This year's looking great. Nevada, there's going to be some giants. Utah, big bulls. Our expertise, Western Big Game, Canada, Alaska, Mexico, getting tags, getting hunts, buying hunts. Anything to do with Western Big Game.
Welcome to the Epic Outdoors podcast, powered by Under Armour.
Started off with our buddy Chris Peterson here in the house. Live from Cedar City, Utah. Epic Outdoors podcast. Maybe even played it at Toad's here. I don't know. I don't know if we can start this out with a love song. Yeah. Never knew how dark my world was. Yeah, it's not working very good. It's not, but Chris, I'm proud of you. This is awesome. Something new and different. Anybody want to go listen to more old Chris, you can download him on iTunes, can't you? Yeah. How about that? Chris Peterson, Cowboy Coming Home album, Stealing Heaven. You've also been doing a few, we'll call them gigs, this summertime. Yeah. Gig time. We've done a few in the renegade towns that are allowing that. Renegade that are. Yeah. Speaking of. Probably COVID-free environments in those little towns. Yeah. Speaking of the renegade places. Oh yeah? Where are we going? Well, I think you had some notes. Where?
What? Give me some. It feels like everywhere except for where we're at right now, which there's pressures being placed upon us daily to mask up. But everywhere we go, we're looked at. Weird. Okay. Case of point. You mean like no shoes, no shirt, no mask, no service. Okay. I'm not going to say what town in Nevada, but it was Nevada. Okay. And this is nothing against Nevadas. We love Nevada. We love all Nevada people. We love all Nevada animals. We're talking about. No. Alamo. Or they're near. Ash Springs. It was further south. So there's a few establishments in Nevada that sell firecrackers of a little bit more exciting variety. Okay. The Rez. So it's been a, my boy, he loves, him and his buddies save up their money and they make a pilgrimage down there. My wife this time took them down there. Okay. They ran down, did a smash and grab.
Actually, they waited two hours in line because you can't. It's masked up, 105, 10 degree heat and you're one of these and two of these at a time. Well, they get it and they come back and they, on the way home, they stop at Walmart. Okay. And the law is in Nevada, Jason. You wear a mask. Right. And he, they just stopped literally to like grab something to eat. You're talking Walmart in Mesquite. Okay. You nailed it. Okay. Keep going. I don't know. I guess you had heard the story. Okay. Keep going. Yep. And elderly gentleman approached him and just grabbed him by the collar. Says, do you have grandparents? Do you have a grandma and grandpa? And Ty's like, well, yeah. Says, you need to be thinking about them more. Where's your masks? And he lined them out for five minutes. Come on. Right there in the store. And they didn't know. You know, they're from Cedar City.
They just, their hopes and dreams are coming true with a trunk full of fireworks. And I know it's the law. I have a hard time. Somebody put their hands on me or my kids. I have a hard time. We got lit up. Says, you guys are disrespectful. And then it's, there's some truth to that. I get it. Wow. Okay. That's where we're at right now. So. I have a hard time with it. I'm going to say it out loud. Quite frankly. You know. I don't even know if we're in real pandemic numbers. But having said that, I don't really feel like these masks, Bronson. We're talking people are wearing shirts. Porous shirts. Right? I like. Huh? I had Jeff Rowe on the podcast a few weeks ago. And he designed, he had a self-designed mask. That was, you should post a picture of that. I'd have to find it. I haven't seen a screenshot. We got it. It was. It was the kind of mask I want to wear. If I have to wear one.
Well, we're supposed to be wearing them. Even here in Utah, they're encouraging. We're making fun of a little out of it. It's just. It's not my style. We're all stir crazy. We want to go. Did see a lot of the guys wearing their Huck gear fishing masks. Which is. I ordered a couple of them. If I have to go somewhere and they're okay with wearing material that doesn't necessarily work, I'm going to wear that. You know. I have a problem. This is what I feel like. And I don't know what we're. You know, I'm not a conspiracy theorist guy. I always laughed at friends of ours. Jeff John. Who's a conspiracy. Red Dawn. They're always thinking that people are out to get them. And that there's crazy things happening out there. Okay. A couple things. But remind me. Okay. You go where you're going. Okay. So. And there are some crazy things. Now that I've got. That's where I was going.
Now that I've got. For example. You wanted to know which tires I was running. The tire company here in town was gracious enough to give me a steal of a deal on a set of tires. They were opening up a new store. Appreciate them. They're awesome guys. We've known them for years and years. Fire Destinations. The MT Mudders. They're an aggressive tire. You're like saying. Hey. We were talking about them yesterday. That versus something else. I've got a Trochem truck. Trying to get them on. Right. I asked you what one it was. Verbally. I. On my computer. Googled it. Went on their website. Checked them out. All that. Made an order. Okay. You didn't type it into your phone. Only into my computer. At work. My work computer. Okay. Not into my phone. And what came up. This morning. This morning. Facebook ad says Firestone Destinations. Full on tread the MTs. And I'm like. They're listening.
I am so tired of getting ads of stuff. And didn't you guys. Verbally. Yeah. Didn't you guys do it. Kids do it in school. Yeah. Test it out. Talk about Lysol. Something they never would talk about normally. Pretty soon Lysol ads come up. How's this happening? Do they not know everything we're doing? And think about this. We're on airplane mode. We have our mapping system up. Let's call it Onyx. And on airplane mode. That thing knows within a foot where you're at. Find my phone app. Whatever it is. Do they not know everything we're saying. Doing. Where we're at. And maybe even using our camera to see our facial expressions. I'm just saying. But we're not. Or record conversations. But we're not conspiracy theorists. We're not. But I'm telling you. The older I'm getting. And I'm watching this. As let's say a certain party. Political party. Seems to be shutting down economies. On purpose.
Possibly. To not get Trump reelected. I'm just saying. I think some of that might have something to do with. Some of these restrictions. Because if the economy comes back. He's getting reelected. And I'm just saying. And the more older I'm getting. The more Facebook ads pop up with Firestones. I'm starting to wonder about everything in life. Everything. At lunch today. We're going to go have lunch. And we're going to the pawn shop. And we're buying flip phones. Well or even. I think they make phones. But now it probably has new age technology. That still knows everything you're doing. Even though they're flip phones. Right. They make new flip phones from what I understand. Can we just. Let's just in reach. Text each other. Well what I was thinking. No. You know that. Chiz really knows where you're at. Turn off. Don't send the locations with each message. Okay. It says they're turned off.
But what does that really mean? And I'm just saying Bronson. Within 500 feet. I'm just saying. Any more. I'm just like. I want to go back to. We don't have phones. What about 1995? I want to go back to that cave. That Archibald's got us rations in. Somewhere between here and the Grand Canyon. That's general proximity. We don't know right where it is. But somewhere. Do we have to go into a cave? I mean. Again. Okay. Think about this. We got new age trucks. The trucks have a little antenna on the top of that truck. What does that do? It's a satellite. It sends. Highway. Country. It sends everything to your truck. It will unlock your truck doors. How about that? ESPN radio. From an app. If I can unlock my truck doors. How does this. Do you not think they listen to what's going on inside your truck. The conversations. I'm just saying. Chris. What's your opinion? I think.
I think they have the capability to. Not that they always do. Well. I used to think. Who wants to know what 1400 million people are saying and doing. But maybe there's some way to record what these 1400 people are doing. And then. Million people. And then. They can go retrieve that or whatever. But I don't know. I'm just saying. Like you see in the movies. They're not our friends. That's what I feel like. I feel like they're ready. Take your money. By the way. Your money created all this technology. By the way. We're going to use this technology against you. But. We're not. Conspiracy.
And. And. And. We love masks. So. There we are. Right. Three wheelers. Masks. Anything and everything. I don't know. So. Change the subject. Let's go to a happy note. Had a guy by the name. Jason. Let's call him D. Period. He drew the super tag for antelope in Wyoming. Wow. Today? Yes. You were on the other line real quick. They're making calls. Yes. He drew it. Awesome. And he says. He says. You're making it up. You're having an effect on us hunters. I'm like. Okay. Here we go. He's going to say that I. Making it. Ruined the odds. That he can't draw his general deer unit four years in a row. Possibly. Possibly. Right. But no. Went the other way. He says. The first thing I thought of.
Is. Okay. I've got a tag for truck chasers. And the second one is. I've got an antelope tag. Jason doesn't have. Yeah. That's right. And the third one is. Jason might be jealous. Okay. I want to dispel all of this right now. Brownson. Chris. This was in teasing and in jest. It started that way. I'm not an antelope connoisseur. But there was a podcast. Chris. You could dig it up. It's there. It's just like stuff doesn't die. Could be used against you. I remember the. You made the statement. I am a trophy antelope. Okay. Yeah. In jest. In jest. The opening line. In jest. In the podcast. In jest. Is. I'm a trophy antelope connoisseur. In jest. Because you all are making me into one. And it's getting old. I don't like it. I really don't like them. I don't have tons of respect for them. Because they do chase my truck. But you know. I had one the other day. I had the other one the other day.
About smoked me. He. He. He crossed the road. Bronson. You were with me. Oh. Why is this? Nevada? Yeah. And I was. I didn't think anything of it. He crossed the road. And you're like. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. And he came back across the road. Ten feet off the end of my truck. Forty five mile an hour. Wrong? Yeah. I wasn't with you on that one. Maybe I was asleep. Was that the time me and John were asleep? Uh huh. Yeah. It might have been. I don't know. I just remember the other day. The days run together when we're scouting. By the way. We've been out scouting. What are we seeing Bronson? We're seeing triple digits plus ten. Or fifteen. Broken Diet Coke cans. I had Diet Coke cans in my truck. Grabbed the. Grabbed. In the cab. In the cab. Grabbed it. The jostling next. The cans jostling against each other. Busted one. Bucko. Blow it up. Oh yeah.
John says he's had them blow up in the bed of his truck. In the. With the black surround. In the headliner stuff. Yeah. You know. I know we can't totally trust the thermometers on your trucks. Sometimes you start them. You know. You're idling. It picks up engine heat. Whatever. But. The highest I've ever recorded was this week. And I was driving for hours. You know. All day long. I mean. I'm moving. Air is moving. I'm going 45 miles an hour. Yeah. And it's between 111 to 113 all the time. And then it went to 114. I took a picture. I went to 115. Four minutes later. I took a picture. I went to 116. I sent it to me. I took a picture. I sent it to everybody. I'm like. I'm tapping out. I remember you said. Uncle. Uncle. Uncle. Uncle. I'm like. You're like. Well this place. You know. And you were going up to said spring or whatever. And you're like. This place is all washed out. And I'm like.
Oh great. So you guys should walk that quarter. Or three quarters of a mile to get to the water instead of camera. And you're like. Well no. No. I didn't. I didn't do that. There's no sheep there. It was 2.30 in the afternoon. No. You're not doing it. And. And I didn't even know if it was going to have water when I got there. It was just one of those. I need to be there at daylight. And I could have done it. About rolled my truck. Got in a pickle. Doing a 14 point turn. Turn around in a wash. It's like 15 foot wide with boulders that turned into boulders because of a flash flood. Anyway. It was a road until it wasn't a road. And yeah. Creased my bumper. Backing up. Then I had some guy from Vegas. I don't know. People from Vegas the next day. Hey. Thanks for blazing the trail up there. Oh yeah. You know who you are. Yeah. You even. Initial was AK. You even took pruning shears.
Just to save the scratches on the side. I'm trying to. But we took out the whole rear bumper. Yeah. Well at least parts of it. Well and I'm. When it's that hot. Frankly you can't. I don't care who you are. You're tougher than me if you can ride your side by side all day long. From 2.30 in the morning when Carter and I left. We're in different units. 2.30 in the morning. Trying to beat the. You can't do it and get home at night. You can't. I don't. You can't do it. No. It's not possible. Your machine puts off an extra 5. 10. 20 degrees when they get hot. I was in the talon going 55. And it's like a hair blower on high and hot. Right up your nostrils. For two hours. I mean. And I'm going to say. Yeah. I told you this. I don't care. I'm very comfortable with my inadequacies. Oh no. Where is this going? Well. No. So the next. When was it? So that was a. We almost pull.
You almost pull an all nighter when you do that. Yeah. Because by the time you get home and you go to bed. And it's like 21, 22 hours. And for guys in the mid 40s. Those days are over. Those days are a long time ago. So the next day. Wake up. Had some ball games with kids. You did stuff. Family. Whatever. Ball games. Travel. Back to St. George. Come back to Pierce. Some more ball games. Sitting in the sun. I'm finally home at about 5.30 that night. AC. I'm laying down. I'm watching TV. And I guess I go to sleep. 5.30. I wake up. And it's one of those that you wake up. Oh. I wake up. It's morning. Or look at my clock. It's 11.30. Pia. And I'm wide awake. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to come to work. You got six hours. I did. I did. Six hours of sleep. 5.30. Go down for a nap. My wife and daughter left the room. They said I was snoring like a champ. And they just left me be. Went down.
They went down. Watched a movie. I think they were. They were still wrestling. They were going to bed. And I'm like. I've got a problem. Yeah. That's a bad feeling. This is on a. What was that? Saturday night. 11.30. I'm fully rested. And it's pitch black. There's nothing to do. Anyway. Wow. That's what getting old does. I guess. I don't know. You do one day of in the heat. Four days recovery. That's right. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm talking about. Deficiencies. If the AC were to go out in this office. We'd be sitting in our truck. Because the AC never goes out in our truck. I mean once in its life. Whatever. And then you sell it. Move on. We need to play the old Toby Keith song. Not as good as I once was. That's as good once as I ever was. Yeah. Once. Hey. What about these new Ford Broncos coming out? I don't know. It's not even worth calling Aaron.
But for all you guys that we've teased him about trucks. We did texting this morning. In jest of course. Said hey I assume you got one of those on pre-order. And he just. Yep. With a smiley face. Which he doesn't. Yeah. But it's got. You know. It doesn't matter what you said it was. He wouldn't have one on pre-order. I mean this thing's got over 300 horsepower. Over 400 foot pounds of torque. It's got sway bar disconnect. Electronic. Lockers. 7 speed manual. Or 10 speed auto. I mean they went through it all. Stuff they didn't have in the early 70s when the Broncos were. If they were that good back then and they didn't have anything. What do you think they're like now? Yeah. It's impressive. The little video clip they played. Made me want one. I haven't watched it. Don't watch it. You're going to. Never been really a Ford guy. That's just. I'm not. But anyway. Well. All right. What else?
Where are we at? We are ricocheting all over the place here. But. I think this part of what we were talking about is a scout. And we're scouting sheep. Deer obviously. Elk. We've got elk tags. We're excited. We're going in a lot of different directions. Antler growth. Yeah. Let's talk about that. For elk. For elk. Elk. Let's just talk. Nevada. Utah. Arizona. Yeah. The important one. Well. Not that everything's not important. But. But yeah. And other than Arizona. They had a good year. But Utah. Utah had a bad year last year. It was not good. We had a way late spring. Did never worn up. Yeah. This year is completely different. Yeah. In June. So it was. I mean. Snow levels were. Yeah. Still significant. Up in the. Upper elevations in Utah. In June. And so we were nervous that there wasn't the green. Never really got going good. You know. Just. Just. Eating too much winter feed.
For too long. Before things really got going. This year's different. This year's looking great. Nevada. There's going to be some giants. Utah. Big bulls. In Utah. There's going to be some giant bulls killed this year. A few 400s. Arizona. We anticipate that too. Deer. They're always behind elk. So we're all. You know. It's. Mid July. We're always eager to start seeing something big. There's a few. There's very few. But it is not. Nevada appears to be either A. Behind. Or off. And off. I would say. At this moment. I felt that way about Utah so far too. Have you? Yeah. A little bit. You know. It was really wet. Through the late fall. Winter. And way early spring. Let's call it March. Yeah. Up till April 1. Yeah. It's been dry. So dry. So miserable. But the feed looks great. But I'm telling you. Something's. Not quite right. And we've talked about it before. I almost feel like deer cycle.
And maybe have some unknown. Variables. That we don't know everything about. They just. They have cycles. And it just feels like. I don't know. So far. Now the Arizona Strip. I'm hearing there's great bucks.
You know. Henry's been getting a little bit of moisture. Bronson. Yeah. When we haven't been. Maybe. There's going to be places that are going to be great. Colorado probably always produce a few. Yeah. The mountain states. Aren't as limiting on summer range. You know. Places like Colorado. Lots of Wyoming. You know. Western Wyoming. They're not limited on summer range. For the most part. But.
Anyway. So yeah. We're. Still too early. We're not making a bold prediction yet. It's July 13th. Or whatever it is. 14th. I don't know what it is. Tax day tomorrow. Tax day tomorrow is nerve wracking. When your accountant hasn't spoke to you. A. Do you have my documents? B. Where do I sign? C. So I can forget about that. What's the damage? All right. Well anyway. Embrace yourself. The more tax you pay. The more money you make. Let's get off of that. That's what I did tell one of my clients. He's like. Yeah. I got a tax burden. It's unbelievable. I'm like. That made you made a lot of money. I wish I had that problem. He looks at me like. Somehow we're back on. All right. The government. Yeah. Let's get off the government. Who cares about taxes? Yeah. I mean. If we're going to defund police. We should get some refunds. Huh? Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm sorry. I brought it up. No. All right.
Don't loot. Don't steal. We won't need the police. All right. Let's. Where are we at now? Let's see. Bronson. We've talked about antler growth a little bit. What about these fires? Yeah. They're popping. It feels like everywhere. We got them in town. My street. If you go. If you go out there. It's like. Man. I was scared the other day. Even driving down the two tracks. Like. I'm not going to park anywhere. There was. Anywhere that there's grass. Yeah. There was. There was that brome grass. It's about a foot to 18 inches. I was afraid to park. I parked in the middle of the road. I'm like. Someone comes here. In the 20 minutes I'm here. They're going to. I don't want to park off. No. Because. You don't want your grandkids having to pay the burden. Of the fine. That you created from causing a forest fire. Grandpas are supposed to be thought of fondly. Good point. Instead of. Grandpa. He.
He deserved the 14 months jail time he did. He deserved the bread and water he got for the rest of his life.
So. It's. There's a lot. And.
There's been a few exceptions. There's been. There's been the Kaibab fire. We talked about that. It was big. Those. Kind of the first big one that really set us off. Giant. There's been. And I don't want to minimize it. I don't have all the acres in front of me. But. A lot of them in Utah. And Nevada. Up till now have been. Smaller. But there's a lot. Been a lot of them. Yeah. And it just feels like it's just. It feels like. Ripening by that second. It's snowballing. Everywhere. Yeah. The longer we go without a good monsoons building. Yep. We're getting it. Yep. So. It's also the time of year. Like I said. Scouting. We. You know. Obviously we had. You. You listened to another podcast. One or two ago. I don't remember which one. We talked with our rep. Colby.
Swarovski rep. About the NL Pures. We've had a great response. On the pre-order of those. If you're still interested. In pre-ordering a pair of 8x42. 10x42. 12x42 NL Pures. Which should be dropping in September. Give us a call. 435-263-0777. We just take a small deposit. Just so we basically know who's serious. And put you on a first come first serve wedding list. And we're shipping them out that way. We base our orders off those deposits. And it secures your place in line. And you can be rest assured. It's the industry best pricing. New products Bronson. Let's just be honest. I mean the Ford Bronco. They're not going to make me a steal. They're going to have plenty of demand. We don't work that way here at Epic Outdoors. We are giving you member pricing. Which beats anybody's Memorial Day. Labor Day. Fourth of July sales there are. Guaranteed. Just call us. Call us. Yeah those that are.
That have looked around. Whether. The Pures are new enough. That you know. You have to call somebody. Because they're not advertised in stores yet. But. If you're buying. You know. Leica. Zai Swarovski. Vortex. Optics. You're doing a disservice not to call us. Because the people that call us. Says. Wow. I've done my homework. You guys are a lot better. So anyway. Give us a call. When we say give us a call for breast pricing. We mean it. That's what we're saying. We're here to play. You know. We've had. You know. There's been guys coming out with. Some wazoo. Crazy. Amazing. Sales. They say. And you compare them to our everyday member price. I mean. We're less. So I guess we don't have. You didn't see us come out with a fourth. Amazing. Fourth of July sale. Our everyday sale is. What you get. Is every day. So anyway. That. The upside. Even though it's an everyday sale. Let's call it.
The upside of getting in early. As you secure your place in line. There's going to be. There are going to be. A finite number. Given to us. Given to other dealers. And things like that. We've upped our order. Which they've. You know. Added to our original order. And so. We're super excited. We're. We're ordering significant quantities of optics. Anyway. Yeah. Think of us. When you think of something. We love making great deals. So if you're not. Necessarily interested in the purers. But you're interested in something else. Give us a call. We're here. You know. At least. Monday through Thursday. Every day. In the office. Through the summer. Some Fridays. But. Some Fridays. We're. We're taking off. Frankly. As scouting. And other things. Get on the front burner. And let's face it. Here within three or four weeks. Some of the archery deer hunts. Are starting. So. It's coming fast. So.
We aren't going to be here. All the Fridays. Keep that in mind. Through the summer. Unless you have something pressing. And we can make other arrangements. I also sell in Stealth Cam. We've got a number of models. That are in stock. Here. At. The. Epic office. And. You know. We definitely treat guys right on that. We get them out. As soon as we can. Bronson. You and I. Make trips to the mail. Specifically. Before 3.30. Sometimes two. Three times a day. Because. We know what it feels like. You want it to get it out. And we realize it's scouting season. So. You get. Get orders in by 10 or noon. You take them up. And then you get some more. Before 3.30. You take them up. Trying to get it. Get it out to you fast. Like I said. We've got about four models. Of cameras in. Lock boxes as well. Doesn't matter if you need one or two. Whether it's fusions. Whether it's regular SD card cameras.
Give us a call. Make a great price on those two. And I'll just say. There's cameras we have. That nobody else has. Even. Even some of the. Some of the. Distributors. Even the mothership. That's right. Is waiting on. And it's just because we bought. Big quantities. And we were proactive. We made a lot of our orders in March. People aren't thinking about cameras in March. We. We know when people are going to think of them. Because we know when we think of them. And that's generally May and June. And. And. It takes a month or two to get your stuff here. I mean. That's just the way these big companies work. Knowing that. We pre-ordered again. And. That's our goal. We feel like we've played it right. Being new. In somewhat the retail market. Let's call it. For optics and trail cameras. And so. Anyway. Working hard at it. We love it. As well as. Of course. The epic publication.
All the statistics. Straw tags. All of those things that we've always done. We continue to do. Continue to. Perform. Well at. And. And have that be. Kind of the crux of our business here. Putting some of the final touches on a magazine. Actually. In this. Next few days. Back in the freaking saddle. The August. September magazine out. Couple of highlights. That's. I guess. Key. Yep. Maybe the points only. Application periods that are open. Oregon. Montana. Wyoming. Wyoming. The one big thing you need to remember about Wyoming. Probably. More than any. Any of the others. Is. Everybody needs to apply for it. Even if you applied for deer, elk, and antelope. Last year. They went to this. New method. That even if you applied for them. And were unsuccessful. They didn't give you a point automatically for deer, elk, and antelope. They did not do it. You've got to go back now. And get your points.
Do not forget. Don't think. Well I applied for elk and deer and antelope. I'm good. They give me a point. Just for those three species. That's right. Sheep and moose. Sheep and moose. They. They pulled 150 from you. There's no option there. There's no option. They're pulling it out of your skin up there. The goats. Obviously. There's. And bison. There's no points for it. But anyway. Keep that in mind. You have till November 2nd. There's not going to be. I mean. There's not going to be an excuse for you to miss this. No. July 1 to November 2. It's like freaking four months. I mean. Jeez. Like four months point period. I mean. We're going to. Yeah. So anyway. We're going to cover that all in the publication as well as applying in Texas. Have a little bit of precursor for that. But just so y'all know. We're. We're cranking that out.
We are not losing focus of what brought us to the table or what our expertise are. Our expertise. Western big game. Canada. Alaska. Mexico. Getting tags. Getting hunts. Buying hunts. And then. Of course. We're using all the gear. And so we added the gear. It keeps us cranking on some fun projects throughout the late spring. Summer. Fall. And. And we enjoy it. And. And we like. You know. Getting our members great deals. And so anyway. It's been fun. It's been a fun little project. And we've got the manpower here to do it. We've got awesome guys by the way. And gals. Absolutely. Here at the Epic office. Great staff. I was thinking today. I. I came. Oh. 15 minutes late to work today. I don't know. I had an excused absence. Carter. I run that by him last night. So anyway. Submitted a written form. To whoever. John. I think it was verbal. I got to submit forms to John.
Everybody answers to John. But anyway. When I pulled in here today. It looked like there was. Trucks. Bumpers. Jeeps. It was like. They're all drawing salaries. Well. It just. It was like. People ready to play here today. They are. It was like. You know. Everybody was here. But what's funny is. Is we keep saying. Well. Summer's going to be a slow time. Bronson. When's the last slow time you remember?
2016. The only time. Slow was Saturday night. At about 1130. For me. It was pretty slow. The clock was ticking. You probably could hear. Your heart beating. Laying in bed. Not wanting to move to wake up Becky. She went. She wasn't even in bed yet. She was going to bed. And I'm like. It's not going to happen here. Because I can't sleep. So I was up till. At least 230. Just. What are you doing? Polishing. Nothing. No. Pioneer. I put on a movie. No. No. No. Those projects are done. It was just. Try to find a movie. That can put me to sleep. Or. Going through trail camera photos. 15,000 bird photos. No. But those are coming too. This week. I hate it. I know. King chuckers. Quail. I did find a water. I told you about this. There was a water. I've never flushed more fowls of the air. Off of. In. In my life. I know. It was. World class. It was unbelievable. Canada has world class bird hunting.
World class. But the weird thing is. Is. I didn't see them. Anywhere. And I get to this one. And. And I told you this. I told you the number. Two to three hundred. Oh. I've seen. I've seen. I don't know. And it was doves. And. And quail. And it. They were. They kept flushing for three hundred yards. Either side of it. And. They wouldn't quit. And I'm like. Oh. Where. What is going on here? Yeah. I've had that. Little chicks. Like you said. They're running off. They look like. Freaking. Two inch. Three inch. Little. Oh. Sean. Sean told me. We saw little turkeys. Little. Oh. Did you? Oh. Yeah. Sean's like. Oh. I'll catch one of those. We'll throw them in with our chickens. And I'm like. I'm thinking. A. We'd probably get in big trouble for that. It's wild. But B. There's no way he can. I'm like. Oh yeah. You think you can? You think you're a big boy? Get on out there.
And see what you can do. He didn't even get to the edge of the pavement. I mean. They were flying and gone. I'm like. Just saying. They're wild animals. If they haven't figured it out by now. They're already dead. Yeah. You're not. You're not catching. Just like antelope. How. I mean. How fast do they grow? Oh. You look at a doe. They are so little. They go from zero to 40 in three seconds. They get born. And they're like. How big is that? I mean. I don't know. What. A foot and a half long. Yeah. Whatever. Two feet long. Five pounds. Five pounds. I don't know. I don't really know. But I'm just saying. They're little. Well. It's like a spider. They're all legs. Right? They are. Okay. Within two weeks. It feels like they're running 45.
Gaining on 55. I mean. And they're big. They. But they have to be. And you look at a doe antelope. It's like. It's not like they have a big udder. Like a cow. There's like nothing. How are you feeding that? To do that. Out in the desert too. In these weird environments. And you're like. Wow. She's providing milk for that. They're impressive. They're growing like crazy. Yeah. Deer fawns don't grow anywhere near that. That mama's taking prenatals that humans could only wish they could find. Maybe it's the weird places antelope live. And the weird stuff leaching into the water. Alkali flats. Weird. I don't know. It's probably all the stuff that's in the monster. They're probably drinking that. You can't catch a fawn antelope. There's no question. I don't. If it's not within 12. Eight hours. I don't think you got a prayer. No. Think about humans.
They say I didn't talk till I was three years old. Pushing four. I know. And you can't. You got to have diapers. For how long? Who knows? I mean three years. Whatever. I don't know. We don't know. We don't even know what we're talking about. But it's definitely not no three month process. It's not 45 miles an hour within seven days. No. No. Or a week or two. Five years. And you learn how to ride a bike. Come on. You know what? What's our problem? Anyway. It's just impressive. We were commenting that the other day. They are the. They drop. And of course you don't see them. They hide them. But so do deer. Deer hide them for the first month. And then they start following after four to six weeks. They start. You saw there's some fawns. Okay. Those antelope. When they start following them. The gig is up. They are not afraid of anything. They are gone. They're impressive. Yeah. They are.
It's like they quadruple in size. It feels like in three weeks. I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. Very prolific. Here we are talking about antelope. How do we get back on government and antelope? I don't know. All day. We just keep coming back. I don't know. I don't know. I've been excited about antelope lately. Whoa. I got this buck that's. Whoa. I don't know what his deal is. But I'm sitting on the porch the other night. Oh, at your house? Playing my guitar at my house. And this buck walks right up probably within 30 yards. Serenading. He's just hanging out. Really? And a bunch of dough comes up with a bunch of. And you're not really on the edge of the wilderness. No. You're getting a valley here. Yeah. But you're not like the last house. He's in the county. You can legally shoot a gun, but you'd have people on your front doorstep. Yeah. Right. Yeah. I mean, you've got a subdivision.
For all intents and purposes, what's your property? How big is your property? Oh, I got three acres. And the neighbors around you. An acre, two acres. Most of them three to five or ten. Yeah. So you. I mean, there's people that live there. Oh, yeah. So he's chilling out, coming up. Maybe the guy's a little dog feeder, cat feeder on the porch. Got a whole herd. We got. Come on. Little babies and. What? Yeah. He's bringing does, fawns, and bucks. Oh, yeah. I got video of it. You feeding them? No. No. You got water on your place? Why do they come? I wonder. I have no idea. The music. Well, see if you can. Here's a challenge for you, Chris. If you can incorporate the word antelope into one of your songs, that might be a hit. I bet you. I'll bet it can't be done. Challenge accepted. You incorporate mule deer or big buck or something. I mean, Aaron Lewis. Huh? Granddaddy's gun.
I mean, there's some legit music there. The day that I told you about the doves and the quill. Who's the guy right now? He's got talks about seven and a half dove loads and Mossberg pump in the. I haven't heard that one. Yeah. Loads. In an environment that's. In a Mossberg pump. Very political. Anyway, he's. Yeah. That's right. He's our hero right now. But country. I mean. Put in buckshot and we're ready to go. Pretty much country is. It's all things we like. Where are we at next? You know, we're starting to shoot our bows. I've got the boys out. Sean's got his archery elk tag in Arizona. And we went. He's shooting 62 pounds. And cranking. He's like. Last night. It's super windy. And he's like. Dad, come on. I want to shoot 50 yards. Come help me push this pin to 50. And I'm like. No. This target, Bronson. And this. Reminds me why I want the big boy target like yours. 20 by 20 inches.
It's. I mean. Jeez. Yeah. You know what I mean. And I'm like. You're going to miss. You're 50 yards in our backyard. And. And. You've got. Ricochets. Right. Houses. And families. Potentially ricochets. Potential jail time for the rest of your life. Chris can't do that. He's got a. He might. Stick an adelo. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. All right. But anyway. It's time to get prepared. That's what we're talking about. We're running cameras. Buying optics like it's our freaking job. Don't know where the money's coming from. Well. It's always fun to talk to guys. We've got on the pre-order list ourselves. Because it's exciting. I mean. It is exciting. Yes. Well. Have to take a deposit from John though. Yeah. Just teasing. Just teasing. But anyway. Pretty awesome. And so. If you need any of the gear. You want to talk about scouting.
You want to talk to some members who've drawn tags that you've drawn. And get a place to start. Give us a holler. If we've. If we've hunted there. We're happy to help too. And we do. We help all the time. If you need unit maps of the unit you drew. We've got that feature on our website. Epic Outdoors. Go to the map center. You can click on the GMU. Game Management Unit Maps. By state. Click on it. The nice thing about those. They come on a waterproof paper. All folded up. With your unit centered in the middle. And the boundaries delineated. So you don't have. Standard BLM maps. Where you're buying the paper ones. And they're not waterproof. They wear out after one year. If you use them heavy. And then they're going to have three to four seams within your unit. You're going to have problems. Yeah. Keep that in mind as well. They're all on our website. Epic Outdoors dot com. Map Center.
Okay. Everybody. We're going to call a good buddy of mine. Paul Marshall. So he's a friend of all of us here at Epic Outdoors. And he's a shrink. So maybe he's got a little advice for all those wives that are going to be home left alone this hunting season. For both sides of the marriage. Why would you ask him that? I don't know. Let's just see. Why would you just ask him how the weather is in Beaver County and what tags he has? Geez. Hey. What are you doing and where are you at? I'm at the hospital eating my lunch. What are you doing? Well, we're doing the Epic Outdoors podcast. Oh my gosh. What do you need? A shrink or what? I could use one. What are all your problems? What do you have to do when you need one? That's a problem. It's kind of like when a mechanic can't fix his own truck. Where does he take it? I go shoot stuff.
Do you? You take it out on jackrabbits, huh? Go find some jackrabbits. I go. I like to be by myself. Yeah. Go drive around the hills by myself. You know. Yeah. Isn't that sometimes, especially like Carter's talked a lot about COVID today. I try to keep getting off the subject of government peering into your cell phone. And, you know, every other day they got random ads popping up about something you verbally talked about as you're driving to lunch. And just who's listening and watching, blah, blah, blah. But aren't you, when somebody is in that state of mind, all that, don't you counsel people, don't go be by yourself because you might harm yourself? Absolutely. Absolutely. And so have you ever been worried about yourself?
Um, well, not intentionally harming myself, but stupidly harming myself. Absolutely, man. I drive almost as rough as you, Jason. I mean, I'm the same. I don't know if that's possible. But if it is. We faked me getting car sick, throwing up on that one hunt. Well, you're in the hospital and you don't sound like you got a mask on. I do not have a mask on. Oh. All right. Well, I don't wear a mask. I'm on an anti-mask thing. I do, like, when I'm where patients are, I do wear a mask. But if I'm in my office, I don't. What's your opinion off the record? Off the record on a hot mic.
Got an opinion? Plead the fifth. Yeah, I think it's all hocus pocus, man. I mean, I think the disease is real or the illness is real. But I think we're blowing it way out of proportion. I think it's like the flu. You got to get exposed to it. And it's either going to kill you or you're going to kill it. And we move on. So, you know, Beaver County hasn't had that many cases, has it? I think we got 12. Oh, geez. Yeah. We talked about this. And, oh, I threw this out as a random food for thought fact a month or so on a podcast. Doesn't Beaver County claim, like, the best water in the world or something? So maybe it's something in the water around Beaver. Hey, I think it is something in the water. Isn't there a billboard over there that says, like, best water on planet Earth or something? Especially out in the Milford Flat. Yeah, it does. It does that.
I just, I was making sure I wasn't, and I think I misspoke. I said something about the TV or telephone. And now I've forgotten which one was, like, created by somebody that was from Beaver. Philo T. Farnsworth. Was it the phone or the TV? I don't remember. The TV. Okay. Was it? Yeah. Come on. Utah history. Come on. No, for real. Utah history. I think I missed. I did not know that, or I didn't put two and two together. I always think of milk and cows. Yeah. No. And Giardia, because the beaver. Well, and streams named beaver. You got Giardia. And big buck contests. I mean, remember all those big buck contests back in the day that go to Vegas and win the Jeeps? A lead pipe falls out of the carcass because they went on weight. Come on. That's a beaver county trick. Tell me I'm wrong. I mean, I like people from Beaver County, but I mean, that is a... I think we should shift gears now.
I'm going to be incriminating. Well, Paul, I just... Now, we're going to take some of your time. I don't want you to... I don't want these to be considered billable hours. You know what I mean? Hey, no. As soon as I answered the phone, we were on the clock. Okay. Okay. You know... Okay. And so those new Swarovskis, I know I can't afford them right now, but I figured by the end of this podcast, I can get a brief end. Paul's like, hey, do you need a deposit? And I'm like, yeah, we need a deposit. I took a deposit from some of our best friends, Paul. Like, I'm telling you, it just tells us who's serious. That's all it's doing. It's true. It's true. And Jason paid me his deposit, and I paid him mine. I just gave it back to him, and here's mine. So we've... That's the way it ought to be right there. Hey. So what... Hey, so you guys should have had me on the podcast.
There's been a couple of it. Like, the engagement podcast. I should have been on that one. Oh, yes. They're going to need some marital advice. That was a cold call. Teed up. Perfect. That would have been perfect. That would have been perfect. Okay. Next week, we're going to call you next week. We're going to get those guys back in here because... And maybe you could give them some good advice of what... You know, free advice, obviously. Non-billable. Obviously. Of what not to do. Well, we just don't want them to start their marriage in debt. Yeah. And tell them what to be careful with. And like, we've had... We've had them both say, when do I give in, and when do I stand my ground? Those are just natural things that hunters need to know, and maybe you could help us with. Turf horse. We're talking turf horse. Okay, so do you want a answer, or do you want... No.
You know, how to handle yourself and gotten an interest? No, we won't real. Just be thinking about that, but we... Be ruminating that. Maybe turn to some books, references, things that have some good answers. Forrest Neck. We want those guys to hear it. If we hear it, we're not going to regurgitate it to them. So we want them with us. They're not here today. And we're old enough. We've already tripped, fallen, stumbled, and we've made it this far, and you're not going to change us because we're old. These guys are impressionable, little young. They're not super young, but they're younger, and they're starting out. We want to give them some good advice as wise old men. You know what I mean? Like going in the camp trailer that your parents got you for your wedding and shooting jackrabbits out the window at like 6 a.m. Hey, chipmunks. Okay. In your underwear out in a lawn chair.
It was chipmunks in my underwear. With a 22-250. With a 22-250.
Okay. But that was back in the day when that was okay. Nowadays, who knows? Nothing goes anymore. Right, Paul? No. No. We're in trouble. We're in... What do you think about society? What do you think about what we all got going on here and what we're dealing with? We live in a world that's pretty crazy and pretty scary. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Anxiety is just simple. You know, somebody said that Rush Limbaugh was on there and he had a caller call in and she says, you know, I'm nervous about the world I live in. I don't know what to do. I'm kind of freaking out. And he says, you know what? You know what you could do? The best thing you could do? And she's like, what's that? And he said, turn the news off for 30 days. It's exactly right. Is that the way you're feeling? Absolutely. Rush is correct. I don't watch the news. Golf 18 holes a day and check control cameras and stuff like that.
Put on a t-shirt over your face when you go into a store. Yeah. And don't go to Colorado without a face mask. I found that out. We're back to government crap, Carter. Well, it's on our mind. When can we talk about a mountain dew? A mountain dew zero and a grape snow cone and just, you know. Paul, have you seen those mountain dew zeros? I have not. It's not diet, but they're zero calorie. They're pretty amazing. Bronson put me on. Turned me on to them. I've had four or five ever since. Zero sugar, too? Zero sugar. Oh, yeah. It's the caffeine's what you're there for. But, Chris, you're a mountain dew drinker. I used to be. Well, did you leave it because of the sugar? Yeah. And the diet are nasty, right? I hate the diet. You can't choke them down. You might as well use it as, you know, starting fluid, antifreeze, whatever else. Might as well be Drano. Okay. But try the zero sugar.
It's like the Coke Zero. It's 10 times better for me. Carter likes Diet Coke. I like Coke Zero. I think it has more flavor. It doesn't taste as diet-y. Same with Mountain Dew Zero. And we're not even paid to say that. Mountain Dew, we're nobody to Mountain Dew. So, PepsiCo? No. Come on. But try it, Paul. And even with the surge in the sales of monsters since the Epic Outdoors podcast started up, they still don't have any respect for us. All right. Try it. No. No. But, Paul. I drink water. Oh, go ahead. Yeah. I drink water. That's it. Whoa. You and Wyatt need to talk. That's another thing you can talk about next week when we get you on the podcast. We do want you to give them some marital advice. But before you leave us here, Paul, there's a lot of – we're getting ready to start the – the scouting season is hard. It's long and it's a grind.
And both the husband and wife feel the effects of it, as well as hunting season, as a shrink. I asked him earlier if that is a derogatory term. I don't know if it is. And he knows I don't know, and so he's not even offended. Right, Paul? I actually take that as a comment. Oh, okay. What's your – as the head shrink of anybody I know, what's your – any advice that you got for dudes out there going to grind away for a couple months and tax the family budget and tax the family time? Any words of advice? Yeah. Be extra nice to your wife when you're around. Take her on a date once in a while. Amen. Compliment her. What was that last one? Compliment. Okay. Compliment. Would you say for people that are struggling in marriage that the lack of compliments is critical? For sure. And appreciation. Most people feel unappreciated in their marriage. Yeah. And so you can do a little appreciation.
It goes a long way. Could you get away with a new pair of NL Pures if you gave them, you know, say 10 extra compliments? Or what do you think? No, it would take more than that. Well, you'd probably have to get your wife a pair of 10s and you the pair of 12s. That compliments each other. Is that the type of compliment we're talking about? Maybe. Paul? I think – I don't know why you guys called. You guys got this figured out. Five – Well, 55. Well, you don't get to be 45 years old and 20-something years of marriage and not learn a few things. And much as you do, right? It's just called they tap out. Yeah, we got good ones. We got good ones. But I'm just wondering if – yeah. So I like that so far, Paul. You're basically compliment them, take them on a date.
Anything else? You got to not sweat the little things. You got to not sweat the little things. I mean, that's – Come again? The most – Oh, the most important thing is don't let them know that you're doing it just so you can go hunt more or check cams more or scout more. It's got to be sincere. You got to have a level of sincerity there. Is that where you're going? They got to know you mean it or, you know – It doesn't even count if it's – Yeah. Yeah. If they think it's hollow. So what part in the marriage – like how many years do you see? Is it 15-year mark, 10-year mark, 20-year mark where you see there needs to be – maybe you take each other for granted a little bit. But is that kind of where we're talking? When's the honeymoon over? Yeah. I mean, when do you see that? When do you have couples need to be rejuvenated? We need to talk –
The honeymoon's over when you start taking quarters out of the jar. You know that old saying? Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. After a year – So the first year of marriage, put a quarter in the jar for every time you have a significant interaction. And then – Yeah. And then you're going to spend those the rest of your life because you've got to supply. That whole analogy? Yeah. Okay. For sure. So say that again. When you start taking them out – When you start taking quarters out of the jar, the honeymoon's over. So one year. Okay. One year mark. One year mark. And, you know, that's a tough question because everybody's different. But in general, the longer a person stays together, the easier it is to take advantage of your spouse.
And so – and then until you get probably retirement age, and then I think that gear shifts and then it's back on. Okay. And, you know, you've got to be friends with your wife because when you retire, if you don't have her as a friend, then you don't have any friends. And then it's a problem. When you said it's back on, did you mean – I mean, I'm not – we're not at retirement age. Or you mean it's back on, you're putting – you're filling the jar up back really fast again. Or you actually learn to appreciate each other because you've – No, no. You didn't mean that. Okay. All right. Just checking. I didn't know what you meant by it's back on. I don't know what I'm looking forward to. Walk us through it, Paul. I mean – Walk us through it. We could make some stuff up here and have some fun with it, but, you know, I've got to kind of – No, be honest. Be honest.
Yeah, no, you don't ever put quarters back in the jar. No. I wish. Huh. But usually that gets better with retirement, but not enough to put it in the jar. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So, well – All right. So who's all there with you right now? Just me and Bronson. And 10,000 other people that have downloaded this. Chris is running – Okay. You know, I should put out my email and my number so I can get some advertisement, right? Well, Paul, we have no problem with that if you're – I don't know. As long as you don't lead them astray. Yeah. You know? We can't – we have what we call epic-approved outfitters. We don't have epic-approved shrinks per se. You'd be the first. And we don't know what it means to endorse you. We don't know what that means. And we're going to need some references. I mean, we're friends and all, but we do – Although you did give us some advice with raising kids. Yeah.
Remember that, Paul? Let's talk about that real quick, and then I'll let you go. You're probably about done with your lunch. What did you have? A salad? I don't know. What did you have? No. All right. Okay. All right. Remember when we had a certain child, and he was defiant and wanted to go and do – he didn't want to get ready in the morning. We wanted to go to Walmart, and he wanted to be in pajamas and not do his hair and not even brush his teeth or nothing. And we were like, no, you're going to get dressed like a normal person, and we're going to go to Walmart. Right. And you said – go ahead. I said take him to Walmart in his pajamas and see how that works for him. And by the time he's 14, 15, and 16 years old, the social pressures will fix this kid. Exactly right. Did you do that? Yes. For that, but yeah. It changed our relationship. The first time?
You said, all right, get your – go and run. It changed our relationship because we let him make a decision. That's all he wanted to do. Yeah. He didn't want to be in control of what he wore, kind of. And it wasn't even – it wasn't going nude. He was just wearing pajamas. Oh, he was just wearing pajamas, and you're just – you're embarrassed as a mom or a dad, but at the same time, you're thinking, well, now that we're a little older, there's no reason to be embarrassed because there's no parent judging another parent with a kid screaming at Walmart. No. You know what I mean? Right. With the first kid, we worry about that. After that, we realize nobody judges other parents. And so that helped us a lot. And then we did learn a lot from the love languages, you know, learning what these love languages were
and realizing that we were violating some love languages in levels of punishment or whatever and realized that wasn't a good parenting strategy either. And it helped us a ton to kind of acknowledge that. It's true. Love languages are great. And kids are different. They are so – and some of them want gifts. Some just needs words of affirmation. It's like they are different. For quality time or service or whatever. And it was – is there a book out there? Real quick, Paul. This is just a parenting book because we went through it. Is there a love language book that you recommend? Just the basic book, love languages. Okay. Okay. All right, guys. Well, that's – Actually, it is a parenting book that I do recommend. It's a great book. It's called Raising the Emotionally Intelligent Child. It's by a guy named John Gottman. He's fantastic. All right, guys. We'll check with you another time.
Appreciate your words of wisdom. We do. Be safe. All right. Be safe. Don't loot. Don't steal. And we'll talk to you next week. Thanks, guys. See you. All right. Talk to you later. Bye. Bye. Before we close today, though, I would like to – and I'm sure a lot of our listeners are thinking of this type of thing. What am I listening to? This is a cross between Rush Limbaugh. Dr. Phil. Dr. Laura. Dr. Phil. Dude, from the epic perspective. And it's affiliates. Affiliates. Dr. Laura Schlesinger is our affiliate. I don't know. Come on, Carter. Paul is. Well, he's got valid input. He's been a good dude for years. Yeah, he is. Perfect. Slightly crazy, but aren't they all? No. He's not. He's just – Anyway, yeah, it's scouting. There's a lot of things going through our mind in this crazy environment. A lot of down time. A lot of highway time. A lot of alone time. Windshield time.
A lot of 116 degree temperature days. If you're in Nevada or Arizona. Heat stroke. I mean, it might have affected us. We might have had it and didn't know it. Now the effects are coming out in a podcast. Anyway. All right, everybody. Well, we appreciate all the support of everybody listening. We've got guys out there even winning. We should – by the way, we should throw out a little prize. Maybe an epic hat and decal or something like that. Should we do it? For what? Just for a listener. We'll do a random draw on Instagram. A tax day giveaway? Tax day giveaway. I like it. It even rings. Tax day giveaway. It comes out tomorrow. We'll do that tomorrow. July 15th. Let's give a – Let's give something significant. NG45 Pro camera too. Okay. The NG45 Pro with lockbox. Epic Outdoors. Razor light. Outdoor edge. Razor light. Knife. Decal. Hat. And a leather patch hat. Call it a day.

I don't know. And we're not going to send you $10.99 for the free camo you want. No. How's that? And it makes – That's our tax contribution. There you go. Not going to $10.99 you the $150 for all this stuff. How's that? Full retail might be more with the hat and decals and everything. But it's under $600, so I've been told you don't have to do that. All right. So the deadline will be Saturday the 18th. Perfect. At midnight – or at 11.59 p.m. 11.59. Because you're the only one awake that late. Unless I fell asleep at 5.30. 5.30 at 11.30, Bronson's going to be waiting. Six hours. That's a perfect six. I know. And that's all we need. The older we get, the less we need. I was messed up. I took a sleeping pill and it took me three hours to fall asleep. Somehow I managed. Managed a couple hours. Okay, everybody. Well, we appreciate you all listening. We're going to lunch.
Everybody out there, don't steal, don't loot, and get out scouting.
