You’re listening to the Epic Outdoors Podcast, brought to you by the Western Hunting and Conservation Expo in Utah, life Elevated. This is an event we don’t miss. So come and see the whole Epic Outdoors crew. February 13th through 16th 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah. For more details, go to hunt expo.com. Hey everybody, it’s Adam Bronson here in the Epic Outdoors Podcast. We got John, we got cash, we got Wyatt, Devon, Logan. That means the only person you don’t have is Carter. That’s why you’re hearing me and Josh. Oh, I guess Josh. Oh, and Josh. Yeah. Sorry Josh. No offense. He’s been gone so much. We actually just forgot about it. Hey, we’ll listen to this. So maybe we need to redo the intro. Josh, we acknowledged you. You’re here. We love you. There is a seat here. Some furniture might have been rearranged in your office, but it would be good to have you back. But anyway, glad to have everybody here today. Let’s give a quick shout out to our title sponsor, which is the Western Hunting Conservation Expo. That’s gonna be February 13 to 16, 20 25. Salt Lake City, our same booth location. It always is. I don’t know the number, but hey, you’ll find us. You can’t miss us. We’ve got all kinds of paraphernalia hanging and dangling from the roof, the rafters, right? Yep. Perfect.
00:01:22:27 –> 00:02:32:11
As it gets closer too, we’ll have, we’ll have lots more to say for sure, the booth number, but yeah, we will. But anyway, put that on your calendars. But for most hunters, they, they already know what they wanna take their wife to for Valentine’s Day. This fits every year, so it’s probably already on your calendar. Yeah, absolutely. Right. And Devin, we already know about, about you get a twofer twofer on this day. Yeah, pretty good. Winning, winning small wins. But anyway, appreciate them being the title sponsor for us. We’re looking forward to being back out there again. But today we wanted to first, I guess maybe slightly late doing this, but it’s been active and on our website and kicked off here for a few weeks, but we’ve just announced our 2025 Winter Epic Con membership drive for giveaway. We do a couple of these a year. We, we take, we take a lot of pride in some of these hunts that we’re picking. We have a lot, a lot of the guys have put input on this. We want hunts. That would be like what we would want ourselves. That’s the easiest way to put it. We say it every year, but that’s the honest truth. We don’t want to just, we don’t take free hunts. We don’t take discounted hunts. We don’t, you know, just whatever. We can find.
00:02:32:17 –> 00:03:46:24
Most of these, were taking years in advance to hold spots or dates or keep our foot in the door on same hunts year after year. And we thought we’d just kind of announced that. Maybe go through the hunts here and let everybody know that’s online right now. These, these are for selling. They would count any, any purchase you have towards this, or whether it be membership or gift membership for Christmas, or tickets to buy in conjunction with anything else on our website would qualify. Right, John? For our Black Friday special. Yeah, that’s right. Just do it before December 2nd, which is that Cyber Monday. So yeah, if, if you, this is gonna be, you know, released right during Thanksgiving break. Yeah. So you, you’re gonna have one day on Cyber Monday, if you wanna do like a combo, let’s say you, you’re, you’ve been looking at a pair of binos or something like that, and you need just a little bit more to get you over the, the 3000 mark to get the free tripod. Then you can, you know, combine that with, with some giveaway tickets or, or whatever else you want, memberships or whatever. Yeah. So keep that in mind. But obviously after this Black Friday special, this continues on till March 3rd. That’s the deadline. That’s usually a Monday. I haven’t looked at my phone, but that’s probably a Monday, John. Yeah. Anyway, March 3rd, that’s the entry deadline here.
00:03:46:24 –> 00:04:59:17
We’ll do the deadline or the drawing, sorry, within just a couple of days of that. That is March 3rd is a Monday. So let’s maybe take a few minutes and just go through the hunts that we’re giving away. These are hunts. I mean, I might start off by saying these are hunts that, yeah, I mean, most of them are, you know, 10, 20, 30, $40,000 hunts. They’re, they’re worth a lot of money. Naturally. They’re gonna have some entries in ’em. But, hey, I just got done doing a hunt this year, I guess, of a similar type origin. I had a doll sheet hunt and mountain caribou hunt up in Northwest Territories with Arctic Red River Outfitters. That’s a hunt that I actually won at our Utah Wild Sheet Foundation banquet three years ago. And those are hunts. Yeah, I mean, I’ve been to that banquet 20 something years, but, but you don’t, yeah. You’re there to support and whatever, but these are, these are things that just kind of happened and boom, had a 40 something thousand dollars doll sheet pun. And it can happen. And we’ve heard from a lot of people here recently this year. I mean, they’ve been killing some great animals. We just got a white tail in from Alberta the other day that Yeah, one of our homeowners. All of us made us, every one of us want to go go to Alberta next year. Yeah. What else? Giant Elk.
00:04:59:17 –> 00:06:07:22
Elk from this year on this giveaway that we’re giving, gonna give away a lot of great feedback from members that won these hunts. A lot of gear that we give away have a gear package as well. But let’s just dive into it real quick. I’ll run through these real fast. Again. E every one of these hunts are for 2025. And that’s fairly unique too, especially when you’re talking doll sheep, moose, and the caliber of elk and mule deer hunts that we have. And that’s, again, a testimony of the fact that we’re buying these hunts ahead of time and continually buying these high quality hunts. So we keep our foot in the door. So it’s, it’s really hard to find Devon like a doll sheet hunt for 2025. It is right now. I mean, we bought these probably two years ago for, you know, and now it’s time. So you can win this hunt early March. You’re going on the hunt this August, September, October. So first hunt we’re gonna talk about is a Yukon doll sheep hunt. This is a 10 day sheep hunt on the opening day. This is with North Curl Outfitters, Mack Watson, $40,000 hunt. You know, they specialize in remote horseback and ba backpack hunts there, Lonnie and, and Southern Lakes regions. They have high density of sheep, high cure rates.
00:06:07:28 –> 00:07:27:10
We’ve had a lot of members, Devin, haven’t we hunt, hunt with Mac over the last handful of years and have great reports, killing great rams. You’re gonna kill a sheep. This is a 10 day hunt. Again, includes all the flying days, everything like that. All, all the, everything. Like everything’s included in this one except for your travel and your tips up there. So high success, awesome hunt. Great Rams, $40,000. Again, this is for, you know, July 28 to au, July 28th to August 7th, 2025. Can’t beat that. It’s very hard to get a doll sheet hunt for 2025, like we just said. So second hunt I want, I hate is also in the Yukon, but this one’s for a giant moose. And I’ve actually been on this hunt. It’s been, geez, 10 years ago. I can’t believe that. Yeah. 2014 Jason and I went up. This is a, a 13 day Yukon moose hunt with dueling stone outfitters. Again, $35,000 hunt. September 17 to 29. That’s as late as you can go pretty much up there. It’s should be the, the best rut dates up there. We secured that known jarret for years and years. I’ve hunted sheep up there, I’ve hunted moose up there. But this is hunt again. We pay full price for, pick the dates we want. We’ve sent a lot of members of, of hunt here over the years. Either on hunts they’ve booked, or hunts they’ve won.
00:07:28:09 –> 00:08:32:29
We fly a white horse charter out from there. It runs a great camp. This is actually gonna be a lake hunt, a lake, but a boat hunt on a lake. This isn’t a float trip, but these lakes are big. Usually got a cabin on ’em. Got great accommodations. If the weather’s bad, you, you’ve got that. You’re not roughing it out in the little spike wall tent or something like that. They’ve also got a boat and you can run the lake. These lakes are miles and miles long. They’re big. So you’ve got a lot of maneuverability around the side of the lake to be able to hunt either side, get out in the middle call, listen to all that type of thing, but kills some great, great moose. His website kind of sells the story on that. So another awesome, awesome hunt for 20, 25, September 17 to 29. Yeah. And talk about the expo. Every year we take that moose that you killed with him to the expo and every year I’m just like, when we pick it up, it’s like, this is a freaking awesome moose. Yeah. It’s not even a 60 inch here. That’s why Jarre likes me to bring, it’s so awesome because everybody’s like, oh yeah, I wanna what? A 65 inch? You got 65? Yeah. Yeah, we do. But we’ll just shoot this. Oh yeah, yeah. It is like 59 and a half inches for our mass on the front time.
00:08:33:01 –> 00:09:50:03
It’s just an old, it’s true. Cool bull. But he likes it because it’s not quite 60 and everybody that says it says, I wish shoot thick. So it’s awesome. Anyway, it was an awesome trip. So that’s another awesome opportunity there. John, why don’t you talk about this next one. You’ve actually hunted this unit in Utah. This is a, yeah, this is a seven day hunt. Choose your whipping southwest desert. Seven day hunt with dusty trails outfitting. We’ve known Dusty for forever. And he actually was with me on that hunt on the southwest desert. That’s probably been 10 or 15, 12 years ago. Yeah, 12 years. Yeah, 12 years ago. 12. That’s the hunt he got struck by lightning on. Yeah. So before he was, you know, I don’t remember that story, but yeah. Yeah, he was loading his four wheeler and it was raining and getting outta the back of his truck. Yeah, he was getting outta the back and it hit and, and he was buzzing the whole night. You know, Jesus, Jesus. Just lucky to be alive when you get that close, you know. But yeah, this one’s a $37,000 hunt and hunter’s choice of season in 2025. So I, I went through, put together, you know, the, the kind of the advertising for this, this specific hunt. I was, I was shocked. I hadn’t seen some of the big bulls that, that Dusty’s been killing the last couple years.
00:09:50:12 –> 00:11:07:25
But, you know, I think, you know, legitimate opportunity for probably three 50 to three 70 glass bulls on that hunt. Yeah. You know, pretty, pretty awesome. Includes the landowner tag. So you can choose your season. You’re gonna find out in early March. You’re gonna be able to choose your season before the regular Utah draw takes place. Keep in mind these, these hunts for non-resident take 23 to 25 plus years to draw. You know, most people are gonna pick archery, early rifle, muzzle loader, probably you don’t have to, but you can go in November if you want. But most people aren’t gonna when you have the chance to hunt September. But this includes a unit wide landowner tag and guide fee for seven days. So hard to beat that. Been consistently killing great bulls like John said. And last year included. So should be a great chance for somebody to hunt Southwest Desert Unit, which borders, you know, 2 31 in Nevada. I mean, it’s got, got great bulls. So anyway. Awesome. Awesome elk opportunity for this year. 2025. So Devin, how about you wanna, you wanna talk about the next, the next one, the next elk that we got? Next one is with Joseph Graham with Graham’s Guide service in New Mexico. He’s got stuff in, he covers unit 34 n unit 36, both sides of the muscular reservation there. And this is a, is it five to six day? Yeah. Yeah.
00:11:07:25 –> 00:12:16:29
I guess unit wide tag comes with a tag right at 22 5. Yeah, they do a great job. We get, I can’t tell you how many good positive reports we get from guys every year that hunt with them. They just, they’re solid man. They do a great job. Just lots of elk in that country. Yeah. Oh yeah. It’s hard to, yeah. Great flexibility on this. You know, you’ve got like the archery hunts are the same dates, the, you know, September 1st through 24th roughly. You know, pick a, pick a window in there. But 36 has an earlier muzzle loader hunt there, right, Devin. And then they both have rifle hunts after that, I guess 30. And we’ve looked at the success rates on archery in there. It’s incredible. They’re not, it’s higher than anywhere I could think of. Yeah. There so many people that hunt 34 and 36 over the years, whether they draw their own tag and hunt there, whatnot. They, they, you know why you do a lot of, a lot of li license app people, a lot of guys ask for those two units. ’cause once they’ve been there, they, they love it because of the number of elk and action they get into. Definitely. Yeah. So anyway, target rich environment, no question. Yep, there you go. Gives the landowner tag guide fee again for 2025. Flexible on archery, muzzle loader, rifle, whatever season fits you and your schedule and preferences.
00:12:17:02 –> 00:13:28:23
We like those type of hunt hunts, just like the southwest desert hunts. So you can, if you’re an archer, it’s for you. If you’re a gun hunter of some kind, it’s for you. So anyway, shouldn’t be another great, great opportunity killing great bulls down there. So what’s next? Either Wyatt, Devon, why don’t you kick off the next one after that. Next one is a 2 31 unit, or sorry, unit 2 31 mule deer tag in Nevada with Greg Crow. Greg Crow’s notorious out there for hunting big deer and getting him killed. I mean, he is a buck killer. It comes with the landowner tag seven day guide service. And then that also includes your pick of the season. It can be either archery, muzzle order, or rifle out there in Nevada too. So it gives a guy a lot of choice. And then once you’re done with that hunt, the tag’s, yours too. If you need to continue hunting, you could continue hunting on your own or, or rebook more days. Yeah. The one thing about all these hunts that, you know, on this early giveaway that we do, we we’re gonna do the drawing, you know, within say March 6th, seventh, whatever, a few days after the deadline. None of these states, Utah, New Mexico or Nevada have run their draws yet. So when you have the option to, to book your season, you also, they have availability.
00:13:29:01 –> 00:14:36:21
It’s not like, well the only thing I have open is the, you know, first five days of the rifle hunt, which may or may not fit your schedule. They’re gonna be wide open. The state’s not done their draws yet. So you got all the flexibility in the world. And yeah, 2 31, we’ve, it’s been a popular one every year. You know, when Nevada, when Nevada’s on it’s, it’s hard to beat in two 30 or one’s one of those units that when it’s on, it’s, it’s as good as anywhere in the west. And Greg’s done well take a lot of great bucks for our clients and obviously his own clients and for years and years over there. So anyway. Awesome. Hunt again. 2025, every one of these. So Devin, why don’t you key up the last hunt. Maybe two more. Two more. Oh, two more, sorry. Yeah. The next one’s a Utah 2025 Utah mule deer hunt with bucks and bulls. Outfitters. This is a hunt you can’t even book if you want to. This is one of those that we keep our foot in the door on. Or, or, or it’s gone. Yeah. They, they only do two blocks of hunts. One’s late October, one’s September one to five, and this is September one to five where you’re hunting summer type bucks. Summer, summer pattern bucks. And yeah, they, I talked to ’em the other day and they have a, they have some great carryover. Yeah.
00:14:36:21 –> 00:15:48:17
So they, they killed some great bucks this year and some other bucks that got away that are gonna be alive next year. So it’s valued at 22,000. Yeah. September one to five and comes with the landowner tag. Yeah. Not a lot of opportunity to hunt a velvet mule deer with a rifle. And this is a great chance. Yeah, no it’s not. I wanna say the ranch is around 30,000, 20, 30,000 acres private land. So, yeah. And I would say the success rates for our winners on this one have been pretty high. They’ve some, some great bucks. Yeah. Yeah. They have unique opportunity. But September one to five people that know no mule there, you, you float with a rud or you hunt as Jana likes to say, prec, scouted bucks. Anyway, but pres scouted bucks that are, that are in a routine, right? That’s that routines get deer killed. And this is a chance to be able to do that. They’re, they’re in velvet right outta the get go opening day in this instance on a CW tag for most places is September 1st. So Awesome. Hunt somebody. Yeah, that’s a rare one. Should we do the next one? Yep. Alright, next one’s a antelope hunt for two hunters. This is a three day private land central New Mexico with TGS trophy Hunts. T Gore down there. It’s valued at $9,000. And it’ll be probably the end of August. Yeah. When those dates come out from the state.
00:15:48:20 –> 00:16:56:18
But this is an awesome hunt. I talked to Ty the other day and he sent pictures of the two guys that won, won this hunt last year and they killed big box. Yeah, they did. I I I think he said the one was 84 or 83 and the other one was right at 80. Yeah. Yeah. The two photos that I used, the, the major photos that I used in the, on this hunt, they’re both from our winners. Yeah. Last year. So what I like about these, if you listen to my last podcast about antelope punting, is you don’t have to go alone on this hunt. Yeah. You got a buddy, you, you’re gonna be there with somebody, which is how antelope are meant to be hunted in groups of people and encourage people to shoot, encourage ’em to get shooting into something. Talk ’em into, I don’t think you can hit that buck. He’s 186 yards away, you know, whatever. But he’s only got one horn. Oh, I don’t know. But that’s, those are the rare ones. Just, it’s, it’s all just, it’s all just you guys. Remember that when you’re on a hunt with Adam, next time you’re not gonna talk me into it. It, but it’s, I’m ready for it. But anyway, that, that’s a great thing. So whether you got a, a spouse or hunting buddy or you got a kid or whoever you want to take, it’s your choice.
00:16:57:07 –> 00:18:30:16
End of August, two tags included everything, food, lodging, everything. So awesome opportunity there. So anyway, that runs through the, I guess 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, is that right? Yep. And then we’ve got, we’ve got a gear package, gear package as well. We usually do this, you know, vary it up a little bit year after year. But we’ve got another package that you can either pick again, as you refer a member, you get, you get a name in for this, or if you buy a gift subscription you, and for somebody you could actually get two names in, put ’em in yourself if you want. But this gear package includes the following, a fierce carbon rage rifle in your choice of caliber, a Hoyt RX eight bow. We appreciate both Fierce and Hoyt being sponsors of ours here at Epic Outdoors. But that’s basically their newest and greatest bow as well as an awesome rifle in your choice of caliber. We’re throwing a loophole, VX six, HD four to 24 by 52. Scope some roski EO range TA 10 by 30 twos a XI spotting scope, which is the HARIA 23 70, 95 millimeter awesome crystal clear glass there. And one of our epic ultra tripod and fluid head combos. So this all adds up to $15,000. And that’s not, that’s not funny math. That’s just what stuff costs if you’re gonna get it. So anyway, that’s a great, great deal. Got bino spotting scope rifle, scope rifle, bow tripod.
00:18:30:19 –> 00:19:44:05
I mean, you’ve got, you got a lot of gear there put to use to upgrade or just to whatever, just to put in a safe and use along with what you already have. So that’s another great $15,000 value gear package. Rounding out the eight, eight prizes and then we actually have what we always do, kind of a, a bonus ticket. We vary this sometimes year after year, whether we give a tag or whether we donate a specific hunt or, or dedicate a specific hunt to it. But this time, you know, we’ve, we’ve talked to Devon about this over the years as well. And rather than pick a specific hunt, sometimes just offering a guy $10,000 put towards an Epic approved outfit or hunter your choice, and then let you talk with Devon or one of us and, and book the hunt. Either, either pay for it or put it, put $10,000 towards some bucket list hunt that you wanna wanna go on. Now this is, this is, if you buy a 30 ticket package for 500 or more, every increment above that, you get a ticket in for this. So there’s no way to buy a specific entry for that. But it’s for each $500 you spend on the 30 entry package, you get your choice of, you know, you get your knife in a headlamp. You also get one ticket into this winner’s choice hunt, which is a $10,000.
00:19:44:15 –> 00:20:53:12
We will write the check for you towards the hunt of your choice. So it’s always fun. Devon’s helped several winners. Money. I was just thinking of the last guy who won this. He wanted a mountain caribou. Yeah. And he killed a giant. Yeah, it’s like the luck continues. There was another guy that won one of these and he killed a big muskox. Big bull musk. Didn’t a musk? No, there was a muskox and then another elk. We did. Yeah, it did really well. It just fine that way. It’s, it’s whatever you want or whatever you’re itching to do or whatever. So put it towards it and go have an awesome hunt. So all the details of, of what we just read through or on our [email protected] or they’re in the magazine, you can read about those, you know, we’ll email you throughout the next couple months as well. But just wanted to let to highlight those, those are out there and, and do it here before this, if you’re looking at doing buying optics or something like that and wanted to add on some of these entries or something before the Black Friday Cyber Monday deal that we’re having, we wanna at least run through ’em here real quick. So there you have, and if you’re not a member, this, this kind of creates the buzz of, you can get in for one of these hunts for free if you join our membership.
00:20:53:16 –> 00:22:16:13
So if you’re a podcast listener and you’ve never joined the membership and this year’s the year, you’ll get an a free ticket into one of these hunts. Yep. Let’s try it. So yeah, like I said, any questions, check us out on the website. You can either buy ticket entries there or you can give us a call 4 3 5 2 6 3 0 7 7 7. So where does that leave us? Well, it, let’s see, I’m gonna give another quick shout out before we get into Colorado. ’cause we’ve already, we’ve talked a lot about Colorado this year. We’ve talked about what I would say the high points are, have been. Yeah. So I, today’s gonna be a little brief discussion about other low points. No, I, I dunno. Just, you know. Yeah, you don’t always kill a deer. I didn’t kill a deer. You didn’t kill a deer. Nope. Jason didn’t kill a deer. Devin didn’t kill a deer. So we already talked about cash and Logan smoking stuff last week. Smoking deer, I should say. Not smoking stuff. Colorado is kind of one of those green states. There’s dispensaries, you know, all over the place. Smoking deer. But anyway, I mentioned it admitted ago in our Epic gear package. But I just wanna do another shout out to Hoyt Archery. We all shoot Hoyt bows love them, whether they be carbon bows, the RX five sevens and eights, you know, whatever. Or the aluminums Alpha X and stuff like that. They’re, they’re awesome.
00:22:17:14 –> 00:23:24:01
Anyway, they’re, they’ve been a great partner of ours here at Epic Outdoors. And just wanna give a shout out to Hoyt Archery. If you’re looking for a bow this next year, you can’t go wrong shooting a Hoyt. If you’re wanna upgrade, keep them in mind. Like I said, we love them. We might be having, having some giveaways in the future with some of their bows. They’ve been great partners with us and allowed us to have some of their bows to do giveaways with. But give a shout out to Hoyt Archery for being a great sponsor of ours here at Epic Outdoors as well. So where does that leave us, John? Let’s talk about, you have feels like a lot more to talk about than me. You ran into a lot, you used a lot of gear or, or saw a lot different emergency type gear Yeah. Being used there. Recovery gear. This, it, it was interesting. It tested. I’m telling you this. Yeah, you you took everything luckily, I, I took everything. Yeah. Like you’re talking, you know, recovery gear for your truck and every, everything you can and, and I used every bit of it for those of you that may remember we’re in Colorado or saw Colorado and saw, you know, the, it was mainly the front range. It was a weird storm.
00:23:24:03 –> 00:24:39:22
Why we talked about it last time, about that weird kind of epicenter down in like New Mexico, spinning up Texas, Oklahoma, wrapping around. It was a kind of a east to west storm that just kept pummeling the front range. They got three or four feet across, you know, I’ll call it central and eastern Colorado. Not the plains as much, but the front range. But, but John, you were up a little bit further north kind of in the, one of those wings. I I was in more western Colorado. We got snotty below windy weather and a little bit of spitting snow. But you, it looked like you were hunting penguins in Antarctica. Yeah, no, it did. That’s what it felt like too. Like, I, I didn’t not know. I mean, it was like a different world. I didn’t, I mean ’cause 90, 95% of our storms in Utah and Colorado, they come from the west, right? Yeah. They come from the west and blow through where they come down from the northwest or come up from the southwest. That’s our weather pattern. That didn’t ha that was bluebird. That was Bluebird weather. Everything coming from the west. This thing got pumped up underneath and just kept wrapping around for like days and yeah, it, well before I got there. So the night before the hunt, I took my wife on this hunt and I forgot to ask you about Yeah. How enjoyable did, was Jen like this?
00:24:40:01 –> 00:25:53:13
Well we rented a cabin, right? Besides she broke her toe in the cabin. Slipping on ice or what? No, there was a stubbed. It, it was a, it was a rustic cabin, let’s say like, you know, log cabin. So the line up, up good, you can, you know, okay. Yeah. Yeah. That a lot of wood fireplace was our heat. Oh yeah. I mean it was, it was rustic. No bathrooms. Yeah. You had an outhouse. What, where there was kind of a, an out bathroom. What does that mean? So there was running water in one place. What? But not in the cabin? Yeah, it was, it was like in a, it was super rustic sink. Like what, what do you mean shower? There was a sh it was like a shower house with a toilet and a shower. Okay. And was it a communal one? Yes. Oh yeah. And then there were a bunch of really rustic cabins. Okay. So, yeah. So did you, but did you have to just put a little thing on the door saying, saying it’s occupied. Okay. Alright. All right. Yeah. Yeah. So, but that’s all that was available anyway, when I yeah. Got this tag, so it was a left whatever, turn back whatever turn back tag. And so that was, that. That’s the bright spot. I didn’t burn any points. What’s the bright spot? Oh, that on this hunt. Okay. But yeah, wife broke her toe. Wife broke her toe.
00:25:53:14 –> 00:26:50:23
Yeah. How many quarters did it take to clean your truck? I saw it in the parking lot when you got home. That’s when you know you better use your, just put your credit card in. I went to the however long you stay there. I went, I went to the, the car wash and they rejected me. They said, you have too much money. Oh yeah, you have to go to, did they really? Yeah. Wow. What Too much money. It doesn’t take much. Which one? The drive through. Oh yeah. Well, yeah. That’s a given. John. Yeah. I don’t even pull up there. I they probably laughed at Yeah. ’cause it was pretty, but then, then you had 10, 10 cars behind you that you had to somehow get outta line. No, they’ve, they’ve got kind of a side one that’s outside and they just let me go unlimited time. Got the, got all the mud off of it, so it was great. Oh yeah, that one. Okay. Yeah. Interesting. So, anyway, but we’re not even there. It’s the night before the hunt and we leave here. Oh, I think we must midday or whatever. Yeah. It was like nine o’clock or something in the morning and we didn’t get there till, you know, it, it was snowing in bad weather. So we didn’t get there till 8 39 at night.
00:26:50:24 –> 00:27:53:13
It was, it was an all day trip, but it was snowing pretty hard when we were coming up on, you know, the area, the cabin was, and I drive by and it, it was, there was a, like a kind of a ditch off the side of the, of the road. And it was far down in and outta the corner of my eye. I see some like lights or something down there. And I, I slowed down and I was like, Jen, I think, I think there was a car off the road down there, and it was a long ways down there. The good Samaritan’s kicking in John. So she’s like, yeah, well we should probably go see. You know. So we turned around, went back and there was, there was a car, two wheel drive, you know, college students buried down in the deep that was buried down in there. And it, it was probably my win is, I, I would say it’s probably 50 feet least probably. Yeah. Yeah. And, and it took every bit, it was all the way out to reach out to the red Yeah. To reach it. And so I go down there, the kid, like, he didn’t have a hat, he didn’t have gloves. He, he was just down there cold, you know.
00:27:54:02 –> 00:29:01:11
And so I like go back up to my truck and I grab an extra pair of gloves and I grab a hat and I’m like, dude, you gotta put these on, you know, so got ’em, got ’em a little bit warm and then pulled my winch out and, and I was like, I think the car’s probably gonna pull my truck off the road. Yeah. Because it was slick, you know, and, and it’s downhill wants your truck down there, but I’ll try. And he’s like, well, I got, I, I did call a tow truck and it’s, it’s coming. So I’m like, well, did you pay a deposit with your credit card? Yeah. I, I’m like, I can try, I can try to get you back up on the road, but I got got it down there. And the stupid car, after you dig under the snow and get down under there, like get a hook, hook on the frame. Oh yeah. Is too small for my winch hook. And I’m like, so I can’t even go through it. Can’t go through it. I wrap something that may or may not Yeah. Hold, but about this time I see flashing lights, you know, and then, okay, so I go up the top, the tow truck slid off the road. What? Whoa. John, you haven’t even started hunting. I didn’t even know these stories. No, no. Yeah. So then I’m like, oh my gosh.
00:29:01:18 –> 00:30:02:19
So he’s, so now you said all, Hey, what’s, what? The road, what’s your hour charge? Yeah. Oh, 75 an hour. Okay. All right. 75 an hour. Get you back on the highway. So, so he’s, I’m like, yeah, my, my winch hook’s too big for, for, you know, his hooks. And so he’s like, well I’ve got a chain, you know, if you could pull me out then, then we can try to chain him up and get him up. So I, I turned around, I pulled the, pulled the tow truck back up on the road and then I was pretty much in a good position, so I just pulled out my winch and then we put a chain on the end. And luckily we had him just, you know, be on the gas a little bit to help it out. Yeah. Pulled him right up. But it was steep. I was nervous. Oh. Scare me. Car scare me. ’cause the bumpers are plastic and Oh yeah, that’s the thing. When you get the hook underneath that steep above chain gets tight and it’s Yeah, tight. The whole bumper can go. You, you wanna sign a Yeah, you wanna sign what? A waiver, damage waiver. If I cause any damage by getting you back on the, at least he was okay. Yeah, he was okay. And it was, it was, it was good.
00:30:02:23 –> 00:31:14:00
That happened to me once and it was, I heard ah, like moaning down in the bushes. I thought somebody was really, really hurt. Oof. What was, I think the guy was, it was a guy and a kid in the car. Yeah. It was just scared, but yeah, scary man. Yeah. Good. So yeah, you were, you got to bed late and walked in, didn’t know where the light was. It was dark gin stubbed her toe and breaks it The first night. It, it was the next day. Yeah. Geez. I didn’t know these stories. I do, the ones I, the ones I know of are pretty good and we haven’t even got to ’em yet. Yeah. And, and we’re far like this, this unit, there’s nothing, there’s like maybe one gas station in the whole unit, like Yeah. Anyway, kind of, kind of crazy. And it wasn’t even close to where I was. I was driving, you know, way far to get gas and stuff anyway. But snowing, blowing. It was, it was nuts The first morning, like, I’m like, okay, start going. And it was chain up all four and it ended up being chained up all four every morning, every night, every afternoon. Like I had to, I can’t remember. Did and off chain. Did you All the time. Did you stick it out for the seven days? Yeah, I came home midway through the last day. Oh, wow. I’m impressed.
00:31:14:15 –> 00:32:27:05
So, because I, from all the picture I was getting through the week, I’m like, yeah, I’m out. I, I wouldn’t have lasted seven. You did good John. Yeah. In in those, what, six or seven days? Whatever it was. I saw 12 deer the whole time. Brutal. Repeat that. How many? It was brutal. How many were bucks? 12. Two and a half. The, the half didn know. I know it was a buck. Like he was so small, so, okay. But buck. Oh, it was, it was brutal. It was brutal. Jeez. So that’s what I meant about, yeah, those conditions, that lack of deer in John still stayed through seven. That’s, yeah. You never know. But I knew it was bad. But you thought, I mean, you pray for that when we go to Colorado for Yeah. And then snow crush the place and then sometimes it really inhibits what you can even do. Yeah. And there’s a limit to it. Yeah. It also concentrated people on the public land area where you could get to. And so it, it was pretty packed in and, and that led to more encounters with people that needed to be jerked back on the road. Right. So the next morning I had to pull somebody else out and I’m like, I I, I don’t know why you’re back here. No chains, you know, he had a Jeep, but it was like a, it wasn’t a liberty, but something like that.
00:32:27:09 –> 00:33:39:09
You know, not, not a oh, a newer Jeep. A Jeep Jeep. It was like a car, you know, Jeep Jeep makes the vehicle. Yeah. But it’s not a Jeep. Yeah. Passenger tires basically on the thing. Yeah. So anyway, but nice kid, nice kid. And a lot of ’em are just kids going to school and, you know, younger kids and drive what they drive to. They’re out driving what they drive. So it was fine, but, but super nice kid. Happy to see me. You know, you saw snow cats, John. Yeah. So then I know, okay, I, I saw guys hunting that passed me. They’re in a snow gap. We’re talking the orange, like Yes. 19. These are sixties tracks. Like geez, that, that the ski resorts all used to drive then they have modern ones now, but that type of thing. Yeah. That type of thing. And people are driving those on roads. Yep. And, and I’m chained up all four going and they just go in around me, you know, I’m like, that’s pretty useful. I’ve never seen anybody driving one of those on a hunt. I will say that I haven’t. Yeah. Might not be a bad investment. Put mark that on KSL or Facebook marketplace. So what, keep an eye out. Should add some alerts now. Yeah. Should we go in on divide it by however many he’s in and just put it in one of the storage units?
00:33:39:19 –> 00:34:48:29
I’m sure there’s guys that swear by him. I don’t know. It’s like the first time he’s able to tell his wife, see, I told you this, I needed it for hunting. Told you I had to use 15 years. Well, they’re not that expensive. There’s one in Spanish for Yeah, look at that. What? They’re built in 1962 though. So that’s, you can get one for the same price as a four-wheeler. How about that? 2012. Right. There’s one right above us on the mountain right there. Duck, duck. Logan’s pulling duck this up there on the big screen That’s right for sale. That thing’s got a plow on. How about that one at Duck Creek in Orange? Yeah, it’s a 1984 for 37 Gs. Geez. Geez. So yeah, it was, I’m out, I’m out. Mean just lots and lots of snow. Isn’t that like the one you saw right there? Probably. Yep. Yeah, that’s about it. Jeez. That one ain’t cheap. They’re holding their value. 35 on there, on that one. What? How about that? 1945. Where yellow? Yeah. Pinedale, you know that thing? Isn’t it a clean one over the weasel snow cap? That thing’s been used in Pinedale. They use that 10 months of the year in Pinedale. Tell me I’m wrong. High schoolers take that to school. They drive that to the prom in the end of May in Pinedale. So anyway.
00:34:48:29 –> 00:36:02:28
Well, so yeah, then I, every day I was chained up all fours and I said, and then one day near the last, it was second to last day, I thought, I bet I can get away with just, you know, snow’s melting a little bit. I can get away with like just chaining up the back, you know. So chained up the back and I got going up the road, I was going pretty high and I got off the main trail, right. And then I, I was kind of going and I thought I should get back on the main, the main road. So I see the main road and I go over and try to get in it. It looked like just, it was level, everything else. Foot, foot or 18 inches, inches. I went down into the main road. It was five feet below. Like, it, it turned, it turned, turned into like a river drift. Filled it in. Yeah. Yeah. And a drift filled it in. I could not tell. And I was five hours digging out of it. And like, I dug my tires were still not hitting dirt. And, and then I had to like dig it all the way around it. Yeah. And put the chains on. That should be the keynote picture of this podcast right there. Yeah. I mean, it, it was, it was crazy. So, and that’s after you’ve done some severe work, some severe digging. Yeah.
00:36:03:02 –> 00:37:04:03
The pictures don’t do it any justice. I was five hours digging out of there. You know how you, you dig like for a snow cave and you like, you push down and then you push on the side. So you like take a square carved little blocks. They, it ca the snow was coming out way the snow came out in blocks for five hours. That’s good. It was snow ca snow is all I’m gonna say. But that’s not good. ’cause it’s, that’s a, that got a lot of moisture in it. It’s been frozen solid pretty much. Yeah, it was. So, but as soon as I got the truck dug out, it was still high centered on snow. But I was able to get the chains around the front tires and then luckily I, I became a religious man that morning. I was just gonna say this, John. And, and there were many, you said you kind of went off on this, deviate on this little roades traveled when you knew the good rod is here. Sounds like a good church talk in the matrix is what I thought. Yeah, well yeah, there were, there were a lot of, a lot of praying going on and, and I luckily told Was your wife right out? Was she back at the cabin? Yeah, she’s back at the cabin. So I, I had a laugh at John.
00:37:04:07 –> 00:38:12:21
I, I was trying to be a good friend and employee and I texted him. I didn’t know, but I texted him as he was digging out. Said, how’s it going? I said, how goes the hunt, John? He just texts back the worst ever and sends me this picture that I got pulled up on the screen. Yeah. It was nuts. So was that the last morning? No, that was the second to last morning. I was gonna say after that right there, it’s probably when I have four tires roll back to Utah. The whole morning was spent digging. So I I was so glad I still had a shovel in there, you know. Well, but at least you got at least the gear that you brought that you have, you got the winch on the power wagon. You’ve got four chains. I mean, they’re not, they’re not rusting away. No. They got used finally. Yeah. I, I need, I need a way like where, where I got stuck, it was nothing I could have winched to. Oh yeah. You know, it was just flat. Nothing. I need have to drive a t post and ground or deep drive something. I gotta deep and a frozen tundra. Take something Lambo. Yeah. And, and then be able to winch backwards or something too. But anyway, well, stuff to add to my arsenal. But no, it was, it was nuts.
00:38:12:24 –> 00:39:17:19
And I think, I mean the two bucks that I saw looked like they were running. So my guess is it was, but but the wind was blowing. The snow was blowing your eyes. I already couldn’t Might tell the drifts, the drifts were so freaking high. Yeah. And this where I got stuck for five hours the day before I was able to drive. I was chained up all four. But just like, like I wind dilated it in the morning and the wind would blow and you couldn’t tell that I’d driven in. Oh yeah. And, and sometimes there were higher, you know, higher drifts than when I’d driven in. It was nice. Why known was that country over at Monticello out in the flats. How many coyotes I’ve hunted out there grown up and I’ve, I’ve been just hauling, trying to break drifts. And it’s kinda like when you’re on water, but when you’re on white and everything’s white, you don’t have a depth perception of no what’s big and then all of a sudden you just come to and you’re like, I am so dead. ’cause you’re going 45 miles an hour. Yeah. And that just stops you and you got back in the handyman jack days and you’re trying to rip off sage brush and your only options to go back.
00:39:17:21 –> 00:40:35:07
And I’ve had some terrible experiences there and like I said, getting stuck without chains and then try to put ’em on and you’re already deep anyway. But, well I will say a little bit of free advertising for a Elon Musk. Whoa. But I got the starlink Mini and the thing is legit really I can get service anywhere. Like, and, and I sat it on the top of my truck. So like I’m stuck. No cell service. What’s his title now? Like Secretary of Government downsizing department. Government efficiency. Yeah, government efficiency. That, that sounds more official than Doge government waste. Doge, that’s what it was. I was trying to think of that. Department of government efficiency Doge part of the Avengers group. Him and what’s that other vi swami. Yeah. Him. So that, that was awesome. I was able to just put it up, tell my wife, Hey, I got stuck. I’m gonna be late. Feel bad for me. I’m gonna be hungry when I come back to the cabin. Yeah. When I see Jen at the Christmas party this year, I can’t wait to say, Hey, what did you say when you broke your toe in French? I want to hear it. I guarantee she said, excuse my French, that’s the worst I’ve done that. Yeah. Do you remember that story from like 2018? Oh, chasing my kid around the house. Oh, that’s right.
00:40:35:11 –> 00:41:44:15
Shattered my big toe on the door jam and 60 days before a doll sheep hunt. Oh, just shattered in like 10 pieces. Yeah. Her, I mean her whole foot was blue. I’ve got, I’ve got pictures, but yeah. Well anyway, sorry John. Unsuccessful. But I mean it was still fun. Like I learned a lot. You learn man, just, it’s it’ss hard to keep going when you’re not seeing any deer. Yeah, that is John. I mean, tons and tons of elk and tons and tons of everything else. Antelope, you saw antelope by the hundreds of 300. Yeah. Yeah. It was just nuts, you know, whatever I don’t have have to tag for they’re there when it snows like that and gets cold, they herd up like crazy. Start moving. Yep. But, well, so I I I was in a different place. I had nothing like that in terms of conditions, you know, where I, where I was hunting Western Colorado, they actually, I think it had a pretty decent second season hunt. Like we talked about last podcast where they had some of those storms hit during the second season, triggered a little bit of movement and, and, and that first snow of the year, whenever it is, it just kind of, it changes deer behavior a little bit.
00:41:44:15 –> 00:42:54:27
They pop, they stick out like sore thumbs when everything’s flocked white like Logan was talked about it, it helps and you know, but that third season it was cold, it was windy, it spit snow a little bit, but it really didn’t have any new weather and it just felt like a, the deer where I was hunting were scattered. Some were down low, some in the middle and some were way up high. They were, they were just a little bit everywhere and kind of stalled out I guess. So unit I’d hunted before I saw a couple of really good deer that honestly probably need one more year. I mean that’s, that’s all I think they needed. I would’ve felt bad shooting either one of them, but I saw their books. But those are the two that I, that initially gave me a little bit of a, oh geez. Yeah, my, and then I just started looking at ’em and no, they’re probably maximum 4-year-old deer that, you know, nice, nice bucks. One had a cheater out both sides, which usually can, you know, get and it did it, it got me that was perfectly symmetrical buck with a cheater out each side. Right. But he just wasn’t, it wasn’t quite there. It wasn’t real wide deep, deep times. It’s not real heavy though. So anyway. Might be for another trip I guess. But I, I ate my tag hunted all the way through the last day.
00:42:54:27 –> 00:43:57:15
Same as you John and didn’t, didn’t see a deer I wanted to kill, but hey, I’ve been there, been to Colorado before and you kill a buck in a day or two and it can happen pretty, pretty quick. Takes one to end it and just didn’t this year. It’s as simple as that. So, but had a good time and we’ll probably try to find our way back to Colorado somewhere next year. It seems like we try to do that or most of us try to do it, play the game. So we gotta try to play to be there, whether it be draw, turn back, land on or whatever. So I’ve had enough time lapse since that that I’m slightly eager looking forward to going back. But a week ago, a week ago you were, you were done. And this week, well every, everything’s an opportunity. It just amazing what a one week in your own bed will do to you. I mean, I’ve slept in my bed. This is true this year. This is true. And I’m not feeling picked on. Don’t, don’t, I’m not, I don’t need a pity party. But this year between the arctic red hunt and then all my other hunts, I mean it’s been, I don’t even know, don’t even remember what my pill in bed felt like.
00:43:57:29 –> 00:45:05:03
It’s been a one of those years stuff has just taken to the max every hunt, whether it be my hunt family hunts, you know, whatever. And so, yeah, it’s just, it’s, but it’s amazing once you have some consistency, you know, sitting in your lazy boy watching a little bit of football in between good night’s, sleeps, you’re starting to think about next year and I, and I’m there. Yeah, you might, I’m getting, I’m starting to get weak again. Yep. I could get talked into something. In fact this morning Devin was talking to me into white to hunt in Kansas and this year’s rifle hunt’s not even occurred yet in Kansas. And he’s, he’s getting me going on it. Just telling you facts. I, that’s what I know. Well yeah, we’re hearing about bucks that, you know, get by on the Ry hunt. How many are sitting ready and Yeah, if you hunt archery white tail in the Midwest this year, from what I’m hearing, it was kind of rough, kind of tough. So Devin, if, if this time of year, what’s, what’s the best thing you can book at this time of year or look at hunt wise? Oh, as far as for long term, like Nick 2025. Yeah, let, let’s I Wyoming 2020 Wyoming, Wyoming always kicks off this year and Arizona. ’cause it’s the first application period in January.
00:45:05:10 –> 00:46:14:07
But so this time of year Yeah, that’s, you wanna be looking at, I mean just about everything. I mean it’s kind of time like, like speaking to Kansas, don’t wait anymore. Yeah. Talking to a guy this morning that yeah, he’s about booked up already. So in 2025. Yeah. Just due to the predictable nature. If you have one point you’re gonna draw everywhere in Kansas. So it’s not like, it’s not like in Arizona unless you have max points, you know, you’re not, you, you get lucky on the other half of the nonresident quarter as far as guaranteed tags. Yeah. Stuff like Kansas that you can draw easy. Even antelope punts book really early now this, this time of year like New Mexico stuff, elk, Wyoming tags, guaranteed tag tags, Wyoming elk even, you know like with people that know they have points, especially the general that split into regions last year. Definitely like it, it takes three to four plus points and you know, you’re going out hunting but, but guys will book up a year sometimes more in advance on that. Yeah, it’s, it’s a lot of everything honestly. It’s just, just that time. So if you’re looking or thinking about something, call us ’cause yeah, the, the good stuff goes fast. Well yeah, and we’re already, I mean of course there’s, there’s natural stuff like Spring Mountain Lions, a spring bear that are kind of all the time.
00:46:14:09 –> 00:47:21:27
But I mean that’s, you can call ’em book where those, if you didn’t get enough hunting in this this fall or Yeah, like I said, looking it next year you got Spring Brown Bear had a couple cancellations come in on those Devin. Yeah, for down Southeast Alaska. Good price. Some of that, some Mexico stuff’s opening up. Yes. Old Mexico coming right up. Yep. Both for December and January. If you’ve got opening time for Mule Deer down there anyway. Just, yeah, I mean you can there pretty much nothing you’d shut the door on. Like I said, there’s certain things like if you want to hunt doll sheep in 2025 or in some cases even a stone or something like that or or brown bear or a big mooses tough there’s not left for those because the people book ’em in advance and for years in advance. But for other stuff, yeah, don’t wait. It’s, the biggest thing is, is don’t wait because a lot of people, you know, they’ll put in, you know, for a certain hunt that like, like generals in Wyoming or stuff that you’re fairly, fairly close to Drawn and then not get, and then you wait till the mid, mid May before you find out you draw and then you really do.
00:47:22:08 –> 00:48:33:03
And by then it’s kinda like Colorado deering out guys, guys book up before the deadline even comes in the draw for some of those states that have predictable max point tags or preference point draws like Colorado. So get with Devin or one of us here to help start using them. That’s what we’re here, it’s about to start over again. It’s hard to believe 20, 20 fours slowly coming in. It’s gonna be December next week. So crazy, crazy, crazy. So. Alright, well let’s give a shout out to phone scope. We got, they’ve got their new Carbon Pro series mag Safe ready. The thing I love about this, this case is I, I can keep it on my phone, it’ll charge my phone. You know, I’ve used several others that you can’t charge your phone through it. And I always use, you know, the ones that you just snap on the back and it’s magnetic and so I end up, you know, having to take cases on and off and whatnot. This one you don’t have to take on and off. Your flashlight works. It’s not covered. So it’s pretty awesome and easy way to just get the footage, snap it on and anyway, just easy setup.
00:48:33:10 –> 00:49:35:29
And along with that, if you’ve been looking into any of the new phone scope, carbon Pro series cases or any of the accessories and you’re looking to buy it soon on for Black Friday through Cyber Monday, they’re gonna be having a 15% off plus free gifts the more you spend discount on their website. So if you go online and want some phone scope accessories, you get 15% off. And the more stuff you buy, the more stuff they throw in your cart. It sounds like they also have a walk-in discount in their store, beaver. So if you walk in and want to get some good deals on phone scope, accessories and products, you might get an even better deal in the store. So if you’re near Beaver, stop by Utah. If you’re in the neighborhood. Beaver County, luckily Josh is not here. I was just gonna say I, beaver County, Josh will swing on there on his way home. He might, but not to buy anything just to judge. No, he’s somebody, he get run outta town. Somebody see Josh on Beaver Main Street. He’s in some hot water. I get asked about him a lot when I’m around him. Do they still have rack meetings in Beaver? They used to. And that that, no, I can’t see Josh showing up to one of them. Get shanked.
00:49:36:03 –> 00:50:41:23
I ain’t riding with him if he, if we go there, but when did you say that goes through Cyber Monday as well. That scope? Black Friday through Cyber Monday. Awesome. Fullscope Black Friday deal. Thanks for throwing that in Logan. Yeah, we said that last week about Trek as well. They have a Black Friday sale going on 20 50% off on their stuff too. So check them out online probably. And take advantage. Those aren’t like blowouts or I mean discontinued models, they’re just, that’s just a sale, so check ’em out. So anyway, anything else guys? Cash? You’ve been kind of quiet, but you were talkative last time you had, you talked about three dead bucks last time, so Yeah, just didn’t want to kill the mic without you having the chance to say today I’ve, I’ve said enough to run plenty of people off. So have you. I’m sure. I’m sure. I don’t know about that. You’re pretty, you’re pretty low key. Mellow. Just straight. I wish I’d have known you guys did when I was driving the other night and called you. I could have used you. You could have used this. Yeah, we should have called comments. We, we, we had Logan and Cash. Cash talked about three dead bucks. Logan talked about his saga for just a path of death and destruction of you guys. Huh? We just left the trail.
00:50:42:01 –> 00:51:48:05
It was, I mean that’s why John and I today were just, yeah, kind of anticlimactic, but hey, just want everybody that says you guys are so lucky I was killed Big deer. No, we don’t. We don’t. If you wanna see my tags, I got stacks of them that aren’t punched stacks just from this year. So it doesn’t happen every time. Not when you’re hunting for something good. So, and when you were driving Devin, you were going to serve some death and destruction, right? Yeah. What happened? I was driving home, let’s talk, helping on something. I don’t know if my eyes got real dry or something, but I had a rough go on the way home. Was it dark 30? Yeah. Yeah. The whole way going through the whole entire state of Nevada down 93. Just, you know, you gotta be alert. You do. I saw, saw there’s horses saw on my way up before I hit Well yeah, almost a wind over. I went through a wind over this time. Yeah. And I bet I saw 30 horses within 20 yards of nine three. There’s no fence on that. No, it’s open range. Ultimate route. And so when I’m coming home, I got through there in the light and then right about the junction that got dark. You don’t have a light bar on that truck, do you? No. I need to invest in that. It’s a game changer. Changer. Can’t across the desert. Can’t.
00:51:48:05 –> 00:52:54:01
By the time I hit panka I’d have been pulled over. You’d have thought I was, I don’t know. My eyes were, I was just tired man. So what do you mean packing elk meat all day. So what do you mean? If I’d been pulled over anything, I just didn’t look at your eyes and say, oh hey, step out, this guy’s got problems. Show me, show me your hands and step out where I can see you. Maybe, I don’t know, I just was tired. You were red-eyed. It was a quick trip. Smashed a bull day two and came home. Great bull. Yeah. Guy friend with, I was, I was kind of, I wouldn’t say critical, but I was, I was checking, I I was questioning you going up there, you know, being you, you’re free and clear. Your season was over and then you had, then you signed up for one more hurrah. In in I told you I northeastern Nevada and he told me, I’ll see you Monday. And I’m like, okay, pray. So, and he did. Devin, he’s good. What he did. Yeah, it was killed a great bull. Saw a lot of bulls, a lot of young bulls and just 55 inch Beamer and wide thing seven by mid forties, 45 wide and 74 and 55 inch beams. That’s pretty awesome. Good. Awesome. Bull Not broke. Not broke. Which is rare, but yeah, for, yeah, it was fun. A late, a late late hunt.
00:52:54:01 –> 00:53:55:27
Not, I almost did the dumbest thing. I was, I had seen some bulls about a mile and a half away and I could see little ones and I could see three or four about 150 yards away. Like those bigger bulls will distance themselves from those raggs that are just kinda laying in the open. And I could see body parts, just bits and pieces and a trees. Yeah. Beded. And so I’m, I was headed that way and I, I don’t know, I’ve hunted this country a lot, but it’s just like, you know those gut feelings. I was like, I hit this saddle and I look at this cliff line that runs right next to the road and I’m like, I know there’s not a road over there. Like I just got a bunk jump up here. Peek over. Yeah. Into a canyon or something. I pop up over the top wrap around the one and only big giant cedar tree just wide out in the wide open. I’m standing there glassing for maybe 10 minutes and I started hitting live trees really close to me and just yellow school bus, freaking yellow school bus. Like I don’t how he didn’t his how close a branch is covering his right eye, like killing range 400 wide open right rifle range. Oh yeah, yeah. The boy you killed de was he alone or did he have some other He had three buddies.
00:53:56:11 –> 00:55:11:24
I can only see two of two of them, but I don’t, I don’t know how he did see me. It was so lucky. Yeah. Backed away. We walked in with the rifle and came over. Ha. That’s awesome. Yeah, it was fun. So you got home Sunday night? Sunday night or Saturday. Or Saturday, yeah. Should have been you left Thursday night. We hunted two days. Wow. Packed. Yeah. Alright, well you heard it here on the Epic Outdoors podcast. Devin gets, gets stuff done. 48 hour elk hunts is what he’s known for Nevada. Oh. They don’t all go that way. It always feels like you’re hunting a very specific percentage of bulls of a certain age and of those kind of bulls, what percentage of them are broke to pieces, right? Yeah. A lot. Exactly. That’s what I was worried about is I could see his left side and it’s fully intact. Not a, not a chip, nothing. The other side, maybe the third a little bit. And I could see the tip of the beam finally on his right. He’s don’t he? He’s not a unicorn bull. Yeah. Not got up his third or something. He was fully intact and he even had a six point, so it was perfect. Yeah, let him get up. Yeah. Yeah. Feed around, stretch, sat in a cactus. Cramped. I mean just, just stuff. Awesome. Well that’s great. Well we’re winding down here pretty much. Yeah. Thanksgiving time. Yep.
00:55:12:01 –> 00:56:36:28
