where he's going and one day in the last 326 days he went to mickey d's he happened to tell us about it's so you're gonna ride him for the next 340 days a deadline day there's got to be somebody there that told him he was a good guy i don't know why he would go to mickey d's it just happened to be a deadline day and it was the place with a quick drive through there you go the line was the shortest i i'm guilty of that too so where did you guys go we hit subway oh there you go eat fresh that's right that's good anyway he called super excited couldn't thank us enough we we had uh posted and uh emailed podcasting email potential for yeah getting your name in the hat so anyway it's all about names and i had about a couple of tickets one super excited we're way excited to see how he does uh he'll be writing a story coming out in the epic outdoors magazine so the results are in how does

but that digress but that was a quick plug for stealth cam back to you devin um what have you found is one of the most effective techniques when you're when you've got a high traffic area or an area where you know something important is going to happen and you got activity you want to make sure you got the you got chrissing and crossing going on what's your set up on one tree kind of thing that was me yeah is that what friday two on one friday tell us about it what was was it over a salt lick i mean what was this gathering that was just a little meadow just a little meadow what did you call it a grove of trees this time yeah no i asked uh asked my girlfriend to marry me and figured you know i knew where i was going to do it had it carved in a quakey tree it's private property it's legal part of it right leave it alone all you haters you've done just totally legal part of it you

didn't finish the initials you weren't scratching i'm like how cool would it be to have it on video you know so i got cameras i got those new uh well i had some older g34s and then the 45 max so you did your own little test of all the different models i set up six of them in 15 minutes i wouldn't i was kind of in a hurry yeah just use settings maybe could have done slightly different triggers trigger distance and all that distance railbacks i put one on the crotch of a tree right by the tree and you could about see up my nose is about all you could see but at least you could hear me but the end result did you have some incredible pictures and video a couple good pictures that were video was you only need one or two it's like a like a money shot walking up you see me on a knee it worked out nice pretty impressive boss was there some models that didn't work as well as

others well but you're crisscrossing different they're pretty much all the same i just didn't do the distance the distance on video was not enough you missed your ex right what oh yeah i set up oh i thought i put a log there i'm like whoa sorry mr x is a proposal that is true i had my brothers my brothers helped me for a minute they're like you got to go right here and i said we'll put a stick right here i was like 10 feet over oh you were off center well the tree said marry me question mark and it had a heart and she walks up she's like this is this somebody's carved a heart and this one you know so i had to run over there where to the tree i missed show me the tree what are the odds really that was my great grandpa she had no idea so it was cool but the video you know it worked good that's awesome pretty impressive pretty impressive yeah we're good if you want to

see it's impressive we got a picture of it on our epic optics page if you want to see what we're talking about yeah i missed that awesome yeah they can be used for a lot of a lot of stuff home security systems in a pinch around the house for kids or you know you were wearing a sidearm i'm just wondering if you use that to coerce her real man proposing camo and wearing a sidearm or something like that i didn't even realize i was a little nervous you know i made sure the ring was in this pocket had the sidearm on the tree begs the question if she had said no what would have happened well he had one in the pipe it's just it all went well and it's uh it makes i don't mean to tell my story probably you or you either mine's boring way mine's nothing compared to that it you're well i've had a lot of alone

time and years to think about it i guess like i love this spot you know yeah it was i've known i was going to do it right there since i was a kid probably so that's awesome pretty awesome so how long ago did you carve in the tree the mary about a year year and a half it was like last june just about a year not the initials the first time i was running cameras last year you had the d in a heart or something like that you kind of knew maybe it would be her right because you've been oh yeah i knew i was better but you but you didn't do that until last week the final initials yeah sweet put the initials carve it in lock it in there you go if anything bad happens i'm cutting it down bad windstorm come up and it's gone it's gone and there's a new tree a new heart yeah well well okay let's see what you've been up to oh geez you've been shoveling shoveling yeah

why it's uh taking up what we call him a green thumb he's been doing some gardening and stuff some landscaping yeah i don't know about gardening but a little bit of landscaping really what for oh geez i guess for uh upcoming wedding too really who's winning no i also got engaged recently too this is there's something in the what something in the monster around here about a week before devon so yeah geez pretty amazing so we're teasing why because he's they get solid jobs and then the women women come in and want to tie him down i'm seeing a correlation there no she's got a pretty solid job too so maybe maybe it's worked the way around okay all right but the funny thing we're teasing why is yeah he's you know with this covet and stuff he's got to do outdoor uh well maybe it's not just because of that but doing the

reception or whatever that can be be called now in the backyard so you got you got some landscaping you can have more people there yeah exactly that is true i protest you're waiting for along together we're waiting for that line speak now or forever hold your piece we're gonna just i don't think she's good for you i'm here to protest we can bring in another 250 people here's a little gift in case you want to go ahead and go through with it so that's pretty awesome you guys you guys how did that go down tell us your little my little story yeah so i don't have any plugs for stealth cam but i can plug jason's wife's business there you go so anyways i kind of had something planned up around her hometown and then she ended up texting me the night before about 11 30 at night saying hey we're loaded up and headed to lake powell

big curveball yeah just her favorite really her favorite place on earth similar to similar to devon's metal and it's hardly ever i'm awake at 11 30 to see the text message they're leaving that night they're the next morning just said we're leaving the next morning going to powell we just decided do you want to come and you're like well this is kind of your birthday weekend yeah yeah so birthday weekend did the father-in-law know that you were going to propose that weekend he did not no no one had no idea but you had asked him right yeah i talked to him yeah the weekend before i'd already talked to him i asked kids were greased but so it was all he gave you he gave you the one eye did he lift one eyebrow and be like listen here son it was a i don't know i was pretty nervous going into it but it was actually pretty good pretty good talk i mean it was you have your sidearm

he's gonna be i went in unarmed archibald that's pretty good snakes lions bears you never know yeah i went on in on our unarmed anyway but so then she texts me that night tells me you know they're going to powell the next morning so i know the ring's supposed to show up at the office the next morning too and it's the arizona deadline of course too so and jason and adam they take off to a shooting school so he leaves the office unmanned basically just got me we had to do some brainstorming of the curveball at lake powell yeah so there i am like i'm a pretty slam so i tell her like i don't think i can make it over to lake powell and play it off like i don't think there's anything they can do and jason adam are gone i you know just can't handle it without all of us gone you know just like it needs me right now and i'm in a podcast room somebody's gotta be here anyways uh

ended up uh talking to her the ring showed up the office ended up kind of throwing a plan together with you know jenna and the girls here at the office a little bit what to do and headed over towards lake powell as i was calling her father and trying to get him say where are you guys gonna be camped how can i raid your camp set up some signs and 40 mile an hour we get any details and yeah it was just windy windy windy and anyways uh as i get over there i kind of you know six i of course before dark he kind of figured the wind's gonna die down and i end up sitting over there in my truck for about two hours just nervous as can be just well jenna says all you did was pace the office she's like i've never seen wyatt like this i i can say i haven't either well they're big moments boys i mean both of you both of you were a little bit out of your comfort zone for the last

two three weeks nobody should be comfortable asking women marion because that means it's happened too many times that's true that's right so anyways get over there and finally like we're it's got about an hour before dark and her dad texts me and he's like hey i just sent her out on a boat ride like now's your chance it's white cap and it's white cap and they're not gonna be gone like oh jeez so i drive down in there and get everything kind of kind of set up get the signs you're you're it's not just a sign on a sheet of paper this is you're putting them into the sand individual letters yeah and i've got hearts and big big letters got her she's their family there a lot of family there so i've got all them kind of helping me and we're just barely getting it all kind of situated and lined out and they texted like the water is just nasty we're coming back oh

you're like so you got to spell it right now because now you're you're gonna misspell something misspell her name yeah taping them together too so the wind just doesn't blow them away she's coming by i've got a dozen roses in my hand as she comes rolling up the dose the roses are just getting blown away i'm surprised there's anything but not just stems left you know like it was pretty bad but anyway she got the picture though yeah she rolled up in the boat she says that was the scariest boat ride of my life but by the way what's this sign yeah what yeah no so it worked out pretty good and then everybody on the beach everybody's cheering you on yeah even the people from the res next to us they were clapping and yelling for us i mean there's a lot of people on the beach that day and everyone was kind of sheltered probably because yeah they couldn't be on a

yeah yeah well you two guys are you're you're destined to have a lot of interesting moments from now on the large woman came out easy but i couldn't know what to say right now so but anyway congratulations thank you it's awesome yeah you're we like your gals and it'll be fun both of you talking before that's the other questions yeah they're talking before the bulk of the hunt so august dish i don't know when that is date exact but that's very soon get you going before you know you can't have an anniversary in the heart of hunting season no it's just not gonna do that jason no yours is the first week of august wasn't it yeah but i left august 10 i had yeah but that was a doll sheep hunt that doesn't happen every year no cell phone remember this is 96 no cell phone no in reach no nothing and she she couldn't believe that i left and never call her

for 10 days never called her you got married and left yeah i got married well married on the second i was hunting in the field on the 10th so you got to leave around the eighth or seventh anyway and she's like he left me he never called me and i'm thinking yeah there's no phones there's no landlines so anyway it's like why i was talking the other day of setting a precedence or something like that well it's a good press oh yeah what were you talking about you just follow on the little carter yeah oh don't do that do not do that why it's saying you know you never prepped me first anyway did you end up uh you ended up uh well you're gonna run trail cameras this last saturday what'd you end up doing i ended up up north shopping for a suit yeah because did he get a fitting he never warned me but she says i gotta shop for a suit in the next

12 hours exactly was that i had no idea that all this stuff would come along pictures it could all be done on my terms and anything like that but no i got told what to do the other day i'm like do i give in like does it set a precedence for the whole marriage and he asked in front of janna you know jason i'm just wondering do i give in or am i setting a precedent i'm looking at janna how much do i get pushed back when do you push back and when do you not i don't know i think you're doing good why welcome to the rest of your life you give in right now this early i mean is it is it like that forever let's talk about those things when janna goes to lunch with the girls she's not here now why do we have to do it in front of her geez pretty fun you'll do fine i i don't know did you guys tell them that you had some hunts lined up before you guys got engaged or are they helping you align

your hunting schedule for this fall i put miranda through two seasons already so she's she said they've kind of known she's solid both of them know that's good they know what they're getting yeah my wife didn't know but i mean we she asked if i was a hunter and i casually your story is yeah we've already gone over that i'm a hunter and a gatherer possibly i love to provide for my wife and kids i'm a provider i am a i provide that's how it went yeah when we talked about it it was either august or next spring yeah it's like it's time i tried to suggest that pretty much it's not gonna work yeah no it's either august in other words you held off as long as you were yeah it's it's either august or next spring and basically she said it's august yep and you said i said i get it i get it yes ma'am yes ma'am yes ma'am good good answer wow well congratulations it is good luck want to wish you

supposed to be better than the el's i guess i guess not necessarily better but and a step up a step up from the el's i guess that's the only way to put it el's are amazing but you're supposed to have a wider field of view they're going to come in the eight the ten and twelve by forty two power binos um nl pure that's what they're calling them different shape to their body supposed to be able to fit in your hands really well so a guy can hold them real steady and they also have a headrest thing that can plug right in that's supposed to help with stabilization as well probably on the 12 power i would say mostly i mean i can't imagine using stabilization with eight i don't even use that thing on the btx i don't know i think it'll be a personal preference don't you guys yeah you could put a rubber band all the way around and yeah just

lots of fun lots of change going on here um you know one thing as we're getting prepped for the fall one of the big purchases and things we goes through our mind hey we're in the truck what happens when you need it we're out of cell service all day you got to load your truck with gear load your truck with anything and everything but some you also have to have a truck to put gear in and that reminds me bronson is aaron bought a truck yet no and and what we talked about on that podcast a month or two ago three whenever it's been it was right when figuring he wouldn't have a truck till september 2nd when his first hunt is september 1st yeah and it would probably be borrowing your truck yeah or my dad's because you know dad has two and like i think you you know when you know dad's got a couple trucks you're

safe what you don't need to buy one no let's see and lots everywhere if you notice and are depleting okay and if you listen to our podcast did we not we predicted it we weren't yeah we were very in tune with the vehicle market let's see if he's made up may it's if he made any progress well the funny thing is the plan the funny thing is we've talked to other people i mean i think kevin call from arizona we all know kevin call hypo and outfitters he listened to that podcast he happened to be shopping for a truck yeah and so he reaches out because he hears aaron how methodical i'm gonna use that word different from another word methodical in his search dominating no there's another word

yeah so anyway he used all of aaron's knowledge and went and he found one in new mexico and bought it and you know returned and told us about it listen to the podcast found a steal of a deal on a 19 duramax bought it bought it and tells erin about it enjoying it and it's basically the same truck aaron's looking for i mean and aaron continues to use the wife's car okay let's call aaron see what the heck what his plan is

he could screen these now we've done this one too many times kind of like jeff hello hey i found a truck for you it's a 1970s high boy you ready high boy he's got 35s

it's been uh four months we're checking back have you got a truck yet no have you got a plan i don't my plans have all gone through the through the window they're all out what are they sold you or what's the deal what's trucks are at a premium right now oh there we go with this with the shutdown they're at the premium so yeah i'm so when when adam and i on the last podcast talked about made possibility that the lots would be empty in july ish are you finding did you think we were crazy at that time i didn't think you were crazy i'd been hearing the same thing but no it's true they're not empty no because you can go out there and find one oh you can find one with rubber floorboards yeah yeah like a base model or some or they just like say they're at a premium even the used ones now are fetching high dollars so i really shot myself in the foot yeah because they they there's no like

oh can you work with me well no i can't because i got four guys behind you that want the truck too so i really seems like we talked about all these problems seems like we've talked about these i did not no you did not well you guys they went without saying it was going to be my fault because i was tricky and it had to have everything exactly right and i'm not even being including including being priced at 10 000 below boat blue book no no and owned by a widow that never put it for will yeah owned by a widow garage no i'm not even driven four miles a month so now so what's your not so it's not your fault okay it's not your fault you don't own a truck so now let's move on what's your contingency plan what what's in this what's in the crosshairs maybe our listeners can help you find some maybe adam needs to buy a truck where are we at yeah if adam can

find one down there then yeah we'd be fine i got a power wagon right down here on the lawn still adam did buy a little toyota i know he's got three now so i'm sitting pretty good here we go there was the plan there's the plan he already knows the contingency plan there's no urgency if you want my help you need to provide a vehicle if you were if you were riding the bus to work up there every day i'll bet you'd get a truck found i probably would well what what do you narrowed it down to you still back to diesel chevy duramax is that i'm pretty hard i'm pretty hard on the diesel yeah we've already talked about the other guys that listened to the first podcast went out found the same truck you're looking for and they didn't have a problem buying it they just bought it they're closer to new mexico he found his in new mexico by the way

and he's a lot closer than i am to new mexico so he got the jump on me there's probably only one in north in the western u.s it's not i guess we're painting the picture that it's that bad it's not that bad if you have deep pockets you can go buy a truck he just get out he's got to have it's everybody's fault but aaron's totally with aaron no ebay doesn't exist it's part of my fault exist totally get it all right well if you remember my truck i keep them for a long time so i do kind of want to get something that i'm going to have for a while unlike you two that trade them in like okay you don't have to get angry you don't have to get one truck one truck of my car i've lost track but what i think is hilarious is brownson you you you look at the chevy zr2 aaron looks into the chevy zr2 he realizes that's the most amazing little truck that's ever been built you

buy one you love it you continue to love it you continue to own it aaron never buys one next step i need a new big truck need a new big truck we think about the power wagon we see the power wagon i've had a few a couple of them aaron says they're the most amazing big truck ever built in fact aaron thinks he would like to find one for himself so we each bought one we each bought one and aaron continues to look for one never buys one no truck now he's back to a chevy diesel which we've never owned in our life okay you're right no never owned it and uh aaron can't find one and kevin call and everybody else who listened to the first podcast has already bought one is enjoying it and pre-scouting and pre-scouting while i'm doing nothing if you guys would run a truck before the tires ran out or an oil change before you got a new one maybe you'd understand all the personal attacks

that happened to one truck that i just didn't fit us we had sciatic nerve problems they they didn't fit they didn't fit full-grown men that's all there is to it it just didn't fit right anyway but well we just wanted to call and get a report i didn't know how close we were i didn't i know it's a sensitive topic it is i know i didn't know what all the where all the hate's coming from but we'll start there's no hate you got a receiver hitch on that chevy malibu to hold it side by side down i guess i can do that get a four-wheeler rack on it i mean obviously that wasn't part of his contingency plan i guess i'll just leave the side by side on the mountain and then i can just drive down to it i guess leave it chained to a tree what are you going to tell what are you going to tow the boat with the tahoe wife's car is it four-wheel drive she's been oh yeah the tahoe is good to go

we always got that and i can tell the side by side with it and she can take them out but so we're the contingency but i don't i'm trying to buy a truck you're trying he's trying i hunted out of a ford taurus for a couple years so it can be done it was a great decoy oh yeah yeah it didn't even leak right rainstorms you slept in it was fine nobody even knew i was hunting you've given me hope we were always you just told everyone to look out for a chevy malibu now we were always told they make new trucks every day aaron they make new trucks every day just go buy they haven't for four months it's like the first time in history it is different time different times well good luck what now let's say you did buy a truck we were going to talk about some of the things that you put in your truck you know shovel handyman jack some of the different things

you know the inverters i don't know what are some of the things that you put in your truck i mean you're one of those detailed guys those jumper packs have been nice i've used them oh yeah you gotta have a jumper pack gotta have some chains toe rope aaron's big on the on the winch that he's got a front and a rear receiver hitch he just keeps it in the bed of his truck so you get stuck on the front put it up there yeah pull it out or you mostly for other people other people but other people you pull out but yeah that's good well on that when where do you where do you keep it like it's a short bed truck you know when i go out for the weekend i'll just put it in the receiver hitch in the front yeah when you're going on no i put it in the receiver hitch in the front yeah all right but it can go front or rear or anywhere yeah it's kind of nice kind of nice yep um

you gotta have a firearm you gotta have a firearm in there somewhere devon devon devon always packs a sidearm talked about his engagement picture he's wearing qu packing heat because he's on one knee and he's packing heat i saw that well i think it was to force her to say yes

anyway a little persuasion taking control of the situation sometimes you gotta do you gotta do commands authority that's right so starting this relationship off right well we'll check back with you but i i can't promise when it might be december because we're gonna get busy in the fall and if you don't have a truck then there'll be nothing to report but when you buy one i'd love to hear i'd love to hear about it how good a deal you stole it from somebody you stole it from somebody no i didn't get i'm gonna steal from anyone it's just probably a little unsuspecting grandma out there that's gonna get taken advantage of here in about two weeks when i want a front bench too that's kind of a hard thing to find a front bench well it's got six seat belts right that's what you're looking for it is but that's every little layer every layer though you

i've got is what i've got started off pretty good drew a couple of tags way back in february and it's been a dry spell well and it has been dry the last few months it's been dry outside dry which is kind of matched what you're unlike you carter you've got a six pack of deer tags six deer tags two antelope tags and an elk tag that's not even including my kids i'm done tapped out i mean i mean you're gonna have venison bottles stacked into your house i got i got kind of a random side note on this it has to do with hunting but so i compared photos from this year and last year at the same time where and the deer are way worse this year in and as far as development they look like they're two weeks behind and i don't know if anybody else is seeing that on your trail cameras yeah they they last year i had deer that were splitting four points and this year what looks

like another mature deer isn't quite there yet and it's just i'm just wondering if this dry i don't know anybody else seeing that or i haven't been grinding deer yet i have not found a buck on one of my i found a stag and a bunch of does okay okay well things are looking rough in a couple places it could be just the desert too where i was there was bucks with kickers everything four points uh where where squeeze me up in the meadow oh yeah magic meadow yeah i was at 9 000 feet yeah it's just a little different but kickers prove it where where are they kickers yeah i have it i have videos yes i can't everybody expects me to be totally transparent why it does it's like it and then why devin when you talk to them this is the family property you know where we're talking but i mean he doesn't even hunt it every year if you have a special deer once in a while
