How to Optimize Your Hunting Season. In this episode we talk about making the most of your fall by looking ahead. The draws are almost all out and we are getting a good idea of what our hunting season may look like for 2020. If we don’t have all the hunts wed like, there are still many options. By planning ahead we can even help make a marginal hunting opportunity a success. In this episode we also have a guest appearance from ShedCrazy, Jed Larkin of Under Armour and some words of wisdom from Jana Carter.

00:00:02:16 –> 00:00:06:26
I think we need to talk about a little bit like the, kind of the planning and prep, mostly

00:00:06:26 –> 00:00:09:10
Thinking and planning, actually. I think it’s all thinking and planning.

00:00:09:16 –> 00:00:12:14
Preseason scouting is gonna familiarize yourself with a unit.

00:00:13:02 –> 00:00:14:11
Anything to do with Western Big Game.

00:00:17:20 –> 00:00:18:05
Welcome

00:00:18:05 –> 00:00:21:09
To the Epic Outdoors Podcast, powered by Under Armour.

00:00:21:25 –> 00:00:33:26
Hey everybody. Jason Carter. Adam Bronson even got John Peterson in the house today, along with Chris Peterson at the keyboard. John, what are you doing here? Hey, we’ve got an exciting announcement. I’m just here to make sure you get the details right.

00:00:33:28 –> 00:00:36:05
Exactly why we don’t wanna screw it up.

00:00:36:17 –> 00:01:05:00
That’s right. All right. All right. As we get started here, we wanna thank Under Armour for sponsoring this podcast, working with us here at Epic Outdoors and sponsoring about everything we do. They are the title sponsor, if you wanna call it, powered by Under Armour. I’m not as deep a voice as Chris when he does that. He does a good job at it. Good job, Chris. All right. As we get started, we do wanna talk about Under Armour for a minute, other than just a, a mention at the front. Bronson, kick it off.

00:01:05:22 –> 00:01:07:14
I thought that’s what John was here for. Oh,

00:01:07:17 –> 00:01:35:09
John. No, I’m here to police if you guys do it right. Well, we do. Who knows what’s gonna be said, said no, we, we’ve got a pretty awesome deal. Not very often. You get 40% off somewhere and we’ve got some codes for podcast listeners for 40% off UA gear. You’ve gotta buy [email protected] and they’re for a onetime use up to $2,000. So load

00:01:35:09 –> 00:01:39:17
Your card up up to two K, load your card up, 40% off. Take 40% off and

00:01:39:17 –> 00:01:52:18
Check out. It just screams gimmick to me. Yeah, I’m just telling you, there is no gimmicks there. There’s no gimmick. It’s, they expire at the end of June. Yeah, two grand. You go on their website, you plug them, play and buy some. So I guess if, if there’s a catch, you’ve gotta use them now by

00:01:52:24 –> 00:01:52:27
June.

00:01:53:18 –> 00:02:17:10
By June 30th, end of June. Yeah. So you got a month. I, but once you get that code, it’s yours until you use it. So, right. So how do you get the code, John? You go to our website, epic outdoors.com. Right underneath the, the header at the top, you’ll see a button and it, it’ll say get your code. You go there, you just put in your, your name and, and there’s one per household. So put in your address. Email

00:02:17:10 –> 00:02:23:14
Can’t load up on these. And yeah, sell ’em on the black market at 20% off deal. If you can’t do any of that one per household,

00:02:24:03 –> 00:02:27:04
I guess you could. I’ll take cash. You’re

00:02:27:04 –> 00:02:28:09
Gonna, you’re gonna be tracked.

00:02:29:28 –> 00:02:46:04
Sell ’em on eBay. No. So don’t do that. You also need a code. And to get the code, you have to listen to this podcast. At least to this point. Yeah. At some point. Are you gonna tell ’em the code right now? Yeah. What’s the code Is Epic UA team all one word? No spaces? No.

00:02:46:04 –> 00:02:49:06
Hashtag Like the hashtag. But it’s the hashtag without the hashtag.

00:02:49:18 –> 00:02:52:20
Yeah. Yeah. That sounded, that

00:02:52:20 –> 00:02:53:04
Sounded very

00:02:53:04 –> 00:03:24:12
Simple. So this code, you’re gonna go to epic outdoors.com. There’s gonna be a place on there button. Button, right button that you’re working on right now. Yep. You are gonna push a button, push a button, and then there’s gonna be a code. You type in the code, and then it’s gonna ask you all kinds of personal information, social security number, date of birth, things like that. Right? No, no, no, no, no. See, this is why I’m here. Very simple. All right. What name? Just name, address. Address, email address. Yeah. And it will immediately give you your code. Wow. If you, and if you put that in there, you’ll get the discount code. Hard to

00:03:24:12 –> 00:03:27:08
Believe. Promo code. Epic UA team.

00:03:27:19 –> 00:03:42:14
That’s what you need to know. Epic UA team. And we’d love it if you give us a shout out on social media, use that hashtag as well. Epic Uua team. That’d be awesome. Get the code, go on there and give it to your wife and tell her for Father’s Day. You want a bunch of, wow,

00:03:42:14 –> 00:03:46:19
That’s a great idea. Yeah. It’s coming up in June here. Hey, it’s

00:03:46:22 –> 00:03:57:04
Idea’s. The best day of the year. It’s the best, it’s the most underrated holiday there is. There’s no question about that. Under celebrated. Under celebrated. 100% under, we

00:03:57:04 –> 00:03:59:01
Need to get Jan in here quick. No,

00:03:59:06 –> 00:04:06:25
She’s, she’s gonna edit this thing. We’ll see if it makes it, I mean, mother’s Day, you gotta have like a freaking, you know, celebration. Careful

00:04:07:09 –> 00:04:08:08
Josh. Careful John.

00:04:08:15 –> 00:04:11:06
You gotta make breakfast. And it’s, you gotta give gifts.

00:04:11:09 –> 00:04:13:04
You’re treading on tonight. If they say, I’m

00:04:13:04 –> 00:04:36:11
Just telling you, if they say I don’t need gifts this year, I’m de That’s a lie. They’re full of crap. That’s a lie. Yeah. ’cause afterwards you pay, they need gifts. They just tips for you. Young, young out there. Diamond diamonds and cash. Diamonds and cash. Get it. And then I got the double whammy because I married a French girl and French mother’s day’s. Not on the same day. Come on. No. Does she wanna celebrate both days? Absolutely. Who wouldn’t?

00:04:36:26 –> 00:04:37:23
When is it in France?

00:04:37:27 –> 00:04:44:16
France. So it, it changes. It’s usually the last weekend in May. Depends on how the women feel. Country. So it’s like

00:04:44:16 –> 00:04:49:04
Two, two weekends in May. She gets the middle one and then another one a week or two later. Yeah.

00:04:49:11 –> 00:04:57:23
And it depends on the year, right? So whenever the bulk of the women feel good or bad, it’s, they need June 7th or something, but it’s right around there. But it’s never the exact same

00:04:57:23 –> 00:05:05:02
Day, does it? Okay, here’s a question. Does, does the France Mother’s Day ever line up with American Father’s Day? ’cause you’re screwed if that

00:05:05:16 –> 00:05:07:11
No, I am screwed if that happens, but no, it doesn’t.

00:05:07:13 –> 00:05:13:00
Can you imagine? I don’t. Mother’s Day lights up at the American Father’s Day. John, sorry, John

00:05:13:22 –> 00:05:14:28
One holiday trumps the other.

00:05:15:13 –> 00:05:16:13
Well, we all know that

00:05:17:26 –> 00:05:25:24
They deserve, they deserve it. They deserve all the accolades. This is true. They do deserve it. But I’m just saying there’s a little inequity there. No

00:05:27:13 –> 00:05:28:20
Moving right along. Yeah,

00:05:28:27 –> 00:05:38:04
I’m not even gonna go there. All right, John. So we, we got an epic uua team. Go to epic outdoors.com. The code is Epic Uua team. You’re gonna get 48% off. There

00:05:38:04 –> 00:05:39:13
Is a cap on these. There

00:05:39:13 –> 00:05:40:25
Is a cap. It’s a heavy cap though.

00:05:41:08 –> 00:05:50:13
But when they’re gone, they’re gone. We can’t make print more. They’re, they’re done. They’re injected in the, in the, yep. So while supplies last of the website while they’re last. That’s

00:05:50:13 –> 00:05:56:10
Right. If you listen to this near the time it comes out and you go on, you’ll likely get one if you wait a day,

00:05:56:17 –> 00:05:59:12
Weeks or so. Might not. Maybe not. Yep. Yeah, that’s right.

00:05:59:16 –> 00:06:00:06
So anyway,

00:06:00:09 –> 00:06:05:26
Get ’em great ideas. All right. Moving on. What else are we gonna talk about? That’s awesome. Awesome giveaway though. It is. Glad

00:06:05:26 –> 00:06:06:00
To do that.

00:06:06:00 –> 00:06:06:11
Pretty

00:06:06:11 –> 00:06:13:11
Partner. It’s awesome, man. It’s, it’s a great time of year, Bronson. There’s a lot of tags coming out. People are gearing up and wanting to, you know, training,

00:06:13:13 –> 00:06:13:22
Fill

00:06:13:22 –> 00:06:15:08
Their closets full of camel

00:06:15:16 –> 00:06:21:04
And at that camel and or training gear trying to work. Get ready for your hunts. That’s right. Physically,

00:06:21:14 –> 00:06:23:16
Golf shoes. Oh, good

00:06:23:24 –> 00:06:24:05
Point.

00:06:25:23 –> 00:06:40:28
I need another set. You’re a golfer. Yeah, you were speaking of, ah, worst. This first guy I’ve ever known that’s out shopping for golf carts. Bronson, huh? I I, but again, hey, again, we don’t know a lot of guys that live on golf courses.

00:06:40:28 –> 00:06:49:18
I’ve, I’ve done, I’ve done some, I’ve done the math and it’s gonna pencil out. I paid I my time is, I, I I do you have to, to,

00:06:49:23 –> 00:06:50:25
Is there a special plugins?

00:06:51:12 –> 00:06:52:26
They all come with the chargers. No

00:06:52:26 –> 00:07:00:25
Side byside on the golf course? No, you can one 10 can’t. One 10. Like you plug it into the wall. You don’t need an electrician. Come get you a golf cart charger. Like say a Tesla.

00:07:01:27 –> 00:07:02:20
No, no.

00:07:02:20 –> 00:07:02:29
Just

00:07:03:04 –> 00:07:05:04
Charging your batteries. But yeah, use it and plug it in.

00:07:05:04 –> 00:07:10:20
You could even where you live on the golf cart is, you could even charge, you know, if other people wanted to charge their golf cart, you could,

00:07:10:29 –> 00:07:11:23
Lots of people provide,

00:07:11:23 –> 00:07:12:10
Provide that service.

00:07:12:21 –> 00:07:16:06
No, I’m not gonna, no, I’m not gonna be like, Walmart has the,

00:07:16:18 –> 00:07:24:26
Somebody runs out Battery bros there, station bros out there with a jumper battery trying to limp ’em off the golf cart. I mean, there’s services he could provide by living in that location.

00:07:25:16 –> 00:07:37:04
No, I just let the golf and because of time constraints, I tend to golf with a cart because you get done faster. You fly around, you golf and your dog onto the

00:07:37:04 –> 00:07:41:01
Next thing. And we’re get older, bro. And you and I are getting older. Like just let’s, let’s admit it. Well,

00:07:41:03 –> 00:07:47:20
It’s mainly the time. So we’re finding ourselves. I like to go, go and do and get back to whatever else I’m doing. And the

00:07:47:20 –> 00:07:55:29
Ball joints in my truck needed to be replaced. I didn’t do ’em. I’m old. I’m old now. I’m, I don’t wanna do ’em. I don’t, I didn’t do when I was young.

00:07:57:28 –> 00:08:08:04
I didn’t. So anyway. But yeah, lot lots to use those cards on, whether it’s camo training, gear, shoes to train in. It’s that time of year. The ideal

00:08:08:04 –> 00:08:08:22
Thing is to

00:08:08:22 –> 00:08:10:06
Use, get your legs hard for the hunts

00:08:10:13 –> 00:08:12:28
For camel. That’s what they’re designed for. So anyway,

00:08:13:05 –> 00:08:13:16
Boots,

00:08:14:03 –> 00:08:42:23
If you do wanna see the, if you want to narrow it down to hunting, then you can go to, what is it? Ua hunt.com. Yeah. Pull it out for you. Just type in a key word of a baron or ridge reaper or whatever. And up comes all this hunting gear. It’s gonna be awesome. So, and tho and as time goes on, more and more gear will be available and things change. That’s a, that’s a.com. That doesn’t mean that’s everything that they have available. That’s just on.com. There’s obviously stuff at Sportsman’s warehouses and other places where these codes are not valid.

00:08:42:28 –> 00:08:46:04
Not valid. That’s keeping, but this is only valid on their website.

00:08:46:16 –> 00:08:52:19
But, but if you don’t see what you like go on in two weeks, you probably see what you like. You know what I’m saying? So, all right. Enough.

00:08:52:19 –> 00:08:55:24
But you do have till June 30th is as long as you can wait to use them. Epic

00:08:56:01 –> 00:09:05:16
Useem Q eight team. You can get codes only here. It’s the only place they’re available on epic outdoors.com. All right. Anything else, John? That’s it, man. All right. Go, go do good things.

00:09:06:10 –> 00:09:07:19
Get that, get that link work.

00:09:07:27 –> 00:09:12:11
Get outta here. I don’t, I don’t like a guy looking over our shoulder and making sure we’re doing right. Well,

00:09:12:15 –> 00:09:16:16
You were talking about socials and date of birth and blood type and John had to step in and

00:09:16:16 –> 00:09:21:12
Stay. I know. And I’m glad he was here. Thank you for that. But that’s enough. Okay. Alright. Where are we at? What

00:09:21:12 –> 00:09:39:24
Draws are still open? Let’s go through the short list. It’s getting shorter by the day. Well, it feels like, as far, as far as what’s still open, we got a deadline coming up on Monday, June 1st. That’s for the non-resident deer and antelope. Which, which is as well as resident elk, deer and antelope. I believe that’s for Wyoming residents.

00:09:39:24 –> 00:09:40:16
That’s right. All three.

00:09:40:16 –> 00:09:45:20
That’s right. But that’s coming up on the first. What do we got the next day? What do we got? California, June 2nd, dude.

00:09:45:25 –> 00:09:47:01
Yeah, we’re gonna have Iowa

00:09:47:25 –> 00:09:51:10
The 7th of June. We got Idaho, deer, elk, and antelope

00:09:51:17 –> 00:09:53:28
June 5th. And then we’ve got Arizona June 9th.

00:09:54:01 –> 00:09:56:25
Yeah. So we’re, but that’s, then you’re done. Then

00:09:56:25 –> 00:10:00:22
You’re done. Those are from memory. Bronson. Hey, by the way, disclaimer, those are from memory. If we

00:10:00:27 –> 00:10:02:28
Have no cheat sheets in here, but I’m pretty sure they’re right.

00:10:04:03 –> 00:10:08:22
But they’re a hundred percent right. But if we blew it, we’re not liable. Huh? That’s right. All

00:10:08:28 –> 00:10:15:04
Right. 2020. If you listen to this in 2021, those dates were only pertinent to the 2020 calendar.

00:10:15:04 –> 00:10:18:02
That’s right. Podcasts live forever. But the dates aren’t always right. They do. Is

00:10:18:02 –> 00:10:23:16
That what you’re saying? Well, we’ve had people call us think about it, and they’ve pulled up last year’s magazine and I don’t know, this

00:10:23:16 –> 00:10:28:16
Isn’t right and I missed the deadline. Y’all owe me a point. Okay, we’ll pull a string.

00:10:28:29 –> 00:10:34:25
Speaking of a point, speaking of an Arizona issue, let’s talk about that right now. The hunting license issue. Yeah.

00:10:35:08 –> 00:10:37:12
You could apply with not having a valid hunting license.

00:10:37:17 –> 00:10:43:00
It it does not. Red flag warn you. It pulls in a license number. Do you think you’re good, right? Yeah. No,

00:10:43:00 –> 00:10:43:22
That’s an old license.

00:10:44:04 –> 00:10:55:00
It could be an old license number. Could it could be expiring even from the time when you applied and the time you, the deadline. You have to have a valid license on June 9th,

00:10:55:13 –> 00:10:56:20
The deadline day. That’s

00:10:56:20 –> 00:11:22:19
Right. It has to be valid then whether you bought one in February and it’s still valid, whether you bought one last June 10th and it’s valid till June 9th this year, you’re good. But don’t be fooled thinking you’re gonna get a two for one if it just let you apply online. It’s a, it’s a two step process there. You have to go buy a hunting license, save the number, and, and have that valid by June 9th. On June 9th. Alright. And

00:11:22:19 –> 00:11:28:19
You can do it now. You can do it now. And plug the date in. That’s what I did with my kid. I went on. Okay, he’s gonna turn

00:11:28:23 –> 00:11:30:26
18. You go and or go apply ’em all right now. That’s

00:11:30:26 –> 00:11:51:11
Right. You can go apply ’em right now. And, and he’s gonna turn 18 June 12th. And I could go get him a license on June nine, or I could do it now and just call it valid on June nine. He’s good for a full year until June 8th next year. That’s right. And so anyway, as a youth, so little nuance there. Get the youth price five freaking dollars. Yeah.

00:11:51:11 –> 00:12:08:08
And if you’ve applied already and you’re not sure, you’re like, oh, it didn’t make me buy one. I guess I’m in. You need to go to their online license lookup, purchase reprint option. And and if it pulls it up, it’ll show you when your license is gonna expire. If it doesn’t pull you up, Jason, what does that mean? Your license is expired.

00:12:08:24 –> 00:12:10:07
Yeah. And you can Yes, that’s right. And

00:12:10:07 –> 00:12:11:05
You need to go buy it. That’s right.

00:12:11:11 –> 00:12:25:17
That’s right. Or you can go pull it up. And like you said, like you said, it gives you that old number, the dates you can just verify, see it for yourself. And if you have 14 kids like we do Bronson, you gotta go look ’em all up. And I look ’em up June 8th, June 9th, June 2nd. We, I’m stressed. You

00:12:25:17 –> 00:12:43:00
Go. I try to looking up my family out. They, they’re not pulling ’em up. And the reason it’s not pulling you up is they have expired. There is nothing to reprint because they don’t have a valid license, which means you’ve got to buy one and start that. I just do the starting date June 9th, 2020 goes till next year. June 8th, 2021, I believe.

00:12:43:01 –> 00:13:00:12
That’s right. And there’s a lot of guys, like we’ve, we’ve beat it already to death. I don’t want keep talking about, but there’s a lot of guys that, that, that are gonna come due on the ninth or the 10th or whatever. ’cause they did it last year. They did it during the antelope belt application period. Whatever. You’re all good, clean, no big deal.

00:13:00:12 –> 00:13:02:26
Just make sure, look it up, make sure it’s valid, that’s all we’re saying. And

00:13:02:26 –> 00:13:15:19
Then look it up again and again and again, because that’s what we do. Alright, so one deadline we did miss, and it’s a very important deadline. Montana antelope. It’s Juju one. I just don’t want anybody out there saying that we don’t care about antelope or that we don’t care about Montana.

00:13:15:19 –> 00:13:22:28
Well, you’ve said that many times this year that you care about ’em. So we’re not, I’m, I’m glad I’m, I’m not even surprised that you found that tidbit to throw out to everybody.

00:13:23:14 –> 00:13:27:13
I just don’t wanna be called out. That’s all. People call us out all the time. So

00:13:27:23 –> 00:13:57:10
Speaking of next week, June 1st through the fifth, we’re gonna have draw results in Colorado for deer, elk, antelope, bear, moose, moose. Did I forget anything? No. And, and, and they’re gonna be different days. They just kind of get ’em done when they get ’em done and trickle a species out and the next day it’s another one. It’s kind of a weird, you can’t just say Colorado results are out and go check them every day. We usually wait till Thursday, Friday to email the world. Because if you te email ’em about

00:13:57:28 –> 00:14:01:19
One result, then they’re, I don’t see my results for antelope. Did you, did

00:14:01:19 –> 00:14:03:02
You forget us to apply for? No,

00:14:03:02 –> 00:14:18:25
They’re coming out in stages. Who knows why they do it. They’re Democrats. I don’t know why they do what they do. What am I wrong? Tell me I’m wrong. Okay. Some of them are, some of ’em are. Disclaimer, some of ’em are. Alright, let’s, let’s move on. Where are we? Where are we at?

00:14:19:11 –> 00:14:30:13
That’s it. We covered the drawers that are still open. Okay. Cross. But there’s a lot of draws that are starting to come or they’re coming out. And so that’s been on our front burner pretty heavy for the last week or two. Two it feels

00:14:30:13 –> 00:14:51:16
Like. Well, another really exciting thing is there’s some big credits on our credit cards, Bronson from like, say Wyoming Elk. Yeah, my wife didn’t draw. I didn’t draw. Happy day. Okay. Sad that we don’t have tags. Happy day. Yeah, we got a credit on our card. Yeah. I wanna spend it somewhere. You might consider our membership drive might consider a raffle in a state, whatever.

00:14:51:16 –> 00:15:15:23
Or, or add in one of these other states that we just talked about. The Idaho deer, elk, antelope. If you didn’t apply for sheep, moose or goat, that may be something you add the, the Wyoming deer and antelope. Maybe that’s something you add if you don’t have a tag. A lot of options. Then there are also, as you start to get in about another month from now, you got some over the counter options. Whether you’re gonna consider Idaho elk and deer, Colorado elk. That’s about it.

00:15:17:02 –> 00:15:19:01
Arizona Orchard deer. I mean, I don’t know.

00:15:19:05 –> 00:15:20:14
Those are later on. There’s

00:15:20:14 –> 00:15:21:13
Some things out there. But

00:15:21:23 –> 00:15:27:04
Utah, Utah, general Elk. I forgot. Hey, we live in Utah. I can’t believe I forgot that one. Yeah, Utah. Jim,

00:15:27:14 –> 00:15:31:02
You apply, apply for the antlers. Anybody that has antlers questions, call Adam here in our office

00:15:31:08 –> 00:15:31:22
It’s no,

00:15:33:04 –> 00:15:33:26
No news.

00:15:34:11 –> 00:15:39:14
We take a few of those and that’s fine. It’s just, you know, when you need elk meat you put in for of ’em. If you don’t, we don’t.

00:15:39:14 –> 00:16:23:12
In a covid, in a covid environment, drop a bomb on a mom. Alright, let’s, where are we at now? I don’t know. Let’s talk about something fun. Well, you know what, we have had some consulting calls where guys have drawn tags and that’s exciting. And some of these guys, I think we need to talk about a little bit like the kind of the planning and prep. And, and I had a guy today call about deer, Nevada, drew a muzzle tag. And, and we were talking about it and I’ve spent the tune of 72 hours in a particular unit and, and we killed a deer with my son and whatnot. And it was great. But you know, as you go into a unit sometimes, you know, you, you kind of get out of it what you put into it at times, especially on a muzz or hunt or archery hunt in Nevada, it’s early season during, in a summer pattern

00:16:23:14 –> 00:16:24:12
Scouting is

00:16:24:15 –> 00:16:48:14
Key. Scouting’s imperative. Yeah. Right. Spent a ton of time. You know, he is also indicated, they spent a lot of time in a unit. There was a rifle season in October and there’s a lot of thick trees in that unit. There was a little heavy water, as you remember, late season, late later in the year. And it spread the deer out and whatnot. And that scouting wasn’t as productive No. For that particular season. Yeah. Certain

00:16:48:19 –> 00:17:26:07
Tags, and you might even look at that. Like, I talked to somebody today that had a muzzle order, Utah elk hunt. If you’ve read a bunch of tro cramers, which you’re gonna do, it’s fun to do and all that. But everything changes mid-September on these Utah elk units and a lot of elk units. Finding your bull and hunting your bull late September, early October. Wow. That’s, that’s a lot to ask. So preseason scouting is gonna familiarize yourself with a unit where elk are maybe, where large groups of cows and calves are hanging. Finding one bull and killing one bull is sometimes toughly July August, jumping to late

00:17:26:14 –> 00:17:35:14
September. Ry season though, like archery season. Like they start, they’re coming in, they’re wallowing, they’re, it’s just, it’s a great time of year. Right? Yep. So, and just scout a ton. Run cameras a ton. Yeah.

00:17:35:15 –> 00:17:54:14
So our approach and, and our maybe way we consult people is totally contingent upon tags. Different tags, season archery, elk. Even August 15th, if I had a Utah elk tag this year, Scott, you’re good. Tough. I would be there. I’d take the first week off of the season. I, I would, I’d take the whole week and maybe two weeks

00:17:54:14 –> 00:17:56:05
Start heavy scouting June 1st.

00:17:56:08 –> 00:17:56:29
Yes, I would. Those

00:17:57:00 –> 00:17:58:12
Bulls are built. Bulls are built early.

00:17:58:12 –> 00:18:05:00
You’re hunting them like a mule deer for that first week to 10 days before they really start walling the end of August. They,

00:18:06:14 –> 00:18:15:12
They start roaming, they start to walk. And when they start walking luck, that’s a really tough timeframe to kill ’em. Good luck. And then at the very end they start to rutt. Yeah. So, so you’re back in the

00:18:15:12 –> 00:18:23:14
Game. Very maybe unconventional. Most, a lot of people say, oh, I’m just gonna hunt the last 10 days. Well, if you want to try to catch some bugling, things like that, that’s true. But,

00:18:23:14 –> 00:18:30:10
But it’s anybody’s game, you know, the rutt is soft, hard, early, late. Yep. Moon, there’s so much involved. Yep.

00:18:30:19 –> 00:19:23:26
So, you know, and the same thing with deer and elk. A deer, like you said, muzzle o and archery scouting sometimes doesn’t matter. That’s why we’ve talked about Colorado over and over and over, how we like to hunt mule deer in a few different states. We generally treat Colorado as the November just show up and hunt state for us, because you’re not gonna prec scout a a buck in, in Colorado to go there and hunt in November. We’re, we’re not. Scouting is gonna learn little other than learning roads. And we end up usually just going two to three days earlier, learning the roads then and maybe seeing, seeing deer two to three days before you’re hunt, you can start hunting again. So totally contingent upon the tag that you draw. But a lot of planning start to go on. We’ve got some resources here at Epic Outdoors, our Epic member experience database, which is a database of members that have said, Hey, I’m willing to talk to other guys that draw a tag in Unit X or Y If you draw that tag, feel free to give my number out to members and we can do that.

00:19:23:27 –> 00:19:39:14
So if you’re a member of Epic Outdoors, you’ve drawn a tag, you’re more of a self-guided guy, call us and we’ll give you, we’ll send you a list of that in in return. You’ll go on that list to maybe consult with people in the future if you need guides or outfitters, Jason. I mean we can help ’em out there too.

00:19:39:16 –> 00:20:32:01
Oh yeah. We worked with guys for years and years. Totally help you out. And it’s not okay, we all don’t need to be guided, but there’s times when guys that don’t need to be guided, hire a guide and that’s for the local knowledge. You get these tags once in a while. There’s a Bronson, you talk to a guy that drew a desert tag in the toughest unit in the state of Utah. Maybe the toughest, some of the toughest country. It definitely has some of the toughest country in the lower 48. I mean other than maybe Frank Church or something. It’s very, very similar to the severity of what that hunt can dish out and just know, you know, a a, a, those are, that’s what good consultants are for, is to help you prep on is this hunt a good fit for you? You know, if in the event you do draw it and then b, what do you do after it, after you got the tag in your hand? How are you gonna make good on that tag once in a lifetime tag?

00:20:32:08 –> 00:20:45:24
Well, in some of these, even the elk, some of these elk guys we’ve talked to, they end up telling you what tag they drew and the reasons why they pick it is just because, hey, I, I had enough points to draw this and, and I thought I’d put ’em for it. And, and then they’re like, and

00:20:45:24 –> 00:20:47:12
It may have worked and it may be good

00:20:48:01 –> 00:20:48:22
You got a tag,

00:20:48:27 –> 00:20:51:12
But make sure you to make good on what you got.

00:20:51:13 –> 00:21:18:12
Yeah. Make sure you’ve got either time, resources, body physically gear, which when you start talking to some of these sheep hunts or even some deer hunts or, or things like that around the west, they’re, they’re, they’re not all created equal. Sometimes it’s too late. You’ve already drawn the tag. Utah, you’re not gonna get a point for this year if you turn your tag back anymore. You got 30 days before your hunt to do it. Just like Colorado. You’re gonna get, get back your points that you had going into the draw but

00:21:18:12 –> 00:21:19:17
Not gonna gain that point. It’s gonna

00:21:19:17 –> 00:21:42:23
Sting. And so hopefully they were really big about that in Utah when you applied it was plastered all over when you applied people. But there’s some of these that I think people, I, I’ve had a couple of sheet punters that drew tag by accident thought that they applied somewhere else and didn’t, you’re gonna have to, you got some real, real decisions on your hands. Well, you know, and maybe that’s a situation where you go guided

00:21:42:26 –> 00:21:49:23
You, you lose a point, you lose 10 years, 20 years in some cases. I mean, a point a point in Wyoming for sheep is

00:21:50:01 –> 00:21:54:11
Monumental. Oh yeah. If you’re on the bubble right now and you fill another sheep point off you

00:21:54:15 –> 00:22:16:08
Just things like that. The points are valuable. So, and, and then also to get started, you should a go to go to our website, iPic outdoors.com. We have the way to purchase maps. You can purchase unit specific maps. I love that. They’re one to 100,000. Basically the same format is like a normal B l m map. Go on to our website by the map. And it’s one piece of paper. Yeah. With

00:22:16:08 –> 00:22:29:20
The whole unit on it. You’re not splicing four or five always on the seam and it’s on folded waterproof paper. That’s right. It’ll hold up the regular B l m ones. They’re paper and they, the seams they come falling apart. You open that 10 times and you’ve gots

00:22:29:20 –> 00:22:34:05
I’ve got some of those. They’re relics. Yeah. There’s some writings on there that are hieroglyphics. That’s

00:22:34:05 –> 00:23:26:11
Right. So we, we got that on our website. There’s a lot of different things you can, you can use as resources to plan your hunts or, and if you’re a member of Epic Outdoors as well, like we’ve alluded, we get calls daily from people that have drawn tags, whether they’re gonna go guided and we can help put ’em in the right direction of somebody we know and trust that can make the best use of their tag and situation there. Or if there’s self-guided, maybe we have firsthand experience somebody in the office if we don’t maybe close secondhand knowledge of it and can give you something. Or just bouncing ideas. If you’re trying to decide, hey, I’m weighing out, I’ve, I’ve had a lot of guys saying, Hey, I’ve got one scouting trip that I can do on, on a certain trip or unit that I drew. When should I do that? When should I schedule my scouting trip? I, I had somebody that, that wanted to go scout their deer unit in in June because, and I says, well, and their hunt was late September muzzle order. And I’m like, they’re not built

00:23:26:11 –> 00:23:26:18
Yet.

00:23:26:29 –> 00:23:28:10
I I wouldn’t do that. See,

00:23:28:14 –> 00:23:30:19
See a cheater at the base, a basal point that, that’s

00:23:30:19 –> 00:23:41:06
About it. And they’re like, well that’s what I got the best time I could make it work in early August. And I’m like, make it work in early August. That’s when you’re gonna see a bucket of potential. That’s right. Make

00:23:41:11 –> 00:24:25:29
Well, and we’ve seen Bronson between August 1st and August 10th, especially in Nevada, we’ve seen bucks that went from non shooter to freaking monster by the end of August. 10 days. Oh yeah. 10 days. And, and and I bring that up because it a specific deer and that opener is the first opener sometimes except for California and it’s, you know, August 10th for Archer Deer. So what a great time of year. Right. Love that state for that reason. So anyway, dri grab your map, drive around the unit. When we’re going into a unit, there’s like, I was telling a guy on the phone hunt this unit for 72 hours. What do I really know about the unit? I don’t have local knowledge, but what I do know is what I saw and what I saw was feed bitter. Brush burn burns. Yeah. And, and the wilderness country was full of thick trees. I mean that’s kind of

00:24:25:29 –> 00:24:29:29
Like freaking trees in Arizona. Remember I handed 27 a few years ago. I had it for 15 minutes.

00:24:30:13 –> 00:24:35:06
What, what, what do you know about 27? I did tell me everything you know, and we better be here for an hour. What

00:24:35:06 –> 00:24:39:29
Kind of numbers, what kind of numbers did you see? How much bugling action would you go earlier or late? When did the bulls respond the best? The

00:24:39:29 –> 00:24:40:24
Best I can. I’ve

00:24:41:08 –> 00:24:46:29
A hundred for 15 minutes. I lit. Walked up the trail, said that heard raking tree.

00:24:46:29 –> 00:24:47:13
Having said that,

00:24:48:01 –> 00:24:48:25
He came in, I shot him.

00:24:49:01 –> 00:24:54:25
Like many of you, you’ve hunted long enough, you can go into a unit, drive around and get a feel for it then call these guys on our list. Well, and I

00:24:54:25 –> 00:25:23:05
Did and I did do that the week or two before. Remember I think we did a podcast there. I’m down there and I got a feel for the unit overview of it so I can talk that, that knowledge. But but we don’t always grind something for 21 days, you know? No. And learn every nuance about a unit, but you’re gonna probably learn something not to not to pound our chest or the chest of all of our members. You’re probably gonna learn something from them, even if it’s about accommodations and where you should stay. A hundred percent. Hundred percent. Where the

00:25:23:05 –> 00:25:23:28
Get nearest gas is

00:25:25:03 –> 00:25:37:20
All kinds of stuff. Yeah. Where you should be, you know, what portions of the unit do you think you hunt various times of the, of the, some of these hunts were 30 days long. October five or or November five. Where are you gonna be within that unit then?

00:25:37:23 –> 00:26:20:07
And there’re gonna be differences in a lot of cases they migrate. So yeah, I think just based, grab your maps. Go do a go do a run around, check it out, go do your access points, then make some phone calls. Hey, I seen some country looked amazing. What about this? You know what, I felt the same way, but when I went in there it sucked. There was no animals for some reason. Water, whatever. Pressure predation. I don’t know. There’s things that happen anyway, just saying that’s a good place to start. Bio maps, go do a runaround, give our members a call. Give us a call, and you’re gonna start learning stuff. And then also just think if it’s October 1st or earlier, they’re probably in a summer pattern. Deer, I mean

00:26:20:19 –> 00:26:21:11
Elk kick out the road.

00:26:21:11 –> 00:26:54:05
Obviously elk, you’re gonna have rutt, elk, you’re gonna, I don’t even wanna talk about just drive and, and look at everything that chases your truck. You know what I mean? And shoot the biggest one. I don’t know. Alright. So anyway, I don’t even know why we got to that point. But, and then elk, you know, elk like, like you were talking about, I ran cameras. I I had a muzz or tag or multi-season tag. Utah. Okay. Southwest desert, Utah. The bull I killed, I got on truck camera two days prior, like September 23rd. He came in with the cows. Never seen ’em before.

00:26:54:10 –> 00:26:56:16
You’d been running cameras there for two months. That’s right. Right,

00:26:56:16 –> 00:26:57:23
That’s right. Where’d he come from? Maybe

00:26:57:23 –> 00:26:59:05
Even Nevada. Who? Right.

00:26:59:19 –> 00:27:09:06
And so I guess that’s to, to add to what you were talking about on elk, you have a muzzle or tag you’re running all summer, you don’t, it’s probably not. Don’t to see

00:27:09:09 –> 00:27:19:20
The bull don don’t get your heart set on it too much. I mean, you know what’s alive in the unit and, and, and that’s gives you antler grove feel goodness. That’s right.

00:27:19:29 –> 00:27:20:13
You feel good

00:27:20:14 –> 00:27:30:20
Based on the I like that. Hey, that’s a good year. It’s a good year. It looks like a bunch of big bulls. I’m in good shape or I haven’t seen a three 50 bull on camera all year long in my unit. Yeah. Okay. That that’s gonna

00:27:31:00 –> 00:27:44:24
First three 20, he steps out, I’m gonna smoke him, you know, but, but Bronson, there’s the other big bull in a unit here in Utah. Yeah. And he’s on trail camera in the summer. He’s on trail camera in the rutt and he’s on trail camera in the winter of which are 15 plus miles apart.

00:27:44:24 –> 00:27:47:06
Pick up sheds. You never Yeah. It’s like,

00:27:47:11 –> 00:27:52:02
So if you have a November elk hunt, a September elk hunt, an August elk hunt, those are different

00:27:52:02 –> 00:28:41:24
Places. Completely different. Yep. And, and those are subtleties that you’re gonna find out through if you’re gonna want a guided hunt or if you’re gonna go with an out, a self-guided approach with a hunter that’s hunted in your season. It’s all about time and how to best use your time and prepare and get the most out of it. These tags don’t come ’em round very often, maybe ever. And make the, we’re just trying to help you make the most of them. Don’t undervalue your tags. Some of these tags I think we’ve talked to this week, people may be undervaluing what they have. You know, you’re talking, they, they draw an elk tag in Utah with one point that’s a $30,000 elk tag. That’s right. All right. Or a desert sheep that they think they did the wrong unit and they, maybe they did, but you drew a random tag on a desert sheep, you’re not turning that back. That’s right. You’re gotta make it work somehow. Yeah. Get a crew, fa, family, friends, whatever, you know,

00:28:41:29 –> 00:28:58:04
Make priorities, figure out like, like make, if you end up with a few draw tags or whatever, you’re gonna have priorities. Yeah. These are really important to me. Yeah. Let’s, let’s give somebody a call. Should we, real quick, I want to know. Okay. What shed crazy Ben Deam. Monte’s gonna do to prep for his hunts.

00:28:58:15 –> 00:28:59:13
Oh, good call.

00:28:59:13 –> 00:29:13:07
Alright. Do you think, do you think he’s got anything in mind except for sheds? I don’t know maybe where his next set of tires gonna come from, from the old tundra or what do you think Chris? I don’t know. Let’s find out maybe mixing a, a mountain ops drink. I don’t know if he was even thinking past the next mountain ops.

00:29:13:08 –> 00:29:15:18
I, I bet he’s got some plans. Okay. He’s calling.

00:29:15:25 –> 00:29:22:18
I do you think he’s, you think he’s thinking past the nmm next mountain ops shake? I do. Let’s find out. Let’s see what he has to say.

00:29:26:20 –> 00:29:27:00
Hello.

00:29:27:05 –> 00:29:31:02
Did I interrupt a drinking a mountain ops shake over there? Or what do you got going?

00:29:31:21 –> 00:29:34:23
Dude, that’s so funny. I’m actually supposed to have a call with them in a second.

00:29:35:05 –> 00:29:39:11
Oh man. This call’s way more important. You’re on the Epic Outdoors podcast. They can wait.

00:29:40:04 –> 00:29:43:29
Oh geez. On the podcast. Put in the hot seat. I see how you guys are. Chris.

00:29:44:02 –> 00:29:48:05
Chris said, Hey, you’d be more annoying to just talk with us today. So we thought that’s calling. Sure,

00:29:48:06 –> 00:29:51:22
Yeah. I’ll bring some knowledge to this, to this train wreck of a podcast for sure.

00:29:52:00 –> 00:29:55:22
Right on. Well where’s the next 200 inch pair of sheds gonna be found? Gimme the leap. Yes. Location.

00:29:56:29 –> 00:30:01:17
Yeah, that’ll be probably, you know, on the Wasatch front if I had to

00:30:01:17 –> 00:30:04:18
Guess they’re

00:30:04:18 –> 00:30:05:06
In that good country.

00:30:05:19 –> 00:30:05:28
Yeah.

00:30:06:07 –> 00:30:10:20
What, you got some tags this year? This is Adam. You pulled any good tags we need to know about?

00:30:11:22 –> 00:30:17:07
I pulled a late archery elk tag in Arizona, which is a good unit but not a good tag.

00:30:18:07 –> 00:30:18:13
Wow.

00:30:18:26 –> 00:30:24:25
And then, let’s see, I haven’t really pulled much else kind of waiting on Colorado. When’s that supposed to come

00:30:24:25 –> 00:30:28:29
Out next week? We’re just talking about that and it’s, I wish they’d be early, but they’re not.

00:30:29:04 –> 00:30:31:16
Did you do another muzzle or hunt or what’d you do? I,

00:30:31:24 –> 00:30:39:12
I didn’t, I put in for a third season tagging unit that I’ve never been to, but I heard some rumors and I’m gonna go try and figure it out a little, a little more desert this year.

00:30:39:17 –> 00:30:41:10
What unit was it? I’ll do a little research.

00:30:42:07 –> 00:30:42:13
Oh

00:30:42:13 –> 00:30:43:07
Yeah. I can’t

00:30:43:13 –> 00:30:44:24
Remember those numbers.

00:30:45:07 –> 00:30:45:29
A little fuzzy, you know,

00:30:45:29 –> 00:30:48:23
To have to go check your receipt if you can find it. I dunno.

00:30:49:01 –> 00:30:53:00
Yeah. Yeah. I’ll have to look back through the email and get you that information. I’ll text it right over.

00:30:53:15 –> 00:30:58:17
All right. Well, we’ll probably find out right after it ends there in November, so.

00:30:59:01 –> 00:31:01:26
Yeah. Yep. We were on the, if I kill anything Good. I’ll tell you,

00:31:02:02 –> 00:31:20:04
We were on the topic of preparing for hunts. That’s what we were talking about prior to your name coming up on the podcast this morning about what are we doing to prepare for Hunts. And so Jason and Chris said, let’s call shed crazy. Let’s find out what he, what his regimen is and what his preparation looks like for preparing for one.

00:31:20:05 –> 00:31:25:05
And I, and I said, the only thing you’re preparing for is the next shake you’re gonna drink. That’s the only thing you’re preparing for.

00:31:25:11 –> 00:31:51:00
Well, I’ll tell you what you have to do. Like, it’s a lot of thinking and planning goes into my fitness regime for the hunts and mostly thinking and planning actually. I think it’s all thinking and planning. And then I think like maybe the week before the hunt I’m like, oh shoot, I probably should’ve like actually done something instead of just thought about it the whole time. But I like the hike. I hike Molly’s nipple a few times. Come just for, you know, about Molly’s nipple. It’s not a, it’s only slightly inappropriate, but it’s a good hike and,

00:31:51:07 –> 00:31:54:23
Well, there’s a lot of ’em. Nevada has 14 of ’em. I mean there’s, it’s either

00:31:54:29 –> 00:31:55:00
Nel,

00:31:55:16 –> 00:31:57:20
Where the heck those names come from. I guess it’s either

00:31:57:28 –> 00:31:59:05
Nelly or Molly, I don’t know. Oh,

00:31:59:09 –> 00:32:05:14
Just to clear the air. There’s a lot of geographic locations with interesting names here in the west, so in just

00:32:05:14 –> 00:32:07:19
To make fun in, they’re everywhere. I mean, it’s all over

00:32:07:26 –> 00:32:27:17
In Ben’s defense. No big deal. It’s the legitimate name of an actual mountain. That’s right. Many of them. We didn’t go south on the podcast anyway. Anyway. So what, what do you, are you, are you a prec scout and I mean, you’re out. She shed hunting like crazy. Of course. Found a big old sheep there in Arizona, it seemed like not

00:32:27:17 –> 00:32:47:17
Too long. Yeah, yeah, we stumbled onto one of those And bones. Yeah, mostly shed hunting and we’re trying to get, get a beat on units we wanna be in for the fall. And just seeing what, seeing what happens. I know it’s time to kind of start peaking at our bucks in Utah and see if there’s any alive left in the stuff we’d like to hunt. I got a dedicated hunter tag in Utah, so we’ll see. See what that looks like.

00:32:48:00 –> 00:32:56:02
Yeah, right on. Well, cool. Are you, you got some plans with the mountain ops crew and Chester and them? I mean, are you guys doing some group hunts or

00:32:56:02 –> 00:33:00:01
Sounds like a conference call. We’re, we’re kind of putting that off right now. That’s

00:33:00:01 –> 00:33:17:11
Okay. I didn’t really want to talk to ’em that bad. They’re good. Yeah, they’re good people. They make a good energy drink. I, I might do something with Eric. We put in for New Mexico together and nothing panned out for us yet, but we may head down and buy some land under tags in New Mexico and see how that goes. I bought one through you guys a couple years ago and had a pretty good time.

00:33:18:01 –> 00:33:24:08
Good. Yeah. Right on. Yep. It seems like you did, you killed a nice bull down there.

00:33:24:26 –> 00:33:27:06
Yeah, just a eater. It was a good bull. Yeah, it was a good

00:33:27:06 –> 00:33:36:13
Time. Well, any meat in this Covid environment, how’s Covid affecting you up there? You, you’ve been out there hiking in the hills, wearing a mask. What have you been doing?

00:33:36:27 –> 00:34:04:26
That’s all I do is just take precautions, you know? Yeah. Like I, safety, it’s safety first around here. You know, the governors of a lot of states said we need to stay off the public lands. So I definitely followed those orders a hundred percent to the t Never went out and took advantage of the public lands being closed, so we just kept a tight rope on it. But so far the covid hasn’t been too big of a deal for me. Just, just hiking, you know, spending those hot days out in the sun walking around, but

00:34:05:21 –> 00:34:06:06
Perfect.

00:34:06:24 –> 00:34:15:23
All right Ben. Well is there any other little tidbits you wanna share with the listeners out here about how to prepare for their hunts and, and you know,

00:34:16:17 –> 00:34:22:26
Yeah, the best thing you can do to prepare for your hunts and get ready is get over and get your shed crazy hat and a t-shirt. You know, like there’s nothing that’ll come

00:34:22:26 –> 00:34:25:11
On. This is gonna definitely cut. Do

00:34:25:11 –> 00:34:29:08
You have the ones, where do you have the ones that sleeves are cut off? Like the wife

00:34:29:08 –> 00:34:30:05
Peter? I can precut

00:34:30:11 –> 00:34:31:04
If you want for,

00:34:31:04 –> 00:34:37:02
For the additional cost. I think those, those might be hotter than hotter sellers than you think. I don’t know. Might Yeah. New Ew, Ew. A

00:34:37:02 –> 00:34:38:04
Crazy wife eater. Yeah,

00:34:40:04 –> 00:34:46:02
That’s probably a good idea. Bronson, you should be getting a kickback on any of the future wife eaters that he sells. I don’t, that’s

00:34:46:10 –> 00:34:51:20
That’s, I don’t think I’ve seen the skew. I haven’t seen it on the gram, so I don’t know. Maybe throw one up there. We’ll

00:34:51:20 –> 00:34:54:18
Set up a promo code. We’ll use code Adam for 10% off there. There

00:34:54:18 –> 00:34:58:02
You go. You bet Wifebeater Adam and put it on there. Hashtag wifebeater Adam.

00:34:58:13 –> 00:35:10:14
And, and if you have a, your farmer’s tan is like halfway through your bicep and tricep, but if it’s up on your shoulder, it’s not really farmer’s tan anymore, so I mean Right. It’s not, it’s just, you know, you got a brown arm whole way up now.

00:35:10:14 –> 00:35:11:28
That’s the Utah tan. It’s

00:35:11:28 –> 00:35:16:00
All way up there. There you go. The, the Larry, the cable guy Tan. How’s that? Oh

00:35:16:11 –> 00:35:18:04
Geez. So what a vision. Yeah.

00:35:18:08 –> 00:35:22:07
Great. Anyway, well there’s, there’s an idea for you. Go and do good things.

00:35:22:25 –> 00:35:31:04
Okay guys, well if, if you come up with any ideas, just remember that we need to be having some kickbacks here. We don’t do things free around here at Epic Outdoors. Oh

00:35:31:04 –> 00:35:33:17
Yeah, yeah. I can’t be doing without free advertising. I know all about that.

00:35:33:18 –> 00:35:34:10
Okay. Yeah. All right.

00:35:34:13 –> 00:35:38:02
Time is money. Luck.

00:35:38:02 –> 00:35:38:13
Thanks for

00:35:38:13 –> 00:35:39:05
Being a good sport.

00:35:40:01 –> 00:35:41:06
Okay. Have fun fellas.

00:35:42:02 –> 00:35:48:23
Yeah. Always in. You never know what’s gonna go. No. Come outta the mic. So Chris, you got a little bit of work to do there. I think

00:35:49:20 –> 00:36:01:18
One thing I was wondering is if we shouldn’t give you a, a call real quick. Yeah, I just wanna see what old Larkin’s up to. He’s kind of the go-to man and he’s the outdoor in the outdoors

00:36:01:18 –> 00:36:06:16
Outdoor world. We’ve been helping, trying to plan some of his personal hunts out west this year. So we’re

00:36:06:19 –> 00:36:09:25
He had a huge long list. Yeah. Hunts that he wants wishlist

00:36:09:25 –> 00:36:14:04
Over the next three to four years. So trying to chip away one or two at a time. Yeah,

00:36:14:04 –> 00:36:22:20
Three. He can give us an update on UA and everything they got going. Let’s see what he has to say. I don’t know. He might not take my call. You never know. He’s a busy guy. He’s

00:36:22:20 –> 00:36:26:04
Screening. He might be in a covid meeting.

00:36:30:01 –> 00:36:30:07
Hi.

00:36:31:08 –> 00:36:31:22
What? He

00:36:32:00 –> 00:36:32:23
Answered. What are you doing

00:36:32:29 –> 00:36:33:18
First ring?

00:36:33:27 –> 00:36:35:14
He was driving and jamming baby.

00:36:37:04 –> 00:36:40:00
Hey, well you’re on the Epic Outdoors podcast so don’t swear. Okay.

00:36:41:21 –> 00:36:43:10
I’m glad I didn’t answer it like I normally do.

00:36:46:09 –> 00:36:59:19
Hey, what’s going on boys? Nothing. We’re just talking about you. Hey. And, and giving out just a few codes. We’re just wondering what the environment’s like over there in, in Baltimore and how things are [email protected].

00:37:00:09 –> 00:38:02:22
Yep. Well I can tell you this much. They’ve cooped me up for far too long. I’m ready to get out. Everybody’s doing well. A lot of businesses are still shut down in Maryland, but under Armour’s doing good. The Under Armour family’s doing good business is good. Appreciate everybody listening in and, and supporting our great partners at at Epic. I’ll tell you this much, we got some codes coming out and we’ll continue to share those out, but we got some Ridge Reaper products online right now and then we have some new stuff coming out in July. So obviously we, we appreciate everyone’s support and, and considering and and supporting the brand, but this is just a small effort we’re making ’cause we know that everybody’s budgets are tight. A lot of people are, have been laid off and furloughed and, and I think as we look at the outdoors being essential providing food for our families, the least we can do is just get back to our community and make sure they know that we care and and in whatever way we can. So yeah. Yeah, man,

00:38:02:28 –> 00:38:20:21
That’s freaking awesome, Jed. I appreciate that. And I know a lot of other guys will too. We’ve set it up how they can get their codes and talked about it on this particular podcast. Also, dude, you’re planning hunts like it’s your job. I mean, we’ve been cranking out. You, you have been coop cooped up. We’ve got a full-time guy just dealing with your s don’t,

00:38:21:00 –> 00:38:28:05
Don’t tell anybody that’s like, that’s secret stuff. I don’t need to be the the outward face. I’m, I’m the, I’m the man behind the curtain. Well,

00:38:28:09 –> 00:38:37:18
Yeah, but it’s still fun. Like you said, you’ve been cooped up, we’ve all been cooped up and we gotta think about fall and gotta have a carrot dangling out there in front of us all and something

00:38:37:18 –> 00:38:38:25
To look forward to forward. Yeah,

00:38:38:25 –> 00:38:48:04
That’s right. Well, I can tell you this much. It’s been, I’ve worked with you guys, Jason and, and Chris specifically for almost 10 years. We’re coming on that mark right now.

00:38:48:09 –> 00:38:50:23
Geez. It’s been that long. How’d we make? It’s been that,

00:38:51:01 –> 00:39:04:25
It’s been that long and I, I can tell you I’m very excited. I’m very, very excited for this fall. Long time coming. We got some good trips coming up. We always have good trips, but just looking forward to getting in camp with the guys.

00:39:05:10 –> 00:39:19:23
Well, I think it’s important for people to know that, you know, not only is you ain’t making good gear, but they’re out there doing it. You guys are out there in the field, you’re wearing the gear. I mean, there’s some crazy trips you’re gonna be taking part of as well as the other Uua team members. So

00:39:20:03 –> 00:39:27:25
We just, we just have to train a lot harder when you guys hike in a day. I mean, that would take me across, across three state lines here on East coast. So,

00:39:28:27 –> 00:39:31:19
And what elevation you living at? 275 feet.

00:39:31:19 –> 00:39:32:00
Exactly. And

00:39:32:15 –> 00:39:35:08
No, I think we’re now, I think we’re at like 20 feet. Where I’m at

00:39:36:00 –> 00:39:38:23
A brutal day is 45 feet in elevation. Yeah, exactly.

00:39:39:16 –> 00:39:49:29
The wa the wave the waves crash on my, my back deck. Yeah. But no, we’re, we’re doing good. The team’s doing good. We’re just every, like you said, everybody’s just trying to stay focused and positive right now.

00:39:50:15 –> 00:40:18:17
Well, we appreciate Under Armour being able to provide some of these promo codes that, like Jason said, we’ve we’re announcing on this podcast to be able to give ’em away through our Epic outdoors website through partnership with you guys at, at ua and to use them, use them up by the end of June and, you know, pass some savings on to people to go buy some great gear planning some of their hunts and, and all that. So appreciate you partnering with us and making that available to our listeners on the podcast.

00:40:19:15 –> 00:40:24:13
No problem. Thanks for throwing me on the spot and for prepping me in advance for this. I really appreciate that guys Just

00:40:24:13 –> 00:40:25:00
Better, just

00:40:25:00 –> 00:40:25:12
Better that

00:40:25:12 –> 00:40:32:01
Way. Just don’t fire me. All right. No, it was Bronson’s idea. It was Bronson’s idea and I was railroaded by a vote. Hey,

00:40:32:08 –> 00:40:37:23
I can’t, I can’t unblock his phone Larkin and, and call you. That’s right. He did it. He did it on his phone. So

00:40:38:22 –> 00:40:39:25
All right guy. Thank Be

00:40:39:25 –> 00:40:41:03
Safe travel safe. Alright

00:40:41:03 –> 00:40:42:07
Boys, be y’all. Talk to you soon.

00:40:42:10 –> 00:40:47:27
All right, talk to you later. Bye. Oh, he is a good dude. He’s a good

00:40:47:27 –> 00:40:48:06
Sport.

00:40:48:23 –> 00:40:52:18
Alright, Bronson, what else have we got to talk about? Huh?

00:40:53:03 –> 00:41:23:27
Well, if you don’t have a hunt, how about we talk about that because we’re okay quickly gonna be coming upon that realization for some people, like we talked about Colorado, Wyoming, or you know, Idaho, they’re all gonna be coming out here in early to mid, mid-June. If you’re left without a hunt of any kind or enough on your schedule, you’ve got a few different options. You’ve got landowner attack considerations. Like, like Ben talked about New Mexico for elk. Some of

00:41:23:27 –> 00:41:24:06
Those will

00:41:24:06 –> 00:42:13:19
Be coming out, they’ll be coming out too. Deer tags, which are a little bit different in Colorado, being able to have to buy those direct from landowners. But that’s another option there if you need, you know, it may result that you need it in a, you know, a guided hunt. If you got some money set aside, you didn’t draw anything and you need, you know, a deer, an elk or antelope, whatever it is, shoot sheep, go moose, whatever it is, give us a call. We can try to find the right hunt that you’re looking for for the budget that you’re in, in these, in these times. Like I said, it’s all predicated on your schedule, your, your ability, your your means and everything like that. Just give us a call and see if we can work something in to get something on your schedule. Don’t let, let another hunting season go by if you can make it work. Just don’t let another one go by without going and doing something, having having a great time.

00:42:13:21 –> 00:42:33:20
That’s right. We’ve also got another way that guys can win hunts. It’s our membership drive here at Epic Outdoors. It’s never too late to become a member here. While the application season is largely behind us or coming at us right now. This is a 12 month membership. It’ll be good from now till this time next year. Yeah. And so, so if you,

00:42:33:26 –> 00:43:07:02
If you put it off, yeah, don’t worry about it. You buy it now, you’re gonna still get all the next, you know, January through June, magazines next year. So it doesn’t matter. It even though a lot of that’s over, like you said, we’ve got incentive right now. If you join, you get an entry for one of our awesome hunts there. Doll sheep, a couple mule deer hunts, Nevada elk. That’s right. Co deer in Mexico. Barbary sheep in Texas, Colorado Deer pick, take your pick. Will you join? You get an entry for that. And also, like I said, all the membership benefits that we’ve, we’ve talked about some of those today as well.

00:43:07:05 –> 00:43:25:12
That’s right. And if you’re current member, you can sure get another ticket in the membership drive for one of these free hunts by sponsoring your buddies. Tell your buddies about it. They drop your name, of course you’ll be in there too and you can also buy tickets. So anyway, go to epic outdoors.com, you’ll learn more. It’s right there, front and center on the front page.

00:43:25:20 –> 00:43:27:02
Got till June 19th. Click,

00:43:27:02 –> 00:43:42:29
Click your way to happiness and find you a great hunt. So anyway, as we crank forward, we also want to thank stealth cam for being a partner of ours. They got the new fusion coming out. Haven’t seen one yet. We’ve got a bunch on order. We got a lot of cameras on over Bronson. Hundreds, hundreds,

00:43:42:29 –> 00:43:43:10
Hundreds,

00:43:43:10 –> 00:43:51:26
Hundreds. So anyway, it’s gonna be important. We got guys picking ’em up daily here in person at our office and we’re shipping ’em out as well.

00:43:53:05 –> 00:43:56:00
As well as, as well as optics. That’s right. Both. It’s that time of year as well.

00:43:56:19 –> 00:44:02:10
Optics are flying out the door. Geez. Flying out the door. So

00:44:02:13 –> 00:44:05:28
Our summers are usually been a little bit lighter after the draws come out and things like that. But the

00:44:05:28 –> 00:44:11:18
Summers may was always an enjoyable month. What happened? Oh, we decided to grow a little bit. Geez. Good. Well

00:44:11:18 –> 00:44:43:08
It’s good. It’s kind of a natural, we’ve talked about that many other times. But if you are in the market for a new riflescope, new bino, spotting scope, whatever, give us a call like as Zeiss Swarovski Vortex dealers, glad to help you out. Give you some great pricing over the phone. So phone number (435) 263-0777 On that. If you’re interested in upgrading something, you got a great tag. You think it warrants newer or better glass than what you have or just different glass, a different piece that you don’t have. Give us a call. I’m glad to give our opinion on it.

00:44:43:18 –> 00:45:50:10
Okay. This podcast is a little bit different. A lot of it is just that you got deadlines coming, you got deadlines going, you got draw results coming, good and bad news, lots of pre planning and preparation purchases for gear. So we just kind of wanted to cover all that and as we, as we continue to do that here, want to throw a little shout out to phone scope. Done a lot of video and with phone scope went out on the outdoor channel. A lot of the video that was on the outdoor channel was through cell phone captures video, captures through phone scope where you can attach your phone to the optic you’re looking through, whether it be binoculars, spotting, scope, riflescope, whatever they’ve got it. Go to www.phone scope.com. That’s P O N E ss K O P e.com. 1-800-790-FOUR four eight oh. Phone scope with a k, phone scope.com. They can do everything you need and it’s awesome. If you didn’t video it, it didn’t happen. And so anyway, you can prove it and publish it and enjoy it forever. Transfer it course phone to phone airdrop. That’s the best way.

00:45:50:17 –> 00:45:54:29
Pretty much changed the way we, you know, we’ve said this a million times, why don’t

00:45:54:29 –> 00:45:55:14
We think that change the

00:45:55:18 –> 00:46:44:25
Industry? Why don’t we think of that? But anyway, yeah, moving right along. If you’re in the market also, you drew a great tag or maybe you didn’t draw any tags and you think, hey, I’m, I am gonna sit home this year and usually go on a guided hunt because of, you know, some of the restrictions. I’m not gonna do that. But maybe you’re looking to upgrade a rifle or you have a tag that you think you wanna update a rifle. Give the guys an m o a rifles consideration. That’s m o a rifles.com 5 4 1 5 2 6 18 20. They’ve got ultra lightweight, you know the M o A scent rifle, which I have one of those six five prc. It’s an awesome shooter. Can’t have too many guns. I don’t know. You just can’t, you know, I mean, that’s what we told our wives for years, Carter. It’s like, it’s like a 4 0 1 k. Yeah. A gun on the safe is like a 4 0 1 k. Oh.

00:46:45:05 –> 00:46:51:28
So, well, yeah. Okay. Let’s bring it up to my wife right now. Let’s call her and let’s see if she agrees. Okay. I want,

00:46:52:03 –> 00:46:55:01
But you asked her that question. Not me. You asked your wife that. Okay,

00:46:55:01 –> 00:47:00:08
Let’s do it. Let’s see what she has to say. See if she’s sitting at her desk. She should be, if she’s not, I’m gonna be ticked.

00:47:00:16 –> 00:47:03:17
She might be on the phone with a client, so and so.

00:47:04:10 –> 00:47:04:17
Hey.

00:47:04:17 –> 00:47:05:13
Hello. Are you working?

00:47:06:16 –> 00:47:07:05
I’m always working.

00:47:07:26 –> 00:47:11:10
Are you working like right here? Like right here in the office? Right, right

00:47:11:10 –> 00:47:12:08
Here in the office right now.

00:47:12:19 –> 00:47:19:05
That’s what I’m talking about. Well, one thing we were talking about here on the Epic Outdoors Podcast, which you’re a part of now.

00:47:19:26 –> 00:47:20:17
Oh, right.

00:47:20:17 –> 00:47:25:16
Nice. Is the value of guns being a savings account for you And I,

00:47:25:24 –> 00:47:34:01
I made the comment, I made a comment and Jason thought, calling you is a good idea. But my comment was like, A gun in the safe is just like a 4 0 1 K.

00:47:34:04 –> 00:47:34:26
What’s your thoughts?

00:47:37:28 –> 00:47:46:23
I think this, these are my thoughts. I think men in generals and hunters especially, are really good at making everything they want and investment.

00:47:47:21 –> 00:47:49:22
Okay. What’s wrong with that? We’re

00:47:49:22 –> 00:47:50:23
Very invested.

00:47:51:10 –> 00:47:56:12
We’re very invested and we have lots of savings accounts in many different places. Every truck has a savings account of

00:47:56:12 –> 00:47:58:07
Yes. Are tangible. Most of them are very tangible.

00:47:58:11 –> 00:48:00:12
There’s a pair of tins in every truck. You agree?

00:48:01:17 –> 00:48:06:00
Yes. No, not always. Your truck robbed. You’re gonna get your truck robbed.

00:48:07:28 –> 00:48:09:24
The deer, the deer hat on the wall. You don’t tell people

00:48:09:24 –> 00:48:12:18
Where your investments are. Your investments are supposed to stay private, remember?

00:48:12:23 –> 00:48:21:11
Oh yeah, that’s right. Don’t talk about how many guns we have, but we have many. Let’s talk about this too. You were raised in a great family. Your dad believed that guns were what?

00:48:22:29 –> 00:48:24:08
He believed they were an investment.

00:48:24:23 –> 00:48:25:02
He did.

00:48:25:13 –> 00:48:25:20
He did.

00:48:26:01 –> 00:48:27:02
He did. Oh, he’s got hundred.

00:48:27:03 –> 00:48:27:28
He’s an awesome guy. He

00:48:28:05 –> 00:48:35:23
Believed that, that you couldn’t have enough guns, that there was never a reason to quit buying guns. And he still, he’s buying guns in his seventies. So,

00:48:36:01 –> 00:48:38:05
And every dad is a hundred percent correct. Right?

00:48:39:13 –> 00:48:39:26
Not always,

00:48:42:19 –> 00:48:50:04
But I like that line of thinking. And I, I know you’re, I know we live by, I know your dad, Jen and I. He’s a, he’s a heck of a guy. Oh, I

00:48:50:04 –> 00:48:55:12
Know. I know. Jason loves him too. Jason loves him for his philosophy. He loves you for a lot

00:48:55:12 –> 00:49:08:08
Of things. Well, here’s one thing about Craig and we should put him on the podcast one of these days, no matter what you do, he can spin it, positivity can, a silver lining. He can find there’s a silver, there’s gold linings. Think in things that are otherwise not lined at all.

00:49:08:15 –> 00:49:17:08
That’s kind of like Jana’s initial comment. I think men in general, especially hunters, they can, I don’t know if she used the term justify, but that’s

00:49:17:08 –> 00:49:18:04
What I meant. Yeah,

00:49:18:04 –> 00:49:18:12
That’s, yeah.

00:49:19:09 –> 00:49:19:19
You could

00:49:19:26 –> 00:49:20:11
Justify

00:49:20:26 –> 00:49:21:29
Anything. Guns in the safe and

00:49:21:29 –> 00:49:27:18
Everything. Trail cameras, heaps of trail cameras in the corner. That’s that. Might as well be corn. Bushels of corn.

00:49:27:27 –> 00:49:32:12
It’s food storage. It’s food storage. It’s food storage. Because those trail cameras provided meat for the family.

00:49:33:17 –> 00:49:33:25
Very.

00:49:34:04 –> 00:49:34:29
If you or if you

00:49:34:29 –> 00:49:40:10
Needed to sell ’em on pennies on the dollar, if you needed to trade ’em at the farmer’s market, could,

00:49:40:11 –> 00:49:46:05
It’s either that could you, it’s either that or a piece of gold. I mean, it’s the same thing. People would trade trail cameras

00:49:46:29 –> 00:49:50:04
With a lockbox. That’s even, that’s pure gold. Did I

00:49:50:04 –> 00:49:55:29
Mention that occasionally These investments come by delusion. I mean, you guys get a little delusional at times.

00:49:56:29 –> 00:50:01:11
That is only, that’s your perspective don’t exist. That’s your, that’s your perspective

00:50:01:16 –> 00:50:04:17
And that’s all we’re Jason wanted to call you on is your perspective. Okay.

00:50:04:17 –> 00:50:08:08
Alright. Sounds good. Love you. We’ll talk to you later. Thanks Jenna. That’s enough.

00:50:11:00 –> 00:50:13:04
I don’t know if that gave you what you wanted, Charlie. She gone,

00:50:15:02 –> 00:50:15:11
I don’t

00:50:15:11 –> 00:50:20:17
Know if that gave you the answers you wanted, but there’s some truth to what she said. But I, I do think

00:50:21:02 –> 00:50:22:06
Swarovski is money. The, I still

00:50:22:06 –> 00:50:22:28
Stand the behind the statement.

00:50:23:06 –> 00:50:24:04
Swarovski’s like money in the bank.

00:50:24:08 –> 00:50:28:05
Well, all optics, it doesn’t matter any of the optics we got, we got it’s money in the bank. Think about

00:50:28:05 –> 00:50:30:04
It. Vortex like they got a warranty because it’s killer.

00:50:30:25 –> 00:50:32:00
That doesn’t matter. It’s money

00:50:32:00 –> 00:50:41:11
In the bank. It’s, you can’t you run it over, they’ll replace it again. You can’t. I don’t know what to say about that. That’s right. It’s safe though. It’s a safe investment. Right.

00:50:41:15 –> 00:50:46:14
And guns are too. And that’s what started this. The m o A rifle analogy. Yeah. Where

00:50:46:17 –> 00:50:47:22
We, where’d we get off on that? That was,

00:50:47:29 –> 00:50:58:20
I do have a little story. Oh, go ahead. Okay. Yeah. Could support this. So good. Several years ago I was, you know, a college kid running low on cash and this

00:50:58:20 –> 00:51:02:05
Is probably a year and a half ago. I’m just teasing. This would’ve been long.

00:51:02:26 –> 00:51:04:10
Ten’s been a long 12. Yeah,

00:51:04:20 –> 00:51:05:02
It’s a lot.

00:51:05:23 –> 00:51:17:10
Anyway, I had a pair of ELs and I was planning on buying some new ones. Actually I had already bought some new ones. Might’ve been when they were going like HD through

00:51:17:10 –> 00:51:17:13
The years.

00:51:17:16 –> 00:51:25:28
10 by four, two. Yeah. So I upgraded, I bought the newer version. Well six months go by and I was in need of some serious cash.

00:51:26:08 –> 00:51:28:20
Come on. Yeah. I haven’t even heard this story. Me

00:51:28:20 –> 00:51:37:29
Either. I don’t know where it’s going. So I was able to sell my old pair of VS. Okay. For the same price that I bought them for.

00:51:38:26 –> 00:51:39:02
Wow.

00:51:39:14 –> 00:51:44:13
This is years old. Years. They have appreciated Swarovski, have appreciate, appreciated. It’s Yeah,

00:51:44:15 –> 00:51:45:28
It’s true. Gained in value. It’s

00:51:45:28 –> 00:51:50:24
True. Yep. So I didn’t lose a dime. I got years of glassing out of them and I was able to

00:51:51:03 –> 00:51:51:28
Buy food, make

00:51:51:28 –> 00:52:20:00
A house payment. Yeah. Come on. Buy food. It doesn’t matter. And, and the same thing happen. I know, you know, in different phases they come out with phase one of spotting scope or SLCs or ELSs. And then as coatings and technology changes over a, we’re talking 10 or 15 year period. Oh yeah. It’s not every year. It’s nice to, to upgrade. There’s monumental changes. Upgrade. It’s nice to upgrade, but they went to HD and SOCs and then the spotting scopes and yeah. So yeah, you want the best, the best technology, you know, all glass. It doesn’t matter what money in the bank.

00:52:20:01 –> 00:52:27:20
And if you buy it right here at Epic Outdoors, you’re gonna buy it. Right. ’cause we give you a deal. If, if you buy it right, you sell,

00:52:27:20 –> 00:52:28:17
Sell it. Right. You can sell it for more. Right.

00:52:28:17 –> 00:52:30:17
You’ll be able to sell it from more. Right. If you ever

00:52:30:17 –> 00:52:31:29
Needed to upgrade, that’s in five years,

00:52:32:26 –> 00:52:48:14
COVID times hit you hard. Why? That’s an investment. Let’s call it a day on this particular podcast. Hopefully y’all are enjoying a nice free, covid free afternoon. You’re getting out, starting to scout. If you need some gear, call us. Call us with your tag. You need info. Call us. Yeah.
