EP 394: The New Swarovski AT Endura and the Epic Mobile App Launch

Bronson, why is John so ornery on Magazine Week? I don't know. My job's done. I know John's still got lots to do and he's not in a good mood for three days after. There's a lot of crack in the whip, you know? Yeah, but hey, aren't we like four days early? I don't feel bad about it. We did our job. Aren't we like four days early? Yeah, well, we're always early. John, why is it that you ask Adam and I to get our stuff 14 weeks in advance to you? Because, you know, I've worked with you guys for a long time and then we're all good. Yeah, parade, 4th of July. First time with the, well, first time when she's standing on her own faculties and chasing candy amongst cars running around and all that. Trying to get her to get a little more aggressive, but. Where is she? Devin was just talking about how his lack of being able to hike the mountain and I called that hashtag dad life. Welcome to dad life. It gets worse.

There's some trends there. Hey, there's things that are more important. It's all good. Yeah. It's fun. You guys both have articles, Cash. Speaking of Cash and Devin in this next magazine coming out. Yeah, my job's done. My job's done too. Actually, I think we were supposed to do something, but now that I'm thinking about it. Yeah. We'll get to it. We'll get to it. Later today. So that magazine's coming out next week, right, John? Yeah. Logan's the only one that hasn't got his finished. Logan? I have. I have excuses. Logan, have you been doing anything? Why am I not surprised? I haven't been working. We were at lunch and I said something about it. I was like, did you have one? Logan's like, oh, crap.

I did. I did have one. Did you? That's funny. Well, we'll get to what you've been up to here not too long. Well, first off, let's just talk about this new offering from Swarovski Optic. Yeah. This is no joke. It's an AT Endura 21 to 65 power by 75 millimeter objective. Very unique in that I can't think of another 75 millimeter objective out there. Maybe there's one. Used to be some 77s over the years. Yeah, the Televid 77, the old Leica. But anyway, so we've got Colby on from Swarovski, our rep at Swarovski. Such a great guy. And, of course, everybody that's listening has heard him before. Talk about new products, old products, all kinds of things, changes at Swarovski. Colby, can you hear us? I can hear you going about the great guy part. Well. Take the mic, Jason. Yeah, I. He do. Anyway, so this is the AT Endura, the 21 to 65. We were just looking through it, actually, Colby.

So kind of compared it and whatnot. But at the price point, it's a pretty incredible piece of work right there. It's awesome. We're kind of excited about it. It kind of fits that niche, a little bit less expensive, but still that Swarovski quality product, aluminum housing, one piece, only available and angled. But I just kind of want you to – I guess I'm just teeing it up for you to go ahead and take over and tell us what a great item it is. Sure. No, I appreciate it. Yeah. One thing we've realized lately is that all of the innovation we've done in the past, well, I don't know, 10 years or so has always kind of been at the highest end of the quality spectrum for us. So we keep pushing what's possible. We keep pushing, you know, the specs where we'll have a wider field of view and, you know, more zoom range or whatever.

And what that's done is it's pushed the price points of all of our products up as well. So usually when we come out with something, it's like at the very highest point in the market. But we have some really good legacy products that have always kind of been there, like our ATS, STS spotting scope range that we've honestly – I mean, it's probably 25 years old with very few changes. We made a couple of changes to the housing. Like one of your longest standing SKUs, really. Yeah, it's crazy. In fact, it's probably – it's been on the chopping block a few times. It's like one of these days it's going to stop selling and we're going to stop, you know, making it. But it just has always sold so well because it's been such a good value and a high-performing scope. But it was time to kind of refresh that.

So we really kind of went back to the drawing board and we thought, how can we make this a better value, retain the optical quality, and put it out with a little higher functionality than the ATS, STS, and potentially bring the price down, which is always difficult. So it's, you know, cost of materials and cost of engineering and all that is very expensive. So it's pretty tough to bring something out that functions very well and increase the utility of it and to also lower the price. So that's what we've done with this AT Endura. It replaces the ATS, STS line, which we had a 65 and an 80. A couple of different eyepiece options. And this is kind of the best of all of those together. A really similar optical setup to the ATS, STS. Really good wide zoom range. It's got a little over 3% or 3 times zoom range. So it's a 21 to 65. Super useful. We hit the middle of the objective size with a 75.

We wanted to make this scope both kind of a good all-arounder. Right now, like it just kind of hits the middle. You hit 65 power instead of 60. Traditionally, it seems like 60 is kind of the go-to. You know, 70, of course, is that top end. So this hit 65 and then a little bit bigger objective maybe to let in just a little more light than, say, a 65-millimeter objective. You know what I mean? Sure. But still maintaining light and I guess somewhat compact. It's just that middle of the road. Yeah, and it is fairly compact. And one of the things we really focused on was the weight of this optic. It actually weighs a little bit less. It's about 53 ounces. So it weighs a little bit less than the 65, the old 65 version used to. And the way we got there, we did a couple of things. The eyepiece is not removable.

It doesn't have a removable eyepiece, which gets rid of a lot of engineering and gets rid of a lot of extra material, you know, to make the bayonet and make it, keep it waterproof and sealed and all that. If we can keep the eyepiece from coming off, it's easier to make it sealed. That's what's been shocking to me is these removable eyepieces have been dustproof, waterproof. You know what I mean? And it's just like, I don't understand quite how you guys do that or any of the companies do that. It just seems like it would let water in. But anyway, the single piece just not being removable does seem good. You know what I mean? Yeah, simpler to build, simpler to design. And then another thing we did, it's an aluminum housing. So we typically use like our ATX, STX line, which of course is staying around. It's our top of the line spotting scope.

That's got a magnesium housing or in the case of the 95 objective at this point, a carbon fiber housing. A lumen is a little less expensive, a little easier to work with. And so that's a little bit of savings there as well with really no real functionality decrease. But kind of the coolest thing we did, I think it's the coolest thing because I'm kind of an optics geek, is typically the objective lens is on a spotting scope or most optics is actually a doublet. It's two lenses that are machined, one concave and one convex. And they sit right together in the optical system, like touching each other, almost look like one lens. And those are the, besides the prisms, those are the heaviest pieces of glass in the whole system. And glass is a very heavy part of the system.

So we, the second lens in that doublet, instead of putting it right up against that front lens, we've moved it back in the optical system a little bit, which allows us to make it a bit smaller because that light path narrows as it goes back through the scope. So it's a little bit smaller lens, really no optical difference or any loss of anything. It just allows us to take a few ounces off. We also used a different type of glass. I'm not 100% sure what we call it or how we refer to it, but it's a little bit different type of glass in a few of the lens elements. It's actually lighter weight. The glass itself is actually a little bit lighter weight. So it gets us to that 53 ounces, which is a great, affordable, like you can throw it in your backpack, take it wherever, and still have all the functionality of a full size, you know, scope.

So it, like if you were to compare it to the ATX STX line, it doesn't have the modularity of that, which reduces the complexity. But it also, from an optical standpoint, it doesn't have quite the same field of view. It doesn't have quite as long eye relief. It's not quite as flat to the edges as the ATX STX. But it's also significantly less expensive. Oh, yeah. It really gets a great price point. It's like $1,000 less. It's like $1,000 less. From the X series, probably, I don't know, depending on your objective. But the ATX, it would be a lot different. $1,000. Yeah. And those are $1,000. Yeah. Yeah. It's less expensive than what it's replacing, which is typically not something that you see from us. I don't see that. You don't see them making new trucks every day that are cheaper than the old trucks, Jason. Right. I don't know. What about that new little Ford?

What's that tiny little thing? The Maverick. The Maverick. Come on. I mean, is that even a truck? You're going to be caught driving one of those cars. I'm sorry. Colby, do you own one first off? That's a car. Okay. Right on. Right on. That piece of garbage. I'm just teasing. They are tiny little trucks. But anyway, never even driven. 10 likes and I'll pull up to work in one tomorrow. Oh, come on. Come on. Hey, Colby, I have a question.

Yeah. How'd you guys settle on angled? Oh, thanks. Yeah. Because 80% of our sales, Devin, are angled. Hey, let him answer the question. It's actually close to 20%. I asked Colby. It's almost closer to 85% or 87%. It is so sad. Adam, we're one of like 30% or 15% to 13%. What are we going to do when all the good ones are gone? Yeah. What are we going to do? I don't know. Did you say 87%? Don't sell any straights you got. Don't sell any straights you got. The world's changing, boys. No. It ain't. It ain't.

You're right. You're right. There's less big deer out there. You're right. There's less big deer on the landscape. And another decision that was purposely made to reduce the complexity of the engineering and the manufacturing. You would think straight would be simpler. Yeah. It's hardly simpler than me. Yeah. I don't know. It's hard on the neck, I think. Come on. Straight. I'm the oldest here, and I have no neck problems. Well, Devin, you should have no neck problems. You're five foot. What are you? How tall are you? Five, eight and a quarter. Every tripod fits you. Yeah. Just teasing. I can tease you and Kobe both. Yeah. Does this go to standing height? Yeah. For you. Well, this is pretty awesome. I guess, obviously, Swarrow's kind of excited about it. I mean, so you get a Swarrow product. Let's call it a mid-range spotter for Swarrow. Really, it's top end for, say, the industry.

But that mid-range for Swarrow at under $3,000. Under. Well under $3,000. Yeah. And I pulled the specs real quick, if I'm not mistaken. I think you might have said it earlier, Colby. But just the ATS 80 came in about 50. Is it 57.8, Logan, or 52.8? 57? 57.8, yeah. Ounces. Ounces. That's the combo weight. So that's the combo weight. So, I mean, that's closest to an 80 versus the 65. So it's lighter than the 80, which you might expect. It's a little bit smaller in an objective lens. But anyway, just to give everybody a reference out there listening. 75 versus 80, you're right there. It's very comparable in terms of what you'd expect from that. But another 5 power, too. You're at 65 top end. Yeah. I think that's a huge deal. Yeah. Yeah. You get that crisp morning light, you can use it. You can use the 70 power on the 95 when you need it.

We were just looking through it, and we're super impressed. Colby, have you tried it, crack a daylight hours? Yep, I have. I've been playing with it for a couple of months now. It's – I'm used to using the ATX. ATX 85 is what I use most of the time. So that's the closest comparison I can make to it, and it hangs right there. You're not giving up anything. Of course, you can always turn my medication down. I always judge things that – is it going to cost you an animal? Right. That's the way I look at it. Like, is it going to cost me an animal? If it is, then I'm going to pay more money and have a better product. Yeah, no, it's solid, good functioning scope. It pushes light through really well. That 75-millimeter objective is kind of a sweet spot.

How did you guys – do you know how they settled on that? That's a unique spot. I don't 100% know how we settled on it. My guess is it probably was reverse-engineered from a weight goal. Like, we wanted to keep the weight low enough to make it an all-arounder, right? And it probably just ended up that way. But it kind of is the best of all of the features of the ATS-STS series that sold so well forever. It's super durable. That scope, you almost couldn't kill it. We had – interesting about the scope it replaces, about durability, we had several of them up on top of the Space Needle in Seattle. And they've been up there for 20 years. And every, I don't know, several years, they would send them back into us. We'd refer them and put them back out there. And, you know, if a bunch of tourists in Seattle can't kill the thing, then I don't think – I was probably one of those guys.

One of mine's – it's bulletproof. They are. I got a 65 when I backpack sheep on. That's what I take, 65-STS. Emphasis on STS. Yeah. One of the 13 to 15%. One of the 13. It's sad. I don't know. I'd like – I need to count to – I need to – we need to talk to your people. Well, you're – are they just extrapolating that from a very small sample size out there or what? And only foreigners to us. I don't know. People outside the U.S. I never got a survey. Hey, what do you use? I've never got one for tomorrow. Well, we have many years of sales. I was going to say, I'll bet they have some data. We just need a straight BTX. That's what we need. Oh, my heavens. How would you even use it? Where else do you find an angled bino? I tease Colby about this all the time. I know. I'm not going to bring it up anymore. All right. Well – I think you just did. I did. I did.

more resilient than the older generations. Whoa, yeah. And so we're making better, more informed decisions. And they have better work ethic. Right, Logan? Yes. Just look at – I mean, you guys – Jeez. Self-proclaimed. Did he just say better decision-making process? Did he actually say that? I don't care what he said. All right. That's not true. He pulled himself. I mean, this is off no data at all. I'm just looking at myself.

There's documentaries on myself. You could probably break it down into Gen Z, millennial, boomer, or whatever. Yeah. I don't know the other – X. What do you mean? X. You guys are Xers. It's stuck to me and Jason and John. You know, the millennials – At some point, they're going to call us the retired guys. I don't know. Retired guys. They like kinking their head when they're on a window mount, you know, and so they're looking sideways. Well, they just don't know any different. They don't know any different, so they just do whatever these social media influencers are doing. Yeah. And they don't care. Like, they have no old habits because it's one of the first few times they've looked through a scope.

It's true. My dad was an angled scope user my whole life. And so that's – I watched my dad do it, and now I'm old enough, I'm going to do what dad did. Well, could you ever – if you used a scope, could you ever switch? Yeah, it's just unnatural. I do remember switching. I bought a Telebit 77, and it was angled. And for the first while, I felt like a total idiot. But I use a straight Telebit 77. You mean straight. Yes. Straight. Mine was angled. But I had a straight before that. And I had a straight Tele. I don't even know what it was. But to make that switch – So add another 15 years or more to that. Are you now angled? Are you now? No. For you guys to switch, it would drive you insane. No, we can't. You couldn't do it. I didn't ever try it. It's almost as bad as going from Android to an Apple phone. I did that one time. You were Android? I'll put it into perspective.

Go put your right-handed bow down and say, I'm going to start shooting left. Yeah. No, it's true. It would be the same thing. Like, you'd be sitting there hunting with people, and they're like, oh, there's that buck. And I'd be like trying to find it. But here's a hat. And they're like, oh, look, he's got a kicker on his right side. And I'm like, oh, I'm on the wrong mountain. I'm on the wrong hill. Like, for weeks. We were looking at flags over here, all looking at the same amount. We looked at two different flags. Two different churches. There's a couple churches and a lot of flags. I'm using four flags. Okay. You don't think we're real people, Logan? I thought I was kind of real. No, you're not. You're not. No. John and I, no. But did you kind of half hold your breath like, is this app going to crash? Yes. Yeah.

It's kind of like an adrenaline rush. Hit and go on that thing and just waiting for it all to come raining down. Devin calls it a sweating monkey. Sweating monkey. I knew you were going to say. From the sweating monkey. I was thinking that. Remember? You took the words right out of my mouth. I did when you looked at me. It's like, Logan, were you a sweating monkey? I was. I was. Yeah. You hit that goal button. You know what that is. Yeah, yeah. I missed the sweating monkey. If anybody's ever done a MailChimp email that tens of thousands of people. The little. You sweat a little bit. You know the little monkey. I hate sending out emails for that reason. Yeah. It's a sweaty experience. But anyway, what have you. What's the feedback been so far? People have been loving the app. The odds are really easy to use. It's very intuitive. I haven't.

I haven't gotten any questions about how do I do this? How do I use that? What does this mean? Point and click. So it's all seems to be very intuitive. Which is our main goal. They're going to point and click their way to tags. For big bucks. You know what I mean? I hope so. Yeah. I mean, you got comparative statistics. All kinds of things. Cash, you guys did a little clip on that. Yeah, you can save hunts and just toggle back and forth, compare stuff. Like there's so many small features in there that other people have just never thought about. And it's going to be so handy to just have in your pocket. Well, just know it'll be adaptive. I mean, the odds are going to update, you know, from now until December. You know, they're all updated for all the 2026 odds. So just know that, you know, it's an evolving, living, breathing app. Right, Logan? Is that how you'd put it? Yeah. Oh, yeah.

We're always adding new stuff. It'll always be up to date. We want it to be. So there's a few new odds from 2026 apps that, you know, obviously we're showing 2025 odds on a few. But when we updated it on our website, it gets updated on the app. Yeah, it's all, everything's the same as our website. It's all, it's all together. And that's what I was going to say. And speaking of it being together with our website, now during the summer that application season is kind of winding down, we've got a few points only things left, but we're kind of winding down on application season. Take a minute and get all your points tracked. If you're like me, you never track your points and you just hope you can remember what you've got. Well, our app and our website have a really good point tracking tool where you can go on our website, put your whole family in there, and then keep it maintained on the app.

Or do it all within the app. But it's a little easier to do your first batch on the website, create profiles for your whole family, add in their points, add in their state IDs. Just because you have a keyboard. This replaces my Google Doc. My point was, and I developed this feature with Devin, he's like, well, I don't want to switch softwares because I've got a Google Sheet that I manage my whole family on. That's what I got. And so we made it specifically so that he could go on his computer, double window it, and just boom, boom, boom, boom, all the way down with each one of his family members. It's the passwords even, the username. Everything's in there. But that's what I have, and I don't know if I could ever do that with my Google Sheet. I don't know either. I love my Google Sheet. Well, it's, we've, yeah, over 25 years. I did it. I added it all in.

And the nice thing about putting your points in the app is that in some states like Nevada, where you can directly calculate what impact your points have on your odds, it will tell you how your odds change and what your odds are based on your entered points when you save a hunt. What you have stored in the app. Yeah, so if you go and save a Nevada unit, just for example, you save a Nevada hunt, you go into your saved hunts, it'll say with your points, here's how your odds measured up to the most recent data. You've told me, you've got 10 points. You've told me, and here's your odds. I can't remember what states it does that in. There's quite a few, but it's really useful to have that information in there. Pretty awesome. Yeah. I think for me, it's mostly, it is nice to know the point levels. You do need to check them because you manually do that, but it's the passwords.

But we manually did it on our Google Sheets. We manually did it. I remember my wife, all this. Hunter's Ed numbers. You guys have driver's license for Ashley. All that stuff. MLS numbers. All of that is in the app. You can keep notes for each. If you've got kids you're applying for and you've got plans for them, you want to remember that, open up Colorado, start a new note, and write down what you want. I do. I have those notes. Type in the year and the date in Utah. The two-for-date expires. Yeah. Yeah. Stuff like that. Hey, when does the two-for-date expire in all these states? All of these. Right, Jason? Hey, that's real money. You and I both know this. We've got five or six apiece. Oh, dude. I did it. But, I mean, so all this is secure, obviously. Yeah, of course. Like, this goes without saying. Yeah. I'm just saying. Yeah. We use up-to-date encryption on all of our data.

So, you know, you can see what you can see and nobody else can. If Devin trusts it and he's got a bunker out on the Arizona Strip, I'm with Devin. Who's with Devin? I think I'm with Devin. You want to hack my state accounts and go buy me tags or, I mean, licenses, go for it. Send him tags. Let him come in the mail. They could get your credit card, though, and buy some something. Use your points on some janky cow tag in Wyoming or something. That would suck. It would. That would suck. I think we went overkill on the security a little bit when we were trying to figure out how long it would take a supercomputer to hack. It was like 17 trillion years or something. I don't think you could ever go too secure. I was fresh out of cybersecurity when I started this app. So, yeah, we went a little bit above and beyond. Oh, the cybersecurity class.

Like the classes and requirements you have to do for the degree. Yeah. Anyway, it's all up to date, very secure. And all these features you can get free for seven days. Try before you buy. We want people to see how awesome this app is, so go find out for yourself. All right. So we'll also have alerts and notifications as far as deadlines, draw results, things like that. Yeah. Maybe even easier to send out stuff where we don't feel like we're sending this text out. Sometimes we're a little intimidated to send out a text, like when some result comes out. But if it's a notification through an app. Boom. Yeah. Chime. Yeah. Can you set your ring, chiming notification, whatever you want. You can set your notifications to banners, to sound, to no sound. When draw results come out, somebody's having a 380 bull bugle, rip one from the mountain. Oh, yeah. That's a draw result. Yeah. Huh? Yeah.

Successful. All right. Maybe a buck grunt.

Iowa results are out. Somebody's looking at you like, what are you doing? Iowa results just came out. Brr. Brr. Brr. Brr. Brr. Brr. Brr. All right. All right. Moose results in Wyoming. Alaska moose is out. It just, it just, for a good 38 seconds. I mean, come on. Jeez. All right. So, moving right along, I guess. So, how's everybody scouting going? Good? We're getting after it. Devin, you got after it? Yeah. You didn't enjoy yourself? I actually did. I enjoyed myself. It wasn't too hot. Yeah. Just, it's dry. I mean, it's dry. I can't sugarcoat it. It's dry. No, it's really, it's gotten dry. It's smoky everywhere. You don't even hardly, like, if you could take a photo from last year to this year on the same tree, it looks like a whole other world. But what's interesting is the next unit over 30 miles away in Utah is different. Yeah. It's isolated.

These spring storms we talked about, they didn't hit uniformly everywhere. They hit here and there. Even in Nevada. You get parts of Nevada. Nevada, some places are gorgeous. And I'm like, holy crap. And then some places are like, oh. Yeah. And that's, I think, what's going on. And we're all super dry now that everything's baking. Firing and fires. Multiple fires in Nevada. Fires in Utah. Next week, we're supposedly going to get this surge of, it seems like I've said the word monsoon for four months. I don't even, every time you say it, and I do see some social media posts, I'm like, okay. They put a, they put a sandbagging machine down. Come on. At the Canyon Road in Beaver. Yeah. For people. I just saw the post today that they've got a machine full of sand and empty bags and you go. That needs to happen on Beaver because the whole mountain's going to shed water like crazy.

But that, I mean, that's, that would happen if you didn't have a monsoon season. I think people that have deer and elk tags in some of these places with fires are actually probably going to have pretty decent hunts. I think so. If the roads are open. Yeah. If the forests don't keep them closed, you know, you know, that's the, that's going to be the kicker. But I think the hunts, they happen, you know, earlier than most fire years. They don't usually crush it in June. They're usually July and August. So the fact that they happen in June, the Beaver fires, you know, winding down, hopefully the San Juan and others can start tapering down with these rains, hopefully if they hit and then just, yeah, get the trees off the road. Hopefully they're all open before the archery hunt. If not, maybe parts of the units will be. We'll see. Yeah, hopefully. Pretty fun. Yeah.

It's pretty impressive on the scouting. Honestly, there's some, there's some decent animals out on the landscape. Would you like to share any details? No. Or what are you just talking about? No. You're just talking in generalities. No. It's generalities. Okay. From what I've heard. And so anyway, it's, it's, hopefully it's a fun year. You know, we do need water. We always need water. We're going to need water until the day we're dead. You know, feels like we're in this long term drought, but, but with timely moisture at times, maybe some fall moisture we had, things like that, body conditions, there's a lot of reasons why, why, what creates good antler growth, so to speak. And so we're seeing some of that. And pretty awesome. Cash, you've been out a little bit? Yeah. Been out. Yep. How's it going? It's good. I, I've actually been comparing some pictures of, of animals that have come back.

Specific animals? Yeah. Yeah. What are you seeing? Ones that I recognize like from last year and a bunch of stuff. Oh, lump lump? Yeah. Oh, Freddie lump lump? Yep. Freddie lump lump. No, I've actually, I, the ones that I've looked at and compared, I would say growth wise, just the stage that they're growing in, I've found a lot that are about two weeks behind. Okay. You know, they were, they were this last year, or they looked like this. But they still have 18 inch fronts. Yeah. Same, same. Yeah. But a lot of them. Whatever. I don't know. You're talking elk? Like front? Yeah. Like for elk. I'm talking elk. Oh, okay. Yeah. I'm talking elk. Okay. Yeah. Mainly elk. All right. Yeah. I would say they're a week or two. So are you saying like, if Freddie lump lump had 18 inch fronts, he still has 18 inch fronts. Yeah. He's still got 18. But he's just two weeks behind as far as overall growth.

Yeah. Like his beam and his back end last year maybe was already six inches, and this year it's two so far. Hopefully they finish. So there's places in Nevada I'm seeing like almost fully grown deer. Yeah. Which is early for deer. You saw it. I showed you a couple of inches. I thought you didn't have any specifics. No, I don't. I'm talking generalities. This is just what he's heard. There are two deer that are fairly well developed. It sounded like I heard the words, I saw. Well. Instead of I heard. That's right. I have. Hey, I got in at 4.30 in the morning. Okay. Don't hold me accountable for anything I say or do. Right? It's been a grind. This trail camera season, I'm grateful when it's over actually. I'm grateful. They don't allow us to keep going. They tease me about that, letting the old man in. Jeez. They could not hang with me. They could not hang with me. Boy, you were saying last week something. You were out way late. She'll sleep and then wake up at the right times to put batteries and cameras. Yeah. So you're driving. Yeah. She's awesome. She can put her name on it. She's awesome. So is Sean. They're awesome. But it's just funny. When it's time to go home, she's like, really? She's like, wait. You're going to go home already? We're just getting started. Yeah. It's like. You slept on the way out. 11.45 on the way back. Or 2.30 in the morning. Yeah. You know what I mean. Anyway.

Undisclosed remote place. I'm leaving town. I'm leaving town. I'm going to head to somewhere wherever. Wherever you've heard things. Wherever you're hearing things. So anyway, you stop and get a drink, right? I mean, you've got to have one to stay awake. Are you like late in the morning? No, I'm actually getting up early and leaving for the full day. So 2 or 3 in the morning, maybe. Yeah. Approximately? Get up at 2.30 and leave at 3 approximately. All right. So you're at some remote place. Yeah.

So I go to this little gas station.

And it's fine. It's just there's nobody there. When I walk in the door, I can smell smoke. So I'm like, okay. So the attendant, usually there's one attendant. And usually I'm like one of the only customers for like an eight-hour period or whatever. You know what I mean? Well, midnight to 7 a.m. Exactly. Exactly. Six a.m. And so anyway, I stumble in there, grab gas, stumble in, grab a deal of ice, and grab some drinks or whatever. And, you know, I mean, if it wasn't for gas stations, we'd all starve to death, right? So anyway, what if we didn't have Mavericks? I'd be toast. It's true. I'd never have breakfast. Dude. Lunch or dinner. Yeah. True. You might put a disclaimer that this did not happen at a Maverick, just so you don't know. Yeah. This did not happen at a Maverick. It didn't, actually. I mean, because they have customers all night long throughout the day. And self-checkout.

And you have self-checkout. And self-checkout, which is what I'm taught. This is your problem. This is where we're going to go. So I smell smoke. Somebody's had a smoke break. Fine. I'm expecting to see an attendant. I see no attendant. I grab drinks. I come up to the register, and I'm like, there's no attendant. And literally, think about, like, looking at your watch or your phone and count down, like. Two minutes. No, like four minutes. Four. Or something. That's a long time. Like a legitimate four to five. You're sitting there. Counting to 250. Yeah, whatever, you know. And so anyway, I'm like, ah. That's good math. So, but they do that on purpose sometimes because you get more stuff to eat. Like, so you're looking around. Ah, take a little pie. I'll take a little sugar over here. Didn't you go over to the front door again? And did, did, ding, did, ding. Yes, I did that. I did that.

Nothing. No, nothing. They're gone. They're gone. Nobody's coming. And I'm like, okay, no problem. Like, it's fine. I'll just check out myself. Maybe there's a self-checkout. Yeah. I'll just check out myself. Here's the wand. You know, everything's good. Time to pay. Yeah, well, the credit card thing's lighting up. I stick my card in. Boom. And it says it's good, but you can tell. It's waiting for cashier. It says waiting for the cashier. Right. You know. Where's the cashier? And you're waiting. And I'm like, and you're not climbing over the counter because that's where the cigarettes are. And I think you're going to steal cigarettes. That's where CCTV comes in. Whatever it is. You know, and so I'm like, hmm. Okay, so there's a button on this computer, and I can hit that. It'll go. I'll walk out, and I'm good. You know what I mean? Charge my card, and I'm good. So I'm trustworthy, right?

Sure. Yeah. You know. Of course. Everybody knows I'm trustworthy, right? Yeah. So, I mean, these people don't know me from Adam. And there's 17 cameras on you. No pun intended. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, I look around at that computer, and I'm like. And it's like privacy screens, so you can just kind of see. Yeah, you can kind of see it, but you can't really get around without really. Climbing on top of the camera. Yeah, and making them think that you're stealing stuff. And there's this button over there, and it's this green button. And I'm like. No, the first button. The first button that I touched ranked doubled it. Oh. What did you do? So I had to go back and get another monster. Because you didn't know how to leave. Which is fine, because now I'm getting a deal. So I'm like, okay, fine. I grab another monster. And then I stick my credit card in. So fast forward to that part.

And then I reach around, and I'm like, okay, it's not that one. But there's a big green one, and it's like glowing. Telling me to touch it. Green just means pay. Telling me to touch it. Yeah. And so I'm like. And all of a sudden. And out comes the cash register. Wide open. Cash. Everywhere. Words, fives, tens, twenties, fifties, hundreds. Whatever you want. And I'm like. I'm like. Oh. This is how innocent people go to jail. Like, I mean, you could totally be framed here. How did this happen? The blood dream from your face. Dude, it was barely getting there anyway. It was 3 a.m. Yeah. I mean, I'm just barely waking up. And I'm like. Oh. Now this is. I've got real world problems. And this is the last place I have to have these drinks. Like, how am I. You know, it's early. And you're like. Did it go through? Yeah. All of that. Can I just shut it? And did it go through? And get out of here.

I know it doesn't go through until they. And then pretty soon time's out. Kick shot. Whatever. And I'm just like. What? I've got this cash. Open cash drawer. They're going to come out. See the open cash drawer. How did this happen? What are you doing? I'm standing there with guilt all over my body. It's red and black on your forehead. Yeah. And I'm just like. Oh, geez. And nobody comes out. I mean, nobody comes out. For how many more? Oh. A minute or two more? It felt like 10 or 15. But let's call it a minute and a half. Okay. And you know that makes that big noise and jerks open. You know, they stop it. They stop the register. With their hands. They hit check it. Yeah. I mean, this thing hit the end of the roller. Whacka! You know? Coin. Coin jangle. Yeah, exactly. And I'm like. Uh-oh. This isn't good. And do you go touch it? No. And do you shut it? No. Because you know you're on camera.

Well, that. But your hands and your hands. So I grab the drinks. I go back over by the door. And I sit there. And nobody's coming. And I'm like. I leave the drinks. And I walk out. And I'm drinkless. I'm foodless. I'm drinkless. I'm a lonely guy in a dream world. You might need some new pants. You just have to assume it didn't work. Because you don't want to know if your credit card transaction actually went through. You don't know if you can prove that. You don't know. I mean, you can look at your app. But I mean, it's really. I don't even think about that. And I'm just like. So I know my next food's like two, two and a half hours drive. You know? Food and drink or whatever. And I'm heading deep. So I'm like. Whatever. Fine. Fine. I can do this. So anyway. I go. You've got a whole walk. You've got a 50-yard walk out to the truck. Yeah. I get in the truck. I look.

The cash register's still wide open. Nobody's in the room. And I go to drive away. And then somebody's driving in to get gas or whatever. And I'm like. Good luck to that guy. He's got an open register. Somebody's going to walk in. Good luck. How much? He's going to be. That cash register guy's going to go. What are you doing? You know? That guy's going to be like. What do you mean? I get gas. Yeah. Well, my. Teal's open. If you had a guess. From the time you walked in the store and did all your thing. Got your drinks. All that. Went back. 11 minutes or something. Don't you? I don't know. I'm asking. I mean. Yeah. 10 minutes. And you open the door four or five extra times to chime it all up. Yeah. I mean. I don't even know. Yeah. But I mean. 10 minutes. I'm making noise. I'm making noise. I want him to come out. Yeah. You're opening and closing the door. It's dinging.

What if he's doing his chores? Or she. Don't even know who. Or she. You never saw anybody. Or maybe. Maybe they're just on the phone. Or maybe they're taking a nap. I don't know all of those things. My bet is they were asleep. Yeah. What if. What if they tripped in the back storage room. Hit their head. And you were the only one there. I looked for medical emergencies in the paper the next day. I don't know.

I just. Anyway. The whole time. That's when you're thankful for security systems. Right. Kind of. I want it. I want. That's when you're going to be vindicated. So you're thinking on Facebook. Adam's like. You know. The worst case scenario. Is they post a picture of you on Facebook. Leaning over the till. Who is this guy? Wanted. For questioning. Reward. Reward. Do you know this individual? This is how innocent people struggle. That's true. Dumb stuff. Dumb stuff. That's true. Dumb stuff. You know. And you went back. And Jana's like. You should have shut the till. And I'm like. You don't touch it. You don't touch it. Well. We talked about that. Your fingerprints. Can you imagine reaching over to do that right when they come out from behind the wall? Oh. And you're. Oh. I was just shutting your till. Oh. Sure.

And they don't want to tell the owners or managers. That they fell asleep. That they fell asleep. That the till. That they didn't have a code. They should have screen locked it so they have a code to get back in. If you're going to leave the till. Yeah. You screen lock it. Right. Or whatever. I've never worked at till. But. You assume. Yeah. Yeah. Your three digit employee ID. Something would have to hit before. Whatever. Whatever. Your badge. You walked away. People know how to use till. Not me. Not me. But some people do. Anyway. And she's like. I. It wasn't me. I didn't do it. And he's like. Whatever. You were here at 906. And you were at this location. And then we've got. This video footage of somebody stealing this package. And you couldn't tell. Like. You know. It was just a woman with. With long hair. And. Anyway. Luckily she had dash cam footage. That proved it wrong. Proved what? She was in a different place. That. That. She. She wasn't exactly right there. Well one was on Pacific time. She was on mountain. No. She. She was. She was in the area. Yeah. But just because she was in the area. Like. They were ready to press charges. And everything. Speaking of. But she had it. And. I mean. If she didn't have that dash cam.

They would have had it. Who drives around with a dash cam? I don't know. A lot of people do. Do you guys anymore? Yeah. Name five. I. Okay. I can't. But. The guy that did. Did my electric steps. And all that. He put in dash cams. Like it's his job. Okay. Okay. People are doing that. The more videos I've seen with dash cam stuff. Even old videos. The more times I'm like. I need to just have one. Just to protect yourself. You gotta have one. It proves your innocence. It takes one jake in a collision. And just like this. How often do people go in jail? Do they record. Do they record. Every time your truck starts. And you start driving. 24 seven. So. And it records over itself. It's a DVR thing. Yeah. So. It saves like 24 hours. And then records over itself. But they say like. What if you need to go back three days prior and retrieve it? Well you might be able to. Whatever memory you have.

Maybe it's a week. Yeah. It's a month. But I mean. You get in a wreck. I just. You're gonna look right up. I mean I know taxi drivers do it. It's like house monitors. They get robbed. They want that. House video cans. Oh yeah. Yeah. It's going over itself too. You know. Yeah. Well. Maybe. I'll pay for some on my street. Yeah. Yeah. I bet you will. I. Yeah. I bet you are. I bet you just did. What are these cameras from John? I'm the only one that hasn't heard this story. I haven't heard this story either. John. What are they called? You both have it? Fox cameras? No. Flock. Flock. Like a flock of birds. Like a. That's the. Bird of sheep. The brand. One of the brand names. I don't know if there's more than one. It's the one when you're watching. I mean. Yeah. My wife will watch a lot of British. You know. Really? Murder mysteries and crap. Really? Yeah. These modern shows.

All they do is they go sit down and they go look at the cams on the streets and find people running out. That's the modern day cops. Wow. They watch these cameras on the streets. Right? These drones. These are supposedly only for recognizing like license plates, vehicle color. Or. But a person. You know what I mean. You know the shows I'm talking about. And if it's used in another. They're going outside the bounds of what people thought they were. That's what we talked about the other day. That's probably how they. It's like. Think about. It's like ring. It's like ring doorbell cameras massing all of their data so they can put together what happens on every corner of every city in the last 24 hours. It's like a huge violation of privacy. So-and-so gets Amazon deliveries twice daily. Yes. You know what I mean. Well. And they have an AI. Comb all of that data. And they say. Okay. Well.

You own this dog. And it's three houses down. So your dog might be out of the fence. Like it's just. Very similar to Instagram whatever. You know. Ads and things that pop up. Oh. They know that you're a. Yeah. You're a 23 or 24 or 5 year old male interested in Legos. That's right. And you're going to have lots of Lego ads. Yes. And nothing else. Nothing else. All right. So.
