In this episode we call Travis Taylor who hunted Nevada Mule deer last year with his wife Erika. They were both able to harvest awesome bucks that came in over 30 inches wide, which is a rare occurrence these days. We also talk about general antler growth trends we are seeing for both elk and deer here in the West.

00:01:00:10 –> 00:01:07:16
Trying to see it. What’s funny about it is, is Bronson’s like, we’re gonna do this, Logan. We don’t get in five seconds and we’re out. You’re out.

00:01:07:27 –> 00:01:10:00
He was just, he could hold onto it for any longer.

00:01:10:15 –> 00:01:11:12
What are you doing Logan?

00:01:11:22 –> 00:01:12:27
What am I doing? Yeah,

00:01:12:27 –> 00:01:14:08
What are you growing a stash for? Just,

00:01:14:08 –> 00:01:16:04
Just trying some stuff out. I don’t know. New

00:01:16:09 –> 00:01:16:21
Tac, new

00:01:16:28 –> 00:01:19:06
Tactic. New tactic. Try to pick up the ladies. How long

00:01:19:06 –> 00:01:21:02
Is that? New Stash? New me? Yeah.

00:01:21:02 –> 00:01:22:19
There you go. Yeah. Devin. Three

00:01:22:19 –> 00:01:22:28
Months. Listen

00:01:23:00 –> 00:01:27:01
To Devon. Three months, Devon and Josh. That’s like 48 hours for them.

00:01:27:06 –> 00:01:36:19
Oh, Devin. It’s 48 hours. Alright, Bronson, where are we going with today’s podcast? We got some rain out there. Of course. Devon’s forecasting small animals are gonna die, right?

00:01:37:14 –> 00:01:38:28
Well, they’re saying something

00:01:39:12 –> 00:01:45:10
When it hits. It’s raining. It is. It’s raining out there. And cash. You’ve got some what? Hail on the, yeah. Screen.

00:01:45:16 –> 00:01:46:24
I open it up. I thought snow. Josh,

00:01:47:01 –> 00:01:47:08
You

00:01:47:08 –> 00:01:57:04
Were, what mountain range is that? Er No Paint. It’s Josh’s hometown. What are they called? What’s that? Plateau? Where’s the Aquarius? Is that the Boulder

00:01:57:04 –> 00:01:59:18
Country? What’s the aqua? I think it’s Gongon.

00:01:59:28 –> 00:02:02:04
Aag. I think it’s the Margon. Is Boulder

00:02:02:04 –> 00:02:02:26
Boulders? Yeah.

00:02:03:06 –> 00:02:06:13
All right. We’re getting very deep in the weeds right out of the gate.

00:02:06:18 –> 00:02:10:26
Josh, what’s your cellular telling? Is it, is it? It is snow on our hailing. Yeah.

00:02:11:02 –> 00:02:15:12
Well the one, the one pond, the one’s on looked like it was getting some aggressive hail.

00:02:16:14 –> 00:02:22:16
Josh, how’s your scouting going? Good to and from work is all right. Yeah. Pretty legit. Yeah. Kind of makes

00:02:22:23 –> 00:02:24:01
The cotton tail numbers are up.

00:02:24:18 –> 00:02:32:18
I noticed he can’t say too much. ’cause there’s only two highways from Pengu to Cedar. I know. Everybody will know what you see. What of two spots? I

00:02:32:18 –> 00:02:33:09
Go, I go

00:02:33:12 –> 00:02:34:18
Car, I go through Hilldale

00:02:37:03 –> 00:02:38:15
Drives a can around

00:02:39:09 –> 00:02:40:04
Take Highway nine.

00:02:41:07 –> 00:02:48:03
You’re going through one of our units one way or another. Doesn’t matter. If you go around through St. George, come through Pine Valley on over Pinau.

00:02:48:03 –> 00:02:49:19
Apple Valley’s beautiful. This sky.

00:02:49:28 –> 00:02:57:13
Oh, of course. Anywhere but the unit. All right. Where are we going? Where are we going with this? Well, I don’t

00:02:57:13 –> 00:02:58:12
Know. Don’t look at me. I’m,

00:02:58:16 –> 00:02:59:01
I’m just here.

00:02:59:26 –> 00:03:03:15
Okay. In another week we’re getting prepped, right? You’re getting prepped to take off.

00:03:04:18 –> 00:03:07:05
Got packing last night. Devon. Kind of weird. That first pack.

00:03:07:19 –> 00:03:12:13
The first, are you packing Hell Hanson gear or what are we what are you packing? Rain. Rain gear, rubber,

00:03:12:13 –> 00:03:14:15
Rubberized rain gear. Definitely

00:03:14:15 –> 00:03:14:29
Rain gear.

00:03:14:29 –> 00:03:15:17
Definitely

00:03:15:25 –> 00:03:16:24
Taking those Fran

00:03:17:20 –> 00:03:19:04
Fancy frog dogs. We got,

00:03:21:12 –> 00:03:23:28
I’m taking those little boot fans. Yeah, probably.

00:03:24:11 –> 00:03:24:24
I need those.

00:03:25:14 –> 00:03:28:27
Your beard looks like it’s a mid-November beard right now. It’s mid-July.

00:03:29:05 –> 00:03:29:25
I know, but

00:03:29:25 –> 00:03:30:04
You’re gonna

00:03:30:04 –> 00:03:32:06
Keep it. It’d be gone, but I may need it

00:03:33:04 –> 00:03:33:25
For survival.

00:03:34:07 –> 00:03:35:22
When you’re the North Pole, keep

00:03:35:27 –> 00:03:43:11
Your neck neck warmer. Okay. Okay. Well you guys might have an adventure to talk about. It’ll be great.

00:03:43:11 –> 00:03:43:18
Yeah.

00:03:43:18 –> 00:03:44:22
We’ll have a story when we come

00:03:44:22 –> 00:03:49:25
Back. Heading up to Alaska, right? Yep. Heading up there. Doing good things. Course Bronson, you’re gonna be about

00:03:49:25 –> 00:03:50:29
C duck ducks and Ling Todd. Right?

00:03:51:07 –> 00:03:53:13
Something like that. They tell me. Yeah.

00:03:54:15 –> 00:03:56:16
Bronson, you got a family trip headed out.

00:03:56:20 –> 00:04:00:03
Yep. Here shortly. Let’s go. A family trip. Sightseeing trip. Probably. Hopefully

00:04:00:03 –> 00:04:08:12
Not. The rest of us here are gonna be scouting. Right. Trying to come up with big deer, maybe Big bulls. Bucks and bulls and bulls and whatever else, right? That’s right.

00:04:08:21 –> 00:04:14:18
I’m leaving. I’m leaving the country too. What? Yeah. Yeah. I got roped into a family vacation,

00:04:14:21 –> 00:04:17:07
So, and opening the next, next week.

00:04:18:00 –> 00:04:19:18
What? Yeah. Is this on the calendar?

00:04:19:26 –> 00:04:20:17
I’ve told you about it.

00:04:20:20 –> 00:04:23:03
You can’t go. Okay. What do you got? You have to,

00:04:23:09 –> 00:04:23:28
You don’t have to pull

00:04:23:28 –> 00:04:26:17
My arm. Very hard. Do you want us, do you want us to tell you you can’t go going down to

00:04:26:23 –> 00:04:28:24
Sure. Do you want, where are we going? Cancun?

00:04:29:02 –> 00:04:29:09
Oh,

00:04:29:19 –> 00:04:30:04
I guess. Wow.

00:04:30:25 –> 00:04:31:22
I guess. I don’t know.

00:04:31:26 –> 00:04:33:27
You’re gonna, I’m just there. You’re gonna be trafficked.

00:04:34:03 –> 00:04:34:18
Are you healed?

00:04:34:28 –> 00:04:36:16
Probably a guy like you. A like

00:04:36:16 –> 00:04:37:23
Yours. I say be careful man.

00:04:38:08 –> 00:04:38:15
Are

00:04:38:15 –> 00:04:43:27
You, are you healed up yet? After that race and that I’m good. The mosquito bites. You got you a vector. I

00:04:43:27 –> 00:04:44:28
Still, I’ve still got the mosquito bites.

00:04:44:28 –> 00:04:47:03
Well, you might be a vector carrying some kind of a

00:04:47:04 –> 00:04:51:18
Diseases. Let’s hear a little bit of about the finale of the little race. You could

00:04:51:18 –> 00:04:53:09
In. Yeah, I could. I could go do it again this weekend. No problem.

00:04:53:20 –> 00:04:54:09
Well, really

00:04:54:26 –> 00:04:55:29
I’ve done it once. It’s easy.

00:04:57:13 –> 00:04:59:22
Okay. He’s young. Devin,

00:05:00:00 –> 00:05:01:18
Go ahead. Cash. This is so

00:05:01:18 –> 00:05:03:15
Easy. Me. No, it’s not that easy. So

00:05:03:15 –> 00:05:04:00
How’d this go down?

00:05:04:06 –> 00:05:05:07
I, you guys showed up. This

00:05:05:07 –> 00:05:05:22
Is last weekend.

00:05:06:08 –> 00:05:15:15
Last weekend. Well, let’s back up. Three weekends before last weekend. Devon walks over to my office and says You’re going, we’d been talking about you, but

00:05:15:15 –> 00:05:21:11
I’ve only invited, we had this on the podcast. Yeah. I’ve only, I haven’t only invited you. Yeah. My whole life. I’ve never invited anybody to you. Yep.

00:05:21:14 –> 00:05:25:13
Yep. Come to find out why it’s never been invited. Apparently, according to him, of

00:05:25:13 –> 00:05:27:03
Course. Let’s say Wyatt was invited.

00:05:27:06 –> 00:05:29:00
Yeah. He acts all offended. I

00:05:29:00 –> 00:05:29:19
Mean, come on,

00:05:29:25 –> 00:05:35:00
Come on, come on. You invite him to lunch and he won’t go. Yeah. Alright. Usually he goes, here

00:05:35:00 –> 00:05:47:25
He goes. But no, Devin walks in my office and said, crap or get off the pot. And I said, okay. I guess we’re signing up for this Spartan beast. And I’d never done it before. Three weeks in advance and start training. And we went and did it and we didn’t die.

00:05:48:13 –> 00:05:53:00
How many vials do you think you did in that three weeks though? Oh, before to get

00:05:53:11 –> 00:05:55:23
A lot. I could probably add it up. Probably. I

00:05:55:23 –> 00:05:56:10
Bet you’re knocking on

00:05:56:10 –> 00:05:57:13
A hundred. Probably a market. No,

00:05:57:20 –> 00:05:59:00
No. I’d say probably 75.

00:05:59:29 –> 00:06:00:13
Knocking on a hundred.

00:06:00:25 –> 00:06:01:12
Probably a market golf

00:06:01:25 –> 00:06:02:01
Way

00:06:02:01 –> 00:06:02:22
There. Yeah,

00:06:03:28 –> 00:06:09:06
Definitely The market. It market. So then what? Devin had to show you up and do the other two races? Yeah.

00:06:09:10 –> 00:06:10:15
Oh. Without me there. So I

00:06:10:17 –> 00:06:11:07
Without you there.

00:06:11:18 –> 00:06:12:23
I’m just trusting him. Well he,

00:06:12:24 –> 00:06:14:12
He is trusting that he did it. Yeah. Right.

00:06:14:21 –> 00:06:18:24
He is roughly 10 years you’re senior. And he had to tell everything gets easier the older you get

00:06:18:26 –> 00:06:25:09
It. It does. Yeah. It’s easier the older you get. Right. I have track to prove it. It was

00:06:25:09 –> 00:06:37:00
Fun. It was fun though. It was, it surprises you when you grab the 60 pound bag and there’s like guys that are way more jacked than fatty me. And you just cook past them.

00:06:37:22 –> 00:06:38:11
You know what that’s

00:06:38:11 –> 00:06:40:01
From. It’s a glorious feeling because you’re

00:06:40:01 –> 00:06:40:13
Packing meat,

00:06:40:23 –> 00:06:44:01
Dude. You’re just like, I got meat on my back. You just walk and they’re, what’s that from?

00:06:44:26 –> 00:06:49:22
Close your mouth. Close your mouth. Yeah. You’re about dying when you walk by ’em. Yeah. Make sure it’s,

00:06:50:00 –> 00:06:51:01
But you’re not even breathing.

00:06:51:18 –> 00:06:51:27
Yeah.

00:06:52:17 –> 00:06:54:19
It’s just packing all that elk, man. Packing

00:06:54:24 –> 00:06:56:04
Our whole lives. Packing a quarter. And

00:06:56:04 –> 00:07:04:19
You’re good to go. It’s funny ’cause yeah, like we’re, I’m not the strongest guy. No. You got these big dudes, like this is their life. Big cash throw on something over our shoulder. The bucket.

00:07:05:08 –> 00:07:08:09
No joke. Like that was easy. Yeah, that one was easy. There

00:07:08:09 –> 00:07:09:06
Was, it was not easy. No,

00:07:09:06 –> 00:07:09:27
No, no. Easy

00:07:10:06 –> 00:07:11:29
Considering. We didn’t take seven breaks.

00:07:12:10 –> 00:07:13:10
No, we took one.

00:07:13:10 –> 00:07:14:09
How far do you go to pass it?

00:07:14:09 –> 00:07:17:17
It reminds like, kind of like when I went to the shooting course. Yeah.

00:07:18:08 –> 00:07:18:24
You’re just

00:07:18:24 –> 00:07:21:16
Like, I’m the least likely guy to win. Yes.

00:07:21:26 –> 00:07:24:07
And I’m, you know, a little hairy guy. Just,

00:07:24:18 –> 00:07:25:29
I’m just a feller. Walking

00:07:25:29 –> 00:07:28:18
With a, walking with a sandbag on my back. Yeah,

00:07:29:09 –> 00:07:29:16
It

00:07:29:16 –> 00:07:29:19
Was

00:07:29:19 –> 00:07:30:29
Fun. Makes you feel good about yourself.

00:07:30:29 –> 00:07:33:05
Spanish for Dawns are built different bro.

00:07:33:06 –> 00:07:34:01
Built different bro.

00:07:36:24 –> 00:07:37:05
State

00:07:37:05 –> 00:07:37:22
Champ. Oh

00:07:37:24 –> 00:07:42:28
Six. Since this was, oh my gosh, it’s

00:07:42:28 –> 00:07:43:12
True. Look it up.

00:07:44:00 –> 00:07:44:15
I believe it.

00:07:45:07 –> 00:07:45:16
Five.

00:07:46:20 –> 00:07:52:12
Oh my. I believe it. Okay, so I tell you I was so what’s next? A compliment since this was so easy for y’all.

00:07:52:20 –> 00:07:57:09
It wasn’t easy. Next. I’m never doing it again. What’s next? I’m not doing all three ever day cash.

00:07:57:10 –> 00:08:00:11
You witnessed the finale Archibald finale. I

00:08:00:11 –> 00:08:01:15
Was, I was pushed

00:08:01:15 –> 00:08:02:03
Him into retirement.

00:08:02:07 –> 00:08:06:09
You helped him over? I did. The logs. I did. Well, all the obstacles. You,

00:08:06:23 –> 00:08:10:06
I don’t know that I ever helped him. Devon’s an animal. Well,

00:08:10:06 –> 00:08:11:18
Sometimes he likes to sit around and

00:08:11:24 –> 00:08:12:03
Hey it

00:08:12:10 –> 00:08:14:22
Surprise. Did I fail any obstacles sometimes to

00:08:14:22 –> 00:08:15:05
Stick the roses

00:08:15:05 –> 00:08:15:28
All the way through? I

00:08:15:28 –> 00:08:16:03
Don’t think

00:08:16:03 –> 00:08:17:23
So. Did we attempt it? I don’t think so. No. Did

00:08:17:23 –> 00:08:18:00
Cash?

00:08:18:18 –> 00:08:18:24
Yes.

00:08:21:00 –> 00:08:21:22
Yes. When

00:08:21:22 –> 00:08:28:24
You hit your arm just right and it goes numb, you just call it a quits and you just do the penalty. You just go, you just cut your losses there and you do the rest of ’em.

00:08:29:00 –> 00:08:29:09
Okay.

00:08:29:24 –> 00:08:30:12
You’re pretty wise.

00:08:30:14 –> 00:08:31:22
Good to know. You can do that though. Young.

00:08:31:22 –> 00:08:32:09
You are? Yeah.

00:08:32:14 –> 00:08:34:15
What, what was our race? It was 14 miles.

00:08:34:29 –> 00:08:43:04
14.4. And it was, they, I read on their side it was like just shy of 5,000 feet. But on X claims it’s only 3,800 feet. Yeah,

00:08:43:04 –> 00:08:44:29
That’s what mine mindset’s. 3,800 elevation.

00:08:45:03 –> 00:08:47:13
But I don’t know. One of ’em accurate. That’s

00:08:47:13 –> 00:08:49:10
Pretty good. Poke. That’s a good, that’s a good test.

00:08:49:12 –> 00:08:50:06
That’s a good jog

00:08:50:15 –> 00:08:51:16
For a sheet punt or something.

00:08:51:18 –> 00:08:55:16
And then Devin, finish that out. You guys get done with that? Then what do you do? Do? I did

00:08:55:16 –> 00:08:59:01
12 the next day. For what? And another 3,100 feet

00:08:59:08 –> 00:09:00:15
With other members of your family.

00:09:00:28 –> 00:09:02:06
Wherever. Yeah. Two more races. One with

00:09:02:06 –> 00:09:06:11
My brother. You just took on some freshies and went on and kept, kept crushing. Just kept going. Did you even

00:09:06:24 –> 00:09:07:00
Too

00:09:07:00 –> 00:09:10:10
Close or just, yeah, I changed every time. Okay. You you got to. You

00:09:10:10 –> 00:09:11:21
Have to. And you go stop my box.

00:09:11:24 –> 00:09:13:01
You should have seen cash. Oh,

00:09:13:24 –> 00:09:14:28
Was he Pretty disgusting?

00:09:15:02 –> 00:09:23:11
It’s pretty like you go through the, like you’re in the last mile and you go through a mud bug. You have to go underneath all the water and it’s, it’s nasty. It’s mud water. Nasty. It’s

00:09:23:11 –> 00:09:25:15
Disgusting disgust. It’s usually not that disgusting. But

00:09:25:19 –> 00:09:27:04
Your 50th in line to go through it.

00:09:27:21 –> 00:09:29:17
50th. Try like 5,000.

00:09:29:23 –> 00:09:30:19
Yeah, we’re in the

00:09:30:19 –> 00:09:32:10
Back of the back. You know. That’s

00:09:32:12 –> 00:09:35:21
Gross. It’s like, it was gross. October 15th. Elk wallow. Oh

00:09:35:21 –> 00:09:35:25
Yeah.

00:09:36:04 –> 00:09:39:01
Oh yeah. You guys have athletes’ feet all over your body.

00:09:39:09 –> 00:09:39:21
Oh, I,

00:09:40:03 –> 00:09:40:17
That’s what

00:09:40:17 –> 00:09:41:16
I’m talking about. I sprayed in

00:09:42:02 –> 00:09:44:22
Al Spray, I sprayed my feet with alcohol and I go home. That’s, this

00:09:44:22 –> 00:09:50:00
Is what I’m talking about. You going to Mexico, you’re definitely a vector for something You’re taking down there. You just don’t know

00:09:50:07 –> 00:09:52:10
Why. I don’t know. I don’t know. If

00:09:52:10 –> 00:09:54:17
You’re not, I don’t even know what I’m doing. If you’re not traffic, you’re gonna get sick.

00:09:55:03 –> 00:09:57:03
I probably will. So if I die,

00:09:57:06 –> 00:10:01:27
I die. So next year, now that archibald’s out. If I die, I’ll do that.

00:10:02:00 –> 00:10:03:16
Archibalds out. I’m just not doing all three

00:10:03:16 –> 00:10:08:12
Again. Whatever. Been two days. No, I was thinking you should pick up logie bear as you’re next. Logie

00:10:08:22 –> 00:10:11:00
Could do it if he started now.

00:10:13:00 –> 00:10:13:06
Oh,

00:10:13:16 –> 00:10:14:15
I only started three weeks before. So

00:10:14:15 –> 00:10:20:10
We have a friendly Come on. You guys bash each other nonstop. Yeah, Logan comes right in. You suck.

00:10:21:03 –> 00:10:22:05
Oh, it’s a, it’s a day.

00:10:22:05 –> 00:10:24:19
I’d break your arm with stroke of a finger. Well, I could

00:10:24:27 –> 00:10:36:16
Logan. Logan forgets the day that he had been going to the gym very consistently. And I hadn’t been in months. And I pinned his hand to the table pretty easy. He forgets that day often. So I have to remind him. Yeah,

00:10:36:16 –> 00:10:39:17
But you, you had like two years of arm wrestle. Training from a professional.

00:10:39:27 –> 00:10:40:27
I never went to a, he

00:10:40:27 –> 00:10:45:11
Told me, he said I worked with the guy who would do all these tricks and all these arm wrestling competitions on

00:10:45:11 –> 00:10:46:28
The Tor. He taught me maneuvers.

00:10:47:08 –> 00:10:51:11
Well, Logan, you have ai. Yeah. Ai. It’ll teach you. I should

00:10:51:11 –> 00:10:54:17
Have. I don’t, I’m not gonna miss him again. Pt. I don’t need to prove it. He,

00:10:54:17 –> 00:10:55:06
You’re speaking

00:10:55:17 –> 00:10:55:25
Past

00:10:55:25 –> 00:10:58:05
Tense. We’re talking about the future. Future.

00:10:58:21 –> 00:11:05:17
You know, when you’re glassing a herd of elk and the ruts like full swing and there’s like two spikes just over here doing their thing. Sparring

00:11:05:17 –> 00:11:06:00
That, that

00:11:06:00 –> 00:11:06:11
Would be, yeah.

00:11:06:11 –> 00:11:08:04
Sparring. That’d be cash. And Logan. Hey,

00:11:08:04 –> 00:11:09:15
I’m at least a rag. Yeah.

00:11:09:23 –> 00:11:10:01
Like

00:11:10:05 –> 00:11:10:13
I’ve

00:11:10:13 –> 00:11:11:09
Got four points. You got

00:11:11:09 –> 00:11:17:03
A broke or two? You’re definitely a legal bull. Yeah, I’m a legal bull. Or Logan? Not so sure. Oh,

00:11:17:12 –> 00:11:17:23
He’s got,

00:11:18:24 –> 00:11:21:06
You got a cow. He’s still vet’s nervous.

00:11:21:10 –> 00:11:22:12
A little bit of vet. Yeah.

00:11:22:18 –> 00:11:24:19
Yeah. I’m, I’m for it.

00:11:24:20 –> 00:11:26:01
We’ll just velvet till the end of

00:11:26:01 –> 00:11:31:07
October. It’s D is rubbing. It’s

00:11:31:07 –> 00:11:32:18
Soft. Soft. It’s soft. When I scratch.

00:11:32:29 –> 00:11:39:28
I like it. Geez. Alright. Alright. How do we transition to something better than this?

00:11:40:21 –> 00:11:42:11
I’m trying to get it back into hunting related.

00:11:42:16 –> 00:11:44:03
All right, so take us back into hunting.

00:11:44:10 –> 00:11:45:18
No, I just was saying, oh,

00:11:45:18 –> 00:11:48:03
You talked about elk wall ripening things to elk wall.

00:11:48:20 –> 00:11:53:06
It’s two spikes over there. Sparring in the corner, splashing while everything else is going on.

00:11:56:03 –> 00:12:07:25
Alright, so let’s move along here. So where, where are we at Bronson? On things? We’re cranking off the hunting season. We’re gathering up trail cameras. Like it’s our job. At least the cards for a minute. At least going to be gathering up cameras. And

00:12:07:25 –> 00:12:20:24
At least the ones that you know are might as well get started on some of them right now. Yeah. The ones that haven’t produced in a month already. Yeah. And they have no deer. And it’s, which is dry as a bone. I’m not talking about a mountain unit. I’m talking about a desert area.

00:12:21:14 –> 00:12:33:06
It’s so frustrating. ’cause some of my favorite places are just my favorite places. The deer don’t like ’em. I don’t, you know what I mean? I’m like, man, I’m the only camera here. Or water is amazing. It looks like there’s a track or two. It’s probably a giant,

00:12:33:17 –> 00:12:35:16
What is it? Dough? Oh no,

00:12:35:19 –> 00:12:43:03
I, no, it was the smallest bucks you’ve ever seen. I pictured Logan and cash maybe at 10 years old. You know what I mean? Come on. I’m sparked

00:12:44:10 –> 00:12:45:06
You still got spots

00:12:45:06 –> 00:13:17:10
Buddy. It was, it was the smallest bucks ever. And then the water dried up and there was nothing. It was like, and it would, it’s hard on stuff to get there. It’s hard on a side by side. Ended up taking Justin’s Tacoma in there once. I mean, it was hard on it. Really hard. And it just, those kind of things. Like you think, man, it’s gonna be awesome. And it’s not. Man, I’m only one here. That’s gonna be amazing. Wow. It’s not, there’s one water that’s really cool. It’s like a cellar and then the water’s at the entrance and you, I’m the only camera on it. And it’s loaded. It’s loaded with small bucks,

00:13:18:00 –> 00:13:18:06
Huh?

00:13:18:20 –> 00:13:21:28
Like no good bucks. Just, ugh. That’s

00:13:21:28 –> 00:13:22:29
Kind of what’s out there.

00:13:23:11 –> 00:13:25:13
Yeah. What’s out there feels that way. A

00:13:25:17 –> 00:13:28:22
Lot of places. That’s what’s out there. I know. One to threes.

00:13:29:02 –> 00:13:30:28
Why is that? Do we need to recap why that is?

00:13:32:03 –> 00:13:32:23
No, that’s

00:13:32:29 –> 00:13:42:28
Just, hey, we’re having a positive. Right. We talked about this Josh. Lots of small bucks. Yeah. You know. Yeah. One out of every 15 bucks there’s a four pointer, whatever, maybe. Yeah. Ish.

00:13:43:09 –> 00:13:43:18
Yeah.

00:13:45:03 –> 00:13:45:10
So

00:13:45:14 –> 00:14:01:27
Yeah. Yeah. I went and pulled three or four of mine last weekend that just weren’t doing much. And ’cause you kinda gotta start getting going on it if you have stuff coming up or had, you know, a whole herd of cows kind of move on. And I was just over that. And cattle. Yep. Or

00:14:01:27 –> 00:14:02:17
Yeah, cattle.

00:14:02:20 –> 00:14:43:29
Cattle cows or cows come in and just kind of sick of seeing it and over that filling up a car in four days. Yeah. And it wasn’t really worth, it was getting there before. And anyway, now I got some sheep coming in. That was one thing I used, used to do, I would say. Yeah. And some of the areas where, I don’t know, I guess you could say back in the heyday or whatever, I, I kept kinda kept track of when the cow, where the cows were when they were on the years they were sort of thing. ’cause a lot of times they’ll end up moving pastures, you know? So it’s like, so I’d kind of try and plan my trail camera stuff around that. But like, okay this year I gotta put my cameras heavy over here because actually no, their cows aren’t gonna be in this

00:14:43:29 –> 00:14:46:00
Pasture for rhyme or reason. That one’s void this year.

00:14:46:05 –> 00:14:54:16
Yeah. And then this year and then next year I would kind of move ’em over over to this other side and try and be in some deer loop just to avoid the cows and stuff.

00:14:55:01 –> 00:14:55:28
What do you think causes that?

00:14:56:29 –> 00:14:58:16
Well what do you mean? Like

00:14:58:19 –> 00:15:00:18
Just the inconsistencies from year to year.

00:15:01:04 –> 00:15:03:19
Oh, just the way the ranges work. Yeah. They

00:15:03:19 –> 00:15:04:21
Have on and off units throughout.

00:15:04:25 –> 00:15:30:27
I mean, I find in the desert a lot of times like I’ve got the same bugs, you know what I mean? But they’re, but up in the mountain, more mountainous country. Like there’s some inconsistencies, although your dad’s got some inconsistencies in the desert. Yeah. Compared to when we were there or compared to last month versus this month or whatever. Right. They just come out of the middle of nowhere and you would think they would be pounding it all summer long. Right. But there’s movement. Yeah. Just the oddballs that show up and then move

00:15:30:27 –> 00:15:48:16
In. It was pretty interesting. They need more so with elk, like you get a bull 15 miles away across the valley. I mean deer though, you feel like in a deserty dry area and there’s no other good waters. You get, you get what’s there in a month like and there’s no been no rain, no there’s no puddles, there’s no, you

00:15:48:16 –> 00:15:49:04
Kind of got ’em.

00:15:49:05 –> 00:15:53:29
Might as well start pulling some of those cars. I’m just saving you some puddles next week. I’m just saving you time.

00:15:54:06 –> 00:16:31:25
It was pretty interesting though. I had a camera, I haven’t had it up since it was up here on Penguin Lake and there was the Brian Head fire. 80,000 acres, you know, giant fire changed basically the entire unit and how a lot of things, how the animals use the unit really. And I used to run a camera. It was kind of in this saddle and it was in a really thick, just timber on both sides. But it was this open kind of saddle where they could come out and feed or I think they were just moving through it a lot to go down to water on either side. And then they’d kind of come up there to bed during the day or whatever. But they would just cross through the saddle a bunch. And I haven’t had that camera up since after the fire. And that was 2017 I think it was.

00:16:31:25 –> 00:17:06:03
Anyway, I went and put that camera up this year just to, to see, you know, just something new. Yeah. Like that, see if there’s something new, what’s still in there, whatever. It went up in there and, and it used to get hit pretty hard with bulls, especially early. And I got a picture of one bull on it is all, and there’s like a little herd of about 20 cow elk and calves in there. And that was the only thing. They’re just kind of hanging right there, you know? And so it’s just crazy how it changed. Something like that. Significantly changes. ’cause now they don’t have to use that saddle. They can walk any open hillside or whatever, you know, there’s not thick timber. They can’t get through it and yeah, it’s open and

00:17:06:03 –> 00:17:09:10
They’re all their way through it. They’re learning it as if it’s new country too. Yep,

00:17:09:15 –> 00:17:18:23
Yep. So it’s, it was kind of crazy. You can, I, so sometimes you’ll run into a situation like that where you’ll have a camera that used to be amazing that’s not worth putting up anymore from something like that at,

00:17:20:13 –> 00:17:24:07
Well I’m just happy to report that the pride of lions continue to be happy.

00:17:24:15 –> 00:17:29:22
Yeah. But you’ve, they’ve added, well you missed one the first time. You thought there was three. There’s

00:17:29:23 –> 00:17:33:24
Actually four. I thought there was three. There was four at least. I think that’s all that I can fit in a camera.

00:17:35:12 –> 00:17:36:04
Who knows what’s

00:17:36:04 –> 00:17:38:25
Beyond the lens. Yeah. Who knows? On the peripheral.

00:17:39:02 –> 00:17:44:22
Yeah. Got all hefe out in the brush. Old papa out there just watching his domain, his pride.

00:17:44:27 –> 00:17:57:28
It’s disgusting. Like the, and the one water that has the big Tom that’s got ear tags of both ears. Like he’s, and he’s an awesome cat and you have a lot of respect for him, but he’s just eating us outta the house now. I mean it’s just killing us.

00:17:58:22 –> 00:18:01:22
You don’t get ear tags for just being a nice,

00:18:02:00 –> 00:18:07:22
So what did I do? What did I do? Nice kidding. Supported the division Wildlife bought a tag for no reason. What if you walked up

00:18:07:24 –> 00:18:09:12
$104? What was that? Yeah,

00:18:09:21 –> 00:18:11:29
Yeah. Plus or minus. Yeah. Whatever they charge you.

00:18:12:13 –> 00:18:14:11
Did you get a spike tag today that went on sale?

00:18:15:00 –> 00:18:15:06
No,

00:18:17:17 –> 00:18:19:12
Can’t. Can’t buy one If you already got one,

00:18:20:03 –> 00:18:20:10
You

00:18:20:10 –> 00:18:21:11
Only have one. Yeah.

00:18:22:08 –> 00:18:23:18
No. How about y’all?

00:18:25:03 –> 00:18:26:12
I acquired, I acquired one

00:18:26:18 –> 00:18:27:16
Spikes for spikes.

00:18:28:03 –> 00:18:30:25
I have not yet. I’m out.

00:18:31:18 –> 00:18:39:17
Alright. Okay. Devin, you don’t have a lot to contribute. I guess you’ve run a little, a few less cameras this year. Yeah, just the way things are lining up. Right?

00:18:39:17 –> 00:18:40:29
It’s not lining up good for me. Well

00:18:40:29 –> 00:18:42:22
You’re both, it’s lining up amazing actually.

00:18:42:24 –> 00:18:45:05
Well it’ll be great. But not for running cameras. Right?

00:18:45:17 –> 00:18:47:03
Just the different hunts for this year for

00:18:47:03 –> 00:18:47:23
You. Yeah. The way it is.

00:18:47:23 –> 00:18:49:22
The way it’s, you got whole new lineup, right?

00:18:50:18 –> 00:18:51:06
Yep. I’m,

00:18:51:06 –> 00:18:57:29
Do you wanna quickly run through that? Because it feels like you do you have an enviable hunting schedule?

00:18:58:27 –> 00:19:00:22
I’m envious. I’m envious. You know

00:19:00:22 –> 00:19:01:12
A lot. I

00:19:01:12 –> 00:19:01:27
Have nothing going on

00:19:02:14 –> 00:19:07:01
General, I don’t cameras out ’cause I won’t be here when we have to pull ’em. Yeah,

00:19:07:02 –> 00:19:09:05
That’s really unfortunate that that part I told

00:19:09:05 –> 00:19:10:23
You I’d pull them. You’re gonna have four,

00:19:10:23 –> 00:19:13:23
Five. I don’t wanna make you do that. Hey, some of them you gotta ride a Yankee.

00:19:13:23 –> 00:19:15:23
It doesn’t matter. A hundred 109 versus

00:19:16:01 –> 00:19:17:10
You ain’t getting a truck to it, man.

00:19:18:03 –> 00:19:19:04
Okay, I’m out. Yeah,

00:19:19:05 –> 00:19:21:28
I know. That’s what I’m saying. It’s not fun.

00:19:22:00 –> 00:19:23:01
Devin. I’d walk a

00:19:23:01 –> 00:19:24:28
Hundred miles for dad. It’d a full day for you. And

00:19:25:03 –> 00:19:31:07
It wouldn’t be Devin when you put your hunting future in 48 or nine states in the fate of somebody else while you’re,

00:19:31:20 –> 00:19:32:12
Oh, I missed one

00:19:32:19 –> 00:19:35:07
5,000 miles from here or wherever you’re going.

00:19:35:08 –> 00:19:38:04
Camera number nine. For some reason I couldn’t find

00:19:38:04 –> 00:19:39:29
It. I had 12 up there. I only got 11.

00:19:40:18 –> 00:19:43:00
It’s crushed and self picks the whole time. He’s gone to

00:19:43:00 –> 00:19:48:00
A lab self pick. Yeah, that’s, I ain’t, I ain’t risking that not happening. But

00:19:48:05 –> 00:19:49:27
I know you it your license for accounting

00:19:49:27 –> 00:19:59:10
License for 48. I’m just gonna, is what it’s gonna take is just more, it’s just gonna be more days, mornings, and nights of a glass. Yeah, I know. Which sometimes I think like it’s

00:19:59:10 –> 00:19:59:16
Better.

00:19:59:26 –> 00:20:00:29
Some of the bucks I get,

00:20:01:06 –> 00:20:04:04
We think, we mentally think we get everything with cameras. And you

00:20:04:04 –> 00:20:20:24
Do not. Mountain units mean some bucks will hit one water like in a rotation once a month. And we only got two months really to identify what they are. And I’m like, and then you start glassing and you see the tracks and you see different little places they can get water. I’m like, ah, if I would’ve known, I could’ve been looking on this side the whole time. And

00:20:21:01 –> 00:20:37:05
Yeah, I had a lion move a deer, but I didn’t know about this water. And so then, and then when I learned about the water the next year and then the deer was on that new water that I didn’t know about the next year, I’m like, man, if I’d have known then what I know now. You know what I

00:20:37:05 –> 00:20:39:03
Mean? Yeah. You haven’t had a tag there since. Probably,

00:20:39:03 –> 00:20:43:16
Yeah. Haven’t had a tag since just, but it makes you, it irks you bad. Yeah,

00:20:44:15 –> 00:20:44:23
I know

00:20:44:23 –> 00:20:52:12
Last year I was tasked to maybe collect a camera or two for somebody that had a limited entry deer tag that was gone to Alaska or something. I think

00:20:52:12 –> 00:20:53:05
It seems like that did

00:20:53:05 –> 00:20:59:15
Happen. I considered just walking up and turning ’em in and walking away. I remember that. I just found a camera right here. I

00:20:59:15 –> 00:21:02:17
Just found light. This limited entry unit, Mr. Bronson, here’s

00:21:02:18 –> 00:21:03:27
A ticket for 43 cameras.

00:21:04:02 –> 00:21:10:17
Luckily I recorded the conversation and the affirmation that yes, those will be down by the 31st.

00:21:10:23 –> 00:21:14:13
I do remember that. I remember the very specific instructions and

00:21:14:17 –> 00:21:20:21
I’ll bet if you, I’ll bet if you look at my inReach log, I reached him on the 31st to say confirm are you down? Yes or no?

00:21:20:21 –> 00:21:24:04
There was, there was, there was confirmation. See

00:21:24:15 –> 00:21:26:22
I mean I protect, I know how to protect myself. Oh,

00:21:26:22 –> 00:21:27:00
That’s

00:21:27:00 –> 00:21:29:13
Funny. You never know. Your friends are the ones that are gonna take

00:21:29:13 –> 00:21:31:24
You down at that point, when I left, nobody’s

00:21:31:24 –> 00:21:32:03
Your friend

00:21:32:21 –> 00:21:38:11
At that point. They were Josh’s cameras. I laid the foundation. Josh, I,

00:21:38:18 –> 00:21:41:12
I hereby give you these cameras July 30th.

00:21:41:18 –> 00:21:47:07
And we found the most amazing 11:00 PM we found the most amazing 300 inch stag and he wouldn’t shoot it. Oh it

00:21:47:17 –> 00:21:47:19
Remember that

00:21:47:19 –> 00:21:48:19
It, he didn’t even hunt it.

00:21:48:19 –> 00:21:53:17
Yeah, it was amazing. I was like, why not? Why wouldn’t you do that? I kill bucks just for their eye guards.

00:21:54:18 –> 00:21:56:25
And it had like 45 on each side. I did

00:21:57:16 –> 00:22:00:07
Did Mike should have, but just gush.

00:22:00:20 –> 00:22:02:04
Did you guys hear that thunder? You can probably hear

00:22:02:04 –> 00:22:04:01
That. Let’s move along before we lose power. Throw

00:22:04:01 –> 00:22:06:05
A little dark brooks right there. Alright. Just thunder

00:22:06:05 –> 00:22:24:09
Rolls. The thunder rolls. So as we get cranking here, that’s okay. As we get cranking here, let’s talk to an archery deer hunter. Last year, Travis and Erica Taylor, husband, wife combo went out and smashed a couple great bucks. I’d just like to hear the story verbally and throw it out here on the podcast. Right. Super good people.

00:22:24:13 –> 00:22:25:15
Are they both gonna get on?

00:22:26:00 –> 00:22:30:04
I don’t think so. I don’t know though. I don’t know what his schedule’s like. He’s just, he’s like, might be fun.

00:22:30:08 –> 00:22:30:18
Hit me

00:22:30:18 –> 00:22:32:03
Up. All right, here we

00:22:32:03 –> 00:22:36:18
Go. Be fun. Getting one of the Heather’s perspective on if the other one was trying to hone in on a certain, but

00:22:36:18 –> 00:22:44:19
Then sometimes you mess with marriages, so we’ll let them deal with who’s gonna rat who out and what happened.

00:22:59:18 –> 00:22:59:29
Hello.

00:23:00:07 –> 00:23:03:25
Hey, are you pulled over or you at a place? You can talk for a minute.

00:23:04:15 –> 00:23:06:01
Yeah, yeah, I could talk for a minute.

00:23:06:27 –> 00:23:21:10
Nice. All right. Well I just kinda wanted to, with the archery deer hunt coming up and whatnot, we just thought maybe it’d be good to have you guys on or you on and kind of tell your story. It is pretty awesome. Rare do you get a husband wife team? Do what you guys did.

00:23:22:03 –> 00:23:22:12
Yeah.

00:23:23:09 –> 00:23:24:15
Pretty awesome. All right,

00:23:25:13 –> 00:23:25:25
Thanks.

00:23:26:09 –> 00:23:52:03
So, so for those of you listening, we got Travis Taylor, Travis, Erica Taylor’s story was featured in the Epic Outdoors magazine, April, the Nevada issue. It just slammed a couple of great bucks archery wise. And of course in somewhat of a tough year. I mean, it wasn’t, it wasn’t a phenomenal year. It wasn’t bad, but it, it, you know, sure. Wasn’t easy. And so, so anyway, just kind of to set the stage for, for what we’re talking about.

00:23:53:13 –> 00:23:58:00
Alright. Do you want the long story or you want a short version or

00:23:59:17 –> 00:24:03:19
Maybe in the middle and Okay. Don’t leave out any of the good stuff.

00:24:04:11 –> 00:24:20:12
Okay. Alright. Well yeah, we, we drew the tags we put in as a, as a group and, and got super lucky and drew the tags and I mean, really lucky we should not have drawn ’em.

00:24:20:19 –> 00:24:24:07
And was this on a, a group application or just

00:24:24:29 –> 00:24:31:22
Separate Yeah. Group app. Yeah, it was, it was the day before I changed, I changed my choices and decided to do a group with her.

00:24:32:08 –> 00:24:38:05
Okay. Sounds like something Jason would do. Last minute. What do you mean? Well, I mean, how many times do you Amen. Your Nevada application a year.

00:24:39:09 –> 00:24:42:09
10 or 15. Exactly. It’s free and it’s fun. That’s,

00:24:43:01 –> 00:24:46:23
Yeah. So, no question. That’s right. Anyway,

00:24:47:20 –> 00:24:53:16
I’m the same way. I, I change it some my brother would be like, what’d you put in for? And I’m like, I don’t remember where I’m at right now because

00:24:53:17 –> 00:24:56:09
I changed, I dunno where I landed. 27 archery. Who knows?

00:24:56:29 –> 00:24:57:07
Yeah.

00:24:59:00 –> 00:25:00:13
Terrible tag. Alright.

00:25:00:27 –> 00:25:28:15
But, but yeah, so, so we shouldn’t have drawn the tags, but we did and got super lucky and, and just started pounding it with cameras. And I, I don’t have a lot of cameras, but my brothers and my nephew, they all helped me out. Yeah. Doing a bunch and, and I put cameras out pretty much anywhere. I, I like to hunt and a few other places and like you said, it wasn’t a great year. There wasn’t a whole lot

00:25:28:27 –> 00:25:29:06
Yeah.

00:25:29:20 –> 00:25:54:17
Of great bucks. But I got a picture of my buck on June 20th and he was, you know, you couldn’t tell what he was yet, but he was wide and heavy and I was already kinda crazy about him. And so I spent a lot of time looking for him and, and I never found him scouting. I never saw him one time until opening the day.

00:25:54:22 –> 00:26:01:09
So if it’s, so if it’s July 17th and we don’t have a buck that we’re crazy about and you had a buck, you were crazy about June. June 20th.

00:26:01:17 –> 00:26:01:21
20th.

00:26:02:09 –> 00:26:06:07
We probably don’t have a bucket to hunt. Yeah, yeah. Okay.

00:26:07:21 –> 00:26:07:28
No,

00:26:08:02 –> 00:26:11:07
But the a buck you’re crazy about is like two 20 plus

00:26:11:14 –> 00:26:14:22
We, no, you know, your guys’ bucks would do just fine.

00:26:16:08 –> 00:26:21:13
But yeah, so, and then there was a drop time buck on the same water that Erica was crazy about.

00:26:21:19 –> 00:26:21:28
Yeah.

00:26:22:24 –> 00:27:07:13
And so we, we ran ourselves ragged looking for ’em and never found them. And then opening morning we were spread out through there and we were the only ones there. It was just me and her and my brother Jason and a buddy were all there. And before it was even light enough to see really Eric had called me on the radio and she was all frantic. I thought she must have sat on a rattlesnake or something. Yeah, because the, just the, her voice, you know. But yeah, she was like, I, I got two bucks and I’m pretty sure one of ’em was Valhalla, which I, we named him Valhalla ’cause I was listening to a song called Valhalla calling the first time we went to look for him. Okay.

00:27:07:15 –> 00:27:10:24
And I Is that good music? What kind of music is that? Who s That sounds Viking.

00:27:11:00 –> 00:27:12:07
It’s like Viking Rock.

00:27:13:20 –> 00:27:27:04
You know Josh is over here. Can you listen to that? No, I know what vavala means. Oh, okay. Josh is just over here. Grinning vi. Yeah, Josh That hash my stuff. His eyes are rolling back in his head. Alright. Yeah. Alright. Sorry. Sorry.

00:27:27:21 –> 00:28:36:24
And no, I, I just told her, I said, well that Buck is calling me so I’m gonna call him Valhalla. Okay. You go. So anyway, she said, I’m pretty sure one of these buck is Valhalla. So anyway, make a long story medium. I put a stock on him that morning and I got pretty close. But just before I was able to poke out, poke my head out to where I’d have a shot. The wind shifted and he bolted and yeah. Didn’t seem again that day. And let’s see, so the first, and, and we could only hunt weekends, we couldn’t get a lot of time off work and stuff. Like, we’d maybe get a Friday or a Monday off and get a three day weekend. But so that first weekend we actually saw the, the job time buck also. Yeah. That first day. But it was too late to make a stock and so we had to go back to work. And I had heard that some other people were going to be in there looking for that buck. And so I was just watching Instagram all week, hoping I didn’t see a picture of him. Yeah.

00:28:37:24 –> 00:29:43:21
But we went back out on Thursday evening and actually Thursday evening my wife put a stock on the drop time buck and she got about 80 yards from him, but just ran outta light and couldn’t, couldn’t, didn’t have enough time. But so the next morning there was like people everywhere in there it seemed like there was, there was people all over. Geez. And so we were, we were pretty discouraged. And come to find out it was just, it was just one outfitter and they had one hunter and like three guides I think all spread out through there. And so I was, I was discouraged definitely. And, and then about an hour into the, into glassing, I found six bucks just traveling through a wash. Yeah. And I couldn’t tell what they were, they went, they went into a little wash and so I, I figured they were gonna pop up over the little ridge.

00:29:43:25 –> 00:30:33:22
Yeah. So I was just watching for ’em and sure enough, they help, they popped up and I could tell instantly that Valhalla and the drop time buck were both in the group. And so now I was like panicking because they were in the sunlight in the open, just kind of milling around, feeding a little bit. And so I was scared to death these other guys were gonna see ’em, you know, and, and so I’m watching them, but I have my wife standing between me and the guy that could see me. So he doesn’t, you know, know that I’m looking in only one spot. Oh, okay. And she keeps looking over at him and he’s looking all around, but I don’t know if he’s trying to, he’s doing the same thing we’re doing, you know, like they’ve seen him but don’t want us, don’t wanna draw attention to where they’re at.

00:30:33:27 –> 00:31:28:27
So I didn’t know what to do. Finally, they, they dropped down in the wash. I knew they were gonna bed down and we waited a while and, and eventually I’m like, well, I don’t think these guys have seen him. ’cause the one guy was kind of packing up, looked like he was gonna leave. So we just decided we were gonna see what we could do. Yeah. So we, we, we went, we got, got eyes on all of them beded down in the wash or in that little canyon. And my book was, was like down below the rest of ’em, him, and he was always with this one, three by four. Those two were down lower than the rest of them. And so I wasn’t really confident because I wanted to come from above them, but those other bucks were all above them. Yeah. So I just, I just decided I’m gonna try and go in the bottom of the wash and see what happens.

00:31:29:03 –> 00:32:24:10
And there, there luckily there was this one big boulder that blocked their view of the bottom of the wash. So the whole way, whole time I’m traveling up through there, they couldn’t see me. And so I took my time and I took my boots off and had my little moccasins on and just, just worked my way up in there. And I got to where I was 55 yards and I now I could see, I could see the right side of his rack sticking up. And so I just was slowly take like a half a step to my right every few minutes. And I could see now I could see his both sides of his rack. I could see the top of his back. But there was one little bush that blocked his face so he couldn’t see me. It was just crazy lucky, you know?

00:32:24:16 –> 00:33:23:10
Yeah. And so I, I stood there in the sun on the rocks with my bow. I mean, I had an arrow knocked and my release hooked on everything for, I don’t know, at least an hour and a half. I was just standing there. And finally they got up and kind of moved a few steps and, and I drew back and shot him. And I didn’t know, I, I felt pretty good about the shot, but I didn’t really know where I hit him or how good I hit him. And he took off running and I just sent another one trying to anchor him, you know? And, and then he, he ran, he ran aways and I could see he stopped. I could just see him over this one tree and his ears were drooping and he was hunched over. I knew he was hurting. And my wife, my wife and my little brother were watching.

00:33:23:12 –> 00:34:09:03
They couldn’t see me, but they could see the deer. And I had my earpiece in with my radio and they’re, they’re trying to tell me, but I wasn’t really listening to they’re, they didn’t, I didn’t know how good I hit him. And they’re trying to tell me like, Hey, you hit him, you hit him. Good. Just, just wait. He’s gonna die. But I, I was just, I just had like tunnel vision I guess, and it was kind of staticky. I’d have to kind of work to hear it. But anyway, so I, I run up on the side of the wash where I could see him and I was like 85 yards at that point. And so, and he didn’t move, so I knew he was hurting, so I was gonna take the time to arrange him again and get a good shot. So I arranged him and I had my, I had my site dialed to 88 yards.

00:34:10:00 –> 00:35:04:25
So when I arranged him and he was at 85, I didn’t adjust it. I’m like, oh, that’s close enough. Yeah. And so I, I shot again and I just hit like the very top of his back, like right. It went right in between the little, the his spine, but not, you know, didn’t hit his spinal cord in the, just in the void or whatever. Yeah. And so then he turned and started going up the hill and he just, he stopped and he just started doing the death wobble. And I thought he was gonna go down. And I was like, oh, awesome. And then the freaking tough sucker just kept walking and he went, he went outta my site, but not very, very far. And they watched him bed down. And so at that point I was very dehydrated. I hadn’t had water for hours and it was hot.

00:35:05:22 –> 00:35:51:25
So I asked my wife, can you come bring me my pack and some water? And so while she’s on her way to me, my little brother gets me on the radio. He is like, Hey, he’s up. And I was like, you gotta be kidding me. I thought, sure he is, you know, dead by now. And he walked like five feet and just nose dived into the ravine. And then he, he couldn’t see him, but he was pretty sure he died. Geez. So anyway, once, once Erica got to me, we walked up there and he was dead. He was wedged in between some rocks and it was, it was awesome. I mean it was, I’ve never, I’ve never been able to kill a buck that I had on camera and had that much history with. And so it was That’s pretty

00:35:51:25 –> 00:35:54:17
Addicting. It was special. That’s, that’s hunting, you know. Yeah.

00:35:55:06 –> 00:36:06:28
Yep. Yeah, it was, it was so cool to finally get my hands on him and, and touch his hook cheater and, you know, just, yeah, it was, it was awesome.

00:36:07:15 –> 00:36:14:16
Yeah. That’s awesome. Well, it doesn’t get better than that now. It’s her turn. What happened then?

00:36:14:19 –> 00:36:17:09
Yeah. Yeah. So, so then we went out

00:36:17:13 –> 00:36:26:05
The next, this next part of it just at least just reading the story was like just, I don’t wanna say a gift, let it go. It was meant to be, you know what I mean? Yeah,

00:36:27:15 –> 00:37:14:04
Yeah. So we kept hunting for the, for the drop time duck. And she was, I mean, she was dead set on the drop time buck. And she’s only killed one deer before in her life and never with anything with a bow. So I’m thinking she’s gonna start lowering her standards a little bit. ’cause there is some, some other decent bucks we were seeing. But every time she’s like, Nope, nope, I just want the drop time buck. And so it was the next weekend we saw the buck that she killed Saturday morning. And she saw him and, and I didn’t, I didn’t even look at him through the, she, she was looking at him and she’s like, nah, his forks suck. I don’t want him. So I’m like, all right. And then later that day she told me something about his eye guards. He had awesome eye guards.

00:37:14:04 –> 00:38:11:24
And I was like, wait a minute, you’re telling me it’s one with the crazy eye guards? She’s like, yeah, but his forks suck. And I was like, holy crap. Like I was, I was willing to hunt the whole season only for Valhalla and go home empty handed, but I’ve killed a lot more deer, you know, I, I thought for sure she would be, be willing to settle, especially when it was a pretty sweet buck. Anyway, we hunted the whole weekend, couldn’t find the drop time buck. So Sunday evening she decided she wanted to go try and find that I guard buck again. And so she, she called me on the radio about 6 36 or six 30 something, I don’t know, late in the evening. And she’s like, well, you wanna come over here and help me kill this igar buck? And I was like, yeah, if you, if you’re down, you know, I didn’t want, I felt like, I felt like maybe she was settling because I, I couldn’t believe that she didn’t wanna kill him before.

00:38:12:26 –> 00:39:00:22
But she was, she was like, no, I’m watching him. He’s, he’s pretty impressive. I think I wanna try. So she told me where to go so I could get eyes on him. And then she just started working her way towards him. And I was like, there’s no way she’s going to, she’s gonna get to him in time. Like it, she’s got a long way to go and it’s getting close to dark. And then that buck just, he just stopped feeding and just started traveling down the wash, like straight towards, it was, it was crazy. Like you said, it was like a gift. Like it was just meant to be Wow. Crazy. And so I wasn’t watch, I, I, I, I lost her because I was only watching the beer because I didn’t wanna lose him. But I was, I told her on the radio, I said, you guys gotta be getting close to each other.

00:39:01:22 –> 00:39:51:06
And so she’s, she started looking around and then she saw his antlers coming over, over a little rise in the wash at like 50 yards. So she starts fumbling with her, with her release and she was so, she was like so nervous and excited. She couldn’t, she could not get it hooked onto her, to her dealer. And it took her, took her a little while to get it hooked on. And by the time she did, the deer was only 20 yards away. Jeez. And it went, still coming, went right behind. Yeah. Just still coming. Right. Almost straight towards her. It was just kind of quartering quartering two. And it went behind a big cedar tree. And so by the time it walked out from the cedar tree, it was at 10 yards and it had no idea she was there. And she’s at full draw now.

00:39:51:28 –> 00:40:49:21
So she just put it, smoked, put the, put the pins on him and, and smoked him. And then he about smoked her. He about ran her over. She had to jump outta the way and wave her arms to keep from getting run over. And so I came down to where she was and she was just, I mean, she was shaking and just the adrenaline flowing, you know, she, she, it was, it was pretty funny to be honest, but we couldn’t find any blood. We found, well we found one splotch of blood and that was it. Geez. And so, yeah, I don’t, it was Wow. Eventually we found him and the arrow was stuck in him. And so I don’t know if it just, just plugged up the hole or what. Plugged up the hole. Yeah. That’s crazy. Yeah. But he didn’t go very far. And when I was up watching, I lost him, but I could hear him and I thought he went on this one side hill and then he stopped running.

00:40:49:23 –> 00:41:40:25
I thought I heard him go down. So we searched on that side hill forever until our headlamps were going dead. And then we, we went home and, you know, we were pretty bummed out. She was just, she was pretty, pretty upset. And, you know, I’m starting to think maybe the shot was a little further back. It’s a quarter and two, so if it’s not Yeah. Right at the shoulder, it might be gut shot. And anyway, the next day we searched for a few hours. We were gridding that whole hillside. And I went back up on the point I was on the night before, just a glass and see if I could find him, you know, see if I could see his antler sticking up or something. And I was walking back down to the road after a while and I looked up and he was just dead like 25 yards across the road.

00:41:41:12 –> 00:41:41:21
Geez.

00:41:42:22 –> 00:42:05:05
And he had, he hadn’t gone far from the night before. He just, it was just a different direction than I thought I heard. So we never really checked there. And he was, he was dead. She was, she was so excited. It was, it was pretty special. Especially both of them were 30 inch over 30 wide and over 40 inches of mass. So it was, it was pretty cool.

00:42:05:17 –> 00:42:07:16
Yeah. That’s gonna be hard to duplicate right there.

00:42:08:12 –> 00:42:09:07
Yeah. Really

00:42:09:07 –> 00:42:11:01
Hard. No matter just drawing tags. I

00:42:11:01 –> 00:42:15:12
Can’t get over the eye guards long are those, I like how much of Igar is on that deer?

00:42:16:00 –> 00:42:16:18
Oh man.

00:42:17:03 –> 00:42:20:12
Like four and a half inches on the one side. On the one eye guard. Yeah.

00:42:20:26 –> 00:42:29:24
Yeah, on the one. And then the other side, he had double four. I, I can’t remember now. I think it was like 10 inches of eye guards. At least 12. Yeah,

00:42:30:03 –> 00:42:30:24
12 easy.

00:42:31:03 –> 00:42:36:03
I, I can’t remember now. I remember thinking if my buck had that had those eye guards, it’d be 200 inches. Oh

00:42:36:03 –> 00:42:36:09
Yeah.

00:42:36:27 –> 00:42:38:16
Yeah. Well, yeah. Just

00:42:38:16 –> 00:42:39:10
No joke that

00:42:39:10 –> 00:42:43:09
That makes up a little bit of weak fork. She throw 10, 12 inches of eye guards. Yeah,

00:42:43:09 –> 00:42:44:04
Exactly. She look at that,

00:42:44:27 –> 00:42:50:11
The deer is, she was, she was like, holy cow, I can’t believe I didn’t wanna shoot him yesterday. Well,

00:42:50:11 –> 00:43:03:00
And we’ve been in that country and it just like reliving it the way you were talking about and like just killing it. The whole kill scene. It just, you can’t have enough of those kill scenes. Yeah. We need to do this all the time, Devin. Yep.

00:43:03:08 –> 00:43:06:25
I’m with you. I mean, just draw a tag on the snap of a finger. Bron.

00:43:06:27 –> 00:43:15:11
Yeah. We need to do this. How are we gonna do this more often? That bucks. That’s gotta be more than 10 inches. Yeah, but what’s a ma? Yeah, yeah,

00:43:15:18 –> 00:43:16:15
Probably. I can’t remember.

00:43:17:01 –> 00:43:30:09
Yeah, well it’s just, I mean, two great bucks. I mean, just stud bucks, husband, wife combo. Pretty awesome story. Yeah. Just fun. Kind of gets you charged up. Geez. Yeah, it

00:43:30:09 –> 00:43:30:15
Does.

00:43:31:12 –> 00:43:31:29
So you

00:43:31:29 –> 00:43:34:10
Guys got anything to look forward to this year? No one didn’t

00:43:34:11 –> 00:43:34:27
Draw out

00:43:35:19 –> 00:43:36:01
Anything

00:43:36:06 –> 00:43:38:00
Together. Well, any big game or just Sage? Krause.

00:43:39:01 –> 00:43:40:25
My, my son has a youth tag.

00:43:41:15 –> 00:43:42:13
Oh, there you go.

00:43:43:06 –> 00:43:54:10
And so we’re, we’re, he’s never hunted with a bow before, but he’s getting this year. So we’re, we’re gonna try it out, see if we can get lucky a second year in a row.

00:43:55:12 –> 00:43:56:06
Oh cool. Awesome.

00:43:56:12 –> 00:44:07:27
I mean, and and he, his area, he can still hunt all three seasons, you know, but, but we, we found a, a pretty nice buck that he wants to try. I mean, nothing crazy big, but

00:44:08:24 –> 00:44:09:00
No,

00:44:09:00 –> 00:44:13:02
It’ll be, he’s, he’s actually kinda similar to my buck. He’s got a hook cheater and

00:44:14:10 –> 00:44:22:17
He’s not, we definitely don’t, we have definitely not found bucks that we need to kill. He’s guys are talking about cheaters. That’s

00:44:22:17 –> 00:44:25:00
Not a revelation that I didn’t already know.

00:44:27:02 –> 00:44:30:29
So are you seeing good antler growth out there overall?

00:44:34:07 –> 00:44:40:03
I, I mean I’ve only seen a couple that were Yeah, that got me excited, you know. Yeah. And on camera I don’t really have anything

00:44:40:13 –> 00:44:41:16
Phil’s average of that.

00:44:41:24 –> 00:44:42:05
Anything very big.

00:44:42:21 –> 00:44:45:17
Yeah. All right, well, all right,

00:44:46:14 –> 00:44:54:24
Well that’s awesome. Just drawing tags together and then geez, punching two 30 inches. Both. This is awesome. Husband and wife. Yeah. Pretty freaking cool.

00:44:55:09 –> 00:44:57:10
Yeah. Yeah, it was special. Yeah.

00:44:58:14 –> 00:45:01:23
Well, pretty fun. Yeah. Appreciate you coming on. Pretty fun.

00:45:02:19 –> 00:45:03:10
Yeah. Thanks guys.

00:45:03:11 –> 00:45:12:15
Sure. Appreciate it Last minute, but just awesome to hear a great archery deer story this time of year. So when it’s gonna be happen here shortly, so. Alright. Okay. Have a great day.

00:45:13:01 –> 00:45:14:11
Okay, you guys too. Appreciate

00:45:14:11 –> 00:45:19:23
Thanks. Talk to you later. Bye. Bye. Bye. Pretty awesome. It’s a fun story. Bring

00:45:19:23 –> 00:45:24:21
It back. Brings it back when Jason and I tags out there. Yeah. It thousand 12. It reminds me of that year.

00:45:25:26 –> 00:45:28:29
We should make these things happen more often. Like just

00:45:29:19 –> 00:45:32:19
Define, make, how do we do

00:45:32:19 –> 00:45:38:24
That? I just even make the most of, you know, the, the Utah tags, any tags we have Utah, Nevada, I’ve got,

00:45:38:26 –> 00:45:39:03
You

00:45:39:03 –> 00:45:40:22
Have to start with, we need 30 inches.

00:45:40:26 –> 00:45:41:24
Okay. 30.

00:45:41:26 –> 00:45:42:05
Fine.

00:45:42:27 –> 00:45:44:00
Then you have to both

00:45:44:00 –> 00:45:45:06
Those are something then

00:45:45:06 –> 00:45:56:07
You left to draw together. But the only thing I can think of in our office, we could do this something like this this year and try to duplicate it would be Jason Wyatt on Ry Antelope in Idaho. Okay. Right. It’s the only thing that we got the

00:45:56:08 –> 00:46:03:09
Same of. And I, for one, I’m excited about it. Wyatt, he’s the one that convinced me to do it. Wasted my application fee so far have may end up wasting, Hey,

00:46:03:15 –> 00:46:06:29
You guys only have like 14 days to buy those tags or

00:46:07:04 –> 00:46:08:13
Whatever we need to convene.

00:46:09:23 –> 00:46:11:06
Maybe just give we a quick call.

00:46:12:00 –> 00:46:13:04
You alright. See if

00:46:13:04 –> 00:46:13:10
He’s

00:46:14:01 –> 00:46:14:17
He’s doing right now,

00:46:14:21 –> 00:46:18:01
Just, just tell him, say, hey I’m, I’m logged in here. I need to know if I’m buying this right now.

00:46:19:03 –> 00:46:20:09
Just say, just

00:46:20:09 –> 00:46:21:19
Be like, I’m ready to check out.

00:46:22:28 –> 00:46:23:10
I need the last,

00:46:23:25 –> 00:46:24:22
I need set the stage. Where is

00:46:24:22 –> 00:46:25:21
He? Everyone be quiet.

00:46:25:23 –> 00:46:30:21
I’ll bet you he’s in the Airbnb. He’s, he’s at Lake fo on a family

00:46:30:28 –> 00:46:33:18
Vac and he hates surprises. So we gotta really be quiet and let

00:46:33:18 –> 00:46:38:24
Him know. All right. I’ll let you do who the talking cat Killer Mike. Regular personal call. Killer mics. Logan.

00:46:40:24 –> 00:47:02:00
No, don’t. He’s probably on

00:47:02:00 –> 00:47:02:26
The water. He’s on a tube

00:47:02:27 –> 00:47:03:21
Or wishing he was

00:47:04:03 –> 00:47:06:08
Off the water. He’s on a tube right now. Why don’t tube? Yeah.

00:47:08:02 –> 00:47:10:24
No he’s over. It doesn’t

00:47:10:24 –> 00:47:13:03
Strike me over. He’s a slalom skier. Skier either.

00:47:13:11 –> 00:47:15:27
And he claims he used to be an, he’s looking at my call saying

00:47:16:22 –> 00:47:17:02
Jason

00:47:17:02 –> 00:47:18:23
Doesn’t just call, he might

00:47:18:23 –> 00:47:20:21
Be calling. Was that Bick back in the, for

00:47:20:21 –> 00:47:21:01
The podcast

00:47:21:29 –> 00:47:25:21
Wt beast days when he was, I don’t know, bulked up and shredded.

00:47:26:02 –> 00:47:34:21
So what did he do yesterday? He was in the back of his truck chilling out watching the passerbys get stuck on the sand. Yeah, I love it. I

00:47:34:21 –> 00:47:42:11
Love it. He, he, he did have some pretty strict, gotta strict instructions to maybe take a spotter and post up while he was down there. Oh, under the shade. Good. So hopefully that’s what he was

00:47:42:11 –> 00:47:43:09
Doing. Good. Hopefully he did

00:47:44:08 –> 00:47:46:27
Ly not watching the beach with the spotter but watching another

00:47:47:03 –> 00:47:47:23
Be a little weird.

00:47:50:15 –> 00:48:04:01
Dang. I was looking forward to that. But anyway, it just prompted me, you gotta start with I said 30 inches and if you can’t get that, you gotta at least start with two dudes drawing the same tack and you and Wyatt got ’em like, let’s make a memory.

00:48:06:20 –> 00:48:07:25
It’s really hard right now.

00:48:08:25 –> 00:48:09:01
Hey

00:48:09:05 –> 00:48:14:17
These guys how, however this fam this Trish or Erica and Travis did it.

00:48:15:18 –> 00:48:16:01
That is

00:48:16:09 –> 00:48:32:13
Felt hard to duplicate. Like I said, talking to ’em, go try doing that again. It’s really hard. They, they did well, did a lot of work, A lot of preparation. But for that to come together, we all know what killing big deer by the bow takes

00:48:32:20 –> 00:48:33:03
Not easy.

00:48:33:19 –> 00:48:52:28
A little bit more. Yeah. I don’t know. I you just talking not to change the subject on that though, you know, but we’ve talked about like antler growth in general and we had some predictions earlier this year and what might be one way or another and such and I don’t know, some deer, it’s hard, it’s so hard to tell right now because deer sometimes grow quite late sometimes, you know, they

00:48:52:28 –> 00:48:55:19
Grow a lot late like meaning a lot of inches late.

00:48:55:19 –> 00:49:59:19
Yeah. So you, so you never know. But, but overall I would say, you know, we talked a lot about elk and, and maybe having a lack of winter, you know, talking down here in southern Utah, central southern Utah in general, but a little bit of a lack of winter those bulls not having to go fight through snow and stuff all winter. It seemed like the elk really started growing Yeah. Early fast. And got big fast. I mean there were a lot of bulls that you could tell what they were gonna be 1st of June. Yeah. They were big. Yeah, they were big, big by mid-June there were a lot of bulls that only had an inch or two on their beams or fifth or something left to go. Like it was pretty crazy to see. And, and with that, you know, the mountain, the top of the mountain stuff greened up really fast. So they were on, they were on green grass from the day they shed their Yeah. Shed their antlers this year and essentially from where if they were lower and stuff and shed and and on top and they look really good this year. The elk do. So I dunno, something to think about in your application strategy. Stuff in mind kind of trying to keep in mind maybe more quote unquote drought type years or maybe not a lot of snow type years might be a year you want to look at for elk in general. Yeah, I

00:49:59:19 –> 00:50:30:07
Think in general we figured deer would be average at best, but not phenomenal. I mean, I don’t, it feels like we’re spot on. Nobody said feels like Right. We’ve just seen sometimes you get surprised but it feels like there’s no way this was gonna be a surprisingly incredible deer year. Just too dry throughout the fall and winter. That’s good to winter. Well, but they also just take a lot longer it feels like to have their body condition in good shape before they grow. Or elk. Yeah, they bark. I mean they can live on

00:50:30:21 –> 00:50:33:15
Pine needles. Yeah. Lit. Literally they can get on feet.

00:50:33:19 –> 00:50:48:18
I mean it feels like elk and coyotes will live anywhere. Yep. And yeah, good condition is even better. But man, like I said, they wintered easy and they roamed wherever they want. And then we started getting rain in the 1st of March until June, which is exactly when you need it. For real. Yeah. We

00:50:48:18 –> 00:50:50:00
Had some crazy moisture right there

00:50:50:14 –> 00:50:51:23
We don’t normally get. Yep.

00:50:53:07 –> 00:50:56:21
All. Well, Devin, lead us off.

00:50:56:29 –> 00:50:59:15
Lead us off. What are we doing on Monday again? Well,

00:50:59:15 –> 00:51:02:25
We’re gonna side in all of our rifles. Cash is like, are you

00:51:02:25 –> 00:51:03:24
Guys, are you guys going?

00:51:03:27 –> 00:51:05:18
We’re we’re gonna do a, did we say Monday

00:51:05:18 –> 00:51:06:04
Or Tuesday?

00:51:06:16 –> 00:51:17:09
We were thinking more like Tuesday. That’s right Day. But I hate to say it out there. ’cause somebody might be out there painting target heads for us. Oh geez. The cash Logan Cash is cash is like, eh. When are you guys going? I mean, you’ve got rifles. I’ve got rifle.

00:51:17:17 –> 00:51:18:25
I don’t, I don’t have rifles. I

00:51:18:25 –> 00:51:19:11
Do. What do you mean?

00:51:19:15 –> 00:51:22:10
I don’t have a scope for a rifle. I’m waiting on one. Oh,

00:51:22:20 –> 00:51:23:17
What do you need? Cash.

00:51:23:25 –> 00:51:26:06
I, we might have to pull a little tra a little tradey

00:51:26:20 –> 00:51:28:13
To go on. What? Tell me what you’re looking for. I might be

00:51:28:13 –> 00:51:29:09
Able to You what

00:51:29:09 –> 00:51:32:18
You after I, I’ve got one coming, but it hasn’t shipped.

00:51:32:23 –> 00:51:33:09
What is it?

00:51:33:23 –> 00:51:39:01
It’s a secret. You’ll just have to wait and see it. It starts with, it starts with an S, s swirl. Maybe

00:51:39:16 –> 00:51:39:25
Z five.

00:51:40:09 –> 00:51:41:15
It has an S and a

00:51:41:16 –> 00:51:42:12
ZA

00:51:42:12 –> 00:51:43:16
Number and an I. That was a wonderful person.

00:51:43:26 –> 00:51:47:21
An I cinco. What do you put

00:51:49:11 –> 00:51:50:22
What? What rifle? Eight.

00:51:51:00 –> 00:51:52:21
It’s on my seven PC. Yeah,

00:51:52:21 –> 00:51:56:12
That’d be awesome. So I, anyway, and I’ll bring a 300 around. The problem

00:51:56:13 –> 00:51:57:05
Is I have to,

00:51:57:15 –> 00:52:00:16
The one we mounted the scope on, well, let’s cite that sucker in.

00:52:01:07 –> 00:52:01:11
Hmm.

00:52:01:26 –> 00:52:04:18
Right here at the office. We, we did five or six of ’em all one day.

00:52:05:02 –> 00:52:06:10
We did so many. I can, we

00:52:06:10 –> 00:52:08:10
Went, we went, we did so many. I went home and took a nap.

00:52:09:06 –> 00:52:10:10
I’ll bet you, you were over 10.

00:52:10:28 –> 00:52:11:04
I was

00:52:11:04 –> 00:52:11:12
Wiped.

00:52:11:12 –> 00:52:12:06
There was a lot of guns that day.

00:52:12:06 –> 00:52:13:18
There was a lot of guns. I was wiped.

00:52:13:23 –> 00:52:14:29
I had a couple thank you guys for

00:52:15:06 –> 00:52:17:09
Yeah, Bronson butted in line and No I

00:52:17:09 –> 00:52:21:00
Didn’t. No. I was about the sixth and seventh gun the day he

00:52:21:00 –> 00:52:22:22
Handed him into the room and left. He

00:52:22:22 –> 00:52:23:25
Did. He came back to pick him

00:52:23:25 –> 00:52:26:28
Up. He just knows D and J’s got shot

00:52:27:07 –> 00:52:28:22
Was amazing. That’s the most physical

00:52:29:12 –> 00:52:30:09
Labor labor.

00:52:30:09 –> 00:52:31:25
It was brutal. I’ve done in a minute. What

00:52:31:25 –> 00:52:32:28
Do you It was brutal. You guys just

00:52:32:28 –> 00:52:34:21
Did a, the middle of the day, the S Super

00:52:34:25 –> 00:52:35:24
Spartan or whatever they called

00:52:35:26 –> 00:52:38:25
It was so tired. It’s just different. It’s different. Beth.

00:52:40:28 –> 00:52:41:11
It looks

00:52:41:17 –> 00:52:44:17
Just hard. It’s hard ’cause you want ’em. Perfect.

00:52:45:04 –> 00:52:46:25
How late are you guys gonna be out there? Because maybe

00:52:46:27 –> 00:52:48:29
We’re gonna be out there until the job’s done this time.

00:52:49:00 –> 00:52:58:10
Okay. This is what I think I’m gonna do whenever we’re going. ’cause we’re not announcing that here. This is the Beaver County municipal shooting range. That’s right. Beaver County. And

00:52:59:03 –> 00:52:59:29
Not in the brush. I’m

00:52:59:29 –> 00:53:03:21
Exactly. I’m gonna golf nine holes and then I’ll be up there and I’ll be the last one to shoot.

00:53:03:26 –> 00:53:04:05
Okay.

00:53:04:08 –> 00:53:05:19
When you guys have everything dialed

00:53:05:26 –> 00:53:08:01
By that time, we’ll whipping 12. I

00:53:08:01 –> 00:53:10:05
Mean, all I gotta do is shoot at a hundred yards and he’ll be

00:53:10:05 –> 00:53:11:15
Like, this is a grouping. Very good.

00:53:11:27 –> 00:53:12:13
A hundred yards.

00:53:13:05 –> 00:53:19:21
We’ll let you know. We’re gonna have a pile of fierce rifles out there though. I just talked to a member today. He’s going to the shooting school September one.

00:53:19:27 –> 00:53:20:10
Oh, that’s awesome.

00:53:20:10 –> 00:53:22:17
Awesome. Yeah, he’s excited. He’s from back

00:53:22:17 –> 00:53:24:01
East. Are they full on that do you think?

00:53:24:24 –> 00:53:26:15
I think he got one of the last spots

00:53:26:20 –> 00:53:30:12
For that. One of the last, but if not, I guess give him a call. I don’t know. You’ll find they’ll tell you. If not, see if

00:53:30:12 –> 00:53:31:06
There’s other dates here.

00:53:31:19 –> 00:53:32:01
It was.

00:53:32:13 –> 00:53:38:18
They got a bunch. But anyways, he’s going September 1st where he’s gonna, we’re gonna get him a seven PRC set up with a roski.

00:53:39:00 –> 00:53:52:18
Anybody that buys a gun here in a scope, if you want us to set it up for you, we we can. And we’re And Deon Deon’s quality control is out of control. So it will be perfect fun time. It leaves this office. Right Devin? Treat

00:53:52:18 –> 00:53:53:13
It like our own. How about that?

00:53:53:18 –> 00:53:55:04
That’s, that’s what we do. So

00:53:55:15 –> 00:53:55:28
Our logo,

00:53:56:26 –> 00:53:57:16
What is Oh,

00:53:57:26 –> 00:53:58:24
Perfection. Something.

00:53:59:16 –> 00:54:04:01
No, it’s your motto. Your motto. DJ’s gunshot. We are,

00:54:05:00 –> 00:54:06:07
What is it? What did it, we’ve

00:54:06:07 –> 00:54:07:01
Done a few of them now. No,

00:54:07:01 –> 00:54:07:12
We’re getting

00:54:07:12 –> 00:54:08:05
Pretty good at it.

00:54:08:19 –> 00:54:12:24
A it starts with an A. Accurate. Accurate.

00:54:13:27 –> 00:54:14:15
Oh yeah.

00:54:18:03 –> 00:54:19:15
Accurate detail. Perfect.

00:54:20:06 –> 00:54:22:27
A lot of N was the next one. A N.

00:54:23:25 –> 00:54:24:22
What was the N

00:54:25:21 –> 00:54:26:27
Anyway? A DD.

00:54:27:08 –> 00:54:27:22
I’m not gonna say

00:54:27:22 –> 00:54:31:21
Kinda like a deficit disorder. Accurate, detailed.

00:54:32:02 –> 00:54:33:07
All it does did was basically

00:54:33:21 –> 00:54:36:25
Dead and deadly about that. Lethal. Lethal all.

00:54:38:17 –> 00:54:45:00
Anyway, it’s a joke. We’re not doing D j’s gun shop. No. But however, we do treat ’em like our own. Well

00:54:45:07 –> 00:54:52:22
It is also hard if you get a, if you get a call us, you know, Tuesday and you need a gun Friday scope side all in, it’s probably not gonna happen. So

00:54:53:01 –> 00:54:53:25
Well call,

00:54:54:29 –> 00:54:59:17
I’ve got two mountain reapers that need to be shot. Maybe we’ll whip and spur the Corolla over early that night.

00:54:59:21 –> 00:55:01:18
Oh yeah. You’ve already got it set up. Yeah,

00:55:02:00 –> 00:55:04:24
Just throw a bed, roll and shot. Just stay over. I wouldn’t

00:55:04:24 –> 00:55:09:07
Drive over. I love it when Paul buys gear. It’s always in pairs now.

00:55:09:29 –> 00:55:10:07
Cash,

00:55:10:21 –> 00:55:12:03
Just going throw out a bed, roll

00:55:12:06 –> 00:55:15:12
A fan doing that. He likes to just throw out a bed. Roll and sleep where he is going the next day.

00:55:15:24 –> 00:55:18:24
I did and I got That’s nice. Eaten a lot. Nice. So you, so

00:55:18:24 –> 00:55:22:18
You drove up to this Spartan, super Spartan or whatever. I just threw

00:55:22:18 –> 00:55:23:04
My bedroom out.

00:55:23:04 –> 00:55:24:29
Pulled up there at what, 10 or 11 at night and

00:55:25:03 –> 00:55:27:25
Yeah, about 10 o’clock or so. I pulled up, turns out

00:55:27:28 –> 00:55:28:10
I threw your

00:55:28:10 –> 00:55:30:12
Bed out and then you got woken up a couple. It turns

00:55:30:12 –> 00:55:32:28
Out you were in a watershed area that no camping.

00:55:33:03 –> 00:55:37:01
Yeah, no camping in a parking lot. No, you can’t sleep in the parking lot.

00:55:37:19 –> 00:55:39:11
Look like you had the chicken box the next

00:55:39:12 –> 00:55:43:05
Day. So I went and found different spot. Where? Spray. Oh,

00:55:43:05 –> 00:55:47:01
Hold on. Why it’s calling. Oh, hey.

00:55:47:21 –> 00:55:48:21
Hi. What’s going on?

00:55:48:24 –> 00:56:01:25
Well, I’m just wondering, like, I’d like to buy this antelope tag if you’re in. I’m in, but I’d like to do it because I’m gonna forget about doing it. I’m right in the middle of scouting and all my crap. So anyway, I was just, are we doing this or not

00:56:02:22 –> 00:56:03:03
Idaho?

00:56:03:14 –> 00:56:03:23
Yeah.

00:56:04:19 –> 00:56:05:12
When are we gonna go,

00:56:06:06 –> 00:56:07:21
When the, when the season’s on.

00:56:08:13 –> 00:56:15:12
You’re, you’re just mad at antelope right now. Just angry at antelope.

00:56:15:19 –> 00:56:19:04
I don’t know. Adam and Devin are saying that we’re not gonna go. Are we going Wyatt?

00:56:20:08 –> 00:56:21:03
I’d go. I

00:56:24:15 –> 00:56:26:23
Alright all. Well, you

00:56:26:23 –> 00:56:27:11
Got me on a podcast.

00:56:28:07 –> 00:56:30:27
Hey, howdy.

00:56:32:20 –> 00:56:34:13
We we can’t be redoing all our plants.

00:56:34:24 –> 00:56:35:00
Oh,

00:56:36:24 –> 00:56:39:16
Are you headed home yet? Are you still in the shade down there?

00:56:40:00 –> 00:56:44:12
Sip. Are you in the shade? In the back of a truck? Are you fighting to get a boat on the trailer? What are you doing?

00:56:44:28 –> 00:56:50:11
The boat’s on the trailer? I just going through the little town of Hatch right now. It’s raining pretty good.

00:56:50:22 –> 00:56:52:09
Wow. Yeah, it is. Yeah.

00:56:52:18 –> 00:56:57:05
Well that so did yesterday too. Like two inches right there at the junction of 89 and 12.

00:56:58:07 –> 00:56:58:16
Geez.

00:56:58:20 –> 00:57:01:21
Right down. Wow. It’s a lot. Annihilated.

00:57:02:00 –> 00:57:03:19
How about the fires everywhere? What,

00:57:04:04 –> 00:57:09:13
How did your, I mean, has everything come out okay with family’s place on the Monroe?

00:57:10:07 –> 00:57:14:07
Yeah. The, it sounds like the family’s place fared pretty, pretty well. All things considered

00:57:15:06 –> 00:57:15:18
Looked

00:57:15:26 –> 00:57:17:03
Bad’s nearby. Not so much.

00:57:17:20 –> 00:57:17:27
Got

00:57:17:27 –> 00:57:19:09
Really, could have been worse. Lucky

00:57:19:22 –> 00:57:20:07
Probably. Yeah.

00:57:21:05 –> 00:57:23:16
Crazy weather. Crazy weather. Yeah.

00:57:23:24 –> 00:57:29:07
It seems like fires are popping up all over as you kind of walks in the maps and everything like that. So

00:57:30:22 –> 00:57:33:04
I am seriously excited about this antelope. Tag wise,

00:57:33:07 –> 00:57:37:04
I, I think it’s gonna be good. We should probably black out some dates.

00:57:37:18 –> 00:57:37:24
Okay,

00:57:38:13 –> 00:57:38:22
Good.

00:57:39:26 –> 00:57:45:16
It’s opening today again. 10 to 12 days. August 15. You guys remember August, August 15th? You guys remember I did this because of wt

00:57:46:01 –> 00:57:47:07
Remember? Trust me. Yeah.

00:57:47:25 –> 00:57:56:07
And what, what, what? What’s our little motto? What would Wyatt do? Ww wd? Yeah, www D

00:57:56:25 –> 00:57:59:11
Oh, you’re gonna be able to fling some arrows. I’ll promise you that.

00:58:00:08 –> 00:58:04:21
The only things that start doesn’t start the day before the Utah. Yeah. Archery deer 15.

00:58:05:19 –> 00:58:08:10
Yeah. I think it’s a couple days before. We’ll have to look that up.

00:58:08:16 –> 00:58:10:16
So we won’t go right off the bat, but maybe the

00:58:10:16 –> 00:58:11:06
Day before. It’s the day

00:58:11:06 –> 00:58:11:25
Before. Yeah.

00:58:12:21 –> 00:58:13:10
Jason’s out.

00:58:13:10 –> 00:58:14:10
What are we for

00:58:14:20 –> 00:58:23:29
That day? But we podcast. Well, I don’t know. We’re just, you’re gonna go up there for 24 hours. Gonna go up there. No, we’re gonna go later in the season. Smashing. Grab. Oh, I mean, well,

00:58:24:04 –> 00:58:29:29
Sounds like you guys got some things to work iron out. So just like we’ve been saying for four months,

00:58:30:27 –> 00:58:38:15
Somebody owes me some application fees if they’re not going, somebody owe me some money. What’s that? 8, 18 75.

00:58:38:15 –> 00:58:39:28
Let’s, let’s buy it. Put it on the calendar.

00:58:40:01 –> 00:58:42:00
That’s what I think. Whoa. Really? That’s what I think.

00:58:42:00 –> 00:58:45:10
Alright, give us your last four of your social and birthday. Why? We’ll do a good thing.

00:58:46:03 –> 00:58:47:19
Get it done for me. That’s right.

00:58:48:07 –> 00:58:50:01
Well it’s raining bad though, huh?

00:58:51:08 –> 00:58:53:24
Yes. It’s coming. Coming down pretty good. So,

00:58:54:10 –> 00:58:56:19
All right. Are you excited for the year, Wyatt?

00:58:57:13 –> 00:58:59:24
I am ready. Ready to kick it off. So it’s

00:58:59:24 –> 00:59:07:25
Gonna be awesome all we’ll let you go. These guys just see these guys won’t lay off me at this antelope tag. Especially Bronson. Well it’s

00:59:07:25 –> 00:59:28:13
Just, we were talking, we had a good podcast or these day a husband and wife had a pair of mule deer tags in Nevada. Killed a couple 30 inches with the bow. And we’re just talking about like the rarity of to have two good tags with let alone husband and wife, but even just two buddies. And then, then it dawned on me, I know two buddies with two tags together same time. And you guys could do something like that.

00:59:28:24 –> 00:59:30:09
We could do that. Wyatt, you and I.

00:59:31:06 –> 00:59:33:10
Yeah, it takes two. Two boomers with our bows.

00:59:33:14 –> 00:59:35:04
Yeah, yeah, of course there.

00:59:36:04 –> 00:59:40:09
Did he say Boer? I think it’s like a 68 inch A. Is it what? What’s

00:59:40:09 –> 00:59:41:24
Minimum? What’s P? What’s p and y minimum?

00:59:42:00 –> 00:59:44:04
Yeah, that, that’s what we’re talking about. P and YI

00:59:44:04 –> 00:59:46:18
Guess we’ll go with, is it 68 inches? Is it

00:59:46:18 –> 00:59:47:24
Even even 60? Maybe

00:59:47:24 –> 00:59:50:21
It’s even 60 I, I don’t dunno what it’s for. Sure, but it’s not, not big.

00:59:50:28 –> 00:59:52:04
Hey, any antelope

00:59:52:07 –> 00:59:56:23
Chat that right? Real quick. I, I think it’s easy to do. You

00:59:56:23 –> 01:00:02:23
Could chat team. PTPY minimum for antelope or pronghorn. PNY minimum pronghorn.

01:00:02:25 –> 01:00:05:12
I don’t know. 68 sticks in my head. Maybe it 70. If it’s

01:00:05:12 –> 01:00:07:23
68, that might be a little too significant for what

01:00:07:23 –> 01:00:08:22
We’re, does it even need a

01:00:09:02 –> 01:00:09:22
67?

01:00:10:03 –> 01:00:15:01
Does it even need a prong to get to 67 or eight inches? It could be a yearling spike. Well,

01:00:15:15 –> 01:00:15:21
I mean,

01:00:16:03 –> 01:00:16:12
I don’t know.

01:00:16:18 –> 01:00:18:12
It seems like about any antelope. Buck.

01:00:18:26 –> 01:00:19:05
Buck.

01:00:19:08 –> 01:00:20:22
Did we decide it was 67?

01:00:21:06 –> 01:00:22:06
Oh, 60.

01:00:22:18 –> 01:00:23:05
67.

01:00:23:12 –> 01:00:25:28
Wow. Wyatt 80 Wyatt’s looked into it.

01:00:26:18 –> 01:00:28:25
15 inches smaller than a rifle. Hey

01:00:28:25 –> 01:00:31:10
There’s even an example of one there. That one looks pretty good

01:00:32:00 –> 01:00:35:12
Then. 80 inches for awards. 82 for all time. Does

01:00:35:12 –> 01:00:37:06
That turn that turn his crank?

01:00:37:19 –> 01:00:39:13
I think he, this is attainable. Don’t see you

01:00:39:13 –> 01:00:40:19
Some 80. 80 plusers.

01:00:41:23 –> 01:00:44:09
Well the 67. I’m just saying that

01:00:44:09 –> 01:00:45:15
Don’t, did I say 80 plus?

01:00:45:26 –> 01:00:46:05
What

01:00:46:18 –> 01:00:48:10
Did you say? What’d you say? About 80 plus? He

01:00:48:10 –> 01:00:50:28
Said, I said I think we’re gonna have a hard time digging an 80 plus out.

01:00:51:20 –> 01:00:52:16
Jason perked up.

01:00:53:03 –> 01:00:56:25
I thought he was kinda like saying 200. I thought, I thought I heard weeding

01:00:56:25 –> 01:00:58:11
Through 80 inches is what I heard.

01:00:59:14 –> 01:01:04:16
We’re gonna spend a grand or two to get there and back. It better be something significant.

01:01:05:07 –> 01:01:07:11
Well we’re bringing back the best meat on the planet.

01:01:07:28 –> 01:01:08:16
According

01:01:08:19 –> 01:01:11:10
Devon’s already got the donation slip ready for guys to sign.

01:01:12:22 –> 01:01:12:29
You

01:01:13:03 –> 01:01:14:22
Gonna drop them off on Archibald’s

01:01:14:22 –> 01:01:17:23
Porch? Yeah, they better be on ice. Wyatt. And they better die quick.

01:01:18:00 –> 01:01:19:17
Better not have run be around.

01:01:19:27 –> 01:01:20:21
It takes you more than

01:01:21:00 –> 01:01:21:25
Three euros

01:01:23:07 –> 01:01:25:15
In a few hours to kill ’em. I, I’m out.

01:01:26:21 –> 01:01:28:29
It definitely changes. I like that game. Definitely changes.

01:01:29:09 –> 01:01:32:15
It doesn’t die within 30 seconds after you’ll never,

01:01:32:15 –> 01:01:34:24
You’ll never know him. The full story. You’ll just have him on your porch.

01:01:35:26 –> 01:01:37:10
Wyatts is gonna be amazing eating.

01:01:38:05 –> 01:01:39:12
I will out town man. Sorry.

01:01:39:12 –> 01:01:43:19
You’ll never know until the first time Miranda throws us couple steaks past.

01:01:44:00 –> 01:01:47:04
Oh you’ll know you, you just do the sniff test. That’s what I,

01:01:47:13 –> 01:01:48:16
You’ll never know until that

01:01:48:20 –> 01:01:52:03
Start to just make burger out of it. Well I’d beef tall. It’ll be just fine. It

01:01:52:03 –> 01:01:53:03
Ain’t good enough. Yeah,

01:01:53:06 –> 01:01:55:15
It’ll be just fine for antelope spaghetti.

01:01:56:07 –> 01:01:58:19
Alright. Alright Wyatt, drive safe.

01:01:59:11 –> 01:01:59:25
Alright,

01:02:00:12 –> 01:02:00:25
See you Monday.

01:02:01:02 –> 01:02:01:09
Bye.

01:02:03:13 –> 01:02:11:03
I’m glad, I’m glad he answer. I always like to get Wyatt when he’s a little off guard. Just you feel like he did. That’s a win.

01:02:11:09 –> 01:02:12:01
Can’t catch you.

01:02:12:07 –> 01:02:14:16
It’s a slight win. Like, I think so. So,

01:02:14:24 –> 01:02:22:23
Oh he’s, you just hear that tone of voice that says indecisiveness. You’re on your own indecisive. And I don’t know why we did it. That’s what it says.

01:02:23:09 –> 01:02:24:06
This is your idea. Idea.

01:02:24:09 –> 01:02:25:09
I it. Yeah. What do you mean?

01:02:25:10 –> 01:02:31:22
Anyway? Anyway. Well, well I don’t know. I think you ought get those hoyts up there and put ’em be Let’s Carter. Let’s do it. You guys got, I think

01:02:31:27 –> 01:02:33:25
You see my, you got, did you see my Gary? Yeah. You got

01:02:33:28 –> 01:02:36:03
RX nine in there with your name on. I know. Ready

01:02:36:03 –> 01:02:37:04
To go the box and make sure

01:02:37:09 –> 01:02:39:11
It’s there. It’s loaded for bear. Wyatt’s got a

01:02:39:11 –> 01:02:41:22
Truck hemp season. Nothing gets done. Seven.

01:02:41:22 –> 01:02:42:11
But yeah

01:02:42:19 –> 01:02:43:16
He does. Wyatt does.

01:02:44:09 –> 01:02:49:07
So their motto is the best. Shoot Hoyt. So you guys are part of that crew. Go get it done.

01:02:49:15 –> 01:02:50:25
These guys are the best right here.

01:02:51:03 –> 01:02:51:09
I know

01:02:52:03 –> 01:02:53:10
The guys in the ad. No, just the

01:02:53:11 –> 01:02:56:12
Ho’s that looks the ho’s motto is the best. Shoot. Ho

01:02:56:12 –> 01:02:59:18
Cameron. That’s Cameron Haynes. That ain’t Wyatt.

01:03:00:28 –> 01:03:01:28
I know it’s not Wyatt.

01:03:02:04 –> 01:03:02:22
I’m saying the

01:03:03:06 –> 01:03:04:18
Hoyt’s motto is the

01:03:04:18 –> 01:03:07:25
Best. Shoot Hoit. You guys are the best. Go do it. I must have tried to,

01:03:08:18 –> 01:03:14:21
Speaking of poll, you’ve been getting some looks of some critters. You’ve been phone scoping

01:03:14:21 –> 01:03:15:17
Stuff the crap out of them.

01:03:15:19 –> 01:03:18:13
Yeah. It’s a good thing that stuff’s quick and easy to put on. ’cause you’ve been

01:03:18:13 –> 01:03:24:13
Using your SRO on, on the Quick and Go or a Tcsc or coa. Little

01:03:24:15 –> 01:03:27:05
Coa. Yeah, that little co on. What’d you do with the little on the window one?

01:03:27:20 –> 01:03:29:16
Got women and children. It’s somewhere. Yeah,

01:03:29:21 –> 01:03:59:06
Yeah. We know. I got a friend that has that one now. So what what happened was I had a friend that took that, that a TC on a hunt and really loved that thing for back country. Like, you know, he was taking his horse in and stuff. Just needed a scope to get a little extra magnification over his twelves. And so he really wanted that. And I kind of needed to be a mild pirate, I guess you could say sometimes. ’cause the, I don’t know if you know the distance of a Corolla window, but it’s pretty small. So to try and get

01:03:59:13 –> 01:03:59:29
Not to fit your

01:04:00:04 –> 01:04:00:17
Forehead Yeah,

01:04:00:19 –> 01:04:01:12
Try to try and get

01:04:01:12 –> 01:04:01:21
Ahead,

01:04:01:21 –> 01:04:03:03
Especially through an angled scope.

01:04:03:19 –> 01:04:04:05
Oh, it co

01:04:04:12 –> 01:04:05:01
It was angled.

01:04:05:05 –> 01:04:05:29
Yeah, it was angled.

01:04:05:29 –> 01:04:07:07
And so you went to a straight I went to

01:04:07:07 –> 01:04:07:10
A

01:04:07:17 –> 01:04:09:17
Straight, I’m picking up what you’re putting down.

01:04:09:22 –> 01:04:18:06
So I went to the straight so I could use it off a window mount a little easier. Yeah. So, but yeah, it’s been great. But those bucks, they hit the trees before the sun hits ’em. Do you have

01:04:18:06 –> 01:04:20:11
This before the engine in that thing? Or you just let it

01:04:20:12 –> 01:04:25:21
Pur? Oh no, it it, it kind of growls these days it’s got like 500,000 miles on it. Yeah,

01:04:25:21 –> 01:04:30:00
Well when it stops at 2 99, 9 99, who knows what it’s got? Yeah,

01:04:30:10 –> 01:04:31:09
That’s the least of my worries.

01:04:31:13 –> 01:04:34:03
The good thing is, is you don’t have to pass any inspections anymore.

01:04:34:08 –> 01:04:44:07
No, no. But when you’re parked precariously wrong direction of the highway and semis are rolling up on you and anyway, gotta

01:04:44:07 –> 01:04:50:17
Be quick. All right. So yeah, we’ve seen them. Pauls been phone scope and stuff. If you didn’t phone scope it, it didn’t happen. Exactly.

01:04:50:19 –> 01:04:53:22
That’s the first thing. Oh, I saw a good buck this morning. Where’s the video

01:04:54:07 –> 01:04:55:27
Head? Where’s the video? I

01:04:55:27 –> 01:05:05:22
Mean he, he talks about that buck you saw a couple days ago that you said didn’t have Jack for points, but had a little bit of Yeah. Wit, I wanna see that video on Monday. He

01:05:05:22 –> 01:05:07:15
Might be 30. I’m gonna have to find him. Wow.

01:05:07:18 –> 01:05:11:27
What? Yeah, come on. You didn’t tell me about this. Yeah, it’s significant.

01:05:12:13 –> 01:05:48:06
Yeah, he was, he went for a hike on that one, but it’s not these our highway bug. Yeah. By guard, basal and a two point basal. Really shanks. Yeah. He doesn’t know if it’s just forking the G four and the beam and it’s yet to fork the G two three off yet or not, but just a big G picture that you got. Video or no, no, no. That’s it. That’s the assignment for the weekend. Yep. I’m gonna try. All right. Well anyway, I think that’s about it, but hey, hopefully that was a check the box logging for us today. We did our job. You are

01:05:48:06 –> 01:05:49:11
Good. You can get paid

01:05:49:29 –> 01:05:50:23
Epic out.
