EP 85: Finding Hunting Opportunities.  Adam Bronson, Jason Carter, and Jeff John talk about the upcoming hunting season. This year we have a full schedule of hunts and are excited about the opportunities we have. These include youth hunts as well as some long awaited draw tags. There are a lot of opportunities out there for those willing to play the game with persistence as well as strategy.

00:00:00:25 –> 00:00:06:03
Sometimes the cost is significantly less to get those kids building and drawing than it is for us.

00:00:06:07 –> 00:00:08:24
That was a random draw. There’s 10 non-resident tags.

00:00:08:28 –> 00:00:13:05
A lot of our hunts for going on are gonna be stuff that we’re seeing and doing for the first time. Anything

00:00:13:05 –> 00:00:14:11
To do with Western Big Games.

00:00:17:22 –> 00:00:18:06
Welcome

00:00:18:06 –> 00:00:21:09
To the Epic Outdoors Podcast, powered by Under Armour.

00:00:21:23 –> 00:00:36:29
Hey everybody. Jason Carter and Adam Bronson. As well as Jeff John. We’re gonna let him talk a little bit today, just a little probably. But anyway, Dale, he’s sitting here, he’s sitting here at the table with us on what? A Wednesday. Wednesday morning here in July. New eyes.

00:00:37:03 –> 00:00:38:00
You got some new eyes.

00:00:38:11 –> 00:00:39:02
I got new eyes. Yep.

00:00:39:06 –> 00:00:40:11
Jeff’s got new eyes. Recent

00:00:40:12 –> 00:00:41:22
Yesterday afternoon. There

00:00:41:24 –> 00:00:42:22
A song, new Eyes,

00:00:42:27 –> 00:00:45:20
20 hours off of lasik. And he’s a believer.

00:00:46:06 –> 00:00:46:20
Oh yeah,

00:00:47:03 –> 00:00:51:21
That’s awesome. I’m sold. I’m sold. No more glasses fogging up and all that on the hunts.

00:00:51:24 –> 00:00:52:21
No more excuses.

00:00:53:00 –> 00:00:53:21
No more. Excuse what?

00:00:54:01 –> 00:00:55:27
There’s another way to put it. There you

00:00:56:05 –> 00:00:56:08
Go.

00:00:57:00 –> 00:00:57:09
Okay.

00:00:57:09 –> 00:01:27:17
Well, anyway, yeah, we’re coming at you from here in Cedar City. Before we get started, we do want to thank Under Armour for sponsoring this podcast and other things that we’re doing here at Epic. Of course, they run an ad in the magazine and we also work with them on our YouTube and things like that. So anyway, thanks to Under Armour. Got a lot of things going. Before we get started, Jeff, I had a guy call and he says, Hey, I’ve been missing the promo codes. And I’m like, oh yeah, we haven’t even been doing ’em, actually forgot about it. And so anyway, throw out a promo code. Let’s give something away.

00:01:28:01 –> 00:01:34:20
Okay, what do we wanna do in, in, in recognition of one of your old favorite license plates. Let’s do Hunt 365. Oh,

00:01:34:20 –> 00:01:38:04
That was my license plate. Now Mark Thompson’s boy. Got it. Scotty.

00:01:38:04 –> 00:01:40:18
Oh, Scott. Yeah, Scott does have that one. Huh? Ticks

00:01:40:18 –> 00:01:41:26
Me off. Well give them a plate. Oh, shoot.

00:01:41:28 –> 00:01:42:06
Yeah,

00:01:42:11 –> 00:01:49:03
Give them a to some long range boys. Cash Valley. I was gonna say Logan, but I guess it’s tech technically. What? High room? Yeah.

00:01:49:10 –> 00:01:49:18
Well,

00:01:50:04 –> 00:01:51:28
Paradise, what are they called? What is

00:01:52:01 –> 00:01:52:11
It? Doesn’t

00:01:52:11 –> 00:01:53:18
Matter. Cash Valley, Utah

00:01:54:03 –> 00:01:55:08
Ling or something. I

00:01:55:08 –> 00:02:27:18
Don’t know. All right. It depends on if you’re Scott or Mark over there and across the valley. So, but great guys, Thompson, long range, great setup. Weatherby rifles. Give ’em a call. The time of year to start getting something set up. If you’re serious, you gotta tag, you think you want more outta whatever you got with the rifle. Give Mark and Scott a call 1-800-584-FOUR 0 7 9 or thompson long range.com. Great guys. But anyway, we digressed just off the license plate. See that’s how this can turn on a Don Well, that

00:02:27:18 –> 00:02:35:20
License plate, like it was awesome. I’m like hunt 365. That’s awesome. And all I had to answer every day was like, what is Hunt 365? Man,

00:02:35:21 –> 00:02:37:00
How do you, how do, yeah, that one’s

00:02:37:00 –> 00:02:42:06
Crazy. And so I gave it up and then Scotty picks it up and it’s awesome. Makes you

00:02:42:06 –> 00:02:50:27
Wanna have, yeah, it is kind of funny that, that it was picked up by somebody we know. No. Well, you know what I mean? That’s pretty cool. But anyway, that’s our promo code. What are we giving away? What

00:02:50:27 –> 00:02:57:12
Do we wanna, so Hunt 365 is a promo code and I don’t know, what do you got in there? Give it, give it away. Let’s do it. Oh

00:02:57:14 –> 00:02:58:14
Man. I’ve got boobs.

00:02:58:14 –> 00:02:59:16
What about a pair? Yeah, let’s

00:02:59:16 –> 00:03:19:16
Give a pair of, you know, we ought to give away. We ought to give away the new, or I don’t know how new they’ve been around for a year. But the Raider Boot, let’s give away a Raider. It’s the UA Raider. You can look it up online. It’s PR Looks pretty awesome. I’m picking me up a pair soon here. And yeah, let’s give one away.

00:03:20:01 –> 00:03:20:07
All

00:03:20:07 –> 00:03:22:13
Right, so where do they enter that promo code? ’cause I don’t know.

00:03:22:20 –> 00:03:24:22
That’s on our website. Go to podcast. You gotta

00:03:24:22 –> 00:03:25:13
Go to our website. Yep.

00:03:25:25 –> 00:03:31:26
Epic outdoors.com. Probably back slash podcast. Black Cheff, H ml, I don’t know, whatever. So anyway, we

00:03:31:26 –> 00:03:34:04
Don’t have, the technical guys are not in here.

00:03:34:21 –> 00:03:35:23
Yeah, we kicked them out.

00:03:35:25 –> 00:03:45:29
But they’ll do that. Go to our Epic Outdoors website. Go to the podcast page and you can promo code. Submit the promo code there. Hunt 3, 6, 5 and we’ll, we’ll,

00:03:46:13 –> 00:03:47:16
What do you got there, Jason? Jason?

00:03:48:01 –> 00:03:54:18
Well, I got a mountain ops hat and I’m just, I don’t know, this box just randomly shows up. Like we get, people think they’re gonna get

00:03:54:27 –> 00:03:55:06
Free

00:03:55:06 –> 00:03:55:25
Promos for like,

00:03:56:00 –> 00:03:56:29
Just price of

00:03:57:03 –> 00:03:58:10
Listeners. And a lot

00:03:58:16 –> 00:04:14:22
Happened. A lot of you listeners have hit us up about how we got sponsored by Monster and how, what it takes to get checks from them. And we’d like to know ourselves. ’cause we’re not sponsored by them. And we have plugged them quite often.

00:04:15:00 –> 00:04:16:17
They don’t reach out to low, low

00:04:16:17 –> 00:04:27:24
People. But we are, yeah, small potatoes. Having said that, we appreciate a few of you members that all of of a sudden one day here’s a case or two of white monsters show up at the Epic office from Amazon

00:04:27:24 –> 00:04:28:04
Prime.

00:04:28:11 –> 00:04:30:13
Enjoy it boys. And hey,

00:04:30:23 –> 00:04:35:18
Well, and how about this? How about our little, our table fair here? Yeah.

00:04:35:21 –> 00:04:38:26
This is peanuts, cracker jacks, you know, all that kind of stuff.

00:04:39:05 –> 00:04:40:22
Thank you Mike. We appreciate it,

00:04:40:22 –> 00:04:41:18
Man. Mike who? Mike who?

00:04:41:25 –> 00:04:43:08
Mike. I don’t know. Should we say

00:04:43:08 –> 00:04:46:26
His last name? Well, Nevada Smith sent the latest flats of Monster. That was pretty awesome.

00:04:46:26 –> 00:04:47:26
Yeah. Nevada’s, I don’t know who

00:04:48:01 –> 00:04:51:17
Sent this mountain op stuff, but Have you tried it, Adam? It’s, I

00:04:51:23 –> 00:04:52:08
Tried yesterday

00:04:52:08 –> 00:04:53:05
Night. Did it ignite you?

00:04:53:05 –> 00:04:53:23
When I think,

00:04:54:06 –> 00:04:55:13
I think Adam loaded it a little heavy.

00:04:55:17 –> 00:04:58:29
Well, when it came, the day it came, I had already had a white monster.

00:04:59:05 –> 00:05:01:23
That’s, and that’s what I think really worked. I don’t think this,

00:05:02:00 –> 00:05:08:02
I had a white monster and I just said, all right, I’ll try it. We were gonna do a podcast two days ago, this podcast. So

00:05:08:02 –> 00:05:09:16
Basically you double fists it.

00:05:09:21 –> 00:05:10:07
Oh yeah.

00:05:11:17 –> 00:05:12:25
And some energy drinks.

00:05:13:03 –> 00:05:20:06
Have you ever been somewhere where you can hear your heart beating? Like just sitting on the mountain after you get done hiking? You sit down, you can hear it

00:05:20:06 –> 00:05:20:18
Cranking.

00:05:21:18 –> 00:05:35:14
I heard that sitting at my desk calmly the other day. So I don’t, I’m not gonna throw either one of those companies under the bus. But it was just a, it was a cocktail. Probably not made for the heart.

00:05:36:23 –> 00:05:39:20
I’m doing this, I’m doing the tiger’s blood, I’m doing the

00:05:39:20 –> 00:05:49:16
Tiger, whatever that is. But it was, I, I felt like I could do anything that day. I could, I could try out for the, oh, Las Vegas Raiders football team. I felt like I could do anything.

00:05:50:03 –> 00:05:59:07
Well I hear that these supplements don’t have to be f d A approved, which has makes me nervous. But hey, monster cannot be f d a. Oh, it’s not. It’s no

00:05:59:07 –> 00:06:00:05
Way’s. There’s no

00:06:00:05 –> 00:06:04:20
Chance anything that can be used as starting fluid and probably

00:06:04:20 –> 00:06:06:08
Carb, carb cleaners starting fluid combo.

00:06:08:00 –> 00:06:33:06
Probably not. Good for you. But anyway, we digress. So today we just thought we would talk a little bit about our year and, and not from a, Hey, listen to all the tags we got this year, guys, we’re gonna crush it. It’s from a perspective of some of us, all of us here have kids in the game. We’ve talked about that quite often in the last few years. We’ve taken our kids on hunts. So collectively, too many hunts.

00:06:33:19 –> 00:06:36:16
Too many hunts. He spoiled, spoiled, spoiled kids

00:06:36:22 –> 00:06:51:22
Collectively from our own hunts. It’s true. And what they’ve drawn now that we’re applying our kids that are 12 to 17, wow. We got a lot on the table. And not all of ’em are once in lifetime tags. Which by the way, congratulations Jason.

00:06:51:28 –> 00:06:53:01
Thanks. Yeah. How about that?

00:06:53:07 –> 00:06:58:20
22 years. And we got desert sheet number two coming home to the Carter family this year. Year. Oh

00:06:58:20 –> 00:07:02:23
Man. Yeah. It’d be my second, second desert. You know, if we kill one, of course a guy.

00:07:02:25 –> 00:07:08:18
Oh, that’s right. I guess I’m assuming a little, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. But you drew an Arizona tag. Yeah,

00:07:08:20 –> 00:07:21:08
Drew an Arizona tag, went and applied. My first choice was 28, second choice was the 16 a South 18 B, kind of under the radar type unit. But the last two years they’ve killed 170 inch rams on the one tag they gave. So

00:07:21:08 –> 00:07:25:00
New, new non-resident eligible unit this year. ’cause they bumped it to two tags. Yep.

00:07:25:05 –> 00:07:30:22
Yep. So through in, through, in for that one, it’s lot, you know, lot of unknowns there. But

00:07:31:01 –> 00:07:32:23
Have you ever been on the unit? Have you been? No.

00:07:33:02 –> 00:07:33:08
No.

00:07:33:11 –> 00:07:38:08
This is gonna be new. You just looked at the odds. Spread ’em out on the table and say, when I look

00:07:38:08 –> 00:07:44:02
Dark, I looked at the map. There’s a place called Baghdad on the edge. And path makes me nervous because I have no interest in going to Baghdad.

00:07:44:17 –> 00:07:44:24
But

00:07:44:27 –> 00:07:53:22
So, but December 1st, actually, probably a week before that we know we’re all gonna be, oh, it’s gonna be a party in the desert. Get Thanksgiving done.

00:07:54:21 –> 00:08:01:11
So anybody that wants to come on out and look for, look for a big old desert sheep, we’re gonna, we’re gonna hunt for a giant. But anyway,

00:08:01:11 –> 00:08:03:08
It’ll be a party in the desert show up and

00:08:03:12 –> 00:08:03:26
Baghdad

00:08:04:28 –> 00:08:05:11
Around

00:08:05:11 –> 00:08:07:10
Thanksgiving. See what your wife has to

00:08:07:10 –> 00:08:07:20
Say about that.

00:08:08:16 –> 00:08:14:14
Ask her if she could have Thanksgiving there this year. See? See how that goes. We had to

00:08:14:14 –> 00:08:16:10
Talk Friday. Go sheep, honey. That’s

00:08:16:10 –> 00:08:31:14
Right. Well that’s the thing. That was a random draw. There’s 10 non-resident tags. Just a truly a random draw. Even though I had a lot of points and I did have more names in the hat to get a random draw. It could have been any of my family. It could be anybody. Yeah. When we apply Adam, speaking of that, we had a couple

00:08:31:15 –> 00:08:32:20
Of guys think we know of four

00:08:32:21 –> 00:08:35:01
Of the 10 non-resident tags that have drawn. Yeah, we did.

00:08:35:01 –> 00:08:36:26
Personally. Two others in our office. Three

00:08:36:26 –> 00:08:37:29
In three of us. Three

00:08:38:17 –> 00:08:40:06
In our office. Meaning our clients Epic

00:08:40:14 –> 00:08:41:28
Outdoors clients. Yeah. Yeah. Three

00:08:41:28 –> 00:08:42:19
License application,

00:08:42:19 –> 00:08:46:12
33% of just come out of big outdoors people. So

00:08:46:13 –> 00:08:48:06
Just license applications, you know, we got some,

00:08:48:23 –> 00:08:50:05
How about that cool story.

00:08:50:05 –> 00:08:51:16
That same situation in Idaho too.

00:08:51:23 –> 00:09:07:08
Cool story. Will probably crush Jason or Ram. And we got one of our clients, we’re actually gonna guide him down there. We’ll just jump over to the ne neighboring unit. 79 year old gentleman drew a desert sheep tag to finish his grand slam.

00:09:07:16 –> 00:09:15:20
You would’ve thought he was on, you would’ve thought he was on the Easter. You would’ve thought he double fisted. Did the whole Adam double fist deal? Yeah,

00:09:16:14 –> 00:09:23:24
He, he called me at six o’clock the other, the morning. ’cause I left him a message the night and said, Hey, it happened. You know, you’re gone, you drew. And

00:09:24:01 –> 00:09:24:22
The wait is over.

00:09:24:27 –> 00:09:46:25
He’s on the east coast. And that next morning at six, my phone woke up, my alarm was set for six 30. So it didn’t get to hear that. And he was yelling on the phone at six o’clock e eight o’clock eastern in his defense and fired up. He told me that day, he reminded me, I guess maybe I knew, but 52 years he killed his doll sheep in 1966.

00:09:47:09 –> 00:09:48:05
Wow. Oh my gosh.

00:09:48:15 –> 00:09:51:25
52 years ago. So from start to finish, 52 years.

00:09:52:05 –> 00:09:54:01
He’s one of the most unlucky people. Yeah.

00:09:54:09 –> 00:10:10:29
He had one’s one under max is what he had. So he still even got lucky. Drew a drew a tag. And too hard of a just to, you just couldn’t say, you know, all right, good luck. Send you elsewhere. We’re gonna go help him out on as hunt and kill him a great round.

00:10:11:12 –> 00:10:13:28
Well he said, Adam, I have been working with you

00:10:14:15 –> 00:10:21:14
For years. He has. And so how do you, so we’ll get all the licenses and ready to go. And I guess we’ll be jump over there as soon as they’re done with Jason. So be fun.

00:10:21:17 –> 00:10:22:28
It’ll be awesome. Can’t wait.

00:10:23:07 –> 00:11:00:07
So anyway, yeah, this podcast is just kind of, you know, we’re gonna talk about that from and from, from our perspective of where we’re gonna be this fall and how that translates and what that means for, for members of Epic outdoors. ’cause really a lot of our hunts for going on are gonna be stuff that we’re seeing and doing for the first time, which just goes in our knowledge bank, which helps us to allow, write the magazine consults. Yes. Next year passes that on to, to members. We, we, we get a lot of people that say, Hey guys are so lucky you just get a hunt and goof around. Do all that. How would that be? Well, yeah, it kind of sucks. Quit your job, which we’ve done a couple times in our life,

00:11:00:17 –> 00:11:01:18
Or we’ve been fired. Yep,

00:11:01:18 –> 00:11:20:22
That’s right. So quit your job and say, I’m gonna go do my own thing now and make something of it. ’cause that’s literally how, how we’ve done it. And I’m not saying that in a boastful, I’m just saying, I, I have people all the time that, that tell me how to be just a hutt and fish and Yeah. Change

00:11:20:22 –> 00:11:22:18
The priority scale. Don’t get paid to wet a line. That’s

00:11:22:18 –> 00:11:35:20
Right. Yeah. And they don’t see how much time and work and effort goes into it, nor do they see how much it really, I don’t have anything else. Like, we joke a lot, even though Jason bought a boat. He’s got another hobby now.

00:11:36:09 –> 00:12:00:22
He does. We don’t have a sad thing about it is I’ve had a hundred people hit me. Like, now you, I I remember on a podcast just saying that you don’t have any other hobbies, don’t have a, there’s no other hobbies. And by the way, you don’t have a boat. And that’s why you kill big deer. And so everybody’s knows I’m just gonna fall flat on my face. And I, and I probably am. ’cause I, I gotta tell you, it is pretty fun. And the, the kids love it. Oh, that’s awesome. So anyway.

00:12:00:22 –> 00:12:03:10
Well, and you got a limited amount with those boys, but I mean, you, you gotta

00:12:03:15 –> 00:12:30:16
Oh yeah. Over. No, my kids, I’m watching them leave the house and that’s pretty much why I did it. And when Janet and I have been waiting to get a boat, be just waiting to bring them back into the fold, you know, knowing that they’re leaving. I got a 17 and a half that’s going on. 28 thinks he’s gonna set the world on fire. And then I got a 16 year old that’s ready to kill every cow in the world and doesn’t want, you know, they’re leaving. They’re getting, I’m seeing

00:12:30:16 –> 00:12:32:01
The end. They’re getting independent. Yeah. They’re

00:12:32:02 –> 00:12:33:13
Adam, you’ve had a kid. Yeah. I mean,

00:12:33:15 –> 00:12:48:06
You see, yeah, I have, I have, my oldest is in college, a senior here at college, and and the other two are coming right behind him. So, and Jeff, yours are getting the 12 to 15. They’re kind of getting to that age. You’re, so anyway, we’re digressing once again. Nevertheless,

00:12:48:23 –> 00:13:02:12
The boat is gonna be used to find big deer and, and I, I, I, I got in at four 30 in the morning running trail cameras because we have a boat. I’m, we’re doing ’em all night long, all day long, all night long. And then go boating. So how

00:13:02:12 –> 00:13:09:13
Old does the B T X work from the dock of the boat? I mean, how does that, is it, is it smooth enough to keep the B T X

00:13:09:13 –> 00:13:13:26
Going? I’ll tell you, I’m gonna tell you soon enough. I’m gonna tell you soon enough. Right now I’m just scouting out good areas.

00:13:14:15 –> 00:13:14:22
So

00:13:14:22 –> 00:13:15:28
There you go. From a, from an

00:13:15:28 –> 00:13:21:23
Eboard. But anyway, we thought we’d run down. Yeah. Everything, what we got, you know, I think we did the, well, I think

00:13:22:13 –> 00:13:31:17
The, you started it Adam, with, with us going into new units and, and one of those being unit 22 in Colorado. Yeah. And, and one of the most, go

00:13:31:17 –> 00:13:32:05
Give that shot this

00:13:32:05 –> 00:13:39:18
Year. One of the most talked about units and yet we have never hunted it. And we’ve hunted, I don’t know, 20 or 30 different units in Colorado. So Yeah.

00:13:39:18 –> 00:13:54:11
Yeah. So there’s another new one that, we’ll, we’ll get some experience in the office. A couple of us perhaps. So where else, I mean, there’s Colorado, your kid’s got some tags. I think one of ’em is gonna keep ’em, a couple of ’em. You’re probably gonna turn it back because I

00:13:54:11 –> 00:14:00:11
Already turned them back. I need the cash. Well, I drew an $1,800 sheep hut. You think about the

00:14:00:20 –> 00:14:01:23
18, it is expensive. 1800.

00:14:01:25 –> 00:14:12:29
That is a lot money. And that’s a, it’s a lot, but it’s kind of cheap compared to New Mexico. But you look at it and you’re like, Hey, 30 of those is a nor is a normal man’s wage. Yeah. That’s, you know what I mean? That’s, it’s right. It’s getting expensive. Yeah.

00:14:13:04 –> 00:14:31:25
And so, well, and, and, and when we start applying, like a lot of us, we start applying in January, February and you just start throwing crap out everywhere. Yeah. Applications. And for our kids, we can’t be as stringent on them on trophy only because they just need to go hunting or else, you know, they need to be, they need to have some experience and

00:14:31:25 –> 00:14:38:26
Then all of a sudden, well you be a little more aggressive because sometimes the cost is significantly less to get those kids building and drawing. Yeah. Than it is for us. So you

00:14:38:26 –> 00:15:05:23
Get Arizona, you get, you know, Utah generals, we live here, they can get that. But then you get some second choice Colorados. But then Jason’s kid, they drew some New Mexico, they drew Nevada, they drew Wyoming. So pretty soon they’re like, okay, we’re turning, turning back to Colorado second choice tags. You just get rid of the things that Yeah. Really aren’t as high a priority what they already have on the table. ’cause we got some greyhounds, I think we added up. Let’s, let’s look, let’s list the states, Arizona, we’ll be there both for sheep.

00:15:05:23 –> 00:15:06:29
So tell me about this deer tag.

00:15:07:23 –> 00:15:08:01
Yeah.

00:15:08:22 –> 00:15:09:13
Speaking of Arizona,

00:15:09:15 –> 00:15:10:06
My, my kid

00:15:11:25 –> 00:15:11:28
Ty,

00:15:12:10 –> 00:15:18:25
Three points. He’s a lucky kid. He, he’s lucky. He, for two years really, he drew one of the best late season coups tags in Arizona

00:15:19:09 –> 00:15:23:04
This year. This year. And last year he drew an awesome milder tag up in Idaho.

00:15:23:04 –> 00:15:28:16
That’s right. So on the second three points draw. Yeah. He drew that one night on the second draw’s,

00:15:28:16 –> 00:15:29:16
Second deer tag this year that

00:15:29:16 –> 00:15:34:26
He’s, yeah, he’s got a Henry Mountains muzzle loader deer tag for the management bug. So, so he’s

00:15:34:26 –> 00:15:38:11
Gonna, he’s just like, dad, no problem. I want to kill a 38 inch three by eight.

00:15:38:13 –> 00:15:41:22
Yeah. That’s all he said. He sees bucks,

00:15:41:27 –> 00:15:42:26
Can he sees,

00:15:43:03 –> 00:15:44:06
Do you know good guy dad.

00:15:45:04 –> 00:15:47:20
And I tell him, I says, yeah, save your lawn mowing.

00:15:47:23 –> 00:15:49:10
I’ve already called the biologist. Yeah.

00:15:49:16 –> 00:15:51:19
By the way, my truck needs to be cleaned again. That’s right.

00:15:52:11 –> 00:15:57:18
So we’ll be down there in Arizona quite a bit in December and it’ll be fun. It’s, you know,

00:15:57:20 –> 00:15:59:00
Kill 110 inch or maybe, you know,

00:15:59:03 –> 00:16:03:02
Hopefully. Yeah. Have a great time there. So we’re gonna crush that New Mexico. That’ll be

00:16:03:02 –> 00:16:08:05
Right after we kill two desert sheep. In fact. Yes. I don’t even know if we’re gonna be in the office in December,

00:16:08:15 –> 00:16:10:22
Which is kind of scary ’cause December’s a little busy.

00:16:10:24 –> 00:16:11:29
Yeah, you’re gonna be in the office.

00:16:12:00 –> 00:16:12:20
We’re gonna get that.

00:16:13:14 –> 00:16:13:24
We’re

00:16:13:24 –> 00:16:14:05
Gonna get that

00:16:14:05 –> 00:16:15:06
January magazine trying

00:16:15:06 –> 00:16:16:14
To be in the office. I’ll be in the office. We’re

00:16:16:14 –> 00:16:24:26
Gonna get that Jag January magazine done well in advance and, and add the changes that we need to as regs get finalized for Wyoming and Arizona. We just

00:16:24:26 –> 00:16:27:29
Keep digressing. But it is our podcast. We can go wherever we want with it.

00:16:28:10 –> 00:16:32:17
New Mexico, we’ve got some, we’ve got elk and deer in New Mexico

00:16:32:27 –> 00:16:38:07
And the thing’s on fire. I don’t know if there’s ever been a worse drought since, well, since they Well there’s a lot

00:16:38:07 –> 00:16:42:29
Of rain. There’s a lot of rain coming through right now. We just hope Yeah. Hope that it’s hitting the right places.

00:16:43:05 –> 00:16:44:10
Yeah. But so it’s

00:16:44:10 –> 00:16:48:05
Just washing the stunted velvet, the dust off the stunted velt. For

00:16:48:05 –> 00:16:50:02
All intents and purposes, there’s seven eights built

00:16:51:11 –> 00:16:52:28
Elk car. They’re, they’re mostly built

00:16:53:01 –> 00:16:55:04
And people are having a hard time finding six points. Yeah.

00:16:55:26 –> 00:17:05:24
So then we go to Utah, we’re gonna crush the heck outta this state for mainly deer. I don’t think anybody else. No, Jeff, your dad right now. I think you’d drew a sheep tag depending on what we’ll find there.

00:17:05:27 –> 00:17:08:26
He one of the best Rocky mountain, Rocky mountain sheep tags in the state. Oh

00:17:08:29 –> 00:17:09:22
Wow. Yeah.

00:17:10:08 –> 00:17:11:25
Adam will be guiding a client in there. Bunch

00:17:11:25 –> 00:17:18:02
Of sheep, bunch of sheep hunters in Utah ourselves. And, and, and, and like I said, kids, kids tag Oliver gen

00:17:18:07 –> 00:17:30:20
Tags. Tag my kids. Drew an antelope out here nipped right behind the house. That’s right. Second or third best unit in the state. Lucky. That’s right. I told him, I’m like, look kid, you’re driving all over. Heck doing whatever the heck you want. Why don’t you freaking go scout. Yeah, go scout.

00:17:31:02 –> 00:17:32:02
Go get some cameras up.

00:17:32:05 –> 00:17:36:18
He’s like, oh yeah, I guess I could dad. I guess I could. Where’s some anyway, where’s order him? The maps? Yeah.

00:17:37:08 –> 00:17:54:06
Colorado. We’ll be hitting that. Several of us for deer. I don’t think we have any other species other than that. Colorado. Colorado this year. Wyoming. We’ve got some antelope tags in the office and elk tags. Jason’s one of your boys. Yeah. Big ho. And one of your boys? Boys. Jeff Drew Antelope. Drew Antelope. Yep. Jeff or Jason, your boy drew an elk tag. Yeah.

00:17:54:06 –> 00:18:16:13
Unit 40 up in the big horns. I’m, you know, the more I learn about it, the more I’m hearing the word three 50. Which I don’t know, but he, Colton would be ecstatic. First bull with any nice bull. Yeah. He first elk. I mean, Sean’s killed elk down in New Mexico on the youth hunt in unit 15, you know, a few years back. But for Colton, this will be his first bull. So, but he’s a picky sucker. He wouldn’t even shoot a 28 inch three

00:18:16:14 –> 00:18:17:07
By last

00:18:17:07 –> 00:18:17:22
Year to

00:18:17:22 –> 00:18:21:01
Four last year. The general Utah, super heavy general Utah. I’m like, Colton, that’s a great

00:18:21:02 –> 00:18:22:02
Old buck. Big old buck.

00:18:22:03 –> 00:18:26:05
Yeah. He’s like, doesn’t have four points. I’m like, yeah, he’s got an igar, he’s fine.

00:18:27:09 –> 00:18:31:29
And you’re like, I’d like to, I’d like you to kill a deer just to get him outta the gene hole. ’cause kill that buck’s. Winning. Didn’t buck. He didn’t

00:18:31:29 –> 00:18:41:11
Kill a buck. I’m like, just tell me how many days you’ve scouted. Just tell me how many days you’ve scouted. ’cause that kind of goes in. That’s true. Kind of just justify passing stuff if you’ve worked, you know, but if you haven’t and

00:18:41:11 –> 00:18:42:25
If you got better bucks already worked over.

00:18:43:17 –> 00:18:47:13
Yeah. But anyway, hard passing that. Yep. So anyway. Where does that bring us?

00:18:48:01 –> 00:19:10:02
I guess after we leave Wyoming, Montana, Jeff, I think that’s nine states. I didn’t count Montana earlier. We’re gonna be hunting nine states. Yeah. Just the general there this year. Montana, general Elk moving to Idaho. We’re a lot of us gonna be hunting deer either on the general, a couple controlled hunts for some of our kids and all that. You know, moderate, moderate controlled hunts. Not none of us got lucky in the late stuff. Kids

00:19:10:23 –> 00:19:12:12
Guaranteed. Ashley will be killing her first year up there.

00:19:12:12 –> 00:19:14:26
That’s right. Jason’s 11. 11 year, year

00:19:14:26 –> 00:19:35:10
Old daughter. Yep. She just got Hunter Ed and, and bought her own tackle box yesterday with all her own tackle stuff. She’s fishing, she’s for fishing. Well, so Jana, when I’m running cameras or in the office, she takes ’em to Lake on the hill and she just, Justin just hoards all the tackle box and just gets on her. Ashley, what’d you do’s? Getting another snag. You know, and

00:19:35:10 –> 00:19:36:05
She’s done with it. Losing

00:19:36:05 –> 00:19:36:22
Lose. She’s,

00:19:36:22 –> 00:19:37:07
She’s done with it.

00:19:37:10 –> 00:19:38:04
I’m building my own

00:19:38:17 –> 00:19:43:20
With her own money. This is my own, her own money. She goes out, buys a tackle box and all the stuff to go in it. I mean, she’s got

00:19:43:28 –> 00:19:46:12
14 brothers, so big brother. Be quiet. I’m fishing on my own.

00:19:46:15 –> 00:19:52:01
Dude. She’s awesome. She’s gonna make somebody an awesome wife. But they’ve gotta pass the test. I don’t, I don’t know if it’s

00:19:52:01 –> 00:19:54:17
Gonna happen. That’s right. We’ve all got daughters and that’s,

00:19:55:01 –> 00:19:55:14
I’ve told her,

00:19:55:21 –> 00:19:56:10
Buck, stop. Clear.

00:19:56:10 –> 00:20:04:05
Here’s the deal. You’re running all your boyfriends and your future husband by me. You understand that, right? Yes, dad. So we’ll see. Anyway,

00:20:04:06 –> 00:20:15:11
That’ll be awesome. See how it’ll works out. She’s 14. Idaho’s a great state. They changed the hunting age a couple years ago to 10. Yep. So allowed her to, she couldn’t hunt in Utah this year, so That’s

00:20:15:11 –> 00:20:22:07
Fine. Guaranteed to tag up there. Anybody wants to do that, can do that. Obviously. Get a general tag. This was a pretty, you know, an unlimited draw tag. So

00:20:22:07 –> 00:20:28:13
Yeah, my kids drew a couple antelope tags up there. So I mean, hilarious Drew application.

00:20:28:21 –> 00:20:32:08
So an so everybody knows how we feel about antelope and we love them. They’re just kind of,

00:20:32:09 –> 00:20:32:20
We just

00:20:32:20 –> 00:20:35:08
Want one day a year, not two. And so

00:20:36:24 –> 00:21:02:07
Back and we were replying, we’re like, well we do deer and elk up there. ’cause if you’re buying the hunting license, you’re gonna do deer and elk. Or if you did sheep, you’re obviously sitting it out. But we were talking about antelope one day and it was, I think about the time Jeff was applying in Wyoming. And I’m like, I think I’m gonna sit out Wyoming. Yes. And, and I said, I’m not gonna put my kids in individually in Idaho because I don’t, you don’t go up there, drive, drive up there for an

00:21:02:07 –> 00:21:02:24
Antelope for a

00:21:02:24 –> 00:21:08:18
Three hour hunt, hopefully shoot antelope to drive home. That’s what you said. So I said, I’m putting my two kids in as a group.

00:21:08:21 –> 00:21:09:17
I’ll go for a pair,

00:21:09:26 –> 00:21:11:20
I’ll go for two, I’ll hunt for five hours.

00:21:12:13 –> 00:21:12:29
And well,

00:21:13:12 –> 00:21:16:20
They drew a group out of a unit with 50 tags. They drew two,

00:21:17:00 –> 00:21:17:08
It’s

00:21:17:08 –> 00:21:32:24
Hilarious. They could go to non-res. It’s hilarious. It’s, it’ll be fun. Well, they’ll make a quick three day trip up there sometime late September, early October. That’ll be a fun one new unit that we’ve never ne none of us. I don’t think we’ve ever run an antelope up there. Not that I think we’re, I’m cool for doing that. No,

00:21:32:27 –> 00:21:35:16
But it’s kind of fun dude. New for us here. And

00:21:35:16 –> 00:21:52:08
You’re something my kids. I mean, it’s, it’s a lot of fun. I mean, my, my daughter, she’s funny because my boy’s drawn a couple hard to get tags this year. And that Arizona tag, we had a charge on the card like Jason with a sheep. And for four or five days it was like, you know who it is, who

00:21:52:08 –> 00:21:54:08
Is this? Oh, she’s thinking it’s her. And well,

00:21:54:12 –> 00:22:00:28
Ty’s burned his luck this year. She’s no, she’s, she was bummed. Bummed. ’cause she just said, I know it’s him because he’s the lucky one. You

00:22:00:28 –> 00:22:04:10
Really putting that ignite in there? I do. I I’m gonna try. Okay. So keep going.

00:22:04:19 –> 00:22:46:29
And process of elimination. It’s not me, it’s not my wife, it’s not my oldest daughter. All right. It’s down to, down to you too. Then I looked her up because I’m like, I want don’t want her to be last ’cause So I looked her up, no was not her. And I’m like, oh crap. And so she’s mad. She storms outta the room and, and my boy’s at scout camp so he’s not even there to be around it. And he didn’t draw. His first choice was, which was a late mule deer hunt, which was hopeful. You know, everybody had awesome late mule deer hunts. It had one coose on, on all out of 10 choices. We had one coose hunt and they were all gonna be late mule there. But anyway, long story short, she’s happy now. And she says, well yeah, see, but I had to apply with him to get drawn ’cause he’s the lucky one, so, oh,

00:22:47:17 –> 00:22:49:11
You’re not gonna no matter what. Oh

00:22:49:11 –> 00:22:51:07
My God. So, but anyway, it’ll be fun. So

00:22:51:11 –> 00:22:52:22
Ty’s got three. He’s got

00:22:52:22 –> 00:23:04:00
Great hunts. Got some good hunts. Yeah, he does. He really does. Lucky little bugger. And, and, and go, going back to what Jason was saying, what were we do, we were hunting rabbits when we were 13. That’s true. We couldn’t hunt. True.

00:23:04:13 –> 00:23:07:05
I couldn’t hunt until I was 16. Right. Yeah. The age limit changed

00:23:07:05 –> 00:23:08:14
The year when we could hunt.

00:23:09:00 –> 00:23:10:13
I remember. That’s right. But I, and I had to wait I

00:23:10:28 –> 00:23:12:13
14, I think I was 15.

00:23:12:15 –> 00:23:15:01
15, yes. And I, the old part

00:23:15:07 –> 00:23:15:12
Was 16,

00:23:15:21 –> 00:23:21:18
What was now considered the book Cliffs was general up the Green River. I went up into there. That’s where I killed my first buck. Yeah.

00:23:21:28 –> 00:23:24:06
It changed after about or

00:23:24:06 –> 00:23:26:26
15 rounds. Yeah. One of those,

00:23:26:28 –> 00:23:27:22
That’s kid hunts

00:23:27:22 –> 00:23:38:11
Right there. Oh dude. It was a 3 0 8. My mom’s 3 0 8 that was sought off with a magna port on the end. And who knows, that thing was probably moving at 2100 feet a second. I dunno, you probably run faster in this thing.

00:23:38:19 –> 00:23:40:04
Muzzle loader. Shoot faster than that now.

00:23:40:04 –> 00:23:42:17
That’s right. So anyway, but

00:23:42:29 –> 00:24:12:05
It was back to that. I, I say that to you, our kids are spoiled. And of course we love our kids and we’re not, we’re joking because of, you know, we’re applying ’em because we’ve been building points and it’s another name in the hat. And some of these states have great youth opportunities. Some just give youth a break on the price. But honestly, some of our best tags in this office this year are all of our kids tags that moves us from Idaho down to Nevada. Speaking to that, Jason, one of your boys has a late season deer

00:24:12:06 –> 00:24:26:02
Tag. The late season in 1 21. And that was, that’s another unit that’s been coming on. We’ve, we’ve heard a lot more about it and hearing about 30 inch bucks and seeing ’em, seeing the kill pictures and whatnot. And so anyway, you know, threw ’em in for that and sure

00:24:26:02 –> 00:24:32:10
Enough, can’t, predictably can’t predict anything in Nevada and drawing. And you know, he couldn’t have had more than four or five points. No, no,

00:24:32:17 –> 00:24:40:24
No, no. I, I plugged in, you know, Sean in with, because Colton had remember Elk and Wyoming. Oh yeah. Deer in Utah. Antelope

00:24:40:24 –> 00:24:41:12
In Utah. Utah. And a local In Utah.

00:24:41:14 –> 00:24:44:21
In Utah. So he’s got like a full plate. And so I You

00:24:44:21 –> 00:24:45:20
Just did late hunts for him.

00:24:45:20 –> 00:24:55:09
Well I played him late and I just did him by himself. Jana had more points. So she kind of boosted Sean. Sean draws the same, same unit but an earlier season. Yeah. So anyway. And

00:24:55:09 –> 00:24:59:27
Then your own tags over there. So it’s like, oh, Nevada is owning you right now.

00:25:00:01 –> 00:25:03:12
Oh yeah, yeah. Well it did till four 30 in the morning with the, still getting my butt kicked

00:25:03:17 –> 00:25:41:23
With the deadline in three weeks. When you gotta have TRO cameras back home in Utah. Oh yeah. And all that with that new TRO camera law that they got there. So you’re doing what we can for a few more weeks. And then where’s that put us Alaska. Jeff, we’re heading up, you’re heading up there for caribou. You and your dad and brother. Yeah. Getting excited. Self. I’m option hunt. You’ve gotta put a lot of time and work into that. Researching that. Something that Jason and I have talked about and I regret now because quotas have changed from most places up there from being able to shoot two caribou to one. Now in some places they’ve closed down for non-residents. But anyway, that’ll be fun. You’re going up there. What timeframe?

00:25:42:14 –> 00:25:46:09
Oh, going up on the 11th hunt opens 12th. Does

00:25:46:09 –> 00:25:46:27
Your wife know?

00:25:47:24 –> 00:25:50:29
I hope she doesn’t. Yeah, she knows. She bought the plane ticket for us. Did you

00:25:50:29 –> 00:25:52:18
Finish the basement and finish the yard? Oh

00:25:52:18 –> 00:25:53:27
No. Oh no. It’s how,

00:25:54:01 –> 00:25:54:23
How’s this gonna

00:25:54:23 –> 00:26:00:27
Shake out? Keep working on it. How’s this if keep working on it. Just make it seem like you’re really putting forth a great effort. You know, hopefully

00:26:00:27 –> 00:26:03:28
She’s, Hey, I saw you had drywall in the basement. She can’t complain too loud. Yeah,

00:26:03:28 –> 00:26:12:05
We’re, we’re chipping away at it. It’s hard when you’re trying to do it. Bunch yourself. It’s, it’s idiotic of me. I know. But you know, eh, it’s the way we roll.

00:26:12:13 –> 00:26:16:15
So self-guided caribou, you’re gonna go up there, you’re driving, your

00:26:16:15 –> 00:26:17:10
Dad is okay. So

00:26:17:15 –> 00:26:19:21
You need to take oil and a filter with you.

00:26:21:08 –> 00:26:22:00
Ask away. Stop.

00:26:22:10 –> 00:26:25:00
We’re tripping my truck down, tripping my truck all the way down.

00:26:25:00 –> 00:26:26:20
Take seven injectors. ’cause your truck’s knocked in.

00:26:27:11 –> 00:26:27:20
Yeah.

00:26:27:26 –> 00:26:29:04
Knew his truck on the road. Yeah.

00:26:29:26 –> 00:26:34:27
2011. It’s you got 170 heavy, five heavy

00:26:35:07 –> 00:26:36:17
Miles heavy. Seven years old.

00:26:37:07 –> 00:26:59:10
Oh yeah, dude. Well, when we were driving around doing, doing the work we were doing, it was, it was pretty intense. And so, so put a lot of miles on. So anyway, stripping it down, loading it down with gear, hooking on a trailer. Dad’s driving up with my mom. They’re going up there, they’re going to fish for a couple days. Cut fish for two, three days, putting my mom on a plane, flying her home. Me and my brother are flying in. That sounds like

00:26:59:13 –> 00:27:07:00
Hunt the easy route. That sounds like what? Yeah, dad, you do that. Take all my gear. So I have every gear. I don’t have to keep it to 50 pounds. I don’t

00:27:07:00 –> 00:27:08:02
Have to keep it to 50 pounds. I don’t have

00:27:08:02 –> 00:27:09:11
Worry about stuffing

00:27:09:11 –> 00:27:11:06
It in, worrying about extra bags. Getting lost.

00:27:11:23 –> 00:27:33:05
Lost How many Alaska Airlines gives Alaska residents unlimited luggage. So when I went on my bear hunt Yeah. Unlimited and no, no weight restrictions. So she goes, well you’re an Alaska resident, right? And I’m like, well, I’m gonna be up here long enough. I’m sure trying. And she’s like, she’s like, okay, free pass dude. No luggage fees. No luggage fees when

00:27:33:05 –> 00:27:33:24
You went on your bare hat.

00:27:33:24 –> 00:27:40:17
Yeah. And I’m like, so she’s like, and I’m like, so you’re telling me I could have unlimited luggage and no weight restrictions? She goes, yeah, it’s a little perk for residents.

00:27:40:29 –> 00:27:43:07
So you, so you could load up coolers full of fish.

00:27:43:20 –> 00:27:55:20
Oh yeah. She, I said that, I said that. She’s like, oh yeah, absolutely, but you gotta be a resident. But they don’t ask for proof, you know. And I was like, I was just teasing with her and she knew I was teasing with her and she just feeling good that day and just gave me a little free pass.

00:27:56:23 –> 00:27:57:13
Oh my

00:27:57:17 –> 00:27:57:19
Goodness.

00:27:58:08 –> 00:27:59:05
So nevertheless,

00:27:59:21 –> 00:28:01:17
Just flying up and yeah.

00:28:01:20 –> 00:28:09:13
So I’m flying up, me and my brother flying up. Then we get up there, we hunt. We’re gonna be hunting the 40 mile herd, running around between a couple different places

00:28:09:13 –> 00:28:11:02
Flying into Fairbanks. You and your brother flying

00:28:11:02 –> 00:28:18:14
Into Fairbanks. Yep. And then we will load up my dad. We’re gonna throw my dad on a plane. He’s gonna fly back so he can get back to work. And me and my brother all drive down.

00:28:18:28 –> 00:28:22:18
I did not know that twist. That’s nevermind. I don’t wanna sign up for that deal.

00:28:22:23 –> 00:28:23:07
Yeah. But

00:28:23:07 –> 00:28:24:13
At least I’ve got somebody else

00:28:24:17 –> 00:28:25:28
Driving with me so we can,

00:28:26:07 –> 00:28:28:18
I don’t wanna drive either leg of that, that

00:28:28:25 –> 00:28:29:11
Trip. No,

00:28:29:16 –> 00:28:35:26
I know. Well you gotta, you know, it’s, you not bad if you’re just flying back and forth, but you know, once you’re going into Canada, well now you gotta have a visa

00:28:35:26 –> 00:28:56:12
Custom and you gotta worry about all that stuff. Different stuff like that. Meat de-bone plates and skulls boiled off and whatever you gotta do there. Yep. So. Well N BBC’s beautiful. You drive down through BC the top part of it, down in, in through Alberta. Yes. It’s, it’s incredible country. So, and I’ll be up there hunting sheep here in a less than 30 days. Holy crap.

00:28:56:21 –> 00:29:01:20
So starting this whole thing off with a sheep hunt. Yes, you bet. Starting and ending with a sheep hunt. That’s

00:29:01:20 –> 00:29:19:12
Right. Yeah. August. Holy. We’ll be hunting sheep. Holy wow. Actually we’ll be all be down hunting in Nevada here in about few weeks. We got one of the statewide hunters. We’ll be done having fun there. Then we’ll go hunt doll sheep in Alaska and then come home and the whole world will open up. There’ll be bucks dying left and right. Nevada and Utah will be on.

00:29:19:21 –> 00:29:21:18
Gee, you won’t be able to keep up on Instagram.

00:29:21:20 –> 00:29:26:12
That’s right. Velvet hitting the dirt everywhere. So the gripping grins will be out in full force.

00:29:27:05 –> 00:29:30:11
Well some people don’t like gripping grins, but Yeah, we

00:29:30:16 –> 00:29:34:04
Do that. We do. We’re we’re still a proponent, I mean,

00:29:34:16 –> 00:29:45:22
Of enjoying the hunt. Yeah. Of enjoying the hunt. Absolutely. Show, show that you enjoy. Not be embarrassed. Absolutely. All right. So where does that bring us at? I know we’re forgetting some things. I need a map of the western US that’s

00:29:45:22 –> 00:29:47:19
Nine states we just covered Jason. Is it?

00:29:47:23 –> 00:29:48:12
Yeah. Okay.

00:29:48:23 –> 00:29:50:01
But I mean we could, long

00:29:50:01 –> 00:29:50:20
Story short, I did

00:29:50:20 –> 00:29:58:16
Turn back. Don’t think we covered every, every, every tag we have. We didn’t do that. We kind of no glossed over a few of the states where we know we’re gonna have multiples like Colorado deer and, but a lot

00:29:58:16 –> 00:30:25:28
Of this just to kind of give people some ideas, like there’s a lot you can do. There’s a lot you can do. And I even turned back some. I had 35 muzzle. Me and my kid Sean and another buddy of ours is gonna go ahead and keep after it. But yeah, just like, you know, and get a refund. ’cause ’cause when you draw your second you’ll still get a point. So I can get a refund for that. But that was just worst case scenario. No tags fall in your favor. You got something, I got something to fall back on. And it’s got the right genetics.

00:30:26:17 –> 00:30:31:28
Well and you know, this, this may seem like an over the top year and, and we’re not, this isn’t, it seems

00:30:31:28 –> 00:30:32:19
Like every year ends up,

00:30:32:29 –> 00:30:34:22
It’s every, every year’s like this. Tell

00:30:34:22 –> 00:30:36:25
My wife that I know because they’re all once in lifetime.

00:30:37:04 –> 00:30:44:14
Every year I tell my wife, I’m gonna back off a little bit, maybe take a few list, hundred sheet punters, whatever, and next year you got one or two more.

00:30:44:17 –> 00:30:47:19
Well then they grow grocery shopping and you’re like, no, I need to take another hunter.

00:30:48:06 –> 00:30:48:14
Yeah.

00:30:49:00 –> 00:30:50:28
Just finishing a basement. It’s like, yeah, geez.

00:30:51:00 –> 00:30:52:00
Yeah, yeah. We need to

00:30:52:00 –> 00:30:54:18
Figure out, yeah, I make a little more money in this

00:30:54:20 –> 00:30:58:18
Shop club, another house and yeah, maybe ask Adam and Jason for a raise. Yeah.

00:31:02:08 –> 00:31:02:14
So,

00:31:02:22 –> 00:31:03:11
Oh man.

00:31:03:17 –> 00:31:44:25
But yeah, it’s mainly just to give you a perspective of how, how serious we take our job. Yeah. We’re having fun doing it. It is work at times. It’s a grind at times. I’m not trying to ask for pity, but I’m just saying sometimes we’re going to units we know nothing about and we’re like, alright, after that hunt, we don’t want to go back. But we’ve learned it and we can help cut to the chase. I mean, I, I consulted to somebody yesterday. Jason gave me the call ’cause I’d been to this New Mexico unit 15 plus years ago. And, and I start talking to this guy and he started talking about camping and I told him where I was gonna camp. And he goes, that’s interesting. That’s the exact lake I was looking at camping at. And I’m like, well, it’s great, you know, fishing’s good and you know, if you’re gonna take horses, you got water, blah, blah, blah.

00:31:44:25 –> 00:32:48:25
But anyway, something I have done 15 years ago, a guy called you, he says, you’re the first person I’ve been able to actually talk to that actually been in this unit. And I’m like, well I you, you got lucky. ’cause you could have picked Unit X and it could have been nobody. No. But this stuff we’re talking about here in this podcast is another layer. There’s another year behind us that we can now consult our members on next year. Right about in the magazine from a first person. We’re not regurgitating stuff off of state websites and putting in our magazines. I mean, we glean from that, but a lot what we’re taking is, is firsthand or very close secondhand when we’re talking to friends members, things like that, hunting that. And so wanna just impress upon that on everybody’s minds that what we do is for, for our business, epic outdoors, to be a resource of helping you get tags. We’re not just this application game and this reading and stats and odds is not just a hey throw stuff out there and have, have fun applying for stuff. There’s goals to it. And that’s to get tags and to go hunting. Yeah. Because if you don’t do that very often it gets frustrating to keep going. That’s people throwing the towels. Look

00:32:48:25 –> 00:32:55:14
How many new tag, think how many new units, new units. These are not ones we’ve been to before. How many new units? We will just us three here.

00:32:55:21 –> 00:33:51:18
Well, I get get a charge, I get a charge, I’ll learning new stuff. I’m gonna be heading down to Vegas to find some big deer. Just, you know, just because I want it. Yeah. Like I got a buddy that Drew gonna go down there and learn it and crush it. In fact, maybe this weekend. So anyway, just, we’ll see what comes of it. You know, it’s just, I just love doing it. But speaking of that, if you don’t have a tag, you might get on the Hickory hunt.com webpage. They’ve got some left leftover, I call ’em leftover, unspoken four elk tags that are awesome. And a lot of it is just because the hickory is known for big deer and pricey big deer. So people just don’t have it in their minds that it’s that they also have some big bulls. So go to hickory hunt.com. I had the biologist on podcast earlier, you guys have probably listened to it. He was an awesome guy. His name’s Kyle Tater, super good guy. And, and I thought he did well. You know, they have 85% kill rates on art on their archery hunts. Unbelievable. Wow. I mean, kill rates on

00:33:51:18 –> 00:33:52:22
Archery. That’s the, that’s

00:33:52:22 –> 00:33:54:02
Key. Ry archery, archery

00:33:54:02 –> 00:33:55:07
Oak. And you know what’s funny is

00:33:55:07 –> 00:33:56:10
Good bull Bull solid bulls.

00:33:56:12 –> 00:34:06:01
Yeah. Like three 30 type bulls. And you know what’s funny is my kid drew the two B side for deer has the high, like over 50% kill rates for youth archery,

00:34:06:01 –> 00:34:07:23
Archery, deer, youth youth archery.

00:34:07:23 –> 00:34:29:04
And I’m like, and so it hard to believe, right? You look at, so I’m like, all right, let’s go do it. We went and did it and it’s unbelievable. It’s unbelievable. It makes our hunting here look stupid. So go to hickory hunt.com. You can also visit with Kyle. He’d be happy to visit with you. His, his direct line. I’m throwing it out there on the air. 5 7 5 7 5 9 3 2 5 5.

00:34:29:15 –> 00:34:31:28
What don’t you spell? Ria. It’s a different sound

00:34:32:01 –> 00:34:48:22
Reservation. Rio would be j i c a r i l l a hunt.com. And then anyway, first come, first serve. I’ve had a few guys hit me up, wanna know a little more about it. $7,000 tag if I remember right. And then a and a day, day guide fee to go that aren’t super

00:34:48:22 –> 00:34:49:22
Expensive. Yeah, yeah.

00:34:49:22 –> 00:34:55:28
Cheap. I don’t know about cheap but very affordable. I mean, you’re under 10 grand for a great elk hunt.

00:34:55:28 –> 00:34:57:06
Three 30 plus bulls.

00:34:57:06 –> 00:35:02:05
Yeah. So, so anyway, if anybody’s out there looking for an elk hunt, why have at it,

00:35:02:14 –> 00:35:46:16
It’s also the time of year we’re all looking it up. Updating gear, filling gaps in gear, replacing the gear that got worn out. Whether it be, you know, it doesn’t matter. One of our great sponsors, Q You is has been with us from the start. We’ve known Jason and his crew Jason Ton, that is from the start, from the inception, appreciate their support of ours. The fact I was on their website last night, filling in a couple more gaps of things that I thought I got a couple, few new pairs of their socks and things like that ordered. I’d already picked up a few other things, including the attack pro pant, which is their new pant for 2018. I picked up a pair of that here a few months ago when those came out. It’s just a few modifications to that little bit less pick resistant on the stove.

00:35:46:16 –> 00:36:23:28
Think got the Tory fabric a little bit. Pick resistant. It’s got some, some, you know, foam line knee pads, which I’m gonna use on my sheep hunt up north. I just know when you’re up there and there is hardly any vegetation to sit on, you’re kneeling and sitting on that shell rock all the time on a sheep hunt up there. I think they’ll come in handy. So check them out. They’ve got a full lineup of gear packs, everything like that. They’ve got sheep lists on their website or they’ve got, you know, deer lists or you know, picks and things like that. Whether you’re doing arch tree elk, whether you’re doing sheep or anything like that, encourage you to check out Q U k U iu.com and for all your gear needs or pack needs or whatever. So

00:36:24:16 –> 00:36:27:04
Do you think they had a, do you think they have a cleaning service?

00:36:28:13 –> 00:36:30:22
What do you got? What do you mean? What’s dirty Jeff? That

00:36:30:29 –> 00:36:33:01
Backpack like two months ago. Yeah, Jeff

00:36:33:14 –> 00:36:38:16
Is trashed. He put his back. It’s, he was hauling bear bait in his 72 model right

00:36:38:16 –> 00:36:38:19
Bear.

00:36:38:21 –> 00:36:40:10
Oh yes. And it was awesome. You told me

00:36:40:10 –> 00:36:44:01
Why you come, why don’t you come to daddy? I’d have got you an old model or something. Something that you could have.

00:36:44:01 –> 00:36:49:23
That’s what I probably, but I was like, I know I’m gonna be using it this fall. I would just, I just want be tuned up with it. I wanna make sure comfortable. And

00:36:49:23 –> 00:36:50:16
You loved the fit. It was a

00:36:51:02 –> 00:36:56:21
Dude. It is a very, very comfortable pack. Very comfortable. But it got

00:36:56:21 –> 00:36:58:01
Dirty. It smells now. Oh.

00:36:58:09 –> 00:36:59:07
Like molasses, bare

00:36:59:07 –> 00:36:59:15
Bait

00:37:00:08 –> 00:37:01:23
Grease, molasses grease.

00:37:02:06 –> 00:37:05:11
You’re a walking bait stand. Well you’re gonna be sighted.

00:37:05:19 –> 00:37:10:21
Well now I’m in, you gotta Alaska with grizzlies and I got a backpack that smells like,

00:37:11:05 –> 00:37:12:17
Oh yeah, death, death

00:37:12:28 –> 00:37:13:07
Bait

00:37:13:07 –> 00:37:16:19
Station. Yeah. You need to take that to the pressure washer and put that through a test.

00:37:16:28 –> 00:37:19:17
Yeah, it’s gone. It’s gone. It

00:37:19:17 –> 00:37:23:01
Needs some, you’re gonna need to get out the brush, foaming brush, the pink foam. Is

00:37:23:01 –> 00:37:25:01
There a degreaser? I’m gonna use the tire de greaser. Maybe

00:37:25:13 –> 00:37:29:18
I would, might take off the durable water repellent, you know, coating on there

00:37:29:18 –> 00:37:32:15
A little bit. Hey, speaking of which, you did kill a bear. I did kill a bear. Made us proud

00:37:32:17 –> 00:37:34:27
Right down to the end. Smashed one. Well,

00:37:34:27 –> 00:37:41:17
Okay. On film. So I’m heading on my, I’m heading on my family vacation. Yeah, I know. It’s gonna take the last four days of the hunter, whatever. I,

00:37:42:11 –> 00:37:47:15
It was surprising. I’m I going on a family vacation and we hear from him and he is down here still.

00:37:48:13 –> 00:37:49:00
Well, and

00:37:49:00 –> 00:37:50:23
His family went on the vacation without it. I’ve

00:37:50:23 –> 00:38:02:19
Got a boar. I finally got a nice boar that I, I mean, just been working my guts out trying to find one feeding, feeding bears. Like I can’t believe how much they can eat. They a bear can eat like

00:38:02:22 –> 00:38:03:29
Some serious dog food.

00:38:04:09 –> 00:38:12:03
Oh yeah. Well, you know, it felt like, it felt like you were going out doing your chores, feeding calves when you were a kid. You know what I mean? And you’re just feeding, you gotta

00:38:12:14 –> 00:38:14:26
Throwing stuff stuff out that’s gone in eight hours. It’s

00:38:14:26 –> 00:38:17:00
Gone. Yes. And like I’d take a hundred pounds of food

00:38:17:00 –> 00:38:21:17
On, remember on the ground when we were kids eat, we ate a little bit of dog food here and there. It just too good. None of us did.

00:38:21:26 –> 00:38:29:07
I do remember that, but maybe that’s what’s, maybe that’s what boosted our immunes immune system at an early age.

00:38:30:23 –> 00:38:34:06
That’s impressive. Keep going. I’ve never turned dog. Oh dude, you haven’t never.

00:38:34:11 –> 00:38:34:27
Oh shit.

00:38:34:28 –> 00:38:36:29
Oh, when you’re a kid, you try about anything kibbles

00:38:36:29 –> 00:38:37:23
And bits. Come on

00:38:38:01 –> 00:38:41:18
Jeff. Trust me. You ate, you ate dirt. You ate dog food. I promise

00:38:41:24 –> 00:38:42:11
I might’ve. I promise

00:38:42:15 –> 00:38:47:14
We are about eight years or 10, I don’t know, older years older than Jeff. So maybe, maybe the

00:38:47:14 –> 00:38:47:26
Dog food is

00:38:47:26 –> 00:38:54:24
Better than his dog. Food days are coming, especially after his wife here that he’s got all these tags all keep it all.

00:38:54:24 –> 00:38:55:04
That’s

00:38:55:05 –> 00:38:56:29
Probably true. If it’d be in the dog house, eating dog food.

00:38:57:01 –> 00:39:00:18
Hey, we had a dog feed principal. Wait, what?

00:39:02:03 –> 00:39:02:10
Oh,

00:39:04:13 –> 00:39:04:25
That’s

00:39:04:26 –> 00:39:05:14
For another podcast,

00:39:05:25 –> 00:39:15:24
But, okay. Yeah. So anyway, just leaving on, we were leaving, supposed to be leaving on family vacation. I sent my wife, I just said, okay, I, I got a bear coming in. It’s coming in the last two days at this time,

00:39:15:24 –> 00:39:18:06
Honey, take our 14 kids and enjoy your vacation.

00:39:18:11 –> 00:39:20:01
Yes. Go. And I’ll catch up to you.

00:39:20:04 –> 00:39:21:04
I’m gonna provide for the family.

00:39:21:17 –> 00:39:39:29
And anyway, went there, set. Thought I was gonna kill a bear real quick and easy days later, not days, but hours and hours later. Yeah. Yeah. Finally the last night. I’ve already, I’m already a day and a half late getting out. I, no, I just smoked a bear. I was like, that’s awesome.

00:39:40:02 –> 00:39:40:13
It was nine

00:39:40:13 –> 00:39:41:11
O’clock at night. I’m like,

00:39:41:11 –> 00:39:43:07
I’m done. Was it that ear tag sal that

00:39:43:08 –> 00:39:45:29
Was No, no. This iss a whole different bait station from that one. Oh, oh yeah.

00:39:45:29 –> 00:39:46:16
Yeah. You can have,

00:39:47:01 –> 00:39:48:18
It seems like it was a good boar, right? Yeah.

00:39:49:10 –> 00:39:51:24
No, it was, it was not. It was not the bore I was

00:39:51:24 –> 00:39:55:05
After. Jeff, you don’t have to, you don’t have to say be honest on this. This

00:39:55:05 –> 00:39:55:20
Is transparency.

00:39:55:27 –> 00:39:57:25
It was not, it was not the bear. I said, you’re

00:39:57:25 –> 00:39:59:05
Keeping it real like Dr. Phil.

00:39:59:10 –> 00:40:04:24
But I came up, I sat down and I’m like, I’m killing, I’m, I’m killing a bear. I’m not leaving here until he kill a bear.

00:40:04:26 –> 00:40:09:14
Well, you went without water and everything. You, you were so confident you’re gonna kill him within 30 minutes. Oh.

00:40:09:20 –> 00:40:12:05
I was like, I’m crushing this thing. I know exactly. I’m

00:40:12:05 –> 00:40:14:05
Camera, I the back to the truck by dark. I’ll

00:40:14:05 –> 00:40:14:10
Be back

00:40:14:20 –> 00:40:16:10
By noon. By noon because the bear was

00:40:16:10 –> 00:40:18:06
Coming in in the morning. So Jeff doesn’t take water or nothing. I

00:40:18:06 –> 00:40:18:16
Didn’t take water.

00:40:18:17 –> 00:40:20:11
Worst case scenario, you can eat part of the dog food.

00:40:20:15 –> 00:40:29:04
I’m like, I’m leaving at noon. I’m gonna kill this bear leave at noon. Get up there. You know, everything’s played out in my mind. This is how it’s gonna work. Nine o’clock that night, I’m still sitting there.

00:40:29:17 –> 00:40:31:01
Oh. 90 degrees.

00:40:31:26 –> 00:40:47:20
Oh. And, and I, I, it’s not like you can get up and move around. It’s in this thick trees. I got a little lane, 75 yards ish down this little lane to the paid station. I, I can’t move. Sun comes up. You’re still sitting there baking all day long baking.

00:40:48:17 –> 00:40:48:26
And you

00:40:48:26 –> 00:40:49:17
Can’t move, you can’t go

00:40:49:18 –> 00:40:52:16
Anywhere else. And he’s texting you, Hey, it’d be really nice to have some help with this baby diaper

00:40:52:19 –> 00:40:53:10
Didn’t have service.

00:40:53:28 –> 00:40:55:20
So how convenient

00:40:57:17 –> 00:40:59:23
Note to self always hunt where there’s no self service. Yeah.

00:41:00:02 –> 00:41:01:11
Yeah. Until now. These new

00:41:02:03 –> 00:41:02:19
In reaches

00:41:02:19 –> 00:41:04:20
System in reaches and whatnot. That’s a whole different

00:41:04:20 –> 00:41:05:19
Story. But anyway, keep going.

00:41:06:07 –> 00:41:17:07
I, I told myself I’m not leaving until I kill a bear. Well, I had a bear come in that was chasing on, there was a couple bears coming in. One bear was chasing everything else off. I’m like, you’re dead. Dumped him. I

00:41:17:07 –> 00:41:18:20
Was done, done. Big, big

00:41:18:20 –> 00:41:18:26
Old

00:41:18:26 –> 00:41:19:08
Bear bear though.

00:41:19:13 –> 00:41:21:12
It was a big olds, pretty pretty gal.

00:41:22:02 –> 00:41:33:25
I’ll tell you now. I have, I’m pretty comfortable by myself hunting by myself. I’m always hunting by myself. When you’re sitting there chopping up a bear at a bait station where the, and it’s,

00:41:33:25 –> 00:41:35:11
There’s pitch black now, you

00:41:35:11 –> 00:41:36:16
Know, there’s six other bears.

00:41:36:16 –> 00:41:37:23
This is transparency that

00:41:37:23 –> 00:41:40:00
Are hitting that bait station. Yeah.

00:41:40:18 –> 00:41:48:25
Ry. And they can smell that old broad’s carcass that you’re skinning right there. And I want, and you can hear the t I want eat her. You can hear

00:41:48:25 –> 00:41:51:25
The twigs breaking around you and you’re just

00:41:51:25 –> 00:41:52:01
Like

00:41:52:17 –> 00:41:52:22
Breeding.

00:41:54:20 –> 00:41:55:25
I gotta get outta here.

00:41:57:18 –> 00:42:02:22
That was a fast skin job. And, and did you use your new outdoor edge knife, by the way? Oh, crushed it. Did you? Oh

00:42:02:22 –> 00:42:02:29
Yeah.

00:42:03:17 –> 00:42:09:16
Speaking of which, we, we have partnered with Outdoor Edge. We’ve got some new Epic series knives. Course we got a whole office full of them. Did,

00:42:09:19 –> 00:42:12:11
But did you finish through on one knife, one blade Good.

00:42:12:11 –> 00:42:15:23
Yeah, I actually did. Awesome. I wasn’t gonna take time to stop and change blades.

00:42:17:07 –> 00:42:19:06
Didn’t want, didn’t wanna fumble the pack

00:42:19:06 –> 00:42:20:11
For something. Dude, I’m gonna, I’m gonna,

00:42:21:22 –> 00:42:22:13
You were scared. Chisels.

00:42:22:23 –> 00:42:24:05
I didn’t have a flashlight. What?

00:42:25:01 –> 00:42:25:14
How do you

00:42:25:17 –> 00:42:26:14
Skid a bear in the door?

00:42:26:26 –> 00:42:34:04
You were sitting there and the light, I took my headlamp off and I said I had it from the night before. I had it sitting on my dash and I’m like, I’m outta here by here. Oh,

00:42:34:08 –> 00:42:35:01
I’m not idiot. Oh my gosh.

00:42:35:14 –> 00:42:38:24
I’m an idiot, dude. I left it sitting there. I go out, this gets,

00:42:39:01 –> 00:42:39:22
I crushed and

00:42:39:27 –> 00:42:47:20
Crush sink. It’s dark. There’s sh breaking and luckily there was a decent moon and I was just chopping. I had that thing chopped up

00:42:47:20 –> 00:42:50:16
And back to the truck. You’ve got a surgical steel blade,

00:42:51:15 –> 00:42:51:24
Well,

00:42:51:27 –> 00:42:59:11
Razor sharp blade in the dark. Hurrying as branches and jaws are popping around. Have no idea. St spinning a bear idea I sounds safe.

00:43:00:03 –> 00:43:00:10
Get

00:43:00:21 –> 00:43:00:28
Or

00:43:00:28 –> 00:43:23:28
Bread. That podcast dude, that podcast with, with Whitaker. That that one you did with him. Oh yeah. About him cutting his leg. Yeah. That came to my mind. Yeah, dude, I, I sent, I was peeling off the hoof and I, or the, not the, the foot paw paw paw. I take it off and I’m like, oh man, that could have gone. I need to slow down a little bit.

00:43:24:24 –> 00:43:25:22
A I’m dehydrated.

00:43:25:27 –> 00:43:30:01
Yeah. I, and I get some b I was a little delirious. I’m bleached. I mean, I’ll be honest, I probably was.

00:43:30:05 –> 00:43:33:13
Wow. Well, alls well that ends Well that’s a cool story.

00:43:33:13 –> 00:43:35:08
Didn’t get show. That was the best thing about it is. Oh, she is. It went,

00:43:35:16 –> 00:43:36:26
She she went down right down.

00:43:37:19 –> 00:43:48:25
And I, I watched, you know, so many videos of people killing ’em and running off and they’re tracking. No, that, and I’m didn’t do that. Do have to be gone the next day, which means I’m going back to the truck, finding a headlight tracking blood all night until I find it. You know,

00:43:49:07 –> 00:43:55:25
So, so anybody that needs an outdoor edge or one of their awesome knives, they’ve got all kinds of stuff on their website. It’s just good to have it. Outdoor edge.com.

00:43:56:01 –> 00:43:57:19
It’s good to have a knife you can get ahold of. Oh

00:43:57:19 –> 00:44:01:05
Yeah. It, it’s a nice big Oh it is. Blades don’t, don’t break. Blades

00:44:01:10 –> 00:44:06:29
Don’t break. That’s the biggest thing. The avon’s kind of, you know, we all had ’em. We all had ’em. But no, still

00:44:06:29 –> 00:44:09:00
Have a few in my pack. But this, this outdoor edge got that.

00:44:09:00 –> 00:44:10:20
Sell ’em on eBay along with all those rifles,

00:44:11:00 –> 00:44:25:10
That top support piece of steel that goes out over the top that stops it from breaking. It’s not just a flimsy blade out. A great, we’re gonna be having a stay tuned, we’ll have a unique giveaway later this year. Give a bunch of those knives away. Give away, oh,

00:44:25:10 –> 00:44:25:18
What are,

00:44:25:19 –> 00:44:26:20
What are we giving away today? Did

00:44:26:20 –> 00:44:32:28
We ever just Oh, oh yeah. The Raiders. The Jeff take another drink of Ignite. And you’re the one that announced that earlier. Yes,

00:44:33:03 –> 00:44:54:08
We already did that. But let’s give away something else. Let’s give away something with mountain ops. We’re gonna send ’em a box of stuff Mountain Ops doesn’t know it yet, but they’re gonna do it. And if they don’t do it, we’ll make good on it. So anyway, hit us. We’re gonna do two giveaways. And the reason why had a good member call in and said, dude, I haven’t heard anything about these giveaways. I’m like, oh yeah, well we, that guys on the hip. And I forgot

00:44:54:08 –> 00:44:57:12
That guy’s on cloud nine right now. He’s like, I told them to do it. And

00:44:57:12 –> 00:44:58:20
They did it. They did it. Yeah. So

00:44:58:20 –> 00:45:07:18
Anyway, so let’s do this promo coats. We already did hunt 3 6 5 for the boots. So since this is night hunt 24 7. There you go. Just wired, you’re going

00:45:07:29 –> 00:45:30:25
Hunt 24 7. So hunt H U N T 2 4 7. Throw it in there in the promo code. We’re gonna give away a box of mountain ops stuff. And like I say, if we have to order it off their website, we’ll do it ourselves. But I’m pretty sure Casey will do it since he’s getting a lot of advertising for nothing. And so anyway, we’ll throw in some hats and maybe at least there’s

00:45:30:28 –> 00:45:32:25
Somebody we know and it’s a monster that we have.

00:45:33:13 –> 00:45:34:05
Tigers blood.

00:45:34:23 –> 00:45:37:23
Yeah. The owner of Monster could be a jerk. I have no idea. Oh, I’m

00:45:37:23 –> 00:45:39:05
Sure he is. Could be an anti hunter. We

00:45:39:05 –> 00:45:40:20
Don’t knows. They could be, in fact,

00:45:41:07 –> 00:45:41:24
Arrogant. Arrogant.

00:45:41:29 –> 00:45:52:08
Let’s send somebody to research that because we need to never say again. If that’s the case, I’m not saying I’ll quit drinking it, but just saying if it’s, if they’re anti hunting, we’re not gonna get under. I know. We need to,

00:45:52:15 –> 00:46:02:25
We always promote what works. So, and That’ss lit me up if it, if it wasn’t for Monster, I wouldn’t be able to even function today. Yeah, this truck cameras kicked my butt 30 in the morning. Well dude, he got

00:46:02:25 –> 00:46:03:23
Back in at four 30,

00:46:04:01 –> 00:46:05:00
But how hot was

00:46:05:23 –> 00:46:12:20
Out there? Well, it rain. Well, first thing, first camera, I’m on my four wheeler. It drenches me. I am soaked from head to toe. Wait, first

00:46:12:20 –> 00:46:14:14
Camera, it rain monsoon. Hit out

00:46:14:21 –> 00:46:20:26
Monsoon. Oh yeah. Like I’m like going up a canyon. I’m like this kid flash flood on my, this would be interesting.

00:46:20:27 –> 00:46:24:23
And I know you didn’t, I mean, you don’t take here when you’re scout, come on. When you’re, you’re in battle.

00:46:25:23 –> 00:46:31:06
No, no. And plus you’re like, I’m a tough guy. My weather’s through this thing. I’ve got sunglasses on pit dark.

00:46:31:07 –> 00:46:36:08
I’d welcome, I’d welcome a little shower to comb me off right now until one crush Snake get 70 degrees. Then

00:46:36:08 –> 00:46:51:26
In your all sudden you’re just to Mel off rattle your hypothermia. Oh, I see a rattlesnake last night. Those hazards of running cameras in the desert at night. It just is. So anyway, end up going to this camera, get all the way back to the truck, load up the bike, everything’s ready.

00:46:52:19 –> 00:46:53:23
And I put the, in your

00:46:53:23 –> 00:47:13:05
Lap laptop, sit down, put the cards in and the stupid freaking camera wasn’t taking night shots. And I’m like, oh my gosh. I had three cameras, two of them, one card was empty, I don’t know why. Threw that card away. And the other card had no night shots. It just had black, black, black, black. So I’m like, unload the bike, go all the way back up in there, put a new camera

00:47:13:05 –> 00:47:13:12
There,

00:47:13:12 –> 00:48:20:05
Put it, yeah, sure enough. It’s not even dark to it down by then. It’s dark. I Oh yeah. Took it out the box, put in the new one, everything’s going. I got red hitting me from three angles. I know it’s good. And I come back to the truck. By then, it’s another four hours. It feels like all the while I’m getting picking up some landowner tags for Epic. We buy, buy and sell landowner tags. And so picked up and visited with a few landowners that Adam had worked with along the way. Go to the next camera by the time I get home. Long story short, I only ran a few of ’em and it just crushed me. So anyway, I am on Monster and we did a phenomenal podcast, talk about a few of the tags, what it was, and like Adam said earlier, we’re not talking about, you know, all the tags we have necessarily just for saying we’re excited. A yeah, we are excited. But a lot of it is just getting everybody pumped up. There’s still tags out there for sale. There’s things that you can do. There’s over the counter hunts and, and we’re just doing what we say we do. We we’re out there doing it and, and part of it is we’re taking Fridays off to scout. Sometimes we’re taking Thursdays off. Who knows? Just because it’s that time of year, it’s slow. Everybody should be out scouting and or boating or whatever doing fun things.

00:48:20:19 –> 00:48:23:28
Golfing. Golfing. I’m gonna golf this afternoon. How’s that? Are you?

00:48:24:03 –> 00:48:24:10
Oh

00:48:24:10 –> 00:48:28:11
Yeah. Really? You bet. Foot’s better. And I’m backing. Yeah.

00:48:28:20 –> 00:48:30:04
What’d the doc say? Doc say you’re,

00:48:30:07 –> 00:48:31:26
He’s good. Yeah. He had, yeah,

00:48:31:29 –> 00:48:33:13
All those little pieces are back together.

00:48:33:29 –> 00:48:35:16
How does that happen in a month? Come on,

00:48:35:19 –> 00:48:36:11
There’s gaps.

00:48:36:25 –> 00:48:37:05
There’s,

00:48:37:09 –> 00:48:39:01
There’s, I’m not saying it’s, don’t

00:48:39:01 –> 00:48:40:14
Let your guide know. It’s not

00:48:40:15 –> 00:48:47:16
Been made hole. Just I haven’t told him, but it’s on me. I can’t do something that’s on me. You’ll be fine. I’ve got another 28 days, you’ll

00:48:47:16 –> 00:48:47:19
Be

00:48:47:19 –> 00:49:02:18
Fine. But we’re excited for that and excited for what’s coming up. If you do still want to give us a call, 4 3 5 2 6 7 or 2 6 3 0 7 7 7. There are a few opportunities left out there. Yeah, we

00:49:02:18 –> 00:49:03:23
Still do have some, I got some hunts,

00:49:03:23 –> 00:50:00:10
I’ve had some stuff. Jeff does have hunts. We get, we even buy some, it’s getting to the time of year where yeah, oddly people, maybe they break their big toe and can’t go on hunt. And so they’re calling the outfitters calling saying, Hey, I got a problem. And whether it’s a sheep, it’s a deer and elk. Some of those even happened in September and October, three weeks before some deer and elk happen. Guy had to back out, stay in touch with us. If you, if you can do that, there is gonna be, there’s things in Colorado, like the leftover list that’s gonna be starting to come available and turn back tag list August 14th and on. And just keep an eye on that. There’s over the counter elk tags there, over the counter elk tags still left in parts of Idaho as well as general season deer tags in Idaho. Really? Not a whole lot over the counter Arizona of state tags or over the counter archery deer in Arizona that you can hunt in August, September or December, January. So there’s stuff out there if you’re left out, left out and without anything and you want something, but

00:50:00:17 –> 00:50:03:05
Call us like Adam said and we’ll help you spend your money.

00:50:04:11 –> 00:50:10:17
Yeah, I mean, truth be told, hunting can be expensive. Feeding bears can be expensive.

00:50:11:25 –> 00:50:11:28
Breaking

00:50:11:28 –> 00:50:13:04
Big tags are

00:50:13:04 –> 00:50:18:02
Expensive. Breaking big toasts and getting tags for kids is expensive. So, but well worth it. So

00:50:18:07 –> 00:50:32:29
The opportunity is out there. It’s just, it’s just a matter of if a guy really, there’s no excuse for a guy that sits back and says, oh, I can’t get a tag again. No, you can. Yeah, you can. There’s a hunt that you can go out and chase 160 inch plus deer or better and

00:50:33:08 –> 00:50:40:20
Well, and some of the, some of the hunts, Jason and I made you two, Jeff. I mean, you’ve got bucks in your office and we’ve got bucks at our walls. We

00:50:40:24 –> 00:50:41:24
Made that 200 inches that he was,

00:50:42:13 –> 00:51:03:10
That are on stuff that, that took either zero points or like one point to draw some of our, our tags. There we’re, we, you have to make something out of seemingly nothing sometimes. Yeah. And you don’t always draw Henry Mountains and strip and 2 41 deer tags in Nevada that nobody can make a living doing that unless you’re an ability to buy a tags like that, which well’s, very few people are

00:51:03:21 –> 00:51:19:29
One of the main points to our magazine. I mean, we have, you, you, you can dig through our magazine, you can find hunts that you guys are putting in there like areas, units and whatnot. You guys are putting in there. And I look at it and I’m like, I wanna do that and I wanna do that. And I got the points to do that. Well, and I got the points to do that. And I

00:51:19:29 –> 00:51:46:04
Just wish you guys that are listening could be on the other end of the line. Yesterday I talked to a guy, him and his wife drew two of the four non-resident tags for 22 fourth deer in Colorado. Oh, I mean, our members are drawn tags like it’s their job. It’s unbelievable. That is. And so, I mean, we’re literally, and so when you get that, when you get that reinforcement that a, they do give non-resident attacks. Okay. Yes. It’s, it’s not, it’s not just

00:51:46:04 –> 00:51:53:02
Happen a statistic that is not a one and 1,150, right? There is a, the one is a live beating heartbeat

00:51:53:02 –> 00:52:37:13
Person and we talked to that guy. Yeah. And it’s pretty, pretty impressive some. So our members, you guys, you know, are drawn tags and, and we get to, you know, get to visit with guys, help you out with some member draws, people that have drawn it in the past help you with an outfit or whatever. So feel free to call us a little plug for our business. If you aren’t a member of Epic Outdoors become one, it’s epic outdoors.com. Get on there. It’s a hundred bucks a year. And with that you can talk to Adam or I or Jeff or whoever you want in our office and we can help you out with some of your draw strategies, finding Hunts, whatever. Plus you’ll get a monthly magazine December through June and then bimonthly the remaining part of the year. It’s nine issues a year. And there’s just a lot of good benefits that come from paying a hundred bucks, which is basically take a gas. So

00:52:37:13 –> 00:52:38:05
That’s right. Hell yeah.

00:52:38:26 –> 00:53:35:06
Also, I think on one or two podcasts ago we threw out a solicitation from you all for podcast question q and a type stuff. Email those to Chris, c h i [email protected]. Get a lot of great feedback. We did a podcast a while back, it was just q and a from our listeners. Hey, you know, dear scouting options. Hey, when do a deer move? When do you give up on him? Blah, blah, blah. Anything, you know, if you got a out question, dear question, gear question, whatever, we’ll do our best to tackle that on the podcast here, maybe in the next week or two. So, email any ideas or questions, specific questions you have, not just an idea, although we take those two, we have to sometimes contact guests and things like that to set those up. But if it’s just a q and a, we can sit down this time of year and, and, and hammer a couple of those out a week. So Chris, c h r i [email protected]. Email that to him and we’ll maybe we’ll answer your question on the podcast and go into depth on it.

We do wanna throw a little shout out to Kent’s optics. David and Jeff Harrell. Good dudes, good friends of ours. They make our members good deals. They have great prices. The best of anywhere I’ve seen, been out in the field and ordered up buying Thoses and had ’em sitting in my house in one day. So anyway, these guys are awesome. They’re hunters themselves and, and they appreciate your business. That’s one thing I do like about ’em as well as they have a huge variety in stock. They have an, an incredible supply of optics in their back room and, and have I’d imagine anything you need. So whether it be Vortex or night four, whatever you want to use, they’ll have it. So anyway, give these guys a call. It’s 4 3 5 2 5 7 7 0 1 4. Tell ’em Jason and Adam sent you. I’m sure they’ll make you a screaming deal. You can also go to kens optics.com and let’s go back to work.
