Alaska limiting people going to their state.

00:00:04:19 –> 00:00:06:28
I’m gonna die without that Brown Bear Flank state.

00:00:07:08 –> 00:00:09:16
I’m a connoisseur of fine antelope Hunting

00:00:09:23 –> 00:00:12:09

00:00:13:02 –> 00:00:14:11
Anything to do with Western big Games.

00:00:17:23 –> 00:00:21:09
Welcome to the Epic Outdoors Podcast, powered by Under Armour.

00:00:22:00 –> 00:00:29:11
Hey everybody. Jason Carter. Adam Bronson coming at you from southern Utah, sunny southern Utah this morning. Chris, how you doing?

00:00:29:23 –> 00:00:30:24
I’m good. You good?

00:00:30:26 –> 00:00:36:14
We got Chris here. You make sure we don’t say things we’re not supposed to. Right. We appreciate you Chris. Makes sound

00:00:36:14 –> 00:00:40:06
Good. Look good and safe space. No, you can’t see us right now.

00:00:41:00 –> 00:00:47:12
All that between him and my wife, podcasts are generally acceptable for That’s right. Casual listening.

00:00:47:14 –> 00:00:55:17
Jason and I have decided we don’t need to hire a legal team to, to back us up on whatever we say on a podcast. We’ve got Chris and Jana.

00:00:55:18 –> 00:01:01:16
It’d be like Becky if she listened to a podcast. Bronson, you’re not. She is not letting things slide.

00:01:02:05 –> 00:01:02:11
Marginal

00:01:03:05 –> 00:01:10:15
Content gonna go. Content is otherwise hitting the floor. So anyway, we’d like to thank Under Armour. Now we’re on to something

00:01:10:16 –> 00:01:12:17
Other than Colorado. Please,

00:01:13:01 –> 00:01:13:14
Please.

00:01:13:25 –> 00:01:15:21
Is that where we’re at? I, the

00:01:15:21 –> 00:01:38:00
Last grinder I had, guy was working me over about what unit? One second rifle versus 55 muzzle. Two whole different hunt. Super good guy. I get where he is going with it. He can hunt any weapon type. He wants to have the best opportunity, but man, you’re talking about low densities, higher densities, velvet above timberline, below Timberline. There’s just lots and lots of options.

00:01:38:00 –> 00:01:50:20
Different, lots of different, oh, huh? That’s right. You factor in two to three rifle hunts. Four in some units with a high country archery muzzle. Some units have six deer season. Do you realize that?

00:01:51:21 –> 00:01:51:28
No.

00:01:52:19 –> 00:01:52:29
Early

00:01:52:29 –> 00:01:57:00
Rifle, archery muzzle. How deer live is beyond me. Huh?

00:01:58:05 –> 00:02:13:22
That’s right. And one that does is pretty special. You want, you wanna keep them living again. Like if you did it, you ran that gauntlet for, for six hunts. Man, you deserve to grow old. Gee,

00:02:13:26 –> 00:02:15:17
Let ’em live. Good grace.

00:02:15:24 –> 00:02:16:12
Anyway, but,

00:02:16:14 –> 00:02:33:04
So I’ve got some deer mounts and you do too, from Colorado. And I’m starting to wonder, are they gonna be special and important because maybe they’re the last deer we have mounted from the state of Colorado, the way they issue tags and kill deer. Huh? Tell me I’m wrong. I don’t, I don’t think,

00:02:33:04 –> 00:02:37:06
Tell me I’m wrong. My prediction. I’m going out on a limb right now.

00:02:37:12 –> 00:02:37:21
Come

00:02:37:21 –> 00:02:40:28
On. Somebody in the office. Maybe two of us are gonna shoot mounts this year.

00:02:41:21 –> 00:02:43:26
Antelope? No. Mount antelope.

00:02:44:01 –> 00:02:47:17
No, I was talking deer. But hey, since you brought it up,

00:02:48:20 –> 00:02:49:22
It’s on my mind. It’s

00:02:49:22 –> 00:02:54:23
Over. It’s over. And and have you pushed your chips to the center? Oh yeah. And cashed in your animal.

00:02:54:23 –> 00:02:55:23
Oh, I’m killing an animal.

00:02:56:03 –> 00:02:59:22
All right, Colorado, how many do you have, by the way? 18. Oh yeah.

00:03:00:05 –> 00:03:05:07
And you know why I would have a lot more, except for a ga in the middle of, like, in the middle. I was like, I got

00:03:05:07 –> 00:03:06:18
Enough to draw whenever I want. And

00:03:07:02 –> 00:03:08:18
Why would I do such a thing? I don’t even,

00:03:09:09 –> 00:03:10:02
You can’t want

00:03:10:02 –> 00:03:16:02
To hunt animal. You can’t. And so that’s how you know now you can’t even, I’m a connoisseur. You a fine animal pudding.

00:03:16:29 –> 00:03:19:10
You can’t even explain how you got 18

00:03:19:10 –> 00:03:28:05
Points. I don’t know how some of ’em are for the nineties. They are. They are. I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be honest. That’s right. So anyway, whatever. But

00:03:28:19 –> 00:03:36:18
We did come across a couple of things doing research, like some muzz loader hunts that take five points to draw here and there. Weird things. You’re like, no shit.

00:03:36:18 –> 00:03:37:26
What are you talking about? Oh,

00:03:37:26 –> 00:03:38:25
You’re the one that told me.

00:03:38:28 –> 00:03:40:16
Oh, that’s right. Well, the antelope,

00:03:41:21 –> 00:03:45:02
All of a sudden were thinking, oh, geez. And then I turned to maybe you should have some points.

00:03:45:03 –> 00:03:50:04
And then I turned to Yale, don’t have Bronson. How many antelope points do you have? And you’re like, what? What’d you say?

00:03:51:14 –> 00:03:51:23
Zero.

00:03:53:28 –> 00:03:55:19
You’re not sorry. I mean,

00:03:55:29 –> 00:03:56:19
Wish, wish I,

00:03:57:15 –> 00:04:01:23
You make a living gaining and applying and gaining points.

00:04:02:06 –> 00:04:13:14
Colorado antelope is one of those gaps that have just not been on my priority list. That’s just simply the way it is. So anyway, but having said that, Colorado’s in the rear view mirror.

00:04:13:19 –> 00:04:29:22
Yes it is. Thankfully the mu Let’s just finish that. Okay. Top that, that subject you brought up about muzz, that’s in the rutt. Guys are calling ’em in. They’re, they’re decoy them in and shooting ’em outta self-defense and kind of fun, you know, kind of got me fired up. Well, and

00:04:29:28 –> 00:04:40:04
Muzzle loaders aren’t the most, it’s not the most friendly muzzle state you gotta use full bore bullets. Lose powder, lose powder, open sight. So it’s not, it’s not

00:04:40:07 –> 00:04:42:00
A, you mean it’s actually primitive weapon?

00:04:42:02 –> 00:04:45:17
Yeah. More so. Yeah. But if they’re running you over, you can smoke. That

00:04:45:17 –> 00:04:48:04
Just doesn’t seem, in this day and age, you can feel like I should be entitled to

00:04:48:08 –> 00:04:50:02
Smoking their eyes and they can’t get

00:04:50:05 –> 00:04:50:29
Away. Use what I want.

00:04:51:10 –> 00:04:51:23
That’s

00:04:51:23 –> 00:05:00:17
Right. I’m, I am more out of these states that are just letting people use whatever muzzle order they want. I’m tired of it. Any power, anything. Analyze

00:05:01:03 –> 00:05:05:13
Thermal imaging. You name it. I mean, just go on and on. What, what more can you

00:05:05:13 –> 00:05:26:28
Add? Well, there’s a lot of states that are going away from that. Yes. But then some states don’t even want to touch it because there’s 14 other things that need to be addressed, such as, you know, cell phone, trail cams and baiting. And, and so then if you touch one of them, you gotta touch ’em all. And what about long distance rifles and all of which hurt game.

00:05:27:12 –> 00:05:46:24
Yeah. Right. Hold on. And then, then hunters us. We’ll just say people, hunters are quick to complain when there’s not quality after all the hunts are over that we’re wanting to have. And we look at what we’re using as equipment, as gear has everything. And we’re hard on ’em,

00:05:47:03 –> 00:06:04:28
On so many guys. How many times did you have guys? Do you really think these late season dates are gonna hurt deer in Colorado? And I’m thinking, well, we hunt ’em before the rutt, during the rut, after the rutt with long range rifles. And we’re good at it. We’re good at killing stuff. Yeah. It’s gonna hurt ’em.

00:06:05:09 –> 00:06:11:18
It is. Well, let’s talk about a couple of other things. Let’s talk about real quick news. News of interest.

00:06:11:29 –> 00:06:16:26
Let’s not say the word Colorado. Just wanna make a deal. Okay. Let not say the word Colorado

00:06:17:14 –> 00:06:18:19
For the rest of this podcast,

00:06:18:20 –> 00:06:25:20
For the next four or five podcasts. Deal. So done. Deal. So done. Not just deer, sheep, goat moves.

00:06:25:20 –> 00:06:26:22
Yeah, it’s all, it’s all done

00:06:27:17 –> 00:06:27:24
Nannies.

00:06:28:01 –> 00:06:29:20
It’s all, it’s all good. Everything.

00:06:29:21 –> 00:06:30:00
Okay.

00:06:30:00 –> 00:06:34:29
Shouldn’t need to talk about it until early May when one, we draw sheep tags.

00:06:35:01 –> 00:06:36:13
Yeah. People looking for guides,

00:06:36:13 –> 00:06:37:14
Keeping optimistic. All right.

00:06:37:18 –> 00:06:38:25
Where are we? Where are we at now?

00:06:39:03 –> 00:07:06:17
No, we’re just gonna talk about a couple of changes that you might’ve heard about, maybe haven’t Idaho in an attempt to stop non-residents to coming to Idaho for this, at least the short term fishing, hunting, Turkey, spring bear, wolves, whatever they’ve suspended non-resident license sales for the time being. Clarification on that, you can still buy your non-resident hunting license at Apply.

00:07:06:24 –> 00:07:07:16
I just did it. You did.

00:07:07:16 –> 00:07:08:04
That’s a fact.

00:07:08:07 –> 00:07:09:22
So Bronson people said,

00:07:09:22 –> 00:07:16:00
Hey, I, the odds are gonna be incredible. If you bought your license already for moose, sheep, and goat, you’re the only one that’s gonna be in Not

00:07:16:00 –> 00:07:16:28
True. Not true.

00:07:17:09 –> 00:07:20:08
And we tried it. We sacrificed your credit card.

00:07:20:16 –> 00:07:33:23
I know, I know. I’m sitting right before Rods is like, well get your wallet out. I know we can do it. It said we can do it. Okay. The news release said we could do it, but we actually have to do it to, to really with confidence on the podcast. Say that we did it.

00:07:33:26 –> 00:07:34:20
And you got your three

00:07:35:17 –> 00:07:46:06
I my three days a fish. I I’m not a fisherman. Anybody knows me knows. I mean, I’m not a fisherman. He’s, so, he’s a, I chose October 6th. I don’t know what I’m doing. October 6th.

00:07:46:06 –> 00:07:47:13
You’re a er, not a surfer. Yeah.

00:07:48:01 –> 00:08:00:11
Come on. So anyway, I went on and I bought my $154 non-resident hang license and I’m gonna apply for sheep, goat, or moose. Yeah, actually, sheep or goat. I, I’ve drawn

00:08:00:11 –> 00:08:15:10
Moose. So that just hit over the weekend. They had a commission meeting, I believe. And it’s just to stop the movement of people coming to Idaho. They’re, they’re gonna lose money for it. They know. But in this covid 19 time we’re in right now, yeah.

00:08:15:10 –> 00:08:17:14
They’re stop. They’re us from hotting, the wolves and bears in the spring.

00:08:17:19 –> 00:08:19:06
Yeah. We were gonna go up. Yeah,

00:08:19:06 –> 00:08:29:06
Seriously. We were. And so now here we are and I don’t know, did you hear ’em on the news there? That tiger in the zoo that caught c Ovid 19? Oh yeah. There’s, he’s got a dry cough and everything. Where,

00:08:30:02 –> 00:08:30:12
Where

00:08:30:17 –> 00:08:35:01
You Google it, I’m telling you it happened. Is this, there is officially this frier

00:08:35:04 –> 00:08:38:20
Tiger King freaking crap we’re talking about. No, that, no,

00:08:38:21 –> 00:08:48:19
That, that guy’s special in and of himself. Okay. This is a different situation. A random zoo had a tiger that con con in the states. I’ve got my computer here, I’m gonna pull

00:08:48:19 –> 00:08:49:00
It up in the

00:08:49:00 –> 00:08:54:08
States. In the States. And the other tigers are now dry ha hacking too New York. And I’m just

00:08:54:08 –> 00:08:56:07
Saying New York. Come on. So

00:08:56:07 –> 00:08:57:04
You knew about it too. Yeah.

00:08:57:07 –> 00:09:00:02
And so it jumped from people to cat the Bronx

00:09:00:09 –> 00:09:05:06
Zoo. So my point is, maybe Idaho’s worried about us giving their bears and wolves

00:09:05:11 –> 00:09:08:05
Covid 19. Well, they should let us to come so they’d wipe ’em out.

00:09:08:17 –> 00:09:14:22
Well, now what? They don’t wanna wipe ’em out. They wanna save them. Well, they wanna save them. They’re grizzlies and everything else.

00:09:15:14 –> 00:09:26:14
Well anyway, so if you’re getting the news release, you got the email, don’t worry. It’s not gonna stop your ability to apply in Idaho for Moshe and Goat or later on for the darl can Antelope? No,

00:09:26:14 –> 00:09:28:04
I’ve got my hunting license number and I did it this morning.

00:09:28:15 –> 00:09:34:25
So, so it is not worthy. We’re getting a few calls on that. Anyway, what else?

00:09:35:24 –> 00:09:38:02
Well, the other thing, you know, spring

00:09:38:02 –> 00:09:39:25
Bear hunting and, and other places has

00:09:39:25 –> 00:09:44:28
Been and Spring Turkey, like they’re, they’re getting a, they’re getting a free pass in a lot of places.

00:09:45:00 –> 00:09:47:22
What about Alaska? In fact, let’s call somebody on that. Let’s call

00:09:47:23 –> 00:09:50:04
Justin Schafer of Q u. Let’s see

00:09:50:04 –> 00:09:50:25
If he answers. You

00:09:50:25 –> 00:09:51:29
Think he’s even awake? Come on.

00:09:52:05 –> 00:09:59:09
I don’t know. It is 9:00 AM He’s, that’s way beyond anybody’s sacred space and time.

00:09:59:25 –> 00:10:06:19
I would think 9:00 AM up there. Yeah. Let’s see if he even answers. You got something you’re gonna give him a little bit of a hard time? No, we’re

00:10:06:19 –> 00:10:13:11
Just gonna find out what it’s like. Of course you’re quarantined in Alaska all winter long anyway.

00:10:13:29 –> 00:10:14:22
It’s gotta be a long

00:10:14:22 –> 00:10:16:17
Winter’s up there, amigo. Good morning. Hey,

00:10:16:24 –> 00:10:17:28
Good morning. What are you doing?

00:10:18:23 –> 00:10:23:02
What’s up guys? I’m logging product quotes into a Word document. Oh, come

00:10:23:02 –> 00:10:24:14
On. Sounds fun. Not

00:10:24:14 –> 00:10:27:08
Sounds like you can tell us the truth. We’re not your boss. It’s

00:10:27:23 –> 00:10:30:27
Exciting stuff. Well, I’m not wearing any pants if that makes you more excited. Oh,

00:10:31:24 –> 00:10:34:26
You’re on the epic. You’re on, you’re on the Epic Outdoors podcast.

00:10:35:01 –> 00:10:35:26
We got a hot mic.

00:10:36:04 –> 00:10:37:22
That’s about all we need to know. Justin

00:10:38:23 –> 00:10:40:25
Hot height, we do the kitchen table.

00:10:41:04 –> 00:10:54:17
You are quarantined in Alaska all winter long anyway, without this Covid 19 stuff. But now this is double whammy and total spreadsheets and word documents. That’s doesn’t sound like living the

00:10:54:17 –> 00:10:56:29
Dream of what I, doing what I do. All

00:10:56:29 –> 00:10:57:01
Right.

00:10:57:02 –> 00:11:00:20
Geez. Are you glad that non-residents aren’t gonna be up there flooding your,

00:11:00:20 –> 00:11:00:26
Your

00:11:00:26 –> 00:11:03:01
Bears? Just be honest with us. You’re glad, aren’t you?

00:11:03:20 –> 00:11:21:28
Yeah, I am not because I’ve got non-resident clients that are supposed to come in and go brown bear hunting with me. Yeah. But right now that’s not until they show up June 6th and right now the, the band runs through May 31st. But we’ll see what happens is, you guys know this thing’s changing Yeah. Every day. So. Well,

00:11:21:28 –> 00:11:24:07
That’s what we want to call You get it from a,

00:11:24:20 –> 00:11:25:16
The horse’s mouth.

00:11:25:22 –> 00:11:26:07
I, I don’t

00:11:26:10 –> 00:11:26:28
From a source.

00:11:27:10 –> 00:11:29:01
Yeah, from a source of intelligent

00:11:29:01 –> 00:11:29:17
Horse hate

00:11:30:07 –> 00:11:32:03
A source, not the source. That’s

00:11:32:03 –> 00:12:03:02
Right. Well, we don’t wanna call Alaska Game of Fish department headquarters. We figured you’d know just as well as anybody. Give us a little update on what they did. We have a few people concerned, some people that have drawn tags, you know, some of the southeast Alaska bear bear hunters, I guess, I don’t know, I guess they’re not going hunting this spring, but they had the opportunity, they did have the opportunity to hunt last fall in theory. Although most people, when they draw some of those bear tags, you can hunt the fall through the spring. And so I guess they’re just gonna be out, I guess.

00:12:04:00 –> 00:12:56:29
Yeah, I’m not sure. So the initial drama, the middle of last week, the governor held a press conference and canceled all spring bear hunting, black and brown bear for resident and non-resident through May 31st. And then the following day at his five o’clock press press conference, they refined what they had done. And they said that it was closed to non-residents, but, and opened backup up for residents. But all residents within the state had to obey the current travel restrictions that are in place right now. So basically all residents were not allowed to travel, you know, within village to village or city to city. We have to remain, you know, within the, the six feet guidance that they’ve given and then with the, the lockdown as well. So basically they open it up so that you can hunt your localized areas, but they don’t want anybody traveling anywhere at this time.

00:12:57:23 –> 00:13:07:06
So guys are just so happen to be lucky that they live in a good area and other people are not so lucky. They usually travel, but not so lucky guys are just screwed this year.

00:13:08:01 –> 00:13:10:22
Yeah. Yeah. So myself included, I, yeah,

00:13:10:23 –> 00:13:13:07
I had a, yeah, don’t you have a Peninsula Bear Hunt Peninsula?

00:13:13:07 –> 00:13:39:25
Yeah, peninsula Brown Bear Hunt. I was scheduled to fly into Team Salmon on May 7th and into the field May 8th after my four year weight from, from taking my last bear. So that’s kind of in limbo right now with the travel restrictions. The travel restrictions were pushed through indefinitely, so there’s no date on those at the moment. But I’ve got, you know, a, a good area that we hunt that’s only an hour and a half north from the house here. And, and we would meet all of the restrictions that are in place that that’s

00:13:39:25 –> 00:13:42:26
Village to that meets the village to village requirement.

00:13:43:25 –> 00:13:46:00
Yeah, yeah. Of, of traveling within. So

00:13:46:10 –> 00:13:52:02
You fly over the village to an obscure landing strip somewhere, 55 gallon drum or whatever of fuel

00:13:52:14 –> 00:13:53:20
Over the river and through the woods.

00:13:54:18 –> 00:14:03:18
I I, I’ve, I’ve got a place that’s accessible by four-wheeler that’s only about an hour and a half away. And, and like I said, meets with all the, the imposed travel restrictions at the moment. So

00:14:03:21 –> 00:14:13:11
Let’s just be honest, what are they gonna, let’s say you did, you did go walk into a village and get a sandwich, you know, what are they gonna do to you? What are they gonna do to you? I don’t, let’s be honest.

00:14:14:04 –> 00:14:26:12
So, so the, the fines and, and jail time that they’ve imposed for, for people that are, you know, going out and, and completely ignoring everything are, are pretty, pretty stiff. Last I heard

00:14:27:18 –> 00:14:29:22
Gel Gel and Bethel Fucked Gel and Bethel

00:14:30:04 –> 00:14:31:04
Gel and Bethel. Yeah, there

00:14:31:04 –> 00:14:33:19
You go. That’d be bad. No, they’re,

00:14:33:19 –> 00:14:43:16
They’re, they’re, they’re taking it pretty strict. But I mean obviously it’s, it’s something that, you know, is new for everybody, so it’s gonna be hard to enforce, hard enforce and, you know, they’re just asking people to do what’s

00:14:43:16 –> 00:14:43:22
Right,

00:14:43:22 –> 00:14:48:23
The right thing, right nows yeah, yeah, yeah. Just, you know, it’s morally right for everybody.

00:14:49:03 –> 00:15:08:16
What did the, give me an idea of how loud was the gnashing of teeth during that 12 to 24 hour period? Oh, it was between press conference number one and press conference number two. And he said, okay, no residents can still hunt. How loud was the gnashing of teeth around the streets was of Alaska. It

00:15:08:16 –> 00:15:28:23
Period was pretty loud from the time that they announced it. You know, my phone blew up nonstop with guys asking questions then guys venting residents and non-residents. And then as I’m sure you guys saw, social media was in a complete uproar. Oh yeah. You know, their immediately petitions, you know, sign this to Oh yeah. To the governor to do that.

00:15:29:07 –> 00:15:34:17
Pretty soon everybody needed brown bear meat for subsistence seeding. That was the claim, right?

00:15:34:23 –> 00:15:39:01
Yeah. Yeah. Hundred percent. I need that brown bear.

00:15:39:15 –> 00:15:42:01
I’m gonna die without that brown bear f flank steak. They’ve

00:15:42:01 –> 00:15:44:04
Told me I was gonna die eating it, now I’m gonna die without.

00:15:44:27 –> 00:15:55:17
Yeah, exactly. So, and then the, the next day when they revised the restrictions on the press conference, obviously there were a lot of, lot of residents that were Yeah. Pretty stoked about change.

00:15:55:17 –> 00:15:58:19
That governor’s gonna, that governor’s gonna be reelected. No,

00:15:59:17 –> 00:16:00:04
Pretty much.

00:16:00:15 –> 00:16:06:04
Yeah. We’ll see what happens. So he’s got, he’s got a lot of, a lot of on, on both sides, so

00:16:06:08 –> 00:16:24:02
Yeah. Well sure. Well we just, we knew we dropped in on you unannounced, but we kind are doing that. I don’t know, it’s a little thing now and it, it’s, we haven’t had to call the same person twice yet. So today we caught you off guard. Maybe next time you’ll be screening our calls and tell

00:16:24:02 –> 00:16:25:02
Us what’s new at Q u.

00:16:26:05 –> 00:16:48:04
So what’s new at q you so, well, as most people ku u’s lockdown, so everybody’s working from home, but our distribution center is currently still up and operating. So if you do have any of those non-spring bear items that you need to pick up, the website’s still open. And we are still shipping. So

00:16:48:11 –> 00:16:54:12
You guys are considered an essential business? I’m, I’m clothing people putting pants on people that don’t wear pants.

00:16:55:08 –> 00:17:01:19
Not us particularly, but I think just distribution centers is a whole, are are considered Okay.

00:17:02:15 –> 00:17:03:04
Essential

00:17:03:12 –> 00:17:16:25
Under that category. They’re, they’re considered essential. So I’m assuming that that’s how we fall in it. But the, the showroom is closed. The corporate headquarters where everybody works is closed and like I already do for ku, everybody else is working from home.

00:17:17:17 –> 00:17:18:26
Wow. Gotcha. Dang.

00:17:19:10 –> 00:17:19:17
So,

00:17:20:03 –> 00:17:33:07
Well, we may check back with you in the coming weeks or months. Hopefully your personal hunt’s able to come off still. It’s not totally abandoned as well as some of the hunters you got coming in as well. It’s just kind of crazy times. Yeah, I’m you’re dealing with

00:17:33:07 –> 00:17:54:18
Yeah, I’m, so, yeah, I’m, I’m hopeful I’m not, not walking around frustrated and upset, you know, any more than anybody else for what’s going on. Optimistic. You know, it’s still this thing’s change hour by hour and day by day and you know, my hunt’s still a month away, so I’ve got no complaints. I’ve got a job and, and my family’s healthy. So we’re, than anything else that’s the most important right now. So

00:17:54:29 –> 00:18:05:17
How about, do you think that the size in animals by not being hunted this spring, do you think there’s a possibility of killing just a level next level type bear down the road because of it, or,

00:18:07:04 –> 00:18:30:25
I don’t know. I mean, for, for the state, you, you guys know how the, the peninsula and its reputation. It, they, we kill the biggest bears in the world on the peninsula, and it’s due to, you know, really good management restrictions, you know, with the every other year Sure. Between odd numbers and even years, you know, and, and this gives, you know, big bears a a chance to, to grow one more year. But I don’t know if it’s like, you know,

00:18:30:29 –> 00:18:32:19
Yeah, you’re talking an older

00:18:33:11 –> 00:18:34:24
21 year old, what’s the

00:18:34:24 –> 00:18:37:26
Difference? What’s the difference? 26 versus 27, you know,

00:18:38:02 –> 00:18:45:16
There, there, you know, there may be a few more bigger bear options available out there on the hunt if it doesn’t go, but,

00:18:45:19 –> 00:19:05:04
Yeah. Yeah. Well, here’s a hypothetical and, and I know that I’ve heard a few things tossed around, let’s say it’s completely done with, well let’s, let’s just assume it is. Do you think that they’re going, going to entertain making the spring hunt up next year, which means some of those would be hunt both spring and fall of 21, or no?

00:19:05:07 –> 00:19:49:10
Yeah, so I don’t know. There’s, there’s obviously been a lot of rumors going around. I know that the, the board of game ha has met along with some of the other associations that represent the residents and the, the guiding industry. And they’re trying to come up with a resolution, especially for the draw tag scenarios for like all the guys on Kodiak that drew those tags and, and are not allowed to hunt. So they’re, they’re definitely trying to come up with something, what the, the right answer’s gonna be. Yeah. And how they’re gonna do it. I don’t know. I don’t know if in the end it’s just gonna all gonna be a, a wash and they’re gonna refund tags and tag fees or if they’re gonna try and make it up to those people. So you, it’s kind of a hard one with management strategy on, on how they move forward with that and, and make it fair.

00:19:49:23 –> 00:20:01:20
Some of these not, not that these, yeah, some of these game departments are running a little lean on funds anyway, you know, you could see where it could really potentially, they like those license sales and tax sales, you

00:20:01:20 –> 00:20:22:20
Know? Oh, for sure. And, and it, you know, there’s a ridiculous amount of money that the non-resident draw tags bring into Kodiak, into that economy. So, yeah. You know, there’s gonna be a lot of people that feel it, not just the guides and outfitters, but you know, the restaurant industry, the transporters, those hotels, you know, everybody that sees those, those 200 non-residents that that show up for that brown bear hunt

00:20:22:28 –> 00:20:25:06
At 250 bucks a night, you know?

00:20:25:18 –> 00:20:37:06
Yeah. Yeah. Just, you know, you know, the Walmart there, the hotel, the, the local sporting goods stores, just a lot of money that’s poured into the economy outside of the actual guider outfitter that’s hosting that hunt. The

00:20:37:06 –> 00:20:40:12
Sales of hip waders alone, you know what I mean? Who knows

00:20:40:19 –> 00:20:41:22
The sales of hip waiters,

00:20:42:07 –> 00:20:42:22
But sales

00:20:42:23 –> 00:20:58:29
Yeah. Hopefully they can make it up, do something that’s fair for those people that drew those, you know, once in a lifetime type of tags. So hopefully something can be made up, but I, I don’t know personally what the right answer is or even have a, a, a, a good educated opinion on it.

00:20:58:29 –> 00:21:05:23
Yeah. Just interesting. Yeah. It’s gonna be, it’s gonna be interesting to see what happens. I’ve even thought about if they do do that, what,

00:21:06:09 –> 00:21:06:18
What,

00:21:07:03 –> 00:21:12:23
I’m just talking out loud. It’s coming to my mind as I’m saying it. So don’t, don’t get mad at me. Carter, I haven’t said it yet. What? I’m you I

00:21:13:02 –> 00:21:13:17
Let him talk.

00:21:13:28 –> 00:21:15:01
No, yeah, I’m just saying if

00:21:15:10 –> 00:21:19:11
I could see the writing on his face, he’s gonna come up with, so, all right, go ahead. What are you gonna do?

00:21:19:25 –> 00:21:21:04
I there’s possibly

00:21:21:29 –> 00:21:22:20
Gans in your future?

00:21:23:08 –> 00:21:23:14
No,

00:21:23:19 –> 00:21:25:23
Grayling the Slam.

00:21:26:29 –> 00:21:32:10
No, I’m, I’m not part of the upland slam world. No, I’m just saying if there is some, if it’s pushed to next year

00:21:32:19 –> 00:21:35:25
You’re in, you’re all in. I might come on. That’s right.

00:21:36:02 –> 00:21:38:19
You’ve tried it a a time or two? Two,

00:21:38:23 –> 00:21:40:08
Let’s call it a time and a half. Okay.

00:21:40:27 –> 00:21:45:20
But yeah, it might be an opportunity to jump on something. It might be a cancellation. So

00:21:45:20 –> 00:21:48:26
Let’s move. Let’s, let’s hold him to it. I’m, you’ve heard it. I’m, I’ve

00:21:48:26 –> 00:21:51:26
Heard, I’m saying I need to pencil him in on the, the spare bedroom.

00:21:52:20 –> 00:21:55:08
Yeah, for sure. Bronson’s gonna be there. No, I

00:21:55:17 –> 00:21:55:20
I,

00:21:55:24 –> 00:21:57:14
I’ll be, I’ll be curbside. I’ll

00:21:57:14 –> 00:22:01:29
Entertain something. I’m, I’m entertaining things. I’m just mo I mu stuff over and this

00:22:02:19 –> 00:22:09:00
Ones I’m gonna bowl over. I we can, we can do research on barber or antelope or anything, and pretty soon we’re the experts and we’re going no matter

00:22:09:00 –> 00:22:10:13
What. That’s right. You can’t stop.

00:22:10:29 –> 00:22:11:06
Absolutely.

00:22:12:02 –> 00:22:12:22
Absolutely. Have you got,

00:22:12:22 –> 00:22:18:08
Yeah, Wyatt’s been blowing, been blowing my phone up for the last couple weeks, looking for a, a deal on a bear cancellation, but

00:22:18:15 –> 00:22:31:12
Well, we’ve been wondering what he’s doing over there. Like we, you know, every once in a while I turn around and I look at him, I’m like, wonder what bro Wyatt’s doing in there? So we gotta keep our, we gotta keep our thumb on him, you know, probably like burns burnsy, keeping his thumb on you. You know what I mean?

00:22:31:29 –> 00:22:33:23
Wt needs adult supervision at all times.

00:22:34:20 –> 00:22:37:05
That’s right. There’s no doubt. So I No

00:22:37:06 –> 00:22:42:14
Question. He’s a good kid. He is a hard worker. But you, you leave him unsupervised and there’s no telling what that kid’s gonna do.

00:22:42:26 –> 00:22:47:11
I know. We’ve learned that. Well, we know we’re getting good work out of him now that we know how to manage him.

00:22:47:18 –> 00:23:07:14
Well, we, yes, we all know, and this is for another podcast, but we all know, speaking of bear hunts, we know what kids like to make noise, like, to make, you know, weird noises blow things being obnoxious. And he likes to blow predator calls up there with no backup or guns of any kind. I’ve been told. So I’ve

00:23:07:14 –> 00:23:08:02
Been told that too.

00:23:08:02 –> 00:23:17:08
That’s what we do. We’re gun slingers, man. There’s no fear just bail out of the truck with a bow and a range find or a predator call. And we’re, we’re grizzly bear hunting. Yeah.

00:23:17:15 –> 00:23:22:01
So you guys, all right, so let’s just dive into, into that. Bronson brings up a great story. Let, let’s

00:23:22:01 –> 00:23:24:02
Just do it now because he, and he’s not here to defend

00:23:24:02 –> 00:23:31:18
Himself. He’s not, but when we heard it, okay, I’m just, it’s hard for me to picture Wyatt. So het take a lot of risk in his life.

00:23:31:29 –> 00:23:43:05
No, very methodical. It goes very methodical, you know, routine and regimen. And if you disrupt that, you see that deer in the headlight look in his eyes when it comes to work. Like, I don’t know, there was,

00:23:43:15 –> 00:23:44:28
You know, yeah, that’s right. There

00:23:44:28 –> 00:23:48:11
Was, was road construction between here and the office and he didn’t know how to get to the office.

00:23:48:19 –> 00:23:58:23
So you guys are, you guys are going along, here’s a bear. I’m thinking why It’s the last person in the world I would think, that doesn’t think about a, something that has gunpowder in it. You know what I mean?

00:23:58:29 –> 00:24:04:13
He should have a gun. Was he up there hunting caribou or were you hunting Spring Bear? I don’t remember him when it was, tell us the story.

00:24:04:13 –> 00:24:11:22
Yeah, no. So we were, we were, we had just finished up the, the fall caribou season and we had the airboat loaded on the truck and we were, which

00:24:11:23 –> 00:24:12:24
Which blew up right?

00:24:13:19 –> 00:24:59:19
It it did, it had, we had blown a brand new $12,000 engine on that hunt. And we were lucky to get it back to the boat ramp and get it loaded on the trailer and had camp packed up and we were feeling sorry for ourselves and had a 24 hour drive south Anchorage ahead of us. And probably about four hours into the drive right before we hit the adding its pass within the Dalton Highway archery corridor. Luckily it, it, it had been raining for two weeks and the road was an absolute mess. And we were only doing about 10 miles an hour. And I look over and here’s a, a, a grizzly bear in our grizz, couple hundred yards off the road digging up ground squirrels next to the river. And come on. That was probably about the last time that we thought about anything. And from there it just, oh, it went straight into action

00:24:59:19 –> 00:25:05:23
Mode. Straight into action. Wyatt grabs you predator call, you grab a bow, right? And, and out the door you go.

00:25:06:18 –> 00:25:16:28
Yeah, we had, we had his rifle and my pistol in the, the backseat of the truck there. Okay. And we grabbed the bow in the range finder and the predator call. Okay.

00:25:17:18 –> 00:25:18:12
What could go wrong? We

00:25:18:12 –> 00:25:20:29
Come out the truck. Yeah. What could go wrong with that? So

00:25:20:29 –> 00:25:23:14
You, you leave the truck leaving the firearms in the truck.

00:25:24:07 –> 00:26:03:12
Yeah. Nobody’s had time for that. Alright. Okay. So we left all that stuff behind and, and you’re, we, we bailed off the side of the road and we, we ran a couple hundred yards through the tundra up until we hit the riverbank and, and got to the last piece of cover. And the bear was probably 120, 130 yards away digging out a ground squirrel. And there was nothing between us and him. We were at the last bush. And Wyatt started hollering on that, that predator call. And soon as he heard it, he picked his nose up and came straight to us on a string. And from there Wyatt was running the predator call and the laser range finder and just counting down 1 30, 1 15 96 and about that time.

00:26:05:02 –> 00:26:06:01
Oh, oh my could’ve seen that.

00:26:06:01 –> 00:26:14:23
I would, I’m gonna give, I’m gonna, I’m gonna give Wyatt just a little credit. I would’ve, I I almost would guess he’d heading for the truck. But he stuck with you. He

00:26:14:23 –> 00:26:15:22
Was calling the artist. Oh,

00:26:15:22 –> 00:26:31:00
No, no. He was, he was attached to my hip, so he was That’s awesome. Right on my right hand side and, and running into the predator call with one hand and running the laser rangefinder with the other and Wow. About every five or six steps that bear took. He was, he was giving me a new range. I had an narrow knocked and coming.

00:26:31:00 –> 00:26:32:29
Was he running fast? Was he coming hard?

00:26:33:03 –> 00:26:33:29
Was he charging? No,

00:26:34:01 –> 00:27:29:13
He wasn’t running hard. He was just a, a steady, steady walk, you know, he knew what it was and he, he picked his head up and he came straight at us and it was a steady clip until he hit 35, 36 yards somewhere in there. And that’s when he turned from straight on to broadside, trying to cut our wind. And as soon as he turned broadside, I was already at full draw. And I told why it stopped him. I told why it stopped him. And I think just naturally, which you do when, when you tell a guy to stop him, he, he grunts like a deer. Yeah. So he just lets out a bat rat rat. And soon as he did the bear kind of huffed and, and stopped. And by that time the arrow was already on its way, it zipped cleaned through him and the bear took off about 40 yards and piled up dead. And next thing you know, it was high fives, hugs and us yelling. And, you know, it wasn’t until about that time that I think either one of us even realized that, ah, we’ve, we didn’t have a backup.

00:27:30:29 –> 00:27:31:19
Sounded like

00:27:31:19 –> 00:27:35:13
Wounded. I was thinking about grabbing an arrow out of his quiver and just holding it.

00:27:36:09 –> 00:27:40:22
Yeah. My, my backup is that I, I knew that I was faster than Wyatt.

00:27:40:22 –> 00:27:41:16
So that’s all you gotta,

00:27:41:21 –> 00:27:46:06
That’s all you need. That’s all you. And there’s no question you’d be faster than Wyatt. There’s no question. Yeah,

00:27:46:09 –> 00:27:52:02
No doubt. No, he, he, he’s tall and, and, and skinny, but yeah, he he’s got no speed. Oh,

00:27:52:25 –> 00:27:54:07
Okay. There you ha Wyatt Just being

00:27:54:07 –> 00:27:57:12
Honest, he just being honest. Just being honest. That’s right. So, oh

00:27:57:19 –> 00:28:14:02
No, honestly, I mean, like I said, everything happened so fast. We just kind of went into to hunt, kill mode and bailed out of the truck and got to the last piece of cover and we just super singularly focused and not even thinking about the, the what ifs it was just kill the bear.

00:28:14:20 –> 00:28:18:18
Wow. You could have been in the news just as easy as with a grip and grin. Yeah,

00:28:18:27 –> 00:28:39:04
Well, we could have. Yeah, we could have. So, but no, no. Well, no, I, I, I’ve hunted all over the world. I’ve killed a bunch of bears, hardcore bow hunter, and that’s one of the top five stocks, you know, that I’ve ever been on. Just how the whole thing unfolded, who was there with me and you know, it it why it was just as stoked for me as if he had killed the bear himself. Oh

00:28:39:04 –> 00:28:51:11
Yeah. That’s cool. Well, for non-residents like us, we go up there and, you know, we can’t just go hunt bears, we gotta either pay to go hunt or be with somebody like that. So that was a freebie. Yep. That was cool. Yeah, yeah. No, it was awesome story. It

00:28:51:11 –> 00:28:54:00
Was, it was awesome. Yeah. Good, good memories made. And

00:28:54:15 –> 00:29:03:04
Is there times, while we got you on, is there any kind of, you know, q you product you wanna highlight or, or talk about that’s been on your mind or anything new coming out?

00:29:04:10 –> 00:29:29:18
No, so we got the, some stuff hopefully that’s gonna come out this spring. Nothing that I can talk about, but you know, we’re always, you know, inventing new stuff and, and, and building on what we’ve already got, you know, new materials, new designs, and that stuff’s constantly being regenerated and, and as those things come out, we’ll be introducing ’em. So, but yeah, nothing that I can talk about on air right now.

00:29:29:25 –> 00:29:31:10
We’ll get you back on then. Wheels.

00:29:31:19 –> 00:29:39:20
Yeah, the wheels are constantly turning, so we don’t, we don’t sit on our, on rest, on our morals, on what we’ve done in the past. So we’re constantly trying to reinvent.

00:29:39:28 –> 00:29:42:27
Awesome. All right buddy. Well, well

00:29:42:27 –> 00:29:44:04
Appreciate your, appreciate

00:29:44:04 –> 00:29:44:14
Your answers

00:29:44:26 –> 00:29:46:20
Unannounced and Yeah, absolutely.

00:29:46:28 –> 00:29:49:05
I appreci you guys calling me unannounced and Yeah,

00:29:49:08 –> 00:29:55:04
Well it’s all work. I mean, you’re just filling calls, you’re working from home. I mean, we’re not interrupting your daily life.

00:29:55:08 –> 00:30:00:11
No, I do think it’s nine, it’s nine 30 your time. You probably should put a pair of pants on. That’s right.

00:30:00:15 –> 00:30:02:29
So get dressed. Hey

00:30:02:29 –> 00:30:05:24
Look, I’m, I’m in my home office so That’s

00:30:05:24 –> 00:30:08:20
Right. I can do what I want. Leave me alone. Exactly.

00:30:09:22 –> 00:30:13:12
Full of Cheerios and sit down at the laptop, right? That’s right,

00:30:13:12 –> 00:30:13:27
That’s right.

00:30:14:15 –> 00:30:18:24
I’m just glad I had Jason in my phone and saw it and answered it, so. That’s

00:30:18:24 –> 00:30:20:17
Right. We are too. Thanks for taking the call.

00:30:20:17 –> 00:30:22:17
I just assumed he was calling and asking for money again, but

00:30:22:27 –> 00:30:23:14
Oh, come

00:30:23:14 –> 00:30:24:04
On, come

00:30:24:05 –> 00:30:27:22
On, come on. Although keep your phone close. All right.

00:30:28:11 –> 00:30:33:08
Hey, thanks Justin. We appreciate it. Yeah, thanks for your time. Thanks. Be safe and we’ll check in soon guys.

00:30:33:17 –> 00:30:36:08
Yeah, call anytime. Thanks guys. Thanks buddy. Bye.

00:30:37:08 –> 00:30:58:04
In case we didn’t introduce him, that was Justin Schafer, the guiding outfitter coordinator for Q u, good friend of ours and Alaska resident and that’s why we called him, picked on him. He is obviously on top of kind of what’s going on up there and just wanted to add a little bit. Did that, I forgot about that bear story till it came up. That’s

00:30:58:04 –> 00:30:58:15
Pretty funny.

00:30:58:18 –> 00:30:59:00
That’s

00:30:59:00 –> 00:30:59:23
Funny. That was perfect

00:31:00:02 –> 00:31:24:00
Wyatt. But when Wyatt told us that story, he had a little more fear. It seemed, Schaeffer seemed like it was all in control, just slow walk, walked up and drilled the thing. W Wyatt had a little bit more Oh yeah, trepidation when he told us that story. Like I think he knew, I think he knew he was slower than Schafer and I think that’s why there’s no problem it affected him. S Schaffer’s. I just shot the bear. Yeah, I It was no,

00:31:24:00 –> 00:32:11:28
A big deal. A big deal. Yeah. It was not a big deal. Yeah. Kind of kind of a crazy story why it had been texting us and said he blew up the airboat and this and that and of course not him, but the, the airboat, which I don’t know we should get wire on to tell the whole story because I don’t know what they were using the air airboat for access in some of that country, but they were way north and so anyway, I, I don’t know, we ought to ask. There’s a few questions. There’s a few things maybe none of us will ever truly know the truth of. Alright, what else? What else are we talking about Bronson? Let’s move on. So basically Alaska limiting people going to their state. Never thought it would come to this. If you ever told me that a virus would stop the world in its tracks economically, hunting wise and everything else, I’d have called you a liar. Feels

00:32:11:28 –> 00:32:12:14
Like it’s doing

00:32:12:14 –> 00:32:13:26
It and it’s happening. Yeah.

00:32:14:08 –> 00:32:37:11
Literally in places. So yeah, gonna be a lot of unknown still in Alaska right now that will be worked out in the coming weeks and months, but could displace a lot of grizzly and brown bear hunters and I don’t know where they’re gonna go. Especially some of these guys that drew tags. I don’t know how you do that. Can you imagine if it was like in the fall and you’d drawn the be the toque or one of the best 14 C sheep tags and maybe that

00:32:37:11 –> 00:32:40:28
Happen and drew random, it could still happen. Okay. I don’t think so. Yes, that’s what I mean. I

00:32:40:28 –> 00:32:46:00
Don’t think so. And all of a sudden, yeah, sorry, just here’s your money back and you beat the odds, but you’re not coming hunting.

00:32:46:17 –> 00:33:07:17
There’s people that are out there surmising and guessing what’s gonna happen this fall doing glooming and saying, yeah, there’s a 10 to 15% chance this is gonna be all for nothing. And that this thing’s changed so much. We, two weeks ago we didn’t even know where we’d be today. And things have changed a ton. We’re not out there gonna speculate, we’re applying as if we’re going and we figure we’re gonna go.

00:33:07:17 –> 00:33:15:23
What else can you do? That’s another, you gotta be optimistic to, to the extent possible. Take it serious. But plan is if the fall is gonna be there for the taking

00:33:15:28 –> 00:33:18:01
And they’re gonna, if for some freak reason

00:33:19:01 –> 00:33:19:16
Sort all,

00:33:19:24 –> 00:33:22:00
I’ll call it a 3% chance that it won’t,

00:33:22:14 –> 00:33:23:10
I’ll say two and a half.

00:33:23:17 –> 00:33:53:07
Okay, then they’re gonna make it right. They can’t sell you a hunting opportunity and not allow you to have that opportunity without making it right. So don’t sweat it. We, it’ll all come around. Everything will be fine. You can’t apply in Idaho. So similar Idaho’s not letting us hunt, spring bear or wolves or come up there and enjoy fishing or anything else. It’s non-resident. And so they did stop us from doing some of those things. However, we can purchase a hunting license for the purpose of applying. I just did it this morning.

00:33:54:14 –> 00:33:55:10
What else? Where are

00:33:55:10 –> 00:33:55:17
We at?

00:33:55:24 –> 00:33:56:06
I don’t know.

00:33:57:10 –> 00:33:57:20
Let’s,

00:33:58:18 –> 00:34:03:07
We’ve had been getting a few calls about, I think I knew where you’re heading, but

00:34:03:23 –> 00:34:04:00
Go

00:34:04:00 –> 00:34:06:02
Ahead. We’re gonna save that big announcement for a little

00:34:06:02 –> 00:34:08:14
Bit. Okay, go ahead. Bring up something. We’ve

00:34:08:14 –> 00:34:32:12
Had a, we’ve had a few calls actually a few dozen on one from people with some of these tags throughout the western states, Utah, Nevada, some of these other states that are, have tags that haven’t been sold. Okay. Conservation type tags, bid tags, bid tags, things like that. A lot of the banquets that those are being sold at have been canceled or postponed.

00:34:32:17 –> 00:34:37:04
We’re not talking just governor tags, we’re talking even elk and deer commissioner Conservation. Yeah, cougar

00:34:37:06 –> 00:34:39:20
Bear tags. I mean it’s all, you know, but in

00:34:39:20 –> 00:34:40:18
Many states they’re

00:34:40:18 –> 00:34:48:13
All species. Sheep, moose, goat, deer, elk, antelope, cougar, bear, bison, bison. Yeah, probably say buffaloes,

00:34:49:11 –> 00:35:33:11
You know, they’re, a lot of these are starting to put them on on websites like online hunting auctions.com or have just pushed banquet dates out till the end of May or June if you’re interested in something. We realize this virus deal has affected a lot of people and maybe the ability to buy tags that that was there, you know, because of the greatness of the economy was pulling along s smoothly and now it’s not. But for those of you that maybe have the interest in some of those check out, check out, either give us a call, we can help find something for you. All the regular banquets have been rescheduled and there’s a lot of tags still out there. Jason, you probably could hunt an antelope in a fourth state if you really wanted one. Come

00:35:33:13 –> 00:35:35:01
On. All right.

00:35:35:01 –> 00:35:39:20
Where Utah ba, Utah Tech. No thanks. There’s one that ends tomorrow night. Fact,

00:35:40:01 –> 00:35:42:28
Come on. You’ve been watching it. No, it’s on that, that’s my point. You’ve been

00:35:43:01 –> 00:35:43:29
Watching it? No, it’s in conjunction.

00:35:43:29 –> 00:35:46:16
You’ve got it on your start. You’ve probably got it on a bookmark.

00:35:46:21 –> 00:35:55:23
It’s, it’s in conjunction with a lot of others. I think it’s like a box elder antelope tag. It’s sent, it’s on one of the other foundation auctions. It’s, it’s in a mix between some other good stuff.

00:35:56:06 –> 00:37:03:06
Somebody wants a steal of a deal, go do it. I ain’t gonna bid against you. There are some steals gonna come out, there’s no question. There’s gonna be things that are, you know, in these auctions you get guys that drink a little bit or they get a little excited or whatever and they get wound up and and whatnot. You don’t wanna be bid. I mean we’re guys, right? We don’t want to be outbid even in an auction or hunting situations or the biggest, baddest truck or whatever the case is. We’re slightly competitive. I’m just saying you don’t have that. It eliminates that when c ovid 19 has fixed that and there are going to be some deals. So anyway, online hunting auctions dot com’s a good place to go. The seems like a lot of these, like Bronson was saying, a lot of these whatever s are conservation groups in different organizations are pushing their tags to this. So anyway, there are sometimes a, a bidders, what do they call it? Bidders surplus or a bidder’s fee for, you know, top buyer or like that premium, things like that. So you might click on that. It’s easy to see what the buyer’s premium is. So, but in the cases that there are some

00:37:03:11 –> 00:37:11:25
Making do with how they can gotta get rid of ’em at some point they are, you know, entrusted with selling them and getting rid of the tags and anyway, so

00:37:12:02 –> 00:37:44:05
I had a text come through right here. Oh really? Our buddy Sean Lim heard they shut down Idaho non-residents. Is that true? We’re getting that nonstop today. We’re gonna continue to answer those questions. It’s not true. They did shut it down for the, for the moment up there in the spring. But you can apply, buy a hunt license for the purpose of applications. Fall hunting applications. Alright, Bronson, you brought it up. Where are we at? We’ve, we’ve got a, we’ve made somebody’s dreams come true by telling them that. Have we tags will be sold that’s online hunting auctions.com or others?

00:37:44:05 –> 00:37:58:29
There are, there are potentially. I know some of the other groups within Utah, elk Foundation and Turkey and others have pushed them out to the end of May, June, July, August even they’ve rescheduled. I’ve seen some on their websites. So, you know, people

00:37:58:29 –> 00:38:00:20
Don’t like to wait until August to make any

00:38:00:20 –> 00:38:03:17
Plans. No, they don’t go for a tag that’s in August 1st.

00:38:04:01 –> 00:38:14:12
We like to print, plan and prepare, especially for trophy hunting opportunities. This is one of those things that guys like to tell their wives about, like to tell their work about. They do like to yeah, like to

00:38:14:12 –> 00:38:15:24
Yes, like to tell their wives about Yeah,

00:38:15:28 –> 00:38:24:25
No, they don’t like it, but they need to. Yeah. And, and you know, you if spur of the moment, expensive, spur of the moment, things generally don’t happen,

00:38:24:25 –> 00:38:29:26
Especially with anxiety in the air. We’ll just, that’s

00:38:29:26 –> 00:38:30:26
The best covid, anxiety,

00:38:31:08 –> 00:38:32:00
Whatever, right? Yeah.

00:38:32:00 –> 00:38:32:23
Or the covid

00:38:32:23 –> 00:38:42:18
Warrior or economic anxiety or whatever, you know, that’s going on right now. Let’s talk about something that’s exciting. Do you have anything else before we talk about? No. What,

00:38:42:18 –> 00:38:48:25
What, well, I did have a good couple good friend of ours come down with Corona down the street from us. Kind of crazy.

00:38:49:03 –> 00:38:50:10
They’re doing all right. Yeah.

00:38:50:26 –> 00:38:51:16
Recovering.

00:38:51:16 –> 00:38:52:00
They’re doing fine.

00:38:52:00 –> 00:38:52:23
Yeah, they’re recovering

00:38:52:23 –> 00:38:57:01
Fine. They didn’t have to go to the hospital. They, they were sick, but neither of ’em are hospitalized, right? No, no.

00:38:57:05 –> 00:38:57:13
Good.

00:38:57:25 –> 00:38:58:04
Well

00:38:58:07 –> 00:39:01:19
Good they’re getting but we avoided them a little bit. Yeah, it’s no fun.

00:39:02:23 –> 00:39:03:00
No,

00:39:03:11 –> 00:39:27:07
But having said that, I also had a buddy of mine, his kid was down there in Argentina and he had to sneak out. They had to sneak out, sneak the police, came checked on him, asked him when they were planning on leaving so they could keep tabs on him. They said the day after longer than when they were leaving, five minutes later the taxi shows up, they jump in, they run to a bus,

00:39:27:29 –> 00:39:28:25
Bus, charter plane.

00:39:28:25 –> 00:39:45:06
The bus ends up, yeah, they did. The bus ends up dropping them off at the border. They walk across the border, jump in another bus run to an airport that had been shut down the chartered plane flies into the shutdown down airport and fly ’em home. How about that? Crazy, huh?

00:39:46:00 –> 00:39:47:16
There’s a lot of I’d

00:39:47:16 –> 00:39:48:25
You like to be south of the border trying to

00:39:48:25 –> 00:39:55:16
Get home. Gonna say a lot that there’s a lot of moving parts to what you just said. Lot of moving parts and a lot of parts that could go wrong.

00:39:55:28 –> 00:39:57:16
Oh, I know. So anyway,

00:39:59:14 –> 00:40:00:17
Stacked like cordwood crazy

00:40:00:17 –> 00:40:06:24
Times, right? I don’t stack somewhere. Remember? Remember? Huh? Yes. Remember that podcast from the old boy in Montana? Oh,

00:40:06:25 –> 00:40:11:29
Ron Jenkins. He said they were laying in a prison cell in Sonora for 30 days. Like Cordwood. Yeah,

00:40:11:29 –> 00:40:26:02
They were stacked like cordwood 30 days or so. How about that? Big old vat of rice. Alright, so anyway, let’s talk about something exciting. Bronson. We’re coming out with a new division of our company here up at God Doors. That’s

00:40:26:10 –> 00:40:26:13
Right.

00:40:26:27 –> 00:40:27:23
Tell ’em. Well,

00:40:28:05 –> 00:40:53:20
For, for a lot of years, I mean ever since we’ve been doing this, right, there’s some natural associations it feels like that we as hunting consultants, obviously acquiring tags, booking outfitters, going on hunts, how to use your points. All those are the most front burner associations. But one of the other associations we get asked repetitively is on optics.

00:40:53:25 –> 00:41:02:11
Boom. Right? You’ve been bridling this thing. We’ve been trying to hold back, not tell the world. We’re selling optics, we are selling optics.

00:41:02:23 –> 00:41:34:20
We are. And it, it’s just an, it’s, it’s a natural for us to do. We, we talk and discuss, you know, either give our opinions on what we personally use or if it’s not something we personally use, we’re, you know, we’re asked still to give our opinion on it based on what we’ve seen our clients bring or what we read about what, ’cause let’s face it, we can’t own every single piece ourselves, but No, but we want bottom line. Yeah. We, we want, bottom line is it’s a very natural association for us. So we’ve, we’re ready, I’ve got product in the office,

00:41:35:05 –> 00:41:44:11
We stop. And what I mean by brons and bridling, it’s when I get the first optic that comes through the door, I wanna tell the world, I want tell the world about the exciting times.

00:41:44:26 –> 00:41:47:01
Reframe we’ve refrained until we have That’s

00:41:47:01 –> 00:41:47:18
Right. Everything,

00:41:47:20 –> 00:41:50:00
Optics of all shapes, sizes, color and cre.

00:41:51:27 –> 00:42:07:29
So shelf. We, we’ve our, our dealerships been approved in Swarovski, zes, Leica and Vortex. So anyway, anything you guys need, give us a holler. Prices aren’t gonna be beat. We’ll be be pretty honest about that. Yeah, we’re yeah, we’re,

00:42:08:08 –> 00:42:32:18
We’re, we’re in this to be able to take care of our, our members to the extent possible that you adhere to us. We appreciate that we’re gonna have member pricing. It’s gonna be, you know, at least 5% cheaper than if you are not a member of Epic Outdoors. That’s just to simply have a me another member benefit of those that are already a supporter here and member of Epic Outdoors and free shipping on everything like that. We’re not gonna be beat on, on pricing. So

00:42:32:23 –> 00:42:40:26
One thing I like about our pricing, Bronson, is we wanted to be just like a no Dicker type policy. Just bottom, bottom line. Great

00:42:41:08 –> 00:42:48:20
Deals, great deals. And don’t, don’t, you know, you’re gonna know that when you get the pricing from us, you’re gonna, it’s gonna be apparent like, alright, yep, let’s do this. These

00:42:48:20 –> 00:42:58:23
Guys came to play. They’re not screwing around. We don’t want to be a used car dealership. Don’t want you to feel like you, if you go through Bronson, he gives you a better deal than me or vice versa, or one of our other guys. Yeah.

00:42:58:23 –> 00:43:07:08
Based on the fact that Carter drank two monsters that day and he’s in a good mood and I’ve had, and I’ve had water and he’s, you know, don’t want you to have to weigh that out and who’s in a better mood.

00:43:07:15 –> 00:43:27:14
Get a print bill off this coronavirus where paper, there’s a paper shortage, you know, and charge a guy a little extra one day. That’s not gonna happen here at Epic Outdoors. So just let you know, we do have member pricing, we have non-member pricing. That’s all. That’s it. That’s all there is. That promise, you promise you members will pay for their membership on their first order. Absolute. It’s just the way it’s gonna

00:43:27:14 –> 00:44:03:23
Go. If you’re looking for something this year, whether it be, you know, riflescope, ano spotting scope, B T X does not matter, we can help you out within those companies and give you a great deal on it. And again, everything’s in in-house here. And if it’s something we do need to order, we actually do that. No problem. Have it shipped right to you if needs to be and excited to announce this and Phil, it’s just gonna be another way we can help serve our members without, with, with largely, but just by doing what we do almost every day. Just adding now an inventory of optics here to be able to meet the needs of the members that call and, and want it. So

00:44:03:25 –> 00:44:31:12
Much like matching guys up with strategies and units and different things we want to sell you. What works for you. We’re not out here trying to push a particular product or different things. If you want tens, ELs, vortex, the new u h d stuff, 18 power vinyls, whatever, we’ve got it here and there. And it may fit your, everybody’s budgets are different. Everybody’s tastes are different. Yeah. You know, some people hunting style, people love Leica, some people love Zeiss s I mean

00:44:31:16 –> 00:44:37:00
Whatever, Swarovski. Exactly. If you’re a, you know, whitetailed deer hunter, you know, eight Power Binos, you know, you know

00:44:37:24 –> 00:44:38:06
P popular,

00:44:38:21 –> 00:45:01:18
You want those. So it doesn’t really matter. We’re here. We can meet the needs of what you’re looking for. Keep us in mind. We’re gonna have a a a page or two or I don’t know, three, four, who knows? Yeah. In this next edition, the May magazine that we come out with. But we’re ready, we’re ready to take your calls on it. As soon as you hear this, give us a call. If you’re looking for something, we’re,

00:45:01:24 –> 00:45:03:07
We’re super excited about this, this

00:45:03:09 –> 00:45:19:07
And slightly holding back so that we have product of all, like you said, of all and and also this don’t wanna seem like we’re insensitive to the needs of the world right now. It’s like if you’re thinking about buying something else important or paying your house payment versus buying a pair of expensive binoculars, we get it.

00:45:19:11 –> 00:45:22:02
You should pay part of your house payment and the rest in optics, huh?

00:45:22:07 –> 00:45:35:18
But you know, we’re, so we’re trying to come out with this. At the same time, we realize that if you’re looking or you’re preparing for this year hunt, it’s gonna be may before, you know what May, June, July Scouting’s heavy. It’s the time. So

00:45:35:20 –> 00:46:06:20
Some of these things we did order a little bit like with like they, you know, with the Covid and whatnot, they did not totally shut their doors, but basically shut down part of their operations. And so anyway, with that we’d made pretty aggressive orders and have a lot of items in stock here at Epic Outdoors. And so, you know, some of the basic stuff that we’re super big fans of, of course everybody needs wazoo tins around your neck as well as, you know, huge fans of the fifteens. We have Zeiss 15 fifteens,

00:46:06:26 –> 00:46:08:12
S 18 vortex with

00:46:08:18 –> 00:46:12:16
H d and, and Vortex and ordered good, good quantities of those and

00:46:12:16 –> 00:46:17:08
Setting scopes. BT XSS rifle scopes. Yeah. Speaking of rifle scopes,

00:46:18:02 –> 00:47:01:04
Speaking of rifle scopes. So with this podcast and the announcement of the epic outdoors optic division, epic optics.com, we are going forward with kind of like a little combo. Yeah. Do intro, intro special intro special with ze. And so we’ve got a couple, several different packages to choose from. But this is basically gonna include a rifle scope, a ring set, you know, a 30 millimeter ring set to go with them. And if you, and, and when you buy those, you get a free pair of $500 bin noses, the 10 by two Zeiss Teos. So this is a Zeiss Sports optics package that we’re blowing out here at Epic Outdoors with this podcast. First come, first serve Bronson, take it away.

00:47:01:10 –> 00:47:25:14
A couple of scopes that you can choose from the V four three to 12 by 56 with the 20 plex redle. Again, like Jason said, these come with the Zes ultra light rings as well. So that scope as well as the V four four to 16 by 44 Z O a two redle, got those in stock ready to make some awesome deals on those.

00:47:26:26 –> 00:47:32:02
Well just say it, what’s what give, give them them the price, the map price. And with that comes a free pair of Biss.

00:47:32:09 –> 00:47:41:28
Yeah. You’re looking at a 1,070 9 98 for the three to 12 by 56 scope with rings and the 10 by 42 Parabios. The

00:47:41:29 –> 00:47:54:14
Binos alone are worth $500. That’s right. So that’s what we’re saying is you’re paying, you’re paying for the, the scope in the rings and getting a free set of $500 bins. Keep in mind these Als enough, I already bought a package. Yeah, okay.

00:47:54:23 –> 00:47:55:13
I got one too.

00:47:55:19 –> 00:47:58:14
Okay. I bought several, several. You got two or three for your kids. Well boy, you

00:47:58:14 –> 00:47:59:17
Had guns, you were building anyway

00:47:59:23 –> 00:48:00:19
And yet yes. For your

00:48:00:19 –> 00:48:01:25
Kids. When I say building, yes, I just put, put

00:48:01:26 –> 00:48:53:06
’em together. Right. I just put ’em together and had the muzzle break put on him. Had a tri, a timney trigger thrown on it. And then I needed to top it out with a scope, put ’em put on this particular scope exact with this promo, threw on the scopes yesterday and Sean’s been out, he’s been shed hunting the ccra CCRA like crazy. And he says, and I says he has pretty, pretty impressive vinyls. Yeah. He had a pair of Zeiss victory, older versions, hds, a little older version. And he’s like that, these ones, these are clearer, they’re unbelievable. And they’re, they’re super lightweight and compact. So anyway, he’s all about it. Ashley’s got a set, Justin’s got a set. I mean, come on. But anyway, what a great combination. If you’re looking for a rifle scope, I personally, I’m kind of that four to 16, it gives you a little bit more power. We’ve got the three to twelves. Bronson thinking maybe there’s a few muzz loader guys out

00:48:53:06 –> 00:49:38:24
There. Yeah. Or if you’re not really, you know, the, of course they, they both come with the m o a tours on ’em. So it’s not like that, you know, that’s standard on ’em, right? It doesn’t matter. But 56 millimeter objective on that three to 12 versus the 44 on the four to 16 power zm. O A two, that, that scope the 14 by 16 by 44 gonna be about 1179. So awesome deal for a scope ring set plus a free parabios. You know, this is a deal that we’re, we took advantage of ordered some of these first come first serve. So if you you’re interested, give us a call. If you’re looking at topping a gun combo out with a zeis riflescope, give us a call. And if it’s not one of these and you wanna make something else work, whether it be that or another brand, keep us in mind as well.

00:49:38:27 –> 00:50:05:19
Kind of nice too. If you go out on their website and, you know, rifle scopes and vinyls and different things, it’s nice. There’s guys that have specific tastes, I like this radical or I like this power or whatever. Find what you like, go out, research it online, find what you like, and then call it in and we’ll quote you price on it. No problem at all. And of course we can, you know, give you our recommendation here and there. Yeah, no pro you think we’re not opinionated. We’re pretty

00:50:05:19 –> 00:51:10:10
Opinionated. We’ll give your opinion, but we realize it’s probably on rifle scopes more than binos and, and spotting scopes and whatnot. Rifle scopes with all the different objective as well as radical combinations that you can get everybody’s eye and feel is different. Some want a simple, you know, 20 plex type vertical. Some want the m o a ticks, you know, some don’t want the vertical posts going up. So it’s just all different. But keep us in mind for anything in your optics lineup for this year. We’re, this is not something we’re gonna dabble in. We’ve, we’ve thought about this for a while. We wouldn’t be starting something like this. It was, Hey, we’re just gonna try this out. You know? No, our, our goal is to be able to meet the needs of our members and our clients that call and take and take care of your needs in the optics world, so to speak. And you know, obviously we’re, we’ve tried a lot with everybody in that. We have in our office. We’ve used a lot of different optics over the years and can give a lot of very, very valuable information if you’re simply wanting to say, Hey, I, I need to get set up, you know, out west, what do I need? We can give you our 2 cents on that.

00:51:10:19 –> 00:51:16:13
That’s right. You know, let’s be honest here. Optics, what percentage of hunting Oh

00:51:16:17 –> 00:51:17:20
Geez. Is behind those

00:51:18:00 –> 00:51:23:07
Divorces. Divorce rate. Oh, within the hunting industry is behind purchases of optics.

00:51:24:04 –> 00:51:25:28
I don’t know. I thought you’re going somewhere else.

00:51:26:03 –> 00:51:26:29
What? Where’d you think I

00:51:26:29 –> 00:51:34:11
Was going? How much of the hunt of the actual hunting time involves optics? And I was gonna, I was like, oh yeah, glasses

00:51:34:14 –> 00:51:39:20
You, a hundred percent of your success is, is a hundred percent of your success is due to optics out

00:51:39:20 –> 00:51:40:06
West. It’s just,

00:51:40:09 –> 00:51:41:06
But now, okay,

00:51:41:22 –> 00:51:43:16
But you took this down a direction I didn’t

00:51:43:16 –> 00:51:49:11
Know. Well, all the marital relationships struggle on the, on expensive optics. And that’s why we’re here. We’re here to help and give you a better pricing. How about that?

00:51:49:24 –> 00:52:16:05
Okay. That’s a good twist on it. Yeah. Good job. We’re also, anyway, and we’ve, we’ve mentioned this as well regarding stealth cam. I think in an early podcast we’ve mentioned that we are also a stealth cam dealer as well. The optics and, and trail cams are things that again, go kind of hand in hand. We get a lot of calls on what kind of trail cams that we use and you know, last year probably

00:52:16:05 –> 00:52:18:19
Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of stealth.

00:52:18:21 –> 00:52:25:20
That’s right, Jason. We actually got five or six models. Put ’em in your backyard, you volunteered your backyard. Yeah. Versus

00:52:25:21 –> 00:52:27:04
Any VARs. I went and tested ’em

00:52:27:14 –> 00:52:53:18
And settled on some and we’ve, we’ve made orders on what we feel are some of the more universally used cameras for like western big game hunting, which the 45 NG max is really hard to beat. We’ve got lock boxes for ’em. We’ve got ’em in stock. If you’re having a hard time finding them, getting ’em, whatever, we’ve got ’em. And if you want to order other models that you like better or for your specific need, keep that in mind as well. Where do you think

00:52:53:18 –> 00:53:01:11
All these parts for a most trail cam manufacturers come from? Where,

00:53:02:29 –> 00:53:04:00
Where did Coronavirus

00:53:04:00 –> 00:53:11:08
Chinese virus came from? China. Right. And so that’s why we ordered a bunch of ’em is like, hey, what if we can’t get ’em? I’m not saying can, if

00:53:11:08 –> 00:53:13:01
There’s a disruption, maybe there’s not gonna be

00:53:13:05 –> 00:53:15:14
Nice to have a bunch in stock, right? We’ve got hundreds

00:53:16:03 –> 00:53:16:21
And hundreds.

00:53:17:03 –> 00:53:17:29
So anyway.

00:53:18:01 –> 00:53:19:23
Taken up a lot of rooms. All all I know

00:53:20:09 –> 00:53:22:07
They are, but, but, but it’s

00:53:22:07 –> 00:53:22:24
Also what said

00:53:22:27 –> 00:53:25:18
Time? It’s like money in the bank. They’re, it just like money in the bank. Well, well,

00:53:25:18 –> 00:53:29:13
And it’s when you can’t have something you want it, just look at the toilet paper thing. Come on. Okay.

00:53:29:15 –> 00:53:37:18
All right. And so anyway, I would say this is more important than toilet paper. Big old 250 inch deer. Come on. Yeah, absolutely. So having said that, they

00:53:37:18 –> 00:53:38:05
Didn’t have toilet paper.

00:53:38:06 –> 00:53:39:17
I mean, you could wash your hand. They

00:53:39:17 –> 00:53:42:14
Didn’t have toilet paper 3, 4, 500 years ago. I mean, what

00:53:42:28 –> 00:53:43:25
I know they didn’t have.

00:53:43:26 –> 00:53:45:07
I know you could get by. Yep.

00:53:45:15 –> 00:54:00:23
So, so we’re, we’re excited about the optics. Less than perfect timing. We get it, you know, everybody’s dealing with coronavirus and whatnot and, and different things. But also we were down this path before that ever came up and we weren’t turning back. This is the time

00:54:00:25 –> 00:54:03:23
The orders were all placed is, you know, months.

00:54:04:01 –> 00:54:30:00
And we, and we’re not complaining about it. We do it again. We’re super excited about it. Anyway, if you need something, let us know. If it’s something we don’t have, we can get it. No problems. We’re not out there to have tons of walk-in customers. We’re not out here to, you know, to compete with Sportsman’s Warehouse or anybody else that’s here in town. We’re out here to service our customers there at, here at Epic Outdoors. We’re not, we don’t need the revenue to keep the lights on. We we’re doing, it’s an

00:54:30:00 –> 00:54:49:08
Added, it’s just an added service. That’s all. It’s, that’s the simplest way to put, but, but you’re not gonna find a better deal. I we’re gonna say that right now. Be honest about that. Yeah. That, that’s what we’re in business to do. Give the guys a great deal. Service our members. So take it serious then we say you’re gonna want to give us a call and price an optic if you’re looking at buying something.

00:54:49:08 –> 00:54:53:22
That’s right. So anyway, give us a holler. 4 3 5 2 6 3 0 7 7 7. Just

00:54:53:22 –> 00:55:15:00
Give a couple shout outs real quick to a couple of our sponsors. One of ’em is m o a rifles. They have a lot of great products from the Carbon Alpine, the Carbon Sporter Evolution, carbon Summit, l r h and the m O a Ascent, which I actually have one of those and a six five P R c. And they can, they can

00:55:15:20 –> 00:55:17:06
Sheila’s, you name it. Sheila’s

00:55:17:06 –> 00:55:41:24
I did. She barks, she bites pretty hard. Couple. One shot kills, no mess with her, with some sheep this year. Don’t mess with her. Great, great guns, great products. Bob Beck and the guys there. 5 4 1 5 2 6 1 8 2 0 or m o a rifles.com. Let ’em know what you’re, what you’re trying to design, what you’ve got in mind as far as a, a western long range hunting rifle. Do

00:55:41:24 –> 00:55:56:29
Wanna throw a little shot? Shout out for Bob. He did have a cancellation on a couple of guns. One’s a left-hander. That’s an awesome 28 nozzle. Another one is just one like Bronson shot shooting a six five with a 20 inch barrel. I think it’s five pounds, 14 ounces. Don’t quote me. Yeah,

00:55:56:29 –> 00:55:58:12
Barely. It’s barely under six. It’s,

00:55:58:17 –> 00:56:23:14
But anyway, I know he will make you a screaming deal at 5 4 1 5 2 6 18 20. Ask for Bob Beck. Tell him you heard it here on Epic Outdoors Podcast. Well anyway, no, we did talk about Zeiss a little bit. I wanna circle back to that. We also, man, we’re dealing with S Swarovski, like a Zeiss and Vortex. Vortex has a new rifle scope out. We’re super excited about that as well. Well talk

00:56:23:14 –> 00:56:27:07
About that on the podcast just a week or so ago with Paul Kendall.

00:56:27:15 –> 00:56:28:17
We’re dealing with those now

00:56:28:19 –> 00:56:30:19
And got those in stock as well.

00:56:30:29 –> 00:56:35:20
The reason we brought up Zeiss was just because of this W combo steal from a deal out there.

00:56:35:26 –> 00:56:44:02
We gave some vortex optics last week away. All that was not announced that we were an optics dealer yet. So we’ll spread the love.

00:56:44:02 –> 00:56:50:11
And when we called Paul, we knew we were dealing in ’em, but again, we were trying to bridle ourselves ’cause we wanted to have product in hand.

00:56:50:11 –> 00:56:56:16
Didn’t want you to make a call without stuff on the shelf. And it’s on the shelf and it’s stacking up deep. So ready to get rid of it. Give us a call. Alright, sounds

00:56:56:16 –> 00:57:03:23
Good. Here we go. Epic optics.com. 4 3 5 2 6 3 0. Alright, talk to you later. Bye.
