In this episode, we talk about getting ready for the hunting season to kick off. As we move into mid-August, we discuss gear and strategies to consider as we try to finish the last weeks of scouting strong, and begin archery season. We also talk about wildfires that are occurring in Utah, Arizona and Colorado and what the potential effects could be on both big game and hunters.

You are listening to the Epic Outdoors Podcast, brought to you by Fierce Firearms, epic Outdoors choice for custom hunting rifles.
00:00:19:17 –> 00:00:29:18
Hey everybody. Jason Carter, Adam Bronson, and a few of the other guys here. How are you doing cash? Good, John, you doing good? Yep. John’s been scouting hard cash. You were scouting last night?
00:00:29:28 –> 00:00:30:07
I was,
00:00:30:13 –> 00:00:32:00
Yep. Seeing anything good out there?
00:00:32:28 –> 00:00:33:04
No
00:00:33:15 –> 00:00:33:24
Liar.
00:00:35:07 –> 00:00:36:19
Absolutely nothing. Nice pause
00:00:36:19 –> 00:00:36:27
There.
00:00:38:15 –> 00:00:41:02
We’re entering the secrecy portion of Yeah,
00:00:41:02 –> 00:00:42:26
Yeah. Now is, now is where,
00:00:42:29 –> 00:00:51:20
Why are hunters so secret about everything? I guess it’s everything, right? Bronson Sports and everything. People are just careful with how they do what they do and the gear you use.
00:00:51:20 –> 00:01:03:06
Exactly. You got fantasy football leagues starting up too, and that’s people holding cards close to their chest on that probably too. Who They’re gonna draft. Wyatt, do you do that or do you just do the master’s fantasy stuff once a year? Yeah,
00:01:03:08 –> 00:01:05:00
I, I know nothing about sports. So
00:01:05:09 –> 00:01:10:08
Wyatt does, Wyatt does the automatic automatic button and as long as he Your beats Gil, he’s good. Yeah,
00:01:10:09 –> 00:01:10:16
I, I
00:01:10:16 –> 00:01:13:10
Do that. I don’t even do the automatic button. Wyatt, you’re better not, I don’t
00:01:13:15 –> 00:01:24:25
Do him either. But the thought of it’s good, but I’m not around enough to make all the subtle changes throughout the year when your people get hurt and you gotta re pick. Do I? I’m just too busy doing it, so I’m not gonna anyway.
00:01:24:27 –> 00:01:27:02
Oh, Archibald’s a champion though. He’s, he’s won
00:01:27:02 –> 00:01:28:07
The family fantasy family
00:01:28:07 –> 00:01:30:19
Deal a few times. Yeah. Remember the big ring he has? Oh,
00:01:30:29 –> 00:01:37:28
He’s no joke ring. He’s no joke. Yeah, we should call him right now, except for, he’s probably not even coherent.
00:01:38:12 –> 00:01:39:16
Probably under right now.
00:01:39:16 –> 00:01:43:16
Having a procedure. All
00:01:43:16 –> 00:01:45:10
Good. We probably can’t violate any HIPAA laws.
00:01:45:15 –> 00:01:47:19
Think Yeah, we’re gonna call it an elective procedure.
00:01:49:19 –> 00:01:50:00
Might
00:01:50:00 –> 00:01:52:14
Catch him right after, though. I’ve heard that’s a pretty good
00:01:52:26 –> 00:01:53:04
Talk
00:01:54:05 –> 00:01:54:25
Anesthesia.
00:01:55:03 –> 00:01:56:20
That would be entertaining anyway.
00:01:56:21 –> 00:02:03:10
Yeah. He’s warned everybody, including his wife, can’t use their, can’t be used against me in court
00:02:03:18 –> 00:02:09:14
Otherwise. I mean, I’ve always wanted bigger pecs, but you know, Devin, he’s the only one willing to do
00:02:09:14 –> 00:02:11:20
It. He’s willing to go to the steps to take,
00:02:12:09 –> 00:02:16:18
Come on. I only thought surfer dudes in California did that.
00:02:16:24 –> 00:02:17:12
But anyway.
00:02:17:15 –> 00:02:53:25
Alright, so anyway. Well, this PO podcast is powered by Fierce. We sure appreciate them and their support here in our home state of Utah. Redmond, Utah, fierce firearms, fierce arms.com. Www do fierce arms.com. Check ’em out, give ’em a holler. Of course we have a QR code in our magazine. Full page ad there. The latest magazine. Pretty awesome. Anyway, one of our biggest bestest partners ever. We act actually talking about their rifles this morning, guys. I mean, they’re cra they’re crazy. Good. I’m an amount of scope on a, on a reaper today I think. But anyway, they’re awesome firearms.
00:02:54:03 –> 00:03:10:17
Yeah, it’s worth mentioning. We’ve got a few available out, you know, that are set up scopes ready, dialed in, like if you’re getting last minute or whatnot before a hunt and Yeah. And need to save some time. We’ve got ’em set up. Just give us a call. Yeah,
00:03:10:17 –> 00:03:13:25
We’ve got a partnership with DJs Gunsmithing here to do some stuff like that.
00:03:14:00 –> 00:03:21:23
I wish DJs Gunsmithing was a viable business. All I see is outflows mostly on debit’s part,
00:03:23:01 –> 00:03:30:12
But I mean, geez. But if you need it in a pinch, yeah, we got guns ready to go. We wanna wait. Popular
00:03:30:12 –> 00:03:38:24
Caliber guns like, like Adam’s talking about guns that are shot in just, I mean we just go out, shoot ’em in, sell ’em a or not whatever. Buy a gun, set it in
00:03:38:28 –> 00:03:40:01
Yourself. Buy a bear gun. Yeah.
00:03:40:10 –> 00:03:40:28
Pretty awesome.
00:03:41:09 –> 00:03:42:28
BARE, not BEAR.
00:03:43:09 –> 00:03:46:24
Have a lot of good point. Just own both. Do that too.
00:03:47:06 –> 00:03:50:12
Might have a seven mag that could kill a brownie. Yeah.
00:03:51:26 –> 00:04:04:15
Anyway. Pretty fun stuff. Any, if you need anything that way or need optics of any sort, rifle scopes and things like that while we’ve got ’em rings and bases, great. We can totally set you up. So anyway, give us a holler.
00:04:05:13 –> 00:04:19:12
We are gonna, we’re gonna talk. Josh went to a, a fierce event recently and we’re gonna talk to him about that on a later podcast. One of the things I did wanna mention that was pretty wild is they shot a mile over 1700 yards
00:04:20:28 –> 00:04:21:05
Interesting.
00:04:21:12 –> 00:04:23:24
And, and we’re fairly accurate. That’s
00:04:23:24 –> 00:04:30:04
Just wonder if that was Josh rung at first shot. First shot at a mile. Yeah, at a mile was a 22 Creed one. What did I have? I have no idea.
00:04:30:12 –> 00:04:31:16
I don’t what we’ll find out. But
00:04:31:21 –> 00:04:39:06
22 long rifle. The 22 creedmore, the bullet. Would that bullet disintegrate before it got a mile? Just from friction in the air? No. 50 grainer. No.
00:04:39:06 –> 00:04:42:10
What they do is they fall out of the air and they bounce on the
00:04:42:10 –> 00:04:47:07
Ground. Ends up looking like a pellet. Yeah. 1 7 7 pellet. By the time it hits there, it’s just,
00:04:50:01 –> 00:04:52:10
That’s pretty amazing. Still have lead poisoning from those
00:04:53:09 –> 00:04:54:13
Sucking on ’em all day.
00:04:54:21 –> 00:04:57:10
All day long. That’s where you kept them. I had another guy tell me that. He’s like, did we
00:04:57:10 –> 00:05:00:13
Did it. We did his kiss. Yeah, you want ’em amazing. You don’t want ’em in your pocket.
00:05:00:25 –> 00:05:09:00
Yeah. That’s kind of interesting. Just there we go. Talking about 1 7 7 pellets just came out with their newest publication. The August, September issue, huh?
00:05:09:22 –> 00:05:21:25
Check out Big go Velvet Muley on the cover. Utah Archery buck getting awesome, getting ready, right for Yeah. Season to kick off here. Utah off the coast. Nevada starts swat in a couple days. Arche deer. Yeah,
00:05:22:03 –> 00:05:23:10
Sure does. 10th.
00:05:23:13 –> 00:05:24:01
It’s tough. I mean
00:05:25:18 –> 00:05:50:16
It does. It’s tough. Tough in Nevada, although there’s still some big, big animals being found. Especially elk. But deer too. There’s been a few good bucks. Anyway, within this publication we talk about all the point systems as far as the points only Montana points only alert. Wyoming, Oregon. Of course you guys are doing points for Oregon, right? Why? Yes. You do points for everything. ’cause you don’t know when those opportunities are gonna come around. Yeah,
00:05:50:16 –> 00:05:51:16
Exactly. Build them up.
00:05:51:17 –> 00:06:26:23
Right. Build them up. So anyway, Montana, July one to September 30. Bronson, we’ve talked about this in the past July one to October 31 for Wyoming, Oregon due by November 30th. Of course most guys got it outta the way when the normal application period by May 15th. So anyway, we cover those and also have an overview of Alaska. Just general overview, of course. Wyatt talked a lot about opportunity tags, so great, great section there to kind of prep a guy for what’s out there for easy tos, get tags, what’s left. Yeah, yeah. What is left?
00:06:26:27 –> 00:06:28:12
Not as many options as there
00:06:28:29 –> 00:06:29:13
Started
00:06:29:13 –> 00:06:32:11
Off maybe even when Wyatt wrote the article. There’s less options. Started
00:06:32:11 –> 00:06:51:22
Off this turn back year. Pretty, pretty solid. Ended up knowing a few, couple of guys to get a few great turn back tags there in Colorado as well as, you know, even hearing about some of the residents in Nevada getting the first come, first serve. So we don’t have much for non-residents. I mean, you see a tag. Yeah. You
00:06:51:22 –> 00:06:56:15
Better have a bit really bad injury to turn, turn in most Nevada tags
00:06:56:20 –> 00:07:00:05
As nonresident. Don’t put it in your account, you’ll end up with a 2 0 2 deer or something like that. You know?
00:07:00:16 –> 00:07:09:19
And you’re in, what, what is the thing? Week? A week? Jail tag Jail for a week. Yeah. Tough time out. Yeah, time out for a week if you throw it in and don’t check out. Won’t
00:07:09:19 –> 00:07:28:07
Take your money. Won’t take the Walmart credit card or whatever else. Anyway. All right. So yeah, there’s a lot of that stuff going on as well. So anyway, a lot of scouting, a lot of lot of things like that we’re just cranking depending on the day scouting versus office work.
00:07:28:12 –> 00:07:38:04
Well and real hunts are starting. Yeah. Like I said, here in Utah, what, 16th week from Yeah. Sat week from this Saturday archery deer and elk. It’s almost hard to believe. Falls already here.
00:07:38:20 –> 00:07:45:23
So John, you, you asked earlier, like give, to give some truck camera techniques. Now that you’re the truck camera guru,
00:07:46:26 –> 00:07:47:05
What
00:07:47:05 –> 00:07:49:15
Did you learn? Didn’t work. How about that? Maybe we learned.
00:07:49:15 –> 00:07:50:11
What have you learned from that?
00:07:50:29 –> 00:08:04:03
I, I did learn that I would, so I had a really good mix of a whole bunch of cameras and bought a whole bunch of new ones this year, but had some from past years that the better cameras take better pictures.
00:08:04:25 –> 00:08:08:04
So spin going a nickel bar and you go first class.
00:08:08:13 –> 00:08:36:22
Yes. Especially at night when deer are moving, it’s like, ah, I think it’s a buck, but it’s moving, you know? And, and when you get new or better cameras, you know, the new stealth cams are substantially better than, than some of the old stuff. And, or, or, or even not even old. I had, you know, some that I bought that, that are just like on the cheaper end and they were not good. Well, yeah, yeah. You know,
00:08:37:01 –> 00:09:01:13
They really do show up at night. You notice a big difference. And then if you, if you have a, if you have a water trough that’s six feet long and you can put it on a post 10 feet away, you’re not gonna miss much. Yeah. But if you have a, a wet spring that comes out here, you gotta put it in the head and it’s shooting down 30 yards. You’re going to, and the deer can water anytime within there and at night. That’s one a better camera, better emitters, better sensor, all
00:09:01:13 –> 00:09:02:03
That. And we sell the cheaper
00:09:02:03 –> 00:09:15:19
Ones. We do because there’s a demand for it. We, and there’s times, you know, and there’s other species like, I don’t know sheep that they water some at night, but they water more in the day. And if you on a sheep guzzler, you literally, your guzzler your thing is a two foot square. That’s where they’re coming. And
00:09:15:19 –> 00:09:16:06
You need to be close
00:09:16:12 –> 00:09:29:17
On those. And you’re gonna be close and you’re not gonna miss much there. No. But there’s other places, the majority of natural water sources that Yeah. You got a wet spot and it, it, you know, trickles down till it dries up or you know, it’s a pond or whatever.
00:09:30:26 –> 00:09:41:04
The other thing is the, the waters or the places where I had multiple cameras, I was really happy. I did have multiple cameras on ’em. Just, it was interesting.
00:09:41:04 –> 00:09:42:03
Like those longer, like
00:09:42:16 –> 00:10:05:28
The longer stuff or, and stuff. You mean? I, I had, you know, one that’s, you know, probably 20 foot, you know, area where water’s, you know, like a spring and I had a camera on both sides and there was, you know, some places where one camera got stuff the other one didn’t. Yeah. And so having multiple cameras set up on the same water in some cases was, was awesome. Yeah.
00:10:06:08 –> 00:10:08:00
You know, got stuff you could never have.
00:10:09:13 –> 00:10:46:23
You can never, I was running on water and my good friend of mine was running on the same water and for some reason, like his would quit taking pictures, like, and then he’d go get ’em set up again and, and then quit taking pictures again or, or just whatever. And anyway, we end the truck camera season, let’s call it. And he doesn’t get any of the deer that, you know what I mean? Yeah. And they’re, and they’re bucks that we’re interested and you know, we’re kind of running together, talking, sharing pictures, all that that you do with your friends. And we just happen to both be on this one anyway. And it just goes to show you, like, you just,
00:10:46:23 –> 00:10:47:25
You can miss stuff. You
00:10:47:25 –> 00:11:29:24
Miss stuff and you don’t know why. And, and some, there’s some, there’s one water. I mean, it’s year in and year out. I have the worst luck on, I, I had two cameras, one, you know, shut down. It wouldn’t take pics. The other one took picks nonstop for, until it was totally full in three days. Yeah. In three days. And I leave it for two weeks. And you know, I got so frustrated. I went and set up a third camera, changed out the other two, threw ’em in the bed of the truck. That’s it. They’re going in the garbage can or, or you know, as a dummy camera for somebody to steal and feel good about until they realize doesn’t even have a battery cartridge. You know what I mean? And so anyway, just, just stuff like that, just, you know, had cameras go up in flames, nothing.
00:11:29:27 –> 00:11:59:29
But the batteries were hardy. I mean, they were laying at the base of the post, but the camera was gone and all melted and just wrapped around the post, you know? Really? Yeah. You know. Wow. But anyway, I was just wondering, you know, we talked about some tips and tricks and, and like taking a picture, making it take pictures, watching the ratchet go up on the, on the counter, things like that. And just wondering if you had, now that you’re a very seasoned veteran right on the heels of the, of the season, if you have any tips and tricks from the John Peterson files?
00:12:00:21 –> 00:12:02:13
Yeah, I, I mean I think
00:12:02:27 –> 00:12:04:03
Nickel Moore go first class
00:12:04:06 –> 00:12:04:24
Nickel Moore
00:12:05:02 –> 00:12:05:29
And then checking
00:12:05:29 –> 00:12:06:07
Them.
00:12:07:09 –> 00:12:08:18
Tending to them. Yes.
00:12:09:03 –> 00:12:19:25
So, and I wouldn’t say, you know, and I, some places you film a lot of other people Yeah. Checking their cameras. And some of ’em were like, every other day
00:12:20:11 –> 00:12:21:29
Guys are in there every other day. Oh
00:12:21:29 –> 00:12:23:10
Yeah. You know, well,
00:12:23:10 –> 00:12:25:10
Just because you got six or eight dudes on there.
00:12:25:20 –> 00:12:34:28
Well, no, but I mean, the same guy would show up and show up and show up. Oh, okay. Maybe not that much, you know, but a lot. But a lot anyway. And at at least,
00:12:35:14 –> 00:12:37:04
Why was he doing that, you think? Well,
00:12:37:04 –> 00:12:39:00
Maybe he was camped out there for three day weekend.
00:12:39:04 –> 00:12:41:22
Maybe he had a significant maybe situation.
00:12:41:25 –> 00:12:52:11
Yeah. Something. I dunno, it was just like, I, this dude’s like here all the time. You, but I think, you know, at least every two weeks.
00:12:53:02 –> 00:12:53:11
Yeah.
00:12:53:18 –> 00:12:55:12
That’s what I would, I would say. But
00:12:56:02 –> 00:12:58:19
That’s what I like. I, I think if you can go every 10 days
00:12:59:02 –> 00:13:01:07
Yeah. And just change out, then
00:13:01:07 –> 00:13:12:05
You just pray. If you can’t make it back for three or four weeks, you just pray. Yeah. That there’s still taking picture. You walk up and it’s heavily filled, which is, but it’s still ratchet’s one, you’re, you’re grateful.
00:13:12:15 –> 00:13:28:16
I don’t know how the batteries, you know, work. I had some that were just interesting. Like same camera, similar number of pictures. And one, like the batteries would run down, you know, faster in a certain spot. I don’t, I don’t know, you know, why that is
00:13:28:16 –> 00:13:31:06
Or what, without, without taking loads of pictures. Yeah. Like not
00:13:31:06 –> 00:13:54:28
Getting filled up. Just as like, similar to another camera. And I don’t know if it’s, you know, just the way the environment was there or sun or what, I don’t, I don’t know. Or wind or I don’t know. Anyway, kind of interesting. So just checking. Like sometimes you think, oh, I’m totally safe, you know, my batteries are lasting three weeks easy. You know, but you might have a camera or two. That is a little bit there.
00:13:55:00 –> 00:14:02:25
So we did, you know, I pointed you to the Amazon specials. Did you notice a difference Battery brand?
00:14:04:11 –> 00:14:05:11
I, I didn’t.
00:14:05:26 –> 00:14:06:05
Okay.
00:14:07:12 –> 00:14:14:15
The Amazons were good. I did on some like that weren’t that brand. I also did a whole bunch of the Home Depot brand.
00:14:14:29 –> 00:14:15:07
Okay.
00:14:15:20 –> 00:14:20:27
And, and they were just generic. I did a whole bunch of the energizer and, and Duracell as well.
00:14:21:23 –> 00:14:27:00
It’s also short season. So many. Yeah. I remember the white, the whites. Yeah. You could run for a year or two.
00:14:27:05 –> 00:14:44:04
Yeah. Well, and I remember, but, but substantially better than I thought I was gonna do. I I’ve got 600 batteries that are still new in the package that I thought I would use. You know, you got plenty. Yeah. So, well luckily they’ve got like, supposedly a five year shelf life, but, well,
00:14:44:04 –> 00:14:49:05
Luckily your door knock all, all the door locks at your house always need batteries. Partial battery,
00:14:50:04 –> 00:14:52:23
Zip locks. So 50, they’re 50 percent’s. I keep
00:14:52:27 –> 00:14:55:04
’em around. I do. Yeah. They go in the door locks.
00:14:55:20 –> 00:15:51:04
So the other, the other thing I, I noticed back when you could run cameras year round, you know, especially in places where maybe elk and on the mountain, you’d, you’d camera, you’d do the hunting and you’d just leave ’em up through the rut and post rut. And I wouldn’t even go pick ’em up till the next year, may or June in places. And when you had good batteries, it was, it was a difference on how long they went through the winter before they totally died. Some of ’em would be taking pictures in the spring. ’cause in the middle of winter when you get three feet of snow, there’s like nothing, nothing. And a random squirrel coming by. But with the cold, you know, right now in the dead of summer, it’s all hot batteries. They’re not getting, the only thing that’s killing them is taking pictures. Yeah. That’s the only thing that’s draining them. But IIII would agree. When you’re doing these shorter bursts, anything you don’t notice that big a difference. But when you start getting colder temperatures used to, which really where we run cameras now, we can’t run ’em. So it doesn’t really matter.
00:15:52:23 –> 00:16:07:07
Cash, you know, you’re kind of a veteran at running these cameras and a whole different environment than we were in this year. Right. But I mean, what’s the go-to? What, what’s your routine look like and how did you do this year?
00:16:08:28 –> 00:16:35:17
Did good. I, I ran like the, like the Amazon batteries and stuff like that and a regular camera that was only taking pictures. But in any cell I would, my suggestion would be in any cell cam always use a quality battery. Like something that’s, that’s transmitting, like Yeah. Those, I did notice the, the cheaper batteries died significantly faster than, than a good battery, like a dura cell or something. So that
00:16:35:17 –> 00:16:36:27
Would be my You run solar on your,
00:16:37:09 –> 00:16:41:19
On your transmit? I, I didn’t this year, but I am 100% doing that next year.
00:16:41:26 –> 00:16:42:05
Yeah,
00:16:42:06 –> 00:16:49:16
Yeah. Yeah. Like I had to replace batteries two times on the cell cams. On a couple cell cams and
00:16:49:20 –> 00:16:50:24
Two to one over a regular.
00:16:50:25 –> 00:16:52:19
Yeah, over a regular. And yeah. And so, so
00:16:52:19 –> 00:16:55:21
Do you lean a little left Your big proponent of solar?
00:16:56:19 –> 00:16:57:17
Yeah. I’m just
00:16:57:17 –> 00:17:01:03
Teasing. I’m just teasing. Jason, I’m, I’m left. I have solar.
00:17:01:13 –> 00:17:01:19
I’m
00:17:01:19 –> 00:17:05:03
Lefthand that way. I have solar problem and it works. And it kills it by the way.
00:17:05:03 –> 00:17:05:18
Yeah, it does.
00:17:05:24 –> 00:17:11:19
Solar. He’s not a huge fan of all the entire landscape being filled with it. But anyway, just yeah. Just
00:17:12:00 –> 00:17:14:12
Yeah. I will, I will invest in a couple solar panels next
00:17:14:12 –> 00:17:15:29
Year. He’s not driving a Tesla truck. Jason.
00:17:16:12 –> 00:17:21:01
Hey laugh. You know, we’re all gonna do it one of these days.
00:17:22:13 –> 00:17:23:24
I refuse. Long as my, I refuse.
00:17:24:03 –> 00:17:29:18
As long as my Honda 2000 generator running in the bed of it can charge it as I drive, then I’ll be All right. There you go.
00:17:29:21 –> 00:17:33:29
Did you see the Tesla truck the other day that had solar panels on the roof? You know, no.
00:17:34:26 –> 00:17:36:23
Keeping the batteries topped off as
00:17:36:23 –> 00:17:37:28
I went. Yeah. Well I would just,
00:17:38:27 –> 00:17:57:23
Here’s, here’s my thought on, on those, on those electric vehicles, right. Thoughts by cash. An engine has an alternator. Right. I think that it’s all a, a sham, it’s a scam. ’cause you should be able to, with a moving vehicle, there’s gotta be some kind of alternator that can charge those Teslas as they run,
00:17:57:23 –> 00:18:00:01
Like have an alternator hooked to each week.
00:18:00:01 –> 00:18:01:05
Yeah. Like some kind something.
00:18:01:05 –> 00:18:02:29
So we have four alternatives. You could go forever jam in the battery.
00:18:03:08 –> 00:18:04:19
Freest does just keep it, do
00:18:04:19 –> 00:18:04:29
That. Yeah.
00:18:05:13 –> 00:18:06:11
I mean come on. Keeping it
00:18:06:11 –> 00:18:07:13
Topped off while you’re
00:18:07:13 –> 00:18:09:07
Moving. Yeah, exactly. No big deal.
00:18:09:07 –> 00:18:11:11
Tires are moving 75 miles an hour. Yeah.
00:18:11:11 –> 00:18:13:04
There’s something that can turn and charge your vehicle.
00:18:13:04 –> 00:18:13:15
And you gotta,
00:18:13:18 –> 00:18:20:06
So this is like back in the day, Bronson, when we were ridiculous when we had our little bikes and you had that little generator that runs the light.
00:18:20:09 –> 00:18:26:10
The light on the front. Yeah. Yes. That your rim, it would just touch the rim and they would turn it Yes. Inside of the rim and yeah.
00:18:27:26 –> 00:18:32:03
So interesting that Logan wants to talk about Prius. Go ahead. Oh,
00:18:32:04 –> 00:18:33:05
I’m a huge proponent.
00:18:33:17 –> 00:18:33:25
Have
00:18:33:25 –> 00:18:38:12
You ever gotten 70 miles to the gallon? You don’t feel like a man until you’ve gotten 70 miles to the gallon.
00:18:38:17 –> 00:18:42:12
Okay. Maybe a neutral down by Black Ridge. Okay. People do that all the time.
00:18:45:19 –> 00:18:51:16
That quote needs to live in infamy here. You don’t feel like a man until you’ve driven something that gets 70 miles a gallon.
00:18:51:16 –> 00:18:52:17
That’s right’s quote
00:18:52:17 –> 00:18:53:09
70 miles gallon
00:18:53:15 –> 00:19:00:19
Hog. I will tell you this, the 3.0 Durham X in the half, in the half ton. It’s no joke. 25 to 28 miles a gallon.
00:19:00:28 –> 00:19:01:18
That’s crazy.
00:19:01:26 –> 00:19:04:17
I’ll bet Shane Gillis doesn’t drive a Prius. Logan.
00:19:05:09 –> 00:19:09:13
I bet Shane Gillis doesn’t look half as good as me either with his own look.
00:19:09:29 –> 00:19:13:09
I don’t know. He’s trying to pull it off. I dunno, uncle, so go ahead,
00:19:13:18 –> 00:19:18:29
Go ahead. With the Prius, what do you got? They, they, they got a, where did you drive tornado on wheel. What
00:19:18:29 –> 00:19:35:07
Is it? I’d never driven a Prius. I had a buddy who had one and it was a hybrid and they would like, as the engine was going or as you were coasting down a hill, it had an alternator in the, in the drive line or the, I don’t know where it was, but as the tires would rotate, it would charge the, the other half of the
00:19:35:07 –> 00:19:37:22
Battery, the side of it. My mother-in-law’s car does that.
00:19:38:08 –> 00:19:39:23
My wife’s car does that too. It’s a
00:19:39:27 –> 00:19:40:17
Hybrid. It’s nice.
00:19:40:26 –> 00:19:47:15
It it is awesome. When you’re going downhill, it’ll charge battery up. Wow. Or every time you push on the brake, it charges battery.
00:19:48:00 –> 00:19:51:13
John, you got, so is that vehicle doing well for you? Yeah,
00:19:51:18 –> 00:19:53:25
It’s good. It’s Santa Fe Hyundai, Santa Fe. Well,
00:19:54:12 –> 00:19:58:29
I wouldn’t, I mean, I don’t wanna rely on, so, I mean that’s the thing I
00:19:58:29 –> 00:20:01:29
Like relying on the gas station, like those you gotta stop or drink anyway. Right?
00:20:02:09 –> 00:20:03:13
Yeah. Stop for a drink and
00:20:03:13 –> 00:20:03:29
Snack and
00:20:04:01 –> 00:20:08:22
Move off. I mean, Coke in a fresh, fresh pastry, I mean. Right.
00:20:09:08 –> 00:20:20:28
And those hybrids aren’t plugged in you. They’re gas. It’s just if you get a little extra turbo power or whatever out of the battery. Yeah. And around town when you’re going slower, it’s almost always on battery.
00:20:21:13 –> 00:20:24:22
John, did you figure out how important good tires were this year when you were
00:20:24:22 –> 00:20:33:21
Scouting? And I got my, got my use. So we’ve talked about it before and I am, I’m now off the Nito train. So anyway, I I they didn’t
00:20:33:21 –> 00:20:34:19
Go a hundred thousand. They,
00:20:34:19 –> 00:20:36:05
They went 20,000 miles.
00:20:36:23 –> 00:20:37:19
Honestly though, that’s what I always
00:20:37:19 –> 00:20:38:05
Get in one
00:20:38:05 –> 00:20:45:15
Year bronze. Am I I might be the only one. Huh? Yeah. Do you get better than about 20, 25,000? Yeah. I, I do. Okay. Well,
00:20:45:20 –> 00:20:45:27
But
00:20:46:15 –> 00:20:48:03
I’m rotating ’em every 5,000.
00:20:48:06 –> 00:20:59:24
Yeah. But, we’ll, we’ll see. I, I switched just went because of the 12 ply. I went the B-F-G-K-O threes. We’ll see how they do. They go more than one year and more than 20,000 miles.
00:21:00:09 –> 00:21:04:28
You got a F rated tire on that truck. Yeah. Holy cow. So that’s heavy
00:21:04:28 –> 00:21:08:10
Everything. I was You change a bunch of flats. Yeah. You’re gonna go over,
00:21:08:16 –> 00:21:11:05
I got Gs on a trailer. They’re like G rated.
00:21:11:14 –> 00:21:11:23
Jeez.
00:21:12:05 –> 00:21:12:13
Yeah.
00:21:12:19 –> 00:21:13:12
Yeah. They’re no joke.
00:21:13:18 –> 00:21:15:24
John even changed one of my tires for me. I did.
00:21:15:29 –> 00:21:16:21
Let’s tell this
00:21:16:21 –> 00:21:25:29
Story. Well, let’s, let’s talk about that. Because again, coming from a Prius guy, there was a reason John was needed. Big Prius guy. This doesn’t have a jack. Yes it does. Let me chat. GT p
00:21:26:06 –> 00:21:26:15
This
00:21:26:18 –> 00:21:29:25
Doesn’t have a handle. Yes it does. The handle.
00:21:30:07 –> 00:21:30:25
Do you know my dad?
00:21:31:17 –> 00:21:35:09
I just, I know this the truck you had had an amazing spare. Why Logan?
00:21:35:24 –> 00:21:41:21
Because the guy that owned it two owners ago must have put a great one on there. And Jason is reaping those rewards.
00:21:42:05 –> 00:21:44:04
I put an amazing spare on there. You
00:21:44:04 –> 00:21:44:21
Did. John was
00:21:45:01 –> 00:21:54:27
Grateful. Was blown away. Very grateful. So there you are, Logan, you’re out in the desert. You think you have, you, you, you start looking at your phone when you need to know how to change the tire. Right. John? He was looking at his
00:21:54:27 –> 00:21:59:17
Phone. No, he wasn’t there looking for YouTube. He was gone when I got there. Logan
00:21:59:21 –> 00:22:02:07
Was John, was he walking? Trying to hitchhike back to town.
00:22:02:07 –> 00:22:04:09
John was an motor motorcycle and
00:22:04:22 –> 00:22:07:04
I, I dumped out and went and did three cameras. Yeah.
00:22:07:23 –> 00:22:10:04
Waiting. I’ll be over there.
00:22:10:12 –> 00:22:15:25
So the only thing I had was a handyman jack or so I thought, and you can’t change a tire on a handyman Jack. I have.
00:22:16:06 –> 00:22:16:15
What
00:22:16:15 –> 00:22:16:21
Do you
00:22:16:21 –> 00:22:17:28
Mean? You can, you
00:22:17:28 –> 00:22:19:01
Can. That’s
00:22:19:01 –> 00:22:19:05
All
00:22:19:05 –> 00:22:20:07
We used to do. May not be
00:22:20:07 –> 00:22:25:29
Suggested. I lifted up the whole back end of the truck and the guys that drove by me were like, geez, you need a hand? And I’m like, no, I’m good.
00:22:26:12 –> 00:22:28:00
You crank, you, you crank on one of those truck
00:22:28:04 –> 00:22:33:05
Probably would run if I was you don’t, you know. Yeah. You never know what this is gonna tip over and kick out. And
00:22:33:28 –> 00:22:39:25
We did have, it was Sandy, it was bad. And I had to reposition the jack several times. ’cause it So
00:22:39:25 –> 00:22:41:01
How did you find the Jack John?
00:22:42:24 –> 00:22:48:29
Yeah. I just, you know, put in the year and the model served. Hey, where’s, where’s the jack on? There’s only so many places
00:22:49:03 –> 00:22:51:00
The Elon system did you
00:22:51:26 –> 00:22:56:10
Just, dang. Where is it on a, on a tundra. Sure enough. There it was.
00:22:56:22 –> 00:22:58:29
Anyway, so bf goody spirit under
00:22:58:29 –> 00:23:08:18
The backseat. Yeah. There’s lower so many places it can be hidden. I looked under and I’m like, oh, it’s a KO two, it’s gonna be good. So it, it was better than best spare
00:23:08:25 –> 00:23:10:24
The rest of the cameras on it. So yeah. It’s
00:23:10:24 –> 00:23:16:23
Good stuff. All right. So moving right along. Right. You have anything more to add on that? Grateful for your elders. I,
00:23:16:23 –> 00:23:18:17
I’m great. I’m grateful for John’s Chad. DPT
00:23:19:01 –> 00:23:19:10
Grateful for
00:23:19:10 –> 00:23:20:07
The elders. Yes, I am.
00:23:20:13 –> 00:23:24:06
It was interesting though. I have never seen a tire separate like that. The the side
00:23:24:16 –> 00:23:24:29
Itt puncture
00:23:25:01 –> 00:23:25:22
Sidewalk. Well it bubbled.
00:23:25:24 –> 00:23:29:07
Yeah. Yeah. The sidewalk bubbled, it rippled like, like a wave all the way around.
00:23:29:09 –> 00:23:41:29
And then when we got home you refilled it held air. No puncture. Come on. Yeah, dead serious. It was just, he, they warrantied it. He said it was a defective tire on the sidewall or whatever. Yeah. Brand new free tire said he’d never seen that before, which I don’t
00:23:41:29 –> 00:23:44:23
Know. Yeah. Kind of interesting. Hmm. I thought you meant aired it up. It
00:23:44:23 –> 00:23:48:27
Was fine. Like you, I’m just gonna use it like that won’t ever happen again to that tire. No,
00:23:49:02 –> 00:23:49:09
I’m
00:23:49:09 –> 00:23:50:05
Like whoa. It was a one off
00:23:50:05 –> 00:23:55:18
Deal. No, when you, when we aired it up, it looked like a cartoon tire. It blew up on the sidewall and like engulfed a wheel. Dang.
00:23:56:15 –> 00:23:56:24
I see.
00:23:58:03 –> 00:24:02:13
Kinda wild. All right, well let’s see. Where are we at now, Bronson?
00:24:03:00 –> 00:24:06:12
I dunno. John, did you have it open to this page and Mike? Well, to maybe highlight some
00:24:06:12 –> 00:24:32:24
People. Yeah. I just wanted to, to highlight, to get you pumped up for the hunting season. We’ve got a bunch of recently published hunt videos on our YouTube channel. So just go to YouTube, search Epic Outdoors and I mean, we’ve got multiple hunts from cash. We’ve got a hunt. Yeah. Cash. Devin, Josh has, has recent stuff.
00:24:33:05 –> 00:24:33:13
Huge
00:24:33:13 –> 00:24:35:27
John Adams. Anyway, lots of
00:24:36:00 –> 00:24:37:07
More and more coming Dear
00:24:37:12 –> 00:24:43:23
Elk. So yeah, we’ve got some pretty awesome stuff coming up from, from Justin and Jason
00:24:44:06 –> 00:24:49:12
Got the one talking about all the intricacies and dietary things about why everybody in the office quit Monster.
00:24:50:02 –> 00:24:51:04
Oh yeah. How’s
00:24:51:04 –> 00:24:52:01
That been going everybody?
00:24:52:25 –> 00:24:56:11
Yeah, I mean, I, I didn’t authorize that because Jason,
00:24:56:25 –> 00:25:01:09
If you go listen to that podcast, you need to go listen to it because I
00:25:01:14 –> 00:25:02:17
Gung ho I had yet tired
00:25:02:19 –> 00:25:08:06
When I listened to that thing and laughed. Okay. Because I’d already known you for two or three weeks after the podcast.
00:25:08:13 –> 00:25:15:27
Oh yeah, exactly. Yeah. You know, it’s funny, I, so when this came out, why we quit Monster, I’m like, it’s really bold state. I didn’t pick this. And we as not me,
00:25:17:21 –> 00:25:17:28
If
00:25:18:01 –> 00:25:22:17
You listen to the podcast, quitting Monster meant one or two a week. Not to a day
00:25:22:20 –> 00:25:25:01
Quit quitting. It should have said cutting down
00:25:25:08 –> 00:25:28:11
Or, or say, you know, hey cut the addiction,
00:25:28:20 –> 00:25:30:06
I’m, I’m not, not opposed.
00:25:30:06 –> 00:25:30:29
Moderation and all
00:25:30:29 –> 00:25:33:21
Trimming into a little click bait. Never hurt anybody.
00:25:35:17 –> 00:25:39:04
I was like, that’s news to me. I I did not agree to that.
00:25:40:14 –> 00:25:49:19
Yeah, I I think it was great if, if you listen to that. The funny thing is how many comments we got about how funny the episode was, which I didn’t think it was a funny episode. That one.
00:25:49:21 –> 00:25:52:19
Yeah. The the per the, the, the, the fasting.
00:25:53:00 –> 00:25:54:19
What was it? I thought it was a good episode.
00:25:54:25 –> 00:25:56:13
So really, I mean just people
00:25:56:13 –> 00:25:59:24
Are like, I don’t know, funny. I just think it was interesting. So funny. He had a lot of like, and I
00:26:00:15 –> 00:26:05:09
Of knowledge some of the stuff in it, but people thought it was funny. And then yeah, afterwards
00:26:05:09 –> 00:26:08:10
Mike McLean of Apex. I thought he was pretty knowledgeable guy.
00:26:08:10 –> 00:26:18:18
Yeah, pretty knowledgeable. The interesting thing I did, Logan and I did the five day fast and interestingly like I lost some weight and all that. But the,
00:26:18:21 –> 00:26:19:12
But most of it was
00:26:19:15 –> 00:26:29:25
The craziest thing was after going back on is the difference. And I noticed how like the inflammation, like in my hands and feet and stuff you noticed and I’m like, well it came
00:26:29:25 –> 00:26:30:17
Back. What do you mean?
00:26:30:26 –> 00:26:37:13
Well just, I, I think I’ve just living with it forever and then you go and you don’t have it a week without any, you’re like, this
00:26:37:13 –> 00:26:39:07
Is weird. So you didn’t have any inflammation?
00:26:39:14 –> 00:26:39:28
No, none.
00:26:40:02 –> 00:26:51:09
You almost have a hard time wanting to eat food and, or at least for me, I’m like, you know, I just kind of wanna eat one meal a day. ’cause I feel good in that fast state. And then when you, when you eat too much food, you can just feel it. Especially after you’ve been
00:26:51:09 –> 00:26:54:12
Empty for five days. Did somebody, one of you guys have a box of saltines when you got done?
00:26:55:06 –> 00:26:58:25
I, I probably shotgun the sleeve of Saltines and two bites.
00:26:59:25 –> 00:27:00:05
It was
00:27:00:27 –> 00:27:04:09
Fan better have some water handy that’ll choke and kill a guy. Yeah,
00:27:04:24 –> 00:27:20:22
It awesome, awesome. Yeah. Now I think I’m just gonna try to figure out how to eat normal but not normal, but tweak it. So just have less inflammation. You know, I, I know some people had good luck on the carnivore diet doing that and doing some fasting. I dunno, I’m gonna try some stuff.
00:27:21:00 –> 00:27:26:01
I can’t remember who was all in there, but I know Wyatt, when I was in there, we just listened a lot, didn’t we Wyatt? Yeah,
00:27:26:14 –> 00:27:29:17
We, we just didn’t commit to no fast. Well
00:27:29:18 –> 00:27:30:22
You guys had some trips. You
00:27:30:22 –> 00:27:36:21
Were We had, we had some trips and I, I didn’t need, I didn’t need, yeah I didn’t need to get run down and then take off. Did
00:27:36:21 –> 00:27:40:22
You guys want to expound on those trips, how they went? Well just a bri a brief highlight or
00:27:41:14 –> 00:27:53:11
Well, I, I feel a little guilty ’cause I came in here when I come back Tuesday back to work and I just shaking my head about how, I don’t know how a trip could have gone better and then I had to
00:27:54:02 –> 00:27:55:00
Endure. No.
00:27:55:03 –> 00:28:19:12
And then I had to the stories to remember. Yeah. Oh, why Devin had some stories and so I, anyway, I guess tell the two, tell the two different hunts basically. One just pretty much son and I had a, you can’t say it could go any better flawless amazing trip and you guys is, you killed the animals you wanted, but it had a lot of, a lot of F floss I guess. Yeah. A lot of, a lot of other things that went on. Just weather mostly things
00:28:19:12 –> 00:28:27:04
Beyond control that Devin’s not here. Wyatt, we could talk a few about a few things, but then we could also have Devin have the mic when he
00:28:27:04 –> 00:28:27:10
Gets back.
00:28:27:27 –> 00:28:32:29
Yeah. I think we wait for Devin to chat about a few of these things. Stories will just be so much better.
00:28:33:09 –> 00:28:37:10
Yeah, exactly. Devon explaining something in his way is, there’s only
00:28:37:12 –> 00:28:47:23
One way to put it. If there’s only one way. There’s only one way. Yeah. And there may or may not be a few texts that can substantiate. I I yeah, but I don’t, yeah, I’m not sure that they’re
00:28:48:11 –> 00:28:49:23
Podcast. Well
00:28:49:23 –> 00:28:53:28
Prob no, I mean they’re nothing foul at all. Just Yeah. But, but, but some
00:28:54:00 –> 00:28:55:16
G personal, some gratitude, very
00:28:55:19 –> 00:29:06:17
Personal was expressed. Yeah. Very, very, very much so. It’s awesome. So your trip, your BC sheep would love to have a visit with Ty about it too. Try so, I hate to say too much about it, but anyway.
00:29:06:17 –> 00:29:25:23
Yeah, maybe we’ll try early next week before we get bow hunting or something like that. Same with Devin. When he gets feeling better, I think he, yeah, he needs to be here. Okay. Keep white straight and he and white can keep him straight when the per two perspectives, you know. But yeah, it was fun. It was amazing. All
00:29:25:23 –> 00:29:25:27
Right.
00:29:26:18 –> 00:29:33:17
But I don’t know what else is going on. Why it’s on the front burner I guess, but that we’ve kind of covered it. Yeah. Just as far as
00:29:34:14 –> 00:29:39:07
Getting ready for, for more hunts coming up. That’s about the biggest thing happening here at the office. I think.
00:29:39:29 –> 00:30:02:07
Frustrating. Trying to deal with the lower 48. As you guys know, you can go north and have good trips even though it was challenging and there was some logistical issues. Mostly weather. Yeah. Logistic stuff and weather and some, you know, you know, things that just are outta your control. But, but anyway, and then down here it’s just hard. There’s a lot of wildfires. Oh yeah. A lot of dry conditions. Very competitive. Western big game is, is is tough. You know,
00:30:02:13 –> 00:30:05:27
Scarcer resource. Yeah. A little bit. Yeah. So they are still everybody after that.
00:30:06:17 –> 00:30:06:25
Yeah.
00:30:07:09 –> 00:30:25:29
You know, so yeah. It’s gonna be interesting to see some of these fires. I think I’ve already heard seen Utah and some of this big Monroe fire make some concessions or announcements, whatever about people with tags there. But not seen that with Arizona on the Kiba. In fact, we, we sought further light knowledge from them yesterday.
00:30:25:29 –> 00:30:29:22
Well I mean we called, I called down there at the office and said, Hey, you know, is there gonna be any
00:30:29:29 –> 00:30:31:22
Kiba hunt? What start three week, two, three
00:30:31:22 –> 00:30:38:29
Weeks? Yeah, there’s yeah. 22nd if I remember right. So anyway, I was like, hey, you know, what would we do with the Kaibab archery is a forest to shut down.
00:30:39:02 –> 00:30:40:09
You can’t even step on, you
00:30:40:09 –> 00:30:41:09
Know, and there just, so that’s the point.
00:30:41:13 –> 00:30:41:27
Did you do point
00:30:41:27 –> 00:30:43:13
Guard? Yeah. That’s what point guard’s for
00:30:43:19 –> 00:30:44:15
275.
00:30:44:15 –> 00:30:54:16
You know, and I don’t have a Kaibab tag. I was just wondering like for guys that are out in the wide world that have the tag and you don’t, you, you know, point guard, you kind of like cherish that ’cause you get a one one point guard per tag.
00:30:54:19 –> 00:30:57:00
Like well, yeah. What about, what about someone that’s used at
00:30:57:15 –> 00:30:58:21
Yes, that’s my point, point, point. If you
00:30:58:21 –> 00:31:02:11
Used your point guard three, four years ago and then now you can’t even go on the,
00:31:02:24 –> 00:31:04:21
You know, that’s just partly your fault.
00:31:04:24 –> 00:31:05:21
Go hunt the desert, you know?
00:31:05:21 –> 00:31:10:22
Yeah. Or go. Yeah. Or, or not, or I don’t know. Just pray for rain and maybe it opens up. Go
00:31:10:22 –> 00:31:17:04
Hunt the ponds border. W buckskin mountain. Yeah. Because you can hunt 12 beat out there in the Cedars in 110 degree
00:31:17:04 –> 00:31:28:04
Heat. Yeah. Because there’s so many deer down there. Yeah. I mean it’s just, anyway, so it’s just interesting the difference in attitude state to state Utah is having special meetings and, and working with people.
00:31:28:05 –> 00:31:59:13
Well, we’ve seen that a lot of other states. Colorado, Wyoming did it last year in what unit? 38 I think it was. Right, right. They allowed people, you, you know, you’re gonna deal with some closures. We give you the option to turn it back and get your points back or, or roll it. I don’t, I think they just rolled them. I can’t remember why, but, and then they actually cut the tags this year in the draw because there’s gonna be that many more people this year. But I don’t, I don’t know. It’s gonna be in an ain I can’t see, I didn’t see it on the agenda for, is it tomorrow? Tomorrow? Last commission meeting tomorrow? I didn’t see it. But you figured that would be a
00:31:59:24 –> 00:32:00:22
Ratify some seasons.
00:32:01:06 –> 00:32:10:06
It’s pretty big deal. I mean it’s probably the most sought after archery deer other than the strip tags. You know, it’s a, it’s a significant, it is popular Chiba
00:32:10:07 –> 00:32:12:13
2 75 people are affected. Yeah.
00:32:13:14 –> 00:32:17:19
Can’t even set foot on it. And I don’t know if the highway’s open yet. Is it, is
00:32:17:19 –> 00:32:19:03
It bad for me, me to say that
00:32:20:09 –> 00:32:21:17
Saving some deer? Yeah.
00:32:21:18 –> 00:32:21:28
You know,
00:32:23:11 –> 00:32:24:07
I knew what you think.
00:32:24:13 –> 00:32:30:16
Just, just, you know, hey, if you, but, but maybe some deer got burned up and so it’s really a zero sum game. Yeah,
00:32:30:16 –> 00:32:44:09
Maybe I probably some fawns. But I mean, there’s one way to look at it. If, if it, if you have those 275 people, they’re not gonna kill hardly any deer. Maybe the dirty rifles and the rifle hunt’s up there might be awesome. Know,
00:32:44:09 –> 00:33:12:03
You know, what we’re also seeing is you guys alerted me to the fire there in, in Colorado Unit 61. Yeah. I mean just places like that, that you’re like, wow. Yeah. You know, as, as we’re concentrating on the stuff that’s right here next to home, there’s also plenty of other things going on that are being affecting people. And so anyway, that 12 eight East, I mean they stopped it looked like right there. Clear at the, the highway. But yeah. But it’s also, like Wyatt was saying yesterday, wrapping around to 12 eight West side
00:33:13:08 –> 00:33:17:28
Pretty much to the desert floor in the south end of house Rock Valley. I mean it,
00:33:18:20 –> 00:33:19:25
Well, I mean it’s torched everything.
00:33:19:25 –> 00:33:21:16
It burnt, it burnt to the floor.
00:33:21:21 –> 00:33:43:12
But then I’m, I’m interested to know like what you guys think. We saw a few photos of wildlife out in the, in the moonscape. Yeah. Here in Utah. Like do you a, do you think the animals get smoked and torched B, do they walk around it and stay in the burn? Does it make hunting better for the guys that are willing to stick it out? I mean, what do you guys think? Wyatt? Maybe. What do you think?
00:33:44:04 –> 00:33:55:29
I feel like it definitely opens it up so you know, animals are more vulnerable or glassful kind of scenario. And I think a lot of it depends on moisture after. I mean if that stuff greens up and those deer get on feed pretty quick, I think it’s still just fine. But
00:33:56:03 –> 00:34:00:27
Even the little green chutes of grass, even though they’re a browser, it’s still Oh, love it.
00:34:01:17 –> 00:34:12:12
Yeah. But I feel like if the, which just stays dry like it is, they’re gonna have to go somewhere else for, for good feed or maybe find pockets within those burns that, that does have the feed or carry the feed.
00:34:12:21 –> 00:34:30:21
Yeah. Yeah. I remember the big fire years ago there in, in Arizona unit one and some of that country and the people still, they had little bits of green feed. Well it’s talking about standing dead timber. They felt like they were forest, but you could see ’em kind of
00:34:30:21 –> 00:34:40:29
Opened up. We’ve seen a lot elk especially they go to the north slope and dark timber and they’re standing skeleton trees and they think they’re hidden just like they always have been. Yeah. And they stick out. Like he, Jason says a yellow school bus.
00:34:41:05 –> 00:34:49:10
Yeah, well if they’re really bright yellow, it seems like those are the younger poles, right? Doesn’t it Wyatt, that really, do you want bright white blondies?
00:34:49:11 –> 00:34:50:11
Yeah, you want a big white,
00:34:50:11 –> 00:34:51:23
They’re usually no, you want blonde
00:34:52:03 –> 00:34:52:13
Piece
00:34:52:13 –> 00:34:53:09
Of little bit darker,
00:34:53:26 –> 00:34:54:11
Dirtier
00:34:54:11 –> 00:35:01:27
Looking a little dark. Yeah. Anyway, it is kind of interesting how that, how that works and how,
00:35:01:27 –> 00:35:32:17
Yeah, we definitely could use a monsoon push here. It’s been delayed this year. It kind of, we thought mid July we got a little bit of flirted with it for a week or two around 4th of July and a little bit later. But then it hasn’t been nothing. So we, we need it to kick in all these southwestern states just to curb the, the fire danger, but also just yeah. Conditions in general. Just it’s, it’s sucked. These mountain ranges are dry right now. Yeah. Really dry. So we need, we need it for sure. We,
00:35:32:28 –> 00:35:33:24
I do think I saw
00:35:35:00 –> 00:35:35:09
Like
00:35:35:13 –> 00:35:36:12
Weaker backends
00:35:36:21 –> 00:35:42:00
On, on more bulls than normal on mitral cameras. One thing I
00:35:42:03 –> 00:35:48:03
Strong front ends, one thing I want to add in just my opinion Yeah. Is the unit you’re in,
00:35:48:05 –> 00:35:49:07
It’s prone to that. It’s known for
00:35:49:18 –> 00:35:50:07
Pro for genetics.
00:35:50:07 –> 00:35:50:21
Yeah. I was like
00:35:50:24 –> 00:35:51:18
The genetics giant
00:35:51:21 –> 00:35:55:18
Five stuff. Huh? Front ends, giant fives. Yeah.
00:35:56:13 –> 00:36:02:13
Actually in Nevada it seems like pretty strong, pretty good solid year for elk. Yeah. I just think where you’re at,
00:36:02:21 –> 00:36:11:18
So yeah. Not known for back ends. Oh yeah. That are giant. Yeah. Yeah. Not, I mean compared to the front ends, I’m like holy cow, the front ends are just under,
00:36:11:25 –> 00:36:15:10
I mean there’s a five by eight right here, that’s 4 34, you know what I mean? Yeah.
00:36:15:18 –> 00:36:15:24
Wow.
00:36:16:02 –> 00:36:16:29
Right. Where Jason? Yeah.
00:36:17:03 –> 00:36:23:04
Oh, outside of our office. Office here. Office hanging on the wall. Okay. Out here. I was like, you meant
00:36:23:07 –> 00:36:24:09
From that pile of beat
00:36:24:09 –> 00:36:24:16
Thought
00:36:24:16 –> 00:36:25:15
You meant just right north of town.
00:36:26:23 –> 00:36:29:22
Well, and that we’d have to ask cash about that. Cash. You got anything Vic?
00:36:31:16 –> 00:36:36:16
I played the fifth. Any five points that run four 30. Not that. No.
00:36:36:22 –> 00:36:37:05
Anyway,
00:36:38:10 –> 00:37:05:15
So Yeah, but you’re right, it does, does make you wonder. It definitely can have an effect. So yeah. All right. Well, I don’t know. I can’t think of anything else. Like whyt, we’re expecting some, you know, decent bucks around maybe, maybe not in our state, but surrounding states, of course we’ve got Colorado, you know, some Turnback tags. Everybody’s excited about that. See if that pans out, you know, getting tags. I’d like to get a tag off that.
00:37:05:20 –> 00:37:26:24
It’d be interesting to see what happens like in Wyoming and Idaho this year, you know, to, you know, Wyoming drilling one more year post, post 23 winter. So see what that’s gonna look like. I think I can be a good year to have a tag up there because from what it’s looking like from Deere standpoint, southwestern state, Utah, Nevada, Arizona are gonna be, gonna be tough.
00:37:27:07 –> 00:38:20:12
But a lot of people are looking to get some gear right now, of course. ’cause we’re dealing with the optics. I’m, we’re out glassing like crazy. Videoing not daily. Feels like, feels like it’s a little harder to find something to video right now, but anyway, working at it. But anyway, as you’re getting gear, if you’re buying anything optic wise or say a cv, CVA Muzz loader or a fierce firearm or whatever, definitely consider us here at Epic Outdoors. We have the best pricing in the industry. Hands down, when you go to our website, it’s been a little bit of a struggle. Normally you’d have to log in to your, is it shop or Shopify? Shopify. Okay. So you’re log into your Shopify, but some guys are not realizing, they think they’re logging into Epic outdoors. And that, that, that’s our dealer pricing. It’s actually, or it’s actually, excuse me, it actually is dealer pricing of, of what’s legal to advertise.
00:38:20:14 –> 00:39:19:03
But member discounts are much better than that. Like hundreds of dollars better than that. And so if you’re seeing a price on there that you feel like is at a common price out in the world, you’re probably not logged in correctly. So you’re welcome to call us. We’re actually working on that. We’re gonna have all that squared away, but, but call us and we have the industry’s best pricing for members Epic members. And so please give us a holler at 4 3 5 2 6 3 0 7 7 7. Happy to visit with you, shoot you pricing. We have most everything in stock and so, you know, just, just consider that. You could obviously email us [email protected]. So optics with an asset, epic outdoors.com. If you don’t want to call sometimes it’s a little bit tougher for guys to initiate a phone call on actual physical phone call. Happy to just, you know, shoot you a price if you drop us an email and, and just know that there’s, it’s, it’s kind of a two-part system on our website.
00:39:19:06 –> 00:39:56:17
We have the web Epic Outdoors member website where you would get your drawing odds and all of the kind of things that you can’t just get by searching the internet. You know, it would be for members only. And then we also have the store side that you can buy at, at the regular advertised price that you could get it off Amazon or some other place. But there is a member’s portal, so to speak, through the Shopify account. But, but having said that, email, phone, whatever, if you’re seeing what you think is a common price, you’re probably just not seeing the member discounted price. John, do you have anything to add
00:39:56:17 –> 00:40:10:23
On that? No, I think, yeah, and I think we’re going to have some, some upgrades and some changes and and whatnot on that. So stay tuned. Stay tuned the next week, a couple weeks on that. Yeah, we, we’ve, we’ve got really, really good pricing, so
00:40:10:29 –> 00:40:12:06
Just wanna make it simple for
00:40:12:06 –> 00:40:26:24
People. The the other thing is like what it is, if you ever have a question, just give us a call. We’re here. I mean, it’s kind of uncommon now, like to not go to a website and be pushed to a chat bot, you know, that’s just, you know, you talking
00:40:27:02 –> 00:40:27:11
Help
00:40:27:11 –> 00:40:53:18
With Yeah. You know, and that’s, that’s not the case. If you’ve got a question between, hey, I’m looking at, at the ua, you know, 12 power versus 14 power. Like you can talk to a real person that’ll say, here’s what the difference is. What’s, what’s your specific situation? What hunts do you have coming up? And, and will help you actually find the perfect piece of gear for the specific use that you’re gonna be using. Yeah.
00:40:53:25 –> 00:41:11:27
How much do you use, how much do you come out west or do you live out west and or do you come out west once every other year? John, speaking to that twelves versus 14 peers. Yeah, just the first scoutings, well, full season started off scouting with the fourteens. What’s your beneficial on
00:41:11:27 –> 00:41:36:27
Those? Yeah, I was, I was sitting behind the fourteens, let’s see, yesterday morning. And they’re phenomenal. And I think, I don’t know, like percentage wise, like hunters in general, like how much time they spend behind glass, but I know we do, and probably western hunters more than other people just, you know, put ’em on a tripod, sit and look and look for hours. But the fourteens, they were, they were amazing.
00:41:37:15 –> 00:41:40:10
Second follow up question, what did you, did you see it there?
00:41:41:00 –> 00:41:45:12
I I told you we’re, we’re entering the secrecy period. Sound like
00:41:45:21 –> 00:41:46:17
You sound like cash.
00:41:47:17 –> 00:41:48:01
There’s,
00:41:48:01 –> 00:41:49:12
There’s a reason, right John?
00:41:49:15 –> 00:42:06:29
Yeah. There’s reasons. There’s reasons. Alright. Well also that our tripod Logan, I think we’ve got just a few comments that have been recently submitted. Maybe read a couple of those. I I wanna highlight this because I’m a huge believer in this head in, in our tripod head, in our tripod. Well, quite
00:42:06:29 –> 00:42:27:17
Frankly, I’m a huge believer in buying gear that will affect whether you see an animal or not. A lot of times Adam and I are talking to guys saying, I don’t think having this little bit better rifle scope would cost you an animal. Like there’s some things like that. Like if you were gonna save a few bucks, save it here, but not here. Yeah. I don’t think you should save money on a tripod. However, these
00:42:27:17 –> 00:42:28:01
Are cheaper than
00:42:28:18 –> 00:42:29:07
These are anywhere else.
00:42:29:13 –> 00:42:32:18
Yeah. It just because we want, we’ve got ’em manufactured for us
00:42:32:18 –> 00:42:53:12
Direct. And how about the simple guy that was asking me yesterday is super good dude, but like, well how durable are they? Well, how, how do you quantify durability? I was like, well, I don’t know. I haven’t hung 15,000 pounds from it sideways. Like I’m just, I I’m just, I’m trying to think. Like I used it for an entire year. So this is daily in the fall. Yes. You know what I’m saying? Could I
00:42:53:12 –> 00:42:57:00
Extend the tripod leg and and use it as a cheetah bar on a handyman jet? Yeah.
00:42:57:06 –> 00:43:02:18
I mean he’s, you, you could, if you were lifting a bike. Okay, now if you’re lifting Logan’s truck, maybe not
00:43:03:12 –> 00:43:04:09
The Prius, no problem.
00:43:05:01 –> 00:43:15:28
The Prius no problem. A one ton might have a problem. And so we’re just, anyway. But having said that, they they’re amazing or we wouldn’t use em like we can. Yeah. You know what I’m, it, it just,
00:43:16:02 –> 00:43:17:00
We’d use whatever we wanted.
00:43:17:14 –> 00:43:20:06
We don’t make just everything. Like what does Epic make personally? Yeah. Like
00:43:20:09 –> 00:43:24:17
It’s not, and that’s the reason we did it. Just did build exactly what we wanted to.
00:43:24:17 –> 00:43:33:17
Well what I was doing is buying and you guys did it too. We bought lakes and then we bought a separate head head and it was like, got tired of it. Now here’s the combo and we love them both
00:43:33:17 –> 00:43:40:27
And then we’re taking a hacksaw to ’em and modifying ’em and then Yeah. You know, that kind of stuff. Just so it, it’s, it’s nice to be able to hack
00:43:40:27 –> 00:43:42:18
Saw, saw all Yeah. Yeah.
00:43:43:00 –> 00:44:03:29
Saw all to build exactly what we wanted. And Jason’s, we, we had like a little field test when the, when the Zeiss fifties came out and Jason pulled his out. I’m telling you, it’s battle worn. What James? The tripod. The tripod. Ours? No, his tripod is battle worn. It’s got, it’s a nice, and it, it still works great. Grabbing it
00:44:05:15 –> 00:44:07:12
Children doing predator control
00:44:08:01 –> 00:44:08:07
Day,
00:44:08:14 –> 00:44:08:24
Night,
00:44:08:26 –> 00:44:27:27
Day and night. And I mean, it’s just throw it the back of the truck. Abuse. Yes. Like literally they throw it in the back of the truck. Okay. I’m not gonna tell you which kid, but I go and I find tripods laying out in the sun, dirt, dust laying against the side of a building and you’re just like, and it’s
00:44:28:09 –> 00:44:29:03
Baking hot,
00:44:29:13 –> 00:44:48:17
You know? And when I was, when I was was young, you were taught that, you know, dust and dirt and grime cost away things to not work stuff away. Yeah. And so anyway, but no, ours continue to work. What do you say? I it never quit working. Oh, works still. Butter smooth works. Awesome. Yeah. I don’t know how, anyway, I guess maybe the, this equipment’s getting better.
00:44:49:07 –> 00:44:51:10
Yeah. Logan give us a couple of these guys,
00:44:52:00 –> 00:44:56:11
A couple of guys that bought the Ultra QR combo recently. We’re pretty happy with them. Quick
00:44:56:11 –> 00:44:57:15
Release is qr, right?
00:44:57:15 –> 00:45:23:16
Yeah. Yep. Quick release. The, the new head that you can swap out optics pretty fast on it. Mike said, best tripod I ever used. Wade said best tripod and head combo that I’ve used. No doubt. Very impressed with the smoothness of the head. Somebody named KRL said awesome tripod. The ultra QR has a super smooth panhead. It’s also easy and quiet to set up and amazingly stable. I’m not sure what else you can ask for. What
00:45:23:16 –> 00:45:24:09
Else could you ask for?
00:45:25:08 –> 00:45:30:11
Oh, I think that QE we outta the QR was, that’s what we, I’ve
00:45:30:11 –> 00:45:35:22
Thought about adding $500 to to, to the tripod because people are like, okay, so I’m spinning over a grand.
00:45:35:22 –> 00:45:39:29
Well that’s probably why they’re asking you how durable it is. It’s cheap, cheaper. It’s half the price of something else.
00:45:40:00 –> 00:46:05:09
But if I’m gonna have to buy three of ’em and the price of I get one over here at Gomer piles shop is this, you know, does this make sense? And it’s just, I don’t know what else to say. I guess I, I mean I, I will tell you, I, I can’t explain the abuse that some of my stuff’s been through. And it is because we’ve got the gun clamp, the epic gun clamp, and we are predator hunting off of it. And it is being treated like predator hunting gear. Do you guys know trappers and predator hunters? Do you guys
00:46:05:18 –> 00:46:06:00
Hounds,
00:46:06:16 –> 00:46:09:13
How hounds, do you think they’re easy on their gifts?
00:46:11:17 –> 00:46:17:10
Well I, we know certain hounds men in this town pretty well. His, his vehicle, his truck man.
00:46:17:19 –> 00:46:17:25
Oh,
00:46:18:27 –> 00:46:22:04
I mean there’s nobody harder. Yeah. I would, I would dare put against you’re
00:46:22:04 –> 00:46:25:18
Welding to anybody you welding frames you’d weld and changing out engines,
00:46:25:26 –> 00:46:30:12
Transmissions, weld they’ve seen seen a thing or two, that’s for sure. Yeah, exactly.
00:46:30:25 –> 00:46:32:19
One of my favorite Anyway. Yeah.
00:46:33:22 –> 00:46:34:03
Can’t
00:46:34:08 –> 00:46:54:29
Story hors Josh hors and watching him go through trucks and I mean stepping on it. We and I, and I hate to anybody who’s been with him knows what I’m saying. He’s a dear friend. He’s such an amazing, awesome person. So anyway, it’s kind of fun and he would have a good laugh with it. We should call him on a podcast one of these times again. But anyway, just, I just remember we were trying to get up a hill
00:46:55:14 –> 00:46:56:09
In snow, if I
00:46:56:15 –> 00:47:15:29
Remember right in snow and it was like four low or whatever and it was, it has a governor, like 6,500 RPMs Katie. And it would hit the governor and he just hammered down and kept it down. And so it hit the governor, come down, he would go hammer down. Never stepped off the gas. Never stepped off the gas
00:47:17:07 –> 00:47:18:03
And four low.
00:47:18:13 –> 00:47:36:06
Yeah. Yeah. Just, you know, just, ah, looking over at me, big old smile. We were having a great time. I mean just wow. These extended warranties for a reason. And it was, it was, it was amazing. It paid for itself multiple times. But anyway, off we go. Are we good?
00:47:36:13 –> 00:47:41:19
Yeah. I would say on this tripod, our biggest mistake was not the pricing it at double, you
00:47:41:19 –> 00:47:42:01
Know what it is?
00:47:42:15 –> 00:47:55:06
It’s on me. If you want the max, the max combo’s what? 600 bucks? It’s five point 99. Yeah. The Ultra, which is the one we came out with, which is still the same height, it’s just not quite as beefy. Yeah. Was what like it’s 4 9, 9
00:47:55:24 –> 00:48:07:28
A pound lighter, but more of an all around if you Yeah. Some people they did all, some people gone with the max. Yeah. And they figure what’s a pound of my pack? Nothing on a day pack from some people, but most of us use the ultra
00:48:08:01 –> 00:48:23:07
And when we talk about mixing and matching the legs and the heads, the one thing I have had people is want the light legs that Adam, we would take sheep hunting or do something like that with the more, a little bit more beefy head, the head that comes on the ultra max. Yeah. I have had guys add those two together. Do
00:48:23:07 –> 00:48:23:28
Those two together. Yeah.
00:48:23:28 –> 00:48:27:00
Versus the light legs, light head. Yeah. You know,
00:48:27:16 –> 00:48:28:15
And I would say the head,
00:48:28:15 –> 00:48:33:01
The head, the head’s, it’s like, it’s kind of like the action of a gun or it’s just Yeah.
00:48:34:00 –> 00:48:35:06
That’s the guts. It’s
00:48:35:06 –> 00:48:35:27
The guts that
00:48:35:27 –> 00:48:44:05
You of it Yeah. You that you, your steadiness, your stability, your Yeah. Your pan pan ability, whether you’re, you know, depending on how you personally light the glass,
00:48:44:22 –> 00:48:47:28
The light’s amazing. It’s just, yeah. It’s just not
00:48:47:28 –> 00:48:49:05
Quite, it’s just made, made for lightweight.
00:48:49:05 –> 00:48:49:13
Yeah.
00:48:49:17 –> 00:48:51:07
Just only use it on certain hunts. Yeah.
00:48:51:13 –> 00:49:17:12
And I, I mean, I think, and what, what we spent the most time on development and r and d on is parts you don’t see is on the interior making the thing as smooth as possible, and it’s butter smooth right now. So you know if when you’re, when you’re looking at something, especially long distance, you get it in your spotting scope and it moves, you know, 10 yards like every other tripod I have jumps and you know, you have to relocate this animal. This one is,
00:49:17:19 –> 00:49:24:18
You know what I find is you don’t know. You don’t remember how much it jumps because you were so used to it
00:49:24:18 –> 00:49:26:12
Back then. What I, what I was gonna say is
00:49:26:19 –> 00:49:26:25
Yes,
00:49:28:11 –> 00:49:30:04
Look, the head me and you use some,
00:49:30:09 –> 00:49:30:28
Okay. Yeah.
00:49:31:15 –> 00:49:33:21
You know, yeah. We should go back and try it right now.
00:49:33:23 –> 00:49:35:22
Let’s call it is what it is. 700 Rrc two.
00:49:37:13 –> 00:49:37:19
I mean,
00:49:38:15 –> 00:49:42:00
There was not a better head. We liked it. Yeah, I put ’em on everything.
00:49:42:21 –> 00:49:43:21
Should go try that.
00:49:44:08 –> 00:49:44:17
It’s
00:49:44:22 –> 00:50:18:07
Probably Jan. All right. All right, well good. If you need any gear, call us. (435) 263-0777. Sure. Appreciate everybody out there. Good luck on these hunts. We’re gonna have more stories for you here coming up, as well as our own personal here, here at Epic and some of the we’ll recap on Wyatt and Devon, as well as Adam and his boy, and then crank Forward. Talk to some members who’ve been successful last year, 2024. Again, that was a really popular podcast. People liked it. The Nevada Elk and all that, and so I think any of the stories that we can get.
00:50:18:09 –> 00:50:20:16
Oh, that one. Yeah. And then the, the deer.
00:50:21:14 –> 00:50:26:04
Yeah. Yeah. That was good too. I mean, you know. Yes. Any of the stories, Arthur Deer, all of that, and
00:50:26:04 –> 00:50:39:05
Wife. Those are, well, it’s just the time of year you wanna hear hunt stories, it’s kinda like, yeah, yeah. Get me amped up. Get me, you know, ready to go. That’s right. Maybe have an intro song next time, next week before the bow hunts. That’s a little highlight reel,
00:50:39:05 –> 00:50:40:24
Huh? That’s right. We’ll find a good hype song.
00:50:41:10 –> 00:50:51:07
I wouldn’t mind. You know, people always say it’s, it’s taboo to post stuff before you kill it, but it would be kind of fun to put out a competition on what was scouted this week.
00:50:51:28 –> 00:50:52:12
Oh yeah.
00:50:53:14 –> 00:51:05:21
You know, whoever, significant prizes, oh, give away significant prizes and it was stuff that was, that has met that is still metadata. Oh my gosh. That has metadata. How do you prove it
00:51:05:21 –> 00:51:06:16
Taken that week?
00:51:07:18 –> 00:51:16:15
Just saying you’d have to have a pretty hefty prize. Go ahead and be silent. Your odds are gonna be one in three. Get the tripod. Yes.
00:51:17:12 –> 00:51:32:01
On that note, thanks to everybody that participated in the truck camera picture contest over the summer. We got a ton of entries we’re gonna be, once everybody’s back in the office on Monday, we’ll be picking some winners and letting you guys vote on the overall winner. So just wanna thank everybody for entering that on Instagram.
00:51:32:04 –> 00:51:35:04
Now it’s that next week too, probably, huh? When we do the next podcast,
00:51:35:15 –> 00:51:37:03
Probably next podcast, we’ll have all the winners slide out
00:51:37:03 –> 00:51:40:29
Winners, and then tell you how to go vote on the winner’s choice one. Yep.
00:51:41:14 –> 00:51:43:03
So make sure you’re following us on Instagram.
00:51:43:13 –> 00:51:47:03
Yeah, Instagram at epicon or listen to this podcast wherever you listen to podcasts.
00:51:47:14 –> 00:51:50:11
Yeah. Alright. Good luck counting this weekend, everybody.
00:51:52:03 –> 00:52:41:18
