00:00:16:27 –> 00:00:22:00
Hey everybody, Jason Carter. Adam Bronson’s on the road. We’re gonna call him in a minute, but cash. How are you doing?
00:00:22:09 –> 00:00:22:24
Good, how
00:00:22:24 –> 00:00:24:22
Are you? Good. I’m doing good. Why you doing good? Yeah,
00:00:25:05 –> 00:00:25:16
I’m good.
00:00:25:26 –> 00:00:32:23
All right. Everybody’s healthy, right, John? Yeah. Nobody’s healthy. Nobody’s healthy in this office. Hey, I’m feeling fine. All right.
00:00:33:05 –> 00:00:35:03
Finally after. What a week,
00:00:35:06 –> 00:00:39:05
Dude? Two. Hey. I told the girls, if you got what I got, he’d be dead.
00:00:40:16 –> 00:00:42:02
I think it hit you the hardest. It
00:00:42:02 –> 00:00:52:20
Would’ve killed it. Normal man. It did. It hit me bad. Anyway, once a year, off we go. So we’ll be just fine. We’re getting past it. And I had to miss sheep show. You guys all went. How was it?
00:00:53:07 –> 00:00:53:16
Good.
00:00:53:28 –> 00:00:54:23
Good. Yeah. Yeah.
00:00:54:25 –> 00:00:55:18
Sheep show. Good
00:00:55:18 –> 00:00:58:16
To see a lot of people. Yeah. Yeah. Good to see a lot of people and talk and
00:00:58:22 –> 00:01:00:27
Yeah. Had a big old 20 foot booth.
00:01:01:03 –> 00:01:01:26
Yeah. It was nice.
00:01:01:26 –> 00:01:08:23
People coming up, buying optics, talking, hunting, all that kind of stuff. Kind of fun to watch a sheep tag go for 1.3 mil. Yeah.
00:01:08:25 –> 00:01:10:10
It’s always cool. Yeah, it’s crazy.
00:01:10:25 –> 00:01:13:03
Spend some of that money. Yeah. In the hunting industry.
00:01:13:11 –> 00:01:16:14
I just had to, you know, I mean, I want to kill a sheep bad, so
00:01:16:16 –> 00:01:17:08
I figure Oh, really
00:01:17:08 –> 00:01:18:21
Bad. I might as well sna that one.
00:01:19:03 –> 00:01:34:00
That was the best deal. Oh, Josh, your luck. You’re gonna draw a sheep tag this year. No. Yeah. Josh liked the luckiest sucker ever. No. Anyway. All right, Devin, you doing good? I’m good. Yeah. We also went to shot show. How about that?
00:01:34:26 –> 00:01:36:17
We’ve been getting our steps in. Yeah,
00:01:36:19 –> 00:01:37:05
We got some
00:01:37:05 –> 00:01:39:27
Steps in, maybe by Salt Lake. We’ll be in show shape, but
00:01:40:13 –> 00:01:45:29
I’m not too confident. Confident. That’s what I thought was funny is Devon’s like, geez, man, I’m not in show shape. What does that mean?
00:01:47:00 –> 00:01:50:26
It means your back doesn’t hurt when you stand for, yeah, there’s some long days on just
00:01:50:29 –> 00:02:04:23
Standing. Yeah. Your feet wear some long feet hurt. There were some days your feet hurt, but you always learn stuff at shot show there’s some good people there. And then o obviously all kinds of companies, crazy companies, kinda like the basement gets a little stuffy down there. I
00:02:04:23 –> 00:02:05:10
Like it down there.
00:02:05:18 –> 00:02:06:21
But there’s some good products.
00:02:07:08 –> 00:02:17:20
And we saw a lot of people, we went a full, we, we almost ran out of time and we were there before it opened. Yeah. It was a good day. Come. I had eight miles on my Apple watch. Did. Yeah. Really? Yep.
00:02:18:16 –> 00:02:20:17
Yeah. A couple miles. We did eight.
00:02:21:01 –> 00:02:23:24
Well, I had to, you know, run out the truck and get
00:02:23:24 –> 00:02:27:12
Some products. Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute. So what my favorite thing? This, this is my favorite,
00:02:27:18 –> 00:02:31:02
Favorite thing. Disappeared at the middle of the day for a while and he’s got four more miles in us.
00:02:31:10 –> 00:03:13:07
Yeah. And it’s kind of interesting ’cause I always feel bad when I get lost in buildings. I get lost in buildings. Okay. Straight up. I can’t go in a square box building and make it out in the same place. And, and so anyway, I’m like, yeah, I kind of suck. You know? How do I make it as a hunter and this and that? And anyway, you kind of hard on yourself and everybody else is silent. Yeah. Yeah. That, that’s a personal problem, John. Yeah, I legit, it’s John’s like, yeah, I gotta go into the truck and I look at Adam and I go, I do not know how I would make it to the truck. Like, I’d have to get out my onyx, track my steps, hopefully there’s some service within the building, figure it out and not leave me as Tray. Sure enough, John calls in phones a friend. What does he phone? Who does he phone? Josh Pollock. What was John talking about?
00:03:14:18 –> 00:03:18:18
We’re just trying to find the green carpet. The magic carpet to get outta the building. Really?
00:03:18:20 –> 00:03:18:29
Yeah.
00:03:19:02 –> 00:03:20:01
If you hit the green carpet,
00:03:20:09 –> 00:03:22:29
Does that lead you to the the outdoor world? Yeah.
00:03:23:04 –> 00:03:24:29
I taught, I taught John that little trick.
00:03:25:05 –> 00:03:25:18
I pray. I
00:03:25:24 –> 00:03:27:21
That true. I didn’t even know that there was a green carpet.
00:03:28:03 –> 00:03:30:10
Well, Devin taught me that there was arrows above our heads.
00:03:30:10 –> 00:03:34:04
Yeah, there was arrows, signs everywhere. Said bridge. And they had a arrow.
00:03:34:26 –> 00:03:36:18
Yeah. I didn’t know. I didn’t know these things. So how
00:03:36:18 –> 00:03:43:05
Did you, I thought, I thought you could make it thought. No big deal. You were so confident. You were like, Jason, you’re an idiot. Well, and this graphic designer’s headed out.
00:03:43:13 –> 00:03:45:10
John said, I won’t get lost In
00:03:45:10 –> 00:03:52:17
The past, I’ve been the one that’s had the map, but Josh kind of downloaded it before. So we’ve been relying on Josh and I thought I’ll just download the map. Okay. And in the past,
00:03:52:17 –> 00:03:55:18
As soon as I need to you in charge, it seems like we went round and round.
00:03:56:01 –> 00:03:58:10
I think we hit like 14 miles. I think we did 14 miles.
00:03:58:19 –> 00:04:04:09
We did 14 miles. And we saw the Glab booth and 14 others over and over and and over.
00:04:05:00 –> 00:04:19:12
Yes, this is true. So I thought I’ll just download the, the map right when I leave the table. No big deal. Well, it was inside the building. I couldn’t download the app. Oh yeah. So I walked around and around and around. And then I called Josh and it’s not like you can go from point, did Josh help?
00:04:19:18 –> 00:04:24:11
A point B? What did he say? Look for the green carpet. Yes. Did you find the green carpet? Yeah. Where’d it lead you?
00:04:24:16 –> 00:04:26:07
It lead me to the bridge, to the outside, but,
00:04:26:09 –> 00:04:27:16
And then once you get to the bridge and
00:04:27:16 –> 00:04:37:01
Then you can’t just go straight. Yeah. You know, they, they have doors closed and things, so you, you have to go around where it’s open and so it adds, you know, a mile.
00:04:39:04 –> 00:04:41:01
And then you were at the truck, eh? It’s far. And then I’m
00:04:41:01 –> 00:04:41:05
At the
00:04:41:05 –> 00:04:47:00
Truck. Yeah, you made it. Made it. Then what? Then I then Were you late? I was running. Were you late for meetings or, oh, did you run?
00:04:47:06 –> 00:04:53:12
Yeah. Geez. But then I, anyway, got to the meeting and anyway, then I had to wait anyway, so
00:04:54:12 –> 00:05:14:17
The last time I ran was in Mexico. It was after a deer. And everybody’s like, I’m like, we have to run to this rise. Like we have to run, you know? And we were kinda like, everybody, you know, grown men, don’t, they look at each other like, we really running? Yeah, we ran. We ran. That was the last time. I don’t think I’m not running. Do you run Wyatt?
00:05:14:21 –> 00:05:22:19
I don’t. I don’t. Wyatt High steps. Yeah. I’ve never seen it. But these two have seen it. And they say it’s press times. Oh. I’ve still high step. When Wyatt gets somewhere, he’s, he
00:05:22:19 –> 00:05:23:05
Moves. It’s
00:05:23:05 –> 00:05:26:24
Like, you know those people that go to the mall before it opens and they high step whack
00:05:26:24 –> 00:05:27:19
Friday? Oh,
00:05:29:12 –> 00:05:30:13
It puts up to shame.
00:05:31:03 –> 00:05:33:07
Geez. I never knew you were a high stepper. Yeah.
00:05:33:07 –> 00:05:34:28
Either. Did I find things out every
00:05:34:28 –> 00:05:38:04
Day? Yeah, every day hit, hit the third gear. And why? It’s going man.
00:05:38:14 –> 00:05:43:11
He’s making it. Yeah. Alright. Okay. What about you Josh? Last time you ran, when was that?
00:05:45:23 –> 00:05:54:05
I don’t know. Not too long ago. I used to run, surprisingly enough, I ran a half marathon a few years ago. Come on. Good. 2016 when I had my elk tag that year.
00:05:54:05 –> 00:05:55:18
That was Did you run the whole way? Yeah.
00:05:55:27 –> 00:05:57:00
Call 13.2
00:05:57:01 –> 00:05:58:18
Or one or whatever it is. What? Yes.
00:05:58:25 –> 00:06:01:23
The Bryce Canyon one from Bryce Canyon. Clear to canyonville
00:06:01:29 –> 00:06:04:23
That elevation as well. I’ll do it again. Was it I’ll
00:06:04:23 –> 00:06:05:22
Do, I’ll do it this summer. This
00:06:05:22 –> 00:06:05:24
Year?
00:06:05:25 –> 00:06:06:04
Yeah.
00:06:06:08 –> 00:06:07:15
Join me two. Yeah. Okay.
00:06:07:24 –> 00:06:08:03
Done.
00:06:08:03 –> 00:06:17:27
I’ll sign Now. You sponsored by Epic. You want have, geez, I think we could get some serious sponsors. Yeah. Maybe peak refuel
00:06:19:02 –> 00:06:20:19
If I could stop, have lunch along the way.
00:06:20:20 –> 00:06:22:06
Yeah, maybe. You know,
00:06:22:07 –> 00:06:23:07
Biscuits and gravy.
00:06:23:13 –> 00:06:26:09
You’re going start it out with peak refuel.
00:06:26:14 –> 00:06:28:22
We could probably taste it twice by the end of it. Yeah,
00:06:29:15 –> 00:06:29:27
I like it.
00:06:30:29 –> 00:06:31:07
Yeah.
00:06:31:08 –> 00:06:32:17
Okay. Cash you in.
00:06:33:03 –> 00:06:34:09
I’m in. Count me. I’ll do it. You
00:06:34:09 –> 00:06:34:18
Josh.
00:06:35:07 –> 00:06:36:00
If someone else is doing
00:06:36:00 –> 00:06:38:25
It, I’ll do it. Nobody will do it. Arch guys
00:06:39:08 –> 00:06:39:27
Disgust me.
00:06:40:05 –> 00:06:40:22
Yeah. Arch
00:06:41:04 –> 00:06:44:10
Gonna say Arch has no friends on the Tough Mudder. No, no,
00:06:44:18 –> 00:06:50:12
I’m going alone this year. He’s going and you guys are like, oh, I’ll do a half marathon just right here right now after I’ve asked you to come with me. Hey,
00:06:50:14 –> 00:06:53:10
You have never asked me once to come do that with you. I would do it.
00:06:53:24 –> 00:06:59:21
But aren’t you got some janky stories in the middle of that? That’s true. Stories that it’s fine. You guys just, people might have to spread
00:06:59:21 –> 00:07:03:00
Their assets, guys, you just go run on concrete with the rest of the world. We’ll, I’ll be doing something fun.
00:07:03:10 –> 00:07:04:29
You might traumatize a guy, what you’ve been through.
00:07:05:24 –> 00:07:41:04
What do you mean? If, hey, people want all their assets, not half of ’em. I can’t get coughing or I’ll freaking anyway. Just getting over being sick, but hey. Alright, so right now we don’t have Bronson in the room, but we’re gonna get him on the phone. He’s down in southern New Mexico. He’s getting ready to do Orex. Of course there’s now a military maneuver that seems to have never happened. Never happens. Happens to happen to him. Otherwise he’d be smashing one a day. But anyway, he’s laying around the motel room. We’ll see what he’s got to say. And I don’t know, I thought maybe he’d lose a spare tire last night.
00:07:41:13 –> 00:07:43:16
I missed all this. This is news to me. What do you
00:07:43:16 –> 00:07:43:21
Mean?
00:07:44:00 –> 00:07:46:09
I haven’t been in the loop on this. What’s going on Here
00:07:46:19 –> 00:07:47:24
He is, he’s hunting Orx.
00:07:48:01 –> 00:07:50:11
Well, no. Yeah, but this whole military thing,
00:07:50:18 –> 00:07:58:11
Well just, you know, it starts today, but he’s, it’s gonna, you know, they’ve got Trump’s in office and we’re doing things. Hmm. Okay. Testing some bombs.
00:07:58:12 –> 00:08:00:01
Yeah, I’m out on that. Okay.
00:08:00:01 –> 00:08:11:03
And he’s good with it. I mean, anytime, you know, if Biden was in office and it was taking a day, your hunt, you’d be like, really? What are we practicing for? But when Trump’s in office something, something’s going down. We’re proud of it.
00:08:11:11 –> 00:08:13:04
We’re three days in, we don’t know what’s gonna happen
00:08:13:12 –> 00:08:29:21
With no idea. Yeah. It’s crazy. By the way, we could go crazy right now. It’s crazy. He’s signing stuff. Pollock. Quick story. Quick story on what you, how what your brother saw. I I oh no. Okay, nevermind.
00:08:30:21 –> 00:08:33:06
Probably shouldn’t. That’s, that’s classified.
00:08:33:22 –> 00:08:34:07
No, I just
00:08:34:10 –> 00:08:35:18
Not classified. I just don’t,
00:08:35:19 –> 00:08:41:22
I let’s just say there’s some government streamlining going on. Yes. Right? Yes. And it’s, it’s that right?
00:08:42:07 –> 00:08:43:01
No, there’s
00:08:43:01 –> 00:08:48:15
Some government streamlining and we’re seeing it at our level here within our state. Yeah. Oh yeah.
00:08:48:26 –> 00:08:50:06
Sorry. I just dunno what
00:08:50:06 –> 00:08:50:22
I should said.
00:08:50:23 –> 00:08:53:10
I should not say within three days. That’s what I like.
00:08:53:13 –> 00:09:07:05
That’s it’s amazing. Just the, just the opinion. You know what I mean? Like before you’re all, you know, tippy toeing around certain subjects to deal with sexual preferences and things. Now it’s like, and you and you feel like you might get in trouble for whatever, saying something dumb. Some
00:09:07:05 –> 00:09:11:28
Significant changes with all the DEI stuff. Yes. And all the trainings you have to take and mandatory stuff.
00:09:12:06 –> 00:09:13:06
And I, no training trainings
00:09:13:09 –> 00:09:15:12
Going away, making their lives lives much better.
00:09:15:12 –> 00:09:27:17
Other thing we’re gonna find out if Bob Bazar was telling the truth. What probably eventually. Yeah, I think he’s full of it. Devon’s like, he idolizes this guy. Let’s see that.
00:09:27:26 –> 00:09:36:29
Devin Idol. Let’s see. Oh, the aliens. Okay. Oh geez. I don’t know. I don’t know if I want to see that kind of stuff. I, I don’t know if I want to see that
00:09:36:29 –> 00:09:39:22
Kind stuff. I think I’m with you. Some, some things you just maybe don’t,
00:09:39:22 –> 00:09:41:27
Don’t need to know some things better. We don’t need to know everything.
00:09:41:27 –> 00:09:46:12
We have nine Adam, Adam might crap stuff this week. He might New Mexico down there. He
00:09:46:12 –> 00:09:47:17
Could, he might that desert
00:09:48:14 –> 00:09:49:05
High sightings.
00:09:49:15 –> 00:09:51:04
There’s some weird stuff goes on around that.
00:09:51:05 –> 00:10:05:12
I saw a real this morning talking about a transformer from China that they seized at one of the ports or something. I don’t know what that is, but they’re, what they’ve heard of this, they said they like stopped a transformer when that had come into the country from China.
00:10:05:23 –> 00:10:08:00
That would do. And normally they’re
00:10:08:00 –> 00:10:08:17
Bugged, like
00:10:08:21 –> 00:10:13:21
Yeah. Some sort of a robot of some kind that does something to watch it. Whatever. I don’t know.
00:10:13:21 –> 00:10:14:19
I’ve seen the movies. You go, maybe
00:10:14:19 –> 00:10:35:05
They’re trying to kill us. I don’t know. But then they said there was like, at that time, 300 of ’em or something. But that the very first day and Trump’s like, signed a, a bill or whatever that said to stop this, to stop these transformers coming into our country. And the first day Biden was in office, he, he signed the paper to do away with that. And now there’s now 400, almost 500 of ’em in our country. That
00:10:35:12 –> 00:10:36:19
Wild mass.
00:10:37:01 –> 00:10:37:22
Deportation.
00:10:37:25 –> 00:10:40:10
Like the drones, mass deportation of transformers,
00:10:40:12 –> 00:10:41:17
Drones and balloons. Well,
00:10:41:17 –> 00:10:45:22
Where do you think we get all our ta our equipment for the towers that drone our cell phone service?
00:10:46:23 –> 00:10:49:01
I don’t know. I literally don’t know. China.
00:10:49:12 –> 00:10:49:23
China.
00:10:50:03 –> 00:10:53:06
So we need China. I wanna be able to call you Devin.
00:10:53:12 –> 00:10:55:03
Yeah. Why we build our own.
00:10:55:08 –> 00:11:06:03
Yeah, exactly. We don’t have bugs in them. I like that. I I get it. I’m with you. I’m with you. Well, and we saw a lot of people from China at the shot show. I mean, there was, you know,
00:11:06:08 –> 00:11:09:24
One lady knew Adam. We need to ask him about that.
00:11:09:27 –> 00:11:17:07
I I know you. And hes like, I know you. He’s like, I think I know you. You look familiar. She
00:11:17:07 –> 00:11:18:07
Was 100% certain.
00:11:18:23 –> 00:11:26:12
Yeah. I think was sales pitch. That was the sales pitch. You need to come in our booth. We need to take a picture, send it to the homeland and tell him we’re doing work. Yeah.
00:11:26:14 –> 00:11:27:22
We’re not just here in Vegas on
00:11:27:29 –> 00:11:55:11
Vacation. Yeah, I know you come here. Okay, let’s, let’s give him a holler and see how he’s doing down there. See if he’s had some biscuits and gravy. What are you guys doing today? Just checking on you. Making sure you made it through the night. Everything’s safe in Southern New Mexico.
00:11:56:12 –> 00:12:00:07
As far as I know. We’ve got tires all have air in them and we’re all good to go.
00:12:01:00 –> 00:12:05:16
You still have the spare? Nobody’s got the cooler from the back. You’re good?
00:12:06:18 –> 00:12:07:10
Yep, we’re good.
00:12:08:10 –> 00:12:11:15
Right on. You sound a little bit under the weather. How you doing? Well,
00:12:11:22 –> 00:12:19:21
I’ve been, you know, fighting crud for a week or so, but yeah. Yeah, I guess I think it’s on the downhill slide.
00:12:19:26 –> 00:12:21:11
You’re getting it. You’ve turned a corner.
00:12:22:06 –> 00:12:23:18
I think so. Yeah. You’ve
00:12:23:18 –> 00:12:33:27
Been there. I think a well I think you, I think you, I think you gave it to me, but I’m getting over it pretty quick. Oh, come on. Oh my. It’s brutal. I don’t know where I got it. Swab
00:12:33:27 –> 00:12:37:15
Testing to find out. I’m glad to submit because
00:12:38:04 –> 00:12:39:09
My shirt off. It’s about
00:12:39:15 –> 00:12:40:09
18 inches from you.
00:12:40:18 –> 00:12:53:21
Oh, it’s brutal. Well, anyway, so, all right. We kind of teed it up. You’re down there getting ready to hunt, but of course we got some Trump maneuvers going on that are gonna delay you for a second. What? Maybe give us a quick update. Yeah,
00:12:54:13 –> 00:13:21:09
Yeah. I’m not sure. Just submission. They just said submit due to submissions. They’re gonna have to postpone the check until this afternoon. So, which I guess you just, you know that going into this deal down here, it’s on a, you know, military installation. Yeah. White Sands Miss arranged. So kinda know that going in. Fortunately there’s, you know, plenty of orex. So the weather looks good the next couple days. It was cold today. It was like in the teens down here today. Oh,
00:13:21:09 –> 00:13:23:29
Come on. Wow. Yeah. Wow.
00:13:24:12 –> 00:13:34:16
Supposed to be nice the next, nicer the next couple days. But yeah, we’re gonna find out here pretty soon. Whether my associations with any of you guys are gonna stop me from getting in this place.
00:13:36:25 –> 00:13:39:18
I would worry about Devon. I probably wouldn’t drop Devon’s name.
00:13:40:05 –> 00:13:53:13
Yeah, I, I don’t know. I’m just, I’m not gonna, I’m not gonna mention any of y’all’s name. I’m just gonna say it’s, you know, me and my daughter just looking for a good, you know, father daughter experience here. Wish for the best. Will you let us in please? We,
00:13:54:06 –> 00:14:04:12
That’s all gonna go. I like it. Well, good. All right. So let’s see. You guys, you’ve talked about it before. You guys drew a dual application. It’s really tough to draw, let alone a pair of you. Yeah.
00:14:05:07 –> 00:14:39:17
Yeah. I mean, I think, I don’t know, I, I haven’t applied for these very much. I think Carter, you and I have applied a couple of times. Yeah. The last couple years. But my daughter Holly wanted, always thought these were kind of cool looking. You know, she sees in the magazine and whatnot and they are different and odd and obviously save you a trip to Africa to go home. And last, last spring she said, Hey, I’m gonna put in four of those. So I said, well let’s just put in together, you know, it’s whatever. And so we did and we applied together and we drew our first choice for this late January hunt on Rhodes Canyon. So we’re excited about it.
00:14:39:21 –> 00:14:41:18
Oh, it’s gonna be great looking,
00:14:41:18 –> 00:14:54:25
Looking good. Yeah. Beat the odds. Not easy to draw. This is the, we, I guess used our once in a lifetime tag on this one. So you got broken horn or off range or stuff like that in the future. But hopefully it goes well the next couple days.
00:14:55:00 –> 00:15:02:11
Oh, it’ll go good. Maybe depending on the caliber of choice. Did they, did they let the six five creed in? Do they, do they let that in or? Well,
00:15:02:24 –> 00:15:26:24
No they didn’t. We got, and, and it’s for different reasons than you might think. It’s not because there’s any nervousness or anything like that. It’s just that they don’t let you film or video out here. And I have a feeling that you guys would make me bring home video evidence and proof if I saw so did one shot kill with that. And I can’t document that here. So yeah, we got a seven PRC and a 300 rum. So
00:15:27:00 –> 00:15:29:10
There you go. That’s what we got with this. I like it.
00:15:29:18 –> 00:15:33:11
Let’s hear your orx call. I heard they’re rutting right now. Like what? Like what
00:15:34:00 –> 00:15:34:19
You have practical.
00:15:35:00 –> 00:15:37:00
Is it a roar or a bugle? What do they do?
00:15:37:16 –> 00:15:38:19
No, I don’t. I
00:15:38:19 –> 00:15:42:13
Don’t know Winnie. Oh, Winnie. I don’t, I don’t know.
00:15:43:14 –> 00:15:43:21
No,
00:15:44:03 –> 00:15:46:09
You’re gonna learn a lot. You’re gonna learn a lot.
00:15:46:20 –> 00:16:06:03
Yeah. We’ll we, we both talked about that in the long drive yesterday. It’s gonna be, we’re both gonna see our first orx together. ’cause whenever we see one, it’s gonna be my first and her first and I guess decided, Hey, is that what we’re gonna shoot? I mean I know what we’re really looking for. Oh, straight black lens that aren’t broke pretty
00:16:06:03 –> 00:16:11:15
Much. We always tease that they’re like horses. But really AI says it’s a type of an antelope.
00:16:12:20 –> 00:16:13:11
Yeah. Does
00:16:13:11 –> 00:16:17:29
It type of an antelope. Yep. And AI’s always right? I mean they’re always right.
00:16:18:27 –> 00:16:27:24
Yeah. I think, didn’t Logan look that up and about the group of them last week or so? Yeah, that was like called a pack or something. I don’t think we can trust.
00:16:28:05 –> 00:16:29:19
I would say AI is rarely right.
00:16:32:04 –> 00:16:34:22
So yeah. All right. Well, but yeah, that’s
00:16:34:22 –> 00:16:45:19
Awesome. Looking forward to it should be fun. I brought a bunch of big empty coolers for this meat that’s supposedly so delicious. You know that everybody wants a piece so don’t bring it all home.
00:16:45:26 –> 00:16:50:00
I’ve heard Devin ask no more than four times. He’s ready.
00:16:50:27 –> 00:16:53:18
He’s said that he’s running low. As if, you
00:16:53:18 –> 00:16:57:18
Know, give him the heart and the liver. Give him the heart and the liver at least. Fuck. Okay. Yeah.
00:16:57:27 –> 00:16:58:12
Miranda
00:16:58:13 –> 00:17:00:17
Ran Miranda eat the liver. Wouldn’t she go?
00:17:00:24 –> 00:17:07:27
I don’t think so. No. Maybe I’ll ask her. I usually leave those laying there organs. The innards
00:17:08:04 –> 00:17:08:17
Organs.
00:17:08:19 –> 00:17:09:15
Yeah. Organs.
00:17:10:11 –> 00:17:22:21
Yeah. Not a huge fan. I’m not an organ person myself. Not when there’s so much other good stuff to choose from. That’s, yeah, but somebody wants it. You better say because you know it’s, that’s about to be too late.
00:17:22:27 –> 00:17:26:05
I tried to get him to buy that cooler down there at shot. He wouldn’t do it. That big orange one.
00:17:26:08 –> 00:17:27:07
It would’ve been perfect. What
00:17:27:07 –> 00:17:29:10
Was that? Yeah, well you could do an ice bath and that.
00:17:30:08 –> 00:17:31:09
What’s going on up there
00:17:31:09 –> 00:17:32:03
Today? It’s
00:17:32:11 –> 00:17:44:07
Exciting. You seen the application world that I’ve missed. It feels like I’ve been, I, in this last seven days I’ve driven, driven to sheep showing back Vegas and back here back. I’m, I’m sick of driving that, all that. Oh wow. It feels like I’m missing
00:17:44:07 –> 00:17:45:11
Something. No,
00:17:45:20 –> 00:17:45:29
I’ll
00:17:45:29 –> 00:17:51:07
Be not. We’ve been co Wyatt’s been coating up. Wyatt, you’ve got some application deadlines coming down the pipe. Yeah,
00:17:51:07 –> 00:17:54:25
We got Wyoming, Arizona coming up. So applications are going in. Yeah,
00:17:54:25 –> 00:18:03:27
Wyoming elk. He’s going crazy on. He’s telling, he’s prepping me, Bronson that come Monday you and I are strapped to the desk doing some of his work.
00:18:05:13 –> 00:18:06:10
Okay, we’ll
00:18:06:10 –> 00:18:06:21
See about that.
00:18:08:10 –> 00:18:09:11
I look at it as our work
00:18:10:20 –> 00:18:23:24
Epic’s work. Yeah. Yeah. Me and Devin got the same thing for Tuesday. I think today too. We were told we’re gonna be something on my calendar today. We’re be strapped to the desk on Tuesday. What is it? What are you doing on Tuesday? Checking. We all work for while. Oh, we all work for I love it.
00:18:24:16 –> 00:18:25:07
Start checks.
00:18:26:03 –> 00:18:31:15
That’s right. And also Wyatt, you’ve got what, February 4th, Arizona. You’re doing, you’re working heavy on that one. Yeah,
00:18:31:17 –> 00:18:34:04
Arizona right now. Got Wyoming next week. So
00:18:34:11 –> 00:19:00:28
Yeah, just awesome. Lots going on. Lot, lot of stuff out there. So Bronson, maybe talk to us a little bit about, you know, the emails you get for this particular hunt and then what’s required and what you’re doing today. And then the maneuver that’s happening, which we’re proud of Trump. We’re glad he is doing it. But it, it is cutting into your hunt for a sec. If Biden was in office and it was cutting into your hunt, we’d be ticked. But now there’s a little proud moment going on. Like, I’m, I’m waiting for Trump today.
00:19:02:00 –> 00:19:12:07
I don’t really know what’s the hold up today, but they just said due to admission, so I don’t whatever that Yeah, I like it. The base, the base isn’t clear whether that’s Yeah. Anything to do with Trump or not, I
00:19:12:07 –> 00:19:13:19
Dunno. Oh, a hundred percent due to Trump.
00:19:14:14 –> 00:20:09:06
As far as, as far as this, you know, once you, once you apply and draw within, it seemed like a month or so after the draw results came out last year, you received kind of a, you know, big email information packet about, about things they do. You do have to submit a big application packet with, you know, your IDs and hunter safety and all that of both the hunters and any accompanying guest. As a guest you can bring up to three, three guests I believe it was. And so at that time that was clear back, like last May or so. You had to identify who you thought or might or could be bringing down. It doesn’t mean they have to come, but if they weren’t approved back then you just don’t throw somebody in. Yeah. And, and drive them down here now it’s like, you know, I think I, I did have my wife on there then because I wasn’t sure then maybe she’d wanna come.
00:20:09:13 –> 00:20:54:04
Yeah. Turns out she was too busy. She just said, you guys go have a good time. And but so she was on there then they, you know, email you back, you pay, I think it was $150 sec security clearance, I don’t know, background check fee or just, or or just, just fees, whatever it was. One $50 a piece. Got that back. And then yeah, you get all kinds of emails all throughout the summer that talks about the, you know, some of the origins of where they came from. You know, when they brought ’em here, I think it was the sixties and seventies, I forget the exact dates now from the Cali High Desert in Africa. Talks about their behavior talks about, about, you know, you know, certain different emails, talk to you about shop placement and talk with you about, you know, have some pictures and diagrams.
00:20:54:07 –> 00:21:47:28
I’m sure they’ll go over some of that today too. Yeah. But they go over differentiation between, you know, bulls and cows. You know, they both, they look very, very similar. Bulls just generally have a lot heavier, heavier horns throughout the horn. They don’t taper quite as fast, a little bit more. I call ’em corrugation a little bit more, you know. Yeah. Corrugation on ’em. But they’re, they’re heavier and long and heavier for further period up the horn. Not quite as long. Cows lot longer tapering and, and, and you know, a little bit different way. They divergent at the top a little bit at times. But anyway, they both have horns. So, you know, I guess when it comes down to, you know, you, you know, hopefully we’re able to be selective, you know, but, but they don’t, it’s, it’s an in oric hunt. It’s not like they, you know, it’s, they have to do this for obviously for population control.
00:21:47:28 –> 00:22:51:21
There’s thousands of them around, around this place. They do multiple hunts on here of, you know, 60 or 70 per hunt. And of course we all know they’ve, over the years, they’ve gotten off White Sands and they have off range shunts and there’s some private ranches in adjacent to it that you can hunt on them too. So yeah, the emails are very informative. They go through a lot of different information, you know, just talk with you about that. Some of ’em have, you know, pictures and stories, you know, they’re very, yeah. Bring up to speed. There’s not a whole lot other than I guess, yeah. You know, when, when it comes time to, to go looking for ’em, I think it’s just gonna be, you know, try to maybe get somewhere where not everybody’s just driving around. You’re gonna try to find your little pocket of ’em somewhere that you’re not, they’re not getting ran around by somebody else. I don’t know how that’s gonna work, but it remains to be seen. But yeah, very good. The White Sands and Gilbert and the guys are very, very good about telling you, you know, what to expect and has a big q and a section on the emails, things like that. So yeah. Very informative. So,
00:22:51:24 –> 00:22:59:01
Well, it’ll be awesome. We’re looking forward to seeing how you do, so today you do a check in, right? Today you go have an orientation course if something starts. We
00:22:59:01 –> 00:23:42:17
Do all that. Yeah, we do all the check-in, the background check. They check your guns and ammo and you know, your, all your IDs and just, you know, everything like that. Go the ins and outs, talk to you about, you know, safety procedures out there. Don’t touch stuff and find stuff. Don’t take, you know, you’re not supposed to take pictures and video that of scenery and surroundings and all that. And you know, they even encourage you to take, you know, fairly tight cropped in photos of you and your orks when you kill ’em. And just, just all the ins and outs and don’t go. And if there’s closed roads and closed places, don’t go there. So we get all the ins and outs there over the maps and all that, I’m sure. And then come back off and have dinner this afternoon, evening and, and be reard up to go in the morning. They’ll let us know what, what time that starts in the morning. So,
00:23:42:17 –> 00:24:53:06
Yeah. Awesome. Okay. All right. Sounds good. Well, we’re gonna keep cranking here at the office. We’re gonna, you know, under, under Wyatt’s direction do a few things. Right? We like to tease Wyatt a little bit, but No, we’re just, it’s a Friday here, but we’re cranking like crazy. So anyway, it’ll, it’ll be interesting. Just keep us posted and we’ll do the same and, and sounds good. We’ll go from there. Good luck to you guys. Alright, thanks a lot guys. Take care. Yeah, talk to you later. Bye. Bye. So anyway, pretty awesome. Pretty fun. Those are kind of fun things to draw. It’s like Josh, you just, you you drew once in lifetime type tag. It’s not necessarily once in a lifetime, but rare to draw once in a while. You, you know, that’s why you apply in some of these states. We got, I like all the systems that’s, we’re, we’re, we’re up against some of these changes in some of these states with, you know, everybody wanting to change and do things. And Colorado’s coming up with some change that’s gonna hit us here, here in a, in a few years. Wyoming’s considering it, things like that. And it’s like, I don’t know, I, I kinda like the way things are because all these states you get to play each state and it’s a little bit different game and contemplate all of those things, don’t you think?
00:24:53:23 –> 00:25:16:16
Yeah, most, most definitely. It’s just kind of cool. Every, every state has their own little intricacies and, and it makes that state kind of, kind of a cool one to, to apply for or, or hope for a tag in. I mean, random tags are are just awesome and we all hope to hit one and a state like New Mexico has no point system, so everything’s random there. So it’s always a exciting email to open up or data check your all results. ’cause you just never know what could happen there.
00:25:17:01 –> 00:26:23:15
Yeah. You just never know. And like Wyatt, we, you know, we’re talking all the time, of course our offices are close together, cashier across the hall. Yeah. But like you’re at different point levels than Wyatt and I are, and some things I’m at a little different point level, which just means I’m old than, than Wyatt or Devon or whatever. And then, and depending on who’s drawing what and what, you know, some of the things that mattered most to us when we were young and broke, you know, we might have a little more points in other states. I think one thing we hear a lot of is, I had a guy yesterday call in and, and he was like, Hey, I’ve got some points in some in, in two of these states and you, you know, we, you talked me through ’em, but now I’m looking at it and like he would have like seven, eight points in some of these other states. And even though you think I, I had a guy call in also talking about Arizona and he’s like, well I just assumed Arizona was one of those states you’d never get. Well, okay, you, you could say that. You could say that Arizona is one of those states that you would never get if you have to have the absolute best early rifle, early muzzle, best season, best unit. Yeah. You’re a 30 year plan plus probably not gonna get it. Yeah,
00:26:23:23 –> 00:26:24:18
Probably not gonna get the point
00:26:25:03 –> 00:26:36:13
Force to draw probably. Right. Probably not gonna get it even after 30 years, whatever. But you could get it year one. Okay. Fast forward. Let’s, let’s, let’s erase that. What about all the late archeries late rifles? Yeah,
00:26:36:13 –> 00:26:48:29
There’s tons of what you call skews just tons, tons of options of all different point levels there. Yeah. Kind of a, I guess you could call it a bailout option if you, you wanna apply for early hunt starting out and then down the road when you get a dozen points or so. There’s just plenty of options.
00:26:48:29 –> 00:27:27:05
Even these odd units. Why you and I were talking some of these odd units like say I hunted five B North, but you know, with my son Sean, he’d drawn, he’d drawn a tag, but I was glassing surrounding units, we’re in and out and going to town and doing other things and also hunting the boundaries, the borders, seeing like the giant bulls right inside our unit. But do they, do they know where the border is? You know what I mean? Do or do they go on the neighboring unit? They go on the neighboring unit. We were glassing up big bulls on the neighboring unit. I I think yeah, while it maybe those units aren’t known to be best in state. There’s bulls on there at chute. Yeah.
00:27:27:17 –> 00:27:28:06
Lots of opportunity.
00:27:28:08 –> 00:28:19:01
Yeah, lots of opportunity. Even six a unit known for the highest elk densities in the state or or near not known for best bulls in the state. But do we not, is there bulls alive on there that every one of us at this table would shoot? Yeah, yeah, there, there are, right? And same with unit eight being tough. I mean I I, it about took a truck from me, you know, that’s the roughest country in the world or part of it anyway and has opportunity there. It’s not necessarily once in lifetime type draw like say a a a 10 early rifle or a nine or you know, 23 north or south, you know. And so anyway, I just think there’s so, so much opportunity out there. I think you guys gotta kind of ignore it. Thinking about the once in a lifetime type draws best unit in state, best season.
00:28:19:15 –> 00:28:44:04
And there are some guys like that. I’m gonna kill giant bulls and I figure I won’t draw, but it’s worth a chance to have in the a name in the hat. And so I’m gonna go with the absolute best unit, absolute best season end of story. I’m good if I’ve never draw again, I’m good. I’ve had a lot of opportunities in my life and it’s will, I’m willing to have that chance and you gotta at least have a name in the hat. But then there’s most guys, most guys, there’s a lot of units that would suffice.
00:28:44:05 –> 00:28:47:15
Yeah. If you’re just looking for a good, good elk hunt, there’s tons of auctions down there.
00:28:47:20 –> 00:29:51:18
Yep. So pretty cool. There’s also some new things in Arizona there was some new tag. Anytime there’s two or more tags that gives non-residents opportunities that happen in antelope and there’s a couple of giant bucks and some new opportunities. So there’s all change creates opportunity and, and we’re, we do our best to stay on top of that and we do this 24 7. It’s all we do in life. So don’t have other jobs not working for knife companies and other things like we are very devoted to strictly western big game consulting applications, drawing tags, lining people on hunts. Devin, you’ve done a lot of bookings lately of working with guys, Kansas, Iowa, maybe maybe integrating the applications and finding outfitters knowing they can draw. So we need to find an outfitter in advance of applying because that dictates the units and things like that. You’re in Wyoming, elk, they have the points to draw and they want a horseback hunt. This is what’s new, this is who’s doing well, this is who isn’t doing well or we can’t even, we don’t hear from anymore. Yeah.
00:29:51:19 –> 00:30:09:22
Things like that. It goes back to you guys a lot of the time they’re going on those kind of hunts that check all the boxes for ’em before they have the points they thought they needed. Yeah. You know, it fits and yeah, you talk about Kansas, Iowa, that’s way down the road. But you can book those early and they’re getting the right dates, the right spots. It’s good, it’s been busy,
00:30:10:18 –> 00:30:59:16
It’s been awesome and, and I think you do a great job of contacting people fast. That’s what I like. I your desk is clear, you know, at least at the end of every day you try to make it that way and you treat people like they’re people, not just a number. And it’s not just you. I mean everybody that works with you on, on these bookings and Adam and I and of course Wyatt and you and all of us Josh, all the consultants are working on this and anyway, just doing it in a timely fashion. I think that’s what what we’re good at. I think that’s what sets us apart. So anyway, I guess we, we wanted to call in and have a really cool story Sportsman’s elk story here in Utah. So it’s kind of fun knowing, you know, talking to a guy about the pressures of drawing some of these special tags. Josh, did you feel any pressure on your one and 800 or one 900 type draw or whatever it was?
00:30:59:19 –> 00:31:21:03
Yeah, yeah. You just, there’s a lot of unknown and you don’t know and you just wanna make the best of it as well. But yet try and enjoy it. Like that was kinda one of my biggest things. I was like, I’m just gonna try and enjoy this hunt for what it is and I know it’s gonna be a good hunt and enjoy it. And I had the luxury of killing a bull just a couple weeks before. Wow. So you know, rarely do you get to hunt a couple elk in a year and so,
00:31:21:03 –> 00:31:22:22
So you get that pressure like’s that’s okay,
00:31:22:28 –> 00:31:28:21
I’m cool now. Yeah. Like I kind of killed a good bull and, and so I’m like, I’m just gonna go out and want to go have fun on this one. So
00:31:28:21 –> 00:31:45:16
Yeah. How and that changes everything when you can change that mentality of, and and it’s a little different. You didn’t spend 40, 40 points, 30 point, 20 points, whatever it is, right? Yeah. Could be forties a stretch, but pay Arizona bison or whatever there comes a pressure with. Yeah. The number of points that you
00:31:45:16 –> 00:32:11:01
Have. Well especially, especially when you wait and you know, like say Utah elk tag guys might only draw it once in their life and it’s a once in lifetime thing. And so it was weird this time I felt very, even we were gone for a month before the hunt and all that kind of stuff. I was not, I don’t know, I didn’t feel worried at all. I wasn’t stressed about it even with that one, like obviously I wanted to kill a big bull and that kind of thing, but I still was just try to be as calm as I could and
00:32:11:10 –> 00:32:18:06
Kinda like sheep puns up north and they say just you get what the mountain gives you. Yeah. But you know, you’re like, well we’ll see what the mountain gives me on this one. If
00:32:18:06 –> 00:32:22:28
We go back to the once in a lifetime thing, you’re, you’re what? Three once in a lifetime Elk tag in Utah. Now
00:32:26:01 –> 00:32:26:12
Call me.
00:32:26:16 –> 00:32:36:29
Who else has killed a four? Oh here at the table? No, nobody else. Yeah. Hashtag spoiled. Good grief. Really.
00:32:39:00 –> 00:32:40:10
Oh, I could, I’ll do your apps. Do you ever
00:32:40:10 –> 00:32:40:21
Feel like,
00:32:40:24 –> 00:32:45:07
Turn ’em over to me. Well turn, turn your points over to me Jason. We’ll get you a tag somewhere.
00:32:45:07 –> 00:32:46:05
Yeah, well I’ll get you a tag.
00:32:46:08 –> 00:32:47:28
We’ll, we’ll have some fun. You’re
00:32:47:28 –> 00:33:57:21
Gonna have a heck of a tag. Enjoy this experience. Yeah, I’m a drought here, so, alright, that threw me off. Alright, so anyway, one thing I guess before we dive into another story, talking about Wyatt and I and, and Devin and Josh and Cash and all of us, John, everybody here at the table, you know we have this, the website draws are amazing and I, and I want go over that real quick because we use it in consulting, we use it in a lot of our, what we’re doing for our clients as well as ourselves. Last night I went through all my kids and I got only halfway through with the number of states, but trying to update everybody’s points and it, and it basically gives me a spreadsheet so I can look at the options and then I can go do minimum point queries of course personally, but we’re doing it all day every day for clientele and whatnot. But like for example, you can go log into our website somehow. Logan’s logged in. I don’t know why we gave him a membership. What is he, what are you gonna use that for? Logan? Do you use it for good things or what do you I I do hunt actually. Oh there you go. Believe it or not, I like it. Even even the geeky guys,
00:34:00:09 –> 00:34:54:25
We need the geeky guys. They make our websites and, and podcasts look good and sound good. So anyway, Logan, Logan does hunt a lot and so it’s, it’s pretty awesome. I just like to tease him. But anyway, we go on here and we go to research tools, draw odds, Colorado minimum point search. I just love this minimum point search. Click on it, you can click on that and then click on a species. Say it’s deer ’cause it’s right deer cool, maybe, maybe the best. And so click on that and then deer select a species for the minimum points that are available and then point range. So we can just get this point range. Let’s say it’s gotta get this little apple keyboard. Who, I dunno what, who, who uses Apple? Half your company. It’s kind of janky. I don’t know if it’s half you guys. You got you and Logan, let’s call it you and Logan and that ain’t half right. Josh has one at the table. I’m a hybrid. Oh
00:34:55:20 –> 00:34:56:10
I’m like a black.
00:34:56:24 –> 00:34:57:09
That’s hybrid
00:34:57:09 –> 00:35:00:24
Engines. I’m a black tail, partly
00:35:01:13 –> 00:35:56:01
Air gun guys were like, hey you need to get into air guns. And I turned to ’em, I’m like, hey that’s like using an electric car. Yeah, exactly. I like gas. That’s cool. I like powder. Alright, so anyway, you can go to 5.5 to seven. Let’s just say, you know, I like, I wanna know about the, the O2 Rs. I wanna know the second, second rifle, second rifle’s, the first real rifle deer season, in most cases, five to seven points. Click on non-resident ’cause hey that’s what we are. And, and then it goes down and gives me the options. I can do a unit five, no, not a huge fan. Six. Yeah, there’s some good bucks there, here and there, there at times. Maybe in a, you know, down trend at the moment. But, but anyway, unit 32nd, unit 42nd, 55, second Gunnison, 63, bit of private, probably not a huge fan there, but hey whatever, 67 second Gunnison, 76 second and 79 second.
00:35:56:02 –> 00:36:42:04
Those are options right there from five to seven. Now really if I have seven points, my real options are zero to seven, you know, but a lot of people naturally when they think about using points, they wanna maximize their points. I want to get as close to seven. In fact, I’d like to get an eight point unit that slipped into the seven. I mean that’s, that’s how tight people cut it. And then they just end up finding themselves continuing to chase, never draw. So a lot of times I like to say, well if I had seven I’d apply for something five to six and just make sure I go, I wanna know, I’m going this year I wanna be able to beat the draw and go and, and so anyway, but if you did zero to seven, now I have all these options. You know, you could get into an 18, ooh, good luck anyway.
00:36:42:08 –> 00:37:59:15
Or, or a unit 20 or a unit 25, oh you know, put on your hiking boots there anyway. And so you can just kind of scroll down and here’s all of these options. 48, 49, you know, maybe some up and comers or or whatever. 54 second, 62nd K, somebody’s gonna have a good one on that one. But anyway, you just kinda look at and you can say, yeah, these are options no matter what. And you know, yeah, group apps, you gotta remember in Colorado with group apps, you’re going in with the lowest point total. So whoever has the lowest, they’re dragging you down. But, well, and that happens. But understanding these systems I think is imperative. And then, and then knowing, you know, going to the website and it’s cool from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM nobody’s here at the office. You still wanna look around, go look around, go look around in all the states, these are updated. I think we just loaded Nevada, I’ve gotta go through and you know, us as a team go through and proof it a little bit and look at and make sure everything jives. Sometimes there’s some programming discrepancies and things from debt, raw data that the state gives you. But I think by and large everything’s loaded. And so anyway, this works on Arizona too, of course. We’re, we’re right in the middle of Arizona, right in the middle of of Wyoming. Go back to draws. You can click on Wyoming,
00:38:00:28 –> 00:38:01:23
You gotta hit the name.
00:38:05:09 –> 00:38:27:19
Should be able to click right there. Minimum point search and let’s say it’s elk and then I’m, let’s just say I had 12 points. So I’m gonna, I’m gonna go in and do like a, a seven to 12 and let’s just, I guess non isnt regular, so you can do both too. Not really wanting to do it. I
00:38:27:19 –> 00:38:31:06
Like to do both. ’cause then you can see what you can, what you’re gonna pay for and what you don’t have to.
00:38:31:09 –> 00:39:41:06
So two grand versus you know, 7, 800, 7 bucks. Yeah. Yeah. So here’s my options. I did both, like, like Devon said, you know, dive into the, for a, a whole list, whole list right here. All the, the one twentys, one 20 twos nineteens 23, 25 on down through the big horns and, and all the way up to Cody and all of the type ones, type twos, type nines. And, and then you can click on those individually and actually see, you know, what the trend is or what actually happened. 33% with nine, a hundred percent with 10 and above or nine point something and above and, and then 0% underneath. And then we’ve got the random odds as well. So you can go look at that and, and, and check some of that out and see what, see what you got going. So they do a 75 25 split. And so there are random tags in some cases, some cases when you only have, when you have less than four non-resident tags in a specific non-resident category, then, then there’s not a random tag. And we’ll put no tag in the magazine or something like that. And you’ll be able to see that online as well. Wyatt or Devin, you guys have anything
00:39:41:10 –> 00:39:51:21
To add on the other Yeah, I’ll add the other thing I really like, if you go back to Colorado, if somebody says, you know what, I wanna hunt unit, I don’t care what unit say just pick a unit.
00:39:51:27 –> 00:39:52:24
So like deer, go
00:39:52:24 –> 00:39:56:15
To deer. Yeah, you wanna do deer? I wanna hunt Unit 35.
00:39:56:26 –> 00:40:01:03
Okay. Do you, do you really wanna hunt 35?
00:40:01:12 –> 00:40:01:18
No.
00:40:01:19 –> 00:40:02:13
Yeah, I wouldn’t either.
00:40:02:18 –> 00:40:08:15
But this’ll list every season possible and what points it takes for resident and non-resident.
00:40:08:16 –> 00:40:18:04
And so you can, I like that too. So you can go through there. And so what, what do you like about this? Obviously you’re looking at the O one muzz loader. So this is the muzz loader season, the O2 R oh three R and O four R.
00:40:18:04 –> 00:40:25:19
Yeah, this was probably a bad unit example, but you can see the point spread between archery, muzzle, even some of the point spreads between second and third rifle and some units.
00:40:26:11 –> 00:40:29:29
Yeah, there’re zero to two, right? Zero to two, third to
00:40:29:29 –> 00:40:31:05
Fourth, right there, there, there you go. Third
00:40:31:05 –> 00:40:32:03
To two to 15,
00:40:32:15 –> 00:40:33:16
13 point spread for a
00:40:33:16 –> 00:40:57:16
Week. Those different, so to be the last guy, to be the last guy on the unit, you’re giving up 15 points, but the, the last guy is hunting the rut and there’s nobody on the field and everything’s for sure on the winter range and everyth, hopefully everything’s visible with the snow and things like that, right? Yeah. So give me a gimme a little bit better example if that’s what you’re looking for, you know what I mean? Well you could go like 40 or,
00:40:58:12 –> 00:41:00:17
Or you could go to elk, go to elk 61.
00:41:01:23 –> 00:41:03:16
Okay, so there’s elk
00:41:04:02 –> 00:41:17:04
Scroll 61. And with with that, like I, I like what you said about lowering your point, level lower than what you have. Like if you have, say you have 23 points, don’t type in 22 to 23, it’s not, you really don’t have a breadth of options,
00:41:17:18 –> 00:41:38:12
Right? So there’s 61, you got 61 archery, well you got the early rifle archery, muzzle, you know the, what they call the first rifle, which doesn’t include deer. And then the regular second rifle, which would be identical deer, second, third and fourth. And it goes through that you’re anywhere from, I mean non-resident wise, you’re anywhere from 24 to 30 points.
00:41:38:21 –> 00:41:44:19
How about that? Residents are doing 21 for 21 and 18 for the early stuff and 10 and 11 for the late
00:41:44:23 –> 00:42:40:07
Even a resident. Yeah, for the later stuff. Muzzle or resident 18 points. So then you can go click, click on the resident on a specific hunt and actually look at what that means. I’m a resident muzzle 18. Does that, what does that mean? I’ve got 17, I wanna really look at how close I am. Oh no, it was a 73% with 17, 18 was guaranteed to get in. Yeah, a hundred percent with 18, which is why we put it initially, oh it was 17. Okay, well 17, you actually had 16 last year when these odds were built. So you would look at it and say, yeah, nobody in the 16 point tier, but there’s only four left in the 17 point tier. If every, if nobody else dives in, I’m gonna get it. However, obviously people come in, that 23 point guy came in or he’d had drawn last year, the 21 point guy came in knew, or he would’ve drawn last year, 2019. And people are coming to the realization of I’m not gonna draw two 10 or 2 0 1. And so where, what are my other options?
00:42:40:22 –> 00:42:55:25
Right? The other thing with looking at that table from the prior year is sometimes you’ll have a five pack jump in with five more points needed and that skews everything. So you assume that’s probably not gonna happen again, it’s, it just kinda shows the future. I I, I look at this all the time. I live on this,
00:42:56:07 –> 00:43:32:13
Live on, I live on it, yeah. I literally, I literally live on it and, and with the stroke of whatever keypad and texting, we can, we adjust this all the time. We added dates to Arizona and Wyatt and I were dealing with these dates and all these late, late archeries were showing up within our queries and we’re like, it’d be nice to just to see those dates quick. Like how does that only 11 points for archery? Oh that’s the November archery, you know, and so boom, it was done in a matter of like five minutes, it was done and programmed. So we can make adjustments all the time. We’re constantly making it work for us, which we assume the rest of the world would like to, what were you gonna
00:43:32:13 –> 00:43:51:12
Say? I was just gonna say one thing. You kind of hit on it right there just for a second, but I, I get that question a lot. When a guy calls in, he is looking at the odds. He’s, I currently have a 18 points and he’s looking at, you know, 18 point draws. You’ve, you’ve gotta look the year prior. You, you actually had 17 points when you’re looking at these odds. So that’s, that’s one thing you got gotta go back a year looking at these odds a lot of times.
00:43:51:22 –> 00:44:39:17
Yep, I like it. And then there’s a lot of odd, there’s a lot of states out there that, that don’t have points systems and so you go in and there’s, it’s, you know, it’s more of a simple breakdown of, you know, it’s nice when there’s actual non-resident allocated tags, then you’ve got non-resident odds, non-resident applicants, non-resident tags. Very easy to compute that, you know, sometimes when we’re an up to 10%, like in Montana, you know, our, we’re mixed in with residents until we meet our quota. And so it’s a little bit tougher and you’ll see in Montana our odds are the most accurate out there. You’ve got what should, what could happen and then what actually happen because there’s a little bit of a mix there. In a lot of cases we meet our quota, it’s a lot of cases we don’t meet our quota and, and so what actually happened versus what statistically could happen if we still hadn’t met our quota.
00:44:39:17 –> 00:45:51:24
What are your odds? Same thing with New Mexico where three choices count for or or Nevada five choices count, but New Mexico, no point system. Three choices count. Well you gotta add all those in, but some guys may have drawn their first and weren’t available, weren’t even in the draw for their second third. So this is a worst case scenario. This is a worst case scenario. Assuming nobody drew their first or second, they were actually a valid third, third choice applicant and stuff. So you can go, you know, just hit unit two rifle right off the bat and you can just go, you know, just as an example. But you can do this for any, any state or or any species within the state of New Mexico, anything, anywhere western big game. We’re running those odds and queries and whatnot. So this is just in addition, you have to log in to get this, this would be in the, in the $150 membership, which you get the publication monthly December through June, bimonthly, the remaining part of the year. And so just a very, people that aren’t using this, I would say are getting less than half value out of their membership. This is like, we live on this every day. I log into this one coming to work and I’m not usually leave without even logging out, you know, logged in 24 7. Anything else that you can think of?
00:45:51:27 –> 00:46:00:10
Another one to touch on might be like the Arizona, if you look like the, the elk odds where residents and non-residents are all shown together, maybe, maybe the breaking point there.
00:46:01:00 –> 00:46:03:18
So for example, which one do you want
00:46:03:21 –> 00:46:08:01
Go to 27 archery or, or one archery or any, just any of those
00:46:09:01 –> 00:46:19:00
Elk units. Just some, we’ll go down to this archery. It’s all, it’s kind of an alphabetical somewhat. So like a, a unit one archery, right? We’ll just touch on that. We’ll scroll down
00:46:19:18 –> 00:46:20:19
So it, so
00:46:20:19 –> 00:46:20:29
Right at the top,
00:46:21:03 –> 00:46:31:11
All those bonus tags issued right there. But that’s residents, non-residents combined right there. So it, it’s nice we have it broke down, up there in the top for this is what non-residents needed. This is what the residents needed to take this
00:46:31:11 –> 00:47:27:12
Tag. Yeah, so non-residents, 21 points needed to draw residents, 13 points needed to draw. And you can go here, you can go here and, and look right here. We click down. So we’ve got 1, 5, 6, and then in the 20 point tier there was no tags issued. Clear down to the 17. Well that means, you know, the 20, 19, 18, they were all either non-residents or they, or this was a second choice and they’d drawn their first as a resident. So you can kind of see how that happens. And then boom, here we come back into two residents drew and the 17.4 and the 1525 and the 14 and seven and 13. And you scroll back up to the top resident points needed at least 13. At least 13, not guaranteed with 13 seven outta the 130 drew. And then you have random odds, you have the random odds in the next column and you can see what your odds are and they increase with the point level you’re at because you have more names than that. More names
00:47:27:12 –> 00:47:27:25
Than that. Yep.
00:47:28:06 –> 00:48:01:25
And so non-residents get up to half of our tags, go to the max point holders and then the remaining balance goes to the random and, and they, and they did that because you know, we’re lopsided in points in certain places. Arizona, stripped deer, we are lopsided. We, we go in with the residents 20%. We would gobble up all of our 10% non-resident quota in the max points. And so how does a, how does a guy like cash have a name in the hat for the Arizona strip? So this allows for that. Right? Anything to add on to that Lloyd, or,
00:48:02:00 –> 00:48:15:05
No, that’s just kind of what I wanted to touch on. That can be confusing for guys too. ’cause you see those bonus tags issued and, and there’s two different point levels there. You can kind of see where the residents drew and the non-residents drew. So I just wanted to clarify that and, and show that we had it broken down there on our website for you.
00:48:15:12 –> 00:48:46:06
Yep. That’s awesome. Then also, obviously there’s some mapping things and then some basic information comes over from what’s in the emag. We also have eem mags on here, electronic versions that you get that first you can go through and peruse, kind of check out some of the states and species and whatnot. So anyway, of course getting the paper mag too and pretty awesome. Pretty fun. Alright. Kay, moving on. Let’s move on to something fun. Josh. Sounds like you’ve got a birder that you’ve gotta deal with here shortly. Tell, tell us about that a little bit. I
00:48:46:06 –> 00:48:48:21
Mean, oh, just selling some optics to anybody that wants to
00:48:48:21 –> 00:48:51:09
Buy ’em. Anybody, right? Anybody? Anybody and
00:48:51:09 –> 00:48:51:13
Everybody.
00:48:51:25 –> 00:48:52:22
Not rights.
00:48:53:04 –> 00:48:55:21
I got, I got about 15 more minutes. So then before we
00:48:55:21 –> 00:49:05:29
Be here, the blues reds. Yeah. Who, however you identify, we’ll say an optic. Alright, so let’s talk to Braxton. Tell us a little bit key, key that up a little bit. Josh, you dealt with him a little bit this year.
00:49:06:01 –> 00:49:53:01
Yeah, I talked to him a little bit Braxton. He actually approached us at the Expo last year in the booth and kind of introduced himself and said, I just drew the Sportsman’s elk tag. What should I do? You know? And it’s like, oh geez. So we talked to him a little bit about there and, and he kind of wanted to go and try and do it by himself with just him and his buddies, you know? And so, I don’t know, we had several talks about that of the advantages of going with an outfitter and maybe the advantages of going by yourself or disadvantages and vice versa, one or the other. Just all those kind of things when you draw essentially a once in a lifetime tag, because it is that, that, you know, the, just the mental part a lot of times that come with hunting of drawing a, a big tag. And we talked through that about a lot. And anyway, so it was cool. He killed a giant bull in the end and, and made it well worth it. And
00:49:53:01 –> 00:50:03:23
He’s just an average everyday guy when he called the office. He’s just a young kid trying to start a construction company. I mean, just an average everyday guy Go getter. Yeah. And, and want her to try it. DIY good
00:50:03:23 –> 00:50:19:23
Kid. Yeah. Crazy. It’s awesome. Well, they, we’ve got these kind of tags available in a lot of states where, you know, you get a name in the hat for a governor type tag, extended seasons and hunt any unit and things like that. It’s only a, it’s a dream tag.
00:50:19:24 –> 00:50:21:27
You have a call, we all dream to get kind of deal.
00:50:22:07 –> 00:51:04:17
I mean, geez, you just don’t get those very often. Of course, in this particular publication we have both the deer and the elk. It’s a testament. We got serious hunters that are members of Epic outdoors and we appreciate y’all and, and learn from y’all and, and hope to help make your hunts a success. And so anyway, Josh, you were pretty instrumental in a lot of that and dealt with him quite a bit and of course kind of went through the good and the bad, right? It was a long old season for him. He quit clear in October. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, a lot of times he’d kill early and be a hero right off the bat. And this one ground out a little bit. So anyway, let’s give him a call and get it from, get it from Braxton himself.
00:51:16:22 –> 00:51:17:03
Hello.
00:51:17:21 –> 00:51:18:27
Hey Braxton, how are you?
00:51:20:01 –> 00:51:21:12
I’m doing good, how about yourself?
00:51:21:21 –> 00:51:26:16
Good. Hey, this is Josh and Jason Cash, Devin, Wyatt, John,
00:51:27:01 –> 00:51:29:29
Everybody but Adam, we wanna hear an elk story that’s not Josh’s.
00:51:30:15 –> 00:51:30:24
Yeah,
00:51:31:15 –> 00:51:33:27
Well that’s hard to beat. He, he happens to have a couple
00:51:34:06 –> 00:51:36:25
And he’s a storyteller, so we never know what the truth is. Yeah.
00:51:36:25 –> 00:51:37:23
Never give the full truth.
00:51:40:03 –> 00:51:57:23
So yeah, tell us about, tell us about the tag and the pressure of getting the tag and then making good on the tag and all that went in it just, just one of those calls that we all want, but then, you know, can be a love hate deal, but then obviously ended into absolute giant for you and just all the ups and downs and things that went into it.
00:51:58:25 –> 00:52:18:03
Yeah. Alright. Well obviously when you draw a tag like that, I mean, it’s the only one in the state. The amount of pressure you feel really does kind of take away some of the fun, right? Yeah. You get so focused on like, oh, I gotta kill the biggest bull. Like, and if
00:52:18:03 –> 00:52:21:18
I don’t, people are gonna judge me and think I’m not a good hunter and
00:52:22:14 –> 00:52:22:24
Right.
00:52:22:27 –> 00:52:30:07
Braxton, how did you, how did you find out? Like, did you just check your email somebody, you know, what, how did that process go when you found out?
00:52:31:00 –> 00:53:20:21
Yeah, so I guess I’ll start from the beginning. So obviously that’s something you won’t forget. I was at work one day, I was, I do excavation and I was back filling a basement and I had my little brother helping me that day. So we quit for lunch and we go, we’re at this chicken place getting some lunch. I, I’m like, oh, Sportsman’s results are in, you know, can’t wait to see that. I gave the state some more money this year, opened it up, I, you know, buzzed through the results. I’m like, yeah, unsuccessful again. And then I actually got outta the email and I was like, hold on a second. Like, is my mind playing tricks on me or did I see successful somewhere in there? So I pull it open and sure enough it says successful Sportsman’s bull elk. And again, it’s, it’s, it’s kind of hard to comprehend.
00:53:20:24 –> 00:53:55:15
I’m thinking no way, like, something’s wrong, blah, blah, blah. But sure enough, that was, that was the case. So I started to kinda lose it. My brother doesn’t hunt. He, he didn’t really understand, you know, what had just happened. So I ended up making a couple phone calls and, and then shortly after I called Epic and I was like, Hey guys, I think I talked to Wyatt. I was like, what on earth do I do? Like, where do I start? And Wyatt’s like, well take a couple breaths. Like, you’re gonna be all right. You know?
00:53:56:15 –> 00:54:00:11
And it’s easy to say when you’re at the desk. Yeah. Oh, biggie. Yeah.
00:54:00:13 –> 00:54:00:22
Yeah.
00:54:01:01 –> 00:54:09:17
I’d like to feel this pressure one day though, that he was going through, you know, I was trying to talk him off a ledge there or, you know, talk him through it. But I, I’d love to feel this pressure. Oh,
00:54:10:12 –> 00:54:12:29
Somebody take it from you. I want somebody to talk me off the ledge one day.
00:54:13:26 –> 00:54:30:09
Yeah. Oh, it, yeah. It’s a good legend to be on, that’s for sure. So, I mean that, the rest of that day we ended up calling it, calling it a day early. ’cause I seriously couldn’t focus. Yeah. I was like, dude, we’re, we’re operating heavy machinery. I’m, I’m not here. Like we gotta, we gotta go home.
00:54:31:09 –> 00:54:33:00
So go look for some sheds or something.
00:54:33:03 –> 00:54:33:12
Yeah,
00:54:34:08 –> 00:54:34:17
Yeah.
00:54:34:20 –> 00:54:35:10
Start scouting.
00:54:36:15 –> 00:55:52:27
Yeah. That’s what you wanna do, right? But you draw the tag in November and it’s, it’s kind of painful. ’cause I mean, you can esc out for hours and hours, but I mean, you can map out a unit so much until you have, you know, 50 hills you wanna go check out. Yeah. So, so like I said though, I talked to Epic a handful of times before the expo and then, and then I went up to the expo with really high hopes that I would get some good info. I, I talked to all the outfitters in the state, kind of just picking their brains a little bit. I’d always been a DIY guy. I’m a first generation hunter in my family. My dad doesn’t hunt grandpa’s, it’s all, I’ve kind of just figured it out by myself and, and I really enjoy doing that. So that was the goal. But I thought for sure I’d need an outfitter. But at the expo, I, I ran into Josh and he took a lot of time to kind of explain to me what, what this was. And I guess I should say this too. I’d always been a mul deer hunter. I, I’ve got points for Utah, for mul deer. I’ve, I have never cared about elk before. So the elk was a total,
00:55:53:12 –> 00:55:59:15
This is totally understandable experience to me. This is understandable to us. I want, yeah,
00:55:59:23 –> 00:56:02:05
I mean, I mean there’s something about big meales, you
00:56:02:05 –> 00:56:05:15
Know? Yeah. You eat elk, can you mount the mul deer? Yeah.
00:56:06:04 –> 00:56:06:21
There you go.
00:56:06:21 –> 00:56:07:04
That’s true.
00:56:07:22 –> 00:56:39:24
So, so anyway, we’re talking to Josh and he’s like, you know, like I’m 25. He is like, dude, you can, the way that you’re, you’re young, you’ve got, you know, you’ve got time. You’ve, you’ve got enough resources to where you, you should be able to go get this done on your own. Yeah. And that was the first time I’d actually kind of had some hope. I was like, oh, awesome. Like, okay, great. And he was super gracious. He, he helped me with, with my ESC scouting, he helped me kind of get a good idea on where to get started. ’cause that’s another thing, right? I mean, you draw this tag and you have the entire state.
00:56:40:06 –> 00:56:44:21
Josh never has helped me like this. He has never helped me like this. Geez.
00:56:45:23 –> 00:56:47:21
It’s amazing what a good tag will do to something.
00:56:48:01 –> 00:56:48:10
Yeah.
00:56:48:10 –> 00:56:48:25
It’s amazing.
00:56:49:19 –> 00:56:50:25
I help everybody the same.
00:56:51:23 –> 00:56:51:27
I
00:56:51:27 –> 00:56:59:09
Equal opportunity was this before, or this would’ve been before he turned into competition, right? Yeah, this is a good point. That’s true. This
00:56:59:09 –> 00:56:59:28
Is a good point.
00:57:00:15 –> 00:57:02:17
Yeah. We, we still talked, didn’t
00:57:02:17 –> 00:57:07:28
We? Turns out Josh has a tag on one of the best units in the state too. Didn’t know it yet, right? No, the draws hadn’t come out.
00:57:08:13 –> 00:57:09:23
Yeah. It still didn’t matter. Oh,
00:57:09:23 –> 00:57:20:23
I know. That’s, that’s the other thing, right? I’m like, okay, great. You know, turns out he himself pulls a tag and now I’ve got some more competition. I’m like, yeah, great. You know, there goes that
00:57:20:28 –> 00:57:24:21
Resource, which may or may not have been why Josh wanted you really close to the chest right there.
00:57:26:16 –> 00:57:30:00
And I just fell off the, I fell off the radar and quit talking to you after that. Right?
00:57:31:01 –> 00:57:37:17
Oh, forget it. Oh, you were great. You were great. So, so we talk and then, then I
00:57:37:17 –> 00:57:41:06
Was, what happened with then at that point, I was using him for info because Yeah,
00:57:41:15 –> 00:57:42:15
Because you were hunting
00:57:42:15 –> 00:57:45:19
Moose. Yeah, I was, he’s in Alaska, so he was scout
00:57:45:28 –> 00:57:53:23
For me. Now will you go check over here? What’d you find? But, and I’ll tell you places to go, but you have to be transparent. Tell me everything. Yeah,
00:57:54:07 –> 00:57:56:15
I like it. And he’s like, sign this waiver before I give you any
00:57:56:15 –> 00:58:06:17
Info. Okay. Yeah. Yep. Hey, what waivers have been signed before? Right? Why? There have been people that have signed some documents. All right, keep going.
00:58:08:15 –> 00:58:53:29
So, so, you know, we narrow it down to handful. I narrowed it down to two units in the state that I really wanted to hit hard. So I, I, I started to dabble in actual scouting in late March. Just kind of, you know, driving roads, getting to know stuff. And then in June is when I really started to hit it hard. I pretty much from the end of June until the hunt started in Midgut, I I was out every weekend and anytime I could during the week, it, I think I was close to 45 or 50 days of scouting before my hunt had even started. And it was great. I saw,
00:58:56:09 –> 00:59:46:12
I dare I say hundreds of bowls. Like I saw tons and tons of elk. I remember the first, the first day I went scouting, I glassed up 19 bowls of one morning. And little did I know at the time, one of ’em ended up being one of the biggest bulls I would see all year. But having, you know, very like no elk experience, at least no big elk experience. I found it extremely difficult to judge, you know, giant bulls, right? Yeah. Because you’re, I mean, I’ve been on numerous elk hunts, you know, I’ve been a part of that stuff. But, but there is a huge difference when you get above that, that 360 to to 400 class. Yeah. I mean you’re, you’re looking for very slight differences in time length or, or mass or, you know,
00:59:46:24 –> 00:59:50:06
One to two inches on each measurement’s a big deal. Yeah. They add up fast.
00:59:51:05 –> 01:00:37:23
Yeah. Yeah. They, they do. And it makes it extremely hard to be like, okay, you know, we’re looking at a 3 85 or this is a three 70. Like yeah, it’s tough. So I found a lot of bulls. I had a number of bulls that I wanted to, you know, pursue, but at the same time, I didn’t really know what exactly they were. And you’re glassing from, you know, at times miles away you’re getting the best video and pictures you can, and I had a handful of resources that I’d send them to and try to get estimates for how big the bulls were. But ultimately it was kind of like, I didn’t know what I was doing. Yeah. But I knew I was finding lots of elk, you know, definitely a lot of bulls for a guy who’d, especially a guy who’d never killed something would be stoked with. But you want to do the tag justice.
01:00:38:19 –> 01:00:38:28
Yeah.
01:00:39:21 –> 01:01:06:28
So we hunted, we hunted on the archery hunt, which my archery dates were like August 17th through the end of August or something. I don’t remember. But that was mostly just more scouting. And then September 1st came and I made a plan to be down there from September 1st until about the 18th. So I had a handful of buddies down there with me and we hit it pretty dang hard for those 18 days.
01:01:10:01 –> 01:01:10:07
So
01:01:10:07 –> 01:01:12:18
This is kind of funny how things happened. Oh,
01:01:13:01 –> 01:01:20:17
I was just gonna say, this is a pretty crucial time. ’cause you’re the only man on the, the mountain with a rifle during the September one to what, September 17th timeframe. So
01:01:20:17 –> 01:01:22:13
You’re getting ready to shoot over archers. Yeah,
01:01:23:27 –> 01:01:24:16
That’s exactly
01:01:24:16 –> 01:01:24:24
Right.
01:01:25:01 –> 01:01:25:10
I mean,
01:01:25:25 –> 01:01:27:29
You got, you got the long range rifle ready to
01:01:27:29 –> 01:01:30:25
Go step aside. Yeah, no, it’s good.
01:01:32:01 –> 01:01:42:22
So that’s why I, I really wanted to hit it hard. I mean the, the goal was to be, you know, have a bull down within the first 17 days of September and Yeah. Not really have to deal with any other hunting pressure.
01:01:42:22 –> 01:01:43:06
Yeah, yeah.
01:01:45:03 –> 01:02:13:19
So we end, I didn’t even realize this until well after the hunt. We ended up finding my target bowl and not realizing it was him. He was hanging out in some real thick burn. And like I said, it wasn’t until months after the hunt reviewing footage that I was like, holy cow. That was the bowl over after. Yeah. We saw him. But it’s tough. I mean, they’re still bachelor up a lot that time of year. I didn’t,
01:02:13:21 –> 01:02:16:25
So I see a ton of Did your target bo get killed or is he still walking?
01:02:18:02 –> 01:03:04:26
As far as I know, he’s still walking. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. He’s still alive. So I, I don’t know exactly what he went, but I mean, kind of beating him up, he’s, he’s nineties for sure. Okay. He was, he was a, he was a great bull. So we missed that opportunity. And then there was another bull that we ran into that I still think about to this day. We had him did the rides at like 700 yards with no wind. I mean, but it was kind of one of those downhill, drastic downhill angles where you’re kind of looking at him from on top, kind of takes away from the mass. It makes times look a little shorter. It was really hard to judge him. So we ended up passing on him. But I mean, he may have been one that I probably should have, should have taken hindsight, but, you know, yeah.
01:03:04:29 –> 01:03:56:19
That’s all part of the experience. So, so by the end of this 18 days or whatever, I’m, you know, spent a crazy amount of time on this tag and I’m just burned out. I’m feeling don’t have very much hope. And, and I realized that I kind of needed some help. Right. So I, I’d kind of been talking to Corbin Martin of, of Martin hunting and you know, I had mentioned to him in the past like, Hey, I may need your help later, you know, what would it be like? And, and the guy was awesome. We, we actually went scouting a handful of times together just kind of as buddies and, you know, he was sending me some areas to check out and he was helping me as much as he can. Right. But he’s gotta run his business. So he’s, he’s obviously not wanting to, you know, give away valuable bulls.
01:03:56:26 –> 01:05:03:01
Yeah. But he was helping as much as he could. So finally I called him and, you know, we ended up striking a deal and I signed with the Martin hunting crew, which was awesome. Like Corvin and Denton and all those guys are, you know, they’re right around my same age, low young thirties, twenties. So it was, it was very similar to hunting with a lot of my buddies, but I thought that I was like a pretty good hunter. And then I start hunting with these guys and was humbled to say the least. So we, we go out a handful of times and found a couple great bulls. Got on one that I thought for sure we were gonna kill. He went into some thick PJs and when we finally got close eyes on him, we realized that he had a broken second. So we ended up passing on him. And then fast forward to mid-October, it’s actually during the mid-season rifle hunt. Yeah. So, you know, there are people out there for sure. A lot of bulls by now had already been killed, killed,
01:05:03:01 –> 01:05:07:03
Broken a lot, pressure’s on, you know, pressures. Yeah, yeah,
01:05:07:21 –> 01:06:02:17
Yeah. So I’m starting to get worried, like, okay, a lot of bull especially a lot of bulls that I would’ve loved to put a tag on had already been killed, which I hadn’t really seen that many bulls get killed on the archery hunt prior to this year. So it had me pretty worried, but we had faith. There was an area that we had had our minds on for quite some time that we wanted to check out. So I head down and the plan was to go backpack into this area and hunt for like three to five days. And there was a specific bull that we were hunting and we were hoping to turn him up. And I knew if I saw him, that it would be kind of a no-brainer. So we go scout in the morning and didn’t really have a productive morning. I could get into that, but it’s, it’s just to adds more length to another already long story, but not really a productive morning.
01:06:02:27 –> 01:06:47:04
And we’re kind of regrouping. I’m down there with one of my best buddies, chase, who had taken an immense amount of time just helping me out. And he knew a lot more about Elk than I did. So it was great having him down there with me too. But, but we’re down there and, and Corbin’s like, okay, well, you know, it’s about nine in the morning. He’s like, well, let’s go check out this one hill before, before the morning kind of wraps up and then we can back back in for the day and, you know, go spend the next handful of days deep back in there. So I meet up with him, we hop in the buggy and we’re going up the road to look for this bull. And as we’re going up there, Corbin looks through the pasture side right in front of me and just goes, crap, dude.
01:06:47:04 –> 01:07:38:13
There he is. And I’m looking like, kind of up in the top to see where he is. I’m like, Hey, there’s no elk right there. And he’s like, no, you idiot. Look in the bottom. And sure enough, this, this bull is standing there at 150 yards just looking at us. Wow. And I’m like, what on earth? You know, you never expect to see that kind of bull, especially during the hunt right off the dang road. So, you know, he, we strategically, you know, kept driving and then we crept back down the road and started looking at him. And it was kinda weird looking at a bull that big at 150 yards. I mean, even with your 10 power binos, it, it’s almost like you’re too close. And he was, he was probably at a 35 degree angle down below us. So again, we’ve kind of got a crappy vantage point.
01:07:39:13 –> 01:08:24:12
And he, he ultimately didn’t look as big as we thought he was. Yeah. Or as big, as big as we, we hoped he was. So it was really weird. For the next four and a half hours we ended up sitting on that road. The furthest he ever got out was 244 yards. And I was just having a crazy internal debate like, is my hunt actually gonna be over? You know, is this, it definitely wasn’t how I pictured killing sportsman’s bull. It, it wasn’t, it wasn’t how I would’ve ever thought it was gonna be gonna be. And I was kind of disappointed. I like, you know, kind of a nasty, like, we’re gonna have a hunt, you know, not a smash and grab on the side of a road.
01:08:24:27 –> 01:08:32:28
But October, mid-October doesn’t mean smash and grab. I’m just thinking you’re a month and a half, two months into this. Yeah. Mid, mid August to mid-October.
01:08:34:02 –> 01:08:34:23
Yeah. Yeah.
01:08:35:15 –> 01:08:41:09
But you’ve, you’ve got patience. You’ve got patience and you’re watching a whatever. Let’s call him three nine. What is, what did he end up going?
01:08:43:15 –> 01:08:48:29
Well, I’ll say this. He was missing, missing a handful of inches. Yeah. But we got him at 3 97 and a half.
01:08:49:08 –> 01:09:11:10
Yeah. And you’re praying about this, this decision mid-October. Yeah, well, there’s four all around. I mean, you’re going into a fast spike for four and a half hours. I mean, we’re starting to four and pull water, pull food. We’re really getting into this. And I’m like, yeah, geez, you’ve got patience. It was, you and I would not be good hunting partners.
01:09:12:24 –> 01:09:38:03
It just goes back to the pressure. Right? Yeah. Like we had ran numbers on him, I don’t even know how many times. And nobody was able to get him past like 3 85, like 3 85 we thought was being kind of generous. Yeah. And we had some trail camera pictures of him and I mean, he was a sweet bull, right. He’s got his, his five and his six are, are split. Like he’s got great character. He is
01:09:38:06 –> 01:09:38:27
Well over 20
01:09:38:27 –> 01:09:39:19
Awesome looking bull.
01:09:40:02 –> 01:09:40:11
Yeah,
01:09:40:26 –> 01:09:55:01
Yeah. Yeah. Great time length. I mean a sweet bowl. So I got to the point where I was like, you know what, like I’ve got all my buddies here, I’ve hunted my butt off. My poor wife is just like sobbing every time I leave this, I
01:09:55:01 –> 01:09:57:15
Need to, she’s just gotta toughen up a little bit. That’s all.
01:09:59:15 –> 01:09:59:22
I mean,
01:10:00:10 –> 01:10:00:17
Two
01:10:00:17 –> 01:10:36:06
Months my house after that lady, she, she’s bent some, she’d never experienced, you know, this kind of hunting before. So it was, it was kind of a zero to 100. Yeah. But, but you know, ultimately we decided to take him and, and I, you know, 244 yards. It’s like, I put a bunch of money into building a gun this year and expecting long range. I’m like, I don’t even need to dial for this. So ended up killing him, you know, just one shot dropped him and ended up getting up there. And the second all of us got up to him, it was like, oh, this sucker’s big. He he’s big, he’s bigger than we thought.
01:10:36:08 –> 01:10:37:12
Yeah. He’s big. Yeah.
01:10:38:07 –> 01:11:08:15
So, so yeah. I mean that was, that was great. Like I said, he ended up at 3 97 and a half, I was able to have all my buddies there and my father-in-law was able to come down and be a part of it. And it was awesome. It was, it was truly awesome. And my hat’s off to the Martin guys. They just, those guys know what they’re doing. They really did make me feel like I didn’t know anything. And I’d, I’d been hunting the, you know, same areas that they’d been hunting all year. And it was like, geez, this
01:11:08:18 –> 01:11:09:12
Just the confidence,
01:11:09:12 –> 01:11:09:27
My competition.
01:11:10:01 –> 01:11:24:23
Yeah. The confidence of hunting it year in year out and many clients and you just, they’re, it’s a local knowledge kind of thing, you know, not that you don’t have it, just they’ve got more of it. Oh, I mean, yeah. Of that local knowledge, you know,
01:11:25:21 –> 01:11:35:06
It yeah. That local knowledge and having grown up near there, I mean, it, it really is a huge difference. You know? It, it does make a big difference. So
01:11:35:16 –> 01:11:46:06
One thing about these photos is that bo the bull’s body, the, the antlers, I mean, it just dwarfed the body. The body looks small. That’s how big this bull is. You know what I mean? Yeah. Just crazy.
01:11:46:20 –> 01:12:27:12
It’s, it’s incredible. And I mean, he wasn’t, he wasn’t the biggest bodied bull for sure. But I mean, he definitely wasn’t small. Yeah. You know? Yeah. But, but the antlers are cra I mean, he’s got pine length, he’s got mass, he’s got, I mean, just a sweet, I mean he look, he’s a straight six, right. He’s got two little, little kickers, but I mean, straight six just a, the bull I could have dreamed of for sure. Yeah. I mean I, when, when I, when I finally got up to him and put hands on him, I mean, heck, that’s the biggest bull before that I’d ever put hands on was probably only in the, you know, three forties. Yeah. And I thought that a three forties bull was huge. So
01:12:28:04 –> 01:12:29:15
Pretty much, pretty much a 60
01:12:29:15 –> 01:12:30:07
Inches was crazy.
01:12:30:12 –> 01:12:32:27
Yeah. Pretty much a 400 straight six point is
01:12:33:08 –> 01:12:50:04
That’s a lot. But then cool character splits at the top of the four that’s splits at the top of the five big bull. Tell us, I mean, like, a lot went into your gun. I’m not sure. It doesn’t look that legal. I mean tell us, tell tell us a little, not judging you, but tell us a little bit about it.
01:12:51:07 –> 01:12:54:29
Well, well, I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna get myself in trouble here, but
01:12:55:14 –> 01:13:02:19
It’s got a, is it a 50 cow? It’s, it’s got a bolt on it. Is it a 50 cow? No, it’s fine. I’m just teasing you. I’m just teasing. No,
01:13:03:06 –> 01:13:37:27
No. The, the gun is, I mean, my father-in-law’s a huge long range shooter and, and he, he’s the one that’s kinda opened the door for that. So when I drew the tag, he’s like, Hey, you know, it might be time to put something together. So, I mean, it’s a, it’s a 28 nozzle. I, it’s got a 22 inch barrel on it shooting suppressed, and then I’m shooting those burger one 90 fives and I don’t, I ought to get you guys the video, but put it on his high shoulder and it just folded him instantly. So it’s, it worked out pretty good. I burger
01:13:37:27 –> 01:13:41:25
Would, I went on a sheet the burger would pay you for that footage. That’s rare. That’s a rare footage.
01:13:43:27 –> 01:13:49:21
Yeah. Yeah. Sent us some video of that. We’d love to
01:13:49:21 –> 01:13:51:04
See that for sure. It’d be good. It’d be good.
01:13:52:01 –> 01:14:06:11
Yeah. So yeah, it, it ended up being great. It, it definitely was the hunt of a lifetime. And now I’ve got the, the elk fever. I’m like, how do I, I’m never gonna be able to hunt bulls like that again. I don’t think so. I’m like, maybe I should have started getting points.
01:14:06:19 –> 01:14:08:11
Turn your applications over to Josh.
01:14:09:29 –> 01:14:10:29
We’ll, we’ll figure it out.
01:14:11:10 –> 01:14:14:05
Yeah. Yeah. He, he manages to pull good tags.
01:14:14:18 –> 01:14:24:24
So I wanna know, I wanna know, I wanna know something from you that Josh would never admit to, but like did you turn Josh onto his bull from all that scouting in September?
01:14:26:15 –> 01:14:53:24
You know, I wish that I did. Okay. I, I, I wish I actually felt kind of bad ’cause he was on his moose hunt and, you know, we were, he was sending me messages on the inReach kind of wanting updates and I was so focused on myself. I didn’t realize when his hunt started. And I would’ve loved to, I mean, he obviously ended up killing a amazing bull. But yeah, I would’ve loved to help him more. ’cause I felt like it was all take on my part and I didn’t really, I didn’t really give him anything back.
01:14:53:25 –> 01:15:05:03
So, and if you would’ve helped him, he wouldn’t have underachieved. That’s true. That’s true. A three 80 something or whatever it is. You would’ve been able to kill a bigger bowl a little bigger than the mid three eighties.
01:15:06:05 –> 01:15:11:03
Yeah. I mean that was, that was about Yeah, he killed the,
01:15:11:07 –> 01:15:13:11
He killed he maximized the tag. Yeah,
01:15:13:24 –> 01:15:22:03
Yeah. Oh yeah, for sure. When he, when he punched his tag in that bull. I was, he did. Well, yeah. That’s a no brainer. That’s a stud bull for sure. So.
01:15:22:12 –> 01:15:23:03
Well, so yeah,
01:15:23:14 –> 01:15:24:07
That’s the story.
01:15:24:17 –> 01:15:47:05
Just wanna tell you. Congrats. Yeah, congrats man. Awesome bull. Sure. Like to tease here a little bit, but it’s all light and just really appreciate you coming on and and what a, what an absolute giant thanks for showcasing it in the Epic magazine here, the February issue. Just absolute crazy awesome, incredible bull that anybody would love to have, so. Sure, sure. Appreciate you. Yeah.
01:15:47:26 –> 01:16:37:10
Yeah. Let me give you guys a plug real quick too. Like, I, I did mention it, you know, but I seriously, especially with Josh, I spent hours and hours talking to this guy and he was, I mean, doing everything he could to help me find success. Yeah. Which it, it really did mean a lot to me. ’cause it’s intimidating and the pressure you feel is crazy. So even just having somebody who, who is, you know, who I really looked up to as a good elk hunter, having him be able to tell me like, Hey, you know, try this, you know, look during these times or, or, you know, check these kind of areas. Just, just those nice little tips that you get from lots of experience that helped me a ton. Yeah. So it was, it was really great having, having the resource of Epic and you guys to, to help me out. It was, it was great.
01:16:37:21 –> 01:17:15:21
Well, we appreciate it. And I think too, a lot of it is just a personalized customer service guys call in and we want, we want you guys to succeed. Like that’s, that’s part of it for us too. Why it’s supplying guys day in and day out and, and yeah, sure. That’s our job. But, but there’s a little icing on the cake when guys actually get the tag in their hand and they’re excited and plans are made and vacation days are made and, and then going on the hunt and you know, Devin may have helped a guy find an outfit or whatever, and then it all comes together with a successful story. It’s just, man, that there’s nothing better than that, you know?
01:17:15:25 –> 01:17:21:09
Yeah. There’s care behind it, which is what’s awesome. You guys care. Yeah. It means a lot. So
01:17:21:27 –> 01:17:22:28
All, so
01:17:22:28 –> 01:17:23:16
Thanks again, fellas.
01:17:23:19 –> 01:17:30:12
All right, well have a great Friday. Have a great weekend and yeah, good luck in 2025.
01:17:31:17 –> 01:17:36:21
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Unfortunately no sportsman’s tag this year, but maybe we’ll try next year. Yeah.
01:17:36:23 –> 01:17:40:16
Maybe it’s a, maybe it’s a deer. Maybe we’ll get back to the roots and go, go to mule deer.
01:17:41:09 –> 01:17:42:17
Ah, that’d be a thing of beauty.
01:17:43:02 –> 01:17:44:06
Alright, sounds good.
01:17:44:27 –> 01:17:45:24
Okay, take care
01:17:45:28 –> 01:17:58:06
Guys. Alright, thank you. You betcha. Bye. All right. There you have it. Pretty cool story. Yeah, really cool story. Fun guy’s. Got more patience. I just was man, four
01:17:58:06 –> 01:18:08:19
Hours. That’s what I was just gonna say is the, he stuck out to me. He’s 150 yards off road and he stays right there for four hours. Yeah. So crazy. You get a buzz right past him. He just holds tight during
01:18:08:19 –> 01:18:16:13
Another hunt. I mean, there’s spike hunters out there, there’s all the midseason rifle hunters going out there. I mean, he’s already went through the first original rifle season, so
01:18:16:19 –> 01:18:19:16
It’s not like he’s in a meadow. It looks pretty thick. He’s just standing there,
01:18:20:05 –> 01:18:48:12
Standing there chilling out. Yep. That’s what they do a lot of times late season. But that’s not even that late Uhuh, you know what I mean? No. And just, I don’t know. It was kind of meant to be obviously that that’s a unique story. And then, then just how he wanted to maximize the tag. And just goes back to that. I mean, you put me mid-October after having two months and I’m sitting there on a 400 for all intents and purposes. I mean, I’m smashing it. Well, but it is hard to judge. Like
01:18:48:12 –> 01:18:53:12
He said, he knupple is still three low nineties without the two, two extras. I mean it Yeah. For a straight six. Yeah.
01:18:54:09 –> 01:18:57:13
It can get prettier than that. Yeah. Fatty at the top. I mean,
01:18:57:13 –> 01:18:58:03
Nothing broke.
01:18:58:14 –> 01:19:01:00
Yeah. Anyway, what’s
01:19:01:00 –> 01:19:18:03
Also impressive to me is he is a first generation hunter. It’s, it’s not easy Yeah. To just pick up your, it’s not a family tradition. No. And you’ve gotta learn everything on your own. Yeah. Like it, it’s just, it’s cool to see that’s possible. You know, really cool. You just learn, learn and have people help you. Yeah.
01:19:18:20 –> 01:19:31:13
Okay. We’re gonna be at the expo, the hunt expo coming up here shortly. February 13 to 16. Salt Lake City. We got a giant booth right there at the pinch point. You can’t miss us. Look at the ceiling. We probably usually have banners. John, did you adjust that or we still have banners? Nope,
01:19:31:13 –> 01:19:34:04
We got banners. Do we? We got banners, we got flags, we got
01:19:34:20 –> 01:19:42:13
We lights, we have fog, foghorns and freaking. Yeah. Shouldn’t, whatever. Shouldn’t,
01:19:42:13 –> 01:19:43:07
Shouldn’t, shouldn’t miss us.
01:19:43:13 –> 01:20:27:17
No. Alright, we have flame throwers. Oh, that’s a good idea, dude. We gotta a cut out of Donald Trump. Of course. He’s that legal on, he’s on our on hold message system. We gotta have him show up, right? Yeah. Anyway, pretty exciting. We wanna see you there. Come by the booth. We’re gonna be selling optics like it’s our freaking job as well as talking, hunting, going over strategies, you know, all kinds of stuff. So we have a lot of clients that show up at the expo and we get to catch up with them. And so anyway, also want to throw a little shout out to Vortex Optics. Great optics at a great price. We sell Vortex, of course we sell all the brands. Happy to help you no matter what it is you need. Range finders, binoculars, spot and scopes, rifle scopes. I don’t know what else there is.
01:20:27:17 –> 01:21:19:15
Thermal imaging, if you’re out doing that, of course smashing the predators with thermal, there’s nothing better. We can help you with that and have done that ourselves. And so pretty, pretty fun, pretty awesome. Great, great time to be alive. It’s kind of fun. Some of these technologies are, are fun to be a part of. Of course, you know, some states you gotta, you gotta watch the emerging technology rules and things like that and totally agree with that kind of stuff. But when it comes to predators, ’em, anything goes, huh? Let ’em have it. Yeah. Don’t you agree Wyatt? I agree a hundred percent. But anyway, vortex, back to Vortex. If anything you need Vortex, let us know. Shoot. They should be awesome. We carry about everything. We’re gonna have the best deals ever at the Hunt Expo. I wanna throw a little shout out to outdoor edge knives, some of the best knives in the industry.
01:21:19:29 –> 01:22:18:16
Replaceable blades. We have outdoor edge knives with Epic logo and you know, we’ve done great with those and the replaceable blades and whatnot. Just super sharp. And they make all kinds of, they make filet knives, they make kitchen knives, they make gut hook knives, they make all kinds of old traditional knives. Just a great company. Outdoor edge. They’ll be around for, feels like decades to come, centuries to come. Very, very excellent. Well-managed company that has great products. And they’re always on the cutting edge, no pun intended, of, of great products. So anyway, you can kind of see how to get with them within our em mags, the print mags, we’ve got ads for them and some of the different products that they’ve got. So anyway, a little shout out to Outdoor Edge. Appreciate them and their partnership with us here at Epic Outdoors. Wanna throw a little shout out to ourselves and our online odds?
01:22:18:24 –> 01:23:06:13
If you need anything online odds, try Epic Outdoors. It’s the, I feel like it’s the best in the industry. We’re constantly changing and molding depending on what we want personally and extremely accurate. So very proud of, of that portion of our business. And maybe somewhat overshadowed something we don’t talk a lot about. It’s hard to talk about your own business. We like to just do podcasts and be normal dudes, but man it right here in the middle of application season being January, we’ve got five months of this, six months of this and, and we’re doing it every single day and dealing with it every single day and, and hundreds and thousands of clients and working with them on developing strategies and whatnot. And that’s the best tool we got. And, and it helps a lot. Of course.
01:23:08:15 –> 01:23:51:27
I would say our in the field knowledge within all of our consultants here is the, is the best of anybody in the industry. Every one of us hunt all western states at some point and maybe even multiple times in a short period of time. So anyway, we do have a lot of boots on the ground experience and we don’t really hold back here. We help everybody and want you to be successful and whatnot. Nah, there’s some few things in our backyard or whatever we’re entitled to a few things. We’re following specific animals or whatnot. But having said that, we’re very transparent in helping guys make the most of their points, make the most of their financial investment, time investment. Do you have anything to add to that, Wyatt or Devin?
01:23:52:18 –> 01:24:06:04
I think you nailed it, but if you haven’t been on our website and logged in, you really should. I would, I would agree with that. Look at all, all the, whether you’re looking for piece of optics to see your discounts, things like that, and especially the odds, you definitely check it out
01:24:06:26 –> 01:24:07:24
On the optics. It save
01:24:07:24 –> 01:24:08:09
A lot of time.
01:24:08:15 –> 01:24:50:25
Yeah. It saves you so much time and it’s just clarity. You just can and it gives you something to chew on for a minute. Like, oh, these are my real options. Like, you know, and, and you know, everybody, there’s a lot of people out there with a lot of knowledge. There’s a lot of great hunters within the epic outdoors community. And so some guys may, you may learn a piece of information or something as you’re chewing on what your options are for Colorado. Colorado rakes aren’t even out yet. We’re answering Colorado calls every day. It’s one of those, it’s a preference point state where you can kind of tell the future on what you can get drawn. And so people like to chew on it and as they go to the expo and they rub shoulders with other serious hunters, you might learn something. You might be like, eh, that sounds like the hunt for me.
01:24:51:12 –> 01:25:32:00
And you might have the points needed to, to get it. So anyway, no matter what species it is, no matter how many points you have, there’s something for you. That’s the one thing I think some, some I’ve heard it said in the industry that point systems are the thing of the past. It’s they don’t really work. All of these things. A guy coming out this year has options to have a attack in his pocket. Absolutely. A hundred percent. We’re not talking over the counter drawing in deer tag in Colorado. Zero points promise you there’s options for you. So I just don’t believe, I don’t buy into this. Points aren’t working. Points are freaking working. We’re doing it every year and we’re not. Why we are,
01:25:32:00 –> 01:25:32:27
We’re drawing tags
01:25:33:09 –> 01:25:39:12
Every single year. Cash. How old are you? 27. Do you feel like you have options? Oh, absolutely. Do you feel like the point systems work?
01:25:40:05 –> 01:26:47:24
Absolutely. Now, you might not be able to get a unit 10 early arch, early rifle elk tag in Arizona. And so you could easily just ride it off and say, eh, they don’t work. They pump the brakes, they’re freaking working. There’s options for you and you might kill an absolute giant. And it’s not in unit 10. So, so anyway, just wanted to spell that They are working. There are options. Yeah, there’s a lot of demand. Demand’s never been greater. And also, I mean, trophy quality’s waned a bit deer wise. And, and so we’ve, us included, we’re thinking 24 7 about what, where the next big deer’s gonna come from and, and yeah, it’s challenging, but that’s all part of it. It’s part of the game, right? Utilizing points in weird places. There’s a drought down south, we’re headed up north or should be sometimes guys like me, if there’s a drought, I follow the drought and I kill crap, you know, or I don’t kill anything because there’s nothing but crap. So anyway, whatever, you know, don’t hit it always perfect. Why it seems to choose the right years and the right tags. And I think I’m gonna follow Yya a little more.
01:26:48:14 –> 01:26:49:22
Just got lucky a few times.
01:26:50:09 –> 01:26:53:01
Tried to talk you into following ’em yesterday and you’re not having it,
01:26:53:03 –> 01:26:54:17
So No, I, well
01:26:54:19 –> 01:26:56:27
I, tell me about it. I missed this conversation. No,
01:26:57:20 –> 01:26:59:00
They want me to go to Oregon.
01:26:59:20 –> 01:27:00:13
Oh yeah.
01:27:00:24 –> 01:27:01:18
Would you have it?
01:27:02:14 –> 01:27:03:19
What’d you say? Well,
01:27:03:19 –> 01:27:09:05
Yeah, exactly. Hey, actually there’s some big deer in Oregon. I’ve been thinking about it and I’ve got points and I’m gonna,
01:27:09:25 –> 01:27:10:27
They don’t, that’s a perfect
01:27:10:27 –> 01:27:12:24
Example. They don’t p you’d be surprised of what I have
01:27:12:24 –> 01:27:21:09
If you haven’t points you’ve had for how long, you don’t know what the purpose of those points are. Yeah. But at some point in your life they, they all of a sudden, you know, could have a big purpose. Well,
01:27:21:09 –> 01:28:09:12
I learned, you just never well learned. I learned about some elk stuff and I was like, I could do that. And then I’ve got points from 1953 that might actually become useful. Yes. Right. And I’m actually kind of kicking myself that I, I went stagnant for a decade, you know what I’m saying? And so, but, but hey, they’re waiting for me and I’m, and it’s calling my name. So you just never know. Get points. You never know. Get points, then you have options, points, equal options. And I’m over it. We’re, we’re done. This podcast is over. It’s gone too long. Josh is out dealing with a birder. That’s why he went a little bit quiet on the end of the story. We’re gonna sell optics to a birder, John. Is that what we’re doing? Yeah, yeah. I mean, if she walks outta here without optics. Yeah. She’s no longer welcome here. I mean
01:28:10:08 –> 01:28:16:28
I’m, I’m just telling you some of ’em are dedicated. Oh, Jim Jens came and bought some for his wife. They’re gonna Costa Rica on a birding
01:28:17:00 –> 01:28:30:10
Trip. Yeah, I mean that’s pretty awesome. Well, it’s awesome. But he’s a hardcore hunter. Yeah, I’d like to see what she, I’d like to see a look on her face at some of these mounts. We’ll see what, we’ll see, we’ll see. See what comes to that. Yeah.
01:28:30:10 –> 01:28:30:25
Nevermind.
01:28:31:01 –> 01:28:32:04
Look, go ahead Devon.
01:28:32:12 –> 01:28:37:11
I would just say don’t let her walk through the office with, there might be a bird or two. There’s a bird in Wendy’s office at the front door mounted.
01:28:37:11 –> 01:28:37:18
Oh yeah,
01:28:37:21 –> 01:28:41:28
Mounted. There’s a pheasant. It’s true. Big old rooster.
01:28:42:14 –> 01:28:44:11
Long. It’s not some illegal variety
01:28:45:06 –> 01:28:47:03
Just ’cause she’s a bird or doesn’t mean she doesn’t like
01:28:47:18 –> 01:28:48:27
I agree pheasants. But
01:28:49:17 –> 01:28:51:24
Maybe she’s just scouting for later in her life.
01:28:51:26 –> 01:28:56:11
No, you know, they’re not, they’re not. They’re looking at pretty colors.
01:28:57:06 –> 01:29:03:17
Every once in a while when I can’t see anything, I’m glassing, I’ll zoom in on a bird, you know, I don’t know. Just to look at the colors. Yeah.
01:29:04:23 –> 01:29:41:10
There used to be, and I’m not gonna say names, but there was a guy and he would be like, he’d be glassing and you know, and I had a client and he would be like, man, there’s a sheep, you know, and he’d glass over there and he’d go, ah, I think that’s a rock. You know, being really nice. And he goes, but I really like that rock. And then they would sit there and look at the rock and being really nice to the client. You know, like that’s a rare one. Yeah, it’s such a pretty rock. Look at the color varieties and the contour just being so kind. Anyway, I could use a little of that. We we could be kinder John. Yeah, let’s be kind this week.
01:29:42:01 –> 01:29:43:00
I also Friday
01:29:43:07 –> 01:29:43:23
Week’s over.
01:29:44:13 –> 01:29:50:03
Well that’s good because the new week does it start? I hate how the calendar rolls. Does the new week start on a sat on a Sunday or a Monday
01:29:51:13 –> 01:29:53:10
I think starts on a Monday. But the
01:29:53:13 –> 01:30:00:17
Calendar says Sunday, right? Yeah, Sunday technic technically. Yes. So let’s be kind for today and tomorrow. Friday and Saturday. Yeah. Okay. Rest of the week.
01:30:00:17 –> 01:30:44:28
There’s one other thing I’ll, I’ll say about the birding thing. Like I’ve gone to a birding convention or two and just in the optics world, if the government put the same kind of money they put into birding and they did into hunting, it would be insane there. There’s an app and it’s if, if you have Indian interest in birds, like you should get it. It’s Merlin and it’s funded by the government. You take a picture of a bird, it’ll tell you exactly what it is and like 15 million things about it, you hit, if you hear a bird calling, you hit record. It’ll tell you what by the sound of the, you know the call what bird it is and it’s dang accurate. Dang accurate. Wow. Wow. I mean if the government put it, you know that kind of money into the hunting world, you could take a picture of something and it would score it for you.
01:30:45:10 –> 01:30:45:19
I wonder,
01:30:46:07 –> 01:30:46:18
I’m telling you,
01:30:46:24 –> 01:30:51:19
I wonder if the Trump administration, if they’re gonna cut, if this is gonna be one of them programs they cut
01:30:52:16 –> 01:30:57:25
Possibly, but I mean they can say, well we’re conserving and we’re helping in this. We need some conservation.
01:30:59:18 –> 01:31:13:11
Well, the one downside is if we had that app in the hunting world, then you can no longer claim ignorance when you kill a wolf thinking it’s a Kaye. You know what I mean? Yeah, that’s true. It would be rough. There’s some blessings on that. So now at least you can say
01:31:14:19 –> 01:31:14:25
No.
01:31:15:10 –> 01:31:19:07

01:31:19:22 –> 01:31:23:28
No, I’m just saying like there would be some awesome AI stuff that you know, like
01:31:24:14 –> 01:31:29:11

01:31:40:25 –> 01:31:42:16
You’re overestimating every hunter
01:31:42:20 –> 01:31:46:13
Down. True. Why that elk was really easy. Not everybody’s a member of Epic outdoor de.
01:31:48:06 –> 01:32:37:28
