Marcagon. Boulders, yeah. All right. We're getting very deep in the weeds, right out of the gate. Josh, what's your cellular telling you? Is it snowing or hailing? I'm leaving the country, too. What? Yeah. I got roped into a family vacation, so. When? When? Opening the deer season? What? Is this on the calendar? I've told you about it. You can't go. Okay. What do you got? You don't have to pull my arm very hard. Do you want us to tell you you can't go? Going down to Tijuana? Do you want to? Where are we going? Can't go. Oh, wow. I guess. I don't know. I'm just there. You're going to be trafficked. Are you healed up? Probably. A guy like you and a beard like yours? Be careful, man. Are you healed up yet after that race and that? No, I'm good. And the mosquito bites you got? Are you a vector? I've still got the mosquito bites. You might be a vector carrying some kind of a disease. Three weekends before last weekend, Devin walks over to my office and says, you're going. We'd been talking about you. And I've only invited. We had this on the podcast. Yeah. I have only invited you. Yeah. My whole life. I've never invited anybody to you. Yep. Yep. Come to find out why. It's never been invited, apparently. According to him. Of course. Let's say Wyatt was invited. Yeah. He acts all offended. I mean, come on. Come on. Come on. You invite him to lunch and he won't go. Yeah. Or usually he goes. He goes. But no, Devin walks in my office and said, crap or get off the pot. And I said, okay. I guess we're signing up for this Spartan beast. And I'd never done it before. Three weeks in advance.

And start training. And we went and did it. And we didn't die. How many miles do you think you did in that three weeks, though? Oh. Before. Good to get to you. I could probably add it up. Probably. I bet you're knocking on 100. Probably a markup. No. I'd say probably 75. I'd say knocking on 100. Probably a markup. 75% of the way there. Yeah.

It's good. So then what? Devin had to show you up and do the other two races. Yeah. Without me there. So I couldn't do it. Without you there? I'm just trusting him. Well, he is trusting that he did it. Yeah. Right? Yeah. He is roughly 10 years your senior. And he had to tell you. Everything gets easier the older you get. It does. It's easier the older you get.

The old man was right. I have the tracks to prove it. It was fun. It was fun, though. It surprises you when you grab the 60-pound bag. And there's, like, guys that are way more jacked than fatty me. And you just cook past them. You know what that's for? It's a glorious feeling. Oh, my God. Because you're packing meat. Dude. You're just like, I've got meat on my back. You just walk. So just packing all that milk bag, man, our whole lives. Just packing a quarter, and you're good to go. It's funny, because, yeah, like, I'm not the strongest guy. No. You've got these big dudes. You helped him over the logs. I did. All the obstacles. I don't know that I ever helped him. Devin's an animal. Sometimes he likes to sit around and sniff the roses. It would surprise you. Did I fail any obstacles? Sometimes he likes to sniff the roses all the way through. I don't think so. Did we attempt it? I don't think so. Did Cash? Yes.

Yes. When you hit your arm just right and it goes numb, you just call it a quits and you just do the penalty. You just cut your losses there and do the rest of them. Okay. You're pretty wise. It's good to know you can do that. How young you are. Yeah. What was our race? It was 14 miles? 14.4. And it was, I read on their site it was like just shy of 5,000 feet, but Onyx claims it was only 3,800 feet. Yeah, that's what mine says. 3,800 elevation. I don't know. One of them is accurate. That's a good, that's a good test. It's a good jog. Four sheet pun or something. And then Devin, finish that out. You guys get done with that. Then what do you do? I did 12 the next day. For what? And another 3,100 feet. With other members of your family? Yeah. Two more races. One with my brother. You just took on some freshies and went on and kept crushing. Just kept going. Did you even change your pulse?

Yeah, I changed every time. Yeah, you got to. You have to. When you go shopping my dog. You should have seen Cash. Oh, man. Was he pretty disgusting? It's pretty, like you go through the, like you're in the last mile and you go through a mud bug, you have to go underneath all the water and it's, it's mud water. It's disgusting. It's usually not that disgusting. You're 50th in line to go through it. Yeah. 50th. Try like 5,000. Yeah. We're in the back of the pack, you know. That's gross. It's like a October 15th El Coalo. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So do you guys have athlete's feet all over your body? Oh, I. That's what I'm talking about. I sprayed in Epsom salt. I sprayed my feet with alcohol and I go home. This is what I'm talking about. You going to Mexico, you're definitely a vector for something you're taking down there. You just don't know why. I don't know. I don't know.

I don't even know what I'm doing. If you're not traffic, you're going to get sick. I probably will. So if I die, I die. So next year, now that Archibald's out. No. I die. I'll do it again. And I pinned his hand to the table pretty easy. He forgets that day often. So I have to remind him. Yeah, but you had like two years of arm wrestle training from a professional.

I never went to a professional. You told me. You said, I worked with the guy who did all these tricks and all these arm wrestling competitions. All the torque of twist maneuvers. Well, Logan, you have AI. Yeah. AI it. It'll teach you. I should have. I don't. I'm not going to arm wrestle him again. I don't need to prove it. You're speaking in past tense. We're talking about the future. The future. You know when you're glassing a herd of elk and the rut's like full swing and there's like two spikes just over here doing their thing. Sparring. Yeah. Sparring. That'd be cash and Logan. I'm at least a rag. Yeah. I've got four points. You got a rough time? Or two. You're definitely a legal bull. I'm legal bull. Logan, not so sure. He's got one. I'm four. You got a cow's bike tag. He's still in velvet. A little bit of velvet. Yeah. Yeah. I'm four. Hold his velvet until the end of October. Tag.

All right. All right. How do we transition to something better than this? I'm trying to get back into hunting related. All right. So take us back into hunting. No, I just was saying. Oh, you talked about elk wallows. You're awakening things to elk wallows. It's two spikes over there sparring in the corner while everything else is going on. Jeez. All right. So let's move along here. So where are we at, Bronson, on things? We're cranking off the hunting season. We're gathering up trail cameras like it's our job. At least the cards for a minute. At least the ones that you know are, might as well get started on some of them right now. Yeah. The ones that haven't produced in a month already. And they have no deer. And it's, you know. Which is how. Dry as a bone. I'm not talking about a mountain unit. I'm talking about a desert area. So frustrating.

Some of my favorite places are just my favorite places. The deer don't like them. I don't. You know what I mean? I'm like, man, I'm the only camera here. The water is amazing. It looks like there's a track or two. It's probably a giant. What is it? An antelope? Oh. No. No. It's the smallest bucks you've ever seen. I pictured Logan and Cash. Maybe at 10 years old. You know what I mean? Come on. I'm just worked. You still got spots, buddy. It was the smallest bucks ever. And then the water dried up and there was nothing. It was like. And it was. It's hard on stuff to get there. It's hard on a side by side. Ended up taking Justin's to come in there once. I mean, it was hard on it. Really hard. And just those kind of things. Like, you think, man, it's going to be awesome. And it's not. Man, I'm the only one here that's going to be amazing. Well, it's not. There's one water that's really cool.

It's like a cellar. And then the water's at the entrance. And I'm the only camera on it. And it's loaded. It's loaded with small bucks. Huh. Like, no good bucks. Just, ugh. That's kind of what's out there. Yeah, it feels that way. A lot of places. That's what's out there. I know. One to threes. Why is that? Do we need to recap why that is? No. Just, hey, we're having a positive. Right? We talked about this, Josh. Lots of small bucks. Yeah. You know? Yeah. One out of every 15 bucks is a four point or whatever. Maybe. Yeah. Fish. Yeah. So. Yeah. Yeah. I went and pulled three or four of mine last weekend that just weren't doing much. Because you kind of got to start getting going on it if you have stuff coming up. Or had, you know, a whole herd of cows kind of move on. And I was just over that. And. Cattle? Yep. Or, yeah. Cattle. Yeah. Cattle. Cattle. Cattle. Cattle. Cattle.

Comes in and just kind of sick of seeing it over that. Filling up a car for four days. Yeah. And it wasn't really worth what was getting there before. And anyway, now I got some sheep coming in. That was one thing I used to do. Right. I would say, yeah. In some of the areas where, I don't know, I guess you could say back in the heyday or whatever i i kept kind of kept track of when the cow where the cows were when they were on the years they were sort of thing because a lot of times they'll end up uh moving pastures you know so it's like so i'd kind of try and plan my trail camera stuff around that but like okay this year i got to put my cameras heavy over here because actually the cows aren't going to be in this reason that one's void this year yeah and then this year and then next year i'd kind of move

over to this other side and try and be in some deer loop just to avoid the cows and stuff what do you think causes that well what do you mean like just the inconsistencies from year to year oh just the way the ranges work yeah they have on and off units throughout i mean i find in the desert a lot of times like i've got the same box you know what i mean but they're but up in the mountain more mountainous country like there's some inconsistencies although your dad's got some inconsistencies in the desert yeah compared to when we were there or compared to last month versus this month or whatever right they just come out of the middle of nowhere and you would think they would be pounding it all summer long right but there's movement yeah just the odd balls that show up and then move in it was pretty interesting so with elk like you get a bull 15 miles away across

the valley i mean deer though you feel like in a deserty dry area and there's no other good waters you get a you get what's there in a month like and there's no been no rain no there's no puddles you've kind of got them might as well start pulling some of those carter i'm just saving you next week i'm just saving your time it was pretty interesting though i had a camera i haven't had it up since um it was up here on pengwich lake and there was the bryan head fire 80 000 acres you know giant fire changed basically the entire unit and how a lot of things how the animals use the unit really and uh i used to run a camera it was kind of in this saddle and it was in a really thick just timber on both sides but it was this open kind of saddle where they could come out and feed or i think they were just moving through it a lot to go down to water on either side and then they'd

kind of come up there to bed during the day or whatever but they would just cross through this saddle a bunch and um i haven't had that camera up since after the fire and that was 2017 i think it was anyway i went and put that camera up this year just to to see you know just something new like that see if there's something new what's still in there whatever it went up in there and um and it used to get hit pretty hard with bulls especially early and i got a picture of one bull on it is all and there's like a little herd of about 20 cow elk and calves in there and that was the only thing they're just kind of hanging right there you know and so it's just crazy how it changed something like that significantly changes because now they don't have to use that saddle they can walk any open hillside or whatever you know there's not thick timber they can't get through and yeah

and they're augering their way through it they're learning it as if it's new country yep yep so it's it was kind of crazy you can i so sometimes you'll run into a situation like that where you'll have a camera that used to be amazing that's not worth putting up anymore from something like that well i'm just happy to report that the pride of lions continue to be happy yeah but you've they've added well you missed one the first time you thought there was three there's actually four there was four at least i think that's all that i can fit in a camera screen who knows what's beyond the lens yeah yeah who knows what's on the peripheral yeah got old jefe out in the brush old papa out there just watching this domain it's pride it's disgusting like the and the one water that has the big tom that's

got ear tags in both ears like he's and he's an awesome cat and you have a lot of respect for him but he's just eating us out of the house no i mean it's just killing us you don't get ear tags for just being a nice so what did i do what did i do supported the division of wildlife bought a tag for no reason what if you want 104 what was that yeah yeah plus or minus whatever they charge you did you get a spike tag today that went on sale no can't can't buy one if you already got one you can only have one yeah how about y'all i acquired i acquired one spikes for spikes i have not yet i'm out all right okay devon you don't have a lot to contribute i guess you've run a little a few less cameras this year yeah just the way things are lining up it's not lining up good for me well you're lining up amazing actually well it'll be

great but not for running cameras right just the different hunts for this year for you the way it is you got a whole new lineup right yep i'm doing a quickly run through that because it feels like you do you have an enviable hunting schedule i'm envious i'm envious you know i have nothing going on i don't i don't i don't have cameras out because i won't be here when we have to pull yeah that's really unfortunate that part i told you at polo you're gonna have four or five i don't want to make you do that some of them you got to ride what does it matter 100 109 versus you ain't getting a truck to it man okay i'm out yeah i know that's what i'm saying it's not fun devon i'd walk 100 miles it'd be a full day for you and that would be devon when you put your hunting future in 48 or nine states in the fate of somebody else while you're oh i missed one 5 000 miles from here or wherever

you're going camera number nine for some reason i couldn't find it i had 12 up there i only got 11 and it's crushing cell pics the whole time it's gone to a lab cell yeah that's i ain't i ain't risking that not happening i know you lose your license for hunting license i'm just gonna is what it's gonna take is just more it's just gonna be more days mornings and nights and more glass yeah i know which sometimes i think like it's better some of the bugs i get we think we mentally think we get everything with cameras and we you do some bucks will hit one water like in a rotation once a month and we only got two months really to identify what they are and i'm like and then you start glassing and you see the tracks and you see different little places they can get water i'm like if i would have known i could have been looking on this side the whole time and yeah i had a lion move a deer

but i didn't know about this water and so then and then when i learned about the water the next year and then the deer was on that new water that i didn't know about the next year i'm like man if i'd have known then what i know now you know what i mean you haven't had a tag there since probably yeah i haven't had a tag since just but it makes you or it irks you bad yeah i know last year i was tasked to maybe collect a camera or two for somebody that had a limited entry deer tag that was gone to alaska or something i think it seems like i did have i considered just walking up and turning them in and walking away i just found a camera right here called this limited entry unit mr brownson here's a ticket for 43 cameras luckily i recorded the conversation and the affirmation that yes those will be down by the 30th i do remember that i remember the very specific instructions and i'll bet

if you i'll bet if you look at my in reach log i enriched him on the 31st to say confirm down yes or no there was there was confirmation there was confirmation see i mean i protect i know how to protect myself that's funny you never know your friends are the ones that are going to take you down at that point when i left nobody's at that point they were josh's camera i laid the foundation i hereby give you these cameras july 30th and we found the most amazing we found the most amazing 300 inch tag and he wouldn't shoot it oh remember that he didn't even hunt it yeah it was amazing i was like why not why wouldn't you i kill bucks just for their eye guards and it had like 45 on each side it did it might should have but it just oh did you guys hear that you can probably hear that let's move along before we lose power throw a little dark brooks right there all right so thunder

thunder rolls so as we get cranking here okay as we get cranking here let's talk to an archery deer hunter last year travis and erica taylor husband wife combo went out and smashed a couple great bucks i'd just like to hear the story verbally and throw it out here on the podcast super good people are they both going to get on i don't think so i don't know though i don't know what his schedule's like he just he's like might be fun hit me up all right here we go be fun getting one of the other's perspective on it the other one is trying to hone in on a certain thing sometimes you mess with marriages so we'll let them deal with who's gonna rat who out what happened hello hey are you pulled over or you at a place you can talk for a minute yeah yeah i could talk for a minute nice all right well i just kind of wanted to with the

archery deer hunt coming up and whatnot we just thought maybe it'd be good to have you guys on or you on and kind of tell your story it's pretty awesome rare do you get a husband wife team do what you guys did yeah pretty awesome all right thanks so so for those of you listening we got travis taylor uh travis nerica's taylor's story was featured in the epic outdoors magazine april the nevada issue and just slammed a couple of great bucks archery wise and uh of course in somewhat of a tough year i mean it wasn't it wasn't a phenomenal year wasn't bad but it you know sure wasn't easy and so so anyway just kind of to set the stage for for what we're talking about all right um do you want the long story or you want a short version uh maybe in the middle and okay don't leave out any of the good stuff okay all right well uh yeah we we drew the tags we put in as a as a group and

and got super lucky and drew the tags and i mean really lucky we should not have drawn them and was this on a uh group application or just yeah group out yeah it was it was the day before i changed i changed my choices and decided to do a group with her sounds like something jason would do last minute what do you mean well i mean how many times do you amend your nevada application 10 or 15 but it's free and it's fun yeah so don't question that's right anyway i'm the same way i i'd change it so my brother would be like what'd you put in for and i'm like i don't remember where i'm at right now i don't know where i landed 27 archery who knows yeah terrible bag all right but but uh yeah so so we shouldn't have drawn the tags but we did and got super lucky and and uh just started pounding with cameras and i i don't have a lot of cameras but my brothers and my nephew

they all helped me out doing a bunch and and i put cameras out pretty much anywhere i i like to hunt and a few other places and like you said it wasn't a great year there wasn't a whole lot yeah of great bucks but i got a picture of my buck on june 20th and he was you know you couldn't tell what he was yet but he was wide and heavy and i was already kind of crazy about him and so i spent a lot of time looking for him and and i never found him scouting i never saw him one time until opening day so if it's so if it's july 17th and we don't have a buck that we're crazy about you had a buck you were crazy about june 20th we probably don't have a buck to hunt yeah okay okay but a buck you're crazy about is like 220 plus where you know your guys's bucks would do just fine but yeah so and then there was a drop time buck on the same water that erica was crazy about

yeah and so we we ran ourselves ragged uh looking for him and never found him and then opening morning we were spread out through there and we were the only ones there it was just me and her and my brother jason and a buddy were all there and before it was even light enough to see really erica called me on the radio and she was all frantic i thought she must have sat on a rattlesnake or something just the voice you know but she was like i i got two bucks and i'm pretty sure one of them is valhalla which i we named him valhalla because i was listening to a song called valhalla calling the first time we went to look for him okay is that good music what kind of music is that it's like viking rock you know josh is over here you listen to that no i know what valhalla means oh okay josh is just over here grinning like yeah josh that has my stuff his eyes are rolling back in his head

all right yeah sorry sorry sorry no i i just told her i said well that buck is calling me so i'm gonna call him valhalla okay so anyway she said i'm pretty sure one of these bucks is valhalla so anyway make a long story medium um i put a stock on him that morning and i got pretty close but just before i was able to poke out poke my head out to where i'd have a shot uh the wind shifted and he bolted and didn't see him again that day and um let's see so the first and and we could only hunt weekends we couldn't get a lot of time off work and stuff like we maybe get a friday or a monday off and get a three-day weekend but so that first weekend we actually saw the the drop time buck also yeah that first day but it was too late to make a stock so we had to go back to work and i had heard that some other people were going to be in there looking for that buck um and so i was just watching

instagram all week hoping i didn't see a picture of him yeah but um we went back out uh on thursday evening and actually thursday evening my wife put a stock on the drop time buck and she got about 80 yards from him but just ran out of light and couldn't couldn't didn't have enough time but um so the next morning there was like people everywhere in there it seemed like there was there was people all over and so we were we were pretty discouraged and come to find out it was just it was just one outfitter and they had 100 and like three guides i think all spread out through there and so i was i was discouraged definitely and and then about an hour into the into glassing i found six bucks just traveling through a wash yeah and uh um i couldn't tell what they were they went they went into a little wash

and so i figured they were going to pop up over the little ridge yeah so i was just watching for them and sure enough they helped they popped up and i could tell instantly that valhalla and the drop time buck were both in the group and so now i was like panicking because they were in the sunlight in the open just kind of milling around feeding a little bit and so i was scared to death these other guys were gonna see them you know and and so i'm watching them but i have my wife standing between me and the guy that could see me so he doesn't you know know that i'm looking in only one spot and she keeps looking over at him and he's looking all around but i don't know if he's trying to he's doing the same thing we're doing you know like they've seen them but don't want us don't want to draw attention to where they're at

so i didn't know what to do finally they they dropped down in the wash i knew they were gonna bed down and we waited a while and and eventually i'm like well i don't think these guys have seen him because the one guy was kind of packing up looked like he was gonna leave so we just decided we were gonna see what we could do yeah so we we uh we went we got got eyes on all of them bedded down in the wash during that little canyon and my buck was was like down below the rest of them him and he was always with this one three by four those two were down lower than the rest of them and so i wasn't really confident because i wanted to come from above them but those other bucks were all above them so i just i just decided i'm gonna try and go in the bottom of the wash and see what happens there there luckily there was this one big boulder that blocked their view of the bottom of the wash

so the whole whole time i'm traveling up through there they couldn't see me and um so i took my time and i took my boots off and had my little moccasins on and just just worked my way up in there and i got to where i was 55 yards and i now i could see i could see the right side of his rack sticking up and so i just would slowly take like a half a step to my right every few minutes and i could see now i could see his both sides of his rack i can see the top of his back um but there was one little bush that blocked his face so he couldn't see me it was just crazy lucky you know yeah and uh so i i stood there in the sun on the rocks with my bow i mean i had an arrow knocked and my release hooked on everything for i don't know at least an hour and a half i was just standing there and finally uh they got up and kind of moved a few steps and

and i drew back and shot him and i didn't know i i felt pretty good about the shot but i didn't really know where i hit him or how good i hit him and he took off running and i just sent another one trying to anchor him you know and then he he ran he ran a ways and i could see he stopped i could just see him over this one tree and his ears were drooping and he was hunched over i knew he was hurting and my wife my wife and my little brother were watching they couldn't see me but they could see the deer and i had my earpiece in with my radio and they're they're trying to tell me but i wasn't really listening to them they're they didn't i didn't know how good i hit him and they're trying to tell me like hey you hit him you hit him good just just wait he's gonna die but i i was just i just had like tunnel vision i guess and it was kind of staticky i'd have to kind of work to hear it

but anyway so i i run up on the side of the wash where i could see him and i was like 85 yards at that point and so and he didn't move so i knew he was hurting so i was going to take the time to range him again and get a good shot so i ranged him and i had my i had my sight dialed to 88 yards so when i ranged him and he was at 85 i didn't adjust it i'm like oh that's close enough and so i shot again and i just hit like the very top of his back like right it went right in between the little the his spine but not you know didn't hit his spinal cord it's in the void or whatever yeah and uh so then he turned and started going up the hill and he just he stopped and he just started doing the death wobble and i thought he was gonna go down and i was like oh awesome and then the freaking tough sucker just kept walking and uh he went he went out of my sight but not very

very far and they watched him bed down and so at that point i was very dehydrated i hadn't had water for hours and it was hot so i asked my wife can you come bring me my pack and some water and so while she's on her way to me my little brother gets me on the radio he's like hey he's up and i was like you gotta be kidding me i thought sure he's you know dead by now and he walked like five feet and just nose dived into the ravine and then he he couldn't see him but he was pretty sure he died so anyway once once erica got to me we walked up there and he was dead he was wedged in between some rocks and it was it was awesome i mean it was i've never i've never been able to kill a buck that i had on camera and had that much history with and so it was it was that's that's hunting you know yeah yep yeah it was it was so cool to finally get my hands on him and and

touch his hook cheater and you know just yeah it was it was awesome yeah that's awesome well doesn't get better than that now it's her turn what happened then yeah yeah so so then we went out this next part of it just at least just reading the story was like just i don't want to say the gift like it was it was meant to be you know yeah yeah so we kept hunting for the for the drop time buck and she was i mean she was dead set on the drop time buck and she's only killed one deer before in her life and never with anything with a bow so i'm thinking she's gonna start lowering her standards a little bit because there was some some other decent bucks we were seeing but every time she's like nope nope i just want the drop time buck and um so it was the next weekend we saw the buck that she killed saturday morning and she saw him and i didn't i didn't even look at him through the

vinyl she she was looking at him and she's like nah his fork suck i don't want him so i'm like all right and then later that day she told me something about his eye guards he had awesome eye guards and i was like wait a minute you're telling me it's that one with the crazy eye guards she's like yeah but his fork suck and i was like holy crap like i was i was willing to hunt the whole season only for vahala and go home empty-handed but i've killed a lot more deer you know i i thought for sure she would be be willing to settle especially when it was a pretty sweet buck anyway we hunted the whole weekend couldn't find the drop time buck so sunday evening she decided she wanted to go try and find that eye guard buck again and so she uh she called me on the radio about 6 30 6 or 6 30 something i don't

late in the evening and she's like oh you want to come over here and help me kill this eye guard buck and i was like yeah if you if you're down you know i didn't want i felt like i felt like maybe she was unsettling because i i couldn't believe that she didn't want to kill him before but she was she was like no i'm watching and he's he's pretty impressive i think i want to try so she told me where to go so i could get eyes on him and then she just started working her way towards him and i was like there's no way she's gonna she's gonna get to him in time like it she's got a long way to go and it's getting close to dark and then that buck just he just stopped feeding and just started traveling down the wash like straight towards her it was it was crazy like you said it was like a gift like it was

just meant to be crazy and uh so i wasn't watching i i i lost her because i was only watching the deer because i didn't want to lose him but i was i told her on the radio i said you guys got to be getting close to each other and so she's she started looking around and then she saw his antlers coming over over little rise in the wash at like 50 yards so she starts fumbling with her with her release and she was so she was like so nervous and excited she couldn't she could not get it hooked on to her to her dealer and uh it took her took her a little while to get it hooked on and by the time she did the deer was only 20 yards away and it went went right behind yeah just still coming right almost straight towards her it was just kind of quartering quartering two and it went behind a big cedar tree

and so by the time it walked out from the cedar tree it was at 10 yards and it had no idea she was there and she's at full draw now so she just put it put the put the pins on him and and smoked him and then he about smoked her he about ran her over she had to jump out of the way and wave her arms to keep from getting run over and uh so i came down to where she was and she was just i mean she was shaking and just the adrenaline flowing you know she she it was it was pretty funny to be honest but um we couldn't find any blood we found well we found one splotch of blood and that was it and so yeah i don't it was eventually we found him and the arrow was stuck in him and so i don't know if it just just plugged up the hole yeah that's crazy yeah but he didn't go very far and when i was up watching i lost him but i could hear him and i thought he went on this one side hill and then

he stopped running i thought i heard him go down so we searched on that side hill forever till our headlamps were going dead and then we we went home and you know we were pretty bummed out she was just she was pretty pretty upset and you know i'm starting to think maybe the shot was a little further back it's a quartering two so if it's not right at the shoulder it might be gut shot and um anyway the next day we searched for a few hours we were gridding that whole hillside and i went back up on the point i was on the night before just a glass and see if i could find him you know see if i could see his antlers sticking up or something and i was walking back down to the road um after a while and i looked up and he was just dead like 25 yards across the road geez and he he hadn't gone far from the night

before he just it was just a different direction than i thought i heard so we never really checked there and he was he was dead she was she was so excited it was it was pretty special especially both of them were 30 inch over 30 wide and over 40 inches of mass so it was it was pretty cool yeah that's gonna be hard to duplicate right there yeah really no matter just drawing tags i can't get over the eye guards like how long are those how much of eye guard is on that deer oh man like four and a half inches on the one side on the one eye yeah yeah on the one and then the other side he had double four i i can't remember now i think it was like 10 inches of eye guards at least yeah well easy i i can't remember now i remember thinking if my buck had that had those eye guards 200 inches yeah well yeah that that makes

up a little bit of weak forks you throw yeah yeah exactly she look at that the deer she was she was like holy cow i can't believe i didn't want to shoot him yesterday well we've been in that country and it just like reliving it the way you were talking about and they just killing it the whole kill scene it just you can't have enough of those kill scenes yeah we need to do this all the time i'm with you i mean just draw a tag on the snap of my finger yeah we need to do this how are we gonna do this more often that's that bucks that's gotta be more than 10 inches yeah but what's a mate yeah i can't remember yeah well it's just i mean two great bucks i mean just stud bucks husband wife combo pretty awesome story just fun kind of gets you charged up geez yeah it does so you guys got anything to look forward to this year no one didn't draw out well together

any big game or just sage grouse um my my son has a youth tag oh there you go and so we're we're he's never hunted with a bow before but he's getting this year so we're we're gonna try it out see if we can get lucky a second year in a row well cool i mean in in his his area he can still hunt all three seasons you know but but we we found a pretty nice buck that he wants to try i mean nothing crazy big but no he's at he's actually kind of similar to my buck he's got a cheater and he's we definitely don't we have definitely not found bucks that we need to kill these guys are talking about cheaters that's not a revelation that i didn't already know are you seeing good antler growth out there overall um i mean i've only seen a couple that were that got me excited you know and on camera i don't really have anything feels anything very big

i was looking forward to that but anyway it just prompted me you got to start with like devon said 30 inches and if you can't get that you got at least start with two dudes drawn the same tack and you and whyatt got them like let's make a memory it's really hard right now hey these guys however this family this trish or erica and travis did it that is felt hard to duplicate like i said talking to him go try doing that again it's really hard they they did well did a lot of work a lot of preparation but for that to come together we all know what killing big deer by the bow takes not easy a little bit i don't know i just talking not to change the subject on that though you know we've talked about uh like antler growth in general and we had some predictions earlier this year and what might be one way or another and such and i don't know some deer it's hard it's so hard to tell right now

because deer sometimes grow quite late sometimes you grow a lot late like meaning a lot of inches yeah so you so you never know but but overall i would say you know we talked a lot about elk and and maybe having a lack of winter you know talking down here in southern utah central southern utah in general but a little bit of a lack of winter those bulls not having to go fight through snow and stuff all winter it seemed like the elk really started growing early fast and got big fast i mean there were a lot of bulls that you could tell what they were going to be first of june yeah they were yeah yeah they were big big by mid-june there were a lot of bulls that only had an inch or two on their beams and fifth or something left to go like it was pretty crazy to see and and with that you know the mountain

the top of the mountain stuff greened up really fast so they were on they were on green grass from the day they shed their shed their antlers this year it's essentially from where if they were lower and stuff and shed and and on top and they look really good this year the elk do so i don't know something to think about in your application strategy stuff in mind kind of trying to keep in mind maybe more quote-unquote drought type years or maybe not a lot of snow type years might be a year you want to look at for elk in general i think in general we figured deer would be average at best but not phenomenal i mean i don't feels like nobody said feels like we've just seen sometimes you get surprised but it feels like there was no way this was going to be a surprisingly incredible deer year just too dry throughout the fall and winter that's good to winter well they also just take a lot longer

it feels like to have their body condition in good shape before they grow or elk yeah they bark i mean they can live on them high needles yeah literally they can get on i mean it feels like elk and coyotes will live anywhere yeah and yeah good condition is even better but man like i said they wintered easy and they roamed wherever they want and then we started getting rain the first of march until june which is exactly when you need it for elk yeah we had some crazy moisture right there we don't normally get yep all right devon lead us off lead us off what are we doing on monday again well we're gonna sign in all of our rifles cash is like are you guys are you guys going we're gonna do it did we say monday we were thinking more like tuesday that's right but i hate to say it out there because somebody might be out there paying targets for us jeez the cash logan cash is cash is

sdc or koa what i don't remember yeah that little koa what'd you do with the little swarrow one you got women and children it's somewhere yeah we know i got a friend that has that one now so what what happened was i had a friend that took that that atc on a hunt really loved that thing for backcountry like you know he was taking his horse in and stuff just needed a scope to get a little extra magnification over his 12s and so he really wanted that and i kind of needed to be a mild pirate i guess you could say sometimes because i don't know if you know the distance of a corolla window but it's pretty small so to try and get enough to fit your forehead yeah try to try and get a head especially through an angled scope oh it was it was angled yeah it was so you went to a straight i went to a straight so i'm picking up what you're putting down so i went to the straight so i could

use it off a window mount a little easier yeah so but yeah it's been great but those bucks they hit the trees before the sun hits them do you have to even kill the engine and that thing you just let it no it it kind of growls these days it's got like 500 000 miles on it yeah well when it stops at 299 999 who knows what it's got yeah that's the least of my words the good thing is you don't have to pass any inspections anymore no no but when you're parked precariously wrong direction of the highway and semis are rolling up on you and anyway gotta be quick all right so yeah we've seen them pollock's been phone scoping stuff if you didn't phone scope it it didn't happen exactly that's the first thing no i saw a good buck this one where's the video that where's the video i mean he he talks about uh that buck you saw a couple days ago that he said didn't have jack for points but had a
