low tag number groups where you end up with just a few applicants who make all the difference in the world and what it takes to draw just a few applicants on 10 5 10 15 very important to keep in mind everybody talks about point creep how much is it going to jump what's obviously a product of who applies this year but you hit the nail on the head if you're talking about a unit with a thousand deer tags and three or four hundred of them going to non-residents gonna have a lot less impact very minimal you might say in a situation like that versus units with 30 to 50 total tags or 10 or 20 and you got three to five to eight total non-resident tags eight living people out there with your points or more that can do damage it's pretty volatile yeah yeah yeah no there's no question and so you know a lot of guys and it's a natural human thing you
want to make the most of the points you've saved and and whatnot there's guys with 10 points and what do i do and then they look at a unit takes you know maybe some guys drew with six you know and a hundred percent draw with seven you know that it's hard for them to use 10 points on that it's kind of like in the college days i won't you can't talk about those days those are off limits for the podcast no my marriage is staying intact okay i can't even finish it because that's funny stuff i don't care who you are but when you're you go on a group date you got about come on six or eight or ten of you and everybody's handed a ten dollar bill you'd ever do one of these dates my wife and i did it's actually our first date anyway you got to go to the store and it might have been five bucks i don't remember
it wasn't a big amount of money you got to go to the store of course this was 1995 or six so you could buy a lot more five dollars back then you can now oh yeah but it's kind of like when you go then and and you're you're supposed to make a meal the group of six or eight couples and everybody goes and buys you can't talk you buy something and then you got to come back and make it and uh you want to come in by the skin of your teeth if you got five bucks you want to buy four hundred nine four dollars and ninety seven dollars ninety seven cents worth of groceries you want to come in by the skin of your teeth so you might grab free packets of mail and and a packet of mustard so that's free right or whatever whatever the ingredients might be whatever you're gonna make you want to come in you don't want to leave two dollars on the table when you could have spent the full five
that's kind of what you're talking about and call people want to spend every inch yeah people want to burn 10 points on a unit that was drawn one percent with 10 points they want to be the one guy that got got it with 10 well it does feel good to do that once in a while but having said that we've got guys i talked to a guy today i got 20 points okay i've been doing this for 20 years and i said yeah you've been trying to get just something out of reach 20 years in a row or fit the last 15 really and he's and now you're sitting at 20 and you're still doing it you're still doing it and so anyway yeah that's it's a natural thing you're gonna have to it's a natural thing but our point is to go hunting burning something that takes two or three points less than what you got especially if you've got 8 10 12 15 60 what does it matter if it's the kind of hunt you want yeah get that out of your
mind that you quote wasted two points you didn't waste two points you got drawn you got drawn you didn't waste anything that's right so i just i got a question this is a little off topic just like is this i'm not i want to ask you a question chris will you guys ever look at a gas pump the same ever again i doubt it ever think about that a moment in time the coronavirus has changed the way we look at gas pumps i look at that thing and i go i need gas i look at my guest i look at my gas cage i need gas or look at the gas pump that's gonna kill me i look at the gas cage what are other gas let's talk about other things that that elicit that same reaction one of for me is one you can't go in the banks anymore right everything has to be done through the drive-thru the little canister bronson gets mad throws a fit huh you're throwing a fit they're charging you five dollars on this
account that you didn't authorize and it makes you mad yeah you didn't read the fine print whatever whatever but that's not what we're talking about right now now you can't i can't go into my because i can't go into another bank and open an account okay okay so that's another story okay but i don't mad every time you gotta get money out or you gotta put money in you gotta use the little canister it's all drive-thru now which we use quite a bit but now every person is handling that same we'll call it a little money pod that's right every person every hand every hand about that every about that that's they need to have little they say they do alcohol wipes they say i've read they have a little sign they have a little sign we're doing this but that's on the inside and and i don't know if you
gotta push the button that says send that button's not getting clean all of it all of that yes so what where the canister goes flying up into outer space down underground and ends up over there inside the building i don't like and then they send back stuff okay go to the mail we go to the mail we open up the mailbox and we pull out letters where's that been well they came from various places across the country how about two or three weeks ago you and i got got something here at the office and from china remember yeah there was a package i don't i think it was for john and i'm like it was in chinese the right it was was not made in china this was literally from china parts from china all the writing was chinese and i look at it and i go that's a terrorist act this is this is three to four weeks ago be
charged for this you know so we put it on john's desk and we walked away and we washed our hands shut our shut the door shut his door shut the other door left it to his own office lit a bug bomb and he'll come in he'll come in touch it and then go home right daddy rat goes home with white on his legs right right chris daddy aunt daddy aunt shuffling his way back and is there jen is so anyway i what about the free newspapers that are thrown at your base your steps for you know the daily sentinel all the ads all this kind of stuff what about that huh i'm just saying you know and okay and this is your answer tell me about your question is no sheep you get high populations of sheep what happens potentially you you don't have spatial separation stuff how about rabbits how about rabbits about coyotes i mean it's just part of it you got the plague you got parvo you got each other
everything yeah so anyway all right so now back to colorado back i just i don't know i just gas pumps gas pumps to banks to parvo yeah to uh it's changing our life everything's changing our everybody's lives out there so anyway um colorado deer colorado deer so let's just say there's lots of guys guys calling in well i got two points what are you gonna do what are you gonna tell them brownson well usually start with the with the uh weapon preference and if they want to go everybody wants to go when i say everybody 80 they want to hunt third or fourth well your options get pretty limited when you say i only want to hunt november with a rifle because doesn't everybody so you start looking generally you're gonna have to look at units with a lot of tags you know that 18 cluster the 35 clusters 43s you know of course 33s 34s which chris you know chris and i know all about that it's not
worth a fraction of the money it's printed on yeah that tag really well there's a few big deer emphasis on few but that's it but i'm talking a couple of giants that show up in the winter range but they come from private and obscure you know tight thick canyony brutal country you know 25 half the unit is a cliff face yeah 25 i mean you've got a lot of these units we're just rattling off here 71 711 you got things like that that what's the common denominator is a lot of hunters the reasons you can draw something in november third season is not because they've got 10 tags you've got hundreds and sometimes thousands of tags that's right um and so that's your trade-off and keep in mind not hunted colorado before during the second and third rifle seasons you've got what also going on at the same time over the counter in most of the state in most of the states you got over-the-counter
elk hunters and so you're just dealing with orange everywhere so anyway and and i had a guy say you know you talk so negatively about it i'm not thinking i'm thinking well it's not that you just you got to point it out because if we do it we do do it we i've done it for 15 years for the most part you just better be prepared for it because if you're like i'm sick of hunting my general i've heard so much about colorado you're gonna go over there how many people do you say jesus my general is better than that yes how many times do you hear it because they're only general hunting deer you go to colorado you're hunting deer and elk at the same and bears i mean bear tags are over the counter on always if you have another tag it's uh it's just something to be aware of now you start jumping up to four to five
to six points you can start looking at units with lower tag numbers or in some cases you can shift to that fourth season and draw some of those tags that take zero to one on the third that maybe they take two to four to draw the fourth you still got a lot of tags at 18 cluster you know the 25 clusters uh you know well it's kind of interesting but you weed out the you got a lot of tags but you weed out the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds attack that's right i think we should talk about two the differences in our take maybe on the second third versus fourth not not necessarily units but just the difference in seasons and like there's some prime examples like 22 fourth has been taken 20 points you know and 22 third has taken nine 22 second takes four yeah four to five so i mean there's a huge and that goes to november 1st this year think about what about 44 second that's
goes till november 1st right and some guys with six draw it uh versus let's say third season let's look at that 22 100 with 22 we're talking two points talking non-risk drawing odds that's right and so you know and i know guys that are got 24 that are thinking about or contemplating it who knows what will actually happen and then you jump to a fourth which is 67 percent draw 24 points last year yeah 25 for this year so anyway part of the drawing odds real quick if you're looking at the drawing odds in the magazine or on our website which you should be remember those are points last year you have to minus one off of your level now to plug yourself into that equation last year how you would have entered the last year did you have if you have 10 now you had nine last year just keep that in mind obvious things that maybe some people just they overlook it because they're you know
what they're looking at these draws and anyway and then second third versus fourth in my mind bronson like think about this we're so excited for next year right the season dates are so exciting i mean we're gonna be there you you all should be there everybody should be there right guarantee i'm not gonna be there where most people think they're gonna want to be there though okay i'm gonna go earlier i'm gonna just give you that hint right there there you go and that's my point the guys are excited about third and fourth well maybe the second is the best depending on when the storms hit it's gonna end on november 7th i had this discussion with somebody that was contemplating on drawing this year or next year um they had the points to draw a fourth season and the dates next year or even later this year is what the 18th to the 22nd next year it's uh goes the 28th 24 to 28 yeah that
right next year yep no next year the second goes the 24th no i'm talking the fourth in 2021 the fourth in 2021 goes november 24 to 28 okay so they're contemplating those versus this year the 18 to 22nd i'm like and the unit that they were going in had hundreds and hundreds of tags hundreds on the second third and i said let me paint this picture you've got this year they're late next year they're even later you've got a second season that goes till november 7th a break and then a third that's like the 13th to the 19th and then you're gonna want to go there and you're with a grin and you're gonna conquer the world because you have the best season on the latest hunt ever and he said in recent history i'm i'm putting in this year i'm drawing this year that's right and he should i think you're that's a you're hunting after everybody gets done this year we go through a winner who knows what
it's gonna be like yeah that's right that's out of your control and then next year you're gonna wait till the late the second has never been later the third has never been later and you're the last gun that's right you're the last gun yeah that's right john and i experienced that two years ago we went on the the later season any unit that's a lot of tags before you exactly and the storms came in early the guys on the earlier seasons had great hunts killed bigger deer by the time we got there it just felt like everything was gone yeah remember that when when um i hunted the fourth and i think john was on the fourth in 18 yeah two years ago yeah and or three dude i lose track three oh yeah i lose total track i mean but anyway for all intents and purposes let's call it several the the second was awesome chris there
was several 200 inches killed okay and because of social media we get to enjoy everybody's pictures right it's getting us wound up third no change in weather a little bit of complaining and murmuring right come into the fourth we were hunting leftovers of the second there it was brutal okay yeah and that's that's kind of what we're trying to paint the picture and it will be that that scenario will play out the worst in units with hundreds and hundreds of tags on second third season if you're in the unit let's just say you've got a hundred second season tags you've got 30 third season tags and 10 four season tags okay it may not happen you're they're going to take bucks from you but it may not be like the units that have 1500 second tags 1500 thirds and then 200 fours that is a recipe for hunting gut piles
be fine if you're hunting coyotes yeah buy a bear tag if there's a one that hasn't done yet you might kill one but anyway what so at the end of the i was going to bring up the opposite point of that but do you think they're going to be a couple oh monsters that appear that yes that were just in deep timber and didn't come out till late because you're never governor tag season dates for all intents purposes in normal auction tag season dates in normal states the the colorado governor and raffle deer tags west divide 25 can only go till november 30th that's right that's two days after the fourth a and devalues those tags it does you know in my opinion the nice thing is for those tags they get to plug and play in particular units september 1st right with the yeah that's kind of nice yeah but having said that i mean you've got general season let's call it general it's limited entry units but
you've got limited entry deer tags that were drawn with points that are you know out there killing stuff left and right a lot i do think there will be chris and i think i i think in those low deer density units with the moderate to lower tag numbers because of the low densities i think those potentially have that now in units with a lot of deer yeah you still have the potential for something to show up but if you just go with the odds i i don't like them i don't like my odds in that situation so i think people will burn a lot of points on the fourth in 2021 they will because the dates are unlike anything we've ever seen in our life when do you ever in your life get to hunt deer with a rifle november 24th to 28th how about some places in nevada arizona when you go to late tag and some of these crappy
units so to speak arizona late rifles on the kaibab 12b 12b 12b that's about it i mean really every 15 years for non-resident on that one or 20 20 plus and if it's a strip or whatever so yeah a lot to consider but i we're just and what's and here okay so now let's let's flesh it out at the end of the day you haven't taught me anything i'm a listener of epic and you guys are telling me all this stuff and i'm doing just i don't know the takeaway i don't know the takeaway okay what is that is a second now at the end of the day where should i go i'm ready to go third you're gonna do fourth and which which year do you do it and that's what i guess part of it a lot of the equation is is you personally how did the corona hurt you this year is this is a year you don't want to hunt is it a year you don't have time you do have time and then and or do you really want to go next year and and
play with the season dates because you'll never be able to do it again i mean there's a lot that goes into it um and then second versus third versus fourth that's those are all personal personal uh decisions sometimes guys can hunt let's let's say 44 you want to hunt the best unit in the state go hunt 44 second you don't have the points to hunt the third or fourth maybe you get you maybe you play the you know luck card and hope for good weather and you kill a giant you steal a giant off the best unit in the state for seven or eight points for a non-resident you know what i mean and so there's there's options to go and hunt otherwise you know unobtainable units on earlier season dates or maybe less desirable you know and then some guys just want to take and hunt the best season dates no matter what on a less desirable unit yeah and that's that's the trade-off and we've done there's
no perfect answer we've done the full spectrum we've used our points and gotten what we thought was the best tag for our points we've also played season dates only you've done that in recent years gone fourths in years that you're like i want to go on the fourth this year all i got time to do line up and draw fourth and you go hunt don't get one thing in your head and get stuck on that thing i guess you got to be a little bit adaptable if you've got points to do some damage in colorado this year go in the air with your eyes wide open a little bit i will say carter there's a lot um less tendency for a second season to out creep you than a third or fourth this year oh yeah that's underutilized totally i the biggest second biggest deer i ever shot in colorado i killed november second rutting their guts out that year there was an unprecedented amount of snow it was 2004
it was it was um it was my first time to colorado i thought this is the garden of eden i've never seen anything like this 16 years ago yeah that's what keeps us going back it's a lot like mexico i've never seen anything like that one great year you go for the next 10 praying to have something like that but but they were rutting and i actually saw him the night before couldn't kill him uh that night killed him november 2nd and this is the one with the bullet hole through the antler yeah i don't know how that got there either still don't not proven huh no way to prove it either no way to prove it and you know i know an interesting fact about that another one when i caped that thing out i remember i caped it out and peeled up you know you're cutting the ears off on the on the side of the face found a 22 uh one of those subsonic 22 uh bullets fling flat right there against it been healed over
laying there somebody tried to shoot him in the air in the past kill him boat gotta be a poacher one of those you know they're a little bit longer than a regular 22 long rifle yeah they're at the 22 rimfire it's a 22 rimfire you think it wasn't a 22 250 no it was it was solid little lead laying flat i've seen them my dad had something they're supposed to be subsonic they're like quieter i don't know like shooting stuff like a short 22 kind of bit yeah yeah but but but it was a long laying flat right there behind its ear like someone tried to shoot it right right behind the ear right and uh kind of a neat i still have that little bullet i'll bring it in i got it no just like the just like the broadhead out of my henry mountains buck in the shoulder didn't find that until the meat hunter a meat cutter
went picked up the meat remember yeah he's like and he's like hey you might be interested in this shoulder blade it's got a broadhead and i just assumed over i just he's like yeah i says well i i crisscrossed it from both days so it's probably one of mine i don't think so and it's not we should show a picture of that sometime it's pretty amazing awesome it actually went in what's that bone that comes out of the shoulder blade that's raised by yeah you got an inch and a half raised there's a technical term for it i'm sure but clavicle i don't know what it is anyway went in there yeah scapula well that's the whole i thought that's the back part yeah that's the whole shoulder blade right there but it's the the fin that you gotta cut down when you when you bone meat out you gotta cut down on both sides of it yes and then the raised fin it went in penetrated that and
it healed around healed around it and this broadhead is in perfect shape still you could you could break that apart but there's no way to get it out of the out of the bone it's healed in there the arrow shaft is gone brought it in there buck was exhibiting nothing we watched that thing for weeks yeah never exhibited anything and i remember grew great and somebody at the expo that year came up to us members had you that find a scar or anything in that buck and we're like no didn't see a scar but i got someone's broadhead and they told us a story that guys the year before had shot that thing right smack smack in that in that shoulder and obviously got away and he healed and he grew 20 something inches probably a lot of times they'll one side or the other be messed up because of that but anyway like you like you said bronson we've hunted the third second thirds and force you know
60 61 70 all the you know 35s 18 68s all the gunness and stuff 54 55 all of that stuff um you know 22s 21s hey i love 21 i don't know why it's haven't been there for 10 years or so have we might have to go back it's it's just i just love the country so anyway you know it's so many options over there you look at that unit of colorado even just the western part where we public land you know self-guided hunters tend to gravitate to man the options are endless and uh so having applied ourselves i mean i don't i don't know what i want i've got some points to do damage i'm in your same boat people out there i just uh i uh if you call in i'll consult you and we could just uh and then by the end of the phone call i'll be like that sucker he should just do this like i tell him to but then the same thing is i i can't even i don't even know what i'm gonna do isn't that crazy
yeah there's so many options that's what we love about colorado of course the elk we covered the elk and whatnot we've covered the whole colorado section of our publication already on a podcast we just get so many questions about the deer that's it's a deer factory you know and so pick something in your slot don't be too afraid of it the there this is the new normal in colorado what i mean by that is there nothing is super top heavy on big bucks it's just not it's not like it used to be it's not drive around and drink pepsi and shoot 180 bucks out of your pickup window like some places were frankly 10 to 12 years ago it's not like that so it the expectations are different be willing to live with what happens and be willing to then just go back frequently you know you got a lot of different ways you can go back we talked about earlier you got archery hunts you got muzzle
loader hunts two to three four rifle hunts if they've got an early high country and just go back often you know kind of like what we try to say in wyoming same thing go as often as you can or working into your rotation let's uh let's give devin a call what do you think he's working do you think he's really we'll find out plugging and playing over there and see what he's doing maybe he's talking to some hunters i love checking he will get he will definitely screen his calls hello what are you doing just trying to get some doll sheet pictures oh all right working on some hunts or uh you mean submissions got some hunts our hunt giveaways yep working on uh working on some projects for guys i mean you got guys calling in wanting to wanting to have you doing a little research figuring out some
openings yep so uh devin what do you what do you what are you getting guys calling in for i mean you're you're kind of working with our outfitters and whatnot are you getting guys wanting to know if there's cancellations or you yeah yeah everyone's thinking the same thing that you know all the stuff going on is going to change draw odds but maybe we're all thinking the same thing yeah because nobody's quitting are we nobody's quitting that's what we've noticed a lot of people are hoping people are quitting but we joked about it i don't know we're at lunch or something today and we joked that diehard avid western big game hunters within reason i'm not advocating anything as far as what your first priorities are because we all know what those are we got families we got jobs and all that but the last thing to go from the other than other than you food is first hunting is second that's right
huh yeah isn't that what it feels like the paper's way down the list what's that toilet paper's way down oh yeah toilet paper's overrated right and the thing is we're talking with hunters right so they've all got lighters they've got pyro putty in their pack i mean they've got they're generally a prepared people if we can call them that they are they're they're prepared they can make something out of nothing and if they had to they just grab a gun even in the hills east of la that uh take down a black tail and have a skin skin back and feed feed the neighborhood if they need to that's probably right too but they'd want to be fda approved by heck so hey devin tell me uh you ever been out in the hills and maybe run out of tp when you had a client in your truck i mean anything crazy going on in that little uh tundra you got there over the years
uh well yeah you learned your lesson there's a there's a there's wipes in a hard case in a custom seat cover case behind my seat wow come on why is it gonna be unprepared why the custom why the custom seat cover just curious just dirt blood mud you know stuff like that does your does your driver you can you can like you can say hey i want a compartment here in the pack pouch how about like a 1984 or 7 or 6 samurai whatever what is that thing you got oh the samurai yeah it's an 86 do they make custom do they make seat covers for that it has seat covers no way so anyway so what led up to being so prepared with the wipes oh people my my well when you have you know 60 of your shirts are sleeveless you know you're not prepared all right yeah i heard that some of the thrift stores no i'm that was that was a lie i'm not
gonna say that all right all right well it's uh having a rash on uh t-shirts but they're not so everything uh everything business as usual devon people are booking hunts and having you research hunts and whatnot yep how about the photos that one come through for colorado eastern plains outfitters so wow yep busy busy yeah i do think that there's going to be the natural 10 you know some of the people are going to they're going to pull back slightly or we anticipate maybe some openings this is obviously just so new right now it's not like we're getting overrun with cancellations and openings yet uh we do anticipate some of that to happen and that is one of the other benefits of being an epic outdoors member is we're here we have a network of outfitters we've already known trust and use year after year after year when they call and tell us hey somebody's having a hard time coming up up here
this year whether that's canada which we've got the whole set of issues there with the international border being closed there right now but even on the western states with tags that have guaranteed tags or people that maybe were penciled in with the points to draw a certain unit or a group of people that they're going to back out now i could see something like that happen the coming weeks where an outfitter that we thought was completely full even with draw tag clients with points to draw could change devon and you're staying on top of that basically with our outfitter yeah and and the outfitters we work with are really good at updating you know all of us pretty much you know we get updates every day yeah well you got any elk hunts come through you got anything anything hot out there that's come through that you feel like man that's a good opportunity somebody should be jumping on that
yeah we got september rifle elk hunts in utah three of them you know those have been booked up for years so how much do you remember what they do you remember what they come through out i mean some some of those are pricey because they're they're awesome opportunities yeah they're they were 15,000 per hunter there's three of them okay all right well we'll let you get back to work just just wanted to make sure you were still here in the office you didn't you didn't run from the virus that came in from bronson going out to lunch no i didn't get out of the truck yeah you i didn't get out of the truck devon don't let him fool you he's the one that that laced decon back into our office as we've been talking my office and my man home and quite so far pretty much i heard you're pretty prepared you had you had to go home you had to go check on to go back and grab the samurai some cash
and some bullets is that well we thought we were better off till we cleaned out our expired food from our fridge and then we realized maybe we're in trouble that's kind of funny so you know you were telling me a story bronson bachelor's in the fridge good cheese because it was past the expiration date and i said was there mold on it no dude you don't throw away cheese just huh grade it like the l cunt man it's what you can't you'd visibly see mold if it was from september that had to be well it was a shrink wrap one of those tillamook sticks you know like you probably would have been okay oh the ones with preservatives and msgs and all that stuff in there with the little meat stick and a cheese next to it you can't that stuff can't go bad come on devon throwing away money money don't grow on trees devon well when yeah when we throw the eggs out and throw them in the field and they're
bouncing like yeah tell us that story so chris i don't i don't know if these were your eggs chris chris is listening over here devon so yeah we made sure we weren't throwing them on the on the on the yard chris don't worry why he's got a heck of a arm i don't know i got a real nicely manicured yard so what i want to know is it's it's evening time around the bachelor pad right i don't know if this is before chris's parents uh were uh moving down this way but what how do you say hey go get go to the fridge and grab some eggs let's chuck some eggs how where does how do you start that game then you and why we just took the garbage out and i told why i said dude we're not gonna we don't want to put these eggs in the they'll get crushed and leak everywhere you know he's like well let's just go chuck them out in the in the field you know let's go feed the rack outside and
i throw one and it splats you know way out there in the bushes and every one of the everyone why it threw bounce like four feet in the air no i don't know it's possible first i'm like eggs don't go bad eggs don't go bad i don't think because they're in the fridge and bronson they're tight like i don't know their oxygen cannot get in there i'm not a doctor i i don't but i'm not buying it but say you got a hairline fracture in that egg carter oh yeah what's the number one disease that comes from raw eggs starts with an s ends with an illa ends with illa okay salmonella i've heard that's bad juju i don't want it it could probably kill the corona so you see miss a hairline fracture you let them go too long in your fridge and they're probably about to hatch i don't know i don't know how old you guys are november you know what eggs from november and it's march
something like that well when why it does his regular egg routine and eats eats a pair of them every morning how do you not turn over eggs till for four months four months is this a dozen or did you guys buy a 12 there was a couple gross isn't a gross 144 a dozen dozen it's not a gross well all right we're just wondering how things you got you and wyatt are still planning on going to alaska you guys don't have the corona fear do you you're you're still going up there on your moose hunt oh yeah right on i sure hope so planning on it well it'll i'm sure by summer they're saying the experts at least that the the heat will start to reduce the life longevity of this virus outside of you know cold and all that we did have a guy ask me if he if i thought the deer would get the corona you did not yeah i did yeah yeah he says hey do you think the deer will contract this coronavirus and
they'll have issues and i'm like i don't know we might need to make some ventilators for these deer you know we should get a vet in here on the podcast and answer that question we know one we should call him right all right okay all right devon keep at it keep at it all right see you i was wondering should we call my just call my wife and not even not even tell her she's on the podcast just see if she's happy to be married to a hunter at this point i guess chris can edit whatever she answers the phone as because who knows where this is going i don't know it's up to you this is your idea i want to be on the record this is your idea hello hey babe how are you good how are you um good good hey i was just wondering with all this corona scare if you're if you're all these memes about hunters and stuff if
you're truly happy you're married to a hunter now like don't you think it's kind of nice calling me to ask you that well i was just wondering if you think it's if you think it's if you think it's kind of nice that somebody can go out and kill stuff and bring it home you know go out well i've always thought that before i even met you i thought that did you yeah is that what sealed the deal no wow what sealed the deal we're innocent bystanders chris and i jenna just want you to know yeah i got a feeling that you're podcasting this i just wanted on record that you're happy that i hunt yes he's this is entrapment he's entrapping you sufficiently to provide food for the family now all the recreational hunting you do you probably don't want to take that up in public so it's the most expensive best protein i know for our family nothing but the best lobster and shrimp and fine dining for
the cost but those might have coronavirus you never know is that the one you're talking about so we're narrowing it down now to just the last few weeks and whatever the future of corona brings well it just was on my mind you're trying to put our whole life into those few weeks i think we're i think we're good we'll see you later babe goodbye oh chris that was abrupt i don't carter you better that's not i didn't like the way it was going it was very very abrupt all right well this was this was the meme i think you're referring to jason it's and many of you have seen this it says women are now looking at their boyfriends or men and wondering if that fool can hunt make a fire fight etc and now you're just second guessing them skinny jeans so well and that i don't know what women think well it's got to cross their mind i don't know i don't yeah you know you want to provide her
we all think about it think about it crazy times ahead of us in the animal world okay in in situations where animals create mates you know they're not you know they're not no what i mean by that is they have pairs yeah deer is not this they don't stick around and raise their fawns but but we talk about wolves or we talk about you know in some cases lions or different things that prides a lion what is the their job they're the provider and what are the females selecting for naturally the provider the strongest the fittest the one that brings meat but that's right that's animal he owns the place that's animal he owns the place yeah that can protect defend and provide that's right right yeah that's right that's coming out right now i think it would be wouldn't you like if you were natural well we're all cavemen i i mean at some point it's you got to be able to kill and make a fire and eat
and survive in the cave get out of the elements provide a shelter lady you'd want somebody that could do that wouldn't you huh chris no what do you think chris has been really quiet i picked one that could hunt for me oh yeah she is she's a keeper yes in fact so that way i don't know we should go down these let's go let's go down this road i shouldn't have said anything whose gun did you use i used my girlfriend's gun to kill my elk this was in uh new mexico yeah a year or two ago i don't remember which year did she have it set up right she knew ballistics drops she's telling you over the head hey two minutes two two point four whatever it was all set up and then what happened is i got out there with with my gun and i had a new rangefinder right yeah first cardinal sins yeah first time i
actually had her pick up the rangefinder as i was as she was coming out to the hunt so brand new rangefinder what could go wrong with that yeah well i don't know bronson you had one of those it was brand new brand new and i got a brand new one sick which they're pretty dang good rangefinders that one wasn't awesome anxiety anyway so go ahead so we get out there doing the couple days before the hunt was to start and i hit my range and shot and my gun was not even close and we spent a bunch of time messing with it and i just at a certain point we were like yeah let's just focus on scouting instead of trying to figure a gun out and so ended up using her gun wow wow huh well she's awesome that doesn't happen every day she's out there i'm awesome dude hey hey well i don't well all right i'm not gonna go
down that road but let's go down this road let's give a pair of diamondbacks away vortex good road to go huh kind of that road that i was headed down the last podcast we uh we did we gave away well uh stealth cam we're just in the giving mood i don't know maybe it's just i don't it caused a little excitement a little frenzy there's gonna be more of this we get a lot of texts and emails right now people are kind of cooped up and they're begging for like seven podcasts a week and we're sorry we just can't do that but so if you're not scared of us giving you the corona and sending this to you in the mail it's in a sealed shrink wrap it is just wear rubber gloves when you take off the wrap you never know what do we what do we got what magnification 10 by 42 binos the hds and uh we appreciate uh vortex they dropped them off here at the office said hey throw these out on
the podcast so there you go vortex we appreciate you they support us here at epic we support them as well they make some fine products a lot more of this coming at you just a little hint hint yeah what are you what are we gonna do all right we're gonna do the same thing that we did last week on the trail camera what you got to do is if you're listening to this podcast right now on your phone take a screenshot and post that to either your story or a regular post in instagram or facebook and tag us at epic underscore hunts and if you don't know how to screenshot or do any of that you can also just take a photo take a selfie of yourself listening to the podcast or take a picture of the screen of the podcast where if you're listening in your truck take a picture of the truck screen whatever post that and you will be entered to win and we're gonna give them let's give them a few days here
you want to do that let's do that on a uh so the deadline will be 11 59 p.m on april 3rd it's on the books i wonder if we should just uh should we should we try our little uh our vortex friend and just see if they have anything coming out this year throw him out huh little shout out to vortex let's give him a see what he's doing today better say we're live go ahead i'll let you start this off just send coming from your phone he's not going to know all right match voice doesn't match this is paul paul jason carter adam bronson epic outdoors podcast how you doing good how are you guys doing good man good just uh trying to avoid getting the corona here quarantined in the epic office how are you uh i'm doing the same you honkered getting some work done still paul and you're a busy guy all over well you know we're uh getting a little bit done well as much as you can with uh with what
what things are placed upon us all but we just uh we announced uh we're going to give away a pair of diamondback 10x42s that you were helpful uh in helping us get we just announced that we're going to announce it on this podcast but just very good to give you a quick call cold turkey of course you haven't even scripted any of this but anything uh on the front of vortex wise that's uh kind of the buzz you want to give some listeners uh interest in if should they want to should they want to talk about products or bino scopes whatever that's kind of new and hot right now new stuff coming out anything you know well we we just released that new uh 3 to 15 light hunter tactical that's a that's a sweet scope it'll be a big deal for guys out west that are you know want to stretch their effective range
out there um what's it what's what part of it is is new and exciting about it like give us just a quick rundown yeah so uh 30 millimeter tube uh great glass in it it's got a locking elevation turn on it uh you can set a zero stop it's got a side illumination button on it um yeah just a so the zero stops nice because you you you know you know where you come back where zero is where back in the day you just keep on you could be a revolution off and you're way off yeah so you don't have to worry about that anymore and then then where that elevation turret locks you don't have to worry about it you know getting bumped in your backpack or oh nice that locking feature and you said the magnification was 3 to 16 what was the objective on it's it's so it's a 3 to 15 by 42 or you can also get it in a
3 to 15 by 50 a little more light really lightweight scope just comes in a little over 19 ounces dude that's really light i thought 22 was light yeah no it's it's super lightweight man that's great would that probably work for a muzzleloader scope too huh you bet wow because muzzleloaders are already 14 pounds heavy you know you need to shave all you can get i know they're so heavy but well that's awesome what about anything else paul that uh i think you did tip jason i off about that one that's uh what those are available and ready now then no scope yeah yeah yep yep they're starting to show up and uh out in stores all over the place good well we did get our hands on some of the uh the uh 18 by 56 uhd pretty pretty impressive very impressive yeah i'm glad you glad you guys like in there yeah the 18 power it gives you a little little edge on some of the standard 15s that uh
some competing brands are out there with and so the glass is sharp pretty impressive it is it is very impressed by that that's a newer product right paul those have been fairly popular since their launch i would assume uh yeah the lat right before hunting season last year and they started to hit the market yeah guys guys love them good buddy of ours uh was hunting javelina in arizona and hit him and his uh brother were sharing a pair and uh anyway i said why don't you come on down and you know grab it grab one of these pairs of course we got from from you guys and uh anyway he's he said by far he said against any other 15 we have he said we chose these so pretty impressed pretty impressive nice well we just wanted to drop in on an ounce glad you even took our call and weren't screening it too much but glad we caught you in the office never know what you might be doing on a friday
you know like trying to have family time who knows so should be looking for some sheds and social distancing that's right well down here they're getting covered up with snow so i don't know where you're out in the world today but we're trying to just watch it snowing don't go to nevada till may 1st they'll put you in jail at least in the good counties all right okay we appreciate you thanks paul okay have a good day stay safe have a good weekend you bet you too hope he stays corona free yeah he's a good dude all right what else we're well i think we bounced around a few places i don't know do we need to wrap this thing up a little bit we're we're over an hour now are we really they say you know when we first came out with these podcasts people said you know what you shouldn't be going over 20 minutes that's people's attention span and then we get
guys that say dude you can't give us enough by the way just want to throw a little shout out there's a cop in la that hit us and said man you know the roads are empty i listen to all kinds of podcasts you guys can't do enough of them and anyway i just want to throw a little shout out he'll probably listen to this podcast and give him a smile but anyway shout out to you guys that are faithful listeners out there we we love our officers man you guys are awesome out there in the line of duty give us some confidence we're all here to you know get along stay along stay get along and stay along i guess and i challenge you guys to let the next person go right don't harass him too hard i got a couple of my buddies that are cops here in cedar and i'll go into the maverick course we'd all die if maverick didn't serve sandwiches right and so i'm like what you know just quit harassing people you know
let the next person go i don't know they get my wife every time so give her a ticket well stay safe have a great uh weekend and week as we close out march here it's hard to believe almost april 1st hopefully this uh this stuff passes sooner than later um be safe we're here we're doing business like we said we send email out to all of our membership we're here we're here to consult we're here to help you plan we're applying applying and applying stay corona free you
