1 Swarovski NL Pure
The benchmark. Far and away the binocular serious big game hunters use the most and our personal favorite. The NL Pure's field of view is the widest in the alpha class, and it changes how a grid feels: you cover more hillside per look and animals appear in the frame you would have panned past with anything else. It is the most comfortable binocular to handhold, and it retains its sharpness and quality edge to edge. For hunters who want the best of the best, this is it.

2 Zeiss SFL
The recently revamped SFL line from Zeiss has us talking. While the 40mm objective has been around for a while and has always been premium glass, Zeiss recently released a 50mm objective SFL and it was a game changer. The quality glass, paired with the extra brightness you get from a slightly larger objective while retaining a comfortable handheld body, makes it an optic to really consider when looking at top-of-the-line binoculars.

3 Swarovski EL
The proven classic. The EL defined a generation of western glassing, and it has rarely been surpassed since. This binocular is comfortable, tough, and sharp. Hunters have happily used the same pair of ELs for a decade and will keep using them longer still. If you want to join the Swarovski family at a fair price, this is the way to do it.

4 Vortex Razor UHD
The workhorse. The Razor UHD is serious glass built tough, and backed by an unlimited no-questions-asked warranty. The image is deep into alpha quality, with great brightness and sharp edge-to-edge clarity. If you're hard on gear, this is the binocular you want. This binocular is slightly heavier than the ones mentioned above, but with an extremely reasonable price and the Vortex warranty, it's a binocular to consider.

5 Leica Ultravid HD-Plus
A classic, long-running favorite of western big game hunters. This binocular has been in the hands of serious hunters for years and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. If you want a simple binocular that will last, the Ultravid is for you.

6 Zeiss Conquest HDX
The smart money. The Conquest HDX is the mid-tier binocular we recommend more than any other, because it delivers most of the alpha experience where it actually matters: honest low-light performance, a clean bright image, and German glass, without the flagship price. For new hunters who want to start solid, or someone working their way up from entry-level glass, this is the binocular we recommend.

7 Vortex Diamondback HD
The starting point. The Diamondback HD is the binocular that gets more hunters into western glassing than anything else, and it earns that: clear, tough, and warrantied. This binocular is the most solid starting point for anyone dipping their toe into western big game, or trying to get into the hills on a budget. You will not find a better glass at this price point.
