In this episode the crew takes a look at our home state, which has been getting a lot of buzz lately, due to application and license fee changes. We take a look at what nonresidents can really be expecting to pay if they want to hunt in Utah. We also take a look at other states with application deadlines in April and give our advice on those.

00:00:18:26 –> 00:00:33:00
Hey everybody. Jason Carter. Adam Bronson. Of course. We got Josh Pollock. How you doing Josh? Really good. Really, really good. Of course. Got some new announcements. Excited to get in. Dive into that. Logan, how you doing? I’m doing good. Good. How’s
00:00:33:01 –> 00:00:33:27
Still got a splint?
00:00:34:02 –> 00:00:35:02
I’m still broken. Still
00:00:35:04 –> 00:00:39:26
Still broken. Still dating the same girl. No, no. She moved on. She needed a hatchet. Thrower
00:00:40:00 –> 00:00:41:12
Needed somebody with all 10 fingers.
00:00:41:26 –> 00:00:46:10
She needed a Viking to protect her. And you were not it. That wasn’t
00:00:46:10 –> 00:01:05:26
It. I’m just gonna say that that prompted a question card. That might be a way for, for ladies and women to go fill out their quote man. To go to one of them raid rooms and if they don’t perform up to whatever standard they think Yeah. A freaking protector. A provider. A provider, you know, man in the 20 gladiator should be like, they’re out. Hit
00:01:05:26 –> 00:01:06:16
The hit the way target.
00:01:06:19 –> 00:01:14:18
If you’re a lady in our day and age and you’re, you know, wanting a protector or something, what are you gonna do, bro? Something like, how would you pick a man? Take care of you.
00:01:14:28 –> 00:01:20:03
Okay, let’s, let’s keep it real. How do you, what do you think a lot of these women are picking it based off?
00:01:20:09 –> 00:01:20:27
Oh, they’re just
00:01:21:00 –> 00:01:21:18
Bank account.
00:01:23:11 –> 00:01:23:26
Okay. Yeah.
00:01:23:26 –> 00:01:27:05
That’s what I, I’m picking based off bank account. I don’t know what they’re picking off of.
00:01:27:23 –> 00:01:28:02
Well,
00:01:28:14 –> 00:01:28:29
Don’t know what,
00:01:28:29 –> 00:01:29:26
What they’re doing. I think.
00:01:30:04 –> 00:01:30:11
I think
00:01:30:11 –> 00:01:34:02
Evolutionarily, luckily they don’t think straight when they’re that young. Yeah.
00:01:34:09 –> 00:01:45:04
Well, and evolutionarily we’re animals. Just like animals we talk about all the time. The biggest, strongest, baddest, meanest. That was evolutionary. The Yeah, you wanted that for your,
00:01:45:11 –> 00:01:45:22
You did
00:01:46:12 –> 00:01:51:10
Provider your lineage. Yeah. As a human being. You did. I don’t know how much they picking
00:01:51:10 –> 00:01:51:26
Up now. Scares
00:01:51:28 –> 00:01:52:00
Em.
00:01:56:01 –> 00:01:56:17
He’s sc
00:01:57:04 –> 00:01:58:15
He’s a little too much. Yeah,
00:01:58:17 –> 00:02:08:02
He is a little too much for me. I don’t know. He’d probably be abusive and abuse my kids. You never know. But anyway. Well, she moved on. You moved on, right? Yeah. Right
00:02:08:02 –> 00:02:08:28
Down the line. Yeah.
00:02:09:05 –> 00:02:09:14
Good.
00:02:09:24 –> 00:02:10:23
So you have
00:02:10:23 –> 00:02:11:29
Nothing to prove, Logan? No.
00:02:11:29 –> 00:02:14:02
There’s so many fish in the city. Logan. Yeah.
00:02:14:02 –> 00:02:15:21
Every once in a while your line breaks. You’ll
00:02:15:21 –> 00:02:32:03
Be alright. Some of ’em are rockfish. I mean just carp and stuff like that. That’s right. Alright, well we’re moving way past that. Anyway, wanna thank Fierce for sponsoring this podcast. They’re sponsoring everything we’re doing here at Epic Outdoors. Got a great relationship with them. Actually. Gonna have a podcast with them. Yeah.
00:02:32:04 –> 00:02:32:29
Talk about soon.
00:02:33:02 –> 00:02:34:08
A lot of new stuff coming up
00:02:34:19 –> 00:02:35:22
Next week or two probably.
00:02:35:29 –> 00:03:35:29
Yep. I hope so. So anyway, we had Devin, he’s been outta the office for a minute. Of course we’re gonna get into that. All his personal life details once he gets back in, figure out where the heck he’s been. But anyway, appreciate fierce all they got going. Of course, they’ve got a long range shooting school that they came out with. All inclusive, three nights at the Mogul Ranch. Day one is classroom and range. Day two range in competition. 1995 per person. You’re gonna learn a ton long range shooting school here in Utah. Give ’em a holler at 4 3 5 4 6 2 0 0 4 0 4 3 5 4 6 2 0 0 4 0 www.fiercearms.com. Fierce arms.com. And go from there. So today, Bronson, we’ve got a lot to talk about. Josh, talk about some of the states and things that’s happening. There’s a lot going on in April. It’s like, it feels like our busiest month. I don’t know if it is, but between March, April and May, it’s, it’s no joke. Yeah. It’s
00:03:36:04 –> 00:03:43:11
Nice to get April one bias with Montana, Colorado, but, but I mean there’s just as many of em now that opened up and, and even more, you know, geez,
00:03:43:11 –> 00:03:46:12
How about the states that are like, Hey, don’t forget us. And it’s like four weeks
00:03:46:12 –> 00:03:50:10
Away it opens up and a week later they’re like, yay, we haven’t, you haven’t bought your license yet. What
00:03:50:10 –> 00:03:51:01
If, what if
00:03:51:14 –> 00:03:52:18
Back off, alright, I’ve got
00:03:52:18 –> 00:03:53:12
Back off. I got
00:03:53:12 –> 00:03:55:17
Four weeks. Yeah. Just chill out. I like to
00:03:55:17 –> 00:04:01:22
Be on top of file. What if there’s some sort of secret code though in those emails? Like if you apply today, your application means more. Oh
00:04:01:25 –> 00:04:02:22
Geez. It would be,
00:04:03:00 –> 00:04:04:11
Hey, just saying they,
00:04:04:12 –> 00:04:14:22
That’s a $500 idea trigger. They should pay you for that idea. Yeah. I, you know what, if you got an extra name in the hat for being in with, for applying within the first week within
00:04:14:28 –> 00:04:19:29
A trigger. Didn’t, didn’t Mexico do that for a year or two? Do some like early bird incentives.
00:04:20:18 –> 00:04:20:28
I think a
00:04:21:03 –> 00:04:21:16
Years ago.
00:04:21:16 –> 00:04:27:17
Well think they actually paid people off, right? Like well it was money, cash prizes. That’s what I mean. But then, well, wasn’t Arizona’s coming out with these cash or
00:04:28:06 –> 00:04:28:22
Birds and all that
00:04:28:28 –> 00:04:32:27
On the, that was on the, on the conservation first USA raffles and stuff.
00:04:32:27 –> 00:04:35:00
They did some of those dailies and the old version,
00:04:35:18 –> 00:04:39:00
Whatever they were called and they got you to fly. I remember you were like, I’m in for the art.
00:04:39:05 –> 00:04:46:23
Well, what did it do? It taught you to wait till the end. ’cause they throw a thousand bucks a day or whatever. Dailies. Mine just wait. Kinda like
00:04:46:23 –> 00:04:55:01
Some of our conservation organizations, when you actually go and at the very end, he can buy lots of extra tickets for a certain amount of dollars. Yeah. You know what I mean? Kind of double
00:04:55:01 –> 00:05:05:01
Down. Just say I just watched a documentary on, oh, that forest fend guy that buried $3 million worth of gold out in Wyoming somewhere and did this treasure hunt. It took feasible like 10 years to find it.
00:05:05:15 –> 00:05:05:29
And they found
00:05:05:29 –> 00:05:10:05
It. And he always had these little clues, every little interview and stuff he did. Oh yeah. Found it and
00:05:10:20 –> 00:05:15:11
Send me a link to that. Was it true? Was it real? Oh yeah. Was there millions of dollars in there? Oh yeah, there was.
00:05:15:11 –> 00:05:27:04
And then, then a guy that was looking for it. I don’t wanna, I’m not gonna spoil it. I’ll send it to you. It was actually pretty dang good. Let’s just say there’s another one out there still. Yeah. What? Yeah, so I’m saying like maybe there’s some clues with this, with these, you know, who’d
00:05:27:04 –> 00:05:28:22
Be good at Thatt Wyatt?
00:05:29:10 –> 00:05:34:07
I’m think I’m, I’m thinking I’m gonna send it to Devon and he, maybe that’s where he’s at now. I dunno.
00:05:35:08 –> 00:05:38:11
He might be, I have a feeling he ain’t leaving the house. Right.
00:05:38:25 –> 00:05:39:01
Actually
00:05:39:18 –> 00:05:42:09
Maybe the bunker, whatever. The bunker out on the strip.
00:05:42:09 –> 00:05:43:13
Bigger dealings. Yeah.
00:05:43:16 –> 00:05:49:04
So maybe that’s what this is. They send out those emails and the first five people to apply, get random tags. I don’t know. Just saying, come
00:05:49:04 –> 00:05:50:22
On guys, let’s, let’s keep it real.
00:05:50:27 –> 00:05:51:00
I
00:05:51:00 –> 00:05:53:00
Like this. Apply in the first week idea. Well,
00:05:53:14 –> 00:06:04:15
That’s another why we pitch. That’s another WT principle you’re on, on top. Either your last one and you go on top or the first one stays on top. Depending on if they flip it like this when they start drawing. But I
00:06:04:27 –> 00:06:12:09
Sometimes why it applies early. Like, like the copper state. Okay. You guys, do you guys know what the copper state is? Guess where the copper state? No.
00:06:12:23 –> 00:06:19:10
I thought it was always the Grand Canyon State my whole life I thought or whatever, but apparently they coined this new,
00:06:19:16 –> 00:06:24:27
I thought it was quartzite. I don’t know. I just, anyway. Yeah, they coined at the copper State, right?
00:06:25:01 –> 00:06:25:22
Well, yeah.
00:06:26:12 –> 00:06:33:19
So did you get your application in for the Copper State draw Bronson? Sure. Would you, would you apply for it? Just
00:06:33:24 –> 00:06:35:19
There were six. I just gave
00:06:35:19 –> 00:06:36:21
Them, did ’em all give
00:06:36:23 –> 00:06:38:07
’em $90 and say do good things with
00:06:38:07 –> 00:06:43:22
It. Doesn’t count. Doesn’t count against your bag. Limit your points. Nothing. Might as well, right? Yeah. Co deer in August. Nothing
00:06:43:22 –> 00:06:47:12
Sounds more fun. I didn’t have a legitimate question on that ’cause I had an out tag show up in the mouth two days ago.
00:06:47:12 –> 00:06:48:07
And I mean, the good thing is,
00:06:48:08 –> 00:06:50:00
Whoa. Yeah, that’s
00:06:50:00 –> 00:06:50:22
Right. Those are
00:06:50:29 –> 00:06:57:28
Probably showing up. They did show up. Got it. I didn’t see you put that on the gram. You know, it didn’t happen if you didn’t put it on the gram. Yeah. Some people like
00:06:57:29 –> 00:06:59:01
Parts of their life in
00:06:59:01 –> 00:07:02:17
Private. I saw some people throw it up on the gram. Did they?
00:07:02:18 –> 00:07:07:00
Yeah. Okay. Probably can get personal information off of there and log into their account. Now
00:07:07:09 –> 00:07:08:19
I’m, I threw it on the gram
00:07:09:23 –> 00:07:15:27
Guy. I think with these copper states though, like it’s legitimate. We’ve known a lot of guys
00:07:15:27 –> 00:07:17:01
That have drawn those, so,
00:07:17:22 –> 00:07:25:07
And we offered them like $14,000 in gifts and prizes. Yeah. Come on. To be able to, to be able to, and never had one come outta the woodwork.
00:07:25:22 –> 00:07:36:17
I think we should give ’em the direction to where that gold’s buried and just say, Hey, we’ll give you those free of charge. We’ll do all the research and tell you where it is. If you just call us with a dag and we still won’t hear from anybody. We, we’ve said it last year,
00:07:36:27 –> 00:07:38:07
Why give ’em anything the first
00:07:38:14 –> 00:07:39:05
Year or two? We knew
00:07:39:05 –> 00:07:41:24
A couple people. We actually don’t want to give ’em anything. I’m, I’m
00:07:41:24 –> 00:07:43:15
Ticked. Yeah, we’re done. Done with the game.
00:07:43:28 –> 00:08:00:07
No more games. Yeah, but seriously, if you do, if you do draw this copper state, let us know. Call Jason. It’d be interesting. I would love to know. I might even shadow you in into woods. See what kind of animal we can drum up. I don’t know. It’ll be kinda interesting. John, welcome. Hey. Hey. Little late.
00:08:00:09 –> 00:08:01:18
How’s it going, John? Good.
00:08:01:19 –> 00:08:04:17
I come doing shadow you in the woods. Ooh, a little scared.
00:08:05:01 –> 00:08:06:12
Oh, we’re just talking about, what
00:08:06:12 –> 00:08:15:24
Were you, who were you shadowing? Downtown. What do you got? Projects. I was just picking up my truck. Yep. Oh. Best truck you ever bought. Best truck I ever bought. What’d they do to it? Oh,
00:08:16:11 –> 00:08:16:19
Kate
00:08:16:22 –> 00:08:31:24
Had borrowed it for her farm work. Number one rule, buy a vehicle that all kids can have at will and never lend them your fve, right? Yep. All right. We’re, we’re, we’re gonna remedy that soon. She’s looking
00:08:31:24 –> 00:08:32:07
For a truck.
00:08:32:12 –> 00:08:39:16
So Nice. Yeah. Anybody’s got a truck out there? Three quarter ton gas or Oh, 2000 to 2000 Thought. Why thought what four Chevy
00:08:39:16 –> 00:08:46:01
Thought why I had one. But then, then some other things happened. He’s not selling his yet. Tudy, he’s gonna keep it for a while.
00:08:46:23 –> 00:08:59:03
Yeah, he, he had some other purchases that weren’t expected, so that caused maybe that called impulse caused him to reconsider all Bronson. Let’s dive into what we’re, what we’re really gonna dive into.
00:08:59:13 –> 00:09:06:07
Well, probably just, he just probably applied. What he probably really did is applied in New Mexico and had, you know, six, eight G’s on his credit card. You
00:09:06:07 –> 00:09:11:23
Know? Yeah, yeah. If you do it just right, you got, basically it’s a cycle and a half off your card or cycle and a week, you know, or whatever.
00:09:12:07 –> 00:09:19:28
This time of year they’re kind of adding up, I don’t know if he ended up pulling the trigger on Montana, deer, elk. There’s another 1200 or 14, depending on what he did.
00:09:20:03 –> 00:09:21:28
He’s pretty contemplative. Oh
00:09:21:28 –> 00:09:24:09
Yeah. That’s why, that’s
00:09:24:09 –> 00:09:24:18
A word for it.
00:09:24:22 –> 00:09:33:24
He sat and waited for me to do my New Mexico application, looking over my shoulder all day and then just to make sure he was on top of the pile of mine. Yes.
00:09:34:15 –> 00:09:38:18
And then he referenced your application later and we’re like, he does not miss
00:09:39:04 –> 00:09:45:15
Anything. It’s like he’s waiting to see, like in Nuno, if you put a draw four down, that’s when he’s gonna put his down. Yes. Right on top of him. And the next dude takes eight j
00:09:46:13 –> 00:09:46:22
Skip
00:09:47:23 –> 00:09:50:28
Like, he’s, he’s, he’s the, he’s gonna trump you. That’s
00:09:50:28 –> 00:09:51:11
What he gonna
00:09:51:11 –> 00:09:59:21
Do. Oh. Well I guess it’s April. So let’s talk about what’s due in April. Carter probably the biggest one that’s kind of on front, but right now is our illustrious state of
00:09:59:23 –> 00:10:05:01
Utah. Yeah. Since Colorado came and went, thankfully. Yeah. I like Colorado though. We do. I
00:10:05:01 –> 00:10:07:01
Mean, just, it’s also great when it’s over. It
00:10:07:01 –> 00:10:08:27
Is. It is. But it’s kind of fun.
00:10:09:13 –> 00:10:19:25
And it was the first this year, I think we’ve already looked. Next year isn’t like the seventh. Just ’cause the way it’s the first Tuesday usually. So this, you caught up on us a little bit. It was the first is as early as it gets.
00:10:20:08 –> 00:10:28:17
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Week. I’m looking forward to day in a week. It’s kinda like daylight savings time. I, I’m next. Make sure I see a week
00:10:28:24 –> 00:10:30:13
Is way more significant than an hour.
00:10:30:19 –> 00:10:37:18
Yeah. Way more. But anyway, yeah, Montana Deer and Elk came and went. Glad that came and went too. That was stressful.
00:10:37:20 –> 00:10:41:29
Lots of explaining that convoluted draw system for people that only want big bulls with the bow. How
00:10:41:29 –> 00:10:55:07
About the guys that got the upland game Pheasants and all, and, and they went and prepurchased that and it caused them to not be able to apply in the draw for the big, for the actual Elk and Deer General. So then they had to get a refund for that so they can go back in.
00:10:56:04 –> 00:10:56:11
Be
00:10:56:11 –> 00:10:58:04
Careful. Those are, those are some projects
00:10:58:04 –> 00:11:02:22
When you’re, when you’re pointing and clicking your way to, you know, get a good elk or deer hunt. Make sure what you’re clicking on,
00:11:03:00 –> 00:11:15:17
That’s an awesome state for opportunity. And being able to, you know, somewhat, if you work the system, you can really work the system there and have a tag on a regular basis, but it doesn’t come without a few headaches. Yeah. So anyway, glad
00:11:15:17 –> 00:11:30:28
That’s over regarding the general you’re talking to. Yeah, yeah. General deer out general and, and even some of the limited quota or special elk tags. You can get ’em every single year if you’re going outfitted, you know, but on private land, but that’s right. Yeah. We’re glad that those are over with, but just brings another front burner. So
00:11:31:01 –> 00:11:42:03
Brings us to Utah, Kansas, Wyoming, sheep, goat, moose, bison and Idaho. Sheep, goat moose. That’s, that’s what’s up for, for the month of April. Yeah. So dive in. Let’s start this thing. Well,
00:11:42:03 –> 00:12:09:17
Let’s talk about Utah. Well we, we filled a lot of calls regarding this, you know, propo legislative fee increase in Utah. What it’s gonna mean. You know, we all, we were telling people just pump the brakes slightly. What what you saw was statutory maximums, the legislature passed, knew that the division was working with them to go through maybe some, I guess you’d call ’em unintended consequences of just flat universal doubling everywhere. And Yeah. Little
00:12:09:17 –> 00:12:24:05
Bit offensive if they double right off the bat. But yeah, we’ve been there when sometimes we’ve held our a hundred dollars membership fee and finally you have to have an increase. And it’s a, it’s not a gradual thing ’cause you don’t want it. I I I hate the nickels and dimes. Well, like Colorado.
00:12:24:17 –> 00:12:30:07
Colorado does it based off the consumer price index bullets it in the Denver Post on whatever month and day of the year of
00:12:30:07 –> 00:12:31:09
The leap year of such a,
00:12:32:07 –> 00:12:37:04
During a summer equinox, you know, with the hay comet the furthest away from us and the
00:12:37:16 –> 00:12:42:01
Right after the most recent president election. You know, I mean, it’s just like, geez,
00:12:42:28 –> 00:12:50:23
So and so, every time it goes up to a nice round number, you know, $478 and 26 cents or something in Colorado, it’s
00:12:50:23 –> 00:12:57:17
Never Well, and they’ll increase like, some kind of random little stamp of 23 and a half cents. You know, they don’t even make
00:12:57:17 –> 00:13:02:10
Payment. It’s based on a percentage. So it’s like every year it goes up. Just a weird little, but anyway,
00:13:02:26 –> 00:13:06:28
So once in a while when you have a change, here comes the big change, right? Yeah.
00:13:07:09 –> 00:13:54:23
Well and this was this, this came from the legislature and most of the time the Division of wildlife in Utah, well probably a lot of states, I don’t know, but Utah, at least when they see budgetary, you know, things cost ’em or whatever, they usually take it through the rack and the board process and get it approved. And then they have to go find a sponsor because with license fees, that does have to get ratified approved by the state legislature. But it usually goes that route. This one came the other way with I guess maybe some good intentions in mind with, you know, raising more money for, you know, being able to acquire purchase properties, property, winter range, things like that. Which on the outside sounds good and fine, but there are some unintended consequences. Probably the biggest was the threat to, hey, we’re gonna double our license and application fees and you know, that’s the fees that non-residents pay every year essentially.
00:13:54:26 –> 00:14:27:21
Unless you play the two for game, which we’ll get into that in a minute on the hunting license. But that’s the non-refundable fees you pay every year, which really is what we kind of all use as a barometer of how warm and fuzzy are we about applying in some states, you know, you, you weigh out drawing odds versus what I pay for those drawing odds or chance to get tags or whatever. Versus the limited, the once in lifetime tag fees. I, I don’t know that hardly anybody’s scared off by any of those. Or in, in most cases, the limited entry quality deer and elk tag fees, you pay ’em as a non-res, you’re gonna pay ’em once or twice in your
00:14:27:21 –> 00:14:34:17
Life. You don’t even have to front them. No. And so and so these are just fees that are not even, they don’t even apply to you until you actually
00:14:34:20 –> 00:14:49:07
Sometimes for decades. Yeah. Yeah. And yeah, they cost more than they would’ve if you’d had drawn, I we got guys with 27 8 points right now and they cost a lot more than if they’d have drawn 25 years ago. But everything does. So I, I mean, even though a lot of those didn’t quite
00:14:49:07 –> 00:14:53:25
Double, you can’t, you can’t go to Taco Bell without spending $15 buy your for on your own. What do
00:14:53:25 –> 00:14:59:18
You mean Taco Bell closed in our town because it was losing money. It’s gone. So, so like their shows Taco Bell? It did. Oh time. Sorry.
00:14:59:24 –> 00:15:02:28
Okay. Yes. Sorry. I’m like, I just got a 12
00:15:03:02 –> 00:15:04:04
Pack taco time.
00:15:05:00 –> 00:15:06:10
That’s the most amazing food. But I mean,
00:15:06:10 –> 00:15:11:29
And that thing’s right next to the high school, if you can’t make money on a taco stand I agree. Within a walking distance high school, which
00:15:11:29 –> 00:15:12:21
Taco time. That’s
00:15:12:21 –> 00:15:14:07
True. Something’s not right. Yeah.
00:15:14:19 –> 00:15:21:23
Yeah. We don’t have enough restaurants in this time. You went and tried to go get lunch at 12, 12 30. It’s a problem. Yeah. Anyway,
00:15:22:13 –> 00:15:33:09
But regarding the permit fees. Yeah, like, so yeah, they went up and, and they, they went, so the division met with the legislature and a lot of these were reduced, I think almost everything. I mean reduced
00:15:33:09 –> 00:15:34:09
From the original
00:15:34:28 –> 00:15:36:00
Doubling, doubling the flat doubling,
00:15:36:00 –> 00:15:42:24
Even if it was a, let’s say on these like elk and sheep. And so a slight reduction, nevertheless, not a full double.
00:15:43:01 –> 00:16:22:22
Yeah. You know, you’re still about 3,500 to four grand for the once a lifetimes if you draw ’em. Which, which is a lot of money. No, no question. But there’s states that are that higher or higher already. That’s right. For some of them. I mean, Arizona bison. What’s Wyoming bison? Like six grand. Arizona’s like five grand. Exactly. You know, sheep in New Mexico or 32 31. 3,200. Like I said, most people, if you’re applying for sheep, you have to be, most states are two grand or more. I mean, so yeah, these are a little bit higher limited entry elk in Utah, just under two grand limited entry deere. Depending on if you’re doing the limited entries, just over a grand, if you do premium, it might be premium. Say
00:16:22:25 –> 00:16:25:23
Say Henry’s or pos. Oh yeah. You’re in the 2260.
00:16:26:17 –> 00:16:29:15
Well that is, that’s a multi-season. Yeah,
00:16:29:15 –> 00:16:33:09
That’s a multi, excuse me. The, the premium limited entry is
00:16:33:12 –> 00:16:35:27
1400, looks like 1398 looks like.
00:16:35:27 –> 00:16:38:24
Yeah. And then the premium limited entry multi that most
00:16:38:28 –> 00:16:42:25
2300 is 23. That’s like a ponant. They gave a tag for that this year. And,
00:16:42:25 –> 00:16:53:09
And you could look at that and say, I’m never applying in Utah again. Okay. We’re talking once in your life and you’re not even applying for that multi premium. You’re not even, most guys are not
00:16:53:17 –> 00:17:00:06
Applying. This is the first year they even made a tag available in the draw. To my knowledge, the the PONANT has one tag, the Henry’s doesn’t. So,
00:17:00:14 –> 00:17:00:24
So this
00:17:00:24 –> 00:17:02:24
Is the first, nobody’s ever applied for that before.
00:17:02:27 –> 00:17:13:27
The fees that really make a difference are the non-refundable each and every year. And we’re talking the, the non-refundable non-resident hunting license went from one 20 to 1 44. Okay. Not,
00:17:14:06 –> 00:17:15:25
Not egregious. Still lower than, and
00:17:15:25 –> 00:17:25:01
Your point, or your application fee went from, let’s just call it $16, you know, 16 to 21, 20 $1 per species. Yeah. Not the end of the
00:17:25:01 –> 00:17:42:18
World. But, and, and you have to remember, I mean, that’s still cheaper than Arizona. Still cheaper than Nevada. And hey, we we’re, we balance all this same thing too. But the other thing about Utah that we preach often is there’s still a state that you can get a twofer on if you do it right. So really that $144 cut that in half if you’re smart about how you apply.
00:17:42:19 –> 00:17:47:01
So you have to have a current hunting license when you apply, but not necessarily when you hunt. Yeah,
00:17:47:02 –> 00:17:48:06
Yeah. Your tag basically
00:17:48:06 –> 00:17:52:17
Becomes your license. Yeah. Yeah. It’s a little bit weird that way. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, you’re
00:17:52:17 –> 00:17:53:10
Looking at, so you’re
00:17:53:10 –> 00:17:56:15
72 bucks for a license if you, if you plan
00:17:56:15 –> 00:17:57:17
It right. If, if you plan it right.
00:17:57:17 –> 00:18:01:16
And apply two years and two years on that one license, which you should be doing if you’re not.
00:18:02:07 –> 00:18:09:04
And I was doing that. And then my kids, my, my wife and children, they like to Turkey hunt fish. Fish you’re
00:18:09:10 –> 00:18:09:21
House.
00:18:10:06 –> 00:18:14:09
And here I am. I’m like, oh, we have to have a hunt. A valid hunting license year round. Yeah. Yes.
00:18:14:20 –> 00:18:14:27
So
00:18:14:27 –> 00:18:16:25
Finally I got ticked and I did the five year. Yeah,
00:18:17:01 –> 00:18:27:19
It is for a resident. You need it because Yeah, you go fishing one time to Lake Powell and you get, and you know, Jan wants to throw a pole in. Oh. Just ’cause everybody else is catching fish. Let’s clarify. Well,
00:18:27:19 –> 00:18:31:21
Well, I mean, she doesn’t wanna throw a pole in. Well, but she wants to go with the family, whole family
00:18:31:25 –> 00:18:37:21
Activity if everybody’s got a fish on and she’s, she’s, she’s gonna want to grab a pole. She does. She does. And right then you’re in that moment, Jason.
00:18:38:14 –> 00:18:47:03
Well, even if I touch the pole, her, my pole, don’t touch the pole. I hand her my pole and she’s jigging. And then we get whatever officer, you know, my, my best friend. Yeah.
00:18:47:03 –> 00:18:48:12
You can’t mentor her. Your fishing
00:18:48:12 –> 00:18:53:15
License. Here they come. Yeah, here they come. Well, I have a, I have a lifetime and I just, she was doing me a favor.
00:18:54:17 –> 00:18:55:24
I had to drive the boat and be safe.
00:18:56:20 –> 00:18:59:23
I’m one of those infamous lifetime license holders that everybody hates.
00:19:00:04 –> 00:19:02:21
Yes. Sorry.
00:19:02:22 –> 00:19:08:19
I’m one of the haters. How about you? No, absolutely. But how about this? They’ve been, they’ve been working off of the interest of my money for
00:19:08:26 –> 00:19:09:06
Years.
00:19:10:10 –> 00:19:40:25
I’m more than they paid 500 bucks. Like I’m year old guy. I’m gonna be that old guy that’s gonna come to the guys like John Peterson, the young Johns. And I’m gonna say young John, I’m 80 years old, I need more, I’m about to die. And young John’s gonna say, Jason, you’ve had all the opportunities in the world. You have way more than we have now. So true. Through your whole life. Anyway, I’m that guy. Lifetime. Bronson, how do you feel? Lifetime license. How do you feel, feel great. You as the system.
00:19:41:06 –> 00:19:46:01
Well, I mean, hey, if if people didn’t do it in 1992 or three, wherever that
00:19:46:01 –> 00:19:47:00
Would stop, would the division be right now?
00:19:47:01 –> 00:19:56:29
Well, no, I’m just saying if you weren’t born yet, if you weren’t born yet, I’m sorry you didn’t have the chance, but, but if you were alive and had the opportunity and didn’t do it, I don’t really have, Hey, I don’t have anything to say. There
00:19:56:29 –> 00:20:03:24
Has to be some positives for eat, lead paint back then. Oh, exactly. Like, you know, we, we endured things. That’s reward. That’s our reward. We endured some things.
00:20:04:01 –> 00:20:09:13
I was in Australia for a couple years when they stopped and I somehow, I still bought one. So it happened.
00:20:09:14 –> 00:20:12:10
Whoa. There’s gonna be some investigative work. No, no.
00:20:12:19 –> 00:20:12:25
Did
00:20:12:26 –> 00:20:13:13
You sign papers?
00:20:14:18 –> 00:20:17:10
Jason know how many years ago that was?
00:20:17:25 –> 00:20:20:12
I don’t know. Statue of limitations. So you’d say, throw
00:20:20:12 –> 00:20:24:13
That out there. It’s over. Try it for my cold dead hands. I dare you.
00:20:24:18 –> 00:20:41:25
All right. So the end of the, at the end of the day, if I’m a non-resident in Utah, I’m 144 bucks. Okay. That’s well within reason, even under most states. $21 to apply per species. Okay. I’m not seeing anything that’s bothering me one, one time in my life. At some point in my life, I’m gonna pay, you
00:20:41:25 –> 00:20:42:19
Know, a good chunk for
00:20:42:28 –> 00:20:48:19
Oh, $1,900 for an elk tag. Hey, hey Josh, would you pay $1,900 for an elk tag to hunt Pengu Lake?
00:20:48:25 –> 00:20:49:25
Yeah. Every year.
00:20:51:05 –> 00:20:52:11
Five times a year. Yeah.
00:20:52:29 –> 00:20:53:07
Five
00:20:53:07 –> 00:20:54:11
Times that and that. And that’s the thing,
00:20:54:18 –> 00:20:55:25
Honestly, would you pay five grand for
00:20:57:08 –> 00:21:01:09
Yeah, I mean that’s getting up there. I couldn’t do it every year, but yes, I would.
00:21:01:12 –> 00:21:02:15
But you’d do it for this year? Yes.
00:21:02:15 –> 00:21:03:21
Yeah. Oh yeah. If you
00:21:04:00 –> 00:21:22:22
Oh yeah. To cash in your points, you would, the answer is yes. Like, and you look at like Wyoming special charges about the same price. Yeah. I I mean, Nevada’s not that high, but they’ve been 1200 for a long time, which felt high. Yeah. We were talking about New Mexico, that high demand quality at 7 75. That’s been that way since Phil’s like ever. They
00:21:22:24 –> 00:21:25:07
Were kicked when I was Logan’s age. I was paying it
00:21:25:13 –> 00:21:27:03
And it felt monumental and
00:21:27:03 –> 00:21:33:12
Expensive was back when a dollar was a dollar. And they still made pennies. That’s, and they, and they appreciated ’em too. Well that’s,
00:21:33:14 –> 00:21:34:21
They were made in the copper state.
00:21:35:12 –> 00:21:35:18
Oh
00:21:35:18 –> 00:21:44:24
Geez. That’s the thing. Like our, our quality of our, our elk hunts here. I was fortunate enough last year to have two, two elk tags and one of Mexico and one in Utah. And
00:21:45:01 –> 00:21:47:06
That’s not fair. I taken advantage of the system talk.
00:21:47:06 –> 00:21:50:00
Yeah, you wanna talk, you wanna talk about if not fair system, John taking
00:21:50:00 –> 00:21:50:22
Advantage. All right.
00:21:50:29 –> 00:21:52:09
Something, something.
00:21:52:12 –> 00:21:56:13
Wait, I’m on, I’m on like license revocation? No, not license revocation.
00:21:56:22 –> 00:21:56:25
I
00:21:56:25 –> 00:22:08:06
Still, I’m on the waiting period still as well, so I can’t talk. Alright, keep going. I say you should have a waiting period. You had an amazing experience. Well, so you’re gonna compare the New Mexico and Utah and see where you’re going. Yeah,
00:22:08:09 –> 00:22:38:24
I and, and the experiences there. The, the tag that I had in New Mexico was one of the quote unquote better units that, that you can draw there better for lots of different reasons. But, you know, quality of bulls, I guess is one of ’em. And just the quality of bulls that I hunted on a Utah, one of our premium, it’s one of our premium, I guess you could say limited it, but it is just a limited entry. But the quality of bulls that I was passing there compared to the bulls that I was loving, that I would be hunting in New Mexico. Yeah. You’d you’d pay that to come have that experience. It was, yeah. You know, it’s, it’s awesome man. And you’re, you’re only gonna do it once.
00:22:39:13 –> 00:22:55:11
What I, I, I love where you’re going with it and I, what I can’t get over is the value of 180 inch deer. If we’re talking deer now, let’s just, what’s, you can’t even hardly book a hunt to hunt a 180, a gorgeous boxy. Big four and a half, five and a half year old deer. Legitimate.
00:22:55:11 –> 00:23:22:21
180. Geez. Well, and back to that like, like the general season deer and elk, which I know there was some big angst of the initial doubling prices that were thrown out there that some people caught wind of. We’ll call ’em the Logan, you might cut this or not, but I don’t care. We’ll call ’em the TMZ of the hunting world. We’re kind of frothing up the world on this. They ended up settling on the general mill there in Utah at 5 99. The Elk 8 49. They don’t seem too egregious to me. Yes, yes. It’s more than they were. But
00:23:23:03 –> 00:23:23:16
That’s
00:23:23:25 –> 00:23:51:07
Well within what we pay in a lot of other states, you know, for general it’s a lot. And as a non-resident, those are the things you, you, other than the license and application fees that we just talked about, that General Elk and General Deere are some that you could pay on a much more regular basis. You know, that, that I think the division, you know, as they went, brought this forward to and say, Hey, maybe a doubling on some of these is really aggressive. We’re worried about, about, hey, maybe not making the money that, that this program is intended to make. So, not not terribly outta line. Yes. They
00:23:51:07 –> 00:24:00:15
Wanna, I wanna, I wanna divert your attention to Colorado 2025 Epic Magazine. Elk Cow. Okay. Non-resident fee. How much? $825.
00:24:00:21 –> 00:24:06:17
It’s the same as the Bulls. You remember they used to be a two 50 for all those years, Jason. They used to give you that and they did away with that.
00:24:06:17 –> 00:24:14:04
And these have gradually increased over the course of time. They’ve been high forever. And how many people go hunt cows in, in Colorado? Cows
00:24:14:04 –> 00:24:17:15
Ands It’s the same price as a, as a spike or general bull in Utah.
00:24:17:20 –> 00:24:21:07
That’s, and I don’t, do I like it? No. No. I don’t really like it.
00:24:21:21 –> 00:24:38:03
We don’t, like nobody likes change. But I mean, let’s just keep it in perspective here. People, big west picture and we’re not, we live in Utah, like, like, but, and we realize we’re not paying these fees, but we see these through the, through the lens of all the other states and what they charge and how they play their games and what they charge.
00:24:38:06 –> 00:24:47:00
I don’t pay these fees, but we pay some fees. Okay. If we’re adding up what I’m doing in Nevada for women and children, like oh yeah. I mean I’m well over a grand. Oh yeah, well
00:24:47:00 –> 00:24:57:15
Over a grand. Same, same with Arizona. I mean you’re, if you have five people, you’re in a couple hundred bucks a year non-refundable just for the license and $15 app fees from a couple different draws. Yeah. 200, 190 to 200.
00:24:57:15 –> 00:25:18:29
And you do have choices. You can, you can drop out and maybe the odds for non-residents will be good. And there’s a lot of guys frothing like, hey, lick in their chops of, you know, people dropping out and the odds are gonna get better. Maybe, maybe it does happen. I don’t think it’ll be as, you know, as aggressive of a dropout as people think. And we all get mad initially and then everybody kind of, you know, a week or two passes and they’re finally right, I’ll apply. You know,
00:25:19:00 –> 00:25:25:05
But we’ve gone through it in a lot of states, Wyoming up even ourselves there special tag fees for deer, elk and antelope year or two ago,
00:25:25:14 –> 00:25:33:22
The same thing. So let’s divert to that because we were aggressively talking about this when we were running odds. Oh yeah. On our website. We’re looking at the website odds go, go look at what the special deer
00:25:33:22 –> 00:25:41:24
Looked like. Pay attention. Pay attention to the main magazines. All I’m gonna say, when it comes to the special price, deer, deer license regions in, in Wyoming, it’s
00:25:42:03 –> 00:25:43:05
Unbelievable as far the odds, the special license
00:25:43:12 –> 00:25:47:28
Odds, how many of ’em you can draw? Second, third choice. It’s unbelievable. For 1200 something bucks
00:25:48:01 –> 00:25:52:05
Region G 25% draw. I I mean it might 23, I
00:25:52:05 –> 00:25:53:23
Can’t remember. 49 50, 20 5%.
00:25:53:26 –> 00:26:00:21
Yeah. H was 50 50. I mean, hey, sign me up. You know what I’m saying? I mean, it’s not,
00:26:01:07 –> 00:26:23:03
It’s pretty awesome. Yeah. And you compare what a $1,200, what you do in another state, whether it be, I mean by the time you go to Colorado, was it 500 bucks for a tag? And of course you still, you know, you gotta buy that tag. But I mean you’re $500, but if you buy a moderate or cheapest cheaper than dirt landowner tags a grand or 1500 in Colorado. So that’s the same price as special price license for what would you
00:26:23:03 –> 00:26:23:10
Rather
00:26:23:10 –> 00:26:29:05
Have for Wyoming? Well, in a lot of cases I, I’d probably rather Wyoming not in every region, I’m not, you know, but there’s, oh,
00:26:29:05 –> 00:26:47:15
But I was, I’ve been impressed in some of the different regions I’ve been to like you throughout w and places that I’ve hunted. Would you go back? Yeah. Yeah. That’s, it’s worth it. I don’t know. I find it interesting. Same thing like Justin, when Justin killed his first year six point, we were over there in Colorado hunting deer and you know, I ed up, he
00:26:47:15 –> 00:26:48:18
Had turned 18, right?
00:26:48:25 –> 00:26:49:16
He had turned, yeah,
00:26:49:19 –> 00:26:51:09
Barity, it went from a hundred and some
00:26:51:09 –> 00:26:53:10
Books. It was like he was on the edge. I can’t even remember what
00:26:54:07 –> 00:26:57:16
I think it was that July, isn’t it July cutoff there, if I remember right. Or
00:26:57:16 –> 00:27:01:07
Anyway, I walked out of Walmart way, cheap way broker, I
00:27:01:07 –> 00:27:02:12
Think, what did I just do?
00:27:02:19 –> 00:27:06:06
But then you, you smash a bull and, and, and you’re like, man, it’s
00:27:06:06 –> 00:27:06:21
Best money ever
00:27:06:21 –> 00:27:22:07
Spent. Yeah. Kind of. You know. And so anyway, it is what it is. We’re not, and I, because we live here, we’re a, I wanna, I wanna make it very clear, we are not like paid off by Utah to support Utah. No, they don’t. Don’t pass. We’ve actually been very critical of Utah. Yeah.
00:27:22:15 –> 00:27:36:21
But it’s also, I guess what we’re slightly frustrated ’cause we’ve dealt with a ton of calls the last three weeks. But just like Wyoming and some of the changes that are point systems or New Mexico proposing some egregiously high fees this year. Stuff doesn’t always pass. When you see
00:27:37:08 –> 00:27:37:29
$9,000
00:27:38:03 –> 00:27:53:18
Rattling around in a, in a, in a legislative affairs meeting or a, or even in a, you know, local board meeting, meeting level stuff doesn’t always stick. So, man, it seems like, and there’s a lot of news being reported as fact and done deal and signed seal and Deliber
00:27:53:21 –> 00:28:14:13
Not, but then since they went down that road, they’ve gotta keep going down that road. And again, you’re only gonna pay this one time. If you get really lucky, you’re gonna be dinged. Your account’s gonna be a bit li lighter. I get it. But having said that, getting to that point, it might be 20 years before you draw, who knows what these fees are gonna be. They’re gonna keep going up with inflation. It’s kind of life. These are gonna stick for a while probably. Yeah. I mean
00:28:14:13 –> 00:28:44:19
There’s just, that’s another way to look at it. It’s like signing, it’s like signing a John football player a year or two before you need to resign them. Yeah. Because you know, the, the barometer of, you know, the salary cap and position pay that what you pay for certain positions only going higher. And then you look at people like Patrick Mahomes right now. They’re like, I don’t know, they even the, he’s even the top 10 for quarterbacks. Yeah, probably not. That’s crazy. And you got people like Purdy, I mean we’re way going down at all. You got Purdy Mike the highest we’ve
00:28:44:19 –> 00:28:46:23
Lost. Jason got people like
00:28:47:02 –> 00:28:49:21
Purdy might be more of the highest players. I didn’t and he’s not the best.
00:28:49:27 –> 00:28:57:10
I just wanna know where to kill 200. I’m listening to Epic podcasts for Mule Deer information. It’s a good analogy though.
00:28:57:21 –> 00:29:00:25
John knows what I’m picking up. Yeah, totally. He’s picking up what I’m putting down. But hey,
00:29:00:25 –> 00:29:02:01
You’re saving money. The
00:29:02:01 –> 00:29:26:11
Principle is this shocks shocks you in two years. It’s not that shocking change. Huff. We all know that. And as every state kind of does a little bit more, it does put pressure on how much disposable income we can, we can apply for. But let, let’s look also, Utah came out with their proposed permit, permit numbers, bow, look at the, look at the once in lifetime tags in the state of Utah for all species. They almost doubled them for this year. A lot of ’em went from like five to nine and well,
00:29:26:11 –> 00:29:39:09
Because of the grouping. And they, and it was actually smart for the non-resident perspective. We’re talking about the non-resident perspective. We got a lot of Utah guys listening to this. Yeah. But anyway, from the non-resident perspective, we always had the singles, which were random draws. Never,
00:29:39:09 –> 00:29:52:29
Never give a high point tag. This year you’re gonna have ’em in, in all species. They’re gonna, there’s gonna be like four maximum point desert sheep tags and a rocky tag. Plenty of goat. Plenty of bison in the max point pool. That’s right. Some years there’s never any of for any
00:29:52:29 –> 00:30:12:00
Because it do the 10% of the total. And so then when you group ’em and you only allow residents or non-residents to apply for certain ones, the ones listed in black in the re in the application booklet, then it allows for more tags to be issued per one. So when you look at the resident and non-resident, you’re like, well there’s five and two. That’s, that’s crazy.
00:30:12:06 –> 00:30:26:04
But they’re just pulling other hunts together that don’t have any non-residents and given two on that. It’s just like you could draw eight desert sheep tags or or nine from nine different units. One of ’em, well they’re, but they’re allowing you to put ’em for five and four of the five were given two tags. And for
00:30:26:04 –> 00:30:37:05
The non. Yeah. So for the non-residents that have been waiting for this, that have had a ton of points, we’re gonna feel, felt like they were gonna die at their points. You now, if you’re at the very top tier, you’re, you’re in command right now. It’s
00:30:37:05 –> 00:30:40:04
Pretty awesome. Heard from three of ’em yesterday. It was crazy. Yeah. Three of those people.
00:30:40:04 –> 00:30:43:05
Pretty fun. Three of the 12. Yeah. On the sheep
00:30:43:24 –> 00:30:44:10
On the desert.
00:30:44:14 –> 00:30:45:04
And they’re excited.
00:30:45:04 –> 00:30:57:23
They’re waiting. Yeah. But, but anyway. And and the same generally goes for, for deer and elk. You know, we’ve added, you know, a lot of different SKUs. Like we like to jokingly call for elk and deer throughout the state. That spreads out applicants. And it
00:30:57:27 –> 00:30:59:24
Gives you a chance of different but gotten a little aggressive.
00:30:59:24 –> 00:31:00:23
There are some, I mean
00:31:01:06 –> 00:31:02:04
If you’re willing to use it,
00:31:02:07 –> 00:31:05:07
Just ask Logan if you willing to use it on his gun. Single
00:31:05:07 –> 00:31:07:23
Strand bow with guts cat gut
00:31:08:12 –> 00:31:17:18
Made with Sin U and you know, whatever tendon from a hawk from two different big game animals. S Logan, do you got a gun yet that you can hunt with this fall or no?
00:31:17:27 –> 00:31:19:11
No. I just applied on, I
00:31:19:12 –> 00:31:24:01
Got one you can buy. I love. Okay. I love selling Logan stuff. Well, Bronson, you’ve been selling him.
00:31:24:12 –> 00:31:31:05
I’m coming on my a new rule. I won’t buy anything from the epic office people one year. This guy needs maxed
00:31:31:05 –> 00:31:31:07
Out.
00:31:31:17 –> 00:31:39:01
Just so you know. Like you can use a rifle, but it has to be open side. Okay. It doesn’t have to be straight walled, but I’ve got a straight walled for you. That’s the best straight wall ever.
00:31:39:07 –> 00:31:40:21
Tell if I draw, I’ll come knocking
00:31:41:20 –> 00:31:55:09
Free cash. I might just have to have a, a loaner. One of those guns are in the office. It’s the, as soon as somebody draws you, like check it out. Kinda like booking a hotel in a one hotel town in Colorado that’s got 14 rooms. You better call the second, you know, you draw, you’re not gonna get one.
00:31:55:16 –> 00:32:10:00
It is frustrating. We do get frustrated with Utah on these tag numbers. ’cause we’re pretty sensitive to that. And the beaver, when they did the split Beaver east and west on General Deer, let’s say. Okay. It was a thousand total. Now it’s what? It’s a 1,900. Right.
00:32:10:07 –> 00:32:10:19
Almost
00:32:10:19 –> 00:32:11:29
Double taxes collectively went up.
00:32:12:12 –> 00:32:22:21
Yeah. And it’s just, you know, it’s just hard to watch, especially from passionate Beaver County that cares about trophies as much or more than any other county. Right. I mean, no matter what Josh says about county,
00:32:22:21 –> 00:32:30:25
Josh is staying quiet here. He, they’re my people. It was one of my, Josh stays quiet here. We know he’s been threatened by somebody from Beaver County. You wanna bring us back to, so for the
00:32:30:25 –> 00:32:32:05
Utah beaver talking about beaver
00:32:32:05 –> 00:32:32:11
Double
00:32:32:24 –> 00:32:47:17
Tag numbers. The tag numbers are, are aggressive. They did come down a few, I guess in the name of drought and whatnot, which we are right in the middle of, even though we’ve had some time in moisture. But, but Beaver, they went ahead and cranked you guys somehow You’ve offended SFW and others. We
00:32:47:17 –> 00:32:49:27
Did. Yes. We probably shouldn’t have spoke our minds.
00:32:51:10 –> 00:32:51:21
Don’t
00:32:51:21 –> 00:33:04:06
Do that Earl. You get slapped. It’s just, it’s just interesting ’cause it already felt cramped. Yeah. You know? Yeah. And even though it, it was a large unit, but now it’s cut in half and it, it just already felt cramped. So cranked the tab, it was hard to see.
00:33:04:24 –> 00:33:09:28
You’re gonna be less successful with all the open site provisions. Yeah. So, I don’t know. We’ll see. You know, bullets.
00:33:10:02 –> 00:33:11:03
Bullets whizzing everywhere.
00:33:11:14 –> 00:33:13:11
It’ll be, it’ll be fun. It, it’ll
00:33:13:11 –> 00:33:14:22
Always be fun. Yeah.
00:33:15:24 –> 00:33:18:17
All right. Okay. Well, Bronson, what else we got? Hey,
00:33:18:20 –> 00:33:20:01
So I, I need some therapy.
00:33:20:19 –> 00:33:20:25
Oh,
00:33:21:16 –> 00:33:23:05
For, we’ve talked about tag fees.
00:33:23:09 –> 00:33:23:29
Start the clock.
00:33:24:02 –> 00:33:24:12
Right.
00:33:25:14 –> 00:33:29:16
When am I gonna be able to spend my money? And they actually take that tag fee.
00:33:29:20 –> 00:33:41:27
You know, you have like pet peeves. I need, I need just you guys to talk me through this. Some things just bug me. So tell me, change my mind here. Call May forcing someone to buy a hunting license when they’re not gonna be able to hunt that year. John,
00:33:41:27 –> 00:33:44:16
That’s good for a cottontail or, or coyotes or, I
00:33:44:16 –> 00:33:48:15
Don’t know. I, I know it’s good for it, but you have to have it in order to apply.
00:33:49:01 –> 00:33:51:04
You’re talking like even Arizona, you have to have
00:33:51:24 –> 00:33:54:05
Nevada, Arizona shooting. Kyle,
00:33:54:05 –> 00:33:55:12
Arizona would,
00:33:55:22 –> 00:34:02:07
Colorado would be, I think it’s morally wrong to charge a hunting license fee when you’re knocking it then they’re not gonna hunt to I would
00:34:02:12 –> 00:34:02:27
To apply
00:34:02:27 –> 00:34:06:01
Only you’re saying to apply only, I would rather, they call it an application
00:34:06:01 –> 00:34:07:09
Fee fee. Somebody jumped on the bandwagon after.
00:34:07:09 –> 00:34:08:11
Well here’s why they call
00:34:08:11 –> 00:34:10:04
It an application fee. I’m totally fine.
00:34:10:21 –> 00:34:11:12
A point fee in Wyoming.
00:34:12:06 –> 00:34:14:28
Yeah. Well, and some Well that’s okay. You’re getting something on that. No,
00:34:14:28 –> 00:34:17:09
I know, but I mean, they haven’t caught on, caught onto the whole hunting
00:34:17:09 –> 00:34:18:12
Thing. Yeah. Wyoming thing. Yeah.
00:34:18:13 –> 00:34:19:18
Well, and I know it’s just, and they
00:34:19:18 –> 00:34:35:10
Don’t do because with the Pittman Pittman Roberson money, that’s why they’re doing this. Yeah. You, you and a lot of them, like with elk or even some of these, they’ll, they’ll show you hunting and fishing. Arizona does that. Or the elk tag in Wyoming comes with a fishing license. Or you, your hunting license. Nevada
00:34:35:10 –> 00:34:38:01
Comes with everything. You except for a federal duck stamp.
00:34:38:02 –> 00:34:43:03
That’s right. And you g you buy a Idaho, remember you get a three day fishing license on top of that. Yeah.
00:34:43:03 –> 00:34:44:01
Which three days do you want fish?
00:34:44:07 –> 00:34:53:10
It’s because of federal money. And they can, they can get, they can get money from your, money, from your hunting license for hunting and fishing that way. That’s why they’re doing it.
00:34:53:22 –> 00:34:55:18
So they call it that to get more money. And
00:34:55:20 –> 00:34:55:29
Well
00:34:56:28 –> 00:34:58:13
Triple if it’s applic,
00:34:58:24 –> 00:35:15:09
If it’s an application fee, they can’t, because those money are earmarked by, you know, the federal government for the excise tax on fishing equipment, hunting equipment to, to go back to the states based on license sales based on individuals that buy hunting licenses. Yeah. So that answers your question as
00:35:15:09 –> 00:35:16:11
To why it’s all about the money, John.
00:35:16:15 –> 00:35:17:00
It’s kind of like,
00:35:17:08 –> 00:35:17:24
It comes back to
00:35:17:24 –> 00:35:26:29
About the money. If I’m gonna drive across Colorado, they should make you buy a hunting license to drive across the state, you know? Well, what about tolls on roads? I just, yeah, it’s just, well, you’re using the world. I
00:35:26:29 –> 00:35:27:13
Get those texts
00:35:27:13 –> 00:35:29:12
Every day. But it’s like something that you’re not gonna use.
00:35:30:18 –> 00:35:32:01
You’re not gonna use it by choice.
00:35:32:15 –> 00:35:33:05
Yes. Well,
00:35:33:05 –> 00:35:33:28
There you can.
00:35:34:20 –> 00:35:36:16
You’re not going to, these guys didn’t
00:35:36:16 –> 00:35:37:28
Any, I was, was the only one that didn’t, didn’t
00:35:37:28 –> 00:35:43:09
Even hear me. What did you say? I said I get those texts every day for 12 full and I pay ’em. ’cause I don’t wanna get in trouble. Oh,
00:35:43:09 –> 00:35:44:07
Come on. I just
00:35:44:27 –> 00:35:45:06
Eggs.
00:35:45:28 –> 00:35:50:16
I use the Epic card. I use the epic card. ’cause I figured it’s coming in. It’s a business. I figured.
00:35:50:19 –> 00:35:52:22
Last thing I want is to have my two business partners
00:35:53:24 –> 00:35:59:09
Out. Needs your help. Adam, there’s no beautiful singles in your area wanting to meet you. Stay away from those
00:35:59:09 –> 00:36:00:12
Ads. Just toast. Whoa,
00:36:00:12 –> 00:36:01:15
Logan. How do you even know that
00:36:01:27 –> 00:36:08:19
Pop up? I’m talking about, I didn’t know. Hey, I, there’s places that take your license plate and you get a ticket in the mail. I’m thinking this is gonna be me. I better pay it.
00:36:09:04 –> 00:36:10:10
I just want keep, I don’t
00:36:10:10 –> 00:36:18:00
Want, I don’t want it. Be the loose link brings down Epic outdoors Jesus and knock. I know I got one. You got ’em out better. Knock on
00:36:18:00 –> 00:36:18:05
Something.
00:36:18:05 –> 00:36:23:28
Bron, you got an Adam f Bronson that works here. He’s got about some outstanding warrants for to fees. I don’t wanna be the guy.
00:36:25:03 –> 00:36:39:00
Well, hey, what about Arizona’s? Arizona’s listening, pulling, pulling fee or hunting licenses for years for littering. I’m just saying. I know Bronson, you’re gonna pull us for they’re gonna pull you and you’re gonna bring down Epic.
00:36:39:13 –> 00:36:40:03
I I I’m actually
00:36:40:03 –> 00:36:41:05
Littering a gun. Gun.
00:36:41:08 –> 00:36:43:06
I’m actually scared to hunt down there. Don’t
00:36:43:06 –> 00:36:45:27
We Arizona? They’re commission. They’re jerks.
00:36:46:19 –> 00:36:47:03
They are.
00:36:47:20 –> 00:36:50:09
No joke. You’re gonna go before the commission For what? Have
00:36:50:09 –> 00:36:51:11
To take a hunting safety
00:36:51:11 –> 00:37:31:13
Course. Do yourself a favor. Do yourself a favor, you know, repent in church for taking that extra fish. And don’t, don’t go before those people. Let ’em take your license for five years and your kids’ licenses for another five. They’re brutal. Yeah. I’m not saying some people don’t deserve it, but geez man. They, I mean, yeah, those people, I don’t know. They, they worked a guy over. Okay, just let’s hear it. Adam watched it because I, I was watching it filter. I turned up the volume. They took a guy’s, they, they worked life a guy over. Okay. For life was for trail cams for kill four Lions. Lions on that for a mountain lion. Which, and here we should, we should
00:37:31:25 –> 00:37:32:01
Be
00:37:32:01 –> 00:37:32:09
Honoring
00:37:32:09 –> 00:37:32:22
The guy in
00:37:32:22 –> 00:37:44:04
A way here. And you don’t even have to have a tag. You don’t even have to have a carcass tag here to kill a lion. Okay. We, we should be ho honoring him. I love that. Yeah. We should be getting a plaque killed. Four lions, nevertheless, you know, done for
00:37:44:04 –> 00:37:44:18
Life. I think
00:37:44:18 –> 00:38:09:27
Maybe there’s, there’s probably some extenuating circumstances, but even moving on from that is they worked a guy over for not eating the lion. Eating the lion for want and waste a wildlife. Oh gosh. I mean, okay. It is the most amazing meat on planet earth. But wow. I’m just saying that doesn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth. I don’t know what does You remember that part? Oh
00:38:09:27 –> 00:38:12:06
Yeah. Oh, on the fish over limit for how many years
00:38:12:06 –> 00:38:17:00
They got and she was the gall just went off on, on wasting the carcass. And have
00:38:17:00 –> 00:38:17:06
You ever
00:38:17:06 –> 00:38:29:09
Seen a piece of meat get wasted in the wild? No, the all, every scrap is eaten. Oh. I mean those, those condors. Oh man. They need to eat. Yeah. We’re saving the condors. They need to eat. I’m just saying like the
00:38:29:28 –> 00:38:30:07
A cat
00:38:30:18 –> 00:38:37:06
Cat meat’s not going to waste. Josh, you’re very quiet. I How does bobcat taste?
00:38:38:24 –> 00:38:46:09
Never tasted that. But I do know that I’ve personally witnessed there is one thing that goes to waste every time. What a coyote. Nothing
00:38:46:09 –> 00:38:49:27
Eats coyote. Nothing eats coyote. Nothing. Coyotes delete coyotes, won’t they? No. Nothing.
00:38:49:27 –> 00:38:53:17
Nothing to lead a coyote. I not even a bear bears. How
00:38:53:21 –> 00:39:02:17
About the lion? Lions? How about the lions? We see in trail cameras that have the coyo in its mouth. I’ve got that Coyotes are eating or lions are eating coyotes. That’s just
00:39:02:21 –> 00:39:03:10
A pleasure killing.
00:39:03:25 –> 00:39:11:12
I’m out on this. We, there’s documented. Okay. I’m not going to expound because it’s some of my favorite place on planet earth, but lions eating coyotes
00:39:11:16 –> 00:39:29:11
Really? No. I maybe they will. I just know ’cause I’ve found, I’ve found going into pick up collars and stuff where coyotes will try and come in to like take a kill or something away from the lion. Yeah. And they’ve killed the, they’ve killed the, the coyotes and the coyotes are just laying there dead. Yeah, they are. Haven’t been eating or anything. And they’re still eating the deer. But, okay. I
00:39:29:11 –> 00:39:31:03
Got one that’s different. Josh, you’ve got I got one.
00:39:31:04 –> 00:39:33:25
I got one. Our maggots are maggots. Not God’s creature, but,
00:39:34:06 –> 00:39:42:21
But absolutely. Absolutely. I love it. John. This lion has a venison cache right here. And he has a
00:39:43:04 –> 00:39:43:18
Manji dog.
00:39:43:24 –> 00:39:46:15
What are you gonna eat? I mean, it’s not hard.
00:39:46:18 –> 00:39:48:07
There was, there was a more
00:39:48:07 –> 00:39:49:29
Expensive, there’s a lack of innocence.
00:39:50:04 –> 00:39:52:01
A more extensive project that I had once.
00:39:52:04 –> 00:39:53:19
Oh, whoa. Even tell me more.
00:39:53:19 –> 00:39:55:01
Not even, not even a bear would eat a coyote.
00:39:57:09 –> 00:39:59:21
Well that tells you something. ’cause bears are disgusting.
00:39:59:21 –> 00:40:05:15
They, they’re, they’re, they’re disgusting. And they wouldn’t even, they wouldn’t even touch it. Yeah. I even put powdered sugar on it and they still wouldn’t touch it.
00:40:05:20 –> 00:40:08:00
If you ever Well,
00:40:08:10 –> 00:40:12:01
We could go down this road. I, I hate bear. I’ll never kill another black bear.
00:40:12:12 –> 00:40:12:24
Really?
00:40:13:06 –> 00:40:16:17
I mean, when you look at ’em skinned out, laying there, what does it look like,
00:40:16:18 –> 00:40:22:24
Jason? I’ve never skinned a human. A dead human. I’ve never skinned a human, so I wouldn’t know. But you’ve said they, they’re just a skin human.
00:40:22:24 –> 00:40:23:27
Disgusting. So if you
00:40:24:01 –> 00:40:24:22
Skinned a human, what
00:40:24:22 –> 00:40:27:24
Are you No, it was a, just looks like a naked man. A case.
00:40:27:26 –> 00:40:32:05
There was a case, there was a case.
00:40:34:19 –> 00:40:36:12
Janet’s got a lot of work cut out for her.
00:40:36:27 –> 00:40:51:01
We were working a case one time and when I was a game, Lord, way back in the day, and I remember that was the first time I’d ever experienced that. And we were hiking this gang and looking for a bear carcass. ’cause we knew what had been left. And it was, but it was like a skinned out bear carcass. So just the carcass.
00:40:51:03 –> 00:40:53:12
But that’s legal in Utah though, right? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We don’t have
00:40:53:12 –> 00:40:54:24
To him. But that wasn’t, that wasn’t because of it.
00:40:54:24 –> 00:41:03:29
Okay. You’re still something else you’re investigating. Yes. We were looking, you’re digging what was in its guts looking for No, you’re looking for a and you’re looking for a receipt that he fell out his perfect Snickers wrapper
00:41:04:21 –> 00:41:04:28
Ing
00:41:05:16 –> 00:41:06:28
Can’t wait to go for the commission
00:41:07:06 –> 00:41:16:04
Anyway. And we are, and we’re walking down this canyon and I look down on this rock and there’s this big old huge bloated up looked like, looked like a skinned out human laying down there on this rock.
00:41:16:15 –> 00:41:19:04
Arms in the air. And you’re going do the on
00:41:19:04 –> 00:41:20:01
Its back. And I’m like’s
00:41:20:01 –> 00:41:20:21
Disgusting.
00:41:21:16 –> 00:41:22:04
It, it’s
00:41:22:09 –> 00:41:22:19
Unsettling.
00:41:23:06 –> 00:41:23:28
It’s unsettling.
00:41:24:12 –> 00:41:26:05
That took Viking to the next level.
00:41:27:02 –> 00:41:27:11
Yeah.
00:41:27:20 –> 00:41:31:15
And I, I mean, I didn’t know where that bear got into sprinkles and corn, but somewhere it did
00:41:32:24 –> 00:41:33:06
Cookie
00:41:33:16 –> 00:41:37:07
Crumbs. And then you’re going like this with the
00:41:37:07 –> 00:41:40:09
Gut, Josh.
00:41:41:17 –> 00:41:47:15
It’s always one sentence. John put, or Josh takes it further than it needs to go. Exactly.
00:41:47:29 –> 00:41:49:27
Logan. We don’t need to look at Reddit.
00:41:50:27 –> 00:41:51:10
That’s
00:41:51:10 –> 00:41:51:25
Exactly what
00:41:51:28 –> 00:41:54:03
It looks like. Disgusting. Well,
00:41:55:16 –> 00:41:55:24
I I
00:41:55:24 –> 00:41:57:29
Don’t even know where we’re at. I’m fine. Well, we’re
00:41:57:29 –> 00:42:02:21
Good. I’m fine with killing ’em. It’s just, it’s just, you know, whatever. Anyway. Not my favorite
00:42:02:21 –> 00:42:06:19
Thing. I have a lot of good meat in my freezer. It’s not from horse
00:42:06:21 –> 00:42:09:17
Meat. Horn and horse. Horse.
00:42:10:14 –> 00:42:12:18
It’s called orex. Jason. There’s
00:42:12:18 –> 00:42:14:13
A big difference. Go watch video there. I
00:42:14:13 –> 00:42:15:00
Don’t want be
00:42:15:00 –> 00:42:15:13
In their tails.
00:42:15:22 –> 00:42:16:18
I don’t want to be investigated.
00:42:16:21 –> 00:42:18:06
The flies off each other’s faces. Well, when
00:42:18:10 –> 00:42:19:22
Faces, when you say horse,
00:42:19:26 –> 00:42:23:06
They’re parked, they’re parked butt to face. And, and
00:42:23:06 –> 00:42:46:01
This flicking each other’s faces and this era of chat, GBT and all you guys are showing me, you’re saying Adam has horse meat in his, in his freezer. And that’s living out there. I’m gonna get investigated for shooting a Mustang out west. This is not true. We live right out here. This is not true. So they, they resemble a horse in ways. It is definitely different. Distinctly different. I paid money for those tags. I bought ’em. They’re mine. It’s, I eat them all.
00:42:46:29 –> 00:42:51:28
It’s all true. It’s all true. But I I’m way past where we, where we at now?
00:42:52:02 –> 00:42:58:01
Well, we’re, so we need to talk anything more about Utah? No, I mean, crap. The highlights haven’t changed a whole lot. It is tough to draw.
00:42:58:10 –> 00:43:02:22
I still think they’re discriminating against residents. We can only apply for dear Elk. I don’t,
00:43:03:04 –> 00:43:03:07
I
00:43:03:07 –> 00:43:04:05
Don’t. One of the once in lifetime.
00:43:04:21 –> 00:43:05:23
I don’t, I don’t want it though.
00:43:06:05 –> 00:43:07:24
I like it. I I like being up, being
00:43:07:26 –> 00:43:09:13
Half choose regulates the odds a little bit. It
00:43:09:13 –> 00:43:21:29
Does a little bit kind of the Idaho principle. Yeah. Of having to choose sheep, goat, or moose. And then you could do the deer, elk and antelope. We can’t even do that here. But hey, the non-residents will take all your application fees and do good things with Well,
00:43:21:29 –> 00:43:27:05
And look at even antelope pods for non-residents are terrible. Why? Because everybody added it. Because for 20 bucks, 18
00:43:27:20 –> 00:43:34:06
Bucks Now you can throw in Now if that, you know, if it going from 16 to 21 bothers you, give it up. Yeah. You know, no problem.
00:43:34:07 –> 00:43:49:04
License fee’s, not too much. Remember the twofer. But should we breeze through these other states that are due this month? I mean Idaho, she can go, well, we’re, we don’t, when I say breeze, I would say breeze. I mean a 62nd breeze and then you’re back to sunshine. But I would say I And
00:43:49:04 –> 00:43:50:01
Rainbows, is that where you’re
00:43:50:01 –> 00:44:00:04
At with it? What do you want Butterflies. How about, okay, you don’t like when I say but rainbows I’d be, I just, rainbows are different. I have different interpretations of rainbows than what You see a rainbow.
00:44:00:09 –> 00:44:01:15
We’re gonna be on the earth a little
00:44:01:15 –> 00:44:45:25
Long. Is that what you’re saying? Well I just, you know, I just, they’re just, they’re happy. You know, I don’t talk about a social, you know, you know flagship platform, Bob, we’re way past that. Yeah, exactly. We’re way past that. But anyway, Idaho is due, it’s op opened April 1st for moose, sheep and goat. It’s due the 30th. Like Jason alluded a minute ago, if you choose to apply for the sheep, moose, and goat, it’s a one and done. That’s all you can do. Except for the secondary draw or leftover stuff later on. It’s just a drawing odds. Regulator. Simple as that. If you don’t do the sheep, moose, and goat, the deer, elk, antelope draw will come out with a deadline of June 5th. You can do all three of those, or one, two, or three of those. It’s, it’s just the biggest thing you gotta weigh out. It’s speaking of expensive state. That’s $185 license. John, with a three day fishing, I might add that you’re a Fishman and
00:44:45:25 –> 00:44:48:23
You get to choose the three days. Right now it’s like you
00:44:48:23 –> 00:44:50:11
Can plan a weekend and
00:44:50:13 –> 00:44:54:28
Then you could call your employer and say, I’m gonna be fishing on these three days and go for
00:44:54:28 –> 00:45:00:24
Sturge. You’ve been talking about going with Jen and getting away for taking your boat out away. Head to Idaho. Idaho, find
00:45:00:24 –> 00:45:31:27
Something and you wanna talk about waste. How many, how many general deer tags do you think I’ve purchased in the state of Idaho, let alone for family, my boys. Exactly. Just to have the backup plan. Yeah. Okay. And then never entering their state. Never launching lead at all whatsoever. Not hurting a single thing. Straight up funding their department, you know, in the name of conservation. It is not, you can around it by saying let’s donate a little. No. Like you can get around it mentally. Yeah. But it, it is no joke when you start involving family. Yeah.
00:45:32:12 –> 00:46:04:01
Well you’re paying $185 as a prerequisite hunting license, $10 access, depredation fee. Then you’ve got a 46, we’ll call it dollar application fee for sheep, moose, and goat. Then, then they tack on an online convenience fee. So you’re in it about 325 bucks dollar fundable to apply for moose. Cheaper goat. And that’s plus or minus. But it’s very close to that. I like it depends on if you pay in person versus online. Because you can, you, you can, if you’re driving through Idaho, you can go pay in person somewhere and they don’t charge you quite as much.
00:46:04:08 –> 00:47:03:23
Yeah. But it is nice. It is nice. They have 10% of the, of the tags can go, go, can up to 10% of the tags can go to non-residents. And so we have like up to 10 tags for sheep in Idaho. And a lot, a lot of times we’ll meet our quota. Yeah, we do usually a lot of, a lot of years it’s nine. It just depends on the overall quota. Rockies and Callies. And so anyway, what a, a, a, a great state with relatively good odds. It’s hard to discern what the odds really are. Yeah. You know, you’re in with the residents until we meet our quota and then no more non-residents or pole. Yep. And, and so, but we do think it’s worth it for guys that are applying for sheep or want to get a sheep. Yeah. Apply for sheep. You can’t do the moose and goat as Adam talked about, or the special limiteds for deer, elk, and antelope. And so anyway, you can still have your over the counter and you can still do that. Doesn’t, doesn’t pertain to that. But, and then apply for sheep or do whatever else you’re gonna do. Moose. I’ve killed a moose up there. We’ve been applying for, for sheep aggressively depending on the year. That’s what I also like. No point system. Yeah.
00:47:04:05 –> 00:47:28:29
Just like New Mexico. If it’s feeling cramped or too much of my schedule, whether it’s money or schedule, just sit it out. You’re not missing out on anything. You know, it’s, it’s hard to, you know, you might have FOMO but hey could save 3 25 bucks sit out. Right. Yep. But, and hey, I’m guilty of that as anybody. Jason and I both are sometimes gets toward deadline. Yeah. I’m not doing that this year. I’m gonna do, you know, something else. Yeah. Go try. Sitting out of New Mexico, Jason.
00:47:29:15 –> 00:47:32:09
No, it’s hard. Even in a drought year I’m in for everything.
00:47:32:13 –> 00:47:55:03
Exactly. But everything’s everything for Idaho. These three species, sheep, moose, and goats broken down into March. Issue again, the deadline’s April 30th. So it’s upon us just like Wyoming. The one difference, I guess I will point out on Wyoming sheep, moose goat bison is they moved their deadline to April 30th for, for the main reason to approve their permit numbers and have their commission meeting. There’s
00:47:55:03 –> 00:47:57:09
Quite a bit to point out unfortunately. Yeah, yeah.
00:47:57:11 –> 00:48:14:05
There is. And, and that, that’s gonna be the 22nd, 23rd of April. Those permit, permit regulations, proposed regulations and permit numbers, numbers are all on their website and does look like they are going to have a random draw tag for sheep and a few for moose
00:48:14:05 –> 00:48:15:25
Unit and unit five and a few for moose.
00:48:15:27 –> 00:48:33:03
Yep. Three and you know, watch, see if that holds, but you can wait, you can wait to apply after that if you’re in the 25 plus point, point your point tier for non-residents, you’re obviously in the damage range that you can, you can apply for something and it’d be be wise to look at those permit numbers or call us if you’re interested.
00:48:33:08 –> 00:48:39:09
This is something we just can’t put in print because it comes out so late. Yeah. And they, and then it’s not even ratified. Well and
00:48:39:09 –> 00:49:00:15
They, even if you, you, if you’ve noticed, they’ll, they’ll come out with a hump planner in January, February for elk and then these other species in in say January, February. And then they’ll change that even by now when they get an idea of what permit numbers are gonna be. There’s some sheep numbers. They had the initial one resident, one non-resident plant. Well now they’re cutting the tag to one and it’s going to resident
00:49:00:16 –> 00:49:10:15
And one of ’em changed before our very eyes. Yes. And he is just like, and then you go into print with one trying to be right on the cutting edge and, and you just slightly off and it’s just frustrating.
00:49:10:15 –> 00:49:29:21
Yeah. It’s frustrating. So in the future we may just, we’ll talk about that. We may just print everything. There’s gonna be a lot of emphasis placed. What they really need to do for elk, they need just move their application period to may with the deer now, I mean they love to get the non-residents applying for elk first. ’cause they’ve always been in January, they used to do the draw the end of February and you’re out and done. Now you, you
00:49:29:21 –> 00:49:30:12
Front the fees. What
00:49:30:12 –> 00:49:37:12
Do you think they do with those fees? Yeah, now it’s like four months and, and there’s hunts on there for elk that, that weren’t even available for you to apply for.
00:49:37:20 –> 00:49:42:04
Very egregious John. So what do you think of that? Egregious, amusing people
00:49:42:21 –> 00:49:48:21
You know, and, but hey John EI don’t know that there’s a lot of time the government isn’t abusing people. You
00:49:48:21 –> 00:49:49:17
Know, it’s just a,
00:49:50:06 –> 00:49:56:01
Well people abusers, it’s kind of a, it’s, it’s kind of a game of how much can we get out of the
00:49:56:01 –> 00:49:56:13
Government. John,
00:49:57:00 –> 00:50:21:17
How much can we, where do we push in some of these states? You know, you could be argued everybody’s breaking limits a little bit different on how much am I willing to pay to play in your state. Every state it feels like trying to push that limit. And then they all probably watch each other, you know, understandably, you know, they know what other states are doing, you know, we know they brought it up. So it’s tough. It’s unfortunate but you know, Hey I’m glad I have a lifetime hunting license.
00:50:22:06 –> 00:50:24:09
Okay. Okay. Okay.
00:50:26:00 –> 00:50:26:27
I just sneaked that in there.
00:50:27:19 –> 00:51:10:01
Alright. You’re also gonna have to apply for Kansas. If you wanna go to Kansas in 2026. Get a point this year. It’s pretty cheap. I wanna say it’s $27. Yeah. Anyway, grab you a point off you go. And then you’ll be able to a hundred percent get in next year. You can draw everything with one point. Have real odds in the publication. So you can also as a member go on and see our emag. You can also go on and see our online odds. I think the simplest best out there, it’s just, it’s just awesome. Minimum point queries, things like that. So anyway, I wanna throw out some ads, but I don’t know if these companies would endorse our opinions. They’re so aggressive today. Today, today we’re on the edge. So anyway, we’re gonna, how about this, how about we’re gonna go ahead and throw an ad out for our new epic tripods. Alright,
00:51:10:08 –> 00:51:12:00
So we launched our new tripods at, we launched
00:51:12:00 –> 00:51:12:25
Our tripods
00:51:12:25 –> 00:51:34:10
At least. Yeah. So yeah, we’ve had tripods what for a year now. And they’ve been awesome. They’ve been, I mean it’s kind of one of those things. They’re incredible. You know, you, you look at tripods a lot of times you don’t think it’s something that’s terribly important or whatever. I just need one. But there’s a difference between a good tripod and a bad tripod. And we all know that it’s something we use probably of hunting equipment
00:51:34:17 –> 00:51:35:19
Every day for three months.
00:51:35:20 –> 00:51:37:00
Yeah. You use it just significant
00:51:37:00 –> 00:51:37:07
Miles.
00:51:38:06 –> 00:52:08:03
You use it significantly. And so it was last year obviously been using ours all last year. We had some prototypes we were using even the year before. But our, our new ones last year I was using them and then when I was on an elk hunt, I had, my son was with me anyway, we were trying to find some elk. He had his own spotting scope on an old tripod that I had. He was trying to find some elk. It was, and he was having a hard time finding. So I’m like, here, let me find ’em for you real quick. And I got down there to use ’em and it was a tripod that I actually thought used to be good. And I got down there to use it. I’m like, this thing’s a piece of crap. The
00:52:08:16 –> 00:52:10:00
Always, because the word janky comes,
00:52:10:15 –> 00:52:13:28
We used to think three legs and a little bit of an extension on an neck was a good thing. Yeah.
00:52:13:28 –> 00:52:50:00
You know? And I was like, oh my gosh, this thing sucks. I was just so used to how smooth and nice and, and I don’t know our awesome. Ours is. And so anyway, yeah, we’ve had ’em for a while and a lot of guys, we’ve sold a lot of ’em, haven’t had any come back. I mean, no complaints. Like it’s been, it’s been awesome. Guys really love ’em. So, but there’s always things that we could change or upgrade or wanna do with them. And so this year we did come out with a big change, I guess two big changes that we did. The first one being we came out with a new size. So we now have, we’ve added the max tripod to the epic line
00:52:50:00 –> 00:52:57:09
And size would initially make you think height, right? Correct. Yeah. But this would be the same height as the other one. Yes. But it’s beefy. Yep.
00:52:57:11 –> 00:53:11:03
It’s still, it’s still the same height and everything as the ultra, but it’s awesome. It’s just, when you’re talking about the size, it’s just that it’s a 32 millimeter on the first tube. So just that extra little bit of diameter on it, it’s really gonna help with the wind.
00:53:12:01 –> 00:53:27:27
Wind and heavy, heavier optics, you know? Yeah. Bigger, bigger spotting scopes. Especially if you are using them with the center post up at all. Yeah. And or BTX or something like that. Or, or set of big eyes of any kind. Yeah. That’s, that’s what this is for. To help, help keep hydro vibration down. Keep her steadier. Yeah. That’s really all, it’s,
00:53:27:27 –> 00:53:34:12
It really it. I mean imagine Devin, okay. You don’t even extend the neck. Yeah. All you have is the legs so that thing’s steady. Oh
00:53:34:12 –> 00:53:40:18
Yeah. For him it’s probably fine, honestly. Yeah. If you, if you’re a call it, you know, five and a half foot,
00:53:41:01 –> 00:53:41:07
No
00:53:41:19 –> 00:53:43:19
Not the neck down standing on a rock.
00:53:46:09 –> 00:53:48:28
I love teasing him dog on up. Alright.
00:53:48:28 –> 00:54:06:15
But, but yeah, it’s, so instead, you know, our ultra tripod, it’s 28 millimeters, so it’s a good size on the first. And when I’m talking about that, it’s that first leg that comes off of where you attach the head. It’s a 28 millimeter, so a good good medium size. And then our, our light tripod’s 24. So it kinda gives you an idea of just those size differences in those
00:54:07:02 –> 00:54:07:22
Percentage.
00:54:07:28 –> 00:54:15:09
And then how much did it change weight? I think it was like right outta a bound, wasn’t it? From the less from the ultras, less to the max. Just almost, yeah. And I 15 ounces or something.
00:54:15:17 –> 00:54:29:05
I think it’s pretty amazing. When we first came up with this idea, we’re like, let’s do a truck tripod and just have it beefy and substantial. And it came in at 4.7 pounds. It’s still a light tripod
00:54:29:05 –> 00:54:30:09
With the head. Yeah. With
00:54:30:09 –> 00:54:31:05
The head. With the head.
00:54:31:05 –> 00:54:33:04
It’s, it’s still one you would throw on your pack. Yeah,
00:54:33:07 –> 00:54:33:28
Pack around. It’s
00:54:33:28 –> 00:54:36:24
So you day Love it. I love it too. It’s, versus
00:54:37:01 –> 00:54:39:16
Click on the ultra real quick three
00:54:39:23 –> 00:54:41:01
3.8 pounds. Three
00:54:41:01 –> 00:54:41:21
Eight. So yeah,
00:54:41:21 –> 00:54:42:12
For the ultra, so
00:54:42:13 –> 00:54:44:27
So you’re four seven versus three eight. And
00:54:44:27 –> 00:54:50:22
It’s a little, it’s a little bulkier too, but, but yeah, you can decide. But I mean it’s, it’s, we’re
00:54:50:22 –> 00:55:12:01
Gonna have, it’s the most common tripod will be the one we had ultra and we, and we ordered heavy on that. We ordered heavy on al all but, but, but heavier on that. But I think part of it too is this new quick release head. Yeah. Yeah. The Arca Swiss with quick release. Like, like I, I mean when you’re, I don’t know, I wear the skin off my fingers some days, you know, on and off, on and off, on and off. You
00:55:12:01 –> 00:55:22:07
Know what I mean? And I think we all use spotting scope glass, you know, binocular, spotting scope binoculars. Like back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. At least I do all the time.
00:55:22:07 –> 00:55:23:29
Look at the Viking download. Your grades
00:55:24:09 –> 00:55:25:21
Is graphic. What do mean? You haven’t seen that?
00:55:26:02 –> 00:55:26:09
No.
00:55:27:16 –> 00:55:27:25
Speaking of
00:55:27:25 –> 00:55:28:16
That’s Bigfoot
00:55:28:16 –> 00:55:28:24
With
00:55:29:00 –> 00:55:30:24
Speaking of manscaping, he needs a little bit.
00:55:30:27 –> 00:55:33:07
That is hilarious. I mean, geez, John,
00:55:33:22 –> 00:55:35:11
Is that anatomically correct?
00:55:35:20 –> 00:55:52:21
It is. So when you go, when you go our store on Epic outdoors, you, is that an odor? Go look at John. John just loves to throw this stuff in. He needs more to do in life. I mean, we’ve got a viking this you have a Viking shows you who, who uses our tripod?
00:55:52:21 –> 00:56:01:11
This tripod is big enough. Real man. If you’re six five, you can glass standing up with these tripods, not the light, but the other two easily. It’s awesome.
00:56:02:09 –> 00:56:06:01
Yeah. The light tripod is what Adam and I, we would take sheep on. He say
00:56:06:01 –> 00:56:06:10
It’s so good.
00:56:06:13 –> 00:56:24:11
He would replace our ghetto. Yeah. Even if vi would use it. Oh my gosh. The conquering land. But anyway, and the, and again, the the head nothing’s changed as far as the fluidity. Yep. The smoothness of our fluid head. It’s unbelievable. It’s unmatched. I mean seriously unmatched. Yeah. The serious hunters in the west are using our
00:56:24:11 –> 00:56:41:07
Tripod. Yeah. Very discerning our ourselves. If it wasn’t right, we wouldn’t want it either. I mean, we’d, we’d have perfected it a lot better or we wouldn’t, it’s not like, Hey, this’ll work, let’s just send it out. ’cause no, we’re, we’ve used, I don’t know how many tripods having a pile in my house. So many, some ’em have janky legs that come out and fall out. I
00:56:41:07 –> 00:56:42:22
Would love to sell you guys some tripods.
00:56:42:24 –> 00:56:43:13
I would too. John,
00:56:43:17 –> 00:56:58:07
I’ve got, so the, the truck tripod we were talking about that. Yeah. There’s a Zeis member that this tripod Bronson that we had that you would put the old S on. Oh yeah. Remember that? And it was like, I think it was like a Zeiss tripod or whatever it for let’s call it a 14 pounder. I don’t know what
00:56:58:09 –> 00:57:00:27
It’s like a surveyor’s tripod basically. Yeah. I
00:57:00:27 –> 00:57:08:11
Mean that’s what’s talking about. Yeah. It’s not that, it’s still a usable hunting tripod. Yeah. Even though it’s the max. I think you’d want ’em both.
00:57:08:15 –> 00:57:11:23
They’re all in stock too. I mean, we got, everything’s ready to go. An
00:57:11:23 –> 00:57:16:12
Affordable, remember pricing Jo Josh? We’re talking 5, 9, 9 for the biggie. Yeah.
00:57:16:12 –> 00:57:20:03
And that’s the combo. That’s the combo. That’s not just the legs. That’s the leg in the head.
00:57:20:08 –> 00:57:21:09
It to the plate. You’re not gonna
00:57:21:09 –> 00:57:25:24
Find, you’re not gonna find a price like that on a tripod like this anywhere. I I I
00:57:26:02 –> 00:57:28:06
You you won’t. But, but this you’re not. Yes.
00:57:29:01 –> 00:57:44:01
And that’s what, that’s what we wanted. So, so that Max, just so you know, it comes with the ultra head. We only have one quote unquote big head. Big head is the ultra head. It’s gonna be on the max or or the ultra. The light has its own head, but they’re both quick release. They all have the same quick release lever on ’em.
00:57:44:07 –> 00:57:51:27
We should do a package with the ultra legs and max legs and, and the one head because Excuse me. You need both. Yeah.
00:57:52:01 –> 00:58:06:29
I had guys that wanted the ultra head. Let’s call it. Is there one there? There’s two heads. We, for me, one and the heavy head. And I’ve had guys want the, the more stable rated head on the light legs. Yeah. Wanna mix and match that. And we would do that. We would do that. Oh
00:58:06:29 –> 00:58:11:28
Yeah. Yeah. We, we, they don’t come with them. It’s just the legs or the head. We, we will throw it in the box with you however you want. So you can
00:58:12:18 –> 00:58:15:24
Match might be slightly more. So the light tripod combo would
00:58:15:24 –> 00:58:16:24
Weigh more be 2 99.
00:58:17:06 –> 00:58:36:07
Yeah, yeah. You know, you’re be slightly more pricewise but, but not much. And then 4 99 for the middle, let’s call it the ultra, the most common for a six. All for five Viking only. What, what John’s little emojis for the wind. Like the two breath wind or what, what is it? Like this. And then the max has the triple
00:58:36:20 –> 00:58:36:27
Or
00:58:38:00 –> 00:58:46:16
Hurricane or cedar city wind. You’d have to go with the max. If you’re down in St. George, you use anything you want. You could even rest it on a rock. Whatever you do down there.
00:58:47:00 –> 00:58:59:06
But hey, and even the, we didn’t talk about this, but the window mounts went to the quick release as well. Yes. A window, window mountain. Same, same new. The light revamp of that, the light head with the window mount crook release on that too. So yeah. And that a good
00:58:59:06 –> 00:59:05:24
Time. Arca Swiss and not our plate. Not a square plate. Not something unique to Epic. This is an ACA Swiss all ACA Swiss plates will work. Yep.
00:59:06:12 –> 00:59:20:24
And we’ve also got, now’s a great time. We’ve got all of our, our accessories in on stock. In stock too. So make sure you know you’re gonna need a vinyl clamp this year. Just go ahead and get it. Or some of the phone holders. We’ve sold a lot of those and they’re, they’re pretty
00:59:20:24 –> 00:59:33:00
Amazing. They’re awesome for hunting alone or even in groups. Just with your phone this day. I mean, John, let’s keep it real. You’re the art director graphic guy. Yeah. We’ve talked about phones for seems like four or five years now. They’ve been good enough. Good enough to
00:59:33:00 –> 00:59:33:04
Use
00:59:33:04 –> 00:59:44:28
Yeah. To just use for print quality. But I mean, you, you need one of those because, oh, we’ve all used janky trying to tip lean it up against your pack. This, this is so, this is so awesome. Put your phone in there. Jason can
00:59:44:28 –> 00:59:53:17
Use it. Okay. Okay. And, and it’s, it’s endorse can’t find my, can we get a, can we get a, I have so much gear. I Do you guys ever feel like you’re just engulfed in gear?
00:59:53:17 –> 01:00:00:01
Yeah, but the more gear you have that better chance, you’re gonna find something very similar that works. It’s, if you can’t find what you really
01:00:00:01 –> 01:00:26:17
Want, it’s true. But it go, I just go back to, I need to have a day where we just like, okay, today I am gonna find my gear and I’m gonna put one of these in my back, like my day hunt pack. You know what I mean? I just, you just go so hard throughout the spring, summer, fall anyway, you lose track everything. And I think it goes back to we’re a little older now and you acquire anything you want, you, you kind of justify it one way or another. And then you end up with a lot of crap here.
01:00:27:22 –> 01:00:29:17
No, it’s nice. They’re very helpful. Right John? Because I mean,
01:00:29:17 –> 01:00:30:23
I’ve got one in each pack. Like
01:00:31:07 –> 01:00:37:06
So John, when you’ve, when you’ve used yours, do you flip it around and use the good camera on the back or do you use this little selfie camera?
01:00:37:13 –> 01:00:43:22
No, I use the good camera and again, I use my Apple watch to see where it’s pointing. Okay. And so I’m sitting behind the
01:00:43:22 –> 01:00:44:28
End. Guess we need an Apple watch.
01:00:45:25 –> 01:00:54:15
It’s so worth it. It’s so cool. Well you can see what the picture looks like and then just hit the self timer on your watch. Yeah. And it goes, you’re using the good camera on your phone.
01:00:54:23 –> 01:00:54:29
I just,
01:00:55:10 –> 01:01:03:05
I think what happened is people that society realized we were going away from watches ’cause we have phones, so they needed a way to get a watch back on our wrist.
01:01:03:17 –> 01:01:04:01
It’s amazing.
01:01:04:01 –> 01:01:06:17
Yeah. So they made it a computer. Yeah. Put it on our wrist. I
01:01:06:17 –> 01:01:11:10
Mean, which is crazy. I’m paying as much for a watch now is we did for computers back in the day, you know,
01:01:12:08 –> 01:01:12:15
But
01:01:12:20 –> 01:01:15:29
It’s faster than the computer you used to use. Probably. I mean think about Atari. Yeah.
01:01:17:00 –> 01:01:18:22
That is the Apple two C.
01:01:18:29 –> 01:01:29:03
It’s funny, Adam, you’re talking about propping up your phone. I remember Han I was on with my wife. I’m using her hair ties to tie my phone to a tripod to try to get it done. I
01:01:29:03 –> 01:01:29:27
Pulled rubber bands outta my,
01:01:30:06 –> 01:01:31:16
I’ve done everything imaginable.
01:01:31:16 –> 01:01:42:09
And when, you know the, like the old fifteens that had the objective lens things that flapping in the wind, I would always carry a bunch of rubber bands. ’cause you have to suck those to your objective lens on your 15th. ’cause when you’re glass and they’re flapping your vibrator,
01:01:42:09 –> 01:01:43:00
I just take, I take ’em
01:01:43:00 –> 01:01:55:21
Off. And so I would get the rubber bands out and try to janky put my phone around something and around a stick. And this takes all that out and it’s, and and it has a aca Swiss plate on the bottom of the Yeah, you found it. Phone adapter one, not the light one, not the little one.
01:01:55:24 –> 01:01:59:24
I don’t know that how this would work for guys that cut their toothbrush to save
01:01:59:24 –> 01:02:01:06
Weight. Well we’re, well
01:02:01:07 –> 01:02:02:13
That’s why we’ve got the light that’s
01:02:02:13 –> 01:02:23:16
Version the light. Okay. I’m just, whatever I’m done with this podcast, we’re over it. You want get something, call Epic Outdoors (435) 263-0777 or go to epic outdoors.com. You do it. Log in, get your member benefit there. And so if you’re not a member and you wanna log, just buy when you get there, do that thing. Price
01:02:29:09 –> 01:02:46:10

Member of Epic Outdoors, which is again, $150 a year and give you all the online access to our odds. The magazine consulting. 14,000 other good things. Alright, we’re over at Broon. It’s time for lunch.
01:03:06:19 –> 01:03:07:19
What else? John? Anything
01:03:07:25 –> 01:03:21:22
Done? Well, I just gotta say like doing some research and Jason’s, Jason’s ready to go to lunch. I I I’m just, but there’s been some things that I’ve discovered this week that all odds are not the same. They’re not created equal and you, it
01:03:21:22 –> 01:03:51:16
Matters. I have, I have matters where you get your odds. I had to answer, I had to answer to some other company odds Bronson was there when I was doing it, you know, I swear this is, they say for these odds and so I to screenshot and you know, and they said, you know, that this, you know, wasn’t, you know Yeah. This, you know, says they’re recovering from the oh 7 0 8 winner. Okay. Where it’s 2025. I I I, there was just some things and it’s like, but anyway, we, we work hard and we’ll answer your questions and that’s fine. But you’re right, John, to your point,
01:03:51:22 –> 01:04:20:03
It it is. And, and I mean, you kind of get what you pay for and, and we do this full time. It’s all we do. We’re passionate about it and like we put the thought into our odds and how they’re calculated. And you can get, you know, guys that, that think they’re mathematicians and it’s just not how the draw works. It’s not how things, you know, shake out and, and we are dialed into it. So our stuff’s is accurate, more accurate than anybody else’s, I would say.
01:04:20:06 –> 01:04:24:22
So we’re gonna go through some of these questions. There’s a lot of questions here that are interesting, but
01:04:25:08 –> 01:04:26:10
We’re already in now. Yeah. Let’s,
01:04:26:11 –> 01:04:27:21
Let’s, that’s a separate podcast.
01:04:28:16 –> 01:04:32:05
Maybe first next week, Jason, after you have a good weekend of doing whatever you’re gonna do.
01:04:33:02 –> 01:04:35:05
Well yeah, we going to do some things.
01:04:37:27 –> 01:04:39:15
Well, that sounded exciting, Jason.
01:04:40:07 –> 01:04:45:05
I mean, let’s call it a conference weekend. Let’s call a shed hunting weekend. Yeah, family outing.
01:04:45:05 –> 01:04:45:28
There we go.
01:04:46:07 –> 01:04:48:24
You know, we’ve got some snow out here. We’re excited about
01:04:48:29 –> 01:04:54:06
That. I’m hit, I’m gonna go hit the golf ball around a little bit. Maybe rock a little rust off. We’ll see. Yeah.
01:04:54:19 –> 01:04:57:10
I’m not gonna waste time doing that to be, I’m definitely gonna be out in the hills.
01:04:58:21 –> 01:05:05:11
I’m out in the hills just doing different things. Chasing a little ball. You might, I was gonna say, you might find a shed in the brush. Who knows. Hey,
01:05:05:26 –> 01:05:07:07
There have been some shit happened before.
01:05:07:09 –> 01:05:08:13
Epic happened before.
01:05:09:26 –> 01:05:16:17
Anyway, I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus. Been some sheds collected in and around there. Oh yeah. All right. Well,
01:05:16:24 –> 01:05:19:09
All right. Let’s call it a today. Have a good weekend. Yep. Yeah, we’re good.
01:05:19:19 –> 01:05:21:22
All right. Happy weekend everybody.
01:05:24:03 –> 01:06:13:19
